Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off with us right here at W.F.A. Chuck
Localee Grove Radio. Got your host James J. I am joined by CEO of your United Way of Southwood and the Amos Counties and not winded at all
We can't even get this show started. We can't even get it going
We're already off the rails. We didn't even hit the mic side. I love it. That's a Friday show for you everybody
We're going to have some flood. We got good things lined up for you this morning. We're going to get into
Those those Valentine's flowers. Can we help you make them last longer? Oh, let me touch on that before as a wrap up
Any Valentine flowers any of them got four common things that can ruin our day and how to move past them
Oh, I like that. I like it. They give you a backup or a way to get out around them or something because you know
So you did hang on to right? Yes. Yes. All that coming up for you
We'll also get into the l cafe birthday and anniversary club for the whole weekend
And we're going to make somebody a star the day with our friends from callers
Terry and I play a famous theme song be listening for that call up and you win free callers just like that
All that coming up for us. We may be joined by Mike Clements at the start of the nine o'clock hour
We'll see about that. Hopefully. Oh, we haven't gotten to talk to Mike in a while to be great to catch up with him
I know he was at the Super Bowl over the weekend. Oh, he was
It's almost been a week. He's probably bound to be somewhat recovered by now. He might still be in Vegas
He might be
The life that Mike lives. It feels like a good one to me. It feels like a fun one to me
We'll talk with him hopefully a little later
Terry and I just have a touch of entertainment news for you
Little Paul McCartney news and what's new in your theaters
We'll get into some of that and plenty more we got some that ain't right stories
Local good stories of the day including a bunch of great local events going on this weekend Terry that we want to touch on
With a great good friends of ours
We got a great event coming up in a couple of weeks with power of the purse. That's right around the corner
Yeah, looking forward to that on March 12th. So yeah, that is crazy less than a month really is
March 12th we have our 13th annual. I can't believe it's been going on that long. Yeah
So it's our 13th power of the purse. This is an opportunity for women in the community to come together
It's a happy hour style event from five until seven thirty
And we will be at Bullseye Golf Club. It is a purse um silent auction
Also, we have plenty of raffles and fun things. We're going to do
Some bingo for our door prizes and you know, just just a lot of fun that's going on
With the idea of raising as many dollars as possible for early grade learning and literacy
Right here in our community
So not a single dollar from the fundraiser leaves the community, which I think is important all of it is invested right here in local kids
And we do that in a variety of ways, but most most importantly probably is the Dalai partner meditation library program
This is a book gifting program for children from birth to age five
And so in theory if a child gets signed up right away
They could have a 60 book library by the time that they turn five
But they but they can sign up anytime
So if you are listening and you your child resides in the zip codes of Wisconsin Rapids Port Edwards and Acusa Rudolph for Vesper
On they qualify for free books a book comes in the mail every month really cool kids don't even get mail
They don't even know what mail is anymore. So so that's fun. It has their name on it
And then Dali at the Dali Wood Foundation has reading interventionists on staff that are selecting these books
And I think the other really kind of neat thing is inside the the jacket of the book often
There's some some tips and strategies you know about so when you're reading the book with the child
Yes, that's very important or even if the child is kind of self guiding right through the book
But then sometimes it'll say you know, maybe the theme is an outside walk is the book and then they'll say well
You know, ask the child about their favorite walk or you know, just it just prompts some questions to engage it in conversation
And so it's it's really fun, but that program we have been running since 2017 and it is just it is remarkable
It I mean, it's I can't say enough good about it. Yeah, I challenge someone to find something bad about it
Yes, and so you know super cool and that is a global program
So Dali is in on three continents now with this program
And it's just yeah, it's super cool, but it's a great great investment
And that's where a lot of the power the purse funds go we also have reading mentor programs
So we are in five local elementary schools working with kids just on practice reading right like you don't you don't have to be a reading interventionist to be a mentor
It's just helping them with their practice
And then also classroom grants that support literacy so we
We help to fund you know a variety of different things that classroom teachers or reading interventionists or
