Got an extra commercial in there, everybody.
Welcome to the show.
Good morning, Wiz Cots, and good morning, world.
Hope you're having a great start to your day out there.
Thanks for joining us here at the morning show on WFHR.
Got my listen, James here with you.
We appreciate you joining us.
Thanks so much.
We got great things coming up for you in a little bit.
We'll get into some Emmy nominations with our entertainment notes.
We'll talk rafters.
We'll talk some local WRCT theater.
All of that coming up.
Well, we like to kick off the 9 o'clock hour with our good friends over at the South
County of Maine Society.
We have Tim with us right now to talk a little bit about this society.
Thanks a lot for being here.
Tim, appreciate the time.
Good morning.
Thank you.
If you wouldn't mind throwing the headphones on Melissa can talk to you too if she has
anything.
Thank you, Tim.
Appreciate that.
Good.
Good.
How are things going over at the shop?
Well, we have a strange one today.
Let's start the pet of the week.
We have a missing.
Our blueie somehow escaped and is on the run.
Bertop, don't you do a sponsorship?
Yes, I was going to let you finish.
It sounded important.
So I wanted to let you get to that and then we are going to go to the sponsor.
Okay.
Well, we'll do the...
Is it blueie report?
Yes.
And he's actually a blueie healer.
He had blue.
He was spotted last.
Somebody saw him around 11th and Baker.
Okay.
But he's been on the loose for a couple of days now.
So he's traveling.
Mm-hmm.
So if anybody sees him you can call our phone number, the 715-697-8131 and report that.
And blueie is a blue tick healer.
Does he respond to blueie?
Doesn't.
I'm not sure.
Okay.
I think he's kind of...
I was kind of anxious and he's a jumper and obviously a runner.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I don't know if this will work on blueie, but I know that a number of shelter dogs that
this happened to me with and my parents' dog for that they had for years.
The only way we could catch Zeppelin was if I was petting another dog and he saw it and
he'd come over and he was jealous.
Sometimes it works.
It sounds silly.
Yeah.
Sometimes it works.
It's certainly, if anything, at least that you see blueie, contact the shelter.
Let them know about it and everything so that they can spread the word.
Lost dogs of Wisconsin is another great organization.
They're just a Facebook group that just share information.
They're not a profit.
They don't do anything to know.
I'm anybody, you know, sponsoring them or anything like that.
But if you see blueie mentioning it to them, they can spread the word on Facebook as
well and get more and more eyeballs looking out for blueie.
We can get them back to the society.
Correct.
That's part of what we had to discuss a little bit later here, but I wanted to just start
off with that one.
Yeah.
And now, Tim, we will thank our great sponsor, Luanne Goats.
Luanne is awesome.
She is your local Wisconsin Ravits Medicare specialist.
She's been doing this for over 27 years and she is dang good at it with her personalized
service and commitment to your health.
You are in safe hands.
Your Medicare piece of mind starts with Luanne Goats, call her now at 715-424-4393.
That's 424-4393 or go to TICinsurance.com, we'll get more of that out there later when
we wrap up the segment.
Tim, what else do you have for us today?
Okay.
Last week when we were talking, I had mentioned about the agreements with stuff which kind
of surprised you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You asked me to bring some facts and stuff to appreciate that.
Kind of inform you and the listener.
I think so.
Some of the rules here.
And there are actually quite a few, you know, that you can't see, there's a lot of them.
Yeah.
We have a list that we keep and it's online for our people because the office staff and
our honkall people need to have all of this information on what to do in every municipality
in the county.
And this is regarding lost dogs.
This is a misplaced dogs.
Or animals.
Animals.
Animals.
Yes.
Because we have had others.
However, the part of this that a lot of people don't understand is the state statutes
governance and it is mostly driven by certain laws and they only cover dogs.
So cats are unfortunately are not included.
So they don't, I'm not saying they don't count, but according to the state, they don't.
It is only dogs.
So there are a number of chapters that have to deal with this.
And chapter 170 is basically the main one that if someone has a lost pet, finds it,
they have to contact their town clerk, village clerk, city clerk, somebody within their
municipality to report it because under chapter 170, a lot of people want to keep the pets
or that they find.
Well, excuse me, you can't because Wisconsin law covers its under chest chapter 170 of
loss, not loss, but the chattels and whatever, if they got some weird terms for it, strays
and loss chattels.
So you can keep it, but then here's where it gets tricky.
Each municipality can do what they want.
So when you were surprised last week, I told you, yes, there are 10 municipalities within
our area where it is no contract, nothing, no pickup, no drop off, which technically they
should, but they don't.
Yeah, that's something I feel like we need to push our lawmakers on.
Just my opinion, just me talking that for anybody else, just James here talking.
