Terry and James hanging out with you. We hope you're having a fantastic Wednesday out there.

Happy hump day to everybody. We're going to get into some fun this morning. We'll kick

into some entertainment news in a moment. Get into our schedule a little bit later.

Got some other stuff topics I want to get into too. Can you guess how much the

average diaper costs and this is an interesting one that's going to lead us down a

rabbit hole of parenting by numbers and hopefully give a little empathy and a

little bit of maybe extra context to some of the Al's report and some of the

other things we've talked about with our friends from the United Way in the

last couple of weeks. Let's kick off with some entertainment news Terry and

Lifetime announced there. It's a wonderful Lifetime holiday movie lineup yesterday.

I saw it. It kicks off November 16th. Among the 12 new movies there's one

inspired by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey of course. It's called Christmas in the

Spotlight and it premieres November 23rd. The plot sounds kind of familiar. A

pop star who hasn't found Mr. Wright meets a professional football player backstage

in one of her shows. I mean they're owning it. They're saying what it is. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.

You know honestly I'm more of a I have nothing against Lifetime movies like Christmas

time but I'm I'm more inclined to go to the Hallmark channel. Okay. All right. Same day. That's

right. They do. I was wondering. That's right. Like you know every day movies around the clock

that are the same as I've got some friends in the acting community that do a lot of work in these

movies. A lot of extras work and stuff. Most of them work at both companies. Oh I'm sure they

just go basically from because they actually film these almost back to back like

Hallmark will film theirs and then Lifetime films theirs because they know this which I think

is actually kind of cool for the acting community. And I would I wouldn't watch a second of one of

these movies. I could be honest with everybody. But I love what they the opportunities they give

to actors and writers and that they kick these movies out like soap operas. Oh cool. Well that's

right. And they're and they're very similar and they have a lot of the same people. You know

which is kind of funny sometimes to me but but I for me I don't eat well they are like soap operas

because you don't have to sit down and watch them. So if you're baking cookies and you have it

on in the TV in the background and it's just I don't know there's something about the festiveness of

it. I like I said it's not for me but they're not meant for me and and that's okay. Like it's

all right to have a romantic. Oh definitely. That part that part of me for sure might help you

actually. It's actually not just talking about that way but maybe I should be watching this baby.

I'll be like mental note. You should be adding that like on your little profile. Watch these and

make but you know James is watching now. What what I like one of the things I like about these

movies. Whatever they do this kind of stuff. I hope so they're saying I he's a football player.

I don't know if he's an NFL football player. I love when they can't use the actual teams

could names. Oh yeah. It's just like a blank jersey or they have to make up something. It's

even better when they make up you know team names and maybe it'll be like maybe the teams will

be like how would they relate it. Oh they could have you know okay they could have a team for

each reindeer. Why it could be the blitz in the comments. I mean you know um so they're they're

this is essentially a really carbon copy of a lot of the Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift relationship

and kind of playing off of that and how they deal with the paparazzi and all those things.

Other movies that might interest your mom uh including or moms or I mean if your mom's not

with you at your interview she might be able to watch a lifetime movie. Well done. The holiday junkie

starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. Uh Christmas at Plum Hill Matter. Uh starring Mia Maria Manunos.

A very merry beauty salon to their Tiamori. Uh from October 21st to January 1st. Lifetime will

also stream 100 holiday movies on their app and their website. So they've got that going too. They

are writing that we are in full holiday go everybody. I'm going. I am in. We're all in. Uh a good

honor for doing these and and you know look if you don't like them that's fine they're not meant for

you. Click a different channel. Yeah there's plenty of them. Thank you for watching. Uh I don't

I don't I don't like the idea of entertainment shaming uh you know like what you like. Speaking of

liking what you like uh I like Chris Stapleton. I like I like um I've realized doing more of the

sunrise show and working over 105 five more. There's a handful of country artists that I should have

been listening to for a long time. I mean uh there's there's a handful out that wholeheartedly admitted.

