Hour 1: Why Caffeinate BBQ?

Mornings with WFHR · Fri Jun 28, 2024

Good morning, Wisconsin.

Good morning, world.

It's a new day.

Thanks for kicking it off with us right here at WFHR, locally grown radio.

Got your host, James J here.

I am joined by our head of news, our co-host, Melissa K.

Good morning.

Our head of production, co-host, Seth Habagger.

Good morning.

And the best listeners in radio.

Thanks for joining us, everybody.

We're going to kick things off the way we like to with our good friend, Brittany Merlot,

talking a little about the nature.

I mean, that is clear blue skies as we've been having, we've been spoiled with the last

couple of days.

But we do have some nights, weather coming up, not only this weekend, but this upcoming

week looks really nice.

Yeah, it's we do, trying to find the positive, our view, I like it.

Yeah, it's where it's always.

Yep, yep.

That's what I am too.

I'm like, how do I make them not hate me as much?

Okay, let's get to the bad news first.

We've got light rain moving through here, obviously this morning, some scatter showers,

possible on an off-draft the afternoon, but I really think mainly dry for a good

chunk of the afternoon, to be honest.

But then after about four o'clock, that's when we're going to see some of the storms pushing

in, some of the heavier rainfall, where we could see up to an inch, and that could cause

some rivers to rise, some flash flooding localized course.

And the only other risk besides that that we're looking at is the fact that we could have

some stronger winds to and some lightning.

So really just some heavy downpours moving through this evening.

Otherwise we are clearing out the positive side is the fact that the sunshine will be beautiful

tomorrow, and picture perfect temperatures as well into the mid to upper 70s.

And if you don't like that, if that's too warm for you, and Sunday is your day, low 70s,

nothing but sunshine, so for this most herbal weekend with no rain in the forecast just

today.

All right.

Not bad.

Not bad.

Well, all right with that.

That's really a nice way to do that.

We'll keep you around, Brady.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

You won't like me so much from the 4th of July.

It's going to get hot and humid and we could have showers and warm chances, but you far out

to really pinpoint when.

Quick while you're ahead.

Quick while you're ahead.

We also know it's not your fault.

Yes, yes.

Nobody.

Don't kill the message.

We've got to make plans.

Yes.

You're right.

You've got to make plans.

We appreciate you.

Have a great weekend.

We'll talk again Monday.

You too.

Have fun.

Best in the business, all right.

Our friend right there.

Pretty Marlowe.

We got the LCAP birthday anniversary club coming up for you in a little bit.

We're going to celebrate not just today, but Saturday and Sunday.

And a little after our news break, we're going to make you a star the day with our friends

from callvers.

Seth, Melissa and I are going to play a famous 80s theme song, 80s TV theme song.

It'll be our last one as we wrap up our 80s walk down memory lane with that and everything.

We're going 90s next, or we're going whatever direction you guys want.

We've been doing the star of the day for a long time.

When I first started doing it, it was quotes from movies, famous quotes from movies.

Frankly, my dear.

I don't give a, and then we moved on to, see what I did there, and then we moved on to

TV theme songs.

We've been doing that for at least three or four years, and I'm pretty sure that every

single TV theme song we have played except for one or two that I purposely not, Morken

Mindy and The Simpsons.

I haven't played either of those.

You'll know it's my last show if I play one of those.

Did you play one of those at the end as near?

So we love your ideas.

And I mean that not just from our audience, but from our team here, if you guys have ideas

of new fun things we can do for star of the day, I know that our friends over callvers

have reached out.

They're very cool with whatever we do as long as it is, of course, family friendly and

everything around callvers.

Right.

So we should do commercials, like old commercials.

Oh, that's fun.

That's fun.

That's fun.

That's what we do.

Those jingles just like get stuck in your head.

You know automatically there's an idea that right there, you know, you play, where's

the beef?

Well, who was that?

We never remember that.

But whatever, what was that advertising?

The company was an athlete.

Now that might not be so easy.

Yeah.

That's pretty good.

Melissa.

That's good.

I'm going to write that one down.

Let me write that one down.

In the nine o'clock hour, we'll start things off with a bit of entertainment, going

to touch on some of a local events going on tonight.

I want to mention about over at Wisconsin's Rapids Community Theatre.

I do want to send a shout out to them right away.

Had a great meeting with Gretchen, the director over there yesterday.

And not only are we coming up with some fun stuff to do and looking forward to having

a WRCT on the airwaves with the TZ even more, but they've got really great things going

on over there that we're just hearing the beginnings of something I was talking with

with Gretchen yesterday.

It's not an easy job being what she's doing and especially being new in the position.

And quite bluntly, being a younger woman in the position.

It cannot be easy sometimes.

What she is doing is taking something that has been great for a long time in this area

and evolving it and helping it be even better and reach out to even more people.

Really appreciate the work she's doing over there.

And I like to remind her and anybody in those kind of positions that that first year is

the hardest.

Always.

Things just by the course of things they always can be, but it gets better.

And it's going to get better thanks to this community and having somebody like her in

that position.

Right.

I'm very excited about the things going on over a community theater and we'll talk about

that a little bit later.

We'll let you know what's new on your small screen and what's new on your music device.

I almost said record player.

Yes.

I'm buying.

Music device.

I didn't know what to say there.

We had listened to music in so many different ways.

