The Kitchen’s Open: Sweetened Condensed Milk (Hour 2)

Even Beth Habhackers here. Good morning. We have the whole team together. We're here to

have some fun. We got entertainment news coming up for you in a little bit. We get

some good stories that the day touch on our schedule as well. Looking forward to all of

that. But it is a Monday in the nine o'clock hour. I believe everybody knows what that

means. Welcome to the kitchen's open on WFH for this Monday, January 20th. Today's

episode was inspired by YouTube. So inspiration comes from many place. With Beth, that's

pretty much a given. Hey, why be normal? It's no fun. Anyway, one of the responsibilities

I have at the church is to make sure that our YouTube services are looking good and sounding

good. So when I go on to YouTube, the homepage, it sometimes brings up videos that it think

you might find interesting and for whatever reason YouTube thinks I might find videos about

baking and cooking of interest. Shocker. Weird. I know. You're good at thought, right?

So last week, when I hopped on to the YouTube to do my check of the service, there was a

video of someone pouring sweetened condensed milk into a bowl for this amazing dessert. I

didn't get a chance to watch the entire video because I was actually doing my job, but

I did inspire me to start looking into this sweet ingredient and how it can be used in

baking. Uh-huh. Fun fact. Did you know that there's no such thing as unsweetened condensed

milk that you didn't know that? I didn't know that. I didn't know that. Oh, there you

go. Now, you know, I just gave that. That's right. I did a little research and here's

what I found. I found it a fascinating article by Carol Hardberger on LancasterFarming.com.

By the way, that takes me back to my first congregation because that's Lancaster County,

Pennsylvania. Oh, very cool. Where I used to live. The article was entitled The History

of Sweetened Condensed Milk. In it, she shares, Gail Borden is credited with the invention

of canned condensed milk in 1856. Refrigeration was nearly non-existent during this era. While

taking several boat trips, Borden observed children becoming sick, some dying from drinking

contaminated fresh milk. These observations prompted his efforts to find a way to preserve

milk for safe consumption, especially for infants and children. Borden's invention led

to drastic reductions in infant mortality in the US. Well, the first attempts by Borden

utilized a vacuum evaporator, an idea borrowed from the Shaker community, which is a religious

group in the Lancaster County area, and resulted in two failed factories. He eventually opened

the New York Condensed Milk Company and later manufactured and marketed the successful

Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk. You can still find it on yourself. Yes, you can,

yeah. It just so happens that Eagle Brand's success was a large part due to orders from

the US government of civil war troops. Sweetened Condensed Milk fit the bill for the

soldier's primary needs. A lot of calories, safe to consume, portability, and easy to eat.

These same soldiers made the can of Eagle Brand a popular commodity after the war, and it

soon became a household name. Some historians like to say that sweetened condensed milk helped

the Union win the war. So observing the success of Eagle Brand with the soldiers, Charles

Page, a journalist during the civil war, was inspired to invent his own brand of condensed

milk. He became a US trade representative in Switzerland after the war and was fascinated

with the dairy herds where he lived. He and his brother George would become the forefathers

of the Nestle Company, building Europe's first sweetened condensed milk factory in 1866. Nestle

markets its product today under the name Carnation. Wow. Wow. So that was formed in Switzerland

by Americans. Yes. And that's not known as that's crazy. It's amazing what you can find

on the internet. I'm telling you. It's really something. I think one of the cool things

about going over history like this is for one realizing that that was not that long ago.

No. It really wasn't that long. Yeah. Everything. And the idea that I would think is pretty universal

of, well, I give my kid milk. That's something we all do. You know what? To those lactose intolerant,

of course, different, but almond milk or what? Have you something along those lines with the

word milk in there? We're doing that. Right. The idea of being afraid that this could hurt my

child. Right. Because like going back in time and looking at how hard that must have been, how

difficult that must have been when there's very little like, well, it's okay. I can always give him

this alternative. There is no alternative. Right. This is the thing that most kids are built on.