I just didn't I didn't know much of Tim McGraw's work. I didn't know much of Miranda Lambert. I'm

listening to him. Now they're in my playlist. Now I listen to him all the time. Another one of

those artists is Chris Stapleton. I don't know how you can't like Chris Stapleton. Yeah like whatever

music you listen to and everything. Um and and part of what I like about him is things like this

that he says and he does. Um I like artists that write their own music. I like artists that

don't put on airs necessarily. I don't got anything against an artist putting on a show and

having a costume and all that. But I like it when you're interviewing them and you're talking to them

that's a real person and and they're legit real and man you weren't going to find many more real

of people than Chris Stapleton. And he waited on the debate uh recently on what uh what is real

country music? That this question to keep coming up and everything. What counts as real country music?

Well Chris Stapleton weighed in on the debate on the Lance Armstrong podcast and said a lot of people

forget it's never really been just one thing. There's always been a broad spectrum of music living

under the country banner. He said if you go back through the decades there's also been a pop side

something a little grittier and stuff that meets in the middle. So he doesn't get caught up in

the debate. It's just different strokes for different folks. He noted that even a lot of his own

stuff doesn't fit under the cookie cutter definition of what country music is or was but nobody

under the sun doesn't consider him a country artist. See when I think of his music I think of

that gritty your side. You know you know what I mean like that's where I that's where I put him.

But yeah I mean fair enough right there's always going to be different variations of and really

doesn't matter. I don't know if it was it's my favorite country song but I think the first

outside of like Johnny Cash or Patsy Klein the first country song that I really an artist that

I really got into on my own was Whalen Jennings. I didn't know he was a country artist at the time.

I just knew I read about him and heard his music and heard his voice I'm like I dig this guy

like what he's doing I like I would this guy's talking about and he's got a song maybe my favorite

song of his you sure Hank done it this way and it's all about this it's about the beginning of

outlaw country and then wanted to do something different and look these guys and these rhinestones

and everything on stage that ain't for me man I want to do something different and then you

had the people that were in the middle of that that that like the some of the popier stuff and

like to sell albums and make money but also one of the stay true to the roots and everything

like a Dolly Parton or Willie Nelson or Chris Christoffer Center some of these artists that walked

online anybody consider Willie Nelson a sellout anybody consider him a country artist I think so

I think he consider him a country artist and nobody under the sun would consider him a sellout

but also Willie Nelson not necessarily somebody you can type you know I think that this is always

existing in country music we just have more time on our we have more time and more ability to

complain and whine about things that really have nothing to do with us and really don't solve

anything a lot of the complaining that goes on with this with artists of jumping into genres

or any of these things for one I would love to have the free time to be able to just sit there

and whine on social media about this artist doing this music that is my music and blah blah blah

like I can imagine having that kind of time but also get over yourselves you are not a gatekeeper

you do not get to say what is country and I'm saying that not only to the fans out there but to

country artists actual musicians of all music nobody gets to hold like the the gate here and say

this is this is the you know and this would be fun if there was like an iron fist like

kind of no you're no no no you're over here you're over here I mean you know it would be interesting

but but I think you know the cool thing about this story is is Chris Stapleton true to form

didn't take the bait yeah you know yes yes exactly yes yeah he because he's because he speak

it's it goes back to the Mark Twain line if you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything

you know and I love how intelligent he took the question too like you know he really

broke it down I think giving people the history context or maybe even gives people the chance to

go back and listen to some co all classic country and some stuff back in the day and everything

speaking of country if you're still searching for a Halloween costume this year may we suggest you

go as your favorite country music star we've got here are some ideas for the best the easiest

and some of the easiest country music Halloween outfits so okay this is going that direction

I kind of one of this I I would like to do another segment on country stars and how they

dress up and who does it the best I kind of thought that's their direction they were going in

with this because honestly there's a couple like there's a handful of you know celebrities

to do a big deal on on Halloween seems like the country music industry does a real like they

really go all in on this one there's a there's a lot of country stars that really do a big job a

big get up like you have to think every year people are dressing up as Dolly Parton every year

and she's number one on the list yeah yeah especially because they say that this is not only the

best and most recognizable but also one of the easier costumes to make with Dolly Parton yeah

with socks because all you all you need is a big bra and socks all you really need is the really

big big win whatever Eric Church moving out Eric Church they have an extra this list it's basically

keeping an out of you I mean it's a fact really yes it really is and and you can to be Dolly Parton