I know.

It's the device upon which you play the majority of your music.

Yeah.

You're my phone.

Yeah.

Your phone.

I mean, yeah.

We also got a fun one.

We are going to get into the other day props from classic movies that were thrown in the

trash.

Oh.

Got that coming up.

We'll talk about.

And in the 9 o'clock hour, the 10 most underrated skills that everyone should learn.

Oh, yeah.

Okay.

That's going to be good.

How to fold if it is cheap.

How to pick a lot.

That's a good one.

Melissa.

That one is one tonight.

I mean, I would have said so.

And five dangerous things about summer.

We're going to warn you about those.

Talk about those a little bit and how you can prevent having to deal with them.

All that coming up.

All right.

We got a lot to do.

But I want to start right here with possibly a that ate right story.

We're going to get our that ate right story out of the way.

But oh, this is a case by case thing.

Some people might enjoy this.

Five hour energy just unveiled a new product for summer caffeinated barbecue sauce.

What?

If you've been bored with your barbecue sauce, I guess this is it.

It's not clear if they're planning to sell it, but they're giving away 12 ounce bottles

through their website.

The first drop was yesterday and they sold out, but they're doing more three more on July

2nd, July 9th and July 16th.

So the next three Tuesdays, there's only one flavor, peach mango.

So if you're not fruit forward person, you know, I don't like that or you don't want

to you're dinner to keep you up all night.

This might not be for you.

Yes.

Because this is what we need.

More things with caffeine.

Each serving has 60 milligrams of caffeine or about as much as a week cup of coffee.

An average cup has about 95 and a can of coke has about 34.

Okay.

Hold up though.

How many of us use one serving of barbecue sauce?

Yeah.

That's good point.

Yeah.

Good point.

Come on.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

At least two or three.

At least at least.

Yeah.

They're press release says it's part of their plan to redefine the five hour energy as it

is.

In other words, if you read between the lines, their sales have been down for quite a long

time.

Exactly.

And they're excited to be the first energy brand to offer a caffeinated sauce that helps

you stay focused and keep the party going as you eat your ribs.

So if they finally just give it up and admit it, it's just caffeine.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Remember when all these energy drinks first came out, you know, it's like, oh, we've

got all these vitamins and all the stuff.

Yes.

And then they're like, no, we just.

Complex things that will help you.

We just put a lot of caffeine in it.

Yeah.

I remember they used to do this like they'd have all these horrible things in these products

and then in ginseng.

Yeah.

Like they throw like a dab of ginseng in there.

That was supposed to make everything better.

Healthy.

Like, oh, well, it does have ginseng in it.

Yeah.

I don't know.

What I, okay.

So let's go ahead and ruin this for them.

Where are they going next?

Let's just completely ruin the idea.

So maybe they can't even do it.

Good.

How about they got caffeinated doughnuts now?

They have caffeinated barbecue sauce.

We have all these different things that have caffeine in them.

Caffeine fruit cake.

That people will actually eat it.

That's what I'm thinking.

Maybe they'll start getting eaten and everything.

I don't know.

It's got caffeine in it all either.

Caffeinated pancakes.

Oh, wow.

Breakfast foods.

Breakfast foods.

More caffeine in that way.

Let's just cut out the middleman and go right straight to it.

I don't know.

I don't know what they're doing here.

Well, coffee is a staple in the morning.

So I wonder, maybe we could find a way to combine coffee with a lot of other things.

I mean, there's coffee flavored whatever now.

Yeah.

I don't know if the caffeine is actually in there, but there you go.

There you go.

I suppose there's got to be some then.

I do love coffee flavored things.

I will admit.

I do.

When they're done well.

Oh, thank you, Melissa.

I was so excited.

I got this coffee or mocha ice cream the other day, and I was so excited to try it.

And I tried it and it was like, ah, it didn't even taste like it.

It didn't disappoint again.

Yeah, it was very.

I had like 20 bites, and I'm like, dude, is everybody kept waiting?

Please.

Give me some better.

Give me some coffee taste.

Nothing.

Well, nothing.

Maybe this should be brought up in the next segment, but at alcafe, they have little coffee

candies.

You know, how at the register at a restaurant.

Yeah, yeah.

After something, they have coffee mints, and they actually have coffee in them.

Oh, if you needed another reason to go.

All right.

Exactly.

Yeah, man.

Go for the food.

Leave with the caffeine.

Caffeine.

It's pretty good.

Caffeine to go.

I know a dog that might have had some caffeine to help it out, and we go from that kind

of a story to a good story of the day for you real quick.

A Maryland man's lost dog turned up two years later after somehow ending up 1,000 miles

from home.

Yeah.

Tony Duncan said his dog, Luna, vanished from his mouth of those springs home after chasing

some wild animals into the nearby woods and failing to return.

Duncan said he never gave up hope he would see Luna again, but he was still shocked to

see receive a phone call last week from La Bella Animal Control in Florida.

Animal Control told Duncan a dog had been found wandering in the parking lot of La Bella

Walmart store and was scanned for a microchip, which identified her as the missing Luna.

Ha!

He got into his car immediately the same day and started the 2,000 mile drive to be reunited

with Luna.

Wow.

Wow.

It was a long distance, but it had nothing in comparison to the love that I have from

my dog.

He told them a catchy news.

The emotional reunion was caught on camera.

