Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off
with us here at WFHR. Got your host, James J. Mala, behind the mic. I am joined by our
head of news, our co-host, Melissa K. Good morning. The best listeners in radio as well.
Thank you so much for joining us. Happy Wednesday. Happy hump day out there, everybody. Let me kick
things off the way we like to talk a little mother nature with our good friend, Brittany Merlot.
Good morning, Brett. Good morning. Welcome to a much more comfortable day today. How are you?
Yes. Oh, it's fabulous. Just taking it in. Just taking it in.
I think it's good. Even with the clouds, I don't care. I just feel so much better.
Yes, even just looking ahead of the day, you feel better. Like, okay, I don't have to deal
with where the air is hot. Where I'm sitting still and sweating. It's not cool. You shouldn't
get sweat. You shouldn't sweat from just breathing. That doesn't seem right. That doesn't.
Right. We're just hanging around the cornfields. You just start sweating. Yes, sweating. Everybody's
sweating. Even the crops. But, you know, what's better today? We could probably set the
AC off, swing those windows open because high temperatures only reaching the mid 70s.
It's going to be mostly cloudy today. Really just a light wind out of the northwest at about
5 to 10 miles per hour. And a few spotty sprinkles are possible. But I think they're going to hold
off further to the east and stay away, to be honest. But if they do happen, it'll be
this afternoon. But otherwise, it's a lot more clouds than we'd want, but comfortable.
Very nice. Well, not bad. Not bad. Good. Good stuff, Brittany. We appreciate you. Thanks
so much for hanging out with us. We will talk with you more tomorrow.
Sounds good. Have a good day. You too. Thanks, Brittany.
Best in the business right there for Brittany Merlot joins us every morning, right here in this
time slot. Listen, I got fun things lined up for you. Everybody, they'll calf a birthday
anniversary club is right around the corner. We're going to get into, are you a wise person?
People worldwide say these key traits would lead to you being a wise person. That one coming up.
We also want to get into what type of friend are you? Type A, B, C, or D. I have not three
red. That's why I have no idea what we're getting into. We'll find out about that one together,
Melissa. A little bit later, after our news break, usually around 8.45, we are joined by our
friend Phil Hartley with our quality, quote, from quality post printing with our wicked awesome
more to Wednesday. We get awesome. We get awesome. It's going to be great. We're looking
forward to talk to a Phil a little bit later. And of course, we got entertainment news to kick
off the nine o'clock hour. The Kelsey's signed a huge deal. Did you know that there was a
height requirement to join KISS? Got a couple of interesting things in there. Yeah, I know. I thought
that was weird too. The nine o'clock hour, also got a couple of other things for you.
Which great musicians aren't actually great singers? Get into that one. And you know, it is Wednesday.
We got four ways to beat your three o'clock PM slump. We used to find that. Keep your notebook
candy because you're going to want to write some things down on that, what I think. But this one,
we're going to get into the other day, Melissa ran out of time. But a new poll asked people,
how polite they are when speaking to AI? Like do you say, please? Or thank you? Do you do these
kind of things around Siri or Alexa or any of that? And I'm so sorry to have said those words,
because now things go off for people with their listening to us on the room. Sorry about that.
I'm not used to those things. So I don't think about it very often, but now I got to think about that.
Well, two and five said that they think it matters. Two and five people because some, yeah,
because someday our past behavior towards AI will be taken into account somehow. So be nice,
or else they might come back and haunt us with other memories of AI. The good news is,
most people are already pretty nice to AI in general, or at least not outright rude.
44% said that they are polite and say things like, please, thank you and hello.
Another 25% said that they are more to the point, but not rude about it.
Only 7% said that they're sometimes mean and do things like be abrupt or swear at their AI.
It also found older people don't feel the need to be as nice as younger people.
56% of Gen Zers are polite to AI compared to 39% of boomers.
Is that of the, well, I don't know, how many are using AI?
I think that's a fair point. I also, I asked one of somebody in that age range about this,
and they told me, why would I worry about that? I'm not going to be here.
To which I said, well, Erica, no, I'm joking. I wouldn't talk to him.
I wouldn't think that I think about this, Melissa, to me that stands out. Regardless of if AI is
going to come and take us down one day or at least, and do all these archaic and things that we
think are the future holds or what have you. I've always felt that being polite or being kind
is just as much about you as it is the other person, that it's just an action. You don't do things,
I said this the other day. I don't say I love you to hear it back. You say things like that,
with meaning and intent, because you want the other person to know this. You don't say please,
hoping they say something back. You don't say thank you, hoping they say you're welcome back.
