Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thank you for kicking it off with us right here at WFHR locally grown radio. Got your host James J.
I am joined by our head of production, Mr. Seth Habhager. Good morning, everyone. That was impressive. That was like octopus James. He's like did six things at once. That was impressive.
You know this job, man. You did. You're spinning plates. That's all you're doing is spinning plates. We kick things off the way we like to with our friends over at with weather with Brittany. Good morning, Brittany. How are you doing this morning?
I'm good. How are you? I'm I'm all over the place. I'll be honest. All over the place all over. It's been one of those mornings, but you you get it. You know how it goes. It's radio. That's what you know, that's why we love this industry. We love this job.
Exactly. You know the crazy or the day that faster flies by, right? Very true. Very true. With this with this with this weather with this temperature today seems like it's going to coast by pretty well to a little bit cooler than yesterday, but still some nice temps for this time of year.
Yes, absolutely fantastic feeling like spring still today. Funny skies and ice pouring into the mid 50s. Enjoy it now because tomorrow it's going to be a little blast of winter.
We're just sampling it from now. And now in that now is it's all we're up to. Yeah.
Oh my goodness. It's like we're going to see a cold front, which I haven't said very often this winter, pushing through a wind.
When it does, it's going to crank the winds out of the northwest, so it'll get pretty breezy by tonight and through tomorrow.
Guess up to about 15 to 20 miles per hour. And we actually have a chance for some snow to be flying around from about seven to maybe three o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
Really just putting down a trace to a half an inch would be the maximum amount of snowfall. Just a winter vibe for tomorrow and feeling much cooler with highs in the 30s.
Not bad. Not bad. You know what we'll take it. We'll take it. No returns. No returns. We'll take it.
Okay, I have I have a question for Brittany because I heard her on one of the other fine programs here on Civic Media yesterday that you got your start doing weather up in Duluth.
Is that correct? Yeah. No, I have. I am from that area. So I need to know which channel did you do it for? Oh yeah.
Okay, so I was on two of them. I first went up there. I was on Fox 21. Okay.
Out of Duluth's the period for about six or five years after COVID. I ended up leaving. I went home to see my mom and spend time with family.
When I went back to Duluth, I was working at WDIO. Is that ABC 10? That's that's yep. Channel 10 ABC. Yep. That is awesome. Oh, I love the connection. No, I wasn't there that by no.
I was long gone by then, but so no. No, those are the stations. I wash growing up though. So that is really cool. I love connections like that. No, it is a small world. It is. It is a small world.
I love Duluth area. I was actually just up there this weekend. Have you been recently? As long as I don't have to live there. I love visiting and I haven't been there in a little while, but I love visiting it too. Yeah, I'm with you.
We are very happy that you're here now, pretty. Yes, we are really, really happy. You're here now. We love working with you. Looking forward to getting people ready for the weekend tomorrow. You have a great day.
You too. Thank you. One of the best right there. We appreciate work with them. That's awesome. What a cool connection. I know. I heard her say that yesterday. I'm like, Oh, I got to find out which one where she would have. That is really cool. We got cool stuff lined up for you this morning.
We're going to get into the LKF a birthday anniversary club and just a little bit. We'll also touch on it being National Margarita Day. It is also National Walk Your Dog Day. We got to talk about that with the Margarita. Yes.
And when you're done, you'll eat chili because it's also National Chili Day. Oh, see, your day is all planned out for you now. Got you covered. Even if you don't have a dog.
And if your name's Ryan, we got plans for you. More on that later. Okay, get into that. That's you've been warned, Ryan. Yes. Yes. Oh, you riots out there. Be out the lookout.
We're going to get into some of that a little have some fun there in the eight and nine o'clock hour. We will kick things off. Possibly with our friends from the South of County Main Society. We will find. We'll see.
No, busy. They are over there. We'll see. Either way, we will highlight them and talk about them. Got some entertainment news. Want to get into.
And including in that kind of a branching off from that Seth got a couple of interesting stories that we may be able to do if my computer works.
Am I computer? I'm noticing. It's not the only thing that's not working right now. I don't know what's going on.
The radio server is not available at the moment. Just give it a sec here. We'll see what happens. It's my fault. It literally happened as soon as I said something and looked over at the computer.
Well, my laptop's not working. I wonder if. Wonderful. Just what like we told Brittany. This is what we love about this is live radio, man. It's what is it? Is it us?
It's going to happen last Thursday too. What's going on? I'm starting to take this person. I know what is going on. You were having trouble connecting to the tower this morning. I was. I don't know what that is either.
But not weird vibes here. I. I'm just going to go ahead and assume it's us. It just feels like a safe bet. I guess.
It's like not a bad idea. Let's go ahead and start here. Yesterday if you happen to listen to Midday magazine and hear our interview with Mayor Shane Blazer.
Appreciate that everybody been trying to and took a listen to that. If you don't get a chance, you can catch it on the if you didn't get a chance.
You can catch it on the civic media website. Just go to civic media. US. We have all of our stuff podcasted there are shows. Everybody else shows all right.
