Well, this week I want to go back to tick.
All right.
If you pull tick up, I'll let you announce it.
How many days has tick been there?
Tick, let's see, I just had it up, because I actually was looking at it.
I feel like I'm not usually on on Thursdays, and there was a time, a while ago, that you
were on, and he was featured, so he's been around, oh, she's, sorry, she's been around
a while.
Yeah.
Tick has been there for 449 days.
Oh my goodness.
That's a long time.

And that's insane to me.
I'll be honest.
That's insane.
For one, this is a beautiful dog that, that, that, that, that, that, a brindle coat, those
are always popular, she is a, a beautiful, massive mix of four years old.
Just a, a very sweet dog to, I believe I've met tick, I guess.
I'm a really wonderful dog.
Yeah.
She's a good, she walks pretty nice.
I, I like that dog a lot, but I'm, you know, I'm getting so used to her, yeah.
Seeing her out there all the time, and I, I don't know why she's free.
Also she's been vinegared yeah.
So if you don't have to pay, so does she need to be a single dog home?
Does she do well with other dogs or does she need to be by herself?
Um, just curious.
That's the beautiful one.
I think it depends on, on, on the other dog.
Yes, that's why we, it's exactly what it's saying here.
Okay.
Yeah.
The way we do things is have a meet and greet first with whoever wants to adopt and see
if they are compatible.
Yeah.
Then if they have other dogs or cat, then we haven't bring them out.
Do some intros.
Yeah.
Cool.
Because you never know.
And in the shelter setting, they react different than you, they do when you actually get
them in the home.
Even when we take them out and walk them, they're totally different than when they were
in the kind of.
They're actually in the kennel.
Yeah.
Yes.
Because some of them are very, they get a lot of anxiety.
There's some of kennel aggression, some of food aggression.
So you get, you know, it's all individual.
This is why it's great to keep in mind that with you out there, if you are on the fence
or if you're, you know, unsure about bringing in a pet to your home or anything, you
can have comfort in.
Well, the United, the South of County is going to make sure that it works.
You guys do meat and greets.
You do, you know, at home, check in with, you know, all these things that can make the,
the person, the new owner of this animal feel, make them, feel as comfortable as possible
along with the animal feeling comfortable as possible and finding the right match for
both.
And it's, it's really one of those things too that I don't think many people do it better
than our, our local humane society when it comes to making sure that that match is
good for both parties.
And everybody's comfortable when you guys are leaving and leaving the new happy friends
together and everything.
Yes.
And they have an opportunity if it doesn't work out that we will, you know, they can
return and get their money back.
So it's, you know, yeah, you never can tell until you actually get there.
Sure.
And I mean, sometimes it can all look nice when you're at the, you made sight of, yeah,
make them out, go in the grass, take a walk, but then they get home, they get in.
Maybe they don't like that kind of culture, you know, yeah, it could also be the opposite
though, right?
They're high strung at the kennel and they get at a place where they feel comfortable
and they, you know, their demeanor changes in a good way.
So yeah, there's, it's awesome that you have the opportunity to bring the pet home, try
it out.
You know, everybody makes a really good effort.
And if it absolutely doesn't work, then we come back otherwise we try harder and keep
that at home.
We talk to families over the years and when it comes to animals and bringing in an animal
to the home so many times there's families out there to think, well, I've got so much
on my plate and I don't know about bringing a puppy in.
Well, it doesn't have to be a puppy.
You can bring in a four-year-old dog or three four-year-old dog that is just like ready
made, like they are just, they're going to come into your home and they are just ready
to be a part of the family.
They are trained.
They have their chips.
They have all these different things.
Check, check, check.
All they're waiting for is a home and maybe, you know, some treats.
Just a little bit.
Just a little bit.
Maybe treats.
Yeah.
Definitely treats.
