Okay, for the week is pets, actually, of the week. And I know you always pull up on your laptop there. So this week it's kittens and puppies.
We have actually 30 kittens and foster right now. Oh my goodness. Yeah, you can see them on our Facebook page.
So and we also have six puppies in foster. Okay. That unfortunately kind of a sad story.
I got to be careful with this. We had a citizen call that wanted to surrender the mom and the six puppies because they said the mom was dying. So we arranged foster right away for the puppies.
Tried to save mom. We actually went to Appleton to vet there for specialty, but after a difficult decision, I had to make mom did not make it. So the puppies are doing final. Good.
We just had a board meeting Tuesday and the foster mom is one of our board members. Oh wow. It was really nice. She brought all of the puppies to the meeting. So that's cool. That's really cool.
That's got to be the best kind of meeting. Yeah. Good on her for doing that. That's really cool. Only a couple of accidents. So that's great. That's a win right there. That's good. Yes. So check that out on our Facebook page. The puppies start not on there yet. And I don't know what kind of puppies are they there are a mix. I honestly don't know. We don't know much about anything. Ella was the mom and the dad is supposed to
be a bigger dog. Ella was the only like about 20 pounds. Okay. They're smaller puppies, but are they active? Yeah. Yeah. So they might be small to medium size dogs. I have no idea. We will we encourage you to find out. Go ahead and reach out the main society. You can know. We'll give you the information on how you can do that. And just a little bit. What else you have to. Okay. This is really nice. This is exciting. And it's a first for your show.
We hired a new director of operations. So you're right. After kind of a lengthy search, long process, whatever Sarah Hansen will be starting July 1st.
Hey. All right. Congratulations, Sarah. Welcome aboard. Yes. She is very excited. And we're excited to have her. So very cool, especially this person. Because then she will take over the job. I've been doing since. This is great news for you.
That is great news. Yes. And for those that don't know, Tim is is a 24 seven busy and and fitting this segment into the his day has not been easy. And I tell you off air all the time, how much I appreciate to do in this.
We really, really do appreciate it. It's been a lot of fun working with you and looking forward to talking again down the line and everything. But Sarah will be a welcome person to come in and take a little bit off of everybody's plate.
Yes. But thank you. Yeah. I do have a few things to do. That's a few things. That's what I thought retirement would be. Anyway, we also have a new on call driver. We have a whole bunch of new employees.
We're really moving forward. Our on call is a. It's just a temporary one to fill in. So then we'll have two and they can take turns. And that's my and we have a volunteer grant writer now. So we're going to be looking at doing that.
Boy, that goes a long way. If you don't know much about that, I imagine that some people that's in one ear out the others, but for a nonprofit, that's huge.
That having somebody to do that take on that task is just gigantic. A lot of our our local theater has been highlighted with that and been advanced because of it. I know a number of different nonprofits. That really helps a lot having somebody being able to focus on that and do that. That's great to hear.
Yes. It's not what I thought in the beginning. Yeah. You don't just go right a grant and get money. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I would have thought too. Yeah. No, it's actually specific projects you go for. So you have to have a need. Yeah.
Then you find the grants for it. You write. And then you're competing. And then you have to show what you did with the money and down the road, what you accomplished. So it's a lot more to it. It's a lot more to it.
Yes. So it'll be nice to have somebody doing that. Great. A great news to hear all those employees are wonderful updates. Oh, we've been just moving along lately. Yeah.
Yeah. I imagine that. Well, and the last thing here, I always get to look at the clock. We have a whole bunch of events that are coming up now. I want to tell that your listeners know
that the Humane Study only has two fundraisers a year that we run that are ours basically. These other events that we publicize are private people or organizations or whatever who say, well, we'll give you a vendor booth or we'll run a festival for you and we'll donate all some of the profits all depends. So
not everything that we say here is a Humane Society event. Yeah. So the busiest one is going to be next week, Thursday. We actually have four events on the same day.
Yeah. Oh, I just heard I found out what that means. Oh, yeah. I did. The one of my friends on Facebook put that on. What does that mean?
So next Thursday, actually, we'll have the radio show. That's one. Then there'll be at Arrowhead is having a golf outing down in Rome.
And that is going to be between us and the Adams County Humane Society. So they have a I'm not sure about all this, but they they have golf and then like a shotgun start. Yeah.
Maybe you know more about this than I do, but we'll look into it and make sure that we'll make sure to get the details out there from the audience. Yes. And then of course we have lunch by the river.
