We hope you're having a great one out there. Happy hump day.
We got good stuff coming up for you in a little bit. We're going to get into. We'll
go over our middle-aged quiz. We'll get the numbers from that and get the important data
to you on that one. We've got a bunch of new emojis coming up. And we've got a bunch of that,
like a couple of that ain't right stories. I got to touch on. There's some good ones here.
I want to get to. All that coming up, we kick things off with a little entertainment news.
Songs from artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Drake might be disappearing from TikTok today.
Oh, okay. Universal Music Group says it will pull its song catalog today after failing to come
to a fair licensing deal with TikTok in regards to artists pay, protecting artists from AI,
and online safety for users. They even posted an open letter, quote,
TikTok proposed paying our artists and songwriters at a rate that is a fraction of the rate that's
similarly situated major social platforms pay. Ultimately, TikTok is trying to build a
music-based business without paying fair value for the music. That's not okay. Universal also added
that TikTok currently accounts for about 1% of the revenue. Now, that may not seem like much,
1%, obviously it is not mathematically much, but that 1% is growing and it's growing and it's
going to continue to grow. And I would put my name on it that by this time next year that is much
higher. And in 2026, it's going to be higher. In 2027, it's going to be higher. It's a likelihood,
yeah. Now, there's going to be other apps to come out and there's going to be other avenues
to come from those and everything. But right now, in this day and age, if I am starting out,
if I'm in my teens, I'm in my 20s, and I'm struggling artists, so I'm a musician and I want to
get out there. One of the first things I'm doing, one of the first things I'm doing is creating a
TikTok page. There are at least 20 to 30 artists right now that have record deals because of TikTok.
That's right. I think that this is something that's got to get evened out and figured out,
and it's got to get figured out quick. Because we can't let this happen to the art community.
We can't let this happen to the art world. Any more than we can let it happen to our middle class,
or, well, okay, actually, I'm sorry, everybody, there used to be this thing called middle class.
It was this, we need to explain her for that now, don't we?
No, we kind of do. There's a group of people out there under 30 who probably don't even know
what middle class is. People that used to be able to buy a home, not just dream about it,
but actually do. Without making $150,000 a year, you could do it at one time.
If you are not an artist, if you are not a creative, if you don't know anybody in this world,
and you don't seem to care about people in this world, you should. Because it does affect you.
Listen to music. Yeah, yeah. Have you ever listened to music? Have you ever been entertained by
entertainment or anything like that? Those are good notes, but it's also noteworthy that other
companies and other jobs in other fields use the entertainment industry all the time as an example.
That's true. And in that example, it lowers the bar for everything else.
Oh, I can point to this and make an excuse for treating my employees horribly or doing this badly
or something. Right, right. And I do want to make sure that everyone realizes too that,
yeah, in this case, it's universal music that's doing it. Now, universal music is not doing this
to be nice. Yeah, yeah. Or to their art. They're actually using their artists in a kind of a
yucky way here. Because they're saying, Oh, artists royalties, this kind of thing. Remember,
universal music is one of the owners of Spotify. Yeah. Spotify does not is horrible at paying
royalties. All of the streaming services are terrible for artists. Okay. And that's because there's
a basically a monopoly in music. There's three giant companies that basically have all the music
right now. And they dictate the terms. So yeah, they're not wrong. Okay. What they're saying about
TikTok. Yeah, they're not wrong. But at the same time, they're doing it because, yeah,
they get more money for them. Yeah, we're talking about the lesser of two evils in some ways here.
And all wait a minute. That sounds like politics. Oh, no.
This matters. It matters. I think that anybody forget about the industry or any of those things.
Do you believe the people should get paid their worth? You know, I mean, it comes down to that.
What they do for their work. It's work. Artists work too. It's not. It's not like they're.
This is this is it's it's their job. They do. Yeah. I would love to see. I remember years back
when Madonna started her Maverick label. And there was some talk of, of, you know, artists having
control and artists having, you know, a lot of these things. And I believe she sold it since then
and everything. Oh, yeah, it's owned by a big group. Yeah. But I would love to see an actual artist
who has some cloud, who has some power, actually create a record label.
And and do this right. Because I feel like it's. Yeah. Do it. Have to be someone who's
that much power. Yeah. Yeah. Do it. And not that that young lady doesn't have enough on her
plate already. But let me just add one more thing to it and everything. But you know, say,
hey, save music. Why? But it's young enough to do it though. That's a thing. Yeah. And to
says point and I think what you were touching on Tumel is about her, her clout and her power and
where she is in status and everything. There's it's interesting how much she can skew things
in a positive. And it's not on her to do that. That's on her responsibility by any means really.
But it would be cool to see an artist do that and start creating that. I would like to see
some of these executives, some of these people actually have to work for their money.
Actually, I have to have to do something for their money. Instead of just sitting there and
stealing from other people. Oh, good way. What are you talking about? They work for their money.
They find talent. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You don't need them anymore. We don't need them. Do
some of this. I know you couldn't care less about sports. But you know, super bowls and how big it
is and everything and commercials during the super bowls. Have you ever gotten into that part of
it at all? Like do you get into the commercials part of things? Not really. I mean, I will watch them
if I have to. But I'm not going to go out of my way to do it. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It makes sense.
And I think that there's a lot more people like that than not. Especially when it comes to
the sports in general. But with the Super Bowl and the commercials that are in the Super Bowl,
that has always been kind of one of those things that brings even your fringe fan or your
unfan into the game against them interested. It was kind of like a it was one of those things
of another time, if you will, where you didn't know what the Super Bowl ads were going to be.
And so you were as excited about that as you were sometimes the game itself. And oftentimes.
Probably more. Yeah. Well, a lot of, a lot of respects. Yeah. To that point, Melissa, oftentimes,
the Super Bowl is a, you know, a blowout or something. Yep. So you are looking forward to the
commercial breaks. It's just something to keep you interested in the game and enjoy. Yeah. Yeah.
No kidding. Well, we're going to talk a little Super Bowl ads here in a second. First, let's