If you need a good smile for today, go ahead and check that out.

Duncan, I'm happy for him.

That's great.

You got to see Luna.

Luna is really jacked.

Luna is over the moon.

Yeah.

Dad Joe.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I'm here all weekend.

That's good.

No.

Yeah.

Actually, he is.

I mean, that's the, that's an interesting part.

He is actually here all weekend.

Really?

Quite a bit.

Stay tuned for more jokes like that, turn it over to the back.

Nothing but dad Joe.

From Maryland to Florida, Maryland to Florida, just from chasing a couple of squirrels or

something like that.

Wow.

Like, you've got to be embarrassed when you're talking to your fellow dogs in that neighborhood.

Like, wait, where are you been?

Man, I haven't seen you in years.

Where are you been?

At Big Road Trip, man.

That's how you're going to sell it if you're in Florida.

Oh, I decided to get, you know, man, I had to get away.

I just had to get away from everything, man.

I just had to go for a run and just keep running.

I want to feel the wind in my hair.

You got lost.

I got lost.

Yeah.

I got lost.

This is where I wish animals could talk.

Yeah.

Because I would like to know, it's like, was it like the incredible journey, you know?

Yeah.

What happened on your way?

Did you fight bears?

It got so many questions.

Lots of questions.

Did you jump on a train like a hobo?

You know, and that kind of thing.

What did you do?

What did you do?

Did you get a buy?

Well, we'll find out if we can get Luna on a midday magazine or something.

We'll try to do that.

For now, we will take a break.

Come back and do some celebrating with our friends at El Café.

It's Melissa.

Seth and James, taking you through your morning here at WFHR.

It's time for the El Café, Birthday and Anniversary Club.

One of our favorite parts of the day where we get to celebrate you, your birthdays, your

anniversary, and talk about our friends at El Café.

Do you like the little snippets that you got there?

Yeah, a little, a little medley.

I want to start doing that on Fridays.

Oh, cool.

I want to start doing that.

I'm playing the ones we played throughout the week and everything.

Just have some fun with us very nice.

Very nice.

I'm inspired.

I'm inspired by our friends at El Café.

They're fantastic.

Not only do they have some great breakfasts and lunch specials for you today, but we encourage

you to like their Facebook page, not only to keep up on the great specials that they

have in different things, but you can find out how they have their fish fry tonight.

Be sure to check out that.

Not everybody knows that they have a great fish fry every Friday.

You can check it.

Yes, indeed.

Yep.

Keep that in mind.

They have their homemade desserts as well.

Some great stuff.

And part of the reason I encourage you to is post it like they make this morning about

Good morning.

Hope everyone gets to enjoy their day and weekend despite the weather.

It's business as usual for us at the Café.

We're open 7-8.

Have a great Friday.

Make someone's day.

Dance in the rain.

Smile as you travel through the desi detours of life.

And they thank everybody for their business so much.

Very nice.

I think the traveling through the detours of life with some of the construction going on

and then for one play.

Very well done.

Very well done.

They have such a great time, such a great staff and a wonderful menu.

Check out our friends over at L Café at 221 Market Avenue and beautiful port edwards.

And of course, get us those birthdays and anniversaries of everybody.

Send them to infowfhr.com, james.mail.fatsivignitya.us, and of course, you can direct message us

on our Facebook pages.

There was another one.

There was another one.

Melissa, there was a call.

Yeah.

715-424-2600.

Feel free to call up and join the conversation, everybody.

We love to hear from you.

And we have a busy list here today.

I have no idea how many celebrities birthdays we'll get to because we've got you, our celebrities,

to get to.

Wow.

First up, I need a one through four, Melissa.

Ooh.

Uh, four.

Okay.

All right.

That works out.

That's interesting.

All right.

So we can go ahead and get right into the next day and Saturday and they need a one through

five, Seth.

Oh, one.

All right.

It gives us that qualifier.

We'll get right into the next one where Sunday is up and we look for another one through

five, Melissa.

Ooh.

I'm going to go with five.

Okay.

It gives us that.

It's got to be the opposite.

It's always a good idea.

I don't know.

I actually agree with you on that one.

We take a look at our birthdays for today and first up, I want to wish a happy birthday

to Bob Island.

Happy birthday, Bob.

Happy birthday.

Enjoy your day, sir.

And celebrating their 55th anniversary, Bob and Vidon and Violet Dion.

Oh.

55th anniversary.

Yeah.

Awesome.

Uh, uh, uh, yeah, just a very happy 55th and appreciate them getting this to us every

year.

I mean, I mean, no, I think as long as I've been doing this, they've been getting us that

anniversary.

Love this.

Love that you guys celebrate with us.

Yeah.

Happy 60 plus years to Ross and Donna Peats.

Oh, wow.

That's pretty cool.

That's a congratulations.

Appreciate them getting us that one.

That's beautiful.

That makes my romantic heart sing.

That's awesome.

60.

Wow.

And our qualifiers celebrating their 27th anniversary, Jay and Melissa Matys.

Oh, Jay and Melissa, congratulations.

Congratulations.

Congratulations.

I couldn't help it.

I think that was funny.

Melissa picked the moment.

Yeah.

To do that.

She just picked the number.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

We take.

It's very versatile.

Yeah.

We take a look at Saturday, birthdays where we first up, wish a happy birthday to Don Van

Dozer.