Therefore, if you miss anything, keep that in mind. Be sure to bookmark that page. Also encourage you to if you think if you get a chance to check out the video from Wisconsin Rebs Community Media.
Yes. They do such good work over there. And you can find the video of Shane's interview right there. One of the things Shane and I talked about.
And I have to say, as a side note, I have enjoyed working with all of our local politicians and representatives and everything. I've got nothing bad to say as far as them off air or anything like that.
I'm really enjoying Shane in these last months.
Going out of office.
Yeah. I feel like I'm not saying that like he's burdened bridges or obviously not that. If you know, Shane is always a good guy and stuff.
Yeah. But he just seems looser. He just seems like he does. And he has earned that. He is. I have told him on air off air.
What the years that he has done here, you can double those years because he didn't not only started his campaign during a, you know, a run as mayor during the pandemic.
You know, we forget about that. You know, he gets elected and all of a sudden, WAM, the whole everything is just, it stops. Yeah.
Grinds to a halt because of the pandemic. And he did such a great job of handling it. It's getting us through that in the area here. It was really great.
I think he was the perfect guy for the job for the time and he's done his time. I think he has earned the break to walk away from this. That's what he and his family choose. And that's what they've done.
Here we are. We've got two new candidates now, we're down to now two candidates after the spring primary election.
So for now, we are down to Matt Zacker and Tom Terry Mews, who will move on to the April 2nd election for the Wisconsin Rapids mayor after receiving the most votes in Tuesday spring primary.
So Matt got 84% of the vote. Tom 17%. Nicholas and Preston both presented as well. I want to start on maybe an awkward note if I can.
All right. And I encourage people to listen to that interview with Shane. Yes. Yes. It's a very good with what you two talk about. Yes.
We dived into local politics a bit and we talked a little bit about the idea of running for mayor.
Because we had four candidates, we had to have the spring primary, which means that we had to have election workers and volunteers out there in full ready to go.
I went and voted and it wasn't very busy. And from what I heard from you know, I talked to some of our poll workers. I talked to Shane.
We didn't see a lot of traction. No, that's not new. Spring primaries and elections in general don't seem to get a lot of traction. Let alone locally and everything.
But what that does is you will hear in the interview, cost it us about 10 grand. Yeah. The city cost it that much. Yeah.
Yeah. It costs a city about 10 grand be able to do something like that. Now I encourage every single citizen. If every one of you want to run for mayor, do it. Go for it.
If you want to run for school board, you want to run for president, you want whatever you want to do, you want an American citizen, baby, that is your right. Go for it.
I encourage that. We need more good people in politics. We need more human beings in politics and everything. I want to see that. I want to see more of that.
But if I could just send out a note, a plea, if you will. And it is a plea because we're at this point in the game.
Have a game plan. Don't just, you know, hey, two in the morning, I think it's a good idea to run for mayor and then go for it.
You take the time to get these signatures. You take the time to, you know, do other things, you know, you're making Facebook posts and all this stuff and everything.
Take the time to treat the position seriously. Right. These two out of these four candidates didn't seem to do that. No.
And I'm being honest with you right now. I don't pull punches. I'm not taking shots at anybody.
Though both those other gentlemen have lives and have a lot going on. And do I know a lot about that? I'm working three different gigs. I know what it's like.
I've got kids. I've got a lot of that going on too. But I also didn't throw my hat in the ring. Right.
And if you're going to do that, okay, then do it. Yes. Then go all in. Don't just be a one trick pony.
Don't just have one thing on your mind that you're going to do. And please do not come here and tell me that the reason you deserve to be mayor is because you're a citizen.
You got to have a little bit more than that. That's the bare minimum. That's the baseline for everybody. It's pretty much the baseline.
Yeah, we can all say that. We're all citizens and say, yeah, we can we can run for mayor. But you know what? If people would go back and listen.
Yeah, I mean, not every single one. But if people would go back and check out your interviews with mayor Blazer.
Okay. Go ahead and listen to what this job entails. Okay. Yeah.
Yeah. You you and him talked about it every month when he was here. List all the different things that you have to do as mayor.
How tired sometimes mayor Blazer sounded because of all the stuff you had to do. It's a big job. Even for a city not that big as Wisconsin Rap is less than 20,000 people.
But man, all the stuff that goes into it, man, this is this is do not take this lightly. It's not one of those things. You got lots to do.
If it's if you are a one issue candidate, you can promote that issue. You've got a billion different social media outlets. You've got this radio station that you can come on and talk with us.
Exactly. We'll talk about that issue. We'll spend time on it. We'll give time to it. If it's local, we're going to definitely get into it. We that's our job around here is to talk.
You've got plenty of outlets nowadays. This is not like it was even 20, 25 years ago where okay, I run from mayor because I care so much about this cause. I care more about the cause and I do being mayor.
That's not how this works. No, you can't do it that way. No, no, you can't do what happens if you get elected and say you fix or you quote unquote fix or get whatever was that policy that you want to done.
Now what? Yeah, what are you going to do then? Yeah. I mean, I know I don't feel the reason I've never touched on this subject is because I felt like it was pretty well known. I thought this was common knowledge. This is common. We just cost it our city a couple of grand. I'm 10 grand. 10,000 dollars.
