Hour 2: The State of Dating…

Mornings with WFHR · Wed Feb 14, 2024

One.

And that's what you need to know.

I'm Melissa K.

W.F.H.R.

And W.I.R.

I News.

Good morning, Wisconsin.

Good morning, world.

It's a new day.

Thanks for kicking it off with us right here at W.F.H.R.

Locally grown radio.

Got your host, James J.M. behind the mic.

I am joined by Melissa K.

Good morning.

Seth Havhacker.

Good morning.

And the best listeners in radio.

Thanks for joining us, everybody.

Hope you're having a good Friday Eve out there.

Happy Valentine's Day to everybody.

Yes, indeed.

And we want to start off wishing you a very happy Valentine's Day to our winner of our contest.

Yeah.

Okay.

Raquel Novak.

Yeah.

Congratulations.

Appreciate everybody that played along.

Thank you so much to all you participants that spread the love and shared your love stories with us.

We appreciate you.

Big, big thank you to our friends at the Hotel Mead, one of our greenhouse and family natural foods.

All right.

More on them a little bit later.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I thought we'd pause the entertainment stories today.

We really have a whole lot there.

So I wanted to just continue with some of the some of the love conversation.

Some of the other interesting things.

But this one is actually I think pretty noteworthy.

So we're going to pause the Valentine talk for a second and get into America's top health questions.

Ooh.

Interesting.

If you've ever heard the term cyber cybercordia?

Cybercordia.

It's when you obsessively Google health stuff online.

Oh.

Oh.

Oh, like a hyper-conductor.

Yeah.

There you go.

Yeah.

And it's something a lot of us do.

Someone looked at the top health questions people in all 50 states Google more than other states in here are the highlights.

Okay.

Alabama wants to know how do you get monkey pox?

And why do I sweat my sleep?

Wow.

Interesting.

Okay.

Yeah.

Arkansas is wondering what causes hemorrhoids?

Yeah.

Next door Mississippi is also asking about them.

Specifically, where are hemorrhoids?

Oh.

You'll know.

Yeah.

You'll know.

You'll know.

California is asking, why do I keep you on it?

Is it is it bad to sleep with your abroad?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay.

Oh.

In Texas, why do I pee when I cough?

It's the top search.

I'm sorry.

I should not laugh.

That is not something I have.

I know.

But still.

Wow.

The fact that it's so many people asking it.

That's the thing.

That's like wow.

Yeah.

We're not laughing at the health concerns.

Yeah.

Many mean.

Nobody is laughing at that.

No.

It's just the silliness of this.

Yeah.

It's silliness.

And wow.

That many people are looking at your number on the whole state.

And the fact that they have to Google it and they can't ask their mom.

Oh yeah.

Or their health provider.

Yeah.

Because there's a lot about health care in our country.

Exactly.

Yeah.

That's a big part of why I want us to talk about this.

Oh.

I kick the entertainment to the curve and one of the talk about this.

Let's talk serious.

But we can have fun with it too.

We can do both.

We can do both.

I think we're all the three of us are masters at that.

And being able to balance that.

Or at least getting better at it.

Getting better.

Every day.

Every day.

Please call up and join the conversation.

Yes.

Have any insight in any of this?

715-424-2600.

Connecticut wants to know, hey, how long does pink eye last?

Usually a week or two.

Trust me.

Well, it's a small state.

You know, if one person gets pink eye, everybody does.

They have it all.

So everybody gets it.

So that's why, yeah.

A home of a lot of our, that ain't right stories.

Florida just checked the fridge and is curious.

What happens when you eat mold?

Oh, geez.

Oh.

Did I have to tell you what state that was from?

And I'm not picking on Florida.

No.

I'm picking on that question.

If you got it.

In their defense, it's very humid there.

It's moist.

Exactly.

Exactly.

Exactly.

The countertop.

Totally like really bread on the countertop.

But yeah, yeah.

I've learned from my folks who live in that same kind of climate.

That there are certain things you have to refrigerate down there.

That you normally wouldn't up in the Midwest kind of thing.

Just because of how humid, like, and how susceptible everything is to mold.

In Illinois, can you live without a spleen?

Yes, you can.

Yes, but.

Is that because so many people in Illinois have vented their spleen right out of their body?

Yeah.

Is that what it is?

That's what happens.

What movie or book was that?

I ruptured my spleen.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

It was a common thing theme.

And I don't remember.

I don't remember.

I don't know what you're talking about though.

Indiana, why am I always hungry and also how to relieve gas paint?

Well, stop beating so many beans.

I guess is what it is.

You know.

I have your mic.

It's nice.

Nice.

Nice.

They'll do it.

Kansas, why does ringworm, what does ringworm look like?

Ooh.

Well, all of a sudden an outbreak of ringworm, it can't just.

That sounds not fun.

You can't see it really.

No.

Well, there's a ring shape.

Yep.

That's true.

And Kentucky was also wondering if you can live without a spleen.

A lot of people were wondering about that.

Marilyn has been asking, why are my eyes red?

But they did just legalize marijuana last year.

This is a sign.

This is a sign.

No.

This is a sign.

It's a mass possession.

You're all demons now.

Yes, that's what it is.

I don't know if anybody heard that about Marilyn.

But yes.

We're not getting enough sleep.

Oh yeah.

More likely probably what Melissa said.

Yeah, the mundane answer.