Maybe building principles, you know come up with as far as need for supportive materials around literacy
So
um, you know
I can't talk enough about literacy and what that means and then how foundational it is for kids
But this is a great opportunity to support it again March 12th power the purse tickets are on sale at uwswac
org or of course you can always stop by and see us at 351 Oak Street here in Wisconsin
I've mentioned many times in how thankful I am to you to the united way
Learning about the imagination library dolly parts imagination library. It's something I've done last three years
I'll do it a fourth year this year
And and look look man, I work in radio. I don't have $30 to just waste
I looked into that program a lot
I took you on your word and I trust the united way, but I can't help myself
I look into these things and I went down a rabbit hole about three four years ago when I first looked into this
And I found out things that I didn't even know like on the surface like there's stuff that
They the program is so great and it's got so many wonderful layers to it
But it's so humble that it doesn't often brag or anything about something great things that it does
It's a great great program and the grant part of this is not to be taken lightly either
When we know we've got a lot of our own teachers out there buying supplies themselves and things
It's so cool that the united way covers these kind of bases
And I'd like to think that this to me personally just my own opinion
This is the greatest investment you can make is in our future wherever that might be
So whenever you're investing in our future in our kids in literacy
You're putting back you're putting into our you're investing in our future
It's a great thing to be able to do and you know you're gonna get some nice stuff out of this too
I mean those purses are nice from what I understood. Oh yeah
It's fabulous and it's fun to shop for them
You know our women united group is just so passionate about about the work of
You know early grade learning and literacy and and so I think that that's part of it too right like if you can get a backing of really good people
We have 45 members of women united and they are all just
Passionate about this beyond belief. So so I think that really helps too and you know you reference the $30
You I would challenge someone to find books of this quality
That's that's our cost is $30 a year per child not $30 a month $30 a year per child
That's crazy. So I mean it's it's remarkable and and we and there's never any cost to the family ever
For four books
But we do put the opportunity out there like what you reference so that someone from the community could sponsor
You know could say hey, I'll donate 30 bucks and help help sponsor a child to get books. So
Right now we are able to meet the need of any child every child that lives in Southwick County
To to be able to receive books. So again, if you're if you're listening
And your child's not receiving books. We encourage you to you know
Check that out get the information get the sign up form into us
But the catch is the child has to reside in Southwick County
We we don't have the capacity to you know buy for people's grandkids who are in you know
Whatever green made. Yeah, yeah, like you have to seek out that program in your own community
But if a child lives here, we definitely will make it happen. You can find out more at uwswac.org
We'll wrap up our show talking a little united way as well to get some other things want to make sure we touch on Terry
And be sure to follow the united way on social media. It is a great follow keep up the dead and everything going on in your community
Uh, because you never know. Uh, you I mean we may need a program Terry for animals that steal our door dash
Um, I don't know why you're laughing. This is a serious subject
Uh, it's serious in Florida a Florida woman took out her phone and started recording when a trio of masked bandits
stole her door dash taco order from in front of her door. Okay, hold on
She instead of shewing them away. She recorded them. She lost her own tacos. Yeah, I don't I don't feel sorry for her around that one
Katarina service said that she opened the front door of her West Palm Beach apartment to retrieve her door dash order from talking tacos
Uh, great name great name
But she instead came face to face with three raccoons who were enjoying her late night meal
Uh
She she took out her phone and recorded a video of this scene which she posted on tic tacu
So it sounds like they were already eating it. Okay, okay, once they started hissing
I shut the door so fast. I was like they can have that the carna carna sada
Those must be killer tacos. I'm just saying. Yeah, right. Yeah. She said she looked out after the raccoons had left and discovered
They had eaten everything except the tortillas
They're not really into flower. I guess that you know
Okay, now let's be this little family of raccoons. Isn't that hilarious? Do you think they just troll that street watching for heck yeah
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, I