I mean there you go Eric Church what do you need a leather jacket aviators black leather jacket black

t shirt and black aviators nicely done too nice and done uh Laney Wilson pretty pretty standard

to bell bottoms bell bottom yes a wide brimmed hat and some western inspired jewelry so some turquoise

put some turquoise in there and everything I like her style like I don't know many people

could pull it off but she pulls it off great oh she yeah it's awesome uh Chennai Twain hmm okay

long dark wig yeah a brunette wig with bangs and leopard prints jumpsuit wow you are nailing this

uh that is good nice um and Willie Nelson um no point yeah I was gonna say you can only really do

Willie Nelson's costume in certain states I mean but but okay but if you decided to leave that

behind then you need braids and a bandana you got to have the braids yeah and the red bandana yeah

that definitely in a beard you got to have a red beard uh I I saw and you have to be short

I the uh I forget that he is that's right there's some good ones you can have some fun with these

actually um there's some pretty good ideas here I'm trying to think of other country artists

that you can play me Johnny Cass I'm gonna say Johnny uh you know you're just pretty much in all

black oh that's a good one Rola Rola is a good one I like the idea they got jelly roll on here

but it's just all in black and you have a big beard uh and you have like lots of sharpie to clean

off the next day when you're trying to get the tattoos off your skin right that's right oh yeah yeah

um so a lot of I got I'm not trying to be mean here uh a lot of these costumes like Luke

Holmes and some of these like some of you are already wearing this like some of these costumes

basically like what you wear just going you know about your day and everything he's talking

about all the red necks out there I self included it's all good yeah yeah I'm not calling it out I'm

I'm saying what about what about Reba Reba shows up on this list for Reba you're gonna want

to black skinny jeans rodeo belt buckle Auburn wig black blazer and some snake print on a snake print

blouse I could say I can see that yeah oh yeah totally yeah that's pretty good you got to have

the red hair oh you definitely have the red hair yeah that's definitely it um and uh and yes

Willie Nelson with uh there's some good uh uh uh uh uh uh uh Darius Rucker uh it's got one

two where it's uh but it's basically everything else that we were just talking about it's basically

the same outfit that's fun that's a fun one I like that uh who are you dressing up as for Halloween

everybody we want to hear let us know uh we got plenty of time here before uh the big day uh and

we're going to be celebrating it a little well and by we I mean I uh I don't want to I didn't

want to put this on set the Melissa but that we're doing the show together on Thursday on that

Halloween it's the Thursday this year for those that don't know um and I've got a uh outfit that

I'm gonna wear that's safe for work uh and uh and by that I mean so so what you were going to be

Edwards his or hands really decided maybe not right uh I so I've mentioned this before Carl

than I used to talk about this and it was one of our things that we really wanted to do together

was celebrate Halloween and both dress up with costumes and everything but we're very worried

about there being some big breaking news or something like that while we're giving new yeah

you don't want to be telling some groundbreaking story while you're dressed up as a clown

why not I mean it just doesn't work uh that doesn't work although that would be kind of funny

that would I mean I'm just saying most costumes you wear something underneath I think I found a

costume that fits uh for that uh in case that happened so that's yeah what two weeks from tomorrow

oh you this plenty of time to get your stuff together though let us know what you're dressing up

i mean set this really up to this game he really he's a master at this stuff uh big shout out to him

and uh nice work with the bumpers and everything and the spooky bumpers and we're gonna talk about

that kind of a spooky subject a scary subject right here when it comes to parenting and money

i think that's all we've been doing is talking about spooky subjects that's been a bit of that

is one legged pants bring your parent here interview unintentional but certainly the theme of the

day yes um can uh no last week uh we were joined by Ben and we were talking about the