Happy birthday, Don.

Happy birthday.

It's a great name.

That's a great name.

It is.

I'm very, very cool.

We wish happy birthday to Jill Hagen.

Happy birthday, Jill.

Happy birthday, Jill.

Gary Shaw.

Happy birthday, Gary.

Gary.

Steve Darkoon.

Darkoo, you.

Oh, let me see this one.

I don't know.

Yeah.

Let's see.

Steve Durand Cole.

Hmm.

Durand Cole, I guess.

That's how I would say it.

Happy birthday, Steve.

It's Steve.

Yeah.

Enjoy your day, Mr. Steve.

Yes.

Enjoy your day, Steve.

Great.

And our qualifier is celebrating their 80th birthday, Marlene Munch.

Oh.

Happy birthday, Marlene.

Happy birthday, Marlene.

Happy 80th to you, Marlene.

Yeah.

We wish you a great one.

And you're our qualifier.

Congratulations.

Gary, cool.

Some honorable mentions when it comes to Saturday.

We want to wish a very happy birthday to one of the voices that made this station, Mr.

Terry Stake.

Oh, happy birthday, Terry.

Happy birthday, Terry.

For decades, Terry was here doing sports, doing morning shows, and so much other work.

And one of the more kinder, cooler people to me when I first started in this business,

that did not have to be.

I didn't work with Terry at all.

In the early days of my time in radio and everything, but always treated me great.

That's good.

And I really enjoy Terry calling a game or talking sports.

We would have him join us to talk wrestling quite a bit.

It's not just his passion, but his intelligence for these sports.

And his care for this area and local kids.

I think that Terry be the first to tell you.

He loves his pro sports, loves his packers and all that.

But man, the way he felt about high school sports, it really helped, I think, solidify where WFHR was going to go

when it came to covering high school sports.

Right.

His in-depth and reliable coverage is a gigantic part of what helps make this station get to where it does.

Without sports, I don't know where advertisers and different things that are going to join this station.

And without that, I don't know what happens in WFHR in many ways.

So I'm not stretching here or anything saying that he is an integral part of this station's history.

And you can't talk about the history of WFHR without mentioning Terry's take.

There you go.

Wishing you well, sir.

Hope you're doing all right up way up there in North.

And you catch something today if you're out there on the lake.

And say hi to Terry.

Terry.

Yes.

Yes.

Nicely done.

And I do want to take a moment to remember.

This would have been Carl and Pam's anniversary.

They would have been married 39 years on this day in 1985.

Wishing you, yeah, thinking of you, Pam can't wait to see you later.

And certainly, of course, thinking of Carl as I don't know if there's a day that goes by,

I turn these mics on and they don't.

Especially his, his laugh.

And I can't tell you how many times I mess up a name on the air and I hear Carl's laugh it by God.

There's no, he's laughing.

He's making fun.

And on Sunday, we got some birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate.

Alex Johnson McNaughton.

Wishing happy birthday to Alexis.

I'm sorry.

Alexis.

Okay.

Happy birthday, Alexis.

Enjoy your day, Alexis.

Wishing you happy birthday to Jerry Klingforth.

Happy birthday, Jerry.

Happy birthday, Jerry.

Dave Urban.

Happy birthday, Dave.

Dave.

Happy 17th anniversary to Joe and Sandy Soplina.

Oh, congratulations.

Happy birthday.

Yeah.

17s a fun one that seems like that beautiful.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I say like I know.

Like you know.

You're 17th anniversary.

I didn't even celebrate a second, like a second anniversary.

And a very happy anniversary to our qualifiers on Sunday celebrating their 40th anniversary.

Patrick and Kim Young.

Oh, Patrick and Kim.

I'm sorry.

Yeah.

Congratulations, you two.

Mm-hmm.

And stick around, because on Monday, we will be announcing our winner for July, for June.

I can't believe we're at the end of June.

It's just crazy.

I know.

I'm trying not even to think about how much to be honest with you.

Make it go crazy.

I love thinking about El Caffe and our friends over there in Port Edwards.

Not only do they sponsor this segment, but they gave us the opportunity at the beginning of every month

to give it a recipient winner of the month they will receive $2.20 gift certificates to El Caffe.

Wow.

And that will get you quite a lot of food.

That will.

It will.

Yeah.

And join our friends over at El Caffe, wish them a great day from all of us.

We take a look at our celebrity list.

Kelly Pickler is 38 country singer, turned TV reality star.

Mm-hmm.

Best days of your life.

And she came in sixth place in American Idol.

And one, and she won season 16 of Dancing with the Stars.

Oh, wow.

That's cool.

How about this?

Nice.

Very career.

Felicia Day is 45.

Charlie Unsupernatural.

Poppy on the Magicians.

The villain Kinga Forrester on the latest incarnation of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Felicia Day is awesome.

She really rocks.

I like her so much.

She's a really good writer too.

She does some really good stuff in that role.

Fabulous singer.

I didn't know that.

Recently.

I had no idea.

I've been watching her since Supernatural.

And I loved her as Charlie on that show.

It's the whole reason I started following a lot of what she does.

And I didn't know she could sing.

Oh, yeah.

And she joined Dr. Horrible Sing Along.

Yes.

Yeah.

She also on the reboot season of Mystery Science Theater.