Yeah.

She's.

I don't know.

There was a period of time.

I don't remember exactly when it was.

It was probably sleep related.

But I was waking up every morning and my eyes were red.

Ooh.

Interesting.

I don't know why.

I don't think it was an infection or anything.

It was just like they were dry and gritty and red and...

It's a mystery.

Um, Melissa.

But I eventually went away.

I believe this happened to Bob and Carl as well.

When you work with me long enough, you just see red.

You just see red.

Nothing but red.

Missouri is wondering how long can you go without sleep?

Just that's James.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Three and a half days is the longest I've gone.

And I've done that a lot in my life.

Dude.

Yeah.

Dude.

And you start hallucinating a little bit.

Yeah, I'm sure.

A little bit.

A little bit.

It's not fun.

If for a moment it is.

For a moment it's fun.

Whoa.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

Dude know you don gotta be careful with secret water.

True.

True.

True.

New York wire my hands so dry.

Cuz the airs dry.

You know, I take it from winter.

I don't know.

That's what I always say.

Maybe a tough one here going out in the Ohio.

Can you die from a broken heart?

Oh.

Oh.

When we get a Valentine's Day.

Out.

AndYU.

Pensalvania is rain water safe to drink.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Good point.

South Dakota might want to get to the ER.

Hey, why does my stomach hurt?

And what side is my appendix on?

Like both these questions were almost tied.

Oh wow.

I feel like that's an appendix thing right there.

The whole state has an acute attack of appendicitis all at the same time.

Wow.

Utah wonders why do I sweat so much?

Cuz you live in a desert.

Cuz you live in a desert.

That's why.

Yeah.

Good day.

And of course Wisconsin.

What about Wisconsin?

What are we googling the most here in Wisconsin when it comes to our health?

Hey, why is my eye twitching?

You don't have enough pisacium.

Eat more bananas.

Or you're listening to James on the regular.

Could have a little bit of a little column A, a little column B on that one.

The most common things that make the muscles in your eyelid twitch are fatigue, stress, caffeine,

and excess alcohol intake.

Okay.

Rarely they can be side effects of a medicine and used for migraine headaches.

Once spasms begin they can continue often on for a few days then they disappear.

Yes.

I have had this recently where I've had it for a few days where my left eyelid was twitching

so I blame the cast.

Yeah.

As you probably should.

I'm just kidding.

That's great.

That's good.

It's happened to me periodically throughout my life and I usually eat a banana.

Oh right.

Oh, maybe I should try that next time.

But bananas have a lot of pisacium.

It's true.

It's true.

It's so annoying though when you get it.

And also in your eyelid just keeps twitching.

It's like, I usually like put my hand over it.

Stop.

Stop now.

Across the board let's take a look at this.

Across the board a lot of people also seem to be asking about allergies, blood pressure,

headaches, stomach aches, sleep apnea, ringing in your ears, sore throats, and that lingering

cough that won't go away.

Those all make lots of sense, common stuff.

Yeah.

They could be anything, you know.

Is that a bad thing about trying to look up health stuff on the internet though?

I've got all the symptoms for it.

Hurry, hurry.

Oh my god.

You know.

I'm going to die in three days.

WebMD told me.

I always start saying goodbye.

Yeah.

WebMD made me feel like I should be doing that all the time.

Back in the day, like early days of internet.

Yeah.

100%.

There was a period of time that I googled stuff a lot and I've just stopped.

Yeah, just don't do it anymore.

Nope.

In a little bit, we're going to get into some other fun stats here from Valentine's Day

and also match.com release its annual singles in America study, want to get to those.

But currently, in production, I should say, I'm sorry, in rehearsal process, is the

glass managerie, the WRCT winter production premiering March 1st right around the corner.

Yeah.

This play, of course, the one of Tennessee Williams' greats is being directed by Seth and Beth

Habhager.

And one of the co-stars of it is, of course, our own Melissa Kay.

I don't want to ask how the process is going, you two.

Melissa, how is the rehearsal time going?

You guys working together well, getting this chemistry down, all right?

Yeah.

We kind of, like on Monday, we broke out into, like, I would say, groups and worked individually

on some of our stuff because the lore and gem scene is a little more involved and there's

some elements to that that, so Wes and I were like, well, you know what, let's just go

in this other room and run lines because what else we're going to do is sit here.

Yeah, man.

And so we buckled down and worked some scenes that we have a lot of back and forth and one

liners, which are for anybody that's done, you know, anything like that, those are sometimes

hard to get.

They can be tricky.

Yeah.

Yeah.

When your lines are what?

Where?

Yeah, exactly.

What?

I mean, if you don't get the order, right?

The one word, sometimes lines are the worst.

But remember, because you have, it's all in context, you know, of what the other person

is doing.

Yeah, sometimes the monologues can be going.

Yeah, exactly.

The monologues are easier sometimes than that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Good to hear.

And Seth, I know that you were excited about some of the video elements of this and working

on some of that.

How has that been going?

Good.

I mean, he heading over to Community Media tomorrow and doing a whole bunch of video editing

there on their fabulous software that they have.

I think it's once more to Joe and the team over there.

I want to say one thing about the cast.

We kind of, on Monday, we kind of threw him to, we were working on the second act and

we're saying, okay, just drop your books.

And we had actually had it set for a little bit later, but I got to give these guys lots

of credit, man.

