Hour 1: Even Anthropology…We Have it All on This Show

Mornings with WFHR · Wed Jun 5, 2024

Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off

with us right here at 975 FM 1320 AM WFHR, locally grown radio. Got your host, James J.

I am joined by our head of news, our co-host, Melissa K. Good morning. Good morning.

Good morning. Sorry. I forgot to change that back. Oh, that's all right. That's what

you're what was going on. That's all right. We got our head of production and our host

and minister over here. Fixer of all things. I also messed it up. No, well, at least

you had a fix it. Yeah. And the best listeners of radio, thank you all for joining us.

We're going to kick things off with our good friend, Brittany Marlotte. Talk a little

mother nature. Good morning, Britt. Good morning. Hey, question for staff. Can he fix

the weather for us? Yeah. Yeah. Get on. If I had the power to do that, I wouldn't be here.

I'll tell you that much. He'd be stormed. He'd be stormed, basically. Yeah. That'd be

pretty cool. Love it. What needs fixing today? Yeah. What needs fixing today, Brittany?

Why is still raiding here in Lasso? I think you're starting to see a little cock at the

sunshine by you. But as we go through the afternoon, we are going to see more and more

sunshine. It will be pretty nice, breezy this afternoon, when it's gusting up to not

30 miles per hour. But eyes today will climb to the upper 70s, still feeling and hanging

onto that warmth for one more day before the cooler air does take over. However, more

women call them popcorn showers. This is a pop-up, little popcorn kernels across the

states. That'll be again this afternoon and into the evening. Nothing crazy, nothing

strong, severe, but it'll be a little damp in the evening. Yeah. It's done after work,

right? Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We can handle that. We can handle that. We got this.

We got this. Yeah. You stay dry over there, Brittany. We'll get people ready for Thursday

tomorrow. So good. Have a good one. You too. You two, best in the business right there

are friend Brittany Merlot. Yeah. Join us. We always appreciate her time. Appreciate

all y'all joining us. We got great things coming up. The El Café birthday and anniversary

club is around the corner. Oh, we also got a story about a remote tribe that was given

the internet for the first time. And yeah, you can pretty much. Oh, the gods must be crazy.

Yes. Thank you. Nice reference. Nice reference. That's coming up for you a little bit later.

We also have three signs. It's finally time for a new phone. That's coming up for you.

Some entertainment news in the 9 o'clock hour. We'll get into. Oh, we do want to mention

it is a Wednesday. That means, of course, we are going to be joined by our friends at

Quality Plus printing with our wicked awesome word of Wednesday. We're looking forward to

that. That'll be before right after our news break. I would say right around there.

And then the 9 o'clock hour will have some entertainment news as I mentioned. We've got

some fun stuff in there about a couple of different things and some local theater I want

to talk about. All right. All right. And we'll also get into in the 9 o'clock hour, 10

marvels that make people think, who the heck figured that out? Oh, that sounds cool.

It should be interesting. Yeah. Pretty interesting. Yes. Yeah. We will get into all of that.

But two notes I want to start the show off with. One, one of the wish a happy anniversary

to the sunrise show. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. A year ago today, a year ago today, we started

the sunrise show on this country 105, W.I. Year. Crazy. Then of course, change things for

both stations. We used to be with you three hours a day over here at W on the morning

show and had to adjust and change up some things. And while I want to give a big shout

out to this staff and our team, not only the people you hear on these airwaves, but Pam

and Chuck and our engineers at Civic and everybody that makes these things happen, I want

to thank our listeners. Our listeners have really stepped up, have really been active

and really been engaged with us throughout this process. And we really appreciate that.

We can't do this without you. That's right. We, we, the three of us love hanging out

and we would not mind hanging out in the mornings, but it is a lot more fun with all of y'all.

It is a lot more fun. We enjoy working with you all because you guys are a part of this

team and we appreciate the listeners. And of course, our great sponsors out there being

a part of all of these things. So that's great. We appreciate you. We look forward to

talking with you more during our virtual town hall meeting coming up next week. We'll

talk more about that later in the show, but be sure to get me your email addresses so

I can send you the link so you can join our Zoom virtual town hall. Yeah. It's going to

be a lot of fun. You're from you about what you want to hear from us. That's right. Send

me your email at james.mail. That's in the media. You said my email said it. But wait,

that's not. I don't know. I don't know. One way or the other. However, you got to get

us your information. Everybody, please do so. So please do go ahead and get you to help

you be a part of the town hall. It's going to be a lot of fun. Yes, indeed. And a happy

anniversary to the sunrise show and all you listeners out there that help wake us up

in the morning and have some fun with that one. Yeah. I thought we need a we need good

pala cleansers. Good starts to the show, right? Good, good positive things. Well, if a stranger

smiled at you on the street, what would you do? Would you consider that a positive? Would

you consider the good start to the day? Are they waved to you? A stranger waves to you?