Look, I'm no I'm no Mr. Doolittle already think but I I feel very confident that these raccoons are I mean she should consult with her neighbors and see yeah
Yeah, yeah, wait like hey, if you had this happened, you're like funny
That's hilarious. Uh, the video is just as funny the video is just as fun because they there's no like
Like tension with these like they're looking over their shoulder rate. They're sitting down
They might as well pull out some music or or like pull out the TV like they watch some shows while we're sitting here in the hallway
Eating somebody else's food like there's no
Tension in there in there in the oven all you know
And okay, and this is just my bias and double standard and I'm not saying that I've never ever used Dordash
But here's the thing like having pizza delivered to me is just normal right like you order a pizza. They'll deliver it
But I'm kind of like don't be so lazy. Just go to the taco place yourself. Yeah
It's kind of there's really no difference
Well, I mean honestly, I don't know what do you do because you can't you can't get mad at anybody for this one
This is just it's on you. Yeah, and you know if you um, yeah, if you drive through taco and taco yourself
If you probably don't have to worry about the raccoons unless they're in your back seats, I mean
Nobody is happier about this story than talking tacos. They have been they're getting press and pee
Yeah, advertising they never expect I think it's fabulous. They should wait a minute
Did we miss this Terry? Is this been right been under our noses the whole time? Did they plant the raccoons? They planted the raccoons
I think now you're talking trash about the tacos. I did mean to but I mean talking trash tacos
That's really better. That was another business this aside business didn't work out as well
You know one of my favorite restaurants down in golf shores their thing that we always order is called garbage can tacos
And it's they serve it on the top of a trash you know like a silver trash can like it serve like that
So that maybe think about talking trash tacos, but you know I
Maybe they're just a little street vendor too, so they're gonna you know
This is gonna they're gonna be like in a taco truck now. Maybe they're moving up
Just because they came north and got three raccoons
You know
It's funny these raccoons too just they're they look like the California raccoons
There's no I don't know in Florida how this has been in California raccoons don't have a predator
So they just get huge they just get all big and everything out there
Yeah, they warned me about that, but it still doesn't prepare you until you actually see these raccoons
It looked like little hippos
I wonder if that's how it is in Florida, you know, I think maybe the Dardash driver released them or they're working in tandem
Right, I just dropped the bag released the beast there's definitely there's definitely they're working as a team
This one for sure. We're not gonna let that story go. We will die
We will look for a follow-up on that for the meantime
I think we should send her 20 bucks and have her order again
And then we should see
I love this idea. I love that idea. We're working on that in the break
We'll take a cog I will check in with our partners
And we'll be right back with the LCFA birthday and anniversary club on the morning show here at WFHR

I don't know you're inspired by names I think that's cool
I don't know where I don't know that I haven't really gave it much thought before I think it's because I I feel like I have a boring name
And I think that's part of it. I think that because James I don't mind my name
But it is kind of boring and common when you have a nickname of Vincenzo
I mean
We also wish a happy birthday to Dorothy Olson happy birthday Dorothy another great name Dorothy great name

I don't know what you're talking about
I really don't I have no clue
Let's see. Let's take a look at it. We're getting ahead of ourselves. That's
Oh, it's like day way away deflecting February 20th. Focus on today. Okay. All right. All right. The wonderful people of today
The weekend is 34 today
Great great singer songwriter. Right?
He um his star has lost a little of its shine and it's interesting to me how it's not from his music
His music has been very popular his half-time show a year or so ago did very well
He did an HBO movie and it did not do well
Oh, I didn't realize that he was kind of dabbling in yeah
I'm sure him and his publicists are very happy you and anybody else that does not know about that
Because it did not go well and he did not do he didn't do well in it and it's a shame because he's um
I I don't mean it's a shame in the sense of like I have any stake in this or anything
I like the guy, but I don't I'm not a huge huge fan or anything
But it's I like to see artists take chances, but you feel for when you're
So when you're producing something like this and it's just really not good. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of be obvious
Yes, yes, why does it I mean is it because of what's invested to that point like why does it move forward?