This is the thing that builds our bones and all that. We're one of the few things that we know

scientifically helps our children. And then it could hurt our kids. Like how scary and how

intense that must have been for people back then. Well, and for somebody to say we need to do

something about this, how can we make this safe? Yeah. So that is still available.

It's, I mean, and that, that just, I love sweetened condensed milk as an ingredient, but knowing

this history, just, and the fact, I didn't know that you could just drink the sweetened condensed milk

or the evaporated milk. But it's designed to, I always thought it was just created to be used to

bait, to know that this is its history and how much it has held over the, I mean, this is less

than two centuries. Yes. Remarkable. The only thing I would, I would tick, just tinker with a little bit

in the storytelling of this and everything by historians is it did help us win the world. There is

no doubt about that. There is no doubt about it to me. It definitely did. Right. So yeah, yeah,

go on. I was going to say the biggest killer of soldiers in the Civil War was disease. Right.

It wasn't fighting us. And so this is what helped them, them, them be able to not die. I mean,

it helped kept them strong and be able to fight to the diseases that were out there. They got all

the nutrients of milk that they needed, plus the sugar that had extra calories and gave them

it. That they needed. Yep. So it says that bored and attempted to vacuum seal milk, but how

exactly is sweetened condensed milk made? Well, according to an article on masterclass.com,

sweetened condensed milk is a concentrated milk product made by heating cow's milk at reduced

pressure. The milk is heated until the water content has reduced by half. Then sugar is added

to bring the sugar content up to 55%. The resulting product is self shelf stable and used in a

variety of dessert recipes. Hand sweetened condensed milk was developed in 1861 in the United States,

but the history of cooking fresh milk with sweetener to increase its stability goes back

thousands of years, actually, to Indian milk sweets known as mithai. So when it says sweetened,

it's not kidding. Oh, no, no, it's not. That's why you have to be careful about ratios when using

this as opposed to evaporated milk. If you read, if you read my article in the last newsletter,

thank you very much Melissa for putting that together. But if you read that, you'll notice that I

referred to pumpkin pie using this ingredient. However, most pumpkin most recipes for this kind of pie

use evaporated milk, not sweetened condensed milk. I did, however, find a great new recipe,

using sweetened condensed milk at biteswithbrie.com that I'll put a link in my next article in

Nice. All right. It's amazing how this ingredient can be used though. Carol continues in her

article from linkisterfarming.com to say sweetened condensed milk also has some interesting and varied

uses around the globe. In the US, it is popular addition to recipes for ice cream,

key lime pie, and donut fillings. I was waiting for that. That one loves you.

In the Philippines, it is drizzled onto hollow, hollow, a very popular dessert made with coconut,

shaved ice, and choices of toppings. Jamaicans mix it with stout and cherry and nutmeg to make a

cream punch. We might have to try that one out. And Hong Kong breakfasts include French toast

made with toasted white bread, sweetened condensed milk, and peanut butter. Wow. Yeah. Who wouldn't

want a cup of spicy tea? Right? The Vietnamese and Taiwanese consider it a necessary addition to

their hot beverages. Not to leave out South American Brazilians with it with avocado to make a fluffy

and nutritious mousse. Now, I will add that the author of this article noted that she's not quite sure

about that last one. Well, that's good. I'm glad to know that. But, man, when Beth was writing this

yesterday, she's like, man, you're going to learn so much from this. You are so right. I have learned.

I didn't know any of this stuff. This is really cool. Maybe new like an inch of this, miles and miles

of image. Yeah. Well, and that's one of the exciting things about this segment is that we take

for granted the things that we use our kitchen all the time. We do. So what got them into the kitchen?

How can we use them better? And that's what I find exciting. You know, this was something I'm like,

okay, what can I do? That looked interesting. And then I went back to YouTube. And there is a,

and I'll use my favorite word again, plethora of recipes. So you can even make your own sweetened

condensed milk. Yeah. That's interesting. Yeah. It's again, YouTube is a great place to go.