But whether it is tick or any of these other fantastic animals over there, age doesn't
matter.
They are all just waiting for that home and an animal like this is, I think you can speak
to this.
I think you may be able to speak to this, Terry.
Just knowing shelter animals so much.
Well, we put a lot of our own thinking in the way we think and feel on animals.
They don't think and feel the way we do.
There are some similarities.
There are some parallels and an animal knows after it's been somewhere for a while and
if it's its home or not and the idea of bringing this animal into your home, they know
the difference and they pick up on that.
They are appreciative of that.
They oftentimes are trying to make it work with you, which is incredible to think of.
But that's the empathy of a dog.
I can't speak to cats as much about this, but dogs are not only seen and happen, but
seen the science of it and everything.
This is one of those things where they want to make it work.
So I mean, there's so many incentives to do something like this and especially an animal
like tick that deserves it, you know, I don't say that legally.
They deserve this, any living creature, but especially an animal like this.
I don't want this to sound like these animals don't, they have good lives.
The shelter and as much as you guys need more hands on deck could use some volunteers,
could certainly use some items that we'll touch on here.
We have a great shelter and our shelter workers do a great job.
I think so.
They have a good life.
They could have a better life.
They could have a great life.
They could have the life they deserve getting a chance to have one on one time with a family.
There's only so much, you can have the greatest shelter workers of all time and there's only
so much they can do.
There's only so many hours in the day that they are there.
The animals we get, we don't know if it's a stray and nobody claims that it's not
chipped, it was just sitting in the woods, sitting out in the road, whatever.
We don't know what that animal, you know, dog or cat is going to do.
It's, so we have to go a little by little and what you brought up is a good point.
Like the last one I adopted, it's my chief.
He took him months to finally settle in.
He was a churer and he was taken, I mean, he did vacuum cleaner cores, anything.
And it took him a lot of months, really, to get comfortable in his environment because
I didn't know where he was before, what people did to him.
I know we had it at like four names, all different houses.
He was just...
And how's he now?
Yeah, it's just going to happen.
Oh, he's great.
But he still digs.
Yeah.
I don't like the digs.
Still digger.
Work in progress.
Yes.
Yeah, and it's been over a year, two years now.
Yeah.
I, you know, I can relate to that though.
I like to dig from time to time because it's something I just can't help.
Oh, okay.
It's something I can't help.
When it comes to things that you guys could use over there, Tim, what are some of your
in need items right now?
You know what?
I'm actually not sure.
They can go on the website or basically, or more on Facebook and then we have a list
posted there.
So something came up with cat food a while ago and we kind of asked for certain brands.
There are brands we don't, you know, that the cats don't want and I just learned that
some of the medications, some of the cats are on.
The food doesn't react as good with certain medicines.
And our staff knows what's right.
So I don't want to disappoint people that want to give us stuff.
But quality is important.
I mean, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, we need to have stuff that is going to be nourishing and the best for those animals.
And really, I mean, if you get by the 10 cans of the very cheapest or five cans of what
is desired, then let's do the five.
Exactly.
Yes.
Yeah.
And a lot of the animals, like some of the dogs, they have to have a special diet.
You know, they have stomach problems or they have anxiety.
So, you know, I don't want the public to feel like we're not grateful.
We are.
Oh, yeah.
You know, I think so when people are donating, they really, they really want it to be what's
most useful, which is that they don't always know.
So I mean, if it's posted on your, on your Facebook, then, you know, that's where people
should go and check that out because you want it to be stuff that's going to be meaningful
and used.