Her and Neil Patrick Harris do a duet together.

And it is hilarious.

So good.

So good.

Oh, man.

Anything with Pat and Oswald is going to be one.

I will always bet on that, Matt.

One of my favorites.

One of my biggest influences of all time.

John Cusack is 58 today.

John's younger brother and the star of the wonderful 80s classics

better off dead.

A one-hot crazy summer.

Did a more-

More fidelity.

More recently.

Did a wonderful job in the Beach Boys biopic playing in that.

Did an amazing job playing Edgar Allan Poe in the Raven.

It is underrated performance and an underrated movie of his recent works.

I've looked up to this band literally my whole life.

His family, the Cusacks, are only a couple blocks away from where my family grew up

in Taylor and Racine.

And it may not seem like a big deal now seeing him, his sister, and their careers.

But he was a hometown kid that made good.

He was a guy that got this stuff and didn't necessarily have any breaks

or anything made it on talent.

And look, in some ways, as he would tell you.

I was going into my biggest audition of my life at the time,

a step-in-world theater.

There is an elevator to take you up.

I actually got lost in my city.

I was so nervous to get to this audition.

I took the wrong L-train and everything.

And I finally get there and I'm rushing up there because I feel I don't know if I'm later not

because I don't have a cell phone at this time or anything.

And I get into the elevator and I get my back against wall and I take a deep breath

because I made it.

I'm there.

I'm at the studio.

I'm at the theater.

And there's a guy standing next to me.

He's incredibly tall and in sunglasses, in an elevator.

And it's John Cusack.

And at this point in my life, I have not met or talked to celebrities or anything like that.

I'm just an actor trying to make it.

And I see him.

And this is one of the biggest influences of my life.

I've never been, maybe, I don't know if I've ever been that nervous.

I really don't.

I didn't know what to say.

I had no idea.

And I just told him, I'm sorry, I have to do this.

I'm a really big fan.

You're a big influence on me.

My family's from right tailoring or scene.

And he looks at me and he's already here for.

Like, I audition.

Good luck.

Break the leg.

You're going to do great.

That was it.

That's all he's done.

And I get out of the elevator.

And I'm just thinking about this.

My God, I just met.

This day can't, nothing could go wrong.

I get the audition or not.

Like, this was awesome.

And I sit down.

And I look back and I'm like, he's still in the elevator.

And it went back down.

What was he doing in that elevator?

I feel like if I ever get the chance to work with him,

I'm going to waste the time with him just talking about this moment

in my life that has confused me my whole life.

Why was he just, why did he stay at the end?

It only went up one floor.

And it went down.

I got on.

He stayed out of it.

Was it that?

Did he not want to get off the elevator with me?

Did I embarrass him?

I don't know.

Thank you.

Very uncomfortable.

It's just driving me crazy since I was 20.

I'd love to know.

Also, incredible actor.

Yes.

Mary Stewart Masterson is 58 today.

Another good actor.

Yeah.

Some kind of wonderful.

Benny and June better roses, fried green tomatoes.

Great versatile actor.

Blind spot.

She got to play FBI director Hearst and that one

and show a little bit of a darker role.

But Benny and June, underrated role with her, Robert.

Yeah.

Is it Robert?

No, Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp.

Thank you.

I know it was Johnny.

I know it was one of those.

Johnny Depp's just incredibly charming in that movie.

And she is steals the show.

She's great in that.

John L. Wei is 64 today.

Denver Bronco is a legend.

Went out on top.

Two super voles.

Went out on top.

Yeah, do better than that.

The great, the wonderful, the fearless Kathy Bates is 76 today.

All right.

She's great.

Happy birthday to her.

That's 66.

Wow.

I think you can make the argument the king of comedy when it comes to movies.

Mel Brooks is 98 today.

Let's all give it up to Mel Brooks.

98 years old.

My goodness.

Genius writer.

Director.

Young Frankenstein.

Blazing Saddles.

History of the world.

Part one.

The producers.

Spaceballs.

I could just keep going, everybody.

We didn't even talk about his Broadway career.

No.

What did he in television?

I mean, even for that.

Yeah.

The groundbreaking work that him and so many of his other writers made for Jewish people in this industry.

Part of the reason they say that Jews run Hollywood is people like Mel Brooks.

Because he's so dang talented and good.

Yeah.

They've got all these different breaks.

Just an amazing human being.

And wishing him well.

Mm-hmm.

Some people no longer with us.

Like the great Pat Moriardi.

Born in the state in 1932.

Pestwie in 05.

Mr. Miyagi in the karate kid.

And of course Arnold on happy days.

Love, love, love, love him.

He was one of the best.

Just one of the best.

Great character actor.

Really, really good character actor.

That movie.

All the karate kid movies.

Yep.

They're not, they're not, they're not made.

They're not hits without him.

Without him.

No, not at all.

I'm a big Ralph Machio fan.

I like my, I liked Ralph Machio a lot.

I actually thought that he was going to be another John Cusack.

I thought he was going to be one of those actors and everything.

But without Pat, it's not the same.

Just not the same.

And my mom's favorite actor, actress I should say.

Favorite comedian for sure.

Gilder Radner born in this day in 1946.

Pestwie in 1989.

Way too soon.

SNL superstar.

Of course, the wife of Gene Wilder.

Gene Wilder.