talked to you before. I just wanted to you were talking about artists who self-produce or self-promote
and record their own work, you know, basically in the artist. You have a really interesting artist
whose name is Janet Planet up in your neck of the woods, who does that very thing. Yeah.
She and her husband have a recording studio called Feel Moon recording, I think. And she has
done her own production. She got tired of the music industry pretty much scarfing up all the
process. And she started producing her own records years ago, like I'm thinking 25 years ago.
And if you go to her website, JanetPlanet.com, you will see that almost all of her recordings,
which are 20 plus recordings. She's a jazz artist. 20 plus recordings have been produced
and recorded by her and her husband in their own studio. That's cool. They're wonderful.
There are a couple of people to be honest with. Everybody look behind the curtain a little bit.
I've been trying to get on director's cut. They do great. Yeah. They do really good work.
Ah, and we'd love to have them and we're hoping we're planning on it. And that is a great note

Might be on directors cut sometime coming up. So we were talking Super Bowl ads. And back in
the day, you used to be surprised. You didn't know what ads were coming. But the rise of price
that it cost to afford these ads, it became more and more dicey. And all of a sudden, it became
more and more about, well, if I swing and miss, not only is it costing me millions and millions
dollars, but it gives me bad PR. It doesn't go over well. The idea of no news is bad news is kind
of faded. That's really not the case anymore. So now, in order to make sure that they get as much
money as they can out of these for one, they're going to start, they start releasing them sooner.
So they can get more plays out of them. And sneak peaks. And yes, more value and to see,
hey, do you guys like this or not? What do you guys think of this one? Yeah, yeah.
They want to try to pay all this money and air this. Yeah. They are doing the exact same thing
that the movie industry is doing has done for years. Yeah. The Super Bowl commercials have turned
into that. That's what's happened. And so with that, they've got a bunch of ads already released.
Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson appear in a Hellman's mayonnaise ad that pokes fun at Pete's dating
history. I just like those two working together. Does that all Pete does anymore? I feel like
what is he doing? I know he's got it. He's a good actor. David and Victoria Beckham are pretty
funny and a teaser for Uber Eats. That's another ad that's going to be out there. Interesting.
And there's a bunch more coming. Yeah. Yeah. That's one of those more interesting things coming
up out there. And I wanted to wrap up the segment with the Grammys. In recognition of the Grammys