You know? So in being nice to AI, I don't see any difference. If anything, it's practice.
It's just keeping up with habits. Yeah. I mean, I am just, that's me as a person.
I apologize to walls when I run into them. Same. Same. I'm going to be polite to AI because
that's just how I am. There's no reason not to. I don't know. It's really nice to you when
you're nice to it. So why wouldn't you be? Right. If you want to be treated rudely, I guess,
treat it rudely then. I know some people do it for the reaction. Like what is it going to say
if I swear at it? Because sometimes the response is funny. I've heard people do it.
And it can be clever with its comebacks. But also, I don't know, I just, I don't want to be
talked to that way. So I don't talk that way. I'll be honest right up front here. I have literally
zero fear of AI taking over. I have zero fear of this. I have fears when it comes to AI in the creative
world and some other things about it. Certainly in a year like in a time of year like this with
political ads and things like that, there's certainly concerns. I think we need to have about AI
and need to focus on those as opposed to the whole AI takes over the world and enslaves us
blah, blah, blah thing. That I just don't see that happening outside of movies. That that's about
it. But when it comes to keeping eye in the ball, I think that that's not a bad idea. But as far as
being rude AI or anything, I do think that people look for avenues to vent or to release where there
is no, I don't want to say accountability, but no harm, no foul. You know, if you're yelling at
when you yell at the wall, the wall does it yell back. People look for things like that in life.
And I don't begrudge them that. And sometimes if you're in a frustrating phone call with an AI
and you're just trying to talk to a real person, sometimes we lose our cool a little bit.
I don't feel like you have to fear all of the sudden. Oh, wow. I hope AI doesn't remember that
to come back to us. Well, fortunately for people who get frustrated with that, that type of AI,
at least at this point in time, is only program for certain responses. It's not going to even hear
whatever else you say. That's not one, two, and you have to say it in the right tone,
right, which is part of the frustrating thing. One, one, yeah, yeah, God help you don't get one right.
I also think, I mean, if this is an issue, like you do, you know, quote unquote, say the wrong
things are our rude to AI, can't you just unplug and plug it back in? Can't you just
diamond? It'd be hilarious. I think there is the option to wipe the memory. Yeah, I want that,
I want that, you know, or lowly or orson, like, orson wells like movie or whatever, where AI
takes over and we defeat AI by unplugging and plugging a packet. Like, oh, that was kind of
anti-climatic. I mean, I expected some big boss battle at the end, but we just had to unplug it.
That was it the whole time. Yeah, whatever it takes. How are you to AI? Go ahead and let us know,
call up 715-424-2600. A little bit later, we're going to be talking about friendship. We got
some really good friends. We got the best friends in radio out there, all of our listeners and
we're very fortunate. While we are, I would say one of the more popular stations in Central
Wisconsin and have been for 80 plus years and they're very well liked. We got a great core audience
out there. We say good morning to every one of you wonderful people. We got people around the area,
around the states, you know, that also send us stuff and we hear from, we've mentioned before
about our friends in Sweden and Finland that write us from time to time on their ham radios.
Our friends down in Florida, we say hi to and over in California and all around. We have a
friend of ours in Minnesota that writes us from time to time on these awesome postcards.
Really? We got another one. We got another one. I want to thank Tyler. He wrote his name, Tyler.
I want to thank Tyler, not only for the encouragement in the beginning of his message. I appreciate
that, sir. Thank you very much. But P.S., the morning outtake about the unfortunate Amazon tribe
that last they're away about being introduced to the internet reminds me of a very funny movie called
the gods must be crazy. Makes me laugh every time. Keep on keeping on as they say. And thank you to
Tyler. We always appreciate these messages from you, man. And thank you for the reference because
man, I forgot about that movie. It's a great movie. The 80s had a handful of movies that are
sneaky good or sneaky still fun to watch. That's one of those ones that makes you laugh. It's a good one.
I think it actually is kind of timely, too. It has its place. It's moments in it. But we appreciate
Tyler and appreciate the best friends in radio. All of you out there. Thanks so much, everybody.
Absolutely. A Virginia power outage of 11,700 customers. It happened recently, Melissa.
Did you hear about this one? No, I did not. Utility company official said a power outage
affected about almost 12,000 customers in Virginia and it was caused by a snake. Dominion energy
confirmed that those customers in Newport news, including Christopher Newport University lost
power Saturday night. Crews discovered the cause of the outage was a snake that slithered into a
high-voltage area and came into contact with a transformer. Electricity was restored to all
customers about a half an hour later. The type of snake responsible for the outage was not identified.
