Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off with us right here at WFHR, locally grown radio, 904 in the clock at your host, James J, I am joined by our head of, uh, I was gonna say our head of volunteering.

I was gonna say our head of volunteer. I mean, whatever you got, it's better than something you could say.

Uh, at least it is a little bit. Terry Johnson's with us. Terry, good to have you with us. Good morning.

Appreciate the company. Thanks so much for hanging out with us. Terry, we're gonna have some fun this hour. We got good things coming up. I'm gonna dive into some entertainment in a little bit.

I also want to get into the latest terms that make you sound old. The latest term that makes us sound old. We're gonna get into that and see if we can make ourselves sound younger. Yeah.

Um, you could get up to $10,000 just by giving up your smartphone for a month. We're gonna tell you about that. That's coming up along with an update on the United Way and plenty more.

We're gonna get into this hour, looking forward to it. Let's dive right into some entertainment news here, Terry. And this kind of hits home close to a kid's a little close to home for you and I.

Andrew McCarthy, you know, from pretty in pink, scene, almost fire. Uh, he has made a documentary called Bratz about the cultural phenomenon around the Brat Pack of the 1980s. Really?

I cannot wait to see this. Yeah, I would like to see that too. He says, quote, the Brat Pack has a has cast a long shadow over my life and career. All of these years, I was curious to see how it affected my fellow Brat Pack members.

What I found was surprising and liberating. Andrew interviewed other members like Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Ali Shidi, Emilio Estevez, John Crier. He also sat out with New York magazine writer who coined the term Brat Pack in 1985 cover story.

Sounds like you did a really diligent job. A release date hasn't been announced yet, but it's expected to premiere on Hulu later this year.

I'm totally watching. I am gonna watch this immediately, like immediately. I'm gonna watch that. That's cool.

As a young person in the 80s growing up and wanting to be an actor, those actors right there that I just mentioned, all of them I learned from, all of them I watched, enjoyed all of their careers.

Was Molly Ringwald on the list?

I just thank you so much and I apologize, Terry. I think you've been around me too long because we have been doing this all day.

I'm thinking so scary for me, folks. I cannot imagine how scary it is for you. I feel for you so much. If it was the reverse, it'd be a good thing.

I mean, I could probably use to be a little more like you. Where's Molly Ringwald? Where's Molly Ringwald? You can't have this without Molly Ringwald.

That's very interesting.

That really shocks me a little bit. I can't imagine why she's not on this list. She was a part of that group.

She was totally part of that group. She was bigger than Demi Moore back then.

Oh, yeah. Big time.

Hopefully, she's not there because she refused.

I hope it's not that. I mean, I don't know how he could overlook her. Maybe they'll say something about it. Maybe we have to wait and see.

I understand that Demi Moore has become probably the biggest star out of this group eventually she did.

The Demi Lee West have had probably one of the better careers out of this group. But you can't have this without Molly Ringwald.

She was the queen of this group back in the day.

So in sociology class in high school, like right now, my daughter is in it.

And they just watched the breakfast club.

Oh, awesome.

As part of sociology, right?

Oh, my God.

Oh, my God.

And I love that movie. Right?

I'm like, what would you think? She's like, because they watch half one day, half the next. Right? So this is halfway through.

She's like, well, they're just sitting there.

I mean, that was like a, that was a big movie.

It's still an iconic movie to me.

But I just started laughing. She's like, yeah.

And then just was talking about, because I was like, well, tell me how they're pulling this into your sociology class.

You know, that kind of thing.

But you know, it was, it was a lot of like, which of the characters do you associate with?

Or do you know, like, like those kinds of things?

But it was so funny because she's like, yeah, they're just sitting there.

I'm like, yeah, that's the movie. That's the point.

There's so many great parts of that movie and aspects of it.

But that movie was one of the first to really try to do that, to try to go, okay, we're going to have the jock.

We're going to have the crappy.

We're going to have that, you know, this.

And not just in the traditional 80s sense of, here's these characters, watch them have great lives.

No, you're going to actually see a little bit of what makes them that.

And I think, yeah, for me, that's the first movie that, you know, that I think of where it brings the curtain back a little bit.

And it's, and it is helping you understand why these kids are the way they are.

Now, you don't think about that when you're a teenager watching it.

But when you're thinking about, you know, the, the, and I can't remember that I don't know the actor's name,

but, you know, where his dad was, was the drunk and he was, you know, in the smoking.

And I don't know, it just, it was very, it's very, yeah, very interesting to me how that all,

how much they were sneaking in, you know, that psychology, sociology stuff.

I, that movie was, I love that movie.

It's one of my all time favorite movies.

And I would say that it was influential.

There was a lot I liked about it.

I always, I really, really had a crush on Ali Shidi.

I really liked Ali Shidi.