10,000? Yeah. Yeah. Anybody else got that laying around? Yeah. For what? Why? Why did we do this?
We took time out of all the poll workers that had to be there. I mean, they took time out of their busy schedules in order to help everybody out, get their voting in.
And if that was not necessary, if we didn't have, if everyone had been serious, then that would have made more sense. But it really seemed to, like you said, we don't know the whole story.
So we can't say, but it really seemed by their actions, how should we in a judge it? Because it's like, well, it seems like they didn't really weren't that interested.
Not all the candidates showed up to the League of Women voters forum. Yeah, exactly. Not all the candidates responded and then did interviews with us. That's right. And to be blunt, not all the candidates were qualified.
Qualification is a different category. Yeah. I mean, prepared.
Prepared. Exactly. Yes. Do they have a vision? Do they have? Do they? I mean, of all the things the city, do they know what the mayor does? I mean, seriously.
Yeah. So, yeah, it's, it's, it's good to, we want, we want, you know, people to do their civic duty. We want people to run for office. We want people to step up.
We know this, but we also need you to be, think about what you're doing before you do another worse. Yeah. Yeah. Take a little time. Take a little time.
And speaking of time, we're going to have to, we're going to have to stretch a little bit here. I've got, I've got a plan right now, James. We'll, we'll see if this works. And, and everyone gets to hear it. So, yeah, go to the hotkeys there.
And then let's go ahead and let's, let's play a bumper track here. Sure. I'm going to try and restart the program while we're doing that and see if we can get back. All right. All right.
Let's try. You know, that's a sweet idea. If not, you'll be hearing us come right back. So, yeah, that's a sweet idea right there. Seth, we'll be right back with the LKFA birthday anniversary club right here on WFHR.
How sweet it is to be loved by you.
I needed the shelter of someone's own. There you were.
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs. There you were.

And first up we get to wish Happy Birthday to Joe Bunsen. Happy Birthday Joe. Enjoy your day, sir. Hope it's a good one for you. Take care and enjoy.
And a very happy birthday to our qualifier, Madison Rafter. What? What? Yeah. Madison Rafter. Congratulations. Madison and Happy Birthday to you.
Madison, of course, became familiar to our audience through our friends at the South of County and made society joining us for their pet of the week.
We got to know Madison pretty well on air off air and really appreciate her. Yes. Did some incredible work in our community and wishing her the best of the day.
All the best. Yeah. And we'll talk soon, Madison. You have a good day. Enjoy your day, Madison. That works.
Let's take a look at our celebrity list here. Khalil Mac is 33 currently L.A. Chargers linebacker. Of course, linebacked for Buffalo University Raiders Bears. One of my favorite linebackers ever love Khalil Mac.
Is he is he Hall of Fame material? Do you think I was just thinking that because I was I was wondering should I see future Hall of Famer or not?
Or is he one of those guys in the fence? He's on the fence. I think I think he's on the fence. It is one or two more really good years. We'll see. Yeah. And we'll see what he can do with that coach, you know, with Jim Harbohol.
Jim Harbohol is everything and that defense. They got a nice defense. I got a lot of talent on that team.
A lot of talent right in Ray John Rondo. 38 former Cleveland Cavaliers point guard. Of course, famous for being a point guard for the Celtics during their championship run.
But played for them for a couple of quite a few years. And Rondo, what a great name. It's such a great name. Rondo, such a great name.
Also, I've heard so many people in the ABA talk about this. One of the most intelligent like game guys. He understands the game. One of those people that sees the whole court, just a court general in many ways.
Older before older than his years too, back in the day when he was working with Garnath and Pierce and Ray Allen. And he was a bit of a leader on that team.
Being the youngest out of all them too. I think that's interesting.
Just a point guard, you know, one of the quintessential point guard. Yeah. Yeah. The great Tom Hiddelsen is 45 today.
I'm so sorry. I messed that up. It's Higginson. Tom Higginson. Oh, no, stop Tom Hiddelsen. It's Tom Hiddelsen. Yeah, I apologize. These lead singer for the plain white teeth.
They're Delilah and some others. Do they? What if they ever get each other's mail? I'd love to see that. Hiddelsen. That's really close.
It is a little close. It also, you know, dyslexia is a jerk. It is. It is. It's just a jerk. I need having it. Drew Barrymore. 49.
Wait, she's only 49. Yeah, that's crazy. How is she only 49? Wow. I'm happy for that. You know, she's 49.
I know, but I mean, you know, we, I think we always say this with child actors, because it's, you know, we're children when we see them, you know, especially if you grow up with them.
And it's like, how could they only be that? You know, wow. It's crazy. What a incredible arc to her career, to her life.
You know, ET, of course, puts her on the map. Well, she's from a famous Hollywood family to the Barrymore family.
Fire starter, you know, some early work. And right away, you can tell, okay, this, she's got talent.
She even at a young age, you can see that she, she is built of this cloth. She is built for this.
And then we find out, no, she's not because, you know, mental health issues and some of the paparazzi and some of the things she dealt with at a young age.