Probably couldn't be identified after that. So I saw two different articles on this and one of
them said the snakes, they took a picture of the snake. It's alive. I'm not worried about AI,
Melissa, but this snake, if it could handle 11,000 watts or whatever, 15,000 watts or whatever it was.
Now, super snake. Do we have to worry? Do we have a new villain? Or is it a superhero? I don't know.
Super hero. We're going to figure this out. No more about this. At least the power was only out
for half an hour. That is really awesome. And thank you to all of our utility crews out there
who are working so hard to restore power in these awful, awful temperatures we had the last
couple days. The workers out there, we just appreciate you all so very much. Keep up the great
work. Stay cool out there. And everybody keep an eye out for our construction workers, our
electric, you know, all of our workers out there. Appreciate every one of them. I'm going to get to
a time out and we'll come back after hanging out with our partners a little bit here. We're going
to add the L Cafe birthday and anniversary club. It's Melissa and James taking it through your
morning at WFHR. It's time to do some celebrating with our good friends over at L Cafe and the
birthday and anniversary club. We encourage you to treat yourself, get on over to L Cafe at
221 Market Avenue, beautiful board Edwards. Wish them a great day from all of us. Good things
going on over at L Cafe. Keep in mind this week they're offering free pie or a beverage with a
purchase of $10 or $10 or more. Get on over there and take advantage of that. Stay cool, enjoy
great atmosphere, wonderful food and a unique menu. And the best people you're going to come across
in the L Cafe. Visit them today. Absolutely. Go ahead and head on over there everybody.
And get us those birthdays and anniversaries. We love celebrating with you info at WFHR.com,
james.mail.gov. That's civicmedia.us. You can reach any of our staff with that kind of a
format. Melissa.k at civicmedia.us. That's correct. Just make sure you spell K with an E. Yeah.
And go ahead and direct message us on our Facebook pages, WFHR or WRI. We'll get them that way.
And of course you can always call up. That's right. 715-424-2600 or one button dialing with the
Civic Media app. Call up, join the conversation everybody. We'd love to hear from you. Like these
people here, we've got three names on the list. Melissa, I need a one through three. Let's go with two
today. All right, because it's the qualifier. We get right into celebrating and first up, we wish
a happy birthday to Violet Cooper. Oh, happy birthday, Violet. I always love that name.
Such a great name. That's one of those names. I don't hear very often, but it's a good one. Enjoy your
day, Violet. Happy birthday, Violet. We wish happy birthday to Laurie Fleishman.
Happy birthday, Laurie. Enjoy your day, Laurie. Hope it's a good one for you. I think every Laurie
that I've known is an awesome person. Same. Yes, yes. That's a good name. That's a good, you're
right about that too. Yeah, that's a good one. Yeah, I'm thinking about it. Yes, you're right.
Good call. And we wish a happy birthday to Kevin Peters. Happy birthday, Kevin. He is our
qualifier. Kev's our qualifier. And he's got a great name. He's got a good one. Kevin,
enjoy your day. It's just like my Kevin the cat. It's a good name. It's a good name. It is a good
name. We wish you a great day, Kevin and Joy, you're our qualifier for today. Congratulations.
We take a look at our celebrity list here. And I did not get to pre-read it this morning,
Melissa. I did not look ahead here. Florence Welch is 38 lead singer of Florence and the machine.
I like a lot of people out there really fell for that song. Dog days are over. I really like it.
And I enjoyed it. And I didn't think much of it. It's a new, you know, I didn't have a time to dive
into her or her band or anything like that. And shortly after that song came out, they were on
SNL and sent it live. And that's often when I get to see a lot of live acts because I watch
that live religiously. Whether it's good or not or whatever anybody says, I continue to keep
watching. One of the things that stands out to me is when they bring acts on. And can you nail it
on that stage? Right. Yeah, because it's live. It's one of the few opportunities that exist in
pop culture still to this day where it's a Saturday night. There's probably nothing else on. And
if people are watching TV, this is what they're watching. And not just here in America, but around
the world. And even if they're not watching, well, it's going to go viral. It'll be on YouTube.
It'll be all these things. You really have to nail that moment if you're a musician.
And I go up there and she goes up there and she's just kind of quiet and goes up to the mic
and starts singing like a like a bain a banshee angel, like just incredible voice. Just one of
the most unique, cool voices. I've heard in the last 30 years, probably just an incredible singer.