These kind of things. I think I've always thought of that as a great way to start the

day, especially since living out here, you see a little bit more of that. Yeah. I think

people wave into people saying hi to random strangers. Yeah. Yeah. Well, a poll for a national

smile month found the average person smiles at a stranger five times a week. Oh, that's

a pretty good. Actually, it's a pretty good number. It's not bad. It's not bad. And being

under. It depends on how many strangers you run into. That's true. And being on the receiving

end of a random smile lifts our spirits for an average of 13 minutes. Wow. Yeah. Now,

that's certainly a little bit less, a little bit more for some. Of course. One in six people

said that they rarely or never return a smile from a stranger often because they're skeptical

about a person's motives. That's the world we live in. You know. Hey, speaking from a

women's perspective, you kind of have to be. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I was not at all going

to jump on that one. If there's, I certainly thought of that right away. In part because

of my sister, my sister is a very, my sister is a living embodiment of that yellow smiley

face. That's Jillian. She's that in cartoon character. That's basically her DNA. But I've

seen plenty of times, especially at the bars or something with her where somebody will

smile, wave to her or something like that. I'll look at her and she looks away. She looks

away. That's the only reason I know it though. So it's from things like that. I think it's

a good note, Melissa. It's also a good note, I think, from Seth. The, the, the, oh, because

because of what he's focusing and thinking of and everything and that this idea, we're

so skeptical of yeah, seems a little cynical on that level. But yeah, for some, it's understood

and, and, and, and I think there's two, you know, two things can be true at once. Absolutely.

Yeah. So cognitive dissidents. Mm-hmm. I love that phrase. Other reasons for not returning

a smile include you're afraid it'll be weird. You're in a rush. You're too embarrassed.

Uh, how about you're not, you're not confident about your smile. I, I would like to put that

one on the list. Um, that's me. I'm not. So I, if I, if I, you don't seem to be smiling

at you, that's chances are that's what it is. But whether it's a stranger or a friend,

seeing someone else smile made the list of the top things that can immediately make you

smile. We got the top 10 for you to kick off the show. All right. Cool. These don't seem

to be in any particular order. So we'll just run through them. Uh, top 10 things that

make you smile. Can I do this like David Letterman? Can I top 10 things that make you smile?

Being on vacation, being on vacation. Is that what you're doing?

Being responsibilities. Sure. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Make me smile. Yeah. It seems like, uh, seems

like something that you guys, uh, and other people seem to enjoy. Yeah. I just try to

one of these days, James. Mm-hmm. We're going to actually make you follow through and

take that dang vacation. I think that that's a great idea. Um, and I also think that

it's probably going to, you're probably definitely going to need to do that too. And then

you'll smile a lot more. You can change the locks to the doors. Yeah. Yes. And then you'll

see yourself. No James allowed. Yeah. This is a door of a sign. There's no James club.

Yeah. I was going to say like that little club sides for kids. Well, just for a week.

Yeah. It's for a week. Waking up to a sunny day can make us smile as well. Yeah. Yeah.

I could see that. Absolutely. Receiving it. We're waking up to a rainy day if that's your

thing. Right. Yeah. Cause that makes me smile. I do like that. I do like waking up in the

first thing I hear is a rainboard. That is nice. It's not rainy night. Mm-hmm. Receiving

a kind gesture. Mm-hmm. Uh, anytime I, I don't care how much of a rush I'm in or what's

going on. I have somebody hold a door open for me. I take the moment to me at least look

them in the eye. At least look them in the eye. You give me a head nod. You know, I always

get to thank you in, but you get the head nodded and there's a good one. Um, but those

kind of things are what make this world move. If you ask me, the little thing, strangers

helping strangers, that kind of stuff. I love those kind of things. And I got that actually

from Chicago. I don't think a lot of people would realize that, but it's on their B side.

It's, but give a receiving receiving a kind gesture is a wonderful act. It's a really

long song title. Um, I love their lesser known songs. Chicago, for me, growing up there,

the busyness was, you know, just every day. Um, and I got used to it. I really quick as

a kid. But one of the things that always stood out to me is no matter how much of rush

things were, how things were, how crazy or big of a city or how nuts it could get in

that town. Um, it, there were still this Midwest class to them. The 99% of the people that

I ran into and I, I was around and everything holding the door open, holding the elevator

door open. Uh, I, I saw so many times growing up, somebody grabbing a cab for somebody,

uh, things like that. So I, that all stems from that. And I just was able to enhance it

out here a lot more. Sure. Someone else smiling at you made the list at number four.

Number five, hearing good news about a loved one. Yeah. Yeah. That should do it. Definitely

should do it. Making someone else laugh or grin. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That's a good feeling.

That's always fun. There's, there's very few things that feel better. Yeah. Yeah. Getting

a surprise gift. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I could see that. I, I gotta say though, that would be

extremely low on my list. I, I, if anything, I get a little uncomfortable sometimes with

gifts. Um, I don't really, I don't care. I don't care if it's my birthday. I feel like

I should be getting the other person something. I, I, I don't know. It's a weird part of

my brain. It doesn't make sense. But, uh, well, for James, you just got to get him little

things like when Melissa bottom his car. Yeah. I do love that car. I do love that car.