Absolutely, it's exactly that Terry
So we've seen this a little bit recently in the last couple of years where some
It's becoming a thing now where insurance and like they ensure these movies
Uh, that's every movie is insured every move from the most independent movie ever seen to the biggest blockbuster
And there was a back girl movie that Warner Brothers was working on tirelessly for like two years
They do it. They look at it. They're like we don't like this. We don't think it's good enough
It's cheaper for us we to collect the insurance and just
Just cut our losses and buy losses. So there's a completely made a back girl movie that nobody's ever going to see
Because they actually they were afraid to take the chance with it and that it bombs and it hurts the WB
Uh, reputation and all this it's actually they they know this way
Well, we're not going to make as much as we thought we might make but at least we make something
Yeah, we don't hurt our reputation. And if it's not good, it's not good. Yeah
Now HBO was the ones that did the TV show not as great of an insurance
Deal on something like that. So with something like that you're almost like well, we got we we made our bed
We got it now. We got to sleep in it or if they've produced it for their own network like
Probably their loss isn't as great
So now I just but on the ABC CBS NBC level like something like that
You've got a to hold different ballgame where it's it the shows are so affordable and the insurance is so balanced with it that you're almost better
You're okay, I can put it out there. Oh, this isn't doing good. We're gonna pull it in two weeks
Yeah, we're gonna pull it in one. Yeah, we've got plenty of stories of shows that actually like there's a story of a show that was
cancelled like mid like while it was on the air
Like it was a long time ago, but it happens sometimes
I was then he just got it like this blank screen like little things full of test pattern
So test pattern on the
The weekend 34 great singer songwriting
Elizabeth Olson is 35 Scarlett Witch in the MCU and Juan division incredible actor. She is good. She's very good
She is the oh is she the youngest or oldest of the Olson's
I don't know. I know that she's got the American Ashley that they're the full house kid
I feel like the twins are older, but I don't know that they are. Yeah
Uh, it turns out she was in that all of them seem talented. Don't get me wrong
But she's like seems like the really really talented one
Uh, one of the better actors in the game today. Meshira Ali is 50 wow 50 one an Oscar for both moonlight and green book
Wait, what does wow 50 mean? Uh, just I didn't expect him to be 50. He's he does not look 50 to me
No, no, he does not look 50 looks younger than I am
He played he's playing blade in the upcoming MCU remake
One of the best actors out there is great also great voice actor too
Uh, one of the better nicknames in sports history the drone the bus bettis is 52 the bus
Retired Pittsburgh Steelers running back
Want a Super Bowl and not sure if he's in the Hall of Famer. I can't think of that
Christopher Eccleson is 60
He's a Malikith in Thor the dark world. He's a destero in GI Joe
He is currently on the new season of true detective
As he's on there and doing a really good job with Jody foster on that show
But I think most people will know him as one of the the first doctors in Dr. Who
Andy Taylor is 63 the Duran Duran guitarist
Uh, not the Andy Taylor from the you know the department
Um the Mainberry already right
Uh, yeah, he's I mean, uh, a big part of Duran Duran, Andy Taylor and big Duran Duran fan here. Love Duran Duran
John macro is 65 come on 65. Do you think he's matured at all or no way? No way. I'm 65
And I love the idea of John Rackero. Just like no way
I I don't know. And is he still like using the tennis racket when he say that or not really
He's uh, he's married to parody smith
And they seem like an actually like a good couple for each other. Like a good match. Yeah, like a good one. Yeah, nice
I see a 66 original rap original gangster rap uh
In the greatest I think you can make the argument I see as one of the weirdest greatest arcs of any career
That there's bed. He starts out as a gangster hip-hop writer and everything and he's but there are generations now that know him as plague a police officer
Isn't that funny. It's awesome. It's a and he is one of those guys that is really worked very hard to not
To certainly have a police held accountable, but also to build that bridge where he's from and where where he grew up
He is very much about. Hey, we need police. We need this. We need that our our our neighborhood and then they have a connection to get along to be able to work together and everything
He's been an integral part of that, but isn't it funny. There's just something about him. That's just likable
Yeah, you know what I mean like I don't know. I don't know what it is
But there's just something that I don't know. Yeah
The great Lavar Burton is 67 today
He was of course on Star Trek
Roots Kuntikinté and Roots great actor a lot of people and most of us know
They grew up on PBS's reading rainbow
It's Lavar Burton's butterfly and mascara
Some people no longer with us. Sunny Bono would have been celebrating his 89th birthday today
And Hugh Beaumont born in the state 1909 ward cleaver. I'll leave it to be ver. Oh, I was like I think I know that name
Yeah, it took me a second to I had to think about it taking a quick look at Saturday, birthdays hit airst Ed Sheeran is 33 on Saturday
I'm a fan. Yeah, he's good. He's good. Great singer song about our great one. It's been quiet lately
Yeah, for a few years. Yeah, but I still like I don't know. I like it. I can pull up