I think that's something that we need to work on.
It's 2024.
This is becoming more and more of an issue.
And if you don't care about animals, if you don't care about this topic, I bet you care
about your taxes.
I bet you care about the economy.
And this bleeds right into that and is a part of it that we can help this, we can help
people like Tim and the gang over South of County Mains Society and the local community
societies.
We help them.
We are helping ourselves.
We are helping our community.
This is lower taxes.
This is lower.
This in that.
I'm not going to keep going down this rabbit hole here, but this is an important one.
And maybe it isn't number one on the bulletin board, but it's up there.
It's in the top 10.
It's in the top five.
This is something that we should be asking our lawmakers to address.
Yes.
It's a tough subject to be honest because people get mad at Tim and Society, which, okay,
we understand, but this is nothing to do with us in a way.
The shelter is a shelter.
That's all it is is we're the holding facility.
We don't issue tickets.
We don't do any of these things.
All we do is make arrangements when we can to bring in the animals, like these places
that have no contract.
If somebody calls them at jurisdiction, there's what do you do?
What do you tell the citizen?
Yeah.
That's the hard part.
Right.
And they get mad at us.
Yeah.
Which you guys get enough on your plate.
This is where this is why we have a government.
This is why we have, you know, municipalities passing laws and doing their job is to take
things off of citizens plates that shouldn't be on there.
You guys shouldn't be in this position.
It's something that should have been taken care of.
And that's part of the reason why we need these things and we need to push our municipalities
to do this, to cover these subjects.
There is a lot of gray area in life and there's a lot more of it coming.
The more we can have some structure and some actual direction, the better we all are.
Yeah.
Appreciate that.
We're on Tim.
Nice homework about you, Red based.
Well, and then we have to keep this because one of the first things we do is when someone
calls, we, there is a website we have that lists the county.
And puts the address in.
So we have to determine because the law says where the animal is found, not where it is
owned.
That's key.
It is key.
So, you know, animals are going to roam around.
So you could be living in, let's say, Bearing as your animal could be in Grand Rapids.
Yeah.
Well, and then they're like, well, no, you've got to call Bearing.
Well, no, because the dog, if it's, that's physically in Grand Rapids.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's, it's this gray area that I don't, I'm not, I understand that this is something that
might not have been number one of the docket or it may be something that, whoa, I didn't
even know this was a problem.
Okay.
But now you do.
Now we do know.
Let's do something about it, you know.
The past is the past.
I'm talking about right now and tomorrow and, and that's where we can do something about
this.
So this, talking about this, I appreciate it.
Hopefully we're spreading information and more people will know about it and care about
this subject.
Appreciate that Tim.
I think it's even worse if it's in the county line.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, then it gets even muddier.
It's so, and we can talk for an hour or two on this one, but I do appreciate you bringing
that to the fold.
Thank you, sir.
We'll come back next week, probably, and again, I can get a little more in depth.
There's a lot, a lot, this only covers our, what is called, strays, but it's really
a dog at large.
So now I'm going, I think this is going to be an ongoing conversation for us.
Yeah.
And I look forward to it.
Thank you.
Did, was Bluey our pet of the week, and he took off or what, what do we have a, an
other pet of the week?
Well, yeah, he's a pet of the week.
No, that's our pet of the week.
That's our pet of the week.
All right.
We'd like Bluey back.
Yeah.
So we can end out.
And you said that Bluey, who is a blue tequila, was last seen around 11th and Baker?
Yes.
Okay.
And that was, I believe on Tuesday evening.
Okay.
And if you do see Bluey again, I do encourage you, the lost dogs of Wisconsin, just to keep
that in your back pocket, everybody.
If you do have a missing animal or something like that, there really are a great organization
to and just great work.
Otherwise, please contact the shelter, contact the remains of society.
You can do that by calling them at 715-423-0505, or email them swchs at swchs.com.
That is, of course, their website as well.
You can go to to find out not only about Bluey, but all these amazing animals over there.
Visit them.
Call ahead and visit them.
Drop off supplies.
You can always use it.
It's kitten season always.
It is.
It is.
Yeah.
There's always animal needs out there.
Food or litter or something you can drop off.
It is always greatly appreciated in a great investment in your community.
Their location, 3621-64th Street, North and Wisconsin Rapids.
Be sure to follow them on social media as well.
It is a great way to keep up the data on what the human society is up to, and to see some
of these amazing animals, having them pop up in your timeline or having the human society
just pop up in your timeline is oftentimes one of the big smiles that you get throughout
the day.
We appreciate you, Tim.
Thanks so much for the time.
Thank you.
Thanks for having us.

and helping our human society.
We'll catch up next week, Tim.
Thanks for the time.
You bet.
Thank you.