And, you know, then if another stray comes in or we get a bite quarantine, those, we typically,
you know, we have to take, so cats too.

So news broke just about not even an hour ago, Terry.
Hoba Kota is stepping down from her hosting duties on NBC's Today Show.
After 17 years in the role, 17 years, she's been doing that.
She reflected prompting her talking about her 60th birthday and it kind of came about.
So she has decided to step away from that gig.
So you think she's retiring or moving to something now?
I just didn't know what the announcement looked like.
You know what I mean?
Like moving on to another opportunity or just saying, hey, time for a break.
So I don't what little I know of the hosting gig in that kind of world and everything.
There is not really a 401k or retirement plan for something like that.
So she better be smart and put some of your money away or she's got a side gig, you
know, that's coming up that she'll be doing a podcast or something like that to make
a couple of bucks on the side or whatever to get you to retirement and all that.
But yeah, I don't know if entertainers truly have a really retire.
And that's one of the things that's kind of a loss into shuffle when it comes to athletes
and entertainers and everything.
And I'm not saying this like to create empathy out of anybody.
We understand the jobs that we're taking on.
But that is one of those things of when, you know, when they, when they wonder, why does
that athlete need $100 more or $1000 more?
Like, well, that might be the last paycheck they get.
And that's certainly the last paycheck they know for sure they're going to get.
You can have all the opportunities in the world around the corner, but none of those checks
are cashed yet.
So if you're wondering why the athlete holds out for that couple thousand dollars or why
an actor does or anything like that, that is 99% of the time.
Why?
Great I'm sure comes in.
I'm not saying that they're opposed from this or they're not, you know, completely perfect
human beings that, you know, just are looking for, you know, that or whatever.
But they're, that's a big part of it.
With her retiring from that position, I had not realized how long she had done that.
And I think that that's a credit to her in doing that.
It's not as somebody who does a morning show every day for the last eight, nine years.
I'll tell you, it ain't that easy.
I admire people to do that for a living.
Good on her and enjoy retirement.
Twenty years ago, Ben Stiller starred in Dodgeball.
I love that movie.
I love Dodgeball.
That's so funny.
Now he's got his eyes on today's sport of the moment, Pickleball.
Oh my gosh.
Wouldn't that be hilarious?
Yeah.
Ben is directing a movie called The Dink.
It stars Jack Johnson as a washed up tennis pro who becomes a pickleball player to save
a club in crisis.
Okay.
I'm going to watch this.
It sounds like the, the basically the same plot, but it's, I know, but it's funny.
Oh, I'm definitely just because of just the popularity of Pickleball and every, like,
it's the timing is perfect.
Mary Steenberg and Ed Harris will be in this one two great actors.
And if that's not enough, Andy Roddick, fantastic tennis player is also going to be in it.
If that is even a close to anything what Dodgeball is, it'll be a great.
It'll be a good one.

I love it.

It's good to see him working again too.
He's one of our better comedic directors and actors and everything.
I like seeing him out there.

So that's going to be, I also like Ed Harris.

Terry, this one came up over, this is actually something I've been doing a little bit more
more as we go forward here, where I am one of my favorite things and I think a lot of
people out there in TV is the crossover episode, you know, where where this episode is really
popular and we have a crossover with this episode, but I hate that because I don't watch the
show before my show.
And then they're crossing over and then I have to watch this show because it is one of
the few black and white situations where either on Terry's or my end on this, you're
so right about that though, because I know my mother is like that.
My mother hates crossover episodes because of that very reason.
So I'm a big fan of this though.
And one of the things I'm doing a little bit more and more as we go along is combining
our sunrise show and having crossovers to this show.
I just find it fun.
The audience has been enjoying it.
So we have a lot of crossover with that where people that listen to the sunrise show
from 7 a.m.
I want to 5 5 come over here from 8 to 10 to listen to us and we really appreciate that.
You guys are the, when I say best listeners and radio, I mean it.
Like that's dedication, that's pretty darn cool that you guys do that.
I want to reward that and kind of have these stories where sometimes we'll talk about
it a little bit over there and then kind of finish it up over here.
And I have one of those stories right now and it is something that we've been kind of
touching on here at the station, Melissa and I, Seth and I have gotten into this topic
of the Mount Rushmore of certain genres of rock or certain genres of music.
We had the Mount Rushmore of dad rock, the Mount Rushmore of folk rock, folk music.
And now we have with us the Mount Rushmore of country music.
And as I have two main sources for my, where I go to for country music, I go to Terry and
I go to my daughter Isabelle.
You guys know country music better than I ever will.
And someone asked Miranda Lambert one of my favorite human beings on the planet.
I have realized more and more doing the sunrise show.
I have a thing for Miranda Lambert.
I really do.
Like it's not one of those like kid crushes or weird things or anything like that.
I just had I really do enjoy that woman.
I really do have an admiration for her.
Sorry.
You can fendroll on her.
That's a good choice.
Someone asked Miranda who her Mount Rushmore of country music was.
And she was dumbfounded by this, but immediately responded.
Emelie Harris, George Strait, Merrill Haggard and Willie Nelson.
A nice list, a nice list.
Now she completely right away admitted that that's not going to be everybody's list.
She just happens to really like those are some of her biggest influences.
And for her, that's her personal Mount Rushmore.