We had a nice meeting. The Chamber of Commerce came out. I'm sure you know them. Oh, yeah. And they wanted a tour. So I gave my tour of the Humane Society. And they said, well, why don't you come out to lunch by the river?
What were you still and I said, you know, we're going to start up and do this again. Yeah. Yeah.
It's a great idea to get these animals out there to get the Humane Society and the public more. Even if an animal is not adopted, the awareness that's raised from that.
It is, you know, you can't really put it on words. It's a great idea. It's a great combination.
And then also that day, there's a Raptor's game and it's barking the park. So yeah, it's a fun one. That's one of our favorite events. Yes.
And then just going back to her second there, barking for birdies. The golf fundraiser is going to be June 27th. Registration said nine shotgun start at 10.
$100 dollar golf or $100 for a golfer free includes 18 free includes 18 holes of golf, a meal, prizes, donations, and of course all the proceeds going to our local Humane Society.
I love the name of that. It's a perfect name. That's a perfect name for that.

Speaking of new additions, we're going to get to that in a second here at the station.
Diving into our entertainment news, Billie Eilish is just become the third artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
But what's even more impressive is she is the youngest to do it at just the age of 22.
She's also only had about 82 songs which is also stands out.
The other two artists to surpass the 100 million mark are the weekend with 107 and of course Taylor Swift with 102.
An interesting note for her and her career as she's building this career of hers and kind of building a lot more than a career really because she's trying to do things a lot differently.
This is an artist where if I'm being blunt, she's a she's a very beautiful girl.
But she is not that that she I wouldn't say she hides that but that is not something that you're going to see a lot of.
She's not somebody that's you know kind of selling albums because of her look or or a niche thing that she's doing.
She's really just being herself.
Yes and very focused on the music and a lot of what I would I hear from people a lot of people that are younger and fans of hers
is they appreciate her approach to it's about the music, not about the appearance, not about image or a broken relationship or some of the things that that
you know that everybody else falls into right right and and I will say too I don't know a whole lot of her music.
I only know a couple of songs that I got in my shuffle of hers but she's got such a unique voice such a I
whether she's a great singer or not I'm not smart enough to know but I will say I love her originality.
I like that that she just sounds like an original singer to me original voice.
For sure.

Yes I did want to send a shout out as well to our rafters nice victory last night.
Come from behind win this is one of those you know one of those low I talk about low hanging
fruit one of those terms that we use a lot in sports Melissa that they're they're scrappy they're
scrappy that's the words we use when we don't know what else to say about a team that just seems
to do things like this they never seem to be out of a game they always seem to fight even if
it's the ninth inning and they're down by five runs they're still trying and I think a lot of
people that art sports fans might hear that well yeah that's what you're supposed to do these
are human beings they don't always do that this team does and and nine runs in the eighth inning
including a banger of a home run and a great call by Andy Jockum great job by him nice very nice
victory for the rafters they will be marching on tonight the rafters got a I should say today
they got a double header let's play two oh my 1150 is when our first one will kick off the rafters
are up and was saw taken on the wood chucks today okay and then game two scheduled for six 20
so shouldn't it unless game one goes a little bit longer than usual six 20 should be the start time
for that keep in mind if you haven't been keeping up on the standings in the north woods league the
wasaw wood chucks are number one in our division in the great lakes west division they're 19 and
three on the season with the rafters are eight and a half games behind they're 10 and 11 on this
season this early season okay and something that Andy brought up on the broadcast last night that
I thought was really interesting and a great note by him this first half of the season we're going
to get through and and it's going to be a little rough here and there but we're going to have
games like we did last night it's the second half of the season I would really be locked in on
everybody that is when not only we're going to have a couple more players joining us but we're
going to have an advantage and not most teams in the north woods league do not have these are mostly
made of college players and when their teams start up their next college baseball season they're
of course going to be going to do that and fulfill their dreams and their scholarship responsibilities
and everything one of the things the rafters have done this season is most of the guys on our team
there's their schools their school year doesn't start until late august or early september so they
got nowhere to be but here in rapids hey hey so when the second half of the season where a lot of
these teams in the north woods leagues are going to be losing players a lot of key players the
rafters are going to have their team intact nice it should be pretty exciting a second half of the
season but we got to get through the first still and we got and would you say James that during
the first half of the season these guys are still learning each other because have is this the
first time they're playing together it's a great great thing to bring up Melissa yeah chemistry is