They rolled right with it.

They did a fabulous job.

Right on, you guys.

So, congrats.

I did.

I'll get nicely done.

I have, I have not.

I have a sentence line.

Yeah.

Well, they hate.

That's fair.

It's fair, you know, because we got to just kind of threw it on you.

But I have not met a cast that is prepared right now, this early as these guys.

So I'm, I'm nothing but praise for how the work they've done.

So it's really cool.

Very cool.

Big boss.

Yeah.

How is it, how is things been going with adding those video elements and everything?

That being done pretty, that feeling like it's going to be a pretty flawless, like it's

going to be a smooth process.

Right.

But it is, you know, is working with our sound guy, Skibba, Dave Skibba, just recently about

the music and everything.

You're getting that worked out where that's coming from on stage.

And then we just did on Monday, we also tested out the projector and the screw behind the

screen, the lighting behind that to see what that was going to look like.

And man, I think it's going to look fabulous.

It's going to look really nice.

Have you enjoyed that part of it, Melissa?

It's a little different theater experience.

I imagine for you, I've never done anything like that where you're doing, you're preparing

for a live performance, but you're also doing work that is going to be recorded.

There's big chunks, big pages.

I don't have to remember.

Nice.

That's the important thing.

Yeah.

Nice.

I mean, up to this point, that's the thing I've noticed the most that, and having a

scrim on stage is a little different, and that being moved on and off and how that's

going to flow is a little unknown yet for I think me, but I think it's going to be

wonderful.

Once we have it, everything in place and our crew there to make all the cogs and the

wheels work and, you know, and a big, yeah, big shout out to the behind the scenes crew

so far and just coming up here, they've been awesome.

I mean, it's absolutely amazing to work with.

And that's what, for me, that's theater.

It's the collaboration.

It's the creative juices of all these people coming together to make something really neat

and then that's what that's what we're hoping is going to happen here.

I do have a bone to pick though.

Oh, okay.

It's our fifth cast member.

Oh, oh, yeah.

Yeah, he really stands in the way all the time.

His name is Coat Rack.

Oh, Coat Rack.

He's a major blocker.

We've had to move Coat Rack around a lot.

You know, he just, he upstages us all the time.

It's not something I like to do very often, but ever once in a while, I do, you know,

call out other actors.

I've worked with Coat Rack many, many times, huge ego, huge ego.

He has to steal every scene, every scene, never, never, never learns the lines, never,

never, never, never.

I keep having to relearn my blocking.

Yeah, imagine.

I don't know what you were thinking casting that Coat Rack man.

We encourage you to get your tickets for the Glass Managerie premiering on March 1st,

2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th.

They will have shows on the 9th and all these shows will be at 7 o'clock at the WRC T Auditorium.

Now, on the 9th and the March 9th, they'll have a 2 o'clock matinee to go along with that

late performance at 7.

Correct.

Mundo.

Get your tickets at wrctheter.org, wrctheter.org.

We'll have more on the Silver Foxes production during our good stories of the day.

And we want us into a special shout out, get well soon to Gretchen Powers.

Yeah.

Gretchen, of course, our head of WRC T and great friend here at WFHR.

We wish you well, Gretchen.

Get better.

Yeah.

Get better soon.

Especially the clock's ticking.

We need you.

Yeah.

We need to.

We can't.

We can't.

I'm kidding.

I'm kidding.

Take your time.

Get better.

It'll be okay until you get there.

Take care of yourself.

Yes.

Yes.

We will take a quick time out.

We'll check in with our partners.

We'll be back with more on the morning show.

And welcome back to the morning show here at WFHR.

Locally grown radio.

Got your host, James J. joined by Seth and Melissa and not a working computer.

We are not joined by that right now.

So we will go ahead and now there we go.

Now it's now it's starting to kick in a little bit.

Nope.

Nope.

It's still just doing whatever it wants.

We will go ahead and get that figured out.

Seth's working hard on it for us along with our GM and engineer Chuck.

They appreciate them.

Melissa, if you don't mind, I want to touch on a couple of little, you know, it's a

rough day if you're single because the internet is flooded with Valentine's Day content,

but not everything is corny love stuff.

Some of it has a healthy dose of just silly or fun and touched on a little of this on

the sunrise show.

Let's get to a little of it now.

The art collective mischief put out a WD 40 Cologne last year.

It sold out quickly, but they recently restocked it and added the new perfume that smells like

the cleaning solution Fabulouso.

Oh, yeah.

I don't know who that's for.

This is very interesting to me.

There is a new dating app called Score and no, no, no, it is not that type of score.

It's your credit score.

You must have at least a 675 credit score to use it.

It's a dating app only for people with good or excellent credit and it hopes to help

quote, raise awareness about the importance of finances in relationships.

And yes, they do a soft credit check to confer.

Oh, brother.

I'm not, I'm not digging that too much.

Well, but it is something that people do consider when they're dating, especially those

of us in our 30s and 40s because if you choose to tie yourself to somebody with bad credit

or that is bad at taking their other finances, that's a drag on your finances and your credit

score.

Yeah.

Where to get married.

I completely hear you, Melissa, you only catch to this to me and it wouldn't even come

up in this scenario.

But to me, oh, I see somebody, I fall for them, then I find out their credit score and

then all of a sudden I don't want to be with them.

Like I wouldn't want that to get in the way of love.