And it would be, it would be a side of things to come as I would date a lot of Ali Shidi's in my life.

There you go.

But to me, it was Emilio Estevez's character that was so eye-opening to me because I grew up in a sports family.

And I know a lot of what my, I grew up in a very different sports family.

My papa, my nana, the way they supported my dad in sports was, was really like, this is an added bonus to whatever else he does.

Where it's his character was everything.

First of the pressure.

Yeah, instant pressure.

I don't, I think it was actually eye-opening for me when I moved out here.

And I would be a lot of my friends were athletes, especially in wrestling and that and the pressures and the different things that would be on them.

And I understood that a little bit better because of that movie I swear.

Like it, it was interesting how there was so much fun and just silliness and weirdness about that movie.

But there was also some parts of it that were like.

But it wasn't, maybe as far-fetched as, you know what I mean?

Like, I don't know.

I thought it was funny, but when she brought that up and I still, and because of Molly Ringwald, one of my favorite parts of that movie still is when she takes out her diamond earring.

And puts it in his hand.

Yes.

You know what I mean?

Like that's just, oh, that's so good.

It's so good.

And I cannot hear, don't you forget about me and not put my fist in the air.

I have to.

I have to at some point.

And that song is just that movie.

Psychonics.

Yeah.

Selena Gomez, we talked about her, I believe last week.

Last week.

She's going to be doing a Linda Ronstant biopic.

They have not started filming that yet in part because she is busy with her former co-star, David Henry.

And the reviving wizards are way, really, place.

They're with an update take.

The show originally ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2012 on the Disney Channel.

The new series follows David as a grown-up Justin Russo, who's ditched his powers for a magic-free life with his family.

But what changes when a young wizard needs help?

Selena will make a guest appearance in pilot and the pilot episode as sister Alex.

She and David also serve as executive producers.

So I will totally watch that because that show was popular when my kids were little.

So we watched that show.

So I'll watch that.

This comes from like a part.

Apparently this is also something that the fans have been wanting.

Like they didn't just come up with this on their own.

Fans have been like, hey, we want this back.

And especially with her star rising more and more.

It's so often actors are taught by their agents or by industry executives and everything.

Don't talk about that movie you did in the past.

Don't let anybody know about that.

Scratch the earth of it and everything.

I love when actors give credit to where their careers came from.

Drake did this quite a bit.

He was on a TV show.

DeGrasse Heights or something like that.

I always thought it was cool that he did that.

I think the best example for me is George Clooney.

Where George Clooney, he's got the ER fame.

And he's just starting to turn into a big-time A-list star.

And they try to embarrass him.

Like, hey, George, you know, your first movie was Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

And he's right away.

Oh, I love that movie.

I had such a good time on the set.

We had so much fun.

It was awesome.

I love the way he flipped it.

Yeah, because then what's the retort to that, right?

Like, oh, great.

Yeah, good for him.

I got a break, man.

Yeah, I got my foot in the door and look what I did with it.

And nothing that you see today would be here without that.

Exactly.

Yeah.

I thought that Bruce Willis was always really cool about this too.

Bruce Willis got his start on General Hospital.

And they tried to embarrass him once with that.

And he just looks at the interviewer, looks him straight in the face and says,

that's how I got here.

Yeah, what are you doing?

Like, what are you trying to do?

That's not working.

I never understand that with interviewers.

You will never, ever catch me as an interviewer trying to do a gotcha moment

or embarrass my interview in the person that I'm interviewing or something like that.

That's ridiculous.

It's the opposite of the job to me.

It's the opposite of the way I learned it from Carl and Conan and all the people that I've seen do it.

Let's take a quick look at what's new on your small screen this weekend.

Not really big, not too much in movies.

Too many big movies being released.

Most of your big hits that were already out in the last two weeks are pretty much in the big things in theaters.

So what's new on your small screen?

Well, on CMT tonight, need to breathe guests on the CMT campfire sessions.

Should be a good one.

I've heard good things about that.

Yeah, it's pretty good.

I mean, I can't say that I watch it regularly, but like sometimes there's a certain artist that I want to see

so that I'll just hop out and record it so that I can watch it later.

I've caught a couple of them.

I like them.

I'd like to get, I'd like to actually pull some of the music from some of them to play on WI or I don't think there's some good stuff there.

The second season, the 22nd season premiere of the real, real time with Bill Marr premieres on HBO.

He'll have Gavin Newsom on with him.

Friday on Amazon, the second season finale of Reacher comes out.

That's a fun show if you just want to see some, some people get beat up.

Like if you just want to see a big towering man come to a town and like just, you know, rework things and make things happen to all this.

It's just one of those mindless kind of shows if you like action.

Saturday on ESP on ABC, the NFL division will play off again.

The Baltimore Ravens versus the Houston Texans, Lamar Jackson versus CJ Stroud football.