so mean that knows nothing about sports but I great nobody know about teamwork yeah yeah and you're
good at it and it's it's one of those things that you know you just can't you just can't create
it takes time it takes chemistry we we heard about how the young maguire came to town here he was
here for five minutes and all the sun he's playing catcha and doesn't even know the guys names yet
that he's playing catch with so you know it takes time takes time and and I would say that yeah
that's only going to build throughout the season and look at what they've already done just in the
building of that already close to 500 and having some great games like last night gonna but it's
been a fun season already it's only gonna get more and more fun going forward here we're looking
forward to more and more great Raptor baseball throughout the whole season and before we go to
break Melissa I did want to take some time again to thank everybody that showed up for the virtual
town hall and keep a lookout for more of those the reason we did the virtual town hall is is really
a couple fold one we love being able to talk to you and hear your feedback yes absolutely
two we have this brand new newsletter that we're working really hard on and that I mean the whole
our whole staff here all of civic media are really working hard on getting these newsletters
together and get them out there to you yeah and we're still in the formulating stages of that which
is why we want the feedback from you on what you want included and the other part of this is we are
we've got a very exciting thing happening and it's kicks off next Monday yeah we have a lineup
change happening in our afternoons we do we do so from two to four the Maggie Dawn show will be
in complete tact that you'll get the full two hours of Maggie Dawn more Maggie that sounds good to me
and apparently it sounds really good to you listeners out there because you guys really like Maggie
as much as we do so we're very excited about that yeah yeah afterwards from four to five midday
magazine that's right five days a week now yes two extra guests a week on Monday so we'll be
we're very excited about that being able to go do even more local coverage and have more of our
our nonprofits and our great friends on the air with us we're looking forward to that more
chances to get you community things going on from five to six Monday Wednesday Friday playmakers
an expansion of the world famous show players it's it's a fun time that we have with you guys out
there and you're really the stars of the show you call up and join the conversation
and and get your words your feelings your sports thoughts and feelings out there we've had a lot
of fun with it we're also going to be able to do a lot more you know in real time coverage yeah
and we got such great feedback about that show last night I know where our listeners are going to be
just thrilled to have three whole days of it and Tuesdays even though that you know I'm not
as much as I pretend to be you know anti sports I'm really not I love sports I love you know
watching people that play sports I'm not really so into the professional but high school sports
you know our local sports teams awesome it's a great bit though I love that you keep it up I love
a bit what I'm excited about Melissa on Tuesdays and Thursdays community stories with Melissa
yes and this show is still in the formulating stages so I'm still working on this but
but the idea is to share your stories the community stories I want to talk to our elders and hear
history about our area I want to talk to our veterans and hear about their experiences and share
with with our listeners their experiences because like me I know there are other people who
haven't served in the military or don't have family that have served in the military so
to gain an understanding of what they have gone through to give us the freedoms that we enjoy
you know that we're going to be celebrating here very shortly next month on the fourth
and then I also want to talk with our students our kids in the area and share their stories
and their thoughts and their ideas and innovations and what their dreams and aspirations are so
it's really a full encompassing community stories is the idea so Tuesdays and Thursdays from
five to six that will kick off sometime and I'm anticipating in late July at this point yeah
for the mean just to be real yeah and and I love this is one of the things that we've learned
from our audience they love they like to be able to look behind the curtain Melissa wants this
show to be great for you guys and in order to do that it's going to take a little work a little
time if you haven't noticed Melissa's got quite a bit on her plate uh so it takes some time to get
those things yeah right uh we just mentioned with the newsletter and everything that she's
going to be a big part of it's all good stuff because I want the community I want to I want to share
with the community what the community wants to know and and we're we're big believers around here
of do you want it done quick or do you want it done right and and we choose right you know we've
done well yeah we we choose that and and looking forward to it uh in the meantime we'll be playing
some unlabeled and set faces of music in those time slots uh to be throwing a trail tunes yeah yeah
uh some of that uh I even think that uh maybe a best of kitchens open if that works uh something
like that but we've got things in the works that we're going to have some fun with uh and and it
Tuesdays but it's all going to be local yeah yeah Wisconsin rapids programming from four to six
Monday through Friday we have heard your voices and we we're listening and we're responding
where other uh other stations and other companies are uh you know taking minutes away from uh

from us because we've been talking about this for at least two years at least at least two years
uh I I think this is a fun idea I think that more now I'm not going to be able to get this whole