We'll have more for you coming up right here on WFHR, where we are locally grown radio.
Welcome back, everybody.
Morning show here at WFHR, locally grown radio.
Melissa and James hanging out with you.
We hope you're having a good one out there, everybody.
Before we dive into entertainment, we have to extend our pet of the week just for a moment,
Melissa, because I am stuck.
Uh-oh.
I am first off, I've been in love with this dog, Coop, for a while.
I just found out Coop got adopted, hopefully, fingers crossed.
Congratulations to Coop in his family.
But there are so many.
There's Freddie Mercury, Melissa, this beautiful cat named Freddie Mercury.
Just staring at it, I can't help it.
There's Gomez, who has looked like really big ears on Gomez.
You got to check out Gretchen coming soon, July 18th, beautiful little puppy, just a adorable
pup.
How we, how he looks awesome here.
There are some really good ones.
Madonna, Madonna looks like a real stellar one right there.
That's a really good, Mr. Spaghetti.
Yes, Mr. Spaghetti.
There's just so many amazing animals over there, Ru.
And you got, if you get a chance, everybody, especially if you're a cat person, Ruby has
a coat, like I have not seen before.
I have not seen a coat like that on a cat before.
There's just tons of amazing animals just looking for their forever home at the South
of County Main Society, swchs.com, swchs.com, and of course, keep in mind, wherever you're
listening to us, there's probably a Humane Society that could use your love, use your
input, and use, if you have a home that could take an animal, we'd appreciate it.
Absolutely.
Now, okay.
Here we go.
I got to clear my head.
Got to get right.
Focus.
Yes, focus.
Yes.
And you know what, just one more time, because we love our sponsors, shout out to Luanne
Goats.
Appreciate her.
Absolutely.
And thank you for your 20, 70 years of service in the Medicare field, covering this subject
for our listeners and our community.
And of course, for sponsoring the pet of the week, we appreciate that.
Absolutely.
Find out more from Luanne at 715-424-4393-424-4393, or TIC insurance.com.
We're going to mention this as well a couple of times throughout the show today.
We are looking for Bluey.
He got lost.
He's out there.
Last time Bluey was seen, he's a blue tick healer, by the way.
And last time he was seen was on 11th and Baker, here in the Rapids area.
If you find out, see Bluey, please contact the remains of sight.
And there's a picture of him up on the Humane Society website, so you can go see what he
looks like.
Yeah.
Thank you, Melissa.
Thank you.
Good, good point.
Very good point.
SWCHS.com is the website.
Emmy nominations.
Emmy nominations came out.
Yep.
Emmy nominations.
There we go.
Came out yesterday.
And did anybody notice?
No.
Anybody.
Like.
I'm for me.
Sure.
But I do appreciate the feedback, because in part, not just because you're you and you're
friends, but also because you are a news person and you are paying attention to the news,
all news.
And you do a darn good job of it.
So if you didn't, I do think that that is noteworthy.
And I think it's noteworthy that I asked and did my own little personal survey.
And I purposely asked people outside of the entertainment field or people I work with
that don't really care much about this stuff.
And nobody knew the Emmy nominations came out.
It just kind of speaks to, you know, why we're still doing these things and who we're doing
them for.
And I think award shows have their place.
I think that they even mean something when it comes to the SAG awards, when it is peers
giving peers awards.
But otherwise, if it's just a bunch of actors and writers and producers petting themselves
on the back, who's it for, you know, who's really, you know, who's getting into these?
Who's really caring?
Is it the fans?
Because when it comes to like people's choice awards, oh, that's pretty cool.
I think that stuff's awesome.
I think that's actually actual people.
Yeah.
But otherwise, I don't know.
I do think that there are some highlights and some notes to take from this.
The nominations were announced yesterday.
The bear set a record for the most nominations for a comedy series with 23 tying our beating
30 rock, which held the record previously.
One of the all-time greatest shows I think I've ever seen.
In speaking of records, a legend, not only in the entertainment industry, but in the human
industry, the legendary Carol Burnett became the oldest woman to get an acting nomination
for her palm royal performance.
She's 91.
Hmm.
It's a national treasure.
She really is.
And I love when we get to appreciate these people and show we appreciate them before
we lose them.
Not to be, you know, morbid or anything, but it's something that stands out to me.
And we don't get the chance to do very often.
So Carol, and I'm pulling my ear right now, congratulations, Miss Burnett.
I am pulling my ear, tugging my ear for you.
Ryan Gosling got his first Emmy nod for hosting the episode of Senate Live that featured
the now infamous Beavis and Butthead sketch.
And he killed it on that one.
He did really good.
Ryan Gosling, sneaky good at comedy.
Sneaky good at comedy, great comedic delivery.