And an incredible actress in her own right.

Much like a lot of actors we lose young.

I've been thinking about this and was talking about it the other day

with Chris Farley.

I don't think a lot of people realize Chris Farley was a full actor.

He could do it all.

He just never got the opportunity to.

Right.

Especially in this day and age where we love to put like an Adam Sandler

and uncut gems or something like that.

Casting directors are braver.

Against type kind of stuff.

Yeah.

I'd love to see Chris Farley do something like that.

Something, maybe not, not Shakespeare, but maybe something that is a little more serious

than he was used to and everything.

We've seen Jim Carey, Robin Williams, all these actors show I'm not just a funny guy.

I'd love to have seen that with him.

And I really would have loved to have seen it for Gilda Radner.

Gilda Radner was a full-fledged actor and could do it all.

Incredible actor.

We take a quick look at our Saturday birthdays.

Let's see here.

Oh, no, that's a day in history.

That is not birthdays.

I was just about to start talking.

Wait a minute.

Oh, I was just about to give you all the history of Saturday.

Let's see here.

A Dan Deerdorf celebrating a birthday on Saturday,

75 for Dan Deerdorf still.

And Richard Lewis would have been 77 tomorrow.

Oh, great media.

The great, Richard Lewis.

We have to mention on Sunday, Michael Phelps is 39.

Wow.

Wow.

The most decorated Olympian of all time.

One himself 28 Olympic medals and 23 of them are gold.

And I feel like I watched every single one of them.

God, I love my Michael Phelps.

It was a lot of fun.

Hey, Katie's coming for you, Michael.

Yeah, she is.

Yeah, she is, man.

Katie Ladecki is something.

Mike Tyson is 58 on Sunday.

Wow.

That's another big one right there.

And Vincent DeNafrio is 65 on Sunday.

Fantastic actor.

Very good actor.

Really, really good actor.

David Allen Greer is 68 in living color superstar.

Another great actor.

Very another versatile actor.

Yes.

And people that no longer with us.

Lena Horn would have been celebrating a birthday on Sunday,

born in 1917, passed away in 2010.

Living a long life.

She did.

Legend of the screen and singer and civil rights activists.

Stormy weather.

Oh, man.

I got to listen to Stormy weather.

That's her classic.

That's her standard right there.

Lena Horn, man.

Oh, just that voice.

And we encourage you to celebrate your birthdays

and anniversaries all weekend long.

And if you know somebody that's celebrating one,

celebrate with them.

Yeah.

And celebrate with our friends over at L Cafe at 221 Market

Avenue in beautiful Port Edwards.

We got our news break and then we're coming back with the star

of the day right here at WFHR.

Lights, camera.

Action.

It is time to make somebody a star of the day with our friends

from the Wisconsin Rapids call verse.

What we do every Friday in this time slot is give you something

like a TV song, TV theme song or something along those lines

to listen to and call in and get right.

What we're going to do today is an 80s theme song.

80s TV theme song.

And if you know it and you have a one anything in 30 days,

call up 715-424-2600.

Just touch a couple of buttons on the Civic Media app.

And you'll get right to us.

Get to us however you need to so you can get this free call verse.

We got a family pack of call verse right in front of me.

It is two kids meals, two adults meals.

That's free call verse.

Free.

Baby.

You can't beat free.

You cannot beat free call verse.

No way.

Not with a stick.

We want you to go ahead and get ready to call 715-424-2600.

Let us know what TV theme song this is.

Make a new way in the world today.

Takes everything you got.

All right.

This is insane.

There we go.

There we go.

What's ever been before?

Finally, finally.

I would have thought what the laughter almost would have gotten people.

Let's go ahead and see.

Who do we got on the phone here?

What's your answer?

Cheers.

Yeah.

Of course.

Of course.

Of course.

Cheers.

Congratulations to you.

We know your name here.

Yeah.

We know your name.

Tom.

Thank you so much for listening.

We appreciate that.

Were you a fan of the show?

Yes.

I did.

Quite often.

It's just one of those shows.

I don't know many people, if any, that did watch the show that didn't enjoy cheers at some level.

I've never heard anybody say, I couldn't stand that show.

I've never heard that.

It's one of those sitcoms.

And if you watched it, you enjoyed the show.

Or you at least had to watch the show.

It's just one of those shows.

I don't know.

Many people, if any, that did watch the show that didn't enjoy cheers at some level.

Or you at least had one of the things that I think was so important on that show.

As well, you know, Sam was kind of the lead actor.

And, you know, Shelley Long for a while there, and then Christie Alley.

If you really go back and watch those episodes, there is no real lead.

There's just like 10 great actors with great characters that were defined over many seasons

so that you got to know and like them and care about them.

For example, yeah.

If they wanted to feature Cliff Claven in the episode,

who was like the fifth or sixth kind of notable character on that show,

you kept watching.

You wanted to see what happened to Cliff.

It was just such a well written and such a well done show.

And it shows what happens when you give a show more than a week to be on the air.

Building audience, yeah.

You build characters, you build an audience,

and you have one of the most classic TV shows of all time in cheers.

Do you have a favorite character on the show, Tom?

Cliff and Norm.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

The patrons.

Yes.

It's a perfect dancer, perfect dancer.

I was a big fan of Woody, but I actually, I was a big fan of Coach and then Woody.