There are several videos, or you can go to some trusted cooking websites like allrecipes.com.

Both have a multitude of recipes you can use for the ingredient and how to make it. And I've

actually twisted it like I've used it in cookies and cakes and baking before. But Seth will attest.

I attempted and made some fudge using a can of sweetened condensed milk. And oh, is it tasty?

It is. It was really remarkable. Yeah, it was good stuff. I don't believe you. I will need a sample.

Well, some may be coming in the future. Yeah, there you go. But again, it's a simple three

ingredient recipe. You use sweetened condensed milk, a little bit of vanilla, and some chocolate.

And you get some great fudge. You can make truffles out of sweetened condensed milk. It is a

phenomenal ingredient. You can also make your businesses advertising a little bit sweeter.

Everybody, we dive into some entertainment news now. And Kate Windsor, it's afraid of cows.

Just had to get in there. As celebrity phobias go, this is probably one of the most

unfounded. Kate Windsor, it is a terrified of cows. Okay. She says, quote, I go hiking all the time

and regular footpaths will take me through fields of cows. And I've decided that they are going to

stampede me to the ground one day. Oh my gosh. There is something a little bit behind Kate's fear.

Quote, there was a time when my mother was alive and she and I were on a walk and some cows

absolutely were catching up with us. Oh wow. They were slowly bow beeping it and they did speed it

up. Really, truly borderline couple of gallopers, I'd say. This is all her quotation. Talking about

Stephen Cobraire about this and everything. Oh my gosh. As a side note, Kate Windsor, it's going

to be one of the better interviews you're going to see. This is not somebody, while her voice and

her mannerisms, I think just a personify class, not her brain, not the way her brain works, man.

She is a real person. She's a real human being. Yeah. It's part of what makes her such a good actor

and is being able to tap into that and just be that. And quote, I've gotten, I've got to get better

at coping all that at that because you know, they're not really scary. Are they? They're not.

I mean, unless that's a bowl. Yeah. Bowls can be extremely scary. Yes. Bowls can be extremely

scary and you don't want to be in a pen with them. No, absolutely not. But yes, one's coming up.

They're just following you. It's what they do. Yeah. It's almost the equivalent of being

afraid of a turtle and like a turtle chasing you. Hold up. Hold up for one second because I am

afraid of being chased by a turtle because it happened to me when I was a kid. Really? Okay.

Yes. My brother. My brother had a saw shell turtle with a really long neck and they are fast.

They are fast and they're scary. Okay. So don't pick on me for being afraid of turtles.

You know, this whole nice thing is really stretching me middle of my limits right now. I'm not

making certain comments. Boy. Hey, you know, we had these childhood things happen to us. It can

affect us later in life as Kate has proven with her fear of cows. Well, my mother was a scratch by a cat

when she was like five or six and spent the rest of her life afraid of cats. Okay. I get it. I get it.

I get it. My mom has a thing with a snakes because some mean neighbor kids killed one in front of her

when she was a little kid. So now she just like snakes. Yeah. I have never seen my mother freak out

the way that she did when she found a snake on the hillside when she was gardening and oh my goodness.

Whoa. I did not know that woman was capable of that kind of ninja moves. What you snake food?

Yeah. It was it was very impressive and loud. Nice. I love it. I'm so glad all this came out.

I got the sit back. My popcorn. I enjoyed all those.

CNN's wolf blitzer isn't the only one using ancient means to watch their TV.

Now for those that may not get that reference or a recently wolf blitzer posted a picture of him

watching I think a football game in his you know basement and he's got a very old like in 90s TV

and stuff. I love it. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and he wasn't showing it because of that. He was just

showing it to show you. Yeah. Hey, look what I'm doing right now. Yeah. And then it turned into this

viral thing of like well, wow. We'll just got old TV. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he's not alone on this.

Christopher Walken who is starring in the one of the stars of the TV show Severance on Apple TV

Plus, which is a big show. And he's been very popular over the last couple of years.