It's a little car. Yes. It's, it's a, uh, what are those matchbox cars? Yeah. Yeah. Just

for the audience, I am not wealthy. I can afford a $1.99 car. Yes. That's true. Do you

like the idea of somebody out there? Like, wow, she got a car. Yeah. What's she doing

with the radio? Wow. Really pretty good. It's a pretty good front, right? Yeah. It's

a, um, I, speaking of things that make me smile, all the stuff on my desk up there. That's

all there to make me smile. Yeah. Exactly. I mean, smiles and everything. Those are good

things. Yeah. Uh, winning money. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I would say it's true. Uh,

but that, that doesn't last very long. No, it is the first rush of the, you know, winning

a couple of bucks is good. You know, but then you're like, eh, it seems fleeting. I should

say, I never really would, but I don't know what I mean either. I know what you mean.

I can win $20 and freak out. Oh my God. Well, or, or if you find, you know, the $20 bill

that was in your pocket and you didn't know was there, that is awesome. Yeah. Pull an

old coat out. They haven't worn it a long time and there's five bucks in it. Yeah. That

five feels like 500. It does. Yes. That's such a good feeling. I almost, I, again, I

haven't won a whole lot of money, but I almost gather that that's just as good of a feeling

as scratching off that lottery ticket and getting a big win. It's gotta be. I gotta think

it's pretty close. Uh, receiving a thank you at number nine. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sure.

It's always nice. One of the better feelings. Um, I would say, especially when you don't

expect it. Yeah. That is really, that is really at its heart. There's a surprise factor

in a lot of these that if you're not expecting it, it feels that much better. Yeah.

Spending time outside in the sun wraps up the top 10. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

A bit of sunshine anytime of the year. Uh, it's always feeling good. A few more that just

miss the top 10 running into an old friend looking at old photographs, watching funny videos

online, hearing a baby laugh, finding money in your pocket, huh? Oh, oh, oh, there we go.

And hearing a song that you really love. Oh, uh, for, for the top of the list for Beth,

seeing babies. Yeah. Oh my gosh. She gets a certain look on it. So like, say you're like

facing her and all of a sudden, she sees up behind you. And she has this look on her

face. I know exactly what she's looking at. She's seen a baby. Yeah. I love making people

laugh of all ages and everything, but there is nothing like making a baby laugh. Oh, it's

so great. Nothing in the world. Yeah. Yeah. The laughter of a child. Baby is too much. It's

amazing. Uh, hearing a song that you really love. I agree with that. But it's, it's times

10 when it just happens to come up on the radio. When it's random. Yeah. You can pick it.

Yeah. Exactly. That makes it better. Right. Because now we have the option to listen to any

song any time, basically. Right. And that kind of takes a little bit of the fun out of it.

I, uh, I, I, I had a student rushing in, uh, once, uh, it was a big day that we had going

on and everybody needed to be on time. And this student was late. And, and right away, she's

like, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. But there was a song on the radio. I'm like, what song was it?

Oh, it was, uh, uh, uh, Led Zeppelin Rock and Roll. Like, aren't you all right?

Oh, it's just like, yeah. Now she had said something by, oh, I don't know.

I was listening to the Backstreet Boys. Like, what? No, no, no, you're out. You are out. I'm

sorry. You're going to have to come back tomorrow. We're going to come back tomorrow.

We will, uh, take a quick time out with our partners. We'll come back with the LKFA

birthday anniversary club. No, forget quality plus printing is going to join us a little bit

later with our Wicked Also Warned Owens Day right here on the morning show.

Welcome back, everybody. It's time for the LKFA birthday and anniversary club.

even more interesting is on Friday, a French toast combo that they have. And, and Sunday, a Nutella

cream cheese crepe crepe combo. Oh, wow. Oh, crepes are good. I think it's crepes, guys.

Is it crepes? I've always I think she's right. I think it's crazy crepes, but it's actually crepes.

I prefer crepes. I gotta get that right. All right. Well, we get on over to LKFA. However,

you say it. Yeah, that's right. And order one and see how they say it. But it's tasty. It's

going to be good. It's going to be good. That's the best part. It doesn't matter what you call.

It's still going to taste good. Enjoy some great food and great people over at LKFA. Everybody.

And get us those birthdays and anniversaries. We love celebrating with you info at WFHR.com.

James. mail up at civic media.us. Keep in mind you can reach out to any of our staff using that

little format right there. Melissa.k at civic media.us. That's dot have aggregates. civic media.us.

That kind of thing. I'm not going to tell you the spell it though. Yeah, good luck.

It's a guess. Good luck. Wing it. Wing it. And see who gets the email.

That's it. Some set of email roulette. Whole bag or a whole whole tag.

Oh, I've heard it all, man. I've heard it all. Yeah, with mail off, I hear you.

But however you're going to do it, get us those birthdays and anniversaries, everybody.

And of course, feel free to call up. Mm-hmm. It's right. 715-424-2600.

And you can do it live on air. Yeah, it's pretty fun to be able to do it that way. So feel free to.

We have five possible qualifiers. Whoa, that's awesome. Wow. Give me a one through five, Seth.

Four. Four neglected four. Yeah, if I favor the number there, we know for it is.

And that gives us our qualifiers. So we can get right into the celebrating.