You know his I get I pull up his playlist or just his album and listen
I want to say it was either late last year early this year
Saw him doing some acoustic shows. Oh, I don't know, but I it may actually not I think it was late last year
Yeah
Joseph Gordon Levin is 43 Arthur an inception
He as John in the dark night rises with actually going to be the next Robin
Edward Snowden and Snowden
Jimny cricket in the Pinocchio movie, but a lot of us again remember him as Tommy on third rock from the Sun
At Joseph Gordon Levin great actor. He does a really cool thing too. He's got a
An app that really helps out artists and and starting out and getting a break or getting noticed in that
It's a really cool program that he runs he he works really hard. I'm trying to give people a break
Whatever art you come from trying to give you a chance and I will always back people that do that
It's something that's very important to me. I think it should be important every artist when you get you you climb up that ladder
You don't pull it up behind you. That's not the game. You keep it down. You you let others climb up with you
I think to me. I agree. I look at it
Paris Hilton is 43 today. She's actually worth 300 million dollars
Like that seems low for the Hilton family. I think so too, but then just I mean just
I'm just gonna stereotype like just look at her. How much does she spend oh my god? Yeah
I mean just her little dogs alone. What about the dog purse? I mean, yeah, I don't know
That's I'm actually a little surprised that she hasn't been in the public eyes much as I thought she would
Yeah, I thought she would be too and I honestly, I think it's kind of nice how she just kind of faded off
Maybe and maybe it was just a maturity thing, you know as she grew up and just
It's not popular to say or anything like that the little tiny bits
I've seen over her over the last 10 years it looks like she's matured some yeah
I think so too and I guess the other thing you know when you think about her net worth or whatever
I mean she what she's not like the only heir to the hilton, you know
Fortune so
Jason Ritter is 44 today. He is the great John Ritter son
A Kevin probably saves the world comedy centrials another period. He's been in a bunch of stuff. It's a good actor
He's a good actor. I don't even know who he is, but I just love his dad because I love you see oh John Ritter
John Ritter will always celebrate because I feel like I underappreciated him when he was around and I'll always over celebrate that guy
Let's see here Billy Joe Armstrong is 52 lead singer and songwriter for Green Day
Let's see
Michael Jordan is 61 to mile the greatest of all time
Actually, if if I'm being honest, I think
Michael was the greatest score of all time
I think the greatest shooter of all time is Steph Curry and I think the greatest winner of all time is Will Chamberlain
Or I'm sorry Bill Russell
Because Bill Russell has more rings than Michael or anybody else like he's he's got two hands worth of rings Bill Russell
Also did it part oh god is last ring. I believe in a coaching wall playing like you're never gonna top Bill Russell
Michael's great and in my personal for our generation and in generations going forward the code
But even I'll admit as a die-hard Chicago bullfad that Michael you know see now
I'm thinking I might have to dust off my old Michael Jordan jersey for tomorrow. Yeah
Helbert celebrate Michael turned in 61 to mile and Michael along with Larry the cable guy are 61 tomorrow
I love that. I love that
Didn't see that one covered
Later the cable guy pretty funny and oh yeah, but like an unlikely pair to put together. Yes
I love the idea of them celebrating their birthday together. I love that just a just a shot of those two at the bar
It's yeah
Lou Diamond Phillips could celebrate with them. He's 62 tomorrow
Richie valance and LaBamba
Stand in the liver
Stargate universe longmire he was on and of course young guns great actor
Love Lou Diamond Phillips
And then also would have been celebrating a birthday tomorrow
A lot of people will say the greatest running back of all time Jim Brown born in 1936 passed away in 2023
Played for the Cleveland Browns were tired on the set of the dirty dozen. I'm gonna get you sucka
Mars attacks. I mean good actor too. Yeah Jim Brown and Michael Jordan celebrated birthday together
That's pretty cool. That is pretty cool and Taylor Hawkins would have been celebrating a birthday on Saturday as well the
few fighters former drummer and
Hal Holbrook legendary actor magnum forest all the presidents men the firm
A lot of people I think would also know Hal from his work on designing women. He was married to
Doris
Oh
That not Doris Burke. He was married to the older the more the older one than on the show
She was the head of the business
Dark hair. Yep, those two were married. He we guest spotted on that show a little bit
And it was the last acting we'd see him do and I always thought it was so cool
It's why I remember it is he got to act with his wife in the last scenes that he would do. Oh, yeah
That's just it's my romantic heart. I think that's just beautiful quick look at Sunday the 18th birthday's
Not too much there
Molly Ringwald is 56 on Sunday
Molly Ringwald. Where the heck is she? Yeah, yeah
Dr. Dre is 59 on Sunday
Van a white is 67 on Sunday. John Travolta is 70 on so John Travolta is 70 wow
I love John Travolta. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, I got none against John Travolta

Thank you Milo. Well, we'll hang on the line get a little information from me in a minute. You're our newest star of the day
Already
Terry this song