He's on the show, but he can't watch the show. He doesn't have the quote equipment to stream apps

including Apple TV Plus. Oh, that's so funny. Christopher was recently asked if he'd seen all the

shows episodes and he said quote, not all of them. I can't. So, uh, so they're good. So they

send them DVDs. Oh, that's nice. Oh my gosh. The season two of the show premiered on Friday and

just rave reviews. People love that show. That's really cool. I love the idea. I mean, he's

not the only media person show that James and I both pay attention to sports show. Part of the

interruption Tony Cohen ours. It does not famously does not stream anything either. And I love

the idea that they're in television, but they can't watch. They can't watch the thing because they

don't have the thing or they don't they can't be bothered with learning how to use these the

streaming services. Or they can't be bothered to spend the money on it. I mean, obviously,

Christopher Walken isn't hurting for money. No, I'm sure he could afford it, but it's not what he's

choosing to spend his money on. And that's all so valid. I love it though. You're right. I'm

totally with you on that. That's great. A great story at CNN.com. And I was joking. I bring up

the Kate Winslet thing and her being afraid of cows and stuff. And in part to lead into a story

like this, because I think those are important just as much as it is to be able to not shut up

and dribble. You know, when we tell celebrities to we don't want to your opinions on this,

we don't watch your opinions on that. Well, you don't get it that way. You don't get to,

you know, when you watch a movie and like, okay, I loved 90% of that movie, but you got to take

the whole hundred percent. You got to take that 10% and with it. It's very similar with celebrities.

And you may not like a celebrity coming out and saying that how they feel about this or that.

But I bet you appreciate when they come together to help support natural disasters for years,

their platform to support a cause that you believe in. And I've seen a lot of this recently with

Tom Holland, who is one of the better young actors in the game today and is one of the more

established careers and certainly one of the bigger platforms being in the Marvel Universe and

being the face of Spider-Man and everything. And he's used this platform to talk a lot about

sobriety. And certainly as we are in January and it is a dry January is a big, big thing and

only getting bigger. It's really interesting. Not with our generations, but the younger generation

is all over this. It's really fascinating. Yeah. They're all over it. It is a huge,

it actually stands out more if you don't do it than if you do now. It's with the younger generations

and the idea of dry January and all of this. And Tom Holland has been finding ways to kind of

bring this up in topics and conversations without really forcing it. And certainly one of the

things that I think is so natural about him is not talking down to people, but talking with people.

He's talked a lot about sobriety and how important it is to have a support system.

Yes. And it really leaned into that. And just the honesty with it, I encourage you to check

out at the article at CNN.com. Their interview with him was fantastic.

Just being able to have those open conversations about it, it's especially hard here in Wisconsin

because so many people in this state are very proud of the fact that we are the drunkest state

in the union. So it's really difficult to have those conversations, but we need to.

Yeah. Yeah. Now more than ever.

Yes. You know, you can have, you can be proud of culture without necessarily needing to wrap

yourself in it and make you your complete identity. There are so many things to, I talk about this

with a lot of our representatives and I won't put any of them out there because none of them talk

about it on the air. But almost every single person you can think of that has joined me on these

airwaves. And one way or another has talked about the drinking culture in this state. And it is

killing this state. There's no getting around that. There's no romanticize. There's no way for me

to worry about it or anything like that. You can get mad at me if you want. You can go ahead and,

you know, send me your emails, james.mailoffice.gov. Media.us. But I ain't wrong on this. And we're

better than this and you have more to offer than this. Yes. Wisconsin is more than a drunk state.

