Five confirmed tornadoes across Wisconsin on Tuesday night. Five. Do you know that?
Hmm. And another respond. Cheers. Yeah. So none of those today. No, we don't have to worry about any of those today.
No, no, that is long gone in the distance. We've got nothing but sunshine. Grab both sunglasses and soak it up
because today's fantastic last day of the week, actually. Oh, nice. Oh, does that mean a bad weekend?
All right. All right. We've got we've got a home improvement project going. So I'm stuck inside anyway. So lay it on me.
Yeah. So today we're going to climb to those mid to upper 70s sunny, beautiful, much calmer winds than yesterday.
Tomorrow, though, we do have more rain showers and thunderstorms arriving by the afternoon and through the evening,
putting down a good dumping another quarter of an inch to three quarters of an inch of rain as possible.
Then we dry out for Saturday and we've got another system headed our way for Sunday and Monday.
It's going to be pretty wet out there as well. So today, Saturday, the days that you want to be outside.
Okay. Good to know. I do have a very technical question for you. Where are we supposed to go with all this rain?
Yeah. Where do we go? I mean, like my, my yard's pretty squishy. It's not, it's not going anywhere. It's just hanging around.
You mean what do we do outside, right? So what you're asking me? Yeah. Well, where are we supposed to go with all this water?
Yeah. Now, we're pretty lucky in this area here, at least in central Wisconsin, we've got a lot of sand area.
See, we're heavy play where I live. So it is literally sitting on top of our yard. Like I walked out last this morning.
And like my, my boots that I had on are like in water.
You are missing a golden opportunity. You freeze that, pull out some skates and get on the ice.
That's what my dad would do. Get on the ice. You know, I was going to say you got the right idea.
Yes, mud boots. All right. Fair enough. Yeah. That's probably a better idea.

They're not only still making them. They got a new flavor coming out.
Oh, no, really? I thought they were just blue and red.
I always thought they're only blue. That's all I could decide is blue or red. That's all I ever remember the best thing.
You know where they have them that kids like really all of a sudden, you know, rediscovered them kind of like,
is that the movie theater? Oh, yeah. And my kids love that. I've heard that.
I love those things. I would go to I would I would go.
And do you mean, okay, let's just assume there's only red and blue. I know you got something new coming.
But do you make would you mix them or do them separate because they let you pour your own?
I want to shout out my little sister because she thought of that. I never thought of it.
I got to give her credit. Oh, you never thought of mixing.
I always got a blue one. She always got a red one. One day, she's like, we should mix.
And we made a we got a cup of side and mixed it. It was really good.
Those are great. We're going to talk about that a little bit later.
It's a Thursday. So, of course, we will kick off the 9 o'clock hour with our pet of the week from our friends at the South of County of Maine Society.