And yeah, yeah, so the nominated full set of nominations are out.
You can go to Emmys.com to find this.
I'm just going to go over a couple of the big categories, outstanding drama series, The
Crown from Netflix, Fallout from Prime Video, The Guilded Age from HBO Max, The Morning
Show from Apple TV Plus.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith from Prime Video, yes, glad to see that.
Show gun from FX, Slow Horses from Apple TV Plus, very cool to see that sneaky amazing
show.
Gary Oldman stars in that one really cool.
If you like espionage and spy shows, that is your show and it's acted and it's it features
one of the greatest act living actors there is in Gary Oldman and three body three body
problem from Netflix also outstanding, I've heard that that is a good show.
I've heard a lot of people talk about that one too and Netflix put a lot of money and
time into that one and it seems like it paid off.
Well, that's good.
Hopefully they will keep it going then kind of cool to see the Fallout show.
In there as well, I'm a big fan of that show and it's a it's showing it's it's more
of what we're going to see now we were kind of past the superhero thing.
Now we're taking video games and turning them into movies.
The last of us was very successful for HBO and Fallout has been very successful for
Prime Video so you know you're going to be seeing a lot more of this, be on the look
out for Super Mario Brothers, the dark version.
It's based off of the titles because they don't actually know what these shows are about
but their titles lend me to believe that they're apocalyptic in nature.
Yeah.
They are.
Oh great.
So glad that we've entered that as the next team we're going to be watching.
Yeah, but we all need a left outstanding comedy series.
The great Abit Elementary nominated again.
The bear of course mentioned earlier, Kirby or enthusiasm getting one last nod very cool
to see.
Hacks, the wonderful, maybe the greatest comedy I show on anywhere, only murders in the
building was nominated, Palm Royal was nominated, Reservation Dogs was nominated as well,
very cool to see that, not a lot of shows about Native Americans and cool to see that one
getting represented.
And of course the amazing, the wonderful, what we do in the shadows was nominated.
And just quick look at actors, Idris Elba for hijacked, the great Donald Glover for Mr.
Smith, very happy for him, Walton Goggins getting a nod for fallout cool to see that mentioned
before Gary Oldman for slow horses and Dominic West for the crown outstanding lead actress
Jennifer Aniston for the morning show shout out to her pulling for also pulling for
Reese Witherspoon for the morning show Anna Swah for show gun.
Maya Ericsson for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, she I haven't seen her before until that show.
I fell in love with that show, it was fantastic and her performance, I started watching it
because of Donald Glover, I still loved his performance and he's amazing, but she really
blew me away.
That's good.
And again you can find the complete list at mes.com and shout out to all the nominees, congratulations
to all of them, everybody doing a really good work, special shout out to Matt Berry from
what we do in the shadows, Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm, Steve Martin and Martin
Short for their nods as well for only murders in the building and Selena Gomez also getting
nominated along with Maya Rudolph, Krista Wig and Quintina Brunson, a bunch of former SNL
members getting some serious acting nods there, that's pretty cool.
And we've got some local theater going on today, everybody.
That's right, at 11.30, down at lunch by the river, there's the performance of mid-Summerish.
Yeah, yeah.
Our kids from WRCT are putting on a fun show you're going to want to see.
I'm sorry, Mel, I just didn't want to cut you off.
Yeah, I'm very excited about this one.
I'm excited for, not only that these kids get to perform and all that, that's always a
great thing to be able to see, but them getting to perform live outdoors.
Yeah.
There's something.
This is a fun show, it's a Shakespearean based, I mean, I don't remember what the tagline
is, they don't steal anything from Shakespeare.
No, nothing, not no.
Something along those lines.
No, that's good, that's good.
It's a cute show to see outside, for sure.
Yeah.
I, one of the greatest acting experiences I had, I got to do Romeo and Juliet theater Shakespeare
in the park at Hyde Park in Chicago.
And it was incredible because I have never, it's only the, I've only gotten to perform
outside like two or three times in my career.
And it is a different animal.
It's just exciting.
It's different.
There's so much more energy from nature and from the world around you and people that
could just happen to come across your performance that didn't even know you were doing this, along
with the course family and friends and all the wonderful things that can happen from
getting to see live entertainment.
Yes.
And among all this, while you're going to see a really fun show here, you're also good
to get in a chance to invest in your future, everybody, because these are kids and them
seeing you out there and supporting them goes a long ways in building their confidence
in their people skills and so many other things.
Absolutely.
And you get a great lunch while you're there, too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We'll talk tomorrow about lunch by the river in a moment.
But be sure to head on down and lunch by the river, not only support local by local,
but support local arts.
It's a madhouse and they have performance dates as well.
They just announced their cast, too.
Yeah.