She is, I think she's almost more powerful live. Her voice and everything. She has got
such a beautiful commanding voice. She's a good singer. She's a great songwriter. Happy
38th birthday to Florence of Florence and the machine. A couple of other ladies celebrating
birthdays today. Singers, I should say celebrating birthdays today. We celebrated these over on
the sunrise show. Leon Rhymes is 42 today. Wow. I love her voice. She was eight when she won
Ed McMahon star search and 13 when blue came out. And I asked the listeners what Leon Rhymes
song that went to here and the one to hear blue today. And I played it. I played it about a
month or two ago over there. And that song just hits every single time. Man, it's just such a
hauntingly beautiful song. And you hear her singing and like, well, if you didn't know any better,
this person has been, this is an old soul. This person has been through some things.
He realized she's 13. It's 13 singing the blues, but the most of us, Cadillac, it's an incredible
artist. Well, in the song, how do I live that was in Conair and they used the Chennai Twain version
singing that song? They should have, they should have used Leon's words. The Faith Hill version,
I think. I think it was whatever other singer that they used should have used Leon.
Understandable. Chennai is nice. Chennai's birthday is today. So that's coming. Yeah, that's why
you really got that. I get it. I get it. Yeah. And I agree with you. I agree with you about that,
by the way. Jack Black 55 for one of the more funny men in funny actors out there.
Yeah. If I could have dinner with one celebrity, it's totally Jack Black. Oh, great. That would be
a great choice. That would be a great choice. I feel like you wouldn't have to put on airs
around Jack Black. Like you could eat whatever you want. You want ribs. Go ahead and get ribs.
You want to be messy. Go ahead. You could just be yourself around Jack Black. That's a great
choice. Fantastic actor. We really got his start with a Bob, Mr. Show with Bob and Dave,
and also some working with Kevin Smith early on in this career. And you work with those groups of
people. You're going to probably turn out all right. It's, I think it's been cool to see Jack Black
get like a lot of, you know, like Kung Fu Panda and Jumanji and some of these bigger roles.
School of rock. It's a classic. It's a, that is a, that is a modern comedy classic.
It's a great movie. But I love his character in Jumanji.
My dad loves those movies and his, I think Jack Black's his favorite party laughs every time he's
on there. And not for nothing, but also the lead singer and songwriter for Tenacious D. Fantastic
Band. He's an incredible singer. He's an incredible singer. Like he's, if he had gone on to just
be a musician, I could see him being just as popular. Let's see. Billy Boyd is 56,
Pippin and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Great actor. And then Chennai Twain, 59 today for one
of the biggest country superstars of all time still has the biggest selling albums of all time
when it comes to country music. Nobody's beating her records. She's still up there.
And I think, I think is she touring right now? Yeah, I know she had a Vegas residency. I don't
know. I think she still does. I don't know 100% if she still does. I know when the Deadpool Wolverine
movie came out, Ryan Reynolds, he's a Canadian. She's a Canadian. He went to go see her. And she,
that don't impress me much during the song. She said, Oh, so what? You're Ryan Reynolds?
That don't impress me. And he flipped out. He flipped out like a little kid about it. Like
yeah, she'll be in Nashville on September 26th, Arizona on November 9th, Canada. Yeah.
Looks like she is. She's still touring. Right on. Good honor. She had a lot of her career taken
from her for a while there. So, you know, more power to her for continuing on and being able to
pick that back up. Yeah. Scott Hamilton is 66, old school Olympic gold medal winning figure skating
hero. Now, I'm not saying Mr. Hamilton's a hero for bringing home the gold, although that is
certainly noteworthy. Mr. Hamilton beat cancer. And that is why I can send her him a hero.
Scott Hamilton very open about his testicular cancer and going through that.
The different ways that he early on really showed an insight into that world. It was very,
I thought just incredibly, and powerful, considering we've seen this guy do some pretty powerful
things on the ice. Well, and he's also recovering from a benign brain tumor. Yeah. Yeah.
He's been really hit through stuff, but what a human being.
David Stern is 67. Fantastic. I'm sorry. Daniel Stern is 67. A great character actor.
City Slickers. He was a Joe Pesci's partner, a bumbling partner in Home Alone.
He was the adult voice of Kevin on the Wonder Years. Oh, really? Yeah. I forget that. I forget that.
Wayne Osmond is 73 of the Osmonds. Let's see here.
Okay. Oh, Roxy Rocker, born in the state of 1929. Helen Willis on the Jefferson's.
Oh, she was so good on the Jefferson's. She is also the mom of, or wait a minute, let me see her.