Terry always like to kick things off talking a little united way. It is a great time of year for you guys.
It's summer and you bring out some of your best events this time of year.
We have a lot going on in starting the week after school. Let's out.
We will have our great book giveaway, which is a series of reading in the park events that will run for a little over a week.
I think they're all falling one week except for Vesper. We do the following week because it coincides with their kick off to their summer library summer reading program.
So, it's a great way to, you know, get an engaging audience.
So, looking forward to that, you can see the full schedule by visiting our website, www.swac.org.
That schedule also is headed home with all elementary age students in our area here so that you know when those are.
30 minute events come here a few stories read to the kids and then they get to pick books to take home, keep forever.
Or as long as they're useful to them and then they can donate them back, pass them on to another another child.
But it's a great way to just make sure kids have some some excitement around reading for summer.
So, so that's definitely I'm going on and then also a little bit later in June is our is our United We Can food sculpture contest on June 18th.
Looking forward to that, we will be at the rafters building food sculptures from 10 to 4 and then those will be on display during the game for folks who want to come check that out.
We encourage you to get tickets for the 18th and join us for this this fun event.
We have eight teams that will be building food sculptures and then also our friends from McMillan Library.
They always come for the the pre game and they will build something whatever they can do and prompt you with the food items that are donated by people who are coming to the game.
So, if you have game tickets for June 18th, we encourage you to bring a non-perishable food item as a donation to add to the United We Can food that is leveraged.
That food is then distributed the next day to local food programs in southwood and Adams counties, which is our service area.
And we also have an opportunity to do a collection during the game. We call it Miracle Minute where we just pass buckets and you can throw in a couple bucks.
And the fun part about that is that all of the dollars leveraged from that also gets to food programming so that they can, you know, maybe purchase things that they're low on or, you know, or other staples that might be needed at their food pantry or their meal site or whatever food program it is that they're that they're doing.
So, that's kind of, you know, June, our big events for June, we also are currently accepting registrations for stuff the desk.
This is free school supplies for students. If you are a family that qualifies for free and reduced lunch, you also qualify for free school supplies.
This is serving the schools in the southwood county area. So, Wisconsin Rapids, private and parochial, Port Edwards, Nicosa. So, we encourage you to sign your children up.
This is a drive-through distribution event that happens in August.
And we encourage you to register early because then you get to pick your time slot, okay, of when you pick up.
So, you should do that by visiting our website also, www.swac.org.
And the other, you know, the companion piece to this is school supply drives.
So, school supplies are popping up in the stores. I know people don't want to hear that because school is not out yet, but they are starting, excuse me, starting to pop up.
So, I encourage you if you are able, you know, when you're out doing your shopping, maybe you pick up three or four folders or a couple notebooks or a couple boxes of crayons to help our effort.
On August 1st, we will be the sponsor of Lunch by the River.
And this is where the collection of all of those school supplies happens. We call it Stuff the Bus. We load them all on a school bus, take them over to East Junior High, where they are then processed packed and ready for distribution.
This is a fabulous event. We can use donations of school supplies or monetary donations. We can also use volunteers to help with prepacking and distribution.
Because, like I said, it is a drive-through, so there's a little bit of, you know, there's a little bit of an art form to that, right?
So, when they get to the start of the line, somebody radios into the building and says, you know, we've got, you know, this family is here to pick up their backpacks.
By the time you get around East Junior High, your backpacks are waiting, you know, with a volunteer to be handed off to you.
So, really great event, you know, well-oiled machine to use the little thing, but it is good.
And we just encourage people to, you know, get involved in whatever way is meaningful to them.
We love all these events, and I am certainly a big fan of everything you guys do over there, because you touch on so many different things that are so important to this community.
I talked with you before in the years past. I've talked about it with Ben recently, how important it is for kids to have these supplies.
Not only for them to have all the tools that they need to learn, but even the simplest things of being not being distracted, or, you know, looking at the Joneses next to you and thinking of what you don't have, and so many of those things kind of things.
It's a meaningful event, and we love this one. We look forward to it.

Things kick off on June 10th. Make sure to volunteer. Be a part of this. Looking forward to meeting you all at the zoo on June 11th. That will be a lot of fun. I looked forward to it last year. It's going to be a lot of fun this year.

But I have to confess something to you, Terry, and I want you just between us. Just between you and I.

The United Week kind of then, if I had to pick, is probably my favorite. It's the combination of so many different things.
Clearly, we've got our rafters and we love our rafters here at WFHR here in this community.
You bring them into the event that's so much fun. So many different community businesses and nonprofits coming together and showing their creativity, which I love seeing.
I love seeing these businesses interact when I'm down there getting to see these great displays and everything.
And seeing the community enjoying themselves, having fun, coming together on a meaningful event, but having fun during it.
This community does that really good where this is an important thing.
But we're going to have a good time while we're celebrating it or while we're bringing attention to it. I love that about this area.
But if you've listened to me for five minutes, you know how important it is to me about hunger in this area and in this country.
I believe that there is not one person in this country that should be hungry, period, end of sentence, no excuses, no but, uh, no, nobody should be hungry.
This community gets that. You guys get that. The rafters get that. I'm so thankful for it. To that point, we're going to be adding this year to over 72,000 pounds of food that you guys have collected over the years of this event.
That's amazing. If you've never collected one more item that would be jugantically impressive to me. That's pretty darn cool.
It's pretty cool. Yeah. When we see organizations building food sculptures out of, you know, like 1,500 cans of food, that's, that's a lot.
It's more, you know, it's definitely more than you think. So, um, but we also, you know, there's also small sculptures, which are less than 500. And those two, I mean, it's really fun to see the creativity.
Oh, it's so much fun. I have a blast. It's one of the hardest things I have to do every year of judging that stuff, but looking forward to it.