Wisconsin is more than alcohol. It's bigger and better than that. Absolutely. There are a billion

things I can think of off the top of my head that are more impressive about this state and more

to love about this state than alcohol. Now that doesn't mean that alcohol is evil. No. Alcohol is

bad. Are we going to get rid of it or anything like that? Not at all. Just like everything,

moderation. Yes. Yes. And I think that that's a key part of not only this conversation, but all

conversation is going forward. Right. And I just looked it up on the DHS website. There is

some good news. Alcohol-related deaths did go down in 2023 from their peak in 2022. So that's

good. And they don't have all the information yet for 2024, obviously, because we just left that

year. Just getting the data together. We just left that year. We left that year. She looks so

long here. Bye. And wrapping up in the entertainment section here, the fire aid lineup. I know all of us

are making plans to go. The lineup for fire aid concert was announced yesterday and it is stacked.

And I just want to get this out there because I thought it was such an interesting list. Here are some

of the acts taken the stage, Billy Eilish, Grace Adams, Green Day, Gwen Stefani, Jelly Roll,

Johnny Mitchell, Katie Perry, Lee DeGaga, Pink, Red Hat Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Sting,

Steven Stills, Stevie Nicks. Wow. Dave Matthews and John Mayer are going to be there as well.

I thought some of those people were alive. Steven Stanley, just a wild, weird list of crazy things.

All genres represented there. One more act was announced yesterday and maybe this one was

it was a earthwind and fire is supposed to be there, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure how many

members are still with us. That's a good question. More acts and special guests will be announced in

the lead up to the show, which is scheduled for January 30th, Intuit, Dome and the Forum. There

will also be a live television streaming on multiple YouTube and Twitch channels on January 24th,

which is how a lot of us can catch it if we want to. It's going to stream on so many.

I don't know about anybody else, but as somebody who really misses going to concerts and everything,

this is one of the ways I've found that and it's fun. It's very fun. I've really enjoyed them

and especially if you're lucky enough to have your I watch most of stuff on my laptop,

but if you've got a nice big screen, whoo, it looks cool up there. Yeah, that's cool to make me feel

like you're really there and a lot cheaper. Oh, 100% cheaper, almost. I actually wonder if this is

concert going is going to be going forward. It's more and more of us having to pay $10, $20 or whatever

to get some exclusive kind of look into these shows that we can afford more than the $300, $400

that tickets go to the show. Or we find a way to rework the system. One of those two ways.

together. I like that's one of the cool things about these. I want, I hope, I hope there's some

really cool duets and stuff. Yes. That's what makes these concerts so cool. Because even like a

Lannis Morissette and Billy Eilish would be so cool. Oh wow. That would be awesome. Yeah. We'll

noted already, today is blue Monday, considered by many as one of the more depressing, if not the

most depressing day of the year. And it's just beginning of the year and it is an all-aggression day

and it is so many other things going on. So there's a lot of emotions. Interesting. No coincide.

Yeah. And with all that, if you listen to our show at all, you know how we run things around here.

We're not going to just sit in that sadness or anything. We're going to push back on it.

So with all that being said, I thought one of the fun things we'll be doing to do today,

we'll be looking ahead at 2025 and things to look forward to. Yeah. And there's a number of different

things you can look up and find for you if you were looking for your own list or looking for ways

to kind of add on to the things we bring up. I went to nicenews.com, which is a wonderful

website that does a lot of great reporting and you can check that out. It's also had to have just

been sitting there, that web name. I'm like, oh, jump on that. Yeah, who hasn't gotten this one yet?

Well, all right. Now, of course, my brain being what it is. I look at sports right away.

No, but hey, no, seriousness. There are some cool things happening in sports this year for

those of us who are just loving women's athletics in the WNBA. They are debuting a new team,

the Golden State Valkyries. Oh, it's a great name. Nice name. I mainly just wanted to say

Golden State Valkyries. It's a nice tie-in with the Warriors, the Valkyries. I like that. Very

cool. Yeah. Soccer fans, the World Cup tournament is slated for summer of 2026, but we're

having a lot of competitions happening here. And of course, North America's hosting

World Cup. Qualifiers this year, yep. There's no way we can prepare you for that, everybody.