else report uh Terry from the united way we had a great uh segment there encouraged people

to find that segment at syvkmedia.us you can find all of our shows podcasted there check out

that interview if you didn't get a chance to hear it so we really got a chance to dive into the

else report and the numbers and the details of that and really you know uh uh kind of a a a

a a synopsis of that um if you are uh living tech to check or if you're somebody that is well off

or what have you you are not that far away from somebody who is not and and i think that is a

a key to this conversation too and it kind of ties into that a bit yeah i mean it's it's about

the community as a whole right i mean we know that 35% of the households here just in wood

county for instance um are struggling or are at that paycheck to paycheck point right so no

savings no emergency fund um and so you know thinking about what that what that means and the

potential impact that that has but then we also have you know 35% of families who potentially really

are struggling you know there's four days till payday and and what do we do you know like how do we

how do we make ends meet how do we get gas in the car how do we you know that there's a what

there's a lot of a lot of factors and the other thing that you know adds to the complexity is that

it's not the same issue in every household right like like some families are strapped with

medical bills some families have you know something something break down and appliance quit working

or you know like it's it's it's not a one size fits all cookie cutter fix so there's you know

there's understanding what families are going through it and the complexity that goes with that

but then also what it means as a community right to help up to help lift up all of those people

and and how that affects us and so whether that is a friend family member in need it's ourselves

you know who our neighbor are um you know the the parent of a of a child in our child's classroom

or you know something like that like like there's just 35% is significant and so there are

struggles that are happening and and you know the Alice report just puts a sheds a light on that

on understanding right like like what does it actually cost someone to live here in Wood County

or in Adams County or any county in this whole state because we commissioned the report and it's

different of course what it might cost somebody to live in Green Bay it is different than what it might

cost somebody to live here but but understanding and acknowledging the those costs and and what

that means on the reverse the income side of it and then what is a community we need to do to help

bridge those gaps so can you guess how much uh the average diaper costs in 2024 I couldn't tell you

the last time I bought diapers or anything so it's been a long time I don't know uh you know we have

a staff member who's going on maternity leave really shortly so we just did a little um diaper

party for her so that's the first time I bought diapers well I bought some diapers to donate

for the diaper drive but I mean prior to that yeah it's been a long time a study by the site

parenting by number found it's 29 cents a diaper like physical type like actual diaper that's if

you're buying in bulk and it really can add up now if you throw it into your uh search engine and

you look at you know diaper costs or anything like that you're gonna see everywhere from 10 to 15

dollars to 75 you know 51 75 I see some even higher than that um and and a little like yeah

a little shocking to me in 29 cents might in that's buying in bulk which not everybody has the

capacity to do right to front that but but the other thing is that might sound like really 29

cents 50 cents well but you got to remember you're going through eight to 12 diapers a day yeah

you know what I mean it's not like it's not like children wear one diaper and nor should they

it's not good for their skin of course or for their you know they're they're general hygiene

and health but but you know you have to think about it that way is you know times 12 or 10 let's

say we just use a wrong number and then buy how many days of the week so it it is significant

I don't feel like you can ever have enough diapers too like it just never felt like we had

enough even we were you know we get a bunch of them or something like that it didn't seem like

we had them out let's take a phone call good morning you're on the show yes my mother had at

least two kids and diapers all the time growing up though oh bless her she had cloth diapers and

she had a wash diapers quite a bit yeah my mom too I remember that too yeah well like when my

obviously my parents who will they use cloth diapers for me because I remember them using them

for my younger siblings so that would have meant you know they did for me too but you know

that's just an awful job oh yeah yeah just an awful job yeah shout out to our moms shout out to

her dad yeah shout out to our parents out there yeah all three of us can relate to that one

sir yeah a bolt of us can relate to that one yeah but it for some people out there listening some

younger people out there listening they might be shocked by that they may I don't know how many

people know that that's was a thing or if it's something that came back thank you for the

closer I think something else important that he brought up too though is multiple children

and diapers at the same time right like you know so there's there's that part of it too and that's not