She is Jenny. She's Lenny Kravitz's mom. She was Lenny Kravitz's mom. I'm sorry.
And she's been in a few movies, Claudine in 1974. Yeah. Yeah. She was so good on the Jefferson's. God,
that was a good show. And another TV star, Nancy Culp, born in 1921, passed away in 1991.
Jane Hathaway on Beverly Hillbillies. She was good on that show. She was very good on that show.
Love the Beverly Hillbillies. Such a good show. She was also in a parent trap. Oh, really? Wow.
Oh, I didn't know that. Almost positive. She was at the, she was at the camp.
She was a camp counselor at parent trap. Very cool. They're original one.
We encourage you to get us more birthdays and anniversaries. Everybody we love
celebrating with you and encourage you to head on over to El Caffe, 221 Market Avenue,
beautiful ported evidence. Remember that they are offering free pie or a beverage with a
purchase of $10 or more. Head on over there. Enjoy. Cool off and enjoy. Special today is a BLT
club Greg Bach. These are non-brows. They're amazing. Go over to El Caffe and have one and you will
have the best experience. I'm a big, big, big fan of Mr. Bach. I appreciate him. I think that
actually I might be an ally on this one because I like a BLT but without the, without the T.
Not a tomato. And I have to have it that way because I can't have tomatoes or I shouldn't have
tomatoes for my stomach but I would love to have a BLT. For those that didn't see the clip,
Greg Bach apparently is a BLT hater. Greg says a lot of things on that show. I can't believe
this is the thing that's gaining traction. He was on the pack great low show and
Pat asked him how he felt about BLTs and he had quite the rant. He really did. That's,
that now you set Greg up like that. He is going to get you a rant. He is going to go.
He's going to go. It's a great show. Shout out to, almost got a little bit of Jack Black in him.
He does. He does. Shout out to Pat and Greg, not only to a great job of what they do but I love
that they bring you on in every once in a while Melissa. That's awesome. We will be back with more
fun. We're going to have our friends from Quality Plus printing joining us with our wicked awesome
word of Wednesday after our news break coming up on the morning show at WFHR 97-55 FM 13-20 AM locally
grown radio. Welcome back everybody. Morning show here at WFHR locally growing radio.
You can lean on Melissa and I go right ahead. We hope you're having a good start to your Wednesday
out there. Happy Humpty everybody. We're going to be joined by our friends from Quality Plus
printing with our wicked awesome word of Wednesday. Just win just moments. We'll be
joined by them a little bit here. While we're waiting Melissa, I thought one of the things that
is fun about Phil joining us is for me, the audience is not going to be surprised by this. I have
shared that I have a minor dyslexia and everything so I've always struggled with spelling and when I
mess up words, when I mispronounce words or something like that, I don't mind being corrected because
I want to learn the right way to say it. And it's sort of my job to speak right. Speak correctly.
So I was looking through words. Every once in a while, I test myself. It will go over words and
words that are not always easy for me to say. Words like Pharaoh. Words like that have peas or
s's or seas and them trying to get better at this. Better with speaking. We can always get
better at these things. Yeah. Well, the English language is hard. It's not like it's straightforward.
And boy, did I find that out this morning when I just threw into the search bar hardest words to
spell. Holy cow. There are some interesting words in here and words that I knew, but I did not
realize how they were spelled. New wands are nauseous. Those words. Miniscule. Miniscule,
I said, M-I-N-U-S-C-U-L-E. Miniscule. Didn't didn't not know that one.
U-L-E. Yeah, I would probably mess that up. Accommodate is apparently one of the hardest
words to spell in English language. Really? Yeah. A-C-C-O-M-O-D-A-T-E.
Did you say two M's? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Nicely. No, I didn't. Oh, you did. I said two C's.
Okay. All right. Well, two C's, but also two M's. A-C-C-O-M-M-O-D-A-T-E.
Oh, D-A-T-E. All right. I missed an M. I am. That's okay. You're gonna, you get a mulligan.
This is a different type of, it's a different spelling bee. Different spelling bee.
We do think so differently here. Yes, we do. It's so true on so many levels. Gobbly
Gook. Gobbly Gook. I love that word. How is that even a word? I mean, it is, but...
No, honestly, I didn't know it was an actual real word. I thought it was just something
that people, you know, just said, like it is a word-the-fact that sounds completely,
like complete Gobbly Gook. But in actually, it is a word that has deep meaning for anyone who
has ever heard. Yeah, I mean, we use it. I just don't know that I've ever written it down.
There are some fun ones out there. I encourage people to test themselves on these.