And first up, we actually want to wish a happy 53rd anniversary to Rob and Rosie.

Shaq Shaq. Shaq Ha. They're 25th anniversary. They're silver anniversary.

Oh, awesome. Congratulations. They both grew up in Nikusa, now reside in Birmingham, Alabama.

Oh, very cool. Shout out to them. Yeah, hopefully they're enjoying the south down there.

25 years. 25th anniversary. Yeah, that's pretty cool. Happy anniversary, you two. We wish you the

best of days. We do. Taking a look at our list here, we also want to wish a happy anniversary

to Elliot and Jesse Wurt. Oh, happy anniversary. And Jesse, happy anniversary. Yeah, that goes

together. Good Elliot and Jesse. That's good. That sounds good. That's good. Happy anniversary to

we wish you a great one. We also want to wish happy birthday to a couple of friends of ours

here at the station. First off, Jordan Bay. Oh, happy birthday, Jordan.

Jordan's joined us on directors. Cut. He's joined us on our morning show a couple of times.

We love working with him. Love hearing him. Great artist. Super talented, great guitarist, singer,

songwriter. He's written some great songs. Yeah, yeah. Jordan's one of those ones I wouldn't be

surprised to hear on the radio anytime, not just our stations. A lot of that. And all those

things being said, great guy. Great guy. He is super nice. With that talent, you know,

to be that great of a guy, yeah, that's cool. That's cool. We wish you a good one. Jordan and

Joel, you're a day. We also want to wish a very happy birthday to Katie Minch. Happy birthday,

Katie. Katie. I believe newly married Katie. Yes. Yes. Yes. I didn't want to. I think her last

name is Chatech now. Yeah, that's right. I was I didn't I was going to say it, but I didn't know.

And I'm like, well, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, go ahead. Katie, happy birthday. Yeah. Congratulations,

too. Yeah. Oh, for their wedding. Yeah. Muzzle Toff to Ben and Katie. Yeah. If they

ain't one of your favorite couples, then you do not know who Ben and Katie. That's right. That's

the only way it is not the case. Fabulous. Yep. Otherwise known as heartstrings. Yes. That's

right. Katie, and I got to work a little bit together. We're going to do cabaret together.

And that's how I met her. And the little bit we worked together, the one rehearsal we had,

audition we had. Wow. I was so excited to work with her. And we've we've talked about this

for years. We have to work together sometime. She is so darn tough. Yeah. She's it's yeah,

she has a beautiful voice. She is an original beautiful voice. Like you hear her and you know

that's Katie. Yeah. That's that's so unique to me. I don't understand or know singing nearly

as well as some people do. But to me, that's one of those things that really stands out is when

you have such a unique voice and original voice. And she definitely does. Yep. Happy and a birthday

and happy, you know, you know, congratulations. Congratulations. Congratulations. Yes, indeed.

We also want to wish a happy birthday to Laurelene. Get's off. Get's off. Happy birthday,

Laurelene. Happy birthday, Laurelene. Laurelene is a beautiful name. I love that day. I don't know

why there isn't more Laurelene's around that because that's a beautiful name. And we wish you a great

day, Laurelene. And we wish a happy birthday to our qualifier, Becky Kurt, Crenz. Oh, happy

birthday, Becky. Becky Crenz, K-R-E-N-Z Crenz. I think I got Crenz, I think that sounds right.

Becky, we wish you a great one. Hope it's a good day for you and you're our qualifier for today.

Nice. All right. We take a look at our celebrity list. Mike Fisher is 44. Carry

Underwood's hockey husband. He last played for Nashville before retiring in 2018. Okay. All right.

But yeah, let's see here. Now he's Mr. Underwood. Yes. Yes. Yes. Which I wouldn't mind that. No,

if I was him, I'd be walking around handing out business cards with that name. Yeah. Yeah.

Pete Wentz is 45. Fallout boy basis who is married to Ashley Simpson. Or they were married.

They're divorced now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I keep it up with his celebrity weddings. I guess not.

I guess not. Yeah. Since 2011, get with it. Wow. Well, in my defense, I run burgundy.

That they just said it in the article. It says Fallout boy basis who married Ashley Simpson.

I just I was even included that. Yeah. Yeah. Because I could care less you have

it. Yeah. Yeah. I just I don't know why I did that. That's all right.

I sell for it up. Nick Kroll is 46 star Netflix's adult animated show Big mouth and many,

many other shows. He was on the league. He was one of the big stars of the league that TV show

on FX for a while. Nick Kroll is so darn talented. He could do drama, but he is so made for comedy.

And has such a fearless kind of approach to it that I really appreciate and enjoy.

He was really good on he's had a guest spot on what we do in the shadows a couple times.

And it just just steals the show to steal scenes from these guys. Very cool.

One of the things that stands out to me about Nick Kroll or two things that really do is is one

he even among really, really talented and funny people stands out. And so many people want to

work with him. So many people will either write a role or find a role where we can fit Nick in

here. This is one of those guys people really like to work with and stuff. Yeah.

To me, that's the, that's almost a perfect career. Like Nick Kroll could walk into a

most rooms and a lot of people aren't going to know who he is. They're not going to know who he is.