I mean that's not unheard of right like it's it's not uncommon where children are less than two

years apart you know or I mean that's right like that's just part of another thing to keep in

mind with this yeah yeah so they check bulk prices at more than 40 major stores and websites and

here are the five cheapest cheapest diaper brands parents choice at Walmart 11 cents diaper or

$370 a year loves from through Amazon 14 cents Sam's club has brand diapers up and up at target

uh that's a great name by the way up and up I like that uh Costco has brand diapers as well

target Walmart and Amazon were all on that list but that doesn't mean all of the diapers they

sell are are cheaper or affordable the most expensive option was hello bellow diapers at target

from 94 cents per diaper or about two thousand seven hundred dollars a year on diapers um but it's

because they don't truly sell them in bulk so I also wonder though I mean right like anything and

everything quality yep and so I mean I'm just saying like if you buy the 11 cent ones and maybe

that's fine but but are you going through twice as many because whatever they're blowing out

they don't stay dry they're you know so it's like there has to be a balance I don't think you

probably need I mean maybe you do but I wouldn't have needed the 94 cent diaper yeah I mean I get

that but but it's kind of like I would I would I think I would be weary if my children were diaper

age like to be I'm a low low end because I be worried about what's gonna happen to me especially

when you grow up get right the leaking because while they you know it is certainly their skin to

deserve bodies you are also dealing with the big portion yeah yeah I that's it's one of

and it's such a again going back to the ALS report when you have to make those decisions and

you're standing there looking at the thousands of diaper options that they have nowadays I can only

imagine there's a billion options for everything so there's going to be for diapers and all you want

to do especially think about these first time parents and and you can have all the help in the world

and everything you know read all the books and everything but you're standing there real time

in front of those diapers and all you want to do is the right thing by your kid but you also know

that you have to be able to survive and keep pay the you know for the lighting so you got to

find that balance and I um that that's 90 and and here's the other nice little curve ball at

everything there is no one-size-fits-all truly because every kid's skin and bodies are different so

while might work for one kid the next kid it doesn't work for or you know what you're you know

the diapers that you got for free or something from some great organization or some parent or

a sibling that helps you out or something and oh turns out those don't work with my kid or

or something like that and so it begins. There's that curve ball that they love to throw at you yeah yeah

um it all of this comes back to parenting is not easy let's be let's look out for each other let's

look out for parents it is very very very easy to judge let's try not to do that and just or even just

very least keep it in your head just share what works though you know what I mean like you might

find things that work are these little life hacks that work or you know what I mean share those

yeah and and and certainly keep it out and for different ways that you can help out your community

when it comes to things like this like the great diaper drive that you guys did at the United

Way a while ago yeah we'll have that back um you know the plan is stay the same so we'll run

that from Mother's Day to Father's Day so let's really yeah looking forward to it uh we'll be

us everybody we hope you're having a good day out there uh we're talking kids a little bit here

so let's continue that conversation from before continuing a little kid conversation you give your

kids all sorts of advice and and they don't always listen to or maybe most of it or half of it or

what have you uh a new poll on financial advice found really uh is about half parents including

people with adult children say that their kids listen to their financial advice 54% of the time a

little more than half not following all of your parents advice might be a good call though most

admitted that they're not too confident in some of the advice they give the average parent

thinks that they give good advice when it comes to budgeting and saving money but only 41%

feel confident take talking about credit cards or some of those types of things and just 32%

said staying about managing debt financing a car 29% feel confident about that how to invest 21%

and an advice on retirement 16% is that funny when you're not 100% confident it but you just be

careful about like the inflection of your voice in your tone and just you know make it be confident

yes yes boy yeah you can you can you can sell a lot of things with just the with tone of your

voice the way you say certain things especially to your kids right so I guess the first thing that

stands out to me about this Terry is how few of us in life really do feel confident about our finances

or discussing finances or get not so much even giving advice but like hey I do this what do you do

you know and even talking we're we're we're such a financially based society and economic based

society and yet money is uncomfortable for most of us to talk to talk about personally I feel

pretty confident about it but I also am not a preacher like I'm not going to be like oh you should