Growing up in that, in that spotlight. It's tough. It's rough. And so it looks like, okay, your Barrymore story is written.
You know, she did playboy. She did some things here that maybe she, she is or isn't proud of who knows. I'd love to ask her.
I'd love to interview and talk with her. I'd love to be interviewed by her. I just, so I can sit in the couch with her.
It just looks like, it looks comfortable. It looks fun. Right. And then like, no, I'm not done. I'm going to come back and I'm going to do, I'm going to remake Charlie's Angels.
I'm going to get behind that. Nobody really thought was a great idea. Nobody was really, you know, bombarding, breaking down doors to try to make that happen.
She reaches out to Bill Murray and Bill Murray loves the idea. They get, and then gets him on board and gets a couple of other people.
And now, and really kind of rejuvenize that franchise and brought that back. Huge hit. Huge hit.
Which, whether it was intentional or not, ended up bouncing her career back. And she gets behind the cameras, did a rollerball, a rollerball movie that was really good.
She's directed a couple of things and very nice eye, very good director, I think. And did, and of all the crazy spins, is a T, a T.C.M. darling.
Like, for years, I'm not sure she's still doing it, but she would do the, the T.C.M. you know, the bumpers turn around after, yeah.
Yeah, turn a, uh, turn a classic stuff in classic Hollywood student of the game. Yeah. Like she knew, like Seth and I have an insane amount of, like, needless information in our heads about movies and actors and all that.
Exactly true. I, she might beat us. Like, she, she may.
Oh, there are people out there that she's one of them. I think you're right. Yeah. It's so cool to see. Yeah.
And now she's got the talk show and a lot of people love that and love being on that show. I, I hear it is one of the most sought after interviews to be on that show.
Come on. Come on internet. What are you doing to us today? I'm, I'm really, I'm, I'm, I'm on the edge today, everybody.
He's right there. This could be a really interesting show. Our internet, just our, our computer.
One more time. One more time. Let's, let's, it's James Bluntz birthday, 50 years old for James James, 50 for him.
Okay. You're beautiful. Good by my lover. I don't know a whole lot about James, but I'll be honest. No, he had a couple of, of, of interesting hits. So, yeah.
Um, so, uh, um, we're going to try to do some stuff there.
Oh, you can close that there. Okay. All right. Go to the on air thing. There you go. Oh, the, you mean the thing that says on area. That's a great. That's great.
That was very smart by that company. On it. What do I click? Oh, on air. Yeah. Yeah. So I think we're, yeah, let's see what this goes ahead and does its thing.
Thank you, modern, modern technology. Um, Thomas Thomas Jane is 55, sci-fi is the expanse. He was in the 2004 Punisher, the mist.
Uh, a bunch of good actor. Thomas Jane, good actor. Uh, let's see here. Jerry Ryan is 56. Oh, seven and nine. Yeah. Star Trek Voyager, uh, Star Trek Picard. Um, uh, and from, I, while I never seen her in any of those shows, I know who she is because of how popular her character was.
Yes. Oh, absolutely. 100%. She also after she was done with Star Trek. She was on Boston public. I believe for a while teacher on that show. So, yeah.
The great Rachel Dratch is 58 SNL alum who left the show to join Tina Fey on 30 Rock, but, uh, there was a scheduling problem and producers replaced her with Jane, uh, Kretskowski.
And Rachel ended up doing like 12 episodes as various characters. Um, it's such a shame that that happened. And I, I feel like I really hope that Rachel Dratch has a resurgence as well. Yeah.
Incredibly talented. She's very talented. Very funny. Um, and, um, um, cancel. Uh, and, and, and just a really, really powerful actor. I think a very, um, her, uh, uh, uh, some of the characters that she did on SNL are like legendary. Yes.
I really liked them. What I really enjoyed was watching a lot of the old, uh, second city tapes, um, and seeing Tina Fey aiming polar and Rachel Dratch, they were the big three. Okay.
They worked so well together in that chemistry. Like I've never seen before. Uh, incredibly, uh, good at what they did. Incredibly good.
Yeah. Kyle McLaughlin is 65, Agent Dale Kart, Cooper and Twin Peaks. Wow. He was on agents of shield as well. Yes, he was. That was, that was a good, interesting character too. Yeah.
It's a good actor. Yes, he is. I like him a lot, actually. Always did good work. I've always enjoyed seeing him and doing what he's done and stuff.
65 though. I wouldn't have guessed that he's 65. He's actually quite well. So, yeah. Uh, Dr. J, Julie serving 74, 74 for Dr. J. I'm going to move out of the way. If you're going to, yeah, let's do it.
Let's try it. We're going to try it. Yeah. Yeah. So Julia serving, uh, well, not only one of the greater, like Hall of Fame, NBA, I believe top 75, tap 50 NBA players of all time, Julie serving.
And also the author of one of the greatest, like, moves and dunks in NBA history. Um, for if you haven't seen, there's a play where Dr. J is coming down to court.
It gets a little too close. He's going too fast and he gets too close to the rim. So he takes his arm and stretches around the hoop and gets it in.