You put it over to the WRCT Facebook page and see the full cast for this crazy fun show
that they're going to put together in a crazy short amount of time.
Yeah.
Not for nothing, everybody.
Melissa and I have done many, many shows over the years and it takes us months to get
these characters down to get up.
You usually do it in seven to eight weeks.
Yeah.
The theater is even longer.
But these kids are going to do this in three.
Man, that is impressive.
That is very impressive.
That is very impressive.
It's beyond impressive to me.
A big first of all, congratulations to everybody that got cast.
Well done, everybody.
And get ready for a fun run.
You guys are going to enjoy yourselves.
You got a great director and Stephanie.
Oh, yeah.
Stephanie's a wonderful.
She's awesome.
She knows her stuff and she's going to take good care of you and you are going to have
a great time.
Get your tickets for it's a madhouse premiering August 3rd at seven o'clock and then they'll
have a matinee August 4th at two o'clock and of course catch them at lunch by the river
today.
Get yourself a preview.
Only two chances to see the actual show, so don't wait to get tickets because they will
go fast.
Yeah.
We've talked on touch now before these kids shows the tickets sell quick.
Find out more at wrc theater or wrc theater or we're going to take a news break when we
come back.
I think we need a little bit of a pellet cleanser Melissa.
Let's get into the this three day weekend and 10 ideal was yeah, where to go.
Yeah, we'll talk about that.
When we come back on the morning show at WF HR.
Welcome back to the show everybody, but listen James hanging out with you.
Thanks so much for joining us.
Hope you've been having a great day out there.
Thank you so much for kicking it off with us.
It's so hard to cut her off, but I noticed certain voices.
I have a very difficult time doing that with.
I don't know why.
I don't know what it is.
So listen to it anytime you want.
I mean, you can pull up anytime, but.
So as we're getting through some of the dog days of summer, I thought that it'd be kind
of fun to look at.
Well, you know, you got to, you just happen to have a couple days free or a weekend free
or you're looking ahead here on a Wednesday or Thursday and like, wow, I could actually
do something this weekend if I wanted to, but what can you do?
What is within your reach?
What is within your distance?
If you happen to be in the central Wisconsin area, we have one of the advantages in the state
that I don't think a lot of people do where we are almost an hour, hour and a half away
from almost everything.
Pretty much Wisconsin boasts some of the most breathtaking and natural sceneries in the
American Midwest period, the shorelines along Michigan and Lake Superior, the dense northwoods
wild wilderness area, or even some of our more fun urban areas in Milwaukee and Madison
and over in the Appleton area, even.
Looking for, you know, beautiful countryside, you got America's dairy country right at your
fingertips.
And don't forget the driffless region.
Oh, thank you, Melissa, yes, yes.
So went to worldatlas.com and they have 10 ideal Wisconsin destinations for a three-day
weekend.
Okay.
And we're not going to go through all 10 of these, but I do think it'd be kind of fun
to touch on some of them.
And some that I hadn't thought of, like right away, fish creek, small town charm is in
a rich art scene, the fun outdoor adventures intertwined in this picture x getaway in the
pencil estate park, roughly one million annual visitors flock to this 3,700 acre oasis to
immerse in remarkable adventures from hiking and camping to fishing and sightseeing.
Fish Creek presents a further options for outdoorsy travelers, including sunset beach
park.
Ah, and that's up in Dork Creek.
Yeah.
Dork County.
Dork County, thank you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I marvel at the amount of people I've talked to, including myself, I've spent some
time in Dork County, but there's a lot of people that have not spent that much time up
in that area.
So I think one of the fun things about this exercise, if you will, is the idea that, well, there
are parts of the state that I haven't experienced or I haven't been to, you know, you're asking
yourself, you're looking at your kind of outline here of your weekend or what you're
looking forward to doing or anything.
Well, and I'm looking at the map right now, James, and another reason to visit it.
There's two theaters right close by, Peninsula Players Theater and Northern Sky Theater.
There we go.
Theater.
There's three.
There we go.
There we go.
In recent years, now my family for a long time have spent time summers in Platville, but
that was oftentimes because of the bears.
And they've removed the bears from Platville, everybody.
So the bears now don't do their summer training camp there anymore or anything like that.
So that's one of the things that might interest some packer fans out there.
You don't have to worry about that anymore.
But Platville is home to the University of Wisconsin and not the University, but other parts
of it and welcomes newcomers to enjoy a jampeck weekend getaway.
This town is more than enough attractions to address all tastes and preferences.
The college population is big on the sports and enthusiasts for that for local arts.
There's also the Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium to support your local football team.
And if you prefer historical experiences, visit Mining and Rollo Jamison Museum, which
preserves Platville mining history.