So with that being on Sunday, let's share love to our favorite artists who have yet to win a
Grammy. MentalFloss.com put together a list of 35 popular Grammy-less artists. Actually, on the
sunrise show, we talked about this with country artists who haven't won. And there is a big list
here. So we're just going to kind of go through 20. And I'm going to go through a couple of names
quick. And then you guys give me your feelings on those. Sure. Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Sia, Rush, and Queen.
Wow. So you should win one. Yeah. Yeah. I think Tupac was the greatest rapper of all time.
I'm just going to put that out there. I think easily the greatest rapper of all time.
So I think in Snoop with his, I'm a little surprised with the Snoop one because he's worked in
so many different genres. Yeah. I think he's been nominated for several of them, but he hasn't won.
Snoop is one of those artists. It has literally a hit record in almost every category. He's got a
religious contemporary album. He's got a reggae album. Like he's been in almost literally almost
every show. He's got a children's album, too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's got a kid show. Yeah. That's
what is it? The bots or whatever? The think bots or something? Oh, storybots. Storybots. Yes. He
was on that show. Yeah. I like storybots. I like that. That's a good show. Storybots is awesome. Yeah.
Rush, not getting on there. It's a little surprising, a little surprise, considering their body,
or now they're they're not they're not doing anything anymore. They're basically the defunct or
not defunct. Retired. Let's say they had a long career. But Queen Queen is shocking almost. That's
surprising. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't know that one. In sync, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Rey and kiss.
Oh, I'd pick Lana Del Rey out of that. I agree. She's really interesting. She's
she's so all over the map on her styles and everything. She's very talented.
gorgeous voice. Yeah. With the popularity of in sync or Nicki Minaj, I'm a little surprised,
but not too shocked that they didn't win him. Yeah. But I'm with I'm with you guys on Lana Del Rey.
Yeah. She's right. 100% 100% blue jeans. Oh, I can listen to that song all day.
There right now, there is a group of younger, they've actually been around for a little while now,
of younger women artists, solo artists that are just amazing. Yeah. I mean, they are just fabulous.
Billie Eilish and Lord and all these, these women are just amazing. Yeah.
And I don't think kiss one of the Grammy. I don't. I feel like it would almost go against the
the kiss brand. And I say that as somebody who who's seen kissing Alex kiss and everything,
I it feels like almost there. There's no shock there, actually, that they haven't won yet.
Then we're offered it and I said nothing. That'd be hilarious.
Katie Perry, journey, the Jonas Brothers and Jennifer Lopez.
I think Katie Perry and journey. Yeah. Yeah. A little surprise. Jennifer Lopez is very
surprising to me because she's had, I mean, in terms of financial success or not financial,
chart success, you know, how big they were. A lot of really big songs. And that's kind of what
the Grammy's go towards. So yeah. But talent wise, there's been some questions there.
And maybe that has something to do with it too. So yeah. Man, she is getting, Jennifer Lopez
has had a pretty solid career and has not had a whole lot of bumps on the road outside of like
dating stuff. Nothing necessarily with her entertainment. Right. Yeah. It's been mostly stuff like off
the field things with her. Yeah. She released a trailer for a possible movie, a biopic movie on her.
And she is getting shredded. Like I've never seen her get shredded before.
She supposedly, apparently she plays herself in it. And she's doing a horrible job. Oh no.
Yeah. Yeah. Like I wouldn't, I haven't gotten to watch it yet. But I've never heard of it.
Like there's a few times in my career in my life that I've heard of a trailer getting shredded
as bad as it has. And with somebody who is so well-liked, Jennifer Lopez is pretty well-liked.
Pretty, you know, and she's a good actor. She is a very good actor. She's a good actor.
That's so weird. Anyway, yeah. It's a terrible job playing yourself. That's rough. That's
weird. That is rough. But as I say, I guess I don't know. And the top seven are Guns and Roses,
Diana Ross, Demi Lovato, Bob Marley, The Beach Boys, Backstreet Boys, and Abba.
Wow. That's a lit. That's a beach boys. Really? Yeah. That's that's almost stunning. Yeah. Wow.
The Beach Boys and Diana Ross. Diana Ross is the most surprising name on this list for me. Yeah.
No, I think you're right. Yeah. Wow. Amazing. You're not only what you did with Supremes, but
you're great solo career too. I mean, my goodness. The Beach Boys is probably would be number two
if it wasn't for Diana Ross. Yeah. Yeah. That is very surprising. Yes, it is.
In part because they were such a radio-friendly band. Exactly. And oftentimes a lot of that is
where the Grammy's go. Oh, yeah. Abba is another example. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah.
The fickle, the fickle Grammy Awards, man. I tell you. If Diana Ross doesn't have a Grammy,
how credible can the Grammy's really be? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What are we doing with our
watch shows? Oh, wait. Who cares? Nicely done, Melissa. Nice. We will take a time out. And yes,