It's just an amazing play you got to see to believe. Uh, one of the greater NBA players of all time, Julia serving Dr. J. That's such a, it's one of the best nicknames of all time too. It's a really good nicknames.
Uh, let's see here. Uh, John Aston is 76 today. Sergeant Taggart in Beverly Hills Cop and some other good work. They're a good, a good actor, a very good actor.
Taking a look at some people no longer with us. One of our better directors, Jonathan Demi born in the state in 1944, Pestway in 2017.
Uh, Philadelphia, science of the lambs, beloved, uh, caged heat. Uh, I mean, a lot of classics, Jonathan Demi. One of those guys that I would have given anything to work with, um, work for.
I do one line in the movie of his and become a better actor, uh, just incredible director. And of course, one of the voice, the voice of, uh, SNL, I would say.
Uh, for, for at least the first 50 years or whatever. Don Pardo. Don Pardo.
Legendary SNL announcer born in the state in 1918, Pestway in 2014. Um, Don Pardo was actually like, um, incredibly state had an incredible stage fright.
Was very nervous about being on stage. So speaking, uh, even speaking and hearing him speak, it took him a long time to get over that.
And I think he's a really good example of if you've ever wanted to be an entertainer or do an entertainment, you've, you've got stage fright or anything.
You can get through those things. That is something that is one of those things that can, I believe that can be built through, uh, with experience and working with good people and everything.
Don Pardo was one of the best, really good at what he did. And Ted Kennedy born in the state in 1932, Pestway in 2009.
And as we, uh, mentioned politicians, we'd be remiss if we did not mention the father of our country, George Washington born in this day in 1732, Pestway in 1799.
Um, incredible history to Mr. Washington and, uh, everything he accomplished.
We're going to take a quick time out and try to get things working over here. Thank you, everybody to sent us birthdays and adversaries. Happy birthday to Joe Bunsen and the happy birthday to our qualifier, our good friend Madison Rafter.
We'll have more coming up. We encourage you to go wish a good morning to our friends over at LKFA right now over in beautiful poor Edwards. We'll be back more on WF HR locally grown radio.
Welcome back everyone. WF HR locally grown radio. Seth and James here with you. Thanks so much for joining us on a crazy, crazy Thursday.
Oh man. It's an interesting day today, everybody. If we are streaming, thank you so much for, you know, having some patience with us.
Appreciate that. If it is not streaming, you can't hear us. No, but we will get it going eventually. We're working pretty hard on this and we've got our people, our best people on it.
Uh, we will see how this goes. James, I switched chairs. I mean, that's how crazy it is. That's, uh, it's very crazy. And, uh, wow, we haven't done this since, um,
Rock history. Rock history one. Yeah, it's been a long time. It's a weird feeling. It's a weird feeling to go over here. I like you being out the board though. I could get used to this.
Oh, okay. Oh, I see it. You might get, uh, pretty comfortable over there. Yeah. Okay. All right. Let's, uh, let's go ahead and dive into this one, Seth. It's national Margarita day.
And, um, it's, it's, uh, a couple of fun stats about, uh, in celebrating the Margarita. Sure.
A poll for it found 76% of Americans like Margaritas, only 7% have a full on hatred of them. Okay. It seems a bit much.
Uh, okay. I hate them. Yeah. I mean, this is taking it pretty far. I feel like it is. It's like, uh, maybe no, prefer them, but, uh, they hate that seems like a bit much.
Oh god, uh, 76%, that's a pretty high percentage. Yeah, it is. Wow. Margaritas are the third most ordered cocktail worldwide.
The top five rgeon and Tonic, Mojito, Margareta, bloody, Marie, and whiskey and Coke. Okay. prefer Ramer Cope, And, all right. Yeah.
That's all right. You know, sixty seven percent of us prefer Frozen Margaritas, but 3% of Americans don't think that's not good.
That's truly a Margarita, and we'll judge you for ordering it. Oh, jeez. What?
And judge you for what your drink you're ordering? Uh, I feel like I don't understand, like I'm missing something here.
Like, uh, it's still a Margarita, isn't it? Yeah. They serve Margaritas hot.
If I've been drinking Margaritas wrong, yeah, I don't understand what they're all right.
No, no, they don't necessarily have to be like frozen drinks. You can make a Margarita just like in a glass and ice and stuff.
It doesn't, but still. Oh, yeah. Hot Margaritas, not some. No, no.
Uh, hot cheeseburger though does cheeseburgers are the top food where most likely to order with the frozen Margarita cheeseburgers, the most likely burger, most likely food will order with it.
15% of us only drink them when we're on vacation. That's funny. That's funny. You've never done that. So you've never had one.
Yeah, I've never, yeah. That's right. That's whatever. Yeah. That's a nice thing.
Two thirds of us like a salted rim in 26% always lick it before each sip. Okay.
Oh, okay. I can see doing a little both. I like kind of like the idea of doing a little.
That's fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Mashed.com ranked the best Margarita mixes you can buy and gave the top spot to trace Agnes organic.
Some of the others have too much sugar in them. Oh, okay. That's interesting.
The USA today did a roundup of the best Margarita day deals. They include $5 marks at Dave and Busters and at Chili's Cup. Okay.