I don't know why, but that position I just really liked on that show.

We appreciate you, Tom.

You know where we are.

We know your information.

You go ahead and stop by and pick this up, sir, when you get a time.

Get a chance, okay?

We'll see you Monday.

I was going to say, you can pick it up.

Right.

You'll be here on Monday.

Yep.

You'll be here Monday.

Maybe pick it up then.

We appreciate you, Tom.

You have a good weekend.

Thank you very much.

I do want to make a note that as long as Tom just called us and joined us here, not only

will Tom be joining us on Monday with our monthly veterans update in the, after a kitchen's

open segment.

But Tom was also the one nice enough to bring us these signs that we have been able to

hand out and get to many of our veterans up there, and I do want to remind everyone

that we have these signs here that say combat veteran lives here, please be courteous with

fireworks.

Yes.

If you know a veteran, if we, they could use one of these, you can come by and pick one

up for them, or you can encourage them to come by and pick one up, and we encourage all

of you, everybody, whether you're a military member or not, militarywithptsd.org, militarywithptsd.org.

It is not just people dealing with PTSD that should learn and know what PTSD is, 100%, hopefully

create a little more empathy, not only for our communities, but specifically our soldiers

and those that are struggling with this.

Everything goes a long way.

Appreciate you, Tom.

Thank you so much for that time.

Yes.

And of course, thank you to James Burrows and all the team at Cheers for a great one out

here.

We'll have another, another star of the day for you.

I saw the Elcafaker.

Yeah.

There you are.

We'll have another one for you next Friday, right in this time slot, on Mornings at WFHR.

Welcome back, everybody.

Mornings show here at WFHR, locally grown radio.

Melissa, Seth and James here with you.

We hope you're having a great Friday out there.

Happy Friday.

Get you ready for the weekend with some good stuff.

A little bit later, I'm going to let the gang here decide, do we get into, and either

one, we don't get into, we'll do it Monday, so don't worry about that.

We have something that seems easy to others, but it's difficult to you, or the 10 most

underrated skills that everyone should learn.

Okay.

We'll decide which one we get into in the 9 o'clock hour, be listening for that.

For right now, we're getting into here, the top three things we consider when naming

our car.

I thought this would be a fun one.

I know, in part, because I feel like where I am in the middle kind of of this, Melissa,

I know that you have named a vehicle or two, and I've owned all my vehicles.

Okay, all of them, all right.

And I believe Seth, you find this, let me get this right, silly, silly, ridiculous.

So I thought this was fun.

Between the three of us and everything, we have, I name everything Seth, and it's not

lame at all.

It's wonderful.

Oh, jeez.

I would just counter that, Seth, with my father does the same thing Melissa does.

I don't know if you would consider him a silly human being or not.

I don't think so, but maybe, maybe.

So what?

You name like light bulbs and stuff like that?

Hey, if you name light bulbs, I'm telling you, man, if you name everything, if a light bulb

goes out, it's like a death in the family.

Okay.

So why are you doing that to yourself?

We lost Brydie, everybody.

We got to change him.

What you recycle him?

You recycle him?

He goes back in there itself.

So Brydie lives forever.

Okay, gotcha.

On to the next chapter of his life.

Yeah.

Does your car have a name?

It's apparently a sign of love.

A poll found people who love their car are more likely to name it.

49% of people who have a car they love have given it a name.

They compare that to 20% of people who just like their car and 14% who don't like their

car.

So what's the top thing we consider when choosing a good name?

The number one answer was the car's personality.

Oh.

In that of course, can be very mixed in meanings or feelings of course.

So personality was number one with 37% of people who have named the car.

They said it was why they chose the name.

They did.

The Macon model came in next with 29% like calling your key for a key of 40 will for

will for will for 10 something like that.

That's pretty clever.

I like that one.

And how it performs 21% name it like if it's a fast car they name it zippy or maybe if

it's a slow beater, you name it zippy, you know, ironically.

The poll found that the top ways we show our car some love are by giving it a regular

maintenance, having the oil changed, getting it washed and taking it out for a leisure

drive.

Okay.

I like the idea of like when you have to like we love our animals, but at the that one

day when you're just beat and you don't really feel like walking the dog, I like the idea

of I got it.

I mean, I've been driving all week.

I got to take the car out for a drive.

I got otherwise it's going to get antsy.

It's going to be up all night keeping me up.

I got to take the car for a drive like that.

I like that.

No.

I don't see on here what I've gone to the creative genius that I am.

The color.

Hey, that's pretty much what I go to by the first thing the pops of my head.

Okay.

My dad when I was growing up, he had a series of Ford toruses.

And he yes, he did name them and he named them because of toruses of bull.

So there was the white one, which was old bull because that was the first one.

Then there was blue ball was the obviously blue one and then red blue ball.

You get the idea.

That kind of thing.

So he did the same thing, man.

It's not like if he was a Chicago Bulls fan, he'd have names for a long time.

That would be great.

I want to get to what Melissa goes to, but first a caller.

Good morning.

You're on the air.

I mean, yes.

I know what name Melissa calls her card.

It's Kevin.

Everything's Kevin.

It would make things.

It worked for George Foreman.

That's right.

One of those kids, right?

Yeah.

Kevin, do you name your vehicles?

Oh, you made him speechless.

You made him speechless.

I didn't hear it.