And I at the, like, after that, I'm starting to get stuck.

I think Tony Keith is going to show up on some lists, especially in the last year or so.

I think almost every man that loves sports has gotten into these debates of who's on your
Mount Rushmore of this particular basketball, a football or a particular team.
Who's on the Green Bay Packer Mount Rushmore?
Like the guys, we have this debate all the time.
We have these comments.
It's just now getting into the music game.
My, my, my best friend, Chris, I thought broke this down a really good way with sports.
When we were talking about basketball and he said, well, you got to go by the era.
You got to go by decades.
You can't compare Michael Jordan and Wilk Chamberlain.
But what if you have to, but if you, I mean, what if it's for?
It's almost impossible.
It's chiseled in stone.
I mean, we are talking about about Rushmore.
I mean, it can't change that.
When it comes to that, that makes it so much harder because you want to give,
you want to give a tip of the cowboy hat to the, the people that got this started
and people that were round back in the day and everything.
And at the same time, there are so many newer artists that have, like, broken records
or changed the game or expanded country music to a whole new era.
There, there, there's so many different layers to this one.
And that's why I say that there is no wrong answer.
I think that whether it's like your son there and bringing up some younger members
or it's like the list that Miranda came up with here
where it's a little bit of mix of a young and old and everything.
There's no wrong answers to this one.
I think it's pretty fun.
I also think you can get away with just saying the highway men.
Like that's my my Rushmore, the highway men.
And just put all four of those guys up there and you're good, you're covered.
I mean, either way, you can go, you can't go wrong with this one.
Yeah, but if you talk about radio hosts, I mean, obviously at the number one,
it's going to be you James, you know, I mean, that would be the best listeners in radio.
This is why I say this all the time.
I mean, it's going to be hard to chisel that hair and stone.
That is very to just say we don't want to put that on anybody.
You're going to need to do a different hair style.
We're going to put you on a rock.

Because it seems like a lot of people seem to like this time of year.
And I was curious of what the numbers are on that one.
And we go to this survey where they asked America's favorite season and
ranked by by this by far and away fall was number one.

My I don't have a favorite part of fall.
But I have a least favorite that I want to talk about.

The least favorite is the fact that the baseball season is coming to an end.
I hate that.
I hate that completely.

It is exciting the way it wraps up though.
I mean, the playoffs are always exciting.
I've never had a baseball playoffs that weren't exciting in my lifetime.
Yeah, I have a one ticket already for the next two space game.
And I'm going to go to one of the next round also.

Oh, that you got to tell us how that goes.
You got to call back and let us know how that went and enjoy yourself, sir.
That's a great answer.
We're going to get people coming in with what their favorite parts of fall are.
I love the idea that we started this off with something like that.
And that speaks to a lot of our hearts out there.
We're going to miss baseball.
We agree with you, man.