Who uh, let's see here. I wanted it. I wanted to double check so cheers ran from 1982 to 1993 a total of 275 episodes
um
The the theme song I was trying to see who wrote the theme song
Yeah, I haven't been able to fight I'll fight it before the show ends though. I'll find out who did I had it in a computer
Kick click they'd out on me though, but this is is this the most classic theme song like this is got to be in the top five most classic theme songs of all time
Depending yeah depending on your generation, but yeah, I think I mean like I said even I knew it
Yeah, but that's a really strong point you make there by a generation
I think that it's very different like we play my three sons and for some generations
They're gonna know that right away for others probably wouldn't know who have any idea same thing with cheers
That's a great point um and wait for me to skew younger nice shop jigs
But it's a classic it's a classic and and I think that you hear it and you immediately wait for the theme song
You're the reframe yeah
And it's something that you hear it you I don't know about anybody else, but immediately in my head nor I was just gonna say
Who is the first character that you think of when you get to that uh, he wasn't my favorite character
But norm is for someone or a moody pops up for me. What is second is right there at number two right there
We'll take a quick commercial break. We'll be back with more fun on the boarding show here at WF HR locally grown radio
You
Welcome back everyone
Morning show here at WF HR
locally grown radio tarry and james hanging out with you with the little dian carol
And west of the moon
We'll build a dreamhouse
Oh
I could just listen to the woman all day all day. I could listen to her
She could just be reading a phone book and I'd be like oh, I can't wait until she gets to the jays and so
So just love her
Oh, not yeah, not long not well actually with her. Yeah, by tech for me
It would kind of and I don't mean this in a bad way, but it would like lilt me to sleep. Oh, yeah
It would be relaxing and just maybe that's what I need to do
I need to list the word diet carol going to bad. That's it. That might be awesome
We got a couple stories to get to before the top of the hour 9 o'clock hour jam pack
We're hoping to hear from my clements. We've got a couple of other things lined up for you
I'm gonna get into a little bit of entertainment news
Paul McCartney's in the news along with his base
And we're gonna let you know it's new in theaters a little bit later in the 9 o'clock hour
Also want to get into a couple of interesting things. We've got lined up for you one of them
Where's oh, yeah, dictionary.com added 327 new terms again. We're gonna go through all of them
We just did this. I know we did just well. It's probably last year, but it feels like we just did it
It just feel like we did just it. Can there be that many new words?
We'll find out we got that coming up for you everybody. You think bros in there. Let's go. Yeah, bro, bro
Yeah, that's probably about
Right now, let's kind of it feels like kind of the wrapping up a Valentine's Day conversation
Are the flowers you got for Valentine's Day already wilting
Some guy on tiktok tested a bunch of hacks to see it if adding different things to the water really makes flowers last longer
He tried nine different things and put a signal single rows in each base
He added pennies bleached with sugar red bull unpopped popcorn
Seven up a double a battery denture tablets aspirin and a regular old flower food
And that's uh the stuff that you get sometimes in a book
It comes with it. Yep. Thank you shout us one rose greenhouse that taught me what that is. I did not know
You weren't putting it in your coffee room. No, no
I was pretty good on my my my my my bank in double cheeseburg
So did any of them actually work for more than one the answer was yes
The hacks that did the worst were bleach aspirin and seven up well bleach
What are you thinking putting bleach in near anything living? Yeah, that that that only I actually felt bad for the flower
That guy probably in a tide pod. Yeah
Red Bull didn't seem to make it much a huge of difference at all didn't seem to like it did not grow wings and it didn't have fly
So apparently red wings does red bull does not give you wings apparently that's false advertise and maybe doesn't rot your gut
I mean, I'm not a fan, but I'm just saying no not a fan. I'm not a fan of any energy drinks. I'll be completely honest
I'm the interlining of my stomach is already rough. I don't need that stuff
The denture tabs popcorn and battery did seem to help the roses still looked pretty okay a week later
But these last two seem to make the biggest difference if you want your flowers to last longer add pennies or old regular old flower food
Yeah, the flower food of course is going to help
Hello, it's engineered and formulated for that purpose. Yeah, but the pennies thing it feels like that. I've heard that before
Okay, so pennies if you put you know regular like a copper penny a one cent penny is what we're saying
um in tulips they will make tulips stay straight
Whoa, so you know if you just put them in the bottom of the vase
Because otherwise they tend to droop or start to go like sideways
They'll follow the light sometimes, but if you put those in a vase of tulips they will keep your tulips upright
I've never heard anything about roses, but but it works. I mean, I've done it plenty of times
So I love life hacks. I can't get enough of them. I think they're awesome
But what I love them as much about hearing something about that
I did not know that before. Thank you very much for sharing. I think that's really cool
What I also love about it is the idea of how do we figure this out?