I mean, especially if you're doing it by yourself, who else is going to know, man?
I mean, come on. Let's go with it. Well, it's hard to test yourself when you're reading the word.
Oh, yes, yes, definitely, definitely. But that's, so I say the way I was doing this,
fuchsia. One of my... Fuchsia? Fuchsia? Yes. I was trying to spell that word and then I looked it up.
I think it's F-U-S-C-S-H-I-A.
Ooh, F-U-C-H-S-I-A. Oh, I got my S in my age switched around.
I, at least you didn't try to put an extra S in there, like I did or whatever I was trying to do
this morning. I don't know what it was. Let's go ahead and figure out how to spell our
wicked, awesome word of Wednesday with our good friends from Quality Plus Printing. Getting
your words out here in Wisconsin Rapids, Phil Hartley joins us every Wednesday right in this time,
slot. Phil, good to have you with us. Hey, great to be here. Thanks, you guys. It's not a great day
in the neighborhood. Oh, it's beautiful. It's, and it's a busy one over there as we can hear already,
Phil. That's great to hear. We love our friends over Quality Plus printing. Do you want to send a
shout out to, of course, WAM Incorporated as well as subsidiary of your guys' group over there, Phil?
You guys are still collecting hometown heroes? Oh, yeah, bring it on. We're gonna name another one
here this week. So, um, they were working on. So yeah, we're still collecting hometown heroes,
if you have someone that you'd like to honor for doing something nice, how big or how small,
I'm bringing on. We've got to get the story out and then get them recognized and you can get
my free t-shirt. And, uh, I bring that up to for the audience to know, it's, it's, it's M-A-L-O-U-F.
I understand it's a hard last name to spell, but it's M-A-L. I'm joking, I'm kidding.
Phil, I love that you guys are doing that. It's a nice fun way, not only of celebrating our
individuals out there in our community, but also really giving a chance to kind of highlight other
things. Last month, you, of course, we're joined by the team from Home Depot. Got to highlight some
of the things that they're doing over there. It's, it's a really cool feature of what you guys do.
And not for another one or mention as well that WAM Incorporated is a great opportunity for
people as well to have some fun. Yeah, I think so. No, we're doing well. We're making some
t-shirts up and trying some different products too, but we're going to be working on some t-shirts
for W-R-R-R-R-I right now as well. And I'm very excited. I mean, I'll run for the, uh,
forgotten, uh, never forgotten flights, uh, honor flights. They're going to be doing a color run
in a, in mid-September and we're going to be working on their t-shirts for them. And so we're,
we're just really excited. I think it's another great way of, uh, in a way of giving back to the
community and, uh, and getting, uh, and helping people get the word out and, and have a little fun
with it. So, uh, WAM is doing really well. It keeps coming. So, bring on the inquiries and
no job too big or small. We've, we've done one shirt for people and done a couple hundred for
people. So, happy to help if we can. And, and not only shirt, but we've done a bunch of, uh,
tote bag and things like that. So, we don't want to try anything. So, bring it on.
I've, uh, been fortunate to know Phil and his wife and, uh, his family for quite some time and, uh,
it's, it's so darn cool to see you guys in this business, in this thing that you are, are really
excelling at and able to give back to the community and work with the community. I know how much that
means to you guys. So, to be able to do both things is such a, a cool, a great opportunity. We are
very, very not only appreciate your fill and appreciate what you guys do, but very happy for
you two, man. It's, it's a cool situation. No, thanks. I appreciate the businesses doing, doing
well. And I mean, we'll, we'll always take more, but very happy with, um, what the community has
supported this business. And, and again, it's, it's a pleasure to try to be involved and get back.
People are hollering at their radios right now. What's the wicked awesome word? What is it?
What is it? We made them wait long enough, Phil. What is our wicked awesome word of Wednesday?
So, you know, I, I was going to use the Miura, but it seems like everybody else is quite
tall with that one. Oh, well done.
You know, yes, it's good of you. It's good of you. I get the feeling using that would put me
in a bunch of lawsuits. So, we're going to go into the word that which I think is one of my
favorite words and something I really like to do actually, meander. Oh, that's a good word.
That is a good one. Oh, meander. That's a good, we don't use that word nearly enough. That's
a good one. Unless we're talking about rivers. Yeah.
But Lee, which is, which is, you know, my life goals are wander aimlessly and, uh,
and just, just take it easy, I guess, huh? But, uh, yeah, do you wander aimlessly or casually
without an urgent destination? We always, we always could use some meandering in our life, I think, huh?
No, we find that idea as I think, you know?