But he is, I mean, he is not going to stop working anytime soon. He's got work coming for

years and years. Mark Wahlberg is 53 today. Mark Mark. Highest paid actor in 2017 earned

68 million that year. Wow. Yeah. And really has been a little bit downhill since then as far as

the getting work and how could you continue to top that? Well, and this is the thing too. So

Mark, you marked that year. Did daddy's home too? Transformers the last night, all the money in

the world. Did a hundred a couple of other things too that move that year. But when you do that,

when you don't say no to anything, the audience starts saying no to you. And they stop seeing it

never too much. That's happened to Jude Law had happened to a couple of actors in recent history

and everything. But he's done a movie every year for the last several. Yeah. He's still around.

Yeah. This is the thing. They look at this as something that is a negative. I'll take that.

Right. I'll take that negative. Yeah. Right. Right. You could take it easy.

Well, and again, he's another aging action star. He can't do quite what he used to.

You know, so again, you know, he's got to be more choosy with his roles.

Brian McKnight is 55 R&B superstar back at one and some other great hits he's had. Oh my gosh.

Yeah. Great singer name. I haven't heard in a long time.

It's always seemed like a good interview to him from what I saw. Ron Livingston is 57 superstar

a two bona fide cult classics. He is, of course, Peter Gibbons and office space and the lead actor

in office space and Robin Swingers, which is an underrated role. God, I love that movie.

That was that was that was so money on that. Oh, nice. That's it. That's the cult classic about that.

Yeah. Let's see here. And Jeff Garland is 62 today. The dad on the Goldbergs,

also Larry David's manager on Jeff on Curb your enthusiasm.

Mm-hmm. Kenny G is 68. Good old Kenny. The G stands for Gorillac. Not gorgeous,

which a lot of people would consider his hair gorgeous. Yes. Oh, yeah.

I see why he dropped the everything else with G that worked out for him really well.

It really worked out as much as people might make fun of or might make take shots or whatever

at that. Nobody is laughing more than Kenny G. All the way to the bank. Not only to the bank,

but a very very self-deprecating, very self-deprecating guy. He does a set a long time interview on

Dan Levittar show a show that I watch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All things. And he does these weird

bits with Dan just for free, just for the heck of it. Just because it's fun. He enjoys it and stuff.

That's hilarious. I like anybody that could take a shot at themselves. And if you are a fan of

jazz like I am, you and I don't own any Kenny G songs and probably never will. I don't listen to them.

But as a lover of jazz music, I'm a big fan of Kenny G because he helped keep the music going

since in many ways in the 90s and stuff. Fabulously talented. No question about that. Incredible

Elkosa player. Incredible at it. And just a natural talent. Yeah. One of those guys from

a very young age was incredibly good at what he does. Let's see here. And that's going to do it

for our list. That is going to do it for our list. Oh, wow. Wait, wait. I did want to mention Bill

Moyer. Bill Moyers is 90 today. American journalist journalistic legend. Wow. He's 90. Yeah.

Oh, I'm a big fan of Bill Moyers. Me too. One of my favorite things about PBS is their news.

And I've always enjoyed his work, his journalism. Yes. Great, great, great, our great journalist.

That's going to do it for our list. But one more time, I want to wish everybody up there. Happy

birthday and anniversary that sent us those. Give them to us more everybody. We love celebrating

with you. We do. And wish a good morning to our friends over at Elkhafe. They're open right now.

Go visit them at two twenty one market avenue and beautiful poor deadwoods. Wish them a great day

from all of us at WFHR. Welcome back everybody. Morning show at WFHR locally grown radio.

Melissa, Seth and James here with you. We're going to be joined by Phil Hartley from Quality

Plus Printing any moment. Looking forward to getting our wicked awesome word of Wednesday.

Indeed. Big shout out to our friends at Quality Plus Printing. Good morning to all of them.

A little bit later in the show, we will get into this remote tribe that was given the internet

for the first time. We're going to dive into that one. Okay. But we got to get into this right here.

Who is going to take out the garbage? If there is one chore, you can count on millennials to do.

It's throwing out the trash. Oh, wow. And not in the actual taking out the garbage sense in the

different sense in a survey on sustainability. Americans were asked to give themselves a grade

for their effort to be environmentally friendly, specifically by reducing reusing and recycling in

the kitchen. Okay. Only 11% of Americans would give themselves a plus. Well, 23% of people

would give themselves a C or lower. Wow. Millennials were the generation most likely to give themselves

a plus. But they're also the group that averages the most trash. The average millennial throws 15

things away per day compared to the overall average of 12. Oh, it's possible that millennials are

just being better at decluttering the things that aren't bringing them joy. And the survey was

geared around reducing waste. Okay. Overall, 77% of people say that they are trying to be as

wasteless as possible. That's good. That's really cool. Yeah. And certainly, I think we could lean on

that these numbers could always be better. And that these numbers will be forced to get better

if we do not start taking care of this planet. That's an excellent point. Has nobody seen Mad Max?

Nobody. Geez. Are they somehow still have gas, though? That's the one thing I don't understand.