Yes, also enjoy experiences for not only that, but the wilderness area that they have
over there in the back county.
Roundtree branch trail leads into a serene nature space with lush greenery.
And that roundtree branch trail is one of those ones that I'm my bucket list.
Yeah, and they're not that far from the Mississippi.
Big Harbor is also really beautiful.
The tiny door county village offers tranquil natural spaces and exquisite lake views.
It's a beautiful spot.
Ellison Bay, another good one.
The hidden gem of door county, we're just stuck in door county, set amidst beautiful
natural areas, promises a wonderful time in Wisconsin's backcountry.
Fielded from the crowds, Ellison Bay invites tourists to relax and a deep compress in
the quiet atmosphere of Ellison Bluff State natural area.
Precious location to offer sandy beaches, hiking trails, and picnic tables.
That's a pretty beautiful area.
I'm trying to get us out of the door.
Nothing against door county.
I just want to stretch throughout the state here.
Could we also talk about other areas?
Because I mean, if you're going to go to door county, there's so many things to see.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
There's a whole big state over here too.
I was going to, I got a little freight.
I'm going to be honest with everybody.
Look behind the curtain.
I got a little afraid of this next town because I didn't want to mispronounce it.
But I know that we, we have that from time to time, Oscar Liyah or O-O-S-C-E-O-L-A, O-C-L-O-S-E-O-S-C-E-O-L-A.
I don't even know how to say that one.
All right.
It's a whole county.
Hey, we got nothing but Wisconsinites listening out there.
Go ahead and call up and let us know how to say this.
The Oscar Liyah?
Oscar Liyah is what I was going to go with.
But please feel free to call in for 242600.
We like to get these things right.
This beautiful riverfront getaway promises exciting adventures along the calm waters of
St. Croix River.
Sits on the Wisconsin Minnesota border and provides a whole experience of nature-loving vacation
for vacationers.
But taking outdoors, back in the white glen and with cascades falls, it's a beautiful
area.
Some beautiful bluffs over there too.
The waterfalls are just, there's a few of them in Wisconsin, not a ton, but there's
a lot of them and they're, you know, smaller ones, especially, and I think they're beautiful.
Taking you a little southern, a little, a little southern, they also mentioned Cedar's
Berk.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Cedar Berk is a beautiful area.
I've been through there.
I haven't spent a lot of time there.
A popular rural escape from Milwaukee, the small village draws tourists with his historical
heritage and rich cultural vibes.
Cedar's Berk was founded in 1885 in both a colorful past.
Well, preserved in its various different historical markers.
I love taking a roll down memory lane and checking out, you know, different cities and different
towns, especially because you get the history.
New Glarris.
A New Glarris.
New Glarris is like that.
That's another one that they mentioned.
Embrace an unforgettable cultural experience in America's little Switzerland.
A adorable village in Green County is steeped in Swiss heritage and encourages tourists
who experience its exciting culture at the Swiss Historical Village Museum.
Yeah.
That's pretty good.
I love those little villages that play on the history of the immigrants to our area.
We wouldn't have that without, you know, the people who immigrated here.
I love being able to give a nod to that while also really enjoying some modern, you know,
cool times and experiences and everything.
And yes, absolutely.
And one of the last towns that we want to mention here for no other reason, then it's
an amazing town.
And you know me, everybody.
You've been listening to this show for over seven years.
I've been doing this show.
That's the town that I love to mention other than our own, more than any other.
Shuffle again.
Yes.
Shuffle again.
Discover rich arts and immerse yourself in a great outdoors in the bursting bustling community
in Shuffleigan County.
Shuffleigan is a celebrated arts hub in Harbor's world-class art venues like the John
Michael Kohler Arts Center, the multi-use facility hosts beautiful art exhibits currently
right now while staging professional stage performances.
Tourists with young ones can take them to the above and beyond children's museum for
a fun learning opportunity.
The facility delights kids with interactive exhibits and hands-on activities to stimulate
their minds.
That's the best part of a lot of these places that you can visit in Wisconsin.
They're family-friendly.
Yeah.
That's it.
You're a toward families.
That's a great point to mention.
I kind of wanted to encompass that in this and hopefully that comes across, I appreciate
you really bringing it home though because I didn't really mention that enough and I really
wanted to.
Thank you, Melissa.
Mm-hmm.
And I have to go back.
It's Asiola.
Asiola.
It is Asiola.
Okay.
Like, had we not like tried to read it?
Yeah.
You have to set it right.
Yep.
Yep.
100%.
100% Asiola.
And it's one of those things too that I think, so Melissa and I in this industry, we have been
anytime we have missed said any word, let alone a town name, we have been put through
the shredder.
So we're a little hesitant on some of these in a little like a, but we want to be right.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, put me through the shredder.