thing going but we need younger people out there to do this so we've got some options for you here
uh it's something that are kind of fun so uh giggle mug giggle mug okay someone who smiles too much
or constantly has a grin on their face okay I can see that because mug often refers to face
and you need to somebody you giggle mug you what about a sauce box sauce box that's a term
being saucy yeah it's a term for your mouth like uh you know hey hey shut your sauce box
okay I got to like that it's not bad sauce is our good um arf arf and arf that's an old British term
for a drunk person oh they give this as a phrase uh don't give them another beer he's already
arf arf arf okay what I like even better is somebody who's uh it's not as drunk just slightly
drunk not as drunk as the person they're talking about and trying to say this try to say that
you don't have any more he's too arf arf arf arf arf arf arf arf arf yeah it's gonna take
a while to give him anymore he's a dog yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah it's a dog pretending to be human in
the bar uh a pummel chook a pummel chook or pummel chook I think pummel chook this way now this
is someone who's greedy in pompous it's actually the name of a character in great expectations uh okay
okay okay uncle pummel chook uh I think it's uh how that we think I think it's an uncle I think
it's uncle pummel chook can't remember long time ago I read a great expectations long time ago
been a bit and gas pipes that's a term for someone's legs when their pants are on too tight
which are our popular uh clothing options yeah yeah with skinny jeans and leggings
yeah yeah I'm just gonna start calling them gas pipes because they're looking at those gas pipes
now these were the or smoke stacks yeah smoke stacks go to a Melissa maybe be appropriate for
Wisconsin rabbits yeah and in our area perfect way to tee us up Mel uh because uh we uh I got
some honorable mentions I want to get out there these were the five that readers digest suggested
you can find out more at readers digest.com I teased them uh I actually am a big big big big fan
of readers digest yes they were the first people to publish anything of mine uh one of my short
stories uh when I was when I was just uh getting started and everything and I've always been a big fan
of their work I love that readers digest is still a thing. I mean too I always loved reading the the
jokes I never read the articles as a kid but I always read the joke pages. Oh that's a good one. I uh
I kicked this off with one uh Wyzenheimer uh someone who thinks he or she is smarter than
everyone else this was big in the 1910s yeah don't be a Wyzenheimer or don't be a wise guy.
What a knuckle sandwich you know yeah I give you a knuckle sandwich you know we know what that one
means you know it's a fist I think we should bring that one back I like that one I like that one
oh what about just like taking things that already have a name but the making they have a
different meaning like applesauce okay uh back in the 20s the term for mocking someone who was
full of baloney was applesauce hey you're full of instead of saying well you would think
being full of baloney saying that would be the phrase straightforward yeah okay uh you're full
applesauce that's a good one uh after monified after monified uh that's a society word meaning smart
or uh you know uh the goods are not good they're after monified enough for me though
all right it sounds like a word like I don't know a little word a little wordy little wordy little
full of letters uh speaking of butter and egg man uh the man with the money uh that that
that was the person that had the money uh don't go to me with the check go to the guy with
the butter and egg man over there okay yeah just know where your bread is buttered you're right
right uh nicely done yes uh there's a lot of good ones out there but I wrap up with
zoos zoos of zoos old zoos old zoos old uh zoos old I was so zoos old last night I left my
phone at the bar uh this can mean in brewery in brewery you know in in a in a breed in a breed and
it's a lot easier to say than in a breed for me at least zoos old uh that's a good one that's
pretty fun if you've got any you'd like to add to the conversation please feel free to
do seven one five four two four twenty six hundred uh we'd love to hear from our audience any
chance we get uh feel free to call up and join the conversation everybody there's some good
ones out there and I really do think that this would be kind of fun to do it and you know what I
think would be fun whether these catch on or not is one thing I think it's just kind of fun to
throw them at people and see how they react they know what they mean well it's pretty common at
least for the us in our generation to be talking with younger people and they say things and I'm like
I don't know what they meant by that word oh yeah but but you just kind of like you know you move
on or sometimes you ask like what what did you mean by that and and and and and broaden your own
vocabulary and horizons yeah this is a big part of this to me Melissa like young people have been
getting away with this uh for generations and and making us feel like we're old and we're not hip
I say we we flip this I say we flip this we start making these words popular in words that they
don't even know I feel like this is what we do as a society the best thing about English James
is that we can just make up words yeah anytime we want it's so sometimes they can mean whatever we want
so true which which is handy and sometimes it's not great all over the board with this one
hey sometimes things get a little zoolified you know they get a little I mean it just happens what
uh stop drinking at work but I don't actually talking about we're going to break we're going to

right story today Melissa in fact we're going to wrap up with some good stories and some local good
stuff going on because it's a Thursday when we meet people in the good mood oh yeah and there's
