Hour 1: Depressed robots…

Mornings with WFHR · Thu Dec 14, 2023

Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. We hope it's treating you good.

We're certainly going to Seth and James here with you. Good morning, Seth. Good morning.

Good morning to all of you. Thanks so much for being here. We got some fun stuff lined up for you today.

We're going to kick things off with our friends from the Weather Eye Weather Center. Good morning, Paul.

Yeah, good morning to you guys. How's it going over there?

Oh, well, I'm over there. We're doing pretty good. We're doing pretty good. I Melissa's news break there.

Just told us about some tubing. I miss tubing. I mean, I miss tubing in this time of year.

I mean, it's snow first. Yeah, we do need snow for that. Are we going to be able to tube any time soon, Paul?

Oh, man. Yeah, what I think of tubing as a kid, I remember patching a lot of holes in tube.

Yeah, what happened to, yes, absolutely. Yeah, at least three or four times I happen to me. Yeah.

Yeah, exactly. Yeah, but yeah, not ideal tubing weather. No, looking for us here.

Might have a better chance on the lake than you do on the water here.

Exactly. Yeah, oddly enough.

It is going to be continued with a sunshine in these unseasonally warm temps today with highs in the upper 40s.

Winds out of the Southwest, 10 to 15. Tonight's conditions say clear and mild 30 for a low and then increasing clouds for Friday mid 40s tomorrow and then Friday night 32.

Chances for some light rain showers move in. Light rain showers Saturday highs at about 39.

And then still looking at clouds Saturday night 30 and then for Sunday, some lingering clouds highs at about 40.

Still looking at a little colder next week to start off with some low 30s Monday with some sunshine and then back to some upper 30s to four degree temps Tuesday and Wednesday.

So yeah, not a great outlook for tubing.

Well, at least now we know, at least now we know. You don't have to wait. At least you've been warned. Yeah. Yeah.

Well, it's good. That's good enough. Thank you, Paul. We appreciate you. We'll get people ready for the weekend tomorrow. You have a great day, man.

All right. Sounds good. You guys do best in the business right there. Good friend Paul, probably from the weather.

Weather center. Oh, good stuff. I do miss tubing, though.

I did. I did. There's so much. What do you think doing that? What's slightly terrifying, too? I mean, that's the other thing.

It's scaryness to it. If you think about it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. With that, I haven't done a ton of skiing. I've done a bit of snowboarding.

Okay. But I haven't done that. I would like to ski. I would like to cross country ski a little bit more. I did that a lot when I was a kid.

Cross country skiing. I tried that school. I had to ski 20 miles to know. I never tried the, I tried to say I tried the downhill thing a little bit.

That was not my cup of tea. So I enjoyed snowboarding. I like that. The thing I liked about the best part about snowboarding is opposed to like regular skateboarding.

When you fall, it's just on snow. Exactly. It's so much better. It's so much better. I can't create. Right.

We got something we want to tell you about the kickoff our show because we had a lot of good things to get to this morning.

I want to touch on. We've got the, where is it here? Oh, yeah. How many kids is too many kids? We'll kind of get into how this interesting thing about having two kids can be great. Three kids might hurt you. We'll see.

There should be interesting debate rages on. Yeah. We got four tips to avoid losing your luggage when you fly. That is coming up a little bit later. That's a good one.

And we, in this hour, of course, within the nine o'clock hour, when that kicks off, we're going to have our good friend Madison Rafter from the South of County Humane Society joining us with our pet of the week. Yeah.

Looking forward to that afterwards, going to get into a little bit of entertainment news. We did not get a chance yesterday to give some respect to Andre Brower.

I want to make sure to do that. Yeah. Also got some interesting stuff about a musical coming up that I don't think any of us saw coming.

Wow. Okay. And I want to talk about our local holiday show that kicks off tonight. A candle in the window. The newest WRCT show that you can get at WR, tickets at WRC theater.org. Excellent.

Also are these Christmas traditions overrated? Hmm. Got that one. Well, we will tell you. We will let you know if they're overrated.

We'll see if we got that time for that one. Or I really want to get into this with you. The best Christmas movies for kids. Oh, okay.

I almost called you Christmas. You almost call me Christmas. Yeah. That's very kind to you. But you know, I know it's just about the time. Too much going on. Too much going on.

All that coming up for you. We're looking forward to all of it. But I did want to touch on two things this morning real quick. One.

This Christmas season give our sister station was country 105 WIRI a jingle from tonight from four to six.

We are going to let your little ones put in their last minute gift I give wishes. That's right.

And we got a week or so left here. We haven't had a chance to talk to Santa directly. Guess what? We've got the line for them. Yeah.

Well, this is all possible thanks to our great friends of current technology. Solaris and quality foods. It's a really fun event that we get to do. Yeah.

And we are very fortunate. Now while we have had a very difficult time. Pam and I trying to land Santa for midday magazine. It's a tough guy to get, man.

Years, years, it's been trying to land. We have managed to land some Santa's elves. Excellent.

We got some of Santa elves here to answer the phones. Yeah. Seth and I were talking about this on a sunrise show.