I wouldn't want that to get now.

It's not, you're especially noteworthy with the age thing that you're talking about

there, Mel.

That's very noteworthy.

And love doesn't pay bills.

Love doesn't, you know, solve everything.

So I'm not at all trying to, again, foolish romantic here.

That's all I'm leaning into, but I hear you on this.

I think I'm also, I got a little PTSD with this.

I've had the two of the three serious related, actually all three of the serious relationships

I've been into my life all ended because I wasn't making much and I didn't have a good

credit score.

So it hits a little close, so I'm going to be completely honest, I'm a little biased

on that one.

Yeah.

Let's see here.

It's a little bit of a touchy thing because like you said, love should win out, but you

know, I'm, it's also something to consider and the sad fact that so many of us are crippled

by debt.

Yeah.

Boy, if that isn't, yeah.

Mm-hmm.

You know, student debt or just life.

Anything.

Yeah, exactly.

No, you're right.

Absolutely.

Yeah.

I would say though, if you're getting to the point, like you were talking about Melissa,

you know, you're possibly, you know, considering, you know, getting together for like long-term

living or marriage or whatever that is, then I think at that point, you have to have

that conversation, you know, at some point that, you know, this is a big step and we need

to make sure we're on the same page with where we think finances should be and that sort

of thing.

Because finances is a big thing in relation.

Oh, 100%.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So a researcher say there's evidence that mouth to mouth kissing is more than 5,000

years old.

Oh.

Wow.

Yeah.

Also.

Was it oscillating?

Oscillating.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oscillating.

Yeah.

Oscillating.

And also kissing was originally more common after love making than the precursor to it.

Really?

Yeah.

Okay.

It's kind of interesting.

How do they measure that?

Thank you.

Yes.

How do they know that?

Yeah.

That's interesting.

Candy salads are going viral on TikTok, but they're just a modern spin on the random

candy dish that everyone's grandma used to have.

Of course.

Just open a loose bag of candy, throw it in there.

Thousands of rideshare and food delivery drivers are planning to strike on Valentine's

Day as part as an ongoing dispute over pay and work in conditions.

Right.

Good for you.

Good on you.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Appreciate that.

Mm-hmm.

According to a new poll, 13% of Americans would rather receive diamonds than chocolate on Valentine's

Day.

Only 13%.

Yeah.

Chocolate is much more.

Pretty good.

Yeah.

Chocolate.

That's about right.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Exactly.

But chocolate is so much better.

You can't do anything with a diamond.

You know, it's just, it's unless you're like drilling like something.

I'm sure that there are people that love their wedding ring that love their diamond or

whatever.

But Seth, I believe that that kind of stuff is never about the person that's getting

it.

It's always about trying to make other people jealous.

Oh, okay.

Well, not maybe not jealous, but at the very least, look at me.

Look at me, Louis.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah.

It's never about love.

It's never about like, I want people to look at this ring and know that I'm with the

one that I love.

I'm with my soulmate.

No, it's, look, I want my people to know that I got an expensive ring.

Yes.

It just seems very, I don't know.

It does seem that way.

Yeah.

I just have a, some diamonds have a reputation.

That's very true.

Yeah.

I feel like I'm trying to, I'm doing some self editing the last couple of weeks where

I'm trying to catch myself from, oh, don't talk blood diamonds.

Don't get all serious, Jimmy.

Go to the other direction.

Yeah.

I've really tried everybody.

I've really, really tried.

Actually, I think Bliss has brought that up more than you to be fair.

So, it's, it's about feelings about that.

Oh, I know.

I'm with you.

It's not labor.

Yeah.

It's not cool.

Not cool at all.

Let's take a call.

And I think I know what this is about.

Good morning.

What's on your mind?

No, it's animal sports.

Okay.

That's awesome.

Nicely done, man.

What's on your mind?

Well, you know, my girlfriend, she works in a floral style.

And she told me if I got her flowers for Valentine's Day, she's going to kill me.

Excellent points.

Yeah.

Well done.

That's awesome.

Yeah.

You know, and it's kind of like my job too.

Hmm.

Christmas time is totally lost in the meeting of Christmas.

Oh, yeah.

You know, it's enough like, you know, candy and jeezing sausage trays and all that kind

of stuff.

You know, but for Valentine's Day, most of the time, it's just at the heart.

Yeah.

That can last because that can, you know, they can put it into a shoe.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I'm kind of the reminder of what's going to happen with flowers.

What's going to happen with flowers?

Yeah.

Well, to die.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Take care of them.

I like that idea.

I think that to me, whatever gift, even if it's for a birthday, Christmas, or anything like

that, I always like to get things.

Well, what can they get a lot of uses out of it?

Or are they going to have it for a while?

I'm not against, like, you know, perennial gifts, or annual gifts, if you know.

Yeah.

You know, gifts that are just going to die out or whatever, but there's some, or food

that's going to get eaten and chocolate, you know, that kind of, but I like your point,

man.

That's kind of one of my first thoughts when I'm gift giving and a big gift giver.

And that's one of the first things I think of as well.

Well, how much use can they get out of this?

Or how much are they going to enjoy this?

Right.

I mean, that's pretty much where I've had lately is like, okay, why, you know, what should I get?

What should I get?

What's going to keep it constantly in mind there?

You know, maybe do I do I take it selfie and go to Walgreens and have a drink, and all of these?