Saturday also at 630, you know what I'm talking about.

The NFL division playoff game between the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Green Bay Packers.

Nobody needed me to tell them that.

Not in this market.

So you know something I've said something fun about that.

The at Lincoln High School this weekend on Saturday.

There's a basketball game that was rescheduled from one of the snow days and it's sport team at night.

So if you've heard about that, you know, it's a class that plans it and everything.

So sport team at night also got moved.

But then when the Packers won, I think they panicked a little bit because how can we have all of this going on?

And it's important it's important to the school community.

Yeah.

So they're actually showing the Packer game at the event.

Nice.

So I mean, wait a think on your feet, right?

Absolutely.

So people can check in on the game.

They can watch, but they can be part of the event.

So you know, just a shout out to all the kids that have worked really hard on that event for tomorrow.

And you get the best of both, right?

Right.

You get the event.

You can catch the Packers and cheer on Lincoln High School basketball.

Be sure to check out sport team at night, support your local high school, support your local organizations, and especially these kids.

You're supporting these kids.

Wait a think on your feet.

Really smart, really smart.

It makes you feel really good about the future when you hear things like that.

Honestly, I love stuff like that.

I mean, this is a great one.

These two teams have been playing each other.

I don't know if you can call them rivals, but it isn't as if they don't know each other.

You know, these organizations have played each other multiple times.

Sometimes one team winning, sometimes another.

I don't believe that anybody, San Francisco is a 10 point favorite in this game.

And I think that you're playing with house money if you're green Bay.

Yeah, you weren't expected to be here.

You didn't know what you had in Jordan Love.

You didn't know what you were going to do defensively with that coordinator with Barry and everything.

The fact that you are here icing on the cake, baby.

I mean, you won if you're a Packer fan.

You've already won.

You wanted to come into this season to what do we have in a quarterback?

Looks like you got one.

Looks like you got a quarterback.

I think you're working out okay.

No matter what happens in this game outside of a horrible injury or anything knocking on wood.

We don't want anything like that to any player.

You've already won if you're a Packer fan.

You can go into 2024 season already feeling pretty dang good.

So whatever happens in this game, if you win, you know, sky's the limit.

How cool would it be?

This is my dream.

And I got nothing to get some San Francisco 49ers.

And I really have no dog in this race.

But what I would love to see is in the NFC Championship game,

the Detroit Lions versus the Green Bay Packers.

Yeah, would that be fun?

All NFC North NFC Championship.

That'd be awesome.

I do want to just tell you you don't ever have a dog in the race.

Jacob Elberby hosts Saturday Live with Rhino Rap as a musical guest.

And then on Sunday, more football, Detroit hosting Tampa Bay.

Nothing against the Packers fans or anything like that.

I'm really pulling for Detroit.

I really want to see Detroit.

I'd love to see that.

And then on the big game on Sunday night, Buffalo versus Kansas City.

That's going to be a good one.

Should be a great game right there.

Apparently, according to them, we are ancient now.

Young people claim that they never really use it.

And maybe there's a good reason.

Because they're never really away from their computers.

Everyone has their phone on them constantly.

Because if somebody says that to you, it's not because they're not on their phone.

It's because they're avoiding you.

It's so right.

The discussion kicked off after someone posted a photo of what using a computer used to mean in the early 2000s.

It's a shot of an old computer desk with a tower computer keyboard, monitor, mouse pad and everything.

So like the desk we're at?

Yeah, pretty much.

I just kind of looked over.

Yeah.

It's even got a built-in CD tower.

Those desks always had.

Which we too have, I think, somewhere around here.

I mean, I kind of actually miss having that drive on my computer.

Another person retweeted the photo and said something that resonated with a lot of millennials and gen-exers.

Quote, it was kind of nice when the internet was a single solitary, unmoving place instead of all that it is now everywhere.

You want to be, you want, you went to this specific spot to go to the internet.

And when you left that spot, you left the internet.

It was a place.

And I am not one of these people that romanticizes the past or tries not to romanticize the past.

But I do hear what they're saying.

I also, I think even back then, we kind of understood that this was going to be the way the internet was was growing.

It was only temporary, really like that.

But do you think before when it was more stationary, it was like a tool, right?

Like you went there, you used it, whether that was a desk or you were sitting in the chair with a laptop, whatever.

But now it's like an appendage.

Yes, oh yeah, well said, yeah.

And that's a big difference.

You know, we use hammers all the time.

You don't want to be walking around with a hammer on you all the time.

It's the tool aspect of it.

I think we lost sight of it.

Yeah, for sure.

And it is still used as one plenty by plenty of people.

But it is probably used more if you had a pie chart.

I imagine that it's more fun and leisure stuff than it is the technical or the work things.

It's an interesting way to look at it.

When I was a kid or when I was a kid, I moat a lot of lawns.