word just to see if an emoji pops up. I have done that many times. I thought that was a load on
that one. All right. So this is 118 new emojis have been revealed. They include a Phoenix, a
lime and brown mushroom and a broken chain. Okay. There's also two new smile emojis. One that's
shaking its head from side to side and another that's shaking its head up and down. Wait, I already
have those. Oh, well, the update might have already taken place for some people. Okay. There you go.
And for Android users, sooner than iPhone users, I believe. There's also a series of gender
neutral family emojis basically silhouette versions of the existing family emojis that have
various combinations of genders. Oh, that's cool. That is cool, but I never use them. What do you
use them for? That's a good question. Yes. What do you use a lot of them for? I don't know. Yeah,
they're sometimes I like to just throw in random ones for funsies, but then also it clogs up
my favorites list. Right. Yeah. Go ahead and finish. I've got an existential question. I was
thinking for a while there, my friends and I when we first all got cell phones would just
type each other random emojis just like a nonsense. And you'd be there trying to like, what
was he trying to tell me bear claw? Yeah, do a bunch of food emojis and have a food fight with
each other. Oh, I like that. That's a good idea. Oh, that's a good idea. No, I could so, you know,
we were talking about all these emojis. Where do they come from? Oh, yeah. Who decides these things?
Are they birthed? What is it or hatched? I don't know, though. It's weird. Is it a lab experiment?
A piece of AI. Oh, man. It's kind of shadowy and odd. I don't know. You know, it seems a little
odd. Not me. It's a little weird. Seth, um, um, um, uh, Pelican comes and drops off the emojis
right of the window and you just take them out of the blanket. Oh, is that how that works?

The other 108 emojis are just additional versions of other people walking, running,
kneeling and things like that. Um, these allow them to face the opposite direction, which also
supporting all three emoji gender options as well as five skinned don't. Can I get nothing but
emojis that are the, you remember the AOL guy? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was basically like a like a
sign person, except they were yellow. Can I just get nothing but AOL emojis? Yeah.

paper clip. Oh, Clippy. Yeah. Oh, okay. Now I remember flying, flying toasters. We need

I don't know if this applies for women or not, but I feel like for guys,
middle-aged is whenever you start to lose your hair.
Like, it doesn't matter what age you are. You had no idea.
You're 21. It doesn't matter.
As soon as you start seeing more hairs going, you're like, oh, God, no.
That's what it hits you. That's what it hits you.
Well, I think you hit middle-aged is when you lose your hair,
but then you can't get off the floor either.
Yeah. Oh, no, I can't get up.
You see your hairs on the floor. You go to pick them up and you can't get back up.
Then you know you're there. Yeah.
And you're just sitting there on your floor with your gray hairs and your balding skull.
And you're, why? Why?
But it's still better than the alternative.

but he really doesn't do well running

So we're going to continue the pizza talk with Pizza Hut.
Pizza Hut in Canada put up a sign to announce
that they were only open for take-away, take-out and delivery.
Or is it called in Canada?