In hairspray. How do they have hairspray? And they can shave. Like they, they, they, they, they, they,

they've got to style in their beard. Hair dye, aquanette. These are some of the things that will

survive the apocalypse. We just didn't know that. Yeah. Yeah. And there'll be a thunder dome.

There will be a thunder dome. Some kind of thunder dome. Yes. Can we just get beyond thunder dome?

But no, no, we can't. Tina told us. No idea what you guys are. And you're better.

Folks, people probably don't know. So apologize to that. Apologize.

Apologize. When it, when it comes to something like this, though, I, I hope that people read this

can do two things at once. Hey, hey, these numbers could be worse. That's pretty cool. And

we can do better. Let's try a little harder. We can do better. Part of the, part of the problem

with trying to be better. And it's something that I think millennials, because those are the ones

with the better numbers, right? Yes. Yep. Or worse numbers. Hire numbers. We're, we notice it more.

Or they notice it more. They're more aware of how many things you throw away in a day. But

oftentimes you have really no other choice. It's true. All of the superfluous packaging that

comes and things we buy. You get a package of something and it's wrapped in plastic twice.

Is that necessary? Do we really need to do that? Are there ways that we can reuse the packaging?

I read about this a long time ago. So I'm probably not going to get the country right. But it's

one of the Nordic countries. And the packaging of the items in the store, you take it out of the

package before you leave the store and you leave the package there and they reuse it. Oh, wow.

That's interesting. How cool would that be? Yeah, we could use more of that.

Absolutely. Finding new ways to do that. I actually, I think that that, I mean, that's an option.

Really, there should be nothing that isn't on the table as far as options when it comes to this.

Again, this is an important one, everybody. Yes. There is no, the things that are happening to our

environment haven't, they don't have an R or a D in front of their name. They're just happening.

And while they continue to happen and we continue to bicker, this just continues to happen.

So we need to get along better on this stuff and find some common ground. I think one of the

more common thing, common grounds that most of us can find with each other is the encouragement

of this and the act that we can do better, we can be better at this. And calling out other

companies and calling out other places. And I also call upon the innovators out there.

I watched a documentary a little while ago, a while back about the cookie wars when those were

first starting out. And the big thing that changed for Nabisco for these companies was being able

to figure out the packaging. Right. And they used to just send cookies across the country in a

barrel. And like the bottom half of the cookies would, they were done in sex or different things.

Yeah. Yeah. So they figured out how to send things and stuff. Let's figure this out.

If I'm an innovator out there, I'm challenged by this. I want to figure this out. I want to make

so that the packaging situation like Melissa is talking about, why don't we figure out a way to

package things individually or specifically or sending them things in bundles more or whatever

it takes. I'm not the innovator. They're out there. You get it done. That's right. And also calling

out the corporations that are the biggest part of the problem. Absolutely. That's the

raw part of it. You're right. You don't just have a vote on elections. You have a vote with your

dollar and you can choose where to spend that. And these corporations are ones that a lot of us

are choosing not to. Corporation that we do subscribe to. We do appreciate. We do love very

much and innovators over there are friends over at Quality Plus Printing. Joining us every Wednesday

with our wicked awesome word of Wednesday. We say good morning to Phil Hartley.

Hey, good morning. We're in like an ass corporation. I think it's what we're labeled at.

That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Service corporation. Yes. Service corporation.

A follow guy. It big in our hearts though, Phil. We appreciate you guys over there. Before we

get our wicked awesome word of Wednesday, I want to remind everybody we're calling all heroes.

Yeah. It's your name, son. Yeah. We actually picked the next one. So I'm going to be

getting the word to you this week. Excellent. All right. All right. I'm very cool.

I'm another hero tuned out there and I'm going to make it a regular thing here. A little bit of

spinning the wheels at the beginning to get this going. But yeah. On our end, not on people coming

to. We appreciate everybody nominating these names. You can nominate them and go ahead and take

you Phil. Let them know how they can nominate people and where they can send names.

Sure. So just give us a call. You're seven one five four two three seven four four zero or

get on our website. It meant in link off of there. Which is of course,

we call it plus printing dot com, a whamnink dot com. Either one. And or just text our messages.

So, you know, over the internet as well. So any or call you guys, right? Yep. Yeah. We'll

take it and we'll make sure to get it to you. Mm hmm. Yeah. That's it. It's been good so far.

Keep it coming. Good to hear. Phil, what is our wicked awesome word of Wednesday?

Oh, yeah. Here we go. So this is I think it has Spanish backgrounds to it. I'm Portuguese.

Duende Duende.

D-E-N-D-E that's found Duende. And it just means the power attractive personal magnetism or charm.

Ooh. Nice. Oh yeah. That's a good one. That's a good one.

Yeah. It helps a lot of me too. I was just looking down to it this morning. That's

I picked the word, but it has I think in Spanish. I mean, I should be the ghost.

I was going to say, because I've heard I haven't heard I haven't met a lot of Portuguese people,

but a friend of mine growing up was from Puerto Rican family. And they used I swear they used this

word from time to time, but I don't think it was used in that way. I think it was more in the

ghost ways. Cool. Yeah. Yeah. That's interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. I mean, I was looking

to send them to lower charm. Hmm. Magic. Right. Yeah. There you go. That's the stuff.