I did a lot of lawn mowing.

It was a big, you know, way of helping my dad and helping the family

and also making a couple bucks.

And, and then they, I saw writing lawn mowers.

And everything changed after that.

You know, people, people like, it just seemed different to me.

There's a kid's clean car electric scooter that just came out.

It's called a kid's clean car.

It's an electric scooter that kids can ride around the house on flat services.

And it will clean the floors as they're having fun.

It's just like literally like a microfiber cloth, you know, thing across the front.

Now, the funny thing is is you'd have to set up some kind of track for these kids so that they're covering more of the.

Look, could you just see like you walk in the house and you've got a perfectly shiny like track.

You know, I mean that they've been going to rob, but they've never deviated from that area.

Now, you're going to have very clean floors and a bunch of holes in your walls or bumps in your walls.

All these scuff marks all over it.

Did you see how fast it was moving?

I think they would have to slow down to actually clean.

But that's, that is smart.

It's kind of like when I think it's like dirt devil makes like for littles.

It's a, I think there's a broom and a mop and a vacuum cleaner that actually works.

And it's like, oh, kids, grab your vacuums.

We're going to clean.

Enjoy it.

We enjoy it while we can.

Well, kid, there's that there's a very small window where kids will help with chores and enjoy doing them and stuff and everything.

We enjoy that moment.

We enjoy it long as we can.

You know, when you were talking about lawn mulling before, I was thinking about I used to ride my bike from my parents house to my grandma's house about five miles.

Um, mull her lawn and then ride my bike back or sometimes I'd stay overnight and then you know ride my home the next day.

I think seriously.

And this is, this is my, this is against myself.

But like, if I told my kids to do that when they were like 12, ride your bike five miles to go cut the grass.

And that, you know, they'd probably be like, yeah, pass.

That was just normal.

I mean, we just, oh, I don't know.

I would, um, especially when we first moved out here and where we were living on 23rd, I used to live on the other side of town on 23rd right by Washington school.

And there were some apartments that opened up a couple of years like a year or two after we moved in.

And those apartments had moat lawns that needed to be mowed.

So I dragged the mower like three, four blocks down there didn't think anything of it.

I can't imagine trying to ask a kid doing that nowadays.

I can't even, I didn't even know how that would go unless you want to laugh.

You know, I guess that's the only reason I don't know.

Um, that, that's fun though.

I like this.

This is a fun idea.

The idea of more items like this, more things like this for fair.

Got this grand brand new game.

I mean, this is what you do.

Okay.

You spray this mist on the window.

And then you've got to get rid of the mist.

Go on and get to it.

There's more than that.

I mean, you know, child labor laws fall five.

I think they probably see right through that one.

There's this new game where you go over to the garbage can.

You see if it's full.

So like that, I could handle.

I don't think I could have a four or five year old clean my windows.

I think I'd be like,

You don't even want a 46 year old in me doing it.

I can clean just about anything.

I am horrible at cleaning windows.

I don't know what it is.

I, people ask me to do it because I'm tall all the time.

But I'm bad at it.

For me, it's probably that.

The whole show has been the right story, really.

When you order food delivery now,

you can usually customize the drop off like contactless deliveries

during the pandemic and things like that.

A restaurant in the UK recently got an amusing request

into the delivery notes though.

It said, not quietly, I'm supposed to be on a diet.

Right.

Whenever the diet was, there was definitely a cheat meal.

The order was a nine inch Texas barbecue style pizza,

a double chocolate ice cream waffle with chocolate sauce and a doctor pepper.

Wow.

I'm surprised.

Go bigger, go home.

I'm surprised wasn't a diet doctor pepper.

Yeah.

The restaurant posted a photo of the receipt

and said that they made sure the driver honored the request

because they didn't want to, quote, betray the customer trust.

So, all right, let's unpack this.

At first, I was like, that's weird.

But then I'm thinking, so do you think that there's someone else

in the home that they didn't want the attention drawn to?

You know what I mean?

So, this person's totally sneaking the food.

Yeah.

From someone else, from someone else knowing.

I feel, I think that's what it was.

That's what it feels like it was at least.

I don't know.

Who's at the door?

Wrong address.

What the movie love actually?

Where she opens the door and he's standing out there

and he's like, don't tell you.

I remember seeing, I heard people hyping that movie up

before I actually saw it.

And everybody talks about that scene and how romantic it is,

how beautiful it is.

She's got her boyfriend in the house.

This guy is standing out there.

I mean, she's basically with her boyfriend five feet away.

She's thinking about being with this other guy.

I'll keep it down.

But look, Andrew Lincoln's handsome for all the days.

I get it.

But, come on.

What are we teaching here?

What are we doing?

What do you think she did with the pizza box after?

Oh.

I shouldn't assume it was a sheet.