We're talking autumn.
We're talking fall.
What are your favorite parts of it?
According to the survey,
41% of US adults believe pick fall is their favorite time of year.
Summer came in next followed by spring and then winter.
Men were more likely than more men and women.
You unified on this one overwhelmingly chose fall.
But it differed a little bit where more women enjoy or more.
Actually, no, I'm sorry.
Men and women like winter the same.
That one too.
So that one's ranked pretty high when it came to generations.
Gen Z chose fall along with millennials, Gen X baby boomers.
And so it's popular with all of those and popular all around the country.
Northeast Midwest, South and East West all chose fall.
So we found who would make the perfect presidential candidate autumn.
Like everybody agrees autumn.
Like, there we go.
Just have all the yeah, but if it was out there, then no one would agree.
Yeah, I mean, people just disagree to disagree.
You're absolutely right.
So I thought that was fun.
And what are your favorite parts of autumn that this is the other part of the survey?
The top ranking answer for fall lovers gave in response was the fall foliage.
That was the biggest one.
63% of people said that that is their favorite part.
It is beautiful.
Thanksgiving came in at second with 58%.
Interesting.
I thought that was kind of cool.
And I didn't, I honestly didn't think about Thanksgiving as a part of fall.
It is, but I just didn't think about it.
I thought that was kind of cool to see that pop up in there.
Some people said, you know, that they, they also like the weather.
That the temperature is going down for me.
It's definitely the temperature.
I, um, I think that all of these things combined with the kind of,
I don't know, doesn't it seem like our communities get a little bit different too?
You know, they change with the season.
Oh, yeah, I think so.
And there's something about the attitude and the energy that is around this time of year
that I really enjoy.
But James yesterday was three months till Christmas.
Oh, it's anticipation.
That's part of it.
That's part of it.
There is anticipation, maybe even a little bit with a dash of anxiety
about the holiday marathon that we are about to run into.
Um, but I think all these feelings come combined to give you the fall time of year,
that autumn time of year that nothing else can create.
There's nothing like it.
It's such an organic cool kind of feeling that just comes about with these
changing of things and, and, um, and the enjoyment of fall, the enjoyment of autumn.
Uh, but I, there's, uh, the food too.
A lot of people enjoy the food.
Uh, they're the types of food that you tend to have this time of year.
Um, you don't have apple cider that often, you know, uh, in spring.
You know, you don't have it that often, but this time of year is where they break it out.
They crack it out.
Um, there is, of course, football, uh, where, where our, our caller before was bringing up the end of
baseball here.
A lot of people get excited about the beginning of football and some of that.
So there's certainly sports.
And back to school was the least in, uh, uh, favorite thing for most people.
I was literally just going to say kids are back in school.
Routines are back in place.
I don't think that's a bad thing.
No.
And whether they realize it or not, it's not a bad thing for them either.
Uh, you know, they, they may not realize their bodies and their minds like how, like routine,
but they're sure it is good for them and very good for us as adults.
Uh, what about the smells?
The smells of this time of year, there is something about, especially once the leaves start falling.
And you have that kind of like, um, that, that, uh, gray area of where the, the foliage is just hit.
They're almost at peak and some trees are having their leaves fall.
And there's something about the smell of that.
I agree.
That is just great.
Uh, I, I recommend to people that don't do this, uh, or don't do this very often, especially as it gets colder out.
You take less walks, take a walk, take a walk during fall, especially if you can take a walk along a river.
Or like when the leaves are down before they're cleaned up or before they're blown around.
Yeah, the, the smells, the emotions, the feelings that creates nostalgia that brings because I think that that's something that we don't think about very often.
But really hits on us almost every season, especially this time of year is the nostalgia hit that we take.
Um, where this, you, you are a good luck going through any holiday season or any, any, uh, you know, how, uh, weather season and not being hit over the head by nostalgia.
Uh, and that's a wonderful thing too in many ways.
Uh, that gives us back some really fun energy, some fun memories and all that.
The, um, there are people out there that will, this is our, oh, we got to get a road trip in.
I want to get a road trip in and, you know, it's usually not me, you know, going to another state, but something within state.
Oh, I haven't gone and done this this yet or I'm going to get to the cheese factory.
There's a lot of apple orchards around too.