A couple of things there to look forward to. Okay. Interested.
Uh, and I don't know. It was never my, uh, my drink a choice, but I don't mind the Margarita. I don't think they're horrible.
You know, there's several great Mexican places in town here. Yeah. I bet you have some really good Margaritas. I don't drink so I wouldn't know.
I know several people who actually quite enjoy Margaritas. So go, go, go to one of our local places and see what they got.
And I know they say a hamburger pairs very well with a Margarita. How about Chili? Does Chili pair well with a Margarita?
Uh, I'm guessing not. But if you want to try, it is National Chili Day. Okay. So wait, do you, are you chili? Do you like chili or not?
Yeah, but I'm, I'm the picky guy. I like it without beans.
Well, here, I got something for you because there are chili people out there that will push back and say, how can it be chili without beans?
Right. Yeah, I heard of my whole life. The original chili did not have beans in it. Really?
No, it was just, they used to call it my, this is hilarious. My dad read, read a book called A Bowl of Red, which is about the history of chili.
Nice. My, because my dad's weird, but he also loved beans. But he found out in this book that, no, when the cowboys that invented it,
like in Texas or wherever it was, no, it was just like meat and like some, some sauce and stuff. But there was, or whatever they had, but they didn't have beans, of course.
Yeah. So they did not use beans. It was just like meat and vegetables. And that was it in a bowl. That's basically what Chili was.
I've read so much about cowboys and so much about the old West and that and everything. And when I read those, I've never come across that, but it never made sense to me that they would have beans just there to be able to throw into the mix.
So I'm a traditionalist. I didn't even know. That's awesome. That's awesome. Well, with beans or without, enjoy some chili today. It's a good day for it.
Yeah. A poll for chili day, national chili day looked at the top ways we eat chili.
Okay. In a bowl, 52%, it crushed all other options by at least 40 points. Okay. I like it in a bowl, but I also, I want some crackers.
I like to break up some crackers are good. Yeah. Yeah. What's your technique with the crackers? Do you break them like a lot or just a little bit like crush a little and you know, it depends on the chili.
I do like, you know, and it has to be kind of a bland cracker. It's got, you know, with just like salt, like a saltine or something like that.
But yeah, you crush it up and you put it on there. If you got like oyster crackers, I was going to go there. I was going to go there.
Those work too because you can just throw those in. Usually I put like some shredded cheese on top.
Some best like sour cream with her is I'm not a big sour cream. Yeah. But there's something that people do, especially around here in this part of Wisconsin, that I cannot abide.
I cannot abide it where you do it with the elbow macaroni. I might get some pushback from this. That is disgusting. I'm not big on that. I'm not big on it, but I'm not big on it.
That's actually called Cincinnati style. Oh, when you have it with pasta. Oh, I didn't know that. I had to learn this just like a couple of years ago.
But apparently around here, that's the way you serve it. Yeah. And I'm like, no, thanks. No, just give me the chili. I don't I don't want the noodles. That's interesting. I hadn't thought of it. That would so local like that. But you read it.
I've had dinner at a couple of places, you know, and I've gone to a couple restaurants and had chili. And yeah, that's how it goes.
Where I grew up in northern Minnesota. No, we never had anything like that. It was just straight up chili. And like you said, you put your crackers in or whatever you want to put on top.
But no, you didn't put it over the noodles. What are the best cracker to use for chili? I think oysters, oyster crackers, you used a lot with soups and everything.
Yes. But I'm a, again, original. I like going to the traditional old saltines. Yep. I like using those. And I break them up a bit. I don't break them up too much.
So you get bigger chunks of cracker and like that's good crunch. Yeah. Because I like the crunch. And that's why I don't like the beans. The beans are squishy.
Also, it's a texture thing. It's all texture because anybody will tell you beans don't have much flavor. I mean, it's not for the most part.
It depends on the bean, but you're right. You know, you have to like salt them and stuff to get any flavor.
I'm just such a texture person with with what I eat and everything. I wonder if my, if I could ask my brain or my taste buds.
What matters more, the taste or the texture? I bring that up because I think there's a lot of us out there that I like that.
Or is it one of those things? Or is it something you like the taste enough of that you can handle? Even if it's a texture you don't like, but you love the flavor enough that you're willing to put up with it.
I can't think of it, but I know there are foods like that for me. I think a lot of people are like that.
So looking at this poll of how we like our chili in a bowl 1 out 52% on a hot dog 12% in a Frito chili pie 9%.
Fritos are okay too. I like Fritos and Fritos are really good at chili. They add a lot. French fries 8% over rice 6%.
That's it. I'm not with rice before. That's interesting. You're getting a little, I like rice a lot with a lot of things. I'm not big with it actually.
Yeah, I do like rice. I do like rice on a baked potato 4% garlic bread 3%. I'll take it with garlic bread spaghetti 2% looking at you Cincinnati.
What have you done to us? And why is it up here? We're nowhere near Cincinnati. I'd love to hear the history of that.
Me too. No idea. This is interesting with mac and cheese 2%. I would try that. I would try chili with mac and cheese. I love mac and cheese.