But for right now, we got to get into our opening topic of the day, Terry. And this is an interesting one throwing yourself a half birthday party is apparently a thing now.
Uh, and, and so we're wondering, how would you react if you got an invite? We want the phone lines open for this 715-424-2600.
Listening on the Civic Media app, just a touch or two away, someone asked 14,000 American adults, and we're pretty evenly split on this one.
24% would like or love to be invited to a half birthday party. 23% think it's a very dumb idea. And everyone else is neutral out of it.
It's definitely more of a young person thing. 21% of people under 30 said that they've celebrated a half birthday before compared to just 4% of seniors.
So that was what I was wondering was is it for a half birthday party for a kid is maybe different than a half birthday party for an adult?
For me. Yeah. Yeah. I'm with you on this one. I may have a little bit of a caveat to it. If you are under the, if you are up to 10, I would say, keep celebrating that half birthday.
That's fun. It's fun for little kids. I'm four and a half. I love that. They're like, go right ahead. I say up until 9, 10 years old, you go ahead and do that.
And then you don't get to do it again until you are at least in your 50s or 60s. Because then every one of those count, baby.
You go ahead and celebrate that half birthday. I think you got higher than that.
You don't even, you don't know. You don't know after that. It's certainly huge. I mean, I say celebrate every one of those.
And if you got to go ahead and have a mile marker, like, I'm halfway to my next birthday. All right. Let's go ahead and have some fun.
Doesn't mean you have to treat it just like your birthday. You got to tone it down a little bit. But if you are over the age of 50 and you're coming up to me and say, I'm 55 and a half, I'm going to shake your hand.
I got no problem with that. The older we, as I get older, the more I realize how precious this whole game of life is.
If you want to celebrate that birthday, I'm not going to probably have probably, I actually, though, it's weird to me that the 20 somethings would be because to me, they're the last one that should be like, I mean, come on.
But I have to wonder if they, yeah, they've probably grown up with it a little bit.
I know a few families that do it, but they only do the half birthday just literally in their house. You know what I mean?
Like with with their immediate family, like they're not having a party asking people to bring a gift.
You know, that's the other thing, like, especially with kid parties. I mean, you usually are bringing a gift. So then do you want to do that twice?
I don't know. But I, but I also think if it's a fun excuse reason to get together, it's probably worth it. That's right. You know, I mean, that's fun.
Maybe you're not actually really, you know, hitting on the birthday part of it or anything. You're just more, hey, it's an excuse to party.
Then you have to make a half a birthday cake, right? I mean, right? Make a lyric cake, but cut it in half.
I love that. Oh, that's a great idea. Let's hear what's on your mind. Good morning. You're on the show.
Yeah, my half birthday is hard for me to forget. It's groundhog thing and that happens every year.
That's pretty fun. That is, that is a little fun. It is hard to forget that one.
My daughter's half birthday would be Christmas. Oh, wow. I don't know if I really thought about that.
So that would be, she probably would be like, no, maybe, maybe, maybe a, the, a small little, like you said, half cake.

Well, and of course, we also didn't have like Amazon or other ordering places where you could just get stuff easy.
But yeah, I think especially like you said before you said under 10, but I think probably the elementary age.
You know, that seems to be pretty popular to have a themed birthday. Yeah.
Yeah. And honestly, like if I'm buying paper plates and napkins, it doesn't matter if I buy the plane stuff or I buy the stuff with Hello Kitty on it.
I mean, if they want Hello Kitty, fine. You know, it's the same thing. I'm with you.
Same thing. This is not the bridge. The hill to die on.
You know, I should have done half birthday stuff because I have a December birthday.
Oh, yeah. You know, to have had summer stuff. I thought about you right away actually with this.
But then I got distracted and I got to all the things. But yes, yeah.
So you should probably be getting a gift ready for me. Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm working on that. Yeah.

There's a couple of great performances by him
and really, really speak to what I'm talking about.
His voice is also one of the most recognizable and likable voices.

We're talking about Game Show hosts a lot.