Yeah. That's a good one. Uh, and, and one, and now see, this is a little bit of a different one
Phil, because this is one we're a little more familiar with. But we just, uh, it's, it's,
it's like a song that you forget, forget about from high school that you love. You know,
it comes down the radio and I'm like, oh, I love that song. I forgot all about that song.
That's a good, it's kind of the word of this. That's a great word. Yeah. No, I'm with you there. It's
like, don't do me like that by Tom Petty. Yes. Yeah. It's like, but yeah, meander, just, uh,
wander, wander around and, and not have to be in a hurry. It's just sounds like a good deal to me.
I'm, I'm pretty much more of that. We know that you guys that don't have a chance to meander too much
over there, quality plus as we're wrapping up Phil. What kind of projects you guys up to over there?
Yeah, I hate my paintings of invitation to our Alexander House. They get a new art show coming up
on Port Edward. So, um, we always print their invitations, but they're, they're very creative. So it's
fun to do. Uh, key savings bank. We're actually printing some Halloween stuff today.
Party key savings and they're beautiful new building. They're building over there.
But, uh, they get a Halloween party that they do for the kids every year and we always
print their invitation. And the, and the stuffers like, don't, you know, they put them into their,
uh, when people bring into pauses or get going to get money, they, you know, they, they give them a
slipable to Halloween party. So it's just another marketing idea, right? It's smart when you use
if you have a drive-through window, right? And, uh, yeah. Uh, our friends at our flower,
sent over small orders for, we had to watch the safety tags, but I'm in safety, uh,
information. So we're always happy to work with them. They're a great local company. And then
they're one of our better customers. So yeah, keep it up to often. Very cool. That's awesome.
Yeah. And really good to hear, Phil. Thanks so much for joining us. Looking forward to talking

Happy hump day. We got four ways to beat the three o'clock slump for you. That's coming up a little
bit later. Tips and tricks. Yeah. But not for nothing. Let's get into the origin of not for nothing.
If I'm going to keep saying that darn phrase every five minutes, let's at least figure out where
the idiom comes from. Why are you saying it? I mean, I don't know why that where that came from.
I honestly don't know why, but it's like a, so again, look behind the curtain. One of the things
that can happen in radio, especially in talk radio, is we get into habits and we get into comforts.
You hear me do this all the time when I'm talking about a website and you know, or something,
phrases that are almost like catch phrases that they're familiar for us. Our brain doesn't have to
work as hard. I can think about something else while my mouth is doing this. It's something that
you have to learn to do in radio when you're, especially when you're your own producers and stuff.
Because you have to multitask so much. You got so much going on. And it's something that you have
to be aware of because you can get into really bad habits doing it. One of the things that
happens a lot to people in radio is saying, you know, 105.5, you don't have to say the point,
just say 105.5. But if you get in the habit of saying the point, you have a hard time breaking it.
And I am dealing with that with the not-for-nothing thing right now. Well, that idiom, not-for-nothing,
means that, of course, something is about to be said or done for a reason or purpose or,
but not in vain. It comes from the, where did that go? Okay. Okay, here it is. It goes back
to at least Shakespeare time and maybe even way further. Not-for-nothing is a double negative
that makes a positive for something or another. But it is first noted in Shakespeare.
Doubles make it as there's so much fun. They kind of are. But they kind of are. Yeah,
if you just loosen up a little bit, they kind of are. So let's talk friendship. A TikToker in
North Carolina named Diana May blew up online for a video showing what all her type B friends
are like. It's loosely based off personality types. You probably know type A and type B.
Some psychologists think that there are type C and type D personalities as well.
Hmm. Type A. Type A's are high achievers who like being in charge. Type B's are more chill.
Type C's are like type A's but hide their emotions more. And type D's are more irritable.
The Daria type is what they call them. I don't- I don't get the reverts, but- I don't know what that
means. Yeah, I don't either. Diana's friend categories are similar but different and each one
has its own set of quirks. So let's figure out what type of friend we are. Type A friend.
The overly responsible one. You plan and organize everything, have a sense of urgency,
and make sure things like vacations don't fall apart. Okay. Type B. You'd give someone the shirt
off your back, but you need help too. You're forgetful, leave stuff behind, and your phone is always
dead. Type C friend. You're organized like type A but more neurotic. More likely to bow out of things
other than people- other people want to do, and you love long naps. That's me. By the way,
that's one of my favorite laughs of yours. That laugh right there. That's a good one. Type D friend.