Both based on our, on our actual associate these life filet base everyday.

I like that idea.

Oh, I like that too.

That's good, man.

That's good.

Appreciate the call.

Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours, man.

Have a great one.

You two, you guys have a great rest of week.

You too.

Thank you, man.

We appreciate your callers in radio.

We appreciate you so much.

Yes, we do.

Everybody.

And speaking of which, I do want to thank our listeners out there for letting us know we are

having trouble with our streaming right now.

And if you're listening to us streaming, well, chances are you can't even hear me apologizing

right now.

But we are working on it and hopefully we'll have that fix before the end of the show or very soon for you.

For now, we're going to hear from our partners and get to our local and state news right on WFHR locally grown radio.

Welcome back, everyone.

Morning show here at WFHR locally grown radio.

Set the Melissa and James here with you.

Take a stroll down Baker Street.

Famous sax ever in a song?

It's close.

It's got to be in the top three.

That's got to be in the top three.

Famous sax solo ever.

Like you start the song with a sax solo.

Yeah.

That's one of the most iconic songs that never really gets noted to be one of the most iconic songs.

It was a huge hit too.

It was number one.

Everything like that.

And yeah, I'm with you.

That is one of those top songs too that like I hear that song even just now.

I'm hearing that.

I'm eight years old back in Batavia or Carol Stream or something like that as a kid.

Yeah, it's a time machine, man.

Music is a time machine.

So here's an interesting article.

Match.com dropped its annual singles in America's study.

They looked at the state of dating in 2024.

And it's the 13th year they've done this.

The stat everyone's talking about this time is 31% of singles have explored consensual non-monogamy.

And getting around.

Only 49% said a traditional two person relationship is their ideal scenario right now.

49%.

Almost half.

Almost half.

Interesting.

That said, 79% of singles and 83% of Gen Zers think that they can still have a lifelong marriage.

So the institution is still around and everything.

And here are four of the most common types of non-monogamous relationships.

Monogamish.

Not totally open, but sometimes.

It's hilarious.

I've never heard that before.

That's hilarious.

I've never heard any of these.

Polyamory where your relationship involves three or more people.

I've heard that one.

Yeah.

Open relationships are committed primary relationship that's open to allow romantic and other activities.

And then of course swinging, which you don't need to explain.

That's the oldest one that's been around.

Yeah.

And here are a few more quick stats on dating in 2024.

Not everyone is looking to get it on.

21% of singles said that they don't want a sexual relationship right away.

Wow.

21%.

It's pretty high.

Fifth, yeah.

What in seven online debtors are using AI?

43% of them have used it to write their dating profile.

And 37% have used it to write their first text to someone.

Help coming up with conversation topics on dates is also near the top of the wish list.

Wow.

You know what?

I can't blame any of that though.

No.

Honestly.

I'm looking.

Trying to come up with the first thing to have a conversation with somebody when your online

dating can be, especially if you've done it over and over and over and over, it becomes a drag.

Hi, I'm James.

I like dogs.

Like, that's all I had.

I couldn't.

I couldn't.

Man, I consider myself pretty darn creative.

No.

No.

I could not think of any way to sell myself in this dating app.

The one time I've tried it, I had no idea what to do.

If I had thought of using AI, I might have.

Yeah.

And I've never once in my life thought about using AI for anything other than spell check on

a phone or anything like that.

I've never thought about it in that scenario.

I would have darned for you.

I do wonder though if there is a fear of genuineness.

Well, yeah.

Of course there is.

I think for instigating a conversation, it's not a bad use.

But if you're continuing to use that after you've already established something's wrong

Mary.

So I have a conversation with somebody then.

Yeah.

Oh, God.

Seth helped me or Melissa.

Maybe you know it.

The guy with the big nose who was in the.

Oh, a serenote.

Serenote.

Thank you.

Serenote.

So is AI becoming serenote?

Is there a serenote?

Is there a serenote?

Yeah.

There should be.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Don't point.

I should have copied.

You see, you should write off and now someone's going to start it.

I don't know.

No.

But that is a genuine.

This is something.

This is an angle on AI.

I had never even thought of.

I never even thought about this.

I'll be honest.

But that does.

To me, that would be a concern.

Especially, you know, they're in text.

They're one way.

And then in person, they're different.

Absolutely.

Bad thing.

But I don't know the likelihood of that even happening.

How much it happens or anything like that.

Well, they're all also aware of it too.

Exactly.

And you know.

And I think one thing we've really got to get better about in society.

All of us, including myself, is balancing.

Hey, is this worth my energy?

Is this worth me getting bent out of shape about?

Oh, no.

People are using AI to date.

Well, we ain't got to get on top of this.

We got to do this and this and this.

Oh, hold up.

Hold up.

Hold up.

Like, do we really need to?

Or is this going to work itself out?

Yeah.

Is this going to figure itself out?

Often.

Well, a lot of times in life, it works itself out.

Mm-hmm.

And what I found toward the end of my, I don't know if it's toward the end.

But at some point in online dating, it was like, okay, you know, we can, we can have this first exchange.

We can talk for a couple days.

But let's meet sooner than later because meeting in person is what is going to clinch it.

Yeah.

Whether you actually want to have a relationship or work, continue to have a relationship or a friendship

even with, with this person you're talking to.

Right.

And I think that's, yeah, that's where it's all going.