I'll speak for myself on that.
Put me through the shredder, everybody.
I want to get the, I would rather, I don't mind being wrong if you can help me be right.
And I never mind that, but it is part, just to give a little why we're a little hesitant
sometimes.
I did want to, I did want to mention one last thing about the Shaboygan, the Kohler Andrea
State Park.
It is beautiful over there.
It is a secluded part of Lake Michigan, which you don't always get and say hello to our
friends over in Shaboygan and nothing else just to be able to say Shaboygan and of course,
Shaboygan, I'm looking for that quarter.
I mentioned you guys a lot.
I mentioned you guys a lot.
I think I've heard at least a quarter, maybe 50 cents, maybe, maybe we love our friends
all over the state.
And while you are enjoying the state, keep in mind you are also investing in your state.
You are helping the economic dollar here in this state when you travel and to take in these
places.
And even if you can't necessarily go to something that's an hour away or something like that,
wherever you're living, chances are there are areas or places you haven't checked out
before and there are a great local events going on all summer long.
We have beautiful parts all around us.
Check them out.
Yeah, we're going to tell you about some great events going on in our area coming up here
on the morning show at WFHR, locally grown radio.
Welcome back everybody to the morning show.
We'll listen James here with you to take it to the top of the hour.
We're going to have some fun while we do it too.
Got to then write stories.
Some good stories of the day.
Touch on our schedule as well and some local great events going on.
Earlier I mentioned Subway has a new thing that they're doing.
I wanted to talk about that and lead into kind of like 90s snacks.
I want to take some time with that one.
Let's do that with the James gang as Seth calls it.
On Monday when we have Melissa and Seth with us, we'll get into that one on Monday.
Tomorrow, Terry Johns will be sitting with us CEO of Uri Nightaway of Southwood and
M's Counties.
Terry and I are going to talk a little bit about the history of barns and I think a really
cool one here.
This hitting meaning of the stars on barns and the different things that you see on them.
Yeah, yeah.
Get into that a little bit.
We're looking forward to it.
That'll be tomorrow's show.
We're looking out for that.
But before we get into our schedule and some rafters talk, go to that a write story here.
Many airlines have apps to track your baggage so you can know when they've, you know, when
it's been loaded in that.
It's unclear how this would show up.
A man was settling into his seat as his plane was taking off, a tack was taxing for take
off from an airport in Spain when he looked out the window and saw his luggage just sitting
alone on the tarmac.
Not on the plane.
He was riding on.
He snapped the photo and said, about to take off.
I look out and I see two suitcases lying on the runway.
I tell my aunt, look, they dropped two suitcases and she said they look kind of like yours.
And he had a quote, I can handle this.
There was nothing he could do.
But even more annoying, he said was one of the bags had a five pound block of cheese in
it, which was about was baking in the sun.
Oh, no.
It was frustrating, but the airline did later deliver the bags to the destination and the
guy had a quote against all odds that Jesus fine.
Well, Jesus is pretty resilient.
Yeah, yeah.
Might have been better.
Who knows?
I mean, some to some Jesus, depending on that and everything.
Just the idea of the kind of like, I think it'd be more of a comedic scene if he's taking
off and he looks out, look, they left them back.
Wait, wait, those look familiar.
Wait a minute.
Wait, those are, those are mine.
Don't.
Don't.
Yeah.
That is an interesting one.
All right.
And we got some interesting stuff, of course, going on around here.
First off, before we dive into some local stuff going on in their area, I didn't want to
shout out the local, our Humane Society one more time.
Yeah.
Can I help for Bluey if he can?
Yeah.
Bluey is a blue tick healer that got lost.
He's been missing the last time he was seen was last Tuesday, was on Tuesday, and he was
seen on 11th and Baker right here in Rapids.
If you happen to see Bluey and you want a better description of him, you can go to the South
of County Main Society's website, SWCHS.com.
And reach out to them.
If you do happen to see Bluey, you can give them a call 423-0505 or email them, SWCHS at
SSWCHS.com.
They have a Facebook page.
You can also reach out to them on.
Mm-hmm.
That's right.
Keep an eye out for him.
We want to thank Luanne Goats one more time for sponsoring that segment of shout out to
her.
Reach out to her for all your Medicare needs at 715-424-4393, 424-4393.
For her website, TICinsurance.com.
Yeah.
If you have questions, or you need help, she's your gal.
We got Rafter baseball on the radio dial for you tonight.

Come on, Rafters.
You got this.
It's a special night at the ballpark tonight too.
Midstate Technical College presents White Out Winter.
The Rafters will debut in all white alternate Jersey as they try in White Out Winterfield
against the Woodjocks.
Oh, cool.
Yeah.
I love when teams do this.