do this you should do this but if you come to me and say you know hey how could I invest a little

bit or how could I you know whatever what's a good strategy for this I have no problem sharing

like what's worked or what hasn't worked you know for us like I I'm pretty confident in that area

more so maybe then in some others we we joke all the time or I joke all the time especially

with my kids you know hey do the opposite of what I say or something like that if I give advice but

in some ways there is a little bit of truth into that in the sense of even know that there is

almost not necessarily bad advice if you're just telling them this is what I do take you know take

the ball and run with it you do your version of this or hey you you know this didn't work for me

or something like that but again it comes back to how how few of us become adults and really

feel confident under did okay I'm in charge now I'm in charge of the bills what do I do yeah

there's so few of us to go into our adulthood feeling economically smart feeling smart about

financing and everything so that stands out to me about this right away but I also think that

there's the other side of it too where when we were kids we had to be really smart with our money

now you I mean I every penny every penny you got to be smart with so you can I mean you can

agree or not agree I don't I don't really care but but but I mean just like in general like

and it doesn't have to be this but for me like I'm like a Dave Ramsey junkie like his you know his

philosophies on money and how that works and and anybody listening can have somebody else they

learn from or or whatever but but for like for me those those principles really resonated and you

know translated into you know a really good style of managing money and also teaching our kids

to manage money we were actually just talking about this over the weekend so it's funny that you

bring this up because the girls were laughing they're like yeah remember we had those Dave Ramsey

envelopes because he has like a kid system but I mean but you know regardless of of what what

philosophies or practices you might you might engage in it might be something your own parents

taught you or you know or or something that you heard somewhere but but yes having I think

having a plan for your money you know just makes a big difference right versus flying by the

senior pants like oh why have this much money I can do those I can do this but but if you give

every dollar a job so to speak you know and that could be savings it could be spending it could

be whatever bills but but it is funny because we were literally just talking about this just a few

days ago but but I think that you know the the more you practice something anything you're more

confident you aren't it right well it's I will say I'm coming kind of think from the other side

of this and everything it can be hard to teach finances when you don't have any and that that

part can be difficult it's hard to save money when you have nothing to save or it's hard to plan

ahead when you can't you're thinking about today or this moment or this bill even in those in those

situations though you really can learn a lot and you really can teach a lot as a parent and as a

kid learn a lot from your parents I agree with you wholeheartedly that there's no one-size-fits-all

and that certain systems are going to work for certain families better than others yeah and

and I again when it comes to this advice I don't necessarily think there is so much bad advice as

just the everything you hear take it with a grain of salt and and take it how does it fit my life

I don't care if it's Warren Buffett or Dave Ramsey whoever it is these people don't know you

they don't know your lifestyle so adapt to your adapt whatever they're saying to your life and

trying to make it work best as you can because anybody can sell you a good bill you know in that

when it comes to you know you know your life better than anybody so I think that having some

confidence in your own decisions is also important and I think it's awesome that personal finance

on some level is required in high school now yes and so you know and and even just really like

basic basic principles did you know they don't teach you to balance checkbook anymore

I'm just gonna make this up yeah but but the idea that regardless of your income if your

income is you know if you're a kid and your income is $20 a week because you're hustling lawns

like you used to but but actually putting it on paper you know teaching teaching kids that

teaching anybody that but actually regardless of the amount of income you know list all

list your income list all of your financial obligations right you know I mean that could be

the electric bill when you're a kid it's probably not but it might be a new pair of shoes

and you realize you don't have enough income so you have to save some of that to you know to work

toward it so so actually I just love that personal finance is part of and it's not gonna

solve everything but it's gonna be another tool in the toolbox for that kid later to be like oh

you know what if I write this down and put it in front of me I'll see it differently then I see

just the bills in my wallet right you know so I think there's some really awesome strategies

that are are planting seeds maybe not creating habits yet but but planting seeds especially in our

youth which is so important it's so much of where we go with with with this is parents and

teaching our parents so we're you know teaching our kids teaching our parents you know some of us

still do that so but I keep wondering one of these days my parents are you know that finally