To Zazz. That's a good word for me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We haven't done that one yet.

Yeah. Yeah. Mark. Do that next week. Put that one away. Mark that one. Note that. Yeah.

That is a great one, Phil. We appreciate it. Appreciate the word as always. Before we let you go,

I want to know how things are going at the shop. What are some of the projects you guys are working on?

Yeah. Now I'm doing well. I guess I'm on new local businesses to start. Not sure if they've

been doing some business cards and some new menus are actually a restaurant opening and point.

So I've been this morning because they've seen some of our work and some local restaurants here.

And then of course, we have Tracy here being the goddess of all designers. She's amazing.

Inside me and that office and she says a great job. So a lot of the local menus that you see out

in our community and now in some other communities that we're designed by Tracy and printed by us

of course. So that's always great work. And again, a lot of work for the summer. The

Raptors gearing up. Of course, we're there for a set of games. We do their programs. We do all

the banners, most of them anyway and some other signs with some help with some other local

companies. And so they keep us busy all the baseball season. And of course, all the

happening over the summer keep us busy too with the posters and raffle tickets. A plenty for

all the local sports teams and trying to raise money for their causes. So happy to, happy to

help with that. Very cool. And always good talking with you Phil. Looking forward to you joining us

next Wednesday. And we'll talk off air about the hero situation. We'll make sure to get them

on the air with us and everything as well. Yeah. You have to say hi to everybody over there for us,

Phil. Wish them a great day. And we'll talk to you soon. Yeah, keep you in Dwenday. Yeah,

you as well. Yeah, it's Wednesday. That's such a good word.

Yeah, it works out. Yeah. We'll be back with more fun on the morning show here at WFHR.

Mm-hmm. Welcome back everybody. Morning show here at WFHR.

Sweet soul of Marvin Gaye to play us in. We hope you're having a good one out there. Melissa,

Seth and James here with you.

Ooh, that's cowbell in that. Love it. Love this song. Let's go ahead and get to a call or good

morning. What's on your mind? That's good morning guys. Can I want to go back to your comments

and discuss for Adam before you guys had to fill on with packages? Mm-hmm. Yeah. I got a little

inside out a lot of this. You know, haven't you guys ever watched AIDS Venture Effect Detective?

Yes, yes. You can't reuse factors like that. Yeah. Yeah.

You don't. Great reference. Great reference.

It's good. And the way people pack things nowadays, you almost, you know, or like,

you should say, some of them deliver good. Not me. Not me. I do live or treat everything like it's

mine. But, um, some of the packaging, you know, we do get from our shippers. They try to

pack a hundred pounds and do a 45-pound box. But by the time we get it, it's trashed anyways.

Sometimes, you know, if you want to try to do the reuse thing, it's kind of impossible.

I mean, it comes down to, and I think, and when you guys are kind of talking about maybe, you know,

certain laws are trying to work together on this, there's got to be more education on it.

More education on what, how to package. And I mean, I try to do it as much as I can as a

days of driver, you know, I try to educate the, the shippers or even other people on the packaging

end of it. And it comes down to common sense is what it comes down to. And, um, but yeah, it's tough

sometimes, especially like I said, when you, you have some of these, uh, companies that just

decided because they're gonna make keep a cheap and use cheap packing that you just can continue

having these recycling issues and, and other issues you have with, what are some of this stuff?

Yeah, yeah. Because shippers not better.

Kev, when you say educating people, what's one of the things or some of the things that you're

saying, you're trying to get out there to people to know, uh, maybe there's stuff that we can

let our audience know? Well, it just, it comes down to is, you know, when you like say, like I said,

if you have a hundred pound, uh, a piece that you need to ship out, think about how you get

packing and pack it in a flimsy box. Right. Or you're going to try to, or pack it into a, uh,

have your cardboard or, or figure a ways to make it more, where it's not going to get damaged

within shipping or things like that. Cause, um, a lot of the trucks that like we have and other

companies have, they're not perfect. They have leaks, you know, they do get water at home and it's

just because of the abuse that these trucks take. And they just got to think about how you're

packaging it. And then if they say if you're going to send it into an envelope or the plastic,

you know, make sure you, it would grant you, yeah, you can lick the, lick the envelope closed,

but that always not going to keep it closed. You got to, you should always put an extra piece of

tape on it. Yeah. It'll keep us keep everything secure. So people, like I thought people,

you just got to think about how would you like to see the package. Right. And Carol, you know,

right, when it gets to, um, I know it's just us delivery drivers make, you know, make jokes about

all fragile. He's a friend for kick it around, you know, you know, it's a good joke. That's good.