I think it's like more of a thing. It's a little dollop maybe on top. Yeah, mixing it together would be you know again with the macaroni in there. It's just a little much for me.
But I could I could use it with a bowl of mac and cheese with a little chili on top on a sloppy Joe 2% like it that way.
Wait a minute. How? Wait. What? What is that?
Sloppy Joe is kind of like. Is that already just done? I was going to say it, but I didn't feel as confident.
I appreciate you saying that. In this area as they call it or actually I'm trying to remember did they they had it up in they call
it's in North Dakota. They call it they call that barbecue. What what I use is called sloppy Joe throwing up and they call barbeque and I think
around here there's a few people that refer to it as that as well. But to me those are two different things. So do you put like the chili with the
Sloppy Joe? I guess I don't know. I mean it could you really tell the difference. I mean really I don't know if you'd even be able.
Huh. No. No. That'd be that'd be a little weird. I kind of want to try it just to see if I could tell the difference
between the two. But I yeah. Yeah. I have as a side note some years back my dad started making Sloppy Joe's in the
winner. Just he had a he had a bunch of ground brief and it didn't want it to go bad. So we wanted to use it.
And we just thought oh Sloppy Joe's will make that. So we had had hamburgers like eight times that week or something.
Um Sloppy Joe's in the winner. Awesome. Awesome. I don't know what it is. There's something about him in the winner.
That just like it adds a little bit more to it. It gives you a little feel of summer. And he's got a nice feel to it.
I just realized I just realized you're right. That's like a summer potluck picnic kind of thing.
I never think about doing it in the winter time. No. But that's a great idea. It's really good. We do it all the time now.
It's awesome. It's awesome. A few more quick stats. Our favorite chili toppings. Our cheese crackers and cornbread.
Okay. Love some good cornbread. Oh no. No, no, no, no, no, no. Cornbread. No, no, not for you.
No, not even with chili on it. I just I'm just a bread guy. I just love bread.
You're your carb dude. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Like 99% of my body. Yeah. My youngest is exactly like that too.
26% like it's spicy. 10% have a chili recipe that they'd rather not share. They want to keep a lock down.
Oh yeah. That's quite a few people. You like spicy chili? I love spicy chili. No one else my family does.
So I rarely get really spicy chili though. That's the rough part, man. That's that's rough.
14% of Americans say chili tends to make them kind of a little gassy.
A little bit. Well, if the beans are there, then yes. That's going to do that. Yeah. Yeah.
Of course. Interesting. Interesting stuff. Yeah. It does look like everybody knock on wood.
It does look like our computer is up. I think we're going to be good right now anyway. Nice work by you, Seth.
We will go ahead and do some musical chairs and by that I mean take a time out.
We will come back and we'll get into it being national walkie dog day. All right.
You got to get into that coming up here on the morning show at WFHR.
Welcome back to the show everybody.
We're going to get into that. We've got 90 of them and you're going to hear them all everybody.
Welcome back to the show 8.51 on the clock. Your host James here joined by Seth.
Thanks much for joining us and the best listeners in radio. When I say best listeners,
it's not just because when we go with our streaming ends, our listeners let us know right away.
We can start working out of the media at least, but your patience with us.
We really appreciate that everybody. Yes, we do.
And deeply appreciate it. Let's go ahead and see what's on your mind. Good morning. You're on the show.
Morning, guys. Hey, how's it going, man?
You're talking about chili.
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
And no noodles. I know people do it sometimes.
Stretch it out, make sure you have more.
Yeah. I used to do it.
I used to do it until you really suffer at our church.
I think it was a noodles on the side.
I didn't really like to make the noodles for it.
Oh, that's a good idea. They'll have them on the side if people want noodles.
Exactly. They can do it. I like just don't make some in, please.
But then I only talk about the sloppy joes.
I mean, I call barbecue sandwiches.
Sometimes we're gonna have to that was from Texas and if you met sloppy joes and he said barbecue sandwiches.
Mm-hmm. That was a hell of a swear word to him.
I bet. I bet. Yes.
Yeah.
Man, they take it serious in Texas.
Barbecue for sure.
All right, Dr. Barbecue and Texas barbecue.
And you know it.
Do you got a favorite? I mean, I've had the Carolinus.
I've had some KC barbecue.
But I gotta say Texas barbecue is above to me.
I really like the Carolinus.
I believe it was South Carolina.
It was a little sweeter. I think they put mustard in it.
They put mustard in it. That's what it is.
Yeah, and I learned that from Stephen Colbert.
I was a proud, proud South Carolina.
Yes, yes. I do like the South Carolina barbecue.
Probably that's probably number one for me.
But man, it's one a one b because Texas barbecue is just another level.
Well, if you look at it, you think about Texas barbecue.
I mean, I think of their brisket.
Yeah, they're brisket.
By far the best, you know.
But that when it comes to the other end of it.
I think Kansas City.
Barbecue is really good.
I know they're small.
A lot of their stuff.
They use a lot more dry roads.
Yes.
But I try to duplicate what they do.
And I fail.
I hear you. I hear you.