so much great stuff going on this weekend yeah first I wanted to touch on this study that is
pretty cool and I don't know if you're going to hear about this otherwise the results of a 20-year
study on the American diet have been released and apparently Americans are eating a lot healthier
hey in 1999 49 percent of people said that they had a poor quality diet but now that number has
decreased to just 37 percent that's a 12 percent increase hey the authors of the study considered
that modest improvement or considered that modest improvement because it still means that more
than one in three people have a terrible diet a good quality diet is defined as higher intake of
fruits vegetables whole grains fish nuts seeds and the legumes legumes thank you Melissa beans okay
there we go and lower intake of sugar sweetened beverages processed meats saturated fat and sodium
turns out there's one big detail you need to know the the quality of Americans diets in this study
was self-reported so that is certainly something to keep in mind here okay but how else would you
track it well and I think also it's it's important to note too we tend to be our our biggest our
harshest most harshest critics yeah so I think well some people look at that as saying well
oh people are gonna lie about this and you know and and andbellish I actually think you know maybe
the couple people did that I think the majority of people were probably harder on themselves yeah
or or just blatantly honest right right yeah yeah yeah so there's a positive there everybody
we're getting healthier uh you know we keep this up in the whole uh what all these other
countries to make fun of us uh you know for the what the typical American looks like and all that
they're gonna change that they're gonna change it up well you know our our our views and things
are shifting we're we're moving slow slowly moving away from the higher processed foods because
studies are coming out to show how much they impact our health so eating more who foods going to
our farmers markets which are wonderful and such a great resource in our area um trying to
eat the rainbow you know like every try to the more colors of food that you eat the broader your
intake of nutrients and minerals and all the good things that help us maintain good health
don't tell her I said this but if my mother had told me when I was little Jimmy eat the rainbow
I'd have been so excited I'd have been eating vegetables I'd have been that's a great way to put
that Melissa yeah it doesn't mean skittles although those are also fun in moderation I definitely
would have expected skittles at some point yes but but I would have probably eaten a little bit better
that's really gonna work there that's good one well I can't take credit for it as far as did just
put out a uh a PSA about that which hopefully I'll be able to include in my news tomorrow it's a
great line it's good yeah our good story of the day is blew the coop uh from our Southville County

ticket and take in this movie you're not only going to take in some great entertainment and get to
see some locals on the big screen but all the proceeds from ticket sales benefit the odc that
is so wonderful put on them for doing this many people have heard me take shots or uh
factual shots but shots at our local movie theaters around the country a big shot at the

way to enrich our community and the odc is such an important part of our community uh and
speaking of our community and supporting our community we have the veterans expo and pack act
event uh going on to the toma v a medical center in wood county veteran service offices uh this
is taking place on next Wednesday June 26th from nine to two over across view church at uh
one thousand east riverview expressway right here in rapids yep you can find out about available
benefits and and a lot of good information from the staff that's going to be there uh also that day
from eleven in the noon will be the veterans town hall meeting uh keep that in mind as well uh
encourage you to find out more about this and uh learn about uh not only what's going on for
veterans but this important pack act and and uh the dissecting of that yes yes so many more people
are eligible now to get benefits from that and uh listen i have touched on this a little bit over
the show today you know coming up right around the corner is our big celebration here in america
celebrating democracy celebrating freedom celebrating america's independence with uh independence day
we love our fireworks we love celebrating america and and and that is fantastic but i think one of
the greatest ways you can celebrate america is by celebrating other americans and looking out for them
and that includes our veterans that struggle with PTSD yes and being considerate to our veterans
our good friend tom dropped off some signs over here and these signs say on them combat veteran
lives here please be courteous with fireworks uh and that's it it's just about uh not it's not saying
don't light fireworks it's saying light them at appropriate times uh like not maybe let your
let your neighbor know that you're doing it give them the heads up exactly so that they're not
surprised by it because that's that's how you set off PTSD is by the surprise uh to my understanding
i don't have it i you know i'm so speaking from uh i think that i think that that is a correct
way to put that in Melissa i think and and and and this is one of the literally our veterans
ask nothing of us this is literally one of the least things we can do and one of the most american
things we can do at the same time looking out for our own protecting our own and and and truly
celebrating america a firework is not america okay plus that firework wasn't even made in america
this is a sign note everybody uh that but you know who was made in america our veterans our veterans
mm-hmm so support them uh support them you can pick up one of these signs right here at the studio