There's just no way we can prepare you for that. It's such a big deal, man. I think about

what's going to happen here. The Super Bowl is gigantic. Here, it's big here. This is going to

be the Super Bowl happening here for every country that's represented in this tournament. And

they're all coming to our shores. They're all coming here for this. That's amazing. Yeah.

It's really cool. Football, or as we know, it's soccer is so huge in the rest of the world.

Yep. It is number one sport in so many countries. If you're looking for something to smile, I think

that you look up in the disguise and that can do it for you and everything. Got a lot of great

events happening in the solar-wise this year. Yeah, that's always cool. Man, all of solar events.

Yeah. The Quadronautist meteor shower happened earlier this month. That was pretty cool. We have

two lunar eclipses happening on March 14th and September 7th. Cool. We're going to have another

meteor shower in May and in August. So those are pretty cool. Those are cool. And those are

times the years we can be outside to watch them. Yeah, that's bogeylegly cold. You can go to

seasky.org and see the meteor showers if you'd like. They do a really good job. That's cool.

Yeah. That is pretty cool. The Medicare payment plans have launched already.

Which are going to help a lot of people. Yes. Excellent. Very cool. Let's see here. Minnesota has

become the first US state to ban PFAS. Really? Wow. I didn't know that. I saw somebody post

about this and they had purchased something online and the company replied, sorry, we can't

ship it to you because your state doesn't allow items with PFAS. Wow. How about that? Yeah.

Yeah. That's interesting. And hopefully the beginning of, you know, like a lot of things,

they had to start somewhere. A trend. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see what happens. Stop putting things

into our bodies and on our bodies that, you know, cause cancer. Yeah. This from the reporting of

Vice, the new law means Minnesotaans won't be able to sell or distribute for sale consumer products

that intentionally added PFAS within 11 specific categories, including cookware, dental floss,

and cleaning products. Some of the bigger culprits of them. Right. Stuff that, like Melissa says,

you come into contact with with your body either by ingesting or otherwise. And this is one of the

things, you know, where there's so much to champion and be proud of about this state. And there are

other things that I think to hold it accountable for. This is something we, I feel like, should have

been at the forefront of it. It's certainly been talked about a lot like Melissa's reporting

last couple of years about it up in Warsaw. I mean, it's all over the state. People have been talking

about it. Yeah. Having the first, you know, water processing plant that removes PFAS from the water.

That's a big deal. That's a very big deal. Yeah. As long as I've been talking to representatives

in this area, this is the most consistent topic. This is the most consistent one. The one that

has come up the most. Interesting. And hopefully we will see some work being done on this one and

this one. It's open. Turin in northern Italy will host the Special Olympics World Winter Games

from March 8th to the 15th. Notice the flagship event for a Special Olympics. Very cool.

And a good. And some games that are becoming more and more popular, by the way. Yeah. It's really

cool to see. I think they should get a spotlight. Yeah. Absolutely. Again, one of the things that

I thought would be fun about this bringing this up is highlighting some of the things that we may

have not heard about. Now you would think in a 24 seven news cycle that we'd hear every story.

But no, of course not. So this is fascinating. And the headline of this is drones will begin

clearing trash from Mount Everest. What? Really? Whoa. Oh, that is the best use of drones I've

heard yet. This spring, drones, a capable of heavy lifting will begin to clear trash from Mount

Everest, one of the most famous and tallest mountains in the world. As reported previously,

the 2020 for spring, a climbing season saw nearly 94 tons of waste collected. Oh,

an unfortunate byproduct of the site's popularity, which has earned it the unflattering

nickname of the world's highest garbage dump. Cheese? Or the world's tallest toilet. Yeah.

A test season in April of 2024 established that one drone could carry over 515 pounds of trash

between base camps every hour, every hour. That's a lot. Wow. As a side note, can we also stop

littering? I mean, like, you know, come on. It's like one of the drones out of work.

What are the wonders of the world? Yes. It's covered in better. Shall we?