I feel like I do that with every recipe I try to do.
I can have the actual chef right next to me.
Or like telling me what to do.
And I feel like I still wouldn't get it close.
It happens to me anytime I'm trying to make somebody else's recipe.
If you ever go.
I do my room for stuff.
I mean, people say I do pretty good.
But to get there or stop you get the Carolina.
It's hard.
I mean, it allows them.
We were not in Texas a few years ago.
We were here.
I mean, just have that.
Oh, I bet.
I bet.
That's their stuff.
It's awesome.
I mean, I don't know if it's still out there.
It's a part of our future.
It's all thick.
I mean, it's pretty much as close as you can.
Is any type of barbecue smoked chops?
Something like that?
Yeah, those are the places.
I love those kind of places.
There's some good stuff.
And now I'm definitely, I don't know about you guys,
but I'm having chili this weekend for sure.
I'm definitely having some chili this weekend.
What's your appetite?
Always good to talk to you, man.
Thanks for the call.
All right, guys.
Have a great day.
You too.
Kevin, to you, Seth and I,
we able to talk food without Melissa.
We did.
Maybe she's mad now.
I think she might give...
If she gets mad about anything,
sometimes I pinch and hole her in topics.
It's been a long time.
But if you ever go to Kansas City,
go to Arthur Bryant's.
It's one of their famous barbecue places.
It's counter service.
You just go up to the counter or do your stuff
and then go sit down kind of cafeteria style.
It's a little good.
It's like an institution.
I hope it's still around, but it was great stuff.
If I got to choose between going to a fancy five-star restaurant
or going to a place that you just mentioned,
I don't even blink going right there.
I'm not against five-star restaurants and all that.
It's nice to go out and eat something like that sometimes.
And they got great food and everything.
But there's...
Give me no putting on heirs.
You're not dressed up or anything.
You're just there.
You're a rock or your, yeah, places like that.
I like places where you're going
and you dress like for the food.
Like, you know, okay, I'm not wearing white.
Yeah, you're not like that.
I like love that kind of stuff.
I am wearing this poncho for a reason.
Yes, yes.
The Washington Post just did a big story
about how skipping walks can significantly affect your dogs
emotional and physical well-being.
The writer's landlord just added offense to the yard
so she can let her dog outside now.
But she found out that that's not enough.
Those walks are still very, really important.
Okay.
So yeah, letting your dog outside in the back yard
to run around is great.
But they need more action than that.
Yeah.
Most yards don't offer enough stimulation.
They're too small and everything's too familiar.
They've smelled all of this already.
Gotcha, okay.
One expert compared it to reading the same book over and over again
or expecting to have fun while hanging out in the bathroom.
And that is, those are both really good cops.
Yeah, totally.
Walks are good for three key reasons.
They give them exercise, a sense of companionship from you.
And it gives them the mental stimulation they need.
The backyard isn't as good because they don't get to see new things
or more importantly sniff new things.
Very important.
I like that comparison about the reading the same book
over and over all the time.
I've always thought of dogs like when a dog puts his head out the window
or a dog, you know, taking it for a walk
and wants to stop every five seconds to smell things.
That's flipping through the channels.
That's flipping through the channels.
You wouldn't want to be deprived of that.
You love being able to do variety, right?
Yeah.
You love variety.
Everything going forward is variety.
Everything going forward is options.
Go to the grocery store and try to get sugar.
Look at the section.
It's huge, yeah.
Go to any coffee shop and just try to order coffee.
Anything.
What do we not do that for our animals?
Why would we not do that for a man's best friend?
Yes.
It doesn't make any sense.
The back, ideally, you should never rush your dog through a walk
or force them to stop sniffing at the fire hydrant.
It's like going to an art museum you're really into
and having someone hurry you along saying,
let's go, let's go.
We're just doing this for exercise.
Stop looking.
Okay, you saw that. Go, go.
Now, this seems like it may seem like to some that don't maybe
things or don't do these things on a regular basis.
It may seem like a lot.
And it is.
Because having an animal should not be easy.
Having an animal, having a creature in your life
or living a living being,
a living breathing thing that you take care of
shouldn't be easy.
That's the point.
That's part of the point.
It's worth having.
Man, even just having a fur brother can be difficult and can be a lot.
Even if it's not your pet, right?
I got very little time on my hands
and energy on the weekends.
But I get a walk in with that dog, especially with this weather.
Oh yeah, it's gorgeous out here.
Because having an animal is not just about you.
It's about the animal.
If that's not your bag, then don't have an animal.
Nobody's forcing you to do that.
But we brought these animals into our homes.
We domesticated them.
It's on us as human beings to take care of them.
We don't treat babies any different.
And I'm not saying that there's a connection between the two
or you would rank them as the same or anything like that.
They both depend on you.
That simply is possible.
It's different, but they both depend on you for their survival.
It goes a lot farther than we realize.
And you will see the effects of this in your animal.
You will see the joy in your animal.
When you take the time to do these things,
when you give them more of your attention.
We're going to give you plenty of attention coming up in the next hour.
We've got good stuff coming up for you right here at 975 FM 1320 AM WFHR.