It's a big thing in teams that everybody wears white and the stadium and stuff too.
It's kind of fun.
Yeah, so we're white to the game tonight.
Yeah.
Midstate free tuition night too.
Top of third inning.
One lucky midstate student has a chance to win free tuition.
That is so awesome.
I love that they do that.
Yeah.
And they got to Budweiser Special Thursday Thursday over there.
Check out more and get your tickets at Northwoodsleeve.com.
And if you can't make it to Winterfield to make that home field advantage, keep in mind
every hit, every win, every bit of Rafter baseball right here at WFHR right where it belongs.
That's right.
Tune into our station to keep up with the Rafters.
The Rafters will be in Walsa tomorrow 620 start time, which means we got to playmakers.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's going to be a fun one.
Be sure to join us for Playmakers tomorrow from 5 to 6 going to be a fun show.
We also want to encourage you to listen to our line up all day long coming up in just
a little bit.

That's right.

Yeah.
Yeah, you're going to have a fun time with them today.
And a little bit later, you got the Maggie Dawn show from 2 to 4.
Be sure to join us for that.

And then Midday Magazine from 4 to 5, we're in part 1 today.
We're going to welcome in our friend, Jillian Elecna.
She is a with, of course, visit Rome.
Shout out to Nikus of Port Edward State Bank for sponsor in that segment.
And in part 2, Jackie Carantini comes in.
Great.
We're going to bring in a new friend, a new extension employee with her Kazoo Tao.
She will be with us.
Kazoo will be with us as well.
Looking forward to that.
Going to be some great conversations, everybody.
Yeah.
Lots of good information.
Also, want to remind you that it's a madhouse is going to be performing lunch by the
river today.
No, actually, it's midsummerish.
Midsummerish.
I'm sorry.
It's performing at lunch by the river today.
I run burgundy that.
I just looked at my screen and just read what was on my screen.
I apologize.
They'll be performing at 1130 today.
Please stop down and see them.
And I also want to mention that if you need to also eat at culverts today, you should.
Because 10% of all of their proceeds today go to help our family center.
Yeah.
I appreciate that, Melissa.
Thank you for mentioning that.
It's in my notes right here, actually, that was the second thing I was going to bring
up.
The family center is in a, like a lot of our domestic shelters throughout the country,
and I've been just shredded when it comes to the funding that they receive.
It is, I cannot stress this enough, now more than ever, incredibly important, that you
can help out the family center by taking in events or by going to culverts today and
doing something like that.
And there's the fourth annual touch of truck coming up July 27th at Grand Rapids Lines
Club.
I'm going to feature a lot of fun vehicles from 11 to three.
There'll be tractor rides.
You can ride in the water and light bucket.
These games raffle, family friendly evening, and while you come down there and you do this,
you are not only helping the family center, but you are on the right side of history on
this subject.
There is no gray area on this one.
All right.
Going, there is no gray area.
It is a black and white subject.
We encourage you to be on the right side of history with this one.
Help support your family center, like so many of our great local leaders and businesses
do.
That's right.
And you had also the Wisconsin Rapids farmer's market is taking place until today.
So you have lots of opportunities to get some great food and help enrich your community.
Yeah.
Keep in mind, farmer's market goes on every Thursday and Saturday from 8 to 2 at 221st Avenue
South.
Head on over there today.
And if you can't make it today Saturday, they'll have some great stuff for you as well.
That's right.
I wanted to just touch on a couple of world good stories real quick.
Most students at John Hopkins Medical School won't have to worry about tuition thanks to
a $1 billion donation from Mike Bloomberg's charity.
Whoa.
That is pretty cool.
That is a pretty cool thing.
And I take a lot of shots at billionaires.
I want to give credit where it's due when they do do something like this.
Yeah.
That's.
That is cool.
That is.
And that's for which college?
That is for John Hopkins Medical School, one of the greatest medical schools in the
world.
Yeah.
And our doctors and nurses and people in the medical field could definitely use a leg
up when they're trying to go to school because that's a hard time.
Carly Knox works as an intervention specialist at elementary school in Fresno.
He teaches life skills and helps kids work through any issues they're having.
And now he's also a barber.
He went to school for it during the pandemic and recently noticed a student hadn't had
it trim it a while.
So he got permission from the parents and the principal and he started cutting hair along
with this.
It's kind of an interesting combination, but it's pretty cool.
Yeah.
We appreciate you, Melissa.
Thanks for the great work and hanging out with us today.
Yeah.
Have a great day, Jane.
Have a great day, Mel.
And you all out there.
Have a great day.
Be good to each other.
We'll talk to you sooner than later right here at this is locally grown radio WFHR 1320
and W24 ADE Wisconsin Rapids and always streaming on the civic media app.