And it's kind of funny.
There was some students of mine I was talking to.
And we were joking.
And I don't know how it came up.
But the Drew Carey shows theme song came up.
And Cleveland Rocks and all this and everything.
I think we were doing some.
And they had no idea what we were talking about.
And no idea that Drew Carey not only was an actor
and not only had two different TV shows, I believe.
At least one.

And that was weird.
Thankful for that.
They had no idea it was a stand-up comedian at one point and everything.

I love the idea of seeing more of these stand-up comedians
that we've grown up with, a lot of them, getting game show jobs.
Pat Noswald has a new game show out.
I couldn't tell you the last time I thought about watching a game show,
but it's called like 1%.
And there's like 100 people in the audience.
And they ask a question.
And you have to answer.
And as people get them wrong, they get knocked out.
And then it becomes just one person.
Oh, okay.
It seems kind of fun.
It seems kind of interesting.
But Pat Noswald is one of my favorite comedians.
So to me, I'll watch it.
I would think about watching it because of the game.
But with a host like him, like, oh, I want to hear what funny things he has to say.
And hopefully they're allowing the personality of that.
I mean, why would you hire a comedian to do it?
If you weren't going to let that shine through a little bit.
From what I've seen, they've done that on the prices right.
Would you?
Oh, yeah, I think they're too.
You've really led him kind of just, hey, you're right.
You know what was smart because you were not going to replace Bob Barker.

So it's like, you have to let somebody put a little spin on it,

It's Car Fire's Game Show hosts and everything.
Mitch Album is 66, old Detroit sports writer who made a fortune
and made a lot of people happy with his books, Tuesdays with Mory,
the five people you meet in heaven.
And of course, the sequel and the next person you meet in heaven.
I know my mom liked those books.
Yeah, they're great.
I have really good books, really good books.
And again, interesting arc, be your Detroit sports writer.
And you just go right into this, like, in flawlessly, too.

You know, people you pull up next to somebody to stop light and
they've got a little food dog on their lap.
Yes, I've seen it.
I couldn't do it.
There's no way I think I'd feel good doing it.
Now, with my fur dog Sam, like my fur brother,
he's usually in the passenger seat right next to me.
He'll try to get in my lap.
But after a moment or two, he's like, all right, I'll stay.
We've never had small dogs.
Like our last dog was like 90 pounds.
And this one's probably 70.
So I mean, it wouldn't be humanly possible.
I wouldn't be able to see it.
I don't like saying this because he might hear it.
But I don't want to fend Sam or anything.
But I'm used to bigger dogs too.
I thought you were going to say he's overweight.
Well, he's a little punch.
He's a little hot dog.
He's a little punch.
He's sausage.
He puts that, you know, we don't put the...
I'm a big believer.
I don't like the neck harnesses.
I like the ones that go around.
Oh, so no collar you'd rather have a harness.
Yeah, I'd rather have the harness.
We put the harness out here, but he looks like a little sausage.
He's got belly.
Like his buns too small.
He's got, yeah, he's got to get outside a little.
We got to get him walking on the walk.
Better start walking him a little bit more.
And honestly, the dog doesn't ride in my car.
So I'm off the hook.
This is from a survey on how dangerous driving with dogs can be.
An insurance company talked to over 1,000 dog owners and half said
that they worry about their dog causing an accident.
And here are some other quick stats for you.
And it's an interesting thing too.
We're doing this more and more than I think we ever have in our society
where we're traveling with our pets.
We're also at a new day and age where it is very common.
I would think the overall consensus is don't leave your dog in the car.
Don't bring your dog with you if you don't have to.
Don't bring your dog with you if you're going to be in a building
or be out of the car for too long of a period of time.
Especially as the weather's getting warmer like this.
Yeah, when we were kids, this was a bit more of a fringe kind of thing.
Now it feels like I feel comfortable saying 80 to 90% of people out there agree with that.
And that's pretty cool, I think, because it should be that way.
You know, when you're talking about, if you let your dog sit on your lap,
what about if you're at home?
What if you're sitting in the chair of the couch?
Then do you let the dog jump up?
Yeah, see, I don't really have a problem with that.
But it depends again on the dog.
The size, are they dirty?
A lot of those things.
Yeah.
Well, we have in our living room, we have like the chair and a half.
You know, so really like two people can fit in it.
Okay.
But that's always, it's always one of the girls and the dog.
Okay, so you guys don't mind you, okay?
No, I mean, it's a golden retriever, so he sheds like mad.
Oh, yeah.
But, you know, I'm just resigned to it.
If you come to my house, you're getting dog hair.
Yeah, I mean, you know, that's, honestly, you just need to take a little with you.
It cannot be eradicated as hard as I try.
It just, sort of, I don't know, maybe a buzz cut.
If you can't do it, it can't be nuts.
I don't think you can.
I just give up.
I give up.
And it's worth it, the dogs.
Here are a few more quick stats on driving a dogs.
69% usually make their dogs sit in the back seat.
41% let them sit up front in the passenger seat sometimes.
And 13% have let them sit on their lap.
Half of dog owners think that there should be laws requiring you to buckle your dogs in
or restrain them in some way.
I don't, I'm just like, okay.
Like, our dog would go good in his, in his crate, right?
Like, he would be fine with that.
But there is no way you would be able to like buckle him.
Like, like, put him in the seat belt.
It's a good way to lose your seat belt.
I would feel like chewing on the seat belt or something like that.
Or wiggling out of it.
There is no way he would go for that.