But it's, it's just, it's just, yeah, you got to, you hate to use that word common sense,

but just, no, I think about, you know, down the road of how, I mean, how many times it changes

hands, it goes into my truck. And someone turns around and takes it out of my truck, and then they

put it onto another truck, they go to another, you know, so it could get touched for five times

before it actually gets to the consumer. Right. It feels like one of the things that would help

with this is for companies to not just think of who's getting the package, but who's delivering the

package. Right. Uh, and put, take more consideration for that. Right. Um, the, in between part of this,

the middle man of this and everything. Uh, it, it, it, it, only in benefits to everybody,

them, the consumer, and certainly our drivers out there. Uh, it's something that I don't think

a lot of us think about very often, though. That's a great note there, Kevin. I really do

appreciate the comment. Hey, you have a great morning. Be safe travels out there.

All right, you guys have a great day. We'll talk soon. We'll talk soon.

Best listeners in radio. Thank you so much for joining us, everybody.

Phone lines are always open for you. Seven one five four two four twenty six hundred four two four

twenty six hundred. It's a professional insight there. That was really cool. Yeah.

Join the conversation with the civic media. Download the app, everybody. You want that app.

You want that app. You want to win. You want that. You want to win our, our, our text to win

contest. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. So many great prizes in that thing. And I thought about

quitting just to play that contest. That's a great contest right there. Uh, we're going to wrap up the

hour talking about phones here, but I want to let you know we'll kick off the nine o'clock hour

talking a bit of entertainment. We're going to not only talk about your big screen, your small screen,

but what's new coming up on your theater stages, as well as where we will be this Thursday. We'll

talk about that coming up. And in the nine o'clock hour, we'll also get into 10 marvels that make

people think, who the heck figured that out? And we will get into this tribe that got the internet

and what happened. Uh, we'll get to when I want to have some time for that one. We're going to

need a little more anthropology. We even have on the show. We got everything. We covered all. We do.

Do you always wanted the newest, do you always want the newest phone? Or are you still rocking that

old iPhone five? Uh, because it's fully, it isn't fully broken yet. Well, here are an experts,

top three signs. It's finally time to buy a new phone. It flips. No,

more power to you, more power to you. Uh, technological advancements. Does the new,

the new model offer a substantial boost over your current device, like a much better camera? Uh,

that's a good reason to buy, but it's not a huge upgrade. You might want to keep waiting.

Um, software updates, running newer software on an old phone can make it actually move slower.

And eventually old phones can't even get those updates. For example, iPhone 10s are the oldest

model that can run on the new iOS 17. Mm hmm. And what condition is it in? Is your screen

shattered? Uh, does your battery die every few hours? It might be time to finally pull the trigger

to buy a new one. Um, now I feel like a lot of this stuff, it may be not that the, uh, put word

it this way, but all of this stuff going back to a phrase that a kev wrote up, common sense.

It seems pretty common sense a lot about a lot of this. But, uh, they are, I believe that they

are pricing themselves out of the market, the, the phone industry. Um, very similar to some other

fields and other things out there. Um, people are pushing back on this and where up to, not even

let less than like three, five years ago, uh, people were waiting in line for these phones. And you're

still going to see this, but you're going to notice more and more of those lines are smaller.

Yeah. Those lines are getting a lot shorter. But James, Mr. new phone has got titanium in it. James,

they got titanium. It's got to go. Go James. I don't ever want a new volume. If I'm being perfectly

honest, I don't want this one to work forever because I know how to use it. I know how to navigate

through, you know, the different pages that it has or whatever. And, and it's got all my stuff

on it. Yeah. I don't want to ever have to get a new phone. That's one of the worst things about

getting a new phone. Having to redo everything, learn the whole new system and figuring out what

apps you need and all that. You all are crazy. Did you hear it? Cytitanium people. Come on.

I mean, how much is that going to help me with my phone? Why, why are we building phones without

titanium? Because it's so much better. Yeah. I mean, because tight, let me look into this real

quick because titanium is definitely going to help in my service, right? Yeah. No, no, no, it

doesn't. Oh, okay. Well, titanium is definitely going to make it just cost a lot less in

healthy environment. Certainly. Whoa. Oh, wow. Actually, the opposite. Oh, wow. Okay.

Yeah. There's another thing that we got to like quit tinkering with this. I know we all know

why they do it. Why they keep upgrading? Why they keep kicking out new phones? But I, I feel

like not only is that lame and we kind of see what they're doing, but it's, it's the exact opposite

of what the eye industry was. Like, they were innovators. They were supposed to be game changers

and doing different things. Instead, all they do is look, there's an extra camera on your phone now.

Ooh. That was just about money, money, money and waste, waste, waste. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

I'm, I'm so with you on this Melissa. If this is the last phone I ever buy, I will be one of the

happiest people under the sun. I would love nothing. No, but that is so fantasy. So sad. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Never going to happen. It is. I'm going to try to take care of this thing.

Uh, yeah, try to keep it as long as you can, man. I'm not going to try. Never should die.

My last one as long as I could. It literally died. And Ryzen told me, oh, sorry, we can't do

anything for you. Then she buried it. No, no, no, no, no, it buried it in a drawer.

All of my other old folks. Yeah. It's very full of graveyard. It's buried in memories.

Many of us have one. We will take time out. We'll come back after our news break with some fun.

We got a lot of great things lined up for you in the nine o'clock hour. It's Melissa,

Seth and James. Take you to through your morning here at WFHR.