And we've been through a little of this here
in Wisconsin Rapids.
Our own pizza hut just recently moved and everything.
Yeah.
I think this is something throughout the Pizza Hut
around the country that is going on right now.
And when that kind of thing happens,
how do you let your customers know?
You put it on a sign.
You usually put it on a sign or something like that.
So they have up on their sign,
due to unforeseen circumstances,
the dining room will be closed this evening.

They're getting hazard pay.

One person joked dinner has been cut short.
Another said,
guess they're making some staffing cuts.

and a local hospital chumped in to say that they could handle
the circumcision.

The Pizza Hut also had a sense of humor about it.
They apologized, confirmed that it was an auto-correct issue,
and put up a new sign that emphasized the whole circumstances.
Big capital letters and everything.
Ah, the joys of English.
They also hyped a new $5 promotion and jokingly added, quote,
no tip required.
Oh, Lordy.
That's, I mean, you can't buy that kind of average.
No, no, the tea, I mean, that's, you know,
leaning into it in that sense was awesome.
They really decided that they did the right thing there.

We'll get to, I'm going to take you right to the top of the hour

And I get doing this in the summer,
but in New England, in the dead of winter,
I'm not sure about it.
I don't know.
But then again, crime does not have brain,
you know, brain cells or anything like that.

We go to our feature, that ain't right story here.
A 35 year old guy named Travis Jones
got arrested in West Haven, Connecticut Monday night.
After stealing a truck,
filled with $30,000 worth of ice cream.
He literally stole an ice cream truck.
Oh my gosh.
It was a delivery truck for an Indian ice cream brand
called Shahi Kofi.
The driver was parked outside of business
when Travis jumped in and took off with it.
Cops started canvassing the area
and eventually spotted the truck
speeding down a highway on its way out of town.
They pulled Travis over,
arrested him without incident.
He's facing charges of first degree,
larceny.
He ain't coming out any time soon.
So this is clearly a that ain't right story
and knucklehead stealing, you know,
yeah, right, right, all that.
But if you are going to be,
if you are doing this,
I love the, I have a hard time imagining
that he knew that there was ice cream in the truck.
It feels like one of those things
where he does it and just figures,
well, there's got to be something worthwhile back there.
And then he finds out what's,
but then he finds out what's back there.
And so then he tries to like make his money off of this
by like running around neighborhoods
selling the ice cream.
I love, I love the idea.
He grabs the truck.
So it's $30,000.
But as as the ice cream melts,
the value goes down.
He's got a little ticker on the thing there.
So no, it's $29, 28 milkshakes.
Get your frosty chocolate milkshakes.
No, please.
I also, I feel it's soup.
Anybody?
It does feel like one of those things too,
where, you know, okay, yeah,
you shouldn't steal.
It's all wrong and everything.
But you go back and you look at the back of that truck
and you instantly become a 10 year old kid.
Like, oh, all this ice cream.
It's all mine.
A lot of people don't realize,
and they didn't continue on in the article about this.
They caught Travis because he had a brain freeze.
Oh, brain freeze had to pull over.
Had to pull over.
Yeah, wow, wow.
She's bad.
That was bad.

I need to add.