I'm not gonna have to parent my parents one of these days no no um you know your mom just reached

through the radius that's waiting for me as soon as I see her next that is exactly waiting for me

I appreciate too that there is the options there are for people out there and I think we're

getting better and better as a society talking about money and being honest about money and everything

and the idea of some families not feeling you know okay I don't have as much to give I don't

have as much to spend or something and not feeling ashamed of that I think that that's a big part

of where we need to go with if we really want to solve a lot of our money issues in this society

one of the first places we can start stop shaming each other about how much money you have like

this idea of that that means that you're better more successful or you're more important or

something like that because of how much money you have I some of the most amazing greatest people

I will ever know had nothing and some of the people that have taught me the greatest lessons I know

had very little um I it's the opposite to me in my life I know one or two people that I've met that

are rich than are millionaires or anything like that they're actually decent people that I would

take their advice from I know more poor people that I would listen to every day especially about

finances because guess what when you ain't got a lot you know you know how I'm literally making

every cent count yep you know all the stretchers right yes yeah and not shaming each other and not

trying to also tell people what to do with their money like that's a big part of this too um there's

a lot of layers to this one that I think we can we can see some positives too in our society but

also some work to be done um and and you know savings never a bad idea I know the investing question

though was the one that threw me the most like if my kid came to me and asked me where to invest I

I don't know hand sanitizer that seemed to be a pretty consistent one I don't know I've got

nothing on that I got nothing on the best I think there's a lot of hand sanitizer still sitting

around that's right there's a couple of different angles I want to get to this story and I

I didn't really have a segue for this one or anything but I think it's just an incredible story

an 18 year old uh named a Sam Dutcher was driving into Minnesota from North Dakota on the night

of Tuesday September 17th when his vehicle a 2022 Honda Pilot went uh would not stop accelerating

the vehicle's computer had malfunctioned Sam called 911 explained that his car kept going

faster and faster the authorities tried some troubleshooting over the phone so they tracked him down

but nothing they tried worked Sam spent around 20 minutes in the runaway car flying through

intersections at 80 miles per hour than 90 100 all the way up to 113 the cops were initially hoping

to drop some sticks in this path but Sam was going too fast and they didn't have time the officers

were looking at his path and saw that uh he was heading towards a T in the road and they knew

they had to do something quick so one brave officer Minnesota State Troopers Zach Grover

raced up to him sped past him at 130 miles per hour in his Dodge Charger got in front and another cop

deputies Zach Johnson told Sam to crash into the cruiser he did and both vehicles skidded to a stop

miraculously with no injuries it's not crazy and an interview afterward Sam said my mind started to

go I am going to die tonight but he kept his cool enough to follow the instructions he later met

state troopers Zach and told reporters when you're in the moment the adrenaline is just pumping

I don't think I did anything special I think it came down to the fact that I had the fastest car

and I was able to get in front of him right in right place right time kind of thing

Sam is back at school at Minnesota State Community College and more head Minnesota where he's

studying auto mechanics I mean so there's you know there's the the obvious right like a life was saved

this is a really feel good story but there's a couple things a studying auto mechanics to always

have the fastest car always have the fastest car that's the lesson that's one of the lessons here

that's one of them have a muscle car I think yeah it pays it pays in we there is no playbook

for this no there is no police officer in our country in the world that is taught and trained

what to do necessarily in this exact situation but man do they adapt man are they creative

with the weed in two things we don't give them enough credit for when it comes to our officers

out there and and note to Zach too great job by him and good yeah listening and actually not

freaking out I'm sorry Zach was the trooper yeah but but the kid the kid doing this yeah Sam