Like who would somebody's walking around you a bunch? I got all these dark pennies
They like fell like a couple fell into their vase and like oh, I forgot about them
They'll say my flowers are growing better, but there's got to be something about I mean, I don't know that it's actually pennies
It must be copper, right? Like I mean, it must be the actual element, but
Yeah, it's pretty cool. I can remember, you know, you're talking about
This is talking about how do you extend the life of a flower, right?
But I always remember like it was a big thing. Well, it was for me anyway
I don't know like back in the 80s and 90s like you would want to dry the like
Keep the flowers. Yes, I remember that
And we used to spray the live in heck out of them with aquanette hairspray. Is that what okay?
So I had a girlfriend that I'd get a rose for like
You know, every once in a while or whatever and she had like four or five of them over her bed
Yeah, like you're gonna hit like hang upside down to dry them or whatever
And I could never I'd sit there sometimes waiting for them to like one of the days to fall off or something
They'd wouldn't move. They were so that's what she used
You know, and I'm just giving a shout out to Pam has flowers out there
And the second I walked in here this morning, they smell absolutely wonderful. So you know, I'm not
Speaking of who they came from that I'm saying wherever they came from wherever they were purchased from they are
Gorgeous and they smell wonderful. I
I can't think Pam enough for the little things she she does so many huge mungus things around here and along with that
Does these the side things like put decorating in that that we just I I love it. I can't get enough of it. Appreciate you Pam
We got right now to wrap up the hour for common things that can ruin your day and some good advice to help you move past it
Uh, so I think this is fantastic. And this is so relatable
Traffic I I could be one of the most calm human beings you will ever come across
It is very hard to get under my skin
If there is any advantage to having a rough childhood it is that as an adult you you really have tough skin
You have to you're built a teflon until I get on the road. Are you a road rager? No, no
But I am I
It's possible for me to be I'm capable of it like anybody out there
But I'm a little more I think I'm a little more capable of it than others
Just just being honest. Oh, I get irritated too. Yeah, but I'm the guy that I might be even more annoying in some ways because I won't shout out my window
It's all inside. Oh, yeah, it's all inner you know, like I'm just
Yeah, I'm not yelling out the window or flipping anybody off or anything like that
But sometimes you're like
Being real about a two in this day and age. I'm not taking that chance
I'm not I'm not flicking somebody off or something like that. I don't know who they are
I'm not taking that chance. No, I'm pretty I can handle my own, but I don't know what's going on in that other
Yeah, I agree. Yeah, uh can't oh, so traffic. It's stressful
The best thing you can do is to use the time doing something you enjoy like listening to us on the radio
But not not scrolling your phone. No, no, but audiobooks podcast that stuff's fine
But anything that doesn't take your eyes off the road
I cannot stress how many times in a small town like a medium-sized town like ours
I've got somebody and I'm like
What are they doing? What are they looking at their phone? Is they're turning into the lane? Are they that kind of thing or the next time
You're at a stoplight. Just look at the cars next to you
Got it. We got to stop it. We got a especially I don't think people realize this is of all the privilege driving
Fones and cars all of this is it that far fetched to think that we might get a law where there no phones and cars
Like just or you have to turn your phone off when you get in the car or something like I don't I mean that sounds extreme
But so is but it out what's happening? It almost seems like an opportunity around technology
That that the car I mean because I don't know
I don't know a lot because a law is only as good as the integrity of the people that are you know
But but I just wonder about technology like that a car could
Immobilize your phone, but still work
You don't I mean like if it was connected like you could still make a call or receive a call or something
But not that you're like
Moving the phone. Yeah, yeah, you know, this isn't what would happen
But I do love the idea of it big like like when you have a DUI or something and you have to blow into the
Like you touch it you hit your you hit your you know your button to turn it on and it like zaps you
Canceled plants
Our brains have a tendency to turn something small into something bigger like a friend if a friend cancels plans last minute
We start wondering if they still like us or something like that. Keep in mind. They do the same thing