I get ready. I think most people by now, if you've seen a eco-friendly hummer, you feel like you've

seen it all. And that's where the trend has taken all car companies. All car companies are going

green. I'm not saying that we're getting rid of gas, but they're giving the option to this.

This is business 101. This is me, you know, everything I've said about Ben and Jerry,

they sell ice cream. Hey, wait a minute. There's this whole group of people who are not selling ice,

boom, lactose intolerant ice cream. Yeah. It's just the business 101 of this and everything.

And I think that it says something that luxury cars are doing this as well. Luxury car

maker Ferrari is revving up its engines to enter the electric vehicle arena in 2025. Wow.

It will unveil its first ever EV with the model expected to go on sale in 2026. All right. See,

even Ferrari is still on it. I mean, come on. Guys, some of those electric cars go real fast.

They do. Like zero to real fast, real fast. We're not, we're not talking about this, you know,

like 90s electric cars where everyone apparently keeps thinking that's where electric cars are.

They can only go five feet and you know, and go two miles an hour. I got to ride in one and

whoa. Cool. That's cool. That's cool. Yeah. I'm still waiting for the cars where we just,

we grab them and we just pull them backwards a couple of times and then he let it go.

Are you pulling the string a whole bunch of times to rev it up? Yeah. That's kind of going to

go friendly, right? Yeah. It is. It's like manpower. It might even had a bumper on the front where

when it ran into a wall, the torque switched in with the other direction. Why don't we all just

use bumper cars? Why are we not all just driving around and bumper cars? Let me look into

that one a little bit. Clown cars. We could pack a lot of people. There we go. There we go.

A new public transportation. And the happiest country in the world is making a name for itself in

ocean preservation preservation. Finland will, Finland will prevent cargo ships from dumping

wastewater. Wow. So it's discharged into the Baltic Sea contains so much waste. Oh my god.

They're not going to get into it. Yeah. So this is something that is a long time coming and

quote now in Finnish waters, this this will no longer be possible. The hope is that other nations

will follow Finland's lead on this. Yes. Absolutely. That would be good. And that involves us

working together. It does. Yeah. No plan. And this planet is all connected. We, you know, even

after Pangea, we are still connected more than ever in some ways. Nice deep cut. And it's important

for us to work together, to be a part of the UN, to be a part of these things going forward,

working together on these. You know it. Um, there is no money that can buy a new planet.

Nope. There is no moving to Mars. Everybody. No. That is not high in the sky. No.

Even if even if that is a possibility, it is, we're talking like three thousand thirty two.

Like, and not only are we not going to be here, we may not even like the human race. It doesn't

have as a chance of not being here. And if that's your, if that's your plan, be there or whatever.

We, this is it. This is what we got. We have to make this work. This isn't about being eco-friendly,

tree hugging any of that. Whatever terms you want to throw out there, anything like that.

This is about survival. This is about this is about us being here and going forward.

For future generations and having a planet that our children's children will want to live on.

Exactly. And being able to watch premier movies when they come out like the new, that's where

we're real wrap up. That's, you know, there's no segue. The most important thing.

There's a bunch of great new movies coming out this year. A lot of people are excited about.

Apparently, there's a new Smurfs movie coming out. Really? Really? A new Jurassic Park movie will

be coming out. Really? Yeah, that one. I don't know if I saw the last one, but I like the original

Jurassic Park movie. So I think it's fun. If I got this right, I think they might be resetting it.

I think they might be resetting the Jurassic Park thing. I'm not sure. I look at that.

The series. I'm not sure. But you got a lot of the best filmmakers in the world coming out with

movies this year. Steven Sautenberg, Barry Levinson, Danny Boyle, James Cameron, Wicked Part 2 will

be coming out. There's a live action snow white from Disney and I'm sorry, everybody. I got a

little take it back here. Dirty dancing, too. I did not see this. What is going on here?

Okay, you know, we got to go to commercial break. I promise you, everybody. I will. Yeah,

dirty. There already was a sequel to dirty dancing. Yeah, there was. That's a nice movie.