Sam that is the kid and shut up to him too and well done and very happy that everybody was okay

but I'm sorry the the the ending on the any studying audio mechanics that that's just that's

a that's a good story right there that's good and a big tip of the head to not only those

officers but certainly our our local officers out there wherever you were listening stay safe

another one yeah right we I feel like all of these almost all of these today have been

in and out drive-throughs always have theme park level lines which makes this a bit more interesting

two guys were at an in and out in California when another car zipped in and cut in front of them

in line the footage of what what happened next is going viral because of how they handled it

they waited until the car that cut cut them off got up to the drive-through window then one of

them walked up and told the cashier they wanted to pay for all the cars behind them in line

so the line cutter was the only one who didn't get in on it they were they were in a tricked

out Mercedes and may not need the money anyway or needed the lunch bought for them or whatever

but still you don't know still the karma hits it's not clear how many cars they paid for but it

sounds like they spent hundreds on this on the larger point was their random act of kindness

doubled as sweet revenge in the video comments the guy said paying for people at drive-throughs

is something he does a lot the difference this time was he and his friend made sure that the

line cutter saw them do it I mean is it really that he writes story I think that's awesome yeah

actually it's a pretty cool story actually it's a pretty cool story they noticed he parked outside

to eat so they took a step further and parked right next to him but he immediately backed out and

took off did not make eye contact any of the time either I'm sure I'm sure of that part

it's hilarious that is hilarious well played well played you know honestly they could have

got out of their car walked up there and said you know this person cut in line but it's probably

a teenage kid taking the order you know what I mean like it's a weird what are they going to say

sorry we're not taking your like it's the weird yeah that was probably the best thing that they could

have done this is and I've actually joked about this a little bit before this is such a California

road rage story this is how they handle road rage in California there's no actual like interacting

with people it's just doing something that you hope you see they see you do oh sure they heard

it because they and their window down they were ready to order so yeah they got the message that's

hilarious well done by them that is a great story I want to get into some other good stories and

it's a great time great event be sure to check that out everybody support those that support

this community and that's our Elk Slodge there's gonna be like five hundred people waiting outside

for bingo to start at five o'clock Terry I wanted to wrap up talking a little bit of united way

with everybody because you guys are in campaign season it is go time yeah so we are raising funds

right now for all of the programs that united waste supports and provides in the community so

raising dollars this fall to support programs for 2025 which is not that far away you know we want

to think that it is but it's really coming up quickly so raising funds now to support programs

that are supporting those in our community who have the greatest needs and we encourage you to be

part of that you can make a donation by visiting our office at three fifty one oak street here in

Wisconsin Rapids you can make a donation online or you can also give you know possibly through

payroll deduction at your workplace which makes it makes it nice and easy and just as a you know

as an example somebody who's not a donor like if you were like oh yeah you know maybe I'd be

interested in or I could do that by donating a dollar a week so fifty two dollars you qualify

for our sweepstakes which is is fun you know you could maybe win a prize that's pretty cool but

but as little as two dollars a week just to give a little perspective that would provide weekend

backpack food to a family for the entire school year so you know if you think about that and

that's purely you know by programs buying in bulk and good planning and all of those kinds of

things but but the reality is is that you know any donation makes a huge difference and so by

investing whatever is a meaningful gift for you back into your community you can definitely

have an impact through United Way and so I encourage you to jump on board with us and if you've

the United Way thank you I got a good one to wrap up on a police dog in India and Indiana named

Apache got a full retirement ceremony after eight years on the force and he really deserved it

in 2017 he stepped in in front of his handler and took a bullet for him wow I he recut and he

never stopped bragging about it by the way either right that dog would show everybody that's

gonna see where I got it but um he recovered and was back at work three weeks later I've talked

about that too about your over the course of his career he also helped seize more than 950 pounds

of narcotics 167 guns and 1.6 million of drug money it took down 84 bad guys I mean he deserves

a nice retirement get him some good treats yeah yeah it's a good one it's a good boy yeah it's a good

one the fancy ones yeah yeah talking to yeah the upper I go in the high shelf yeah they go get those

good ones for him that's a good dog right and the silly past repeated dog bed right I mean like like

like the oh yeah they're silly brand dog that's right but I mean yeah I'm thinking that he you

know deserves a nice bed go all out go all out for that dog uh and and and and thank you to all

the dogs out there all the surface dogs out there we appreciate them uh I do want to remind