So dry January ends tomorrow.
A dietician broke down the two biggest tips
when it comes to choosing a healthier beverage.
Also, but I'll always be looking for drinks
that are low in sugar and higher in health ingredients.
Okay.
So for those that I believe everybody understands
what dry January is, you take off the month,
you're not drinking or anything.
And then some people are kind of hidden back on it,
starting February tomorrow.
Starting tomorrow, right?
So they were looking at the healthiest types of alcoholic drinks.
And I feel like this is a bit of a that ain't right story.
I mean, I kind of feel like.
I'm with you on this.
Yeah, the healthy alcohol.
Okay.
Just to get the information out there, hard celters.
Most are just sparkling water in a clear liquor,
like tequila or vodka.
Just look for ones with no added sugar.
Okay.
Red wine.
I'm just thinking how that's going to taste.
Oh, wow.
I don't get the, I don't get the celture thing.
But I never got celture to begin with.
Without alcohol.
If you don't want something super sweet,
a celture is not a bad choice.
Yeah, yeah.
When I was in grade school, I loved the New York celture.
Right.
I had a stretch there where I drank tons and tons of those.
The thing I'm thinking of though is the alcohol taste.
Because that you're not covering that at all at this point.
It's just straight, whatever, you know,
whatever alcohol they use.
Usually vodka for those things.
So vodka doesn't really have much of the taste.
It depends on how good the vodka is.
Red wine.
You're kind of sore.
Yeah.
Red wine, however.
Yeah, there we go.
Now we go.
It's chock full of antioxidants,
which can reduce inflammation and help prevent cancer
and heart disease.
Yep.
Immoteration.
Unless, yes.
Nicely done.
Unless you are allergic to tannins.
And red all red wine has tannins in it.
That can make you feel luffy.
So there are quite a few,
quite a few studies on wine that have been done
in recent years about this and everything.
I think it's always kind of cool when things that we kind of weren't sure
if they were old wise tales or not.
And they're as actual fact and science behind it
that it worked out that way.
It's interesting.

Bloody Mary's.
Tomato juice typically doesn't have a lot of sugar,
plus what other alcoholic drink comes with a celery and, you know, a dinner.
A whole dinner lady.
Depending on where you go.

You can get a whole bunch of garnishes on that.
We got to do some places that do like a Bloody Mary bar
where you can build your own.
Yes, that's true because that I get pickled green beans
and I don't have to have a Bloody Mary.
I've been thinking about this and I've been thinking about different things
that we could do here at WFHR to support our local businesses and that
and we don't get a chance we don't have a lot of advertisements with our bars.
And I don't know if anybody has noticed,
but there's a lot of bars in Wisconsin.
There is.
It feels like an untapped market.
It feels like, you know,
untapped market.
Oh my gosh.

When it comes to that, I think that while we couldn't do it
like a Bloody Mary contest on the air,
while we're drinking Bloody Mary's or anything,
what we could do with the Bloody Mary thing is the most creative Bloody Mary.
We could do that.
Oh, we got to do his look at him then.
All we got to do is look at him and hear a description of him and everything.
There you go.
I think that would be a fun thing to do to get all of that idea.
Is many customers call in and tell us where they've had their favorite one?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, it's work on that.
Well, you know, we're bound to scenes on that one.
I think that'd be kind of a fun thing.
Actually, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And hot toddies, it's hot water,
fresh lemon juice, honey, and whiskey about as healthy as it gets.
Yeah, quote, and I put quotations around healthy, of course.
Yeah, yes, yeah.
As a not horrible.
Yeah, is that one?
It's not high in sugar.
Yeah, there you go.
I've never had a hot toddy.
And I also, I think that's in part because I can't say,
I couldn't imagine going to somebody and saying,
yeah, I'd like a hot toddy.
I can't do it.
I can't do it.
There's probably very few bars that you could even order that in.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
That's more, you know,
how many of them have hot water?
That's like a summer club thing.
So I tell you out when I was the bar manager at the
Duluth Entertainment Convention Center,
we would have in the wintertime, we would have special,
that would be something we would offer,
like for like specific events.
We would have like a hot brandy or a hot toddy or some
or a ton, or a ton of Jerry's kind of thing, you know,
but that we would have to specifically set up for it,
though, of course, because like you said,
you need the hot water and you need all the extra ingredients.
So, but yeah, otherwise,
yeah, you're probably not going to find it.
We need a palette cleanser.