It's affecting, you know, even video chatting is not, which actually I never did.

I never tried that.

Mm-hmm.

Maybe I should have.

Mm-hmm.

It's for states.

Oh.

All right.

Live and learn.

Live and learn.

For a second year in a row, money was voted the top obstacle for dating and 73% of singles say

being financially stable is a top quality they look for to Melissa's point earlier.

Very good.

64% are looking for someone who wants to get married, only 57% want a partner who wants kids.

So still pretty high numbers.

Yeah, it's an over half.

So that's interesting, yeah.

Yeah.

The top corners.

And look, this, that's also one of those things.

My sister was never, was never too gung-ho about having kids if it happened and happened if it didn't.

Right.

She did and can imagine her life without them.

Yeah.

I, I think that that oftentimes can be one of those things.

It's similar to the joke I tell all the time when I ask my dad why my sister brother and I are all five years apart.

Why did my mom and dad plan that?

And he falls down laughing because you, Jimmy, you don't play kids.

They just happen.

Right.

Right.

So later your sister, I have to say, you know, when, when Beth and I got to a certain point in our relationship,

when it looked like, you know, that marriage was in the offing, I really had to figure that out.

Because I was, I was really afraid about having kids.

I was very nervous and all that stuff.

So I had to, I had to make the decision.

I said, is, is this something that we, that I have to be okay with in order to be with this person who I knew wanted to have kids.

And now, like your sister, I mean, I can't, I can't imagine.

Yeah.

I can't imagine not having my children.

It's just, yeah, one of those things.

Thank you for sharing that though.

Thank you for sharing that.

I don't think you're, I know you're not alone on that one.

The top cornerstones of a good relationship according to singles are trust, good communication, and mutual respect, and a good but.

No, I'm kidding.

I'm joking.

I added the last part.

And a nice can, yeah.

Of course you did.

The top.

Could help myself.

And we're getting too serious.

Yeah.

Let's talk about it then.

The top red flags are poor communication, a lack of trust, and cheating is the third.

Really?

Okay.

I don't know.

You know, it's the opposite of the fur, you know, lack of trust, trust, communication, and communication.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Which totally makes sense.

But it's true.

It's absolutely true.

Yeah.

And this kind of lends itself back to where you started this conversation with a monogamous polyamorous or, you know, like all these different categories of relationships.

Well, if you're cheating, you, you're not, you're, you should have been, been open about what you want in a relationship.

Yeah.

Exactly.

You don't want to be monogamous, then be open about that.

Yeah.

Monogamous.

Don't ruin that, guys.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one who had a popular.

No.

I can't be the only one.

Yes, you were.

No, he wasn't.

He could have been.

You could do that song with anything.

The top people we turn to for data advice are our friends, family, therapists, and influencers.

23% of Jen Sears and 19% of millennials get dating advice from folks on TikTok and Instagram.

So do around 10% of Jen Sears and boomers.

See?

There's a lot of relationship questions that I see out on social media.

Mm-hmm.

I think whenever it comes to that stuff, take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying it's not good advice, but I do think that it's important to everything involves context.

And you need to tailor things to you or in your situation, 100%.

And if you're asking strangers on the internet...

Yeah.

Again, huge grain of salt, take it with.

It's not to say they don't know what they're talking about or they don't have good advice,

but I do think that it's very important to keep that in mind.

These people don't know you, and every human being is different.

100%.

Therapist is not a bad idea.

I kind of like that.

Therapist is strong.

Yeah.

And finally, one in 10 singles have also asked an X for dating advice.

That's really amazing.

Why was I so bad in this relationship?

That's a really smart thing to do.

It also speaks to them being able to keep some form of relationship with their X,

which speaks to their character.

I've talked to...

Great points, Melissa.

I agree with you 100%.

I've talked with my ex-wife about this.

It took a long time.

We had been divorced for a good 10-15 years before we were able to talk like that.

But when we talk about that stuff now, I find her to be a great resource

and from what she's told me, I am too when it comes to a lot of those things.

She's currently happily married and loved and all that.

But even in those situations, you find yourself sometimes like,

hey, how was I back in our 20s?

How was I when we were kids and that kind of thing?

I think it's really nice to be able to have something like that.

I don't know how common it is.

I hope it's a lot more common than I realize.

Because I couldn't agree with you more, Melissa.

That to me, when I talk to somebody and they're still...

And I say friends loosely.

But they're still friends with their X around good communication skills.

I think it's a good way of saying it.

Especially when they have a child involved.

That's important.

Yeah, it's not a deal breaker to me.

It's not going to change how I think or feel about somebody.

But I do look at it as a positive.

And I won't say it's a red flag if they don't.

Only because I know how dicey those situations can be.

Right, right.

And of course, and we do want to add, you know,

there's some relationships that are toxic and need to be done.

Right.

So we want to include that as well to make sure that you're not going back

to something that's very bad.

No, not at all.

There's a new relationship with an X.

There are potentially good reasons why they're labeled an X.

Exactly.

Well, and I was going to back off this because I have...

I'm not going to let it what is in my head trying to stop me from saying it,

which is the fear of, oh, they're trying to cancel Christmas.

Oh, they're trying to kill love.

They're trying to kill marriage or trying to blah, blah, blah.

Things evolve.

Things grow.

They change.

Time only goes one direction.

We need to talk to a lot of younger people nowadays.