Oh, did you name your vehicles, Kevin?

No, no, I don't know him.

I don't know him.

I'm Kevin, but right now the one my truck is called is called Maynard.

Oh, good name.

Yeah.

Good name.

That's good.

That's good.

That's perfect.

That's perfect.

Do you have the voice in your head and your head and the Maynard voice of the Larry the

cable guy voice?

Yeah.

That's perfect.

That's perfect.

Oh, my gosh.

I like that.

I like that.

Always good to talk with you, Kevin.

Save that voice for playmakers later.

Yeah.

I got to remember it.

It's Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

That's right.

That's right.

Nicely done.

Five to six.

Man helps us advertise too.

Thank you so much.

Yeah.

We appreciate it.

Have a good one, man.

You too.

You too.

In my defense, I have never named anything, Kevin.

That's true.

That's true.

That's very true.

It wasn't me.

That's true.

And my very first vehicle that I purchased was a Jeep and I named him Humbertink.

Humbertink.

Humbertink.

It's my Jeep.

Humbertink.

Humbertink.

Humbertink.

And the next incarnation of that same Jeep, which I bought from my grandpa, I named Pappy.

Oh, that's cool.

I like that.

I like that.

It was like the duplicate of Humbertink, though, it was the exact same Jeep.

I love the idea of naming it Humbertink.

Just for every time you get in that car, no, I can't hear you.

I can't hear you.

So many great things.

You know what?

I think I figured out my whole thing with this.

You never had it so good.

I've had a love hate relationship with cars over more hate than love over my life.

So I think the reason that I don't want to personify my car at all is that at some point

somewhere, some day, that car is going to betray you.

It will always, it's going to happen at some point.

You know it.

You know it's going to happen.

So I just can't.

I got to keep my distance.

See, Seth, maybe this is the reason why your car is betray you, because you don't show them at all.

No.

And care.

I refuse.

I refuse to believe that.

I need you to change your ways.

That car gets the maintenance it needs.

It gets what it's, and it's still not enough.

It's going to turn on me.

It doesn't get the love from you, Seth.

Seth names all of his vehicles Benedict.

All of them.

All of them.

They're all betrayers.

They're all betrayers.

They're all the betrayers in like Judas.

My car Judas.

My last two vehicles are the only ones that I've named.

And it was meant a lot to me to have my first Jeep.

I've won one for a long time.

It was blue.

And it made me happy.

And it just immediately thought of Maggie Simpson, who was always in a blue, you know, always wearing blue.

Right.

And my favorite cartoon character.

So that's why I went, I called Maggie.

My first Jeep Maggie.

This one I've been calling blue for a very similar reason, but not just because it's blue.

I got it in Milwaukee, and I was down there, and I thought about my sister, who was just an hour or so away in Madison.

And she's my best friend.

She's one of my favorite people in the universe.

And I thought of her.

And immediately seeing the blue color, I thought of one of her favorite shows, Foster's Home for Imaginary Children.

They had their lead character, Blue.

One of the greatest animated characters of all time.

Blue is awesome.

And he spells it B-L-O-O.

So that's what I...

Yes, nice.

I like that.

I think whatever you do, it's fun.

I think that one thing about this, that I actually...

I feel for you almost, Seth, with not too much or anything, because you've got a lot of outlets.

But there's plenty of people out there that don't have a ton of creative outlets.

Naming your vehicle can be one of those.

And it could be an exercise and creativity.

It could be an exercise and fun.

And just having a light moment of life.

This is coming from me, again, the most serious person on the planet.

We need to take a moment where we don't take life so seriously.

I'm probably in the minority on this one too.

I'm guessing a lot of people, at least have a nickname or something they call it a car.

I do have to compliment...

They call it car.

Yes, yes.

Or a rock boat.

You can call it rack, you car backwards.

That's a different thing.

We want to hear your names for your vehicles, whether it's new or old.

Call up and let us know 715-424-2600.

We've got the whole next hour to talk to you.

Feel free at any point, no matter what we're talking about.

Call up, let us know what you name your vehicles.

I think they...

I'm about styling with the Civic Media app.

That's right.

I think they should come up with better actual car names.

Yeah.

Then we don't really have to do it.

Remember back when they had a car called a Gremlin?

That was cool.

They had a car called a Gremlin, man.

Well, how about when cars actually had personality?

They all look different.

Yeah.

And they were actually with some differentiation.

How about some car company get brave?

It isn't run by an idiot or a want to be mad genius

and everything in Elon Musk and whatever that thing he created.

Or look like a five-year-old's drawing?

Yeah.

Let's see some creativity over the car companies.

Take some chances.

They're so afraid to take a chance.

Everybody complains about Hollywood and the movie industry

not taking chances.

Look at the car industry.

It's never taken chances.

Never.

Never.

I mean, watch the movie Tucker and then go out there and do your job

and make some safe vehicles and quit worrying about like,

well, we can't make it too safe.

We want them to have to buy a new one.

Look at what happened when they did the most radical car design.

The bug.

The Volkswagen bug and they sold a cajillion of them.

They're still selling them.

And they're still selling them.

Yeah.

It's a power of creativity.

But I don't know.

One of the old style ones.

I do like the old style ones.

We will get out here on that.

We'll come back with nothing but fun.

Positiveity.

It is the morning show on WFHR.