You know, doing, doing that kind of thing as well.
I didn't think of that.
That's great.
Um, hay rides are bigger this time of year and everything.
We're talking holidays.
I appreciate Thanksgiving being mentioned, but I will, I cannot go through the segment and I'll mention Halloween.
Um, my favorite holiday and certainly one of my favorite times of the year.
Uh, that, that's all good.
And in the road trip thing, I, uh, that's something I also encourage people to do.
Get out of, you know, get out of your, um, you regularly routine a little bit and throw a road trip in there.
Don't start hibernating yet.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, they are saying on this, let's pump in spice, uh, apparently that needs to be mentioned.
Oh, people look forward to that.
Um, it does almost feel like that's not a year round thing, but it does feel like you can get pumpkin spice.
Oh, yeah, you probably could, but there's just still something about the, you know, when the temperature changes and the colors are changing and it's associated with that for sure.
Uh, as we wrap it up the segment, uh, reddit.com, uh, put together, had an interesting question.
I thought too in your opinion, what location has the best fall, uh, and they, they mentioned a number of different regions here throughout the, you know, United States.
And obviously focusing a lot on, uh, different parts of the Midwest, but I see some people mentioning, uh, Tucson, Arizona.
And I wouldn't have thought of that, but there's a lot of people mentioning that it's beautiful because it's usually so hot in this time of year.
It's still warm, but, you know, it's, it's not warm for them.
It, you know, what, what is warm for them is not to us, or, you know, what I mean by first.
I mean, of course, I'm quite partial to the Midwest, but, but I will tell you a bucket list thing for me is New England in the fall.
That just popped up on here. Oh, that's crazy. Yeah. New England is, is pretty popular on this one. I'm with you.
Um, the main area in particular, I, I've had a romanticized in my lifetime.
And I just got to go check that out for Mont as another one of those ones that you want to see.
But, uh, the Carolinas, a couple of people have mentioned those, uh, that those can be really beautiful this time of year.
But yes, the Midwest is where we lie. And while I will send a shout out to my roots and, um, you may not believe this, but go ahead and walk through, um, you know,
any, any of the great areas in, in, uh, Chicago or around that area or northern Illinois this time of year and you are going to see some beautiful parts.
Um, there is nothing that compares to Wisconsin, uh, from, I would say from the center of Wisconsin on up this time of year.
Nothing against the southern part of the state. It gets beautiful down there too. There's just not as much, uh, opportunity for beauty.
The more northern you get, the more beautiful it gets in this state this time of year. It's, I, uh, I make, make some enemies here on this one.
But I, I, I feel very confident saying the most beautiful time in Wisconsin is this time of year.
Like I, I think it's hard to argue that this is the best, the most beautiful time. It's a beautiful state.
This is when it's at its peak. This is when it's at its most beautiful. If you're really trying to sell the state of Wisconsin to somebody, invite them over this time of year.
And they ain't going to leave probably. Uh, it's as beautiful in this state this time of year.
Uh, and, uh, encourage you to go check out so many of our great parts of this state.
And then visit some local buy local support local. That includes certainly us here in your neck of the woods in your city.
But it could be in the whole state. Yeah. Uh, just supporting the state and enjoying some things.

Steve is one of the greatest actors I've ever been around. He is incredible and and somebody that at a young age took me under his wing and just love the man appreciate the man.
He has made me a better actor a better director in so many different ways and one of the finest entertainers we have in this state.

And I did want to touch on just a couple of world good stories in the last minute we had here.
There was one I wanted to make sure we got to volunteers in Toronto set up a line of 8,000 concrete dominoes on Sunday as part of an art project to encourage more social interaction.
It winded through different neighborhoods and stretched out a mile and a half.
It's a stunt that's been done before in around 20 other cities around the world.
But Toronto is the first in North America to do it.
And this is just a way a way to get community people like people in other neighborhoods to talk that may not otherwise and everything.
It was a fun idea. I thought that was pretty cool. I'd never heard of that before.
Now the concrete part is what I got stuck on.
Yeah, concrete down. Yeah.
I guess like are they permanent?
Like do they stay standing or do you actually push them over or that's a fair question.
I'm not sure of that sure of that one.
But I did want to mention also that another good story of the day is going on tonight.