There's a lot, dating is a lot different than it was when even you and I,

the three of us were kids and teenagers and everything.

You don't send a note anymore.

Do you want to be my boyfriend, girlfriend?

Check one.

Yes or no?

It was always maybe.

They always wrote it in the maybe box.

Three times I did that in my life at every time.

Always in limbo.

Always in limbo, man.

Still wondering.

Still wondering.

It would be hilarious.

She did say maybe in sixth grade.

You never know.

Yeah.

I don't know.

But to me, it's one of those things where no, it just evolves.

It doesn't stop.

It's not going to die.

It's not like in 10 years, nobody's getting married anymore.

Nobody's having any relationship anymore.

Do you know human beings?

Yes.

We can't help ourselves.

Human beings will find a way to produce under any circumstance.

Like, look at the babies are going to be born in nine months.

Any winner here in the Midwest.

Come on.

Come on.

It's a miracle.

Anyone gets born.

Tell it yes.

It's just the way things change and evolve.

That's all.

We will take time out and more to be continued.

More to come on the morning show.

To be continued right here at WFHR.

How sweet it is to be loved by you.

Welcome back to the show, everybody.

How sweet it is to be loved by you.

You knew we were going to wrap up on a love song.

Come on.

You know me by now.

Sweetness.

Yeah.

You know me day.

You can't help myself, man.

saverthearts.com.

Sally and I had a conversation about that.

We're going to talk more about it coming up when they join us.

You know what I'm always amazed.

All these tribute artists that are out there.

How much they look and sound like the people.

It's weird.

How do they do that?

It really is.

He looks like James Taylor.

It's uncanny.

It's one thing when they're trying to.

It's so much different when like a guy like him where he's not like trying to.

No, he just looks like James Taylor.

That's pretty interesting.

Check out how sweet it is.

Steve Leslie sings James Taylor.

This March 7th coming up next month.

Let's take a look at this.

A chunk of states in the middle and in the middle of America are really into movies.

We got other Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day, date activities in every state.

Okay.

So know that a right story today.

Just celebrate and love.

Still not quite sure what to do for Valentine's Day.

If you're in Idaho, you could see if there are any times still available at the local

axe throwing facility.

There you go.

Hey.

Hey.

That does sound like a fun date.

It does seem like.

I've always wanted to do that.

Yeah.

Google Trends just released a list of uniquely popular Valentine's Day activities in every state.

A chunk of states in middle America are really into the movies.

North Dakota.

Where they'll specifically look for outdoor movies.

Like outdoor theaters and stuff.

Wow.

I think there's like one in North Dakota.

It's last funny.

It'll only get up to about a high of 20 today in Fargo and at night it'll be about

seven below 17.

So yeah.

Yeah.

Most states prefer something more active, especially out west.

There are things like pottery classes in California and Arkansas are really big.

Mini golf is huge in Arizona and Nevada.

Nice.

Indoor Mini Golf in Pennsylvania.

Bowling.

Obviously.

Yeah.

Bowling in Michigan and Oklahoma.

Go carts in Washington state and Montana and roller skating in Iowa.

Roller skating.

Roller skating.

I blame usher.

Yeah.

Ice skating in Florida.

A cooking class in Louisiana.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Ice skating in Florida.

Yeah.

I skid past it.

I should not have done that.

Skated past that.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

Ice skating in Florida.

That's a little head scratcher.

Yeah.

I know they've got hockey teams in Florida.

Yes, there are.

A cooking class in Louisiana and Massachusetts.

Ooh, okay.

An escape room in New Jersey.

Ooh, escape rooms are fun.

That's actually kind of fitting for Jersey.

That's kind of funny.

In fact, the name of the escape room is Escape from New Jersey.

I mean, one of the springsteas biggest saws.

It's bored in the run.

It's all about leaving and gaining New Jersey.

Yeah.

That's funny.

That's funny.

Going to the aquarium in Hawaii.

Oh, cool.

Going to the Botanical Garden in Georgia.

Okay.

That's nice.

I love the Botanical Garden in Madison.

I love that place.

Yeah.

That is awesome.

And over and out.

Is it the domes over in Milwaukee?

Yes.

Those are great, too.

Yeah.

I went to those as a kid.

They're amazing.

Awesome memories.

It's such a cool one.

Hitting up the arcade in Illinois.

And going ex throwing in Idaho in Oregon.

People in Texas are more interested in going out for coffee.

Couples in Colorado.

We're just looking to grab some pizza.

And New Yorkers are going to the spa.

Okay.

All right.

West Virginia.

West Virginia likes comedy shows.

And people in Vermont are looking into the possibility of a boat dinner.

Really?

Dinner on a boat?

Yeah.

Do they have water in Vermont?

No, I can't.

So much.

They're actually running on the same boat.

As a side note, Google also put in the release a list of the most top search Valentine's day

flowers.

And the number one was Lego flowers.

Huh?

Lego flowers.

Lego flowers?

Yeah.

You make a bouquet out of Lego.

Oh my god.

It's amazing.

Lego flowers.

Wow.

Okay.

That's cool.

I'll take that.

And to make anything out of Legos.

Very true.

Looking into our good stories of the day, we of course have a great midday magazine lined up for you.

I want to encourage you to listen from three to four today.

Part one, family natural foods.

Stephen and Katrina Hittner joining us.

Yay.

Catch up with the gang.