You're annoyed a lot. Prone to confrontation, have a twisted sense of humor, and you might be into
weird stuff like- okay, they say crystals in astrology. I don't think that's weird stuff. I think
that's just things that people are into. I think if you're going to talk about weird stuff,
it's got to be really, really out there for it to be written. I'm not even talking like about
taxidermy or something like that. That's just people do that. People find that as a hobby. That's
not weird. If you go around- I find it funny that that's included as weird stuff with someone who
is annoyed a lot. I think that's how that started. People that I know that are into crystals
in astrology are the most laid back chill people there are. There's some- no granted. There are
layers in gray area to all of us so I can see how the list could have that. But if you're going to
make a list like this, it does feel a little- like you're kind of trying to cover your bases here
a little bit. It does feel a little bit like astrology a little bit or like not astrology,
like a horoscope. Yeah, horoscope. Yeah, it sounds a little bit like that. Like you just
got to cover something good might happen in the next couple days, possibly.
Although tomorrow something bad might happen. It could. Or maybe that good things tomorrow.
You know what's just going to happen there sometime. Just sit back. It'll be happening.
BuzzFeed did a poll where most people said that they're type A. But a lot claim they recognize
their type B after watching the videos. And which one did you say was the Daria type?
Was that B? Yeah, let me see. Yes. Okay, so that is the INTJ introverted intuitive thinking judging.
Yeah, yeah. Okay. Sorry, I wanted to add that in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Diana says that she's definitely type A but most of her friends are type B and they're constantly
stressing her out with their type B nonsense. But that's what friendship is. I mean, I don't know.
I don't want to hang out with me. I like that. My friends we have similarities. We have things
in common. But at the same time, I think we get in Yang each other as friends. You know, we
cover each other's bases again. We kind of I'm good at this and they're good at these things.
I am a little type A. I am a little bit more of a planner and organizer. I do kind of keep
us on point with those things. Our fantasy leagues. I tend to be the commissioner. That kind of
stuff. But I also realize that I can have other traits in me at times. Yeah, I think this kind
is trying to to how to shove everybody into a particular mold that doesn't really fit. There
are so many more personality types than four. Yeah, and I get a little tired of this. I thought
that we we got out of this in the late 90s, at least the 90s, if not the late 90s, where we
weren't going to be categorizing things all the time. We all have to fit into the same mold,
James. Yeah. Otherwise, we can't function as a society. No, society functions well because we have
so many different personality types and so many different types of people that are able to make
our society function, our friendships and our relationships function well. You know, like you
said, it's the Yang and the Yang. We got to help each other and draw on our strengths and let
others shore up our weaknesses. I really do think that that is our superpower as individuals.
That we're all different. We all got differences and we bring different things to the table.
And I think that not a single one of you out there or Melissa and I or anybody else is
categorized. We can be categorized. I mean, I laughingly said C as my personality type because
I am a lot more type A than type B, but also like maps. Right, right. All you heard was maps.
Yes, that's me. Well, I heard was naps. Yeah, that's definitely me. Definitely me. I claim that
one out. But I also like crystals and I'm somewhat interested in astrology. So, you know,
I'm I'm curious to what others everybody else out there thinks about this one. Do you fit in one
of these categories perfectly? Are you a little bit of this? A little bit of that? A little
column A, a little column B, something like that column C column D and looking at this the other
way too. I would never know how to put any of my friends and like I don't have a gigantic list of
friends, but the friends that I got I wouldn't be able to put them in and I think any one of these
categories. Now they they fit in multiple categories, but I don't think I could put any one of my
single my friends in any particular. Oh, they are definitely a type B friend or type C friend.
They have a little bit of more than others, but they're they're a variety. Well, I do think that
these like personality tests have have a place. I took one at when I started working at the school
and we did this as an exercise of just, you know, helping understand how how you work and how
that can work with others. And I think that's a really good application of this type of test
so that you know, okay, well, I'm not great at planning, you know, like like strategic planning.
So I'm going to lean on my coworker over here. Who is good at that to help me shore up that part
of functioning in our office together? So I think it really does have its place. I don't know if
it really has its place as far as friends go. Yeah, yeah, I need to categorize you as an A or a B
so that what I know how to when to text you. Yeah, right, right. I don't I don't feel like that
adds up. Yeah, or or I need I realize that, okay, you're a B. So your phone is always dead.
Right, right, right. I should send a pigeon carrier pigeon. Morse code. Yeah, we text through Morse code.
Melissa and I will be back with another hour of fun right here at 97 5 FM 13 20 AM WF HR. We are
locally grown radio. This is locally grown.