I think that we think we're the only people in the world that do this
99% of people out there do the same thing chances are it has nothing to do with you
It is just a random thing and if you just have that friend that always bails. Yeah, yeah
They suck. They always bail, you know, I just don't make it a thing. I've got that. Yeah. Oh, yeah
Weather our mood can be impacted by the weather like when it's gloomy or raining like when it doesn't snow the whole winter
Yeah, yeah, little things
Just little things we might feel less motivated to get out of the house
That's one of those ones where I you lean into I think you lean into it
So we don't have it, but we you know, you try to find ways to make most out of the situation
But you know, you do hear too and I am a winter fan so I'm not dizzy
But like you hear you know, you hear of people saying you know the winter blues or the winter blues and
And I do think though when we go long times without sunshine
I do think that it affects people and and yes
You have to choose to get past it and still go out and still but but at the same time
I think that it just really can just sucks
Just can suck some people down
I think it is somebody grew up in a in a house of mental health has been a conversation every day since I was a kid long before it became nitch to talk about
I've studied this I genuinely think that
The thing that keeps people from doing stuff is not so much depression as it is motivation
No very very few people out there want to be sad or down
But to get yourself out of it that motivation to get out of it is so difficult for some and for most it's not everybody
Just getting out and going for a little walk
And it's the last thing you want to do and that's the best time to do it
Is when you don't want to do it. You know what I mean like make your just make yourself do it and take
And as far as looking at ways or you know to move past some of these frustrations and everything
That's one of the biggest ones take the wins
Not everything has to win be winning the Super Bowl
Sometimes hey, I got up and I got out today. That's a win. That's okay to take small victories and fresh air
There's just nothing. There's nothing like it
Finally on this list are appearance. Tell me about it. So
So stuff like having a bad hair day or when the scale says something you don't want to in the morning or something like that
The best way to get past these quote daily annoyances is to acknowledge the emotions that came with them
Without letting them negativity take over
Setbacks are a part of life
But if you focus on the things that you can control you'll keep some of the negativity at bay. I mean, you know
Put on something other than sweatpants. Yes. Yes. Yes. Try it. Try it. Give it a shot
Honestly, I think that's something that's very
When I get when I get into my ruts or something I tend to not care as much about my appearance
A lot of people out there. I think that's very relatable
One of the ways getting myself out of that rut is shaving or or just you know what today
No, today I'm doing the opposite. I'll make myself look good today. I like I'm gonna put on some real clothes and go to whatever
You know go grocery shop. Just something. Yes. Uh those are those are wins and
And you're gonna be future you is going to be so thankful that you did that because more than likely
You're not enjoying being in that rut. You're not enjoying being in that you deserve to enjoy life every day
None of this is guaranteed
Every day should be a day to enjoy every day. Well, I'm taking care of your physical health. Yeah
Just for yourself, you know, just makes such a huge difference too
And and I'm not suggesting it's easy when you kind of get in that rut, but you gotta you gotta climb out of it
I I'm right with you on that. I don't want any of this to sound like oh just do it
Like you know that that's the one of the most frustrating things in the world. Well quit being sad like who wants to be?
No very very very few people just you know what I'm gonna be sad today
Like no, no nobody chooses that everybody's trying to get out of it
Being up
Being a positive instead of a negative goes a lot farther with this whether you were the person trying to help somebody or you're that person
Well, and you know it is do something nice for someone grumpy day. That's true. That's true
So um, so unless you are so choose are you the grump or are you doing the nice thing?
Yeah, yeah, and and you can make that choice every day
You know even on not national grouch day or or do something nice for a grouch day
I do I do love the idea of somebody that doesn't know that then you're doing something for them
Hey, why'd you do that for me? Well, I want to do something nice for a grouch
Yes, I do
Let me grab this mirror for you
It Terry just pulled out of here
We'll take a time out. We'll go ahead and have some fun when we come back on the morning show here at WF HR locally grown radio