They got some really good stuff coming up.

Including some really fun things that they are doing over at the shop.

We're going to hear about from them.

Find out what's happening over family natural foods.

Food grits.

Their doors are open.

Go ahead and visit them at 910 West Grand Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids and follow them on social media as well.

It's a great follow.

Big thank you to our friends and family natural foods.

In part two, we're going to be joined by encouraged Kim Shields to be with us along with Cassandra Abney from the Wood County adult drug treatment program.

Oh wow.

That would be interesting.

Yeah.

We're going to focus on that.

Yeah.

Really looking forward to that conversation.

That will be a 330 today on midday magazine.

Join us today a little bit later tonight.

At seven o'clock, our pregame will kick off for Milwaukee Bucks at the Memphis Grizzlies looking to get right in that game.

It's been up and down the last couple of weeks with Doc Rivers in the Bucks.

But things are getting right.

It looks they're looking better.

Yeah.

If you pay attention to the game, not just wins and losses.

You see a defense that is tuning and tuning and tuning and getting stronger and stronger.

They're figuring that out.

Knock on wood.

No injuries or anything like that.

This unit can get some chemistry on that point because everything in basketball is defense.

If you don't pay attention, you may not realize it because of the 143 to 130 scores and stuff.

But that's why defense is so important.

That's why a team like Minnesota, says Minnesota Timberwolves,

are number one in the West because they have the number one defense.

Not just one of the greatest players in Anthony Edwards and Kat and all that.

You can find out more about the Bucks tonight, seven o'clock.

The Bucks in Memphis for that one.

And it is a Wednesday.

We know what that means.

Bingo.

Oh, Kim.

Oh, Bingo.

Oh, Bingo.

I was reading it backwards.

Yeah, sorry, sorry.

I should have put that the other way.

I was surfing it.

Bingo.

Bingo.

Yeah.

Which we were not able to get to.

They are going to be doing the golden age of radio.

Of course, Jack was one of the great comedians of old time radio.

But they're going to be doing their show.

They've got three opportunities on this 22nd at two.

The 23rd at six.

And the 24th again at 2 p.m.

At the lowest Katan studio theater.

And this is, I'm a sucker for old radio stuff.

Yes.

So this is fabulous.

Our good friend Chris Williams is directing.

So it's going to be a great show.

Yeah, get your tickets and find out more at wrctheter.org.

Wrctheter.org.

And thank you for getting the Jack Benny in there.

So told me that off here.

And I wanted to get to it.

I forgot.

Yep.

Love Jack Benny.

That's a great one to mention.

Love our friends over at the historic point boss.

They have the Robert and Mary Wakeley.

The meal will consist of donated while game and two domestic meats.

The gathering will start at 440 dinner, 630 entertainment.

You can get your tickets at family nature foods, daily drug, and beavers.

Be sure to visit any of those great establishments,

bi-local support local, and help our friends at the historic point,

Bosque Pistory Alive over there.

They're always looking for good volunteers, always looking for new members

and people to help with the work over there.

And if you don't want to eat game this weekend,

you can have soup at the Southwood County empty bowls.

That's hosted by Focus and they have 11 different restaurants

that have soup.

So you're going to have like a plethora of soup to choose from.

Plethora.

Yeah, and Melissa, I want to mention them just to give them a shout out.

Aaron's Wine and Steins, Anchor Bay Bar and Grill,

Chatterbox Catering, Danny K's Pub and Grill,

Grace's Family Restaurant, great expectations, Jennings & Company,

Junkyard Bar and Grill, Misty's Menu, Olympic II Family Restaurant,

and Sportsman's Pub and Grill.

All of those businesses are putting not only into their community,

but trying to help people with one of the biggest things we have to deal

with in this day and age hunger.

So they deserve a shout out.

Mm-hmm.

And it's only 10 bucks.

You get a full meal and you get the bowl.

Do you keep the bowl?

And a memory that you will never forget.

That's right.

Join our friends at Focus at 2321 West Grand Avenue

and all the great people that are a part of empty bowls,

a big shout out to the team over there.

Find out more at focusofswc.org,

focusofswc.org, and be sure to follow their Facebook page.

Yes indeed.

And just a couple of world big stories.

A couple of Colorado Springs Police Department held its 5th annual

Valentine's Day card contest for kids.

They got handed out to cops and the prize for the best card

is always stuffed animals.

Pre-K class won this time with an American flag-themed card.

They're also getting seven stuffed unicorns.

Oh.

Oh, cool.

Nice combination there between the police department and schools.

Very well done.

Very well done.

And in the aquarium in New Hampshire used non-toxic paint

and had their otters create 25 Valentine's Day cards,

along with 10 paintings to auction off for charity.

They called the cards, autograms.

Oh, autograms.

Autograms.

Autograms.

Very nice.

That's terrible.

I love it when places are doing this.

That's fantastic.

The shoes.

Our own Wildwood shoe has a bear,

a painting done by the bear.

Yeah.

Oh, very cool.

That's awesome.

That's got to be perfect for you.

Yeah, absolutely.

And a shout out to the best team in radio.

You guys, a great show this today and this week.

Appreciate you.

Have yourselves a great day.

You too, man.

You too.

Be good to each other.

Have a great one.

And we will talk to you soon and later right here.

At 97.5 FM 13.20 AM WFHR,

we are locally grown radio.