it's frustrating not knowing what to watch on TV.

I don't watch it.
You know, I know whatever it is.
And you just flip the O T and T.
He's got another TV show out.
And so you're doing that.
That's dogs.
That's dogs putting their head out the window.
That's what smells are to dogs.
They're flipping channels.
And to deprive them of that seems pretty cruel.
Seems pretty mean.
Let the dog hang the hang out though.
I love watching their faces.
So yeah.
You know, when they're out, or when you start getting to a faster speed
and they're like, lips are not the whole.
Yes, that never gets old.
There are a few things on this planet that are happy.
That a dog with its head out the window.
88% of men and 77% of women admit that they might not always be paying
full attention on long trips because they're busy entertaining their dog.

I remember years ago when we had dish, a dish, and they had dog TV come out.
And we were so excited like our dog, Gonzo at the time.
Like, oh, Gonzo, you know, and my ex was really, really like into this, into this channel.
And like, oh, this is going to change things for dog owners and all this.
It's going to change your electric bill.
That's it.
That's all it did.
That's all it did.
The dog couldn't have cared less.
There was every single show we tried.
We tried like eight or nine different shows and different things.
And none of it me cared about.
It wasn't until we started watching.
I can't remember what the show was, but it was some show with the dog in it.
And it barked.
And that caught his attention.
Yeah.
That was what he was doing.
I do know some people that leave on something though.
Some kind of sound for their dog, you know, radio, whatever.
It could be TV.
I mean, seriously, when we're not home, he is in his room with the door shut.
He, you know, you're still a dog at the end of the day.
Like, I'm not playing music for you.
Right now, my parents, I think my parents are at an appointment or getting coffee or something.
Because I only know that because they leave us on for Sam.
And so that's what Sam's hearing right now, which is why I was very hesitant to say anything about big dogs and everything.
That was not nice.
That part, he already knows.
We're very honest about that.
He makes fun of me being skinny.
I make fun of him for a little child.
That's what we do.
We're guys.
We make fun of each other a little.
We have a timeout.

You can get it quick trips in places.
I mean, camearts in places like that.
But now you mentioned something I had forgotten about that they're in movie theaters.
Yeah, they haven't met the movie theater here in Rapids.
Very smart pivot move by the very smart move.
Well, you know, they always came in red and blue slushies like we mentioned.
Well, to create an icy cereal, now they're doing.
Now the versus happening.
So they created a little while back with Kellogg's in icy cereal.
I'd forgotten about this.
I never tried it.
Really?
Yeah.
Well, now we're getting a cereal flavored icy.
The icy company announced a new Fruit Loops flavor, which is coming to retail retailers nationwide.
The flavor will also launch in target stores this summer.
If you're wondering why this is happening, well, it certainly isn't to create a healthier option.
It's a wrap of the icy says icy and fruit loops are beloved brands that instantly transport you to your childhood
and make everything of everyday moments special, nostalgic and fun.
It has a natural, it's a natural fit.
Can I give you rewind?
I don't like Fruit Loops.
I've never liked Fruit Loops.
So this is implying that every color tastes the same of Fruit Loops.
I mean, oh, yeah, because they do.