They came in with a wall, 23% on run tomatoes. I don't know if I've ever seen that.

Maybe this is something different. Maybe it's an actual sequel from the first one.

I don't know. There's no Patrick Swayzee. Sorry, you lost me. I mean,

dirty dancing, too. Baby gets out of the corner.

Baby has a baby. Yeah. Oh, it's going on. Those are all probably better ideas than they have.

Dirty dancing. Dirty dancing, too. This one, more, more, you know,

more sensitive. Not quite so filthy. Maybe not as creepy.

Yeah, maybe that is creepy. Oh, yeah. Oh, that age difference. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, not to mention that. I like Patrick Swayzee as a human being as an actor.

And I miss him. And I wish he was still around walking. I hate that this is one of his more famous

roles. His characters, not exactly a good guy in this.

But it looks like Jennifer Gray is actually involved in this one. Oh, good for her.

their area. I wanted to touch on like we have a blood drive happening tomorrow. Tomorrow from 10

donating. That's right. This is a really important time of year to donate if you can because

donations drop this time of year. They do. The Lowell Senior Center will again partnering with

the AARP to provide free tax counseling for those who meet the criteria. They kick this off today.

We're going to go ahead and talk another 20 minutes and we'll use this on some other programming

because we could have just hit it off really well with Jeff. Great guy. Really fun to talk to on

air off air. And really appreciate him sharing not only a story, but doing it comedically.

everybody. These will be hand-delivered by staff at many of the facilities that they have there.

Please no candy, food or snacks due to allergies or dietary restrictions. Just keep that one in mind.

A dog in Insta Istanbul Turkey is in the news after showing up at a vet's office

carrying a sick puppy in her mouth. Someone found one of her other puppies and brought it in

and she followed them there with the other one. Oh my goodness. Both puppies were close to death

but they're all okay. Now everybody's doing all right. Great story. But man that is just amazing.

This dogs are so smart. Yes they are. It's really something. Sometimes things just work

themselves out. A woman at a beach in Australia left her key fob to close to the water and it got sucked

into oh by a wave. Oh no. So she freaked out until another big wave spit it right back out.

Well thank you Ocean. Thank you for that. Yes. Like you know these viral videos sometimes could be

like oh they just saw this coming or they planned this or whatever. This is such a genuine thing.

Like the video I had to watch it like well did she just plan this? I mean that is how waves work.

But no no she there's at least that or she is a Michelle fight for a level actress or something.

It's a very good performance. Very cool. A reporter in LA talked to an LA

a fire captain named Dan Levis who saved an entire block of his neighborhoods homes from the

east and fire in Al Tadea. Wow. His brother is a firefighter too and came to help. Dan

his brother and Dan's son James kept it at it kept it up for 48 hours and saved 14 homes. Oh my

goodness. Wow. James says he plans to follow in his dad's footsteps and be a firefighter someday.

Wow. Yeah head start young man. That was excellent. Wow. That's something. Yeah that's a story.

Uh I know he's still got to take the test but it almost feels like it's like I'll be sure

you have to take it. I know what you're doing. Yeah.

Uh Israel and Hamas followed through with their ceasefire deal yesterday and the first three

hostages got released from Gaza. All three are Israeli women who have been held for 15 months.

Wow. They're the first of 33 Israeli hostages being returned over the next six weeks.

Israel agreed to return 90 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the first three.

Okay. Um there's uh no you know any context of this one I feel like we all know how important

this is. Yeah. Yes. And and and what a good good story of the day. Um and again it is uh

Martin Luther King Jr. Day which uh reminder that our studios will be closed today our offices

will be closed today. Um but uh doors are locked. Doors are locked. Um so everybody inside your stock

no um you can't get out. No no but we do want to remind you that as far as stopping by make plans

to stop by tomorrow if you need to. Yeah exactly. And make plans to do some good today put some

good out into the world. Yeah. Let's do it. Be good to each other certainly. Cover your skins.