Well, I mean, so this is something and man, I will never forget this day.
Carl and I were doing our five random facts and we did the thing about Skittles.
How every Skittles is the same.
They are not.
They're made the same, but the way that when we see the colors,
or what they did in the little scent that they put in them and everything.
But I'm reading this and I look over at Carl and I've never seen him more like angry, dumbfounded,
or just just disappointed in everything.
He was trying to reach the button to turn your mic off.

I don't blame him.
Just wacky was something.
I don't like to do this to everybody, but Fruit Loops is the same type of thing.
I mean, these are.
We get that.
I was just wondering how you could have a Fruit Loop flavored something.
Yeah.
The Loops are different.
Definitely got a, I'm imagining a fruitier fruit.
That sounds disgusting.

And that has really carried a lot of things.
There's movies, TV shows, fashion.
Many things have been, music has been affected by this.
And we're seeing a lot of it.
But I think we're also seeing the tail end of it.
I think that it's starting to kind of hit its shelf life.
And now people are like, okay, I'm done kind of reliving the past.
I want a better, I want future.
I want to do this.
I want to see what's exciting, what's coming up.
And too many of these businesses have already put thousands and thousands of dollars in no.
You said you wanted to go down memory lane.
You're going down memory lane.
I kind of feel like if you want to just, you know,
have some nostalgia around fruit loops by a box of fruit loops.
That seems pretty simple.
Although, you know, there is this, there is this, um,
do it like a bottle drink that I will get.
Sometimes it's called ice.
So it's like, you know, there's no, um, whatever, no carbs, no calories.
So it's like flavored water, basically.
But they came out with some starburst flavors of that.
And I love like pink starbursts or the red.

The red.
So I got the red, the red ice, this flavor of water.
It was so disgusting.
It tasted like, remember the red children's Tylenol?
Oh, yeah.
It was so gross.
I thought, you know, if you want to starburst, just get a starburst.

Well, a photo is making the rounds showing a vending machine in Germany that sells unopened mystery packages.
You don't know what's in them.
They just look like random packages from Amazon.
And that's basically what they are.
They contain returned or unclaimed merchandise from online realtors.
Stuff that no one wants.
The realtor doesn't think they're worth paying to have shipped back to restock.
Especially it's a, uh, if it's supposed to go back to China or something, which Amazon is, uh,
made pretty popular now.

Well, Amazon, you, there's even local places that have done those palette parties here.
So you pay so much and then you get something out of this unknown palette.
So you don't know what you're getting.
This is storage wars.
I don't know how they do it in a, in a vending machine.

But I never, I only seen like an episode or whatever, but those shows where you could buy the storage a lot and you don't know what's inside.
And, you know, oh, you find the elephant man bones.

No, I don't want nothing to do with that world.

We're to the liquidation warehouses in the US, uh, for those sales where people can buy random palettes that like you're talking about there.

Um, but that is the weirdest, scariest looking vending machine I've ever seen.
If I did not know what that was and I just walked past like what the, like no, no, I don't know.
Well, you know, and certain retailers have made the standard now, you know, that, that really you can return pretty much anything, right?
Hopefully you are reasonable about if you've used it or not in that kind of, but I can see we're doing stuff like this just selling a whole lot of it to someone who's going to whatever put it in a vending machine or do
other things versus trying to, um, get it back to the supplier.
It probably makes that it's probably more cost effective.
I don't know, you know, I wonder what the price point is on that vending machine, right?

Like, like if it was like ten bucks, you know, it might be kind of fun to throw in ten bucks and see what you get.
Absolutely.
But what if it's a hundred?
Yeah.
See, that's, that's where they get me.
It says, if it's, if it's, you know, a ten to even, even like 15, I could see, you know, 15, 20 bucks, I could see given this a shot.
I wonder if there's different tiers too, like there's a dollar one, a five dollar one like that.
It's a fun idea.

I actually think it's kind of a fun idea.
And why not, um, imagine if you are one of these companies, it's, it, you probably make more money doing this than you do having the item return.
I can see you like throwing in a 20 and then it's like a shower, shower cap or something.
Or a pair of heels or something that I can't even use or something like that.

I can, I also feel that that would be my luck as well.

The dogs are not allowed on the beach areas.