Santa, very busy this time of year. And his elves, even more busy, you would think. But not every elf is great at making toys.

Sometimes you need to watch Rudolph, right? Right. Some are dentists.

Yeah. So we got the elves. We got other ones that are really good at answering phones. Exactly.

Yeah. So we're going to be having some of those elves here. That's going to be fun. From four to six, be sure to call 844-568-0636.

That's 844-568-0636. Again, from four to six today, get your little ones. Christmas wishes in. And you'll be covered for Christmas.

All right. We want to send a big shout out to our friends again at Current Technology, Salaris, Quality Foods, and of course,

the great team that we have here in Santa for lending us these elves. Thank you, elves.

Thank you, thank you, elves. Thank you, Santa for doing that. We know it's a busy time of year.

We will get that phone number out again at the end of the next show here. We'll make sure to get that out there.

But if you'd like it sooner than that, give us a call 424-2600. Join the conversation anytime. We'd love to hear from you.

Seth, I got one here for us that is kind of interesting. It could actually create some interexisting conversations out there.

We're about 10 days from Christmas. So how's your holiday shopping coming along? If you're out buying gifts for people right now,

you may want to listen to this list. It might be interesting. You must be pretty good if you got most of your stuff down.

Because in a new survey, 89% of Americans say they have bought gifts for people at the very last minute. 89%.

I don't know what I could throw out there right now that I think we would get 89% of a vote on.

I genuinely don't know. I don't know what I could say right now. Okay, I'm going to guarantee we're going to get at least 89% of people to vote yes on this one.

I don't even know what to throw out. There's an example. That's a tough one. Yeah, that's tough. So this happening. That's interesting.

And that's surprisingly those usually are not for your significant other. Although if it was, you wouldn't admit it properly.

No, no, no. 32% of people have bought last minute gifts for friends. 27% have gone down to the wire to get gifts for extended family.

And 17% say that they have shopped late for their siblings. 13% of people say that they have run out of get out to get small last minute gifts for postal carriers and trash collectors.

Oh, that's nice. Yeah. And five percent have picked up a present for their kids teachers right before the school's holiday break.

Very good. That's, you know, I see, I see a trend here. So you generally get the gifts for that, you know, the important people, you know, the quote unquote important people, you know, the close people to you.

Yeah, yeah. You get those done pretty early and stuff like that. But then it could be one of those things like, oh, I needed to get a gift for so and so for, you know, cousin Charlie or whatever.

Or like they said, the teacher, your kids teacher or something like that, I think it tends to be more like that. You kind of overlook certain people, you know, that aren't as close to you as your family is.

I think you you end up getting gifts most more times than not for the people that you first think of when you think of Christmas gifts.

Right. Right. And you don't tend to you, you want to think of and you want to do things for, for, you know, male carers, trash collectors, teachers, all these people.

But you don't maybe think of it right away. No. So this time of right around this time of the year is when that stuff starts to occur to you.

Right. Yeah. I didn't get anything for Mrs. So and so and something like that.

I don't think it's necessarily anything that's, you know, not coming from the heart. It's just yeah. There's a lot on our plates this time of year.

Absolutely. And I love that we are still I remember being a little kid and asking my Nana what she was doing. It's like Jimmy, I, because we didn't have any mail. She's putting mail in the mailbox. What are you doing?

Oh, it's for the mail carrier. I like to get him a Christmas card. And there's a, there wasn't a gift card and there was something in there or whatever.

But there was a gift in there. Maybe money. This is back in the day and stuff. Right. And I just thought it was the coolest thing. And that was when I was about eight, nine years old.

That we're still doing this. Like I'm really thankful that we did to the people that out there are still doing these things.

Our, we just got through not that long ago a pandemic. Right. How many people had garbage piling up? You know, many people had recycling piling up. Yeah, no kid.

Our trash collectors, our recycle collectors were out there working their tails off for us during that during one of the most dangerous times in our country's history. Right.

Our mail carriers a very similar story. Yep. And currently working their tails off for us during this season. This season, especially we continue to buy boxes from Amazon and all these things and lose our minds.

We don't get them at the exact right time. Right. And who do we, who do we bark about? Who do we yell at? We don't yell at Amazon. We yell at the mail carriers. Right.

And my God, the disrespect that we give to teachers nowadays is insane to me. Whether you agree with what a teacher is doing or not, that teacher is doing something you're not doing.

I think that all these things, all of these groups and many, many other groups out there, lunch ladies.

You know, crosswalk people that help kids cross the guard, crossing guards, you know, all of these people deserve something. We can't always do like a gift card for everybody or something like that.

But you can dang sure say, hey, have a Merry Christmas to everybody. You wish everybody a happy holiday.

And if you are like myself and of a different faith, you cannot get bent out of shape over Merry Christmas.

Any, any more than people that like I've noticed this the last week, I've been posting a lot of Hanukkah stuff.

I wanted to see done this for a couple of reasons. I think that it's important in this day and age with the rise of anti-Semitism to share knowledge.

This is what Hanukkah is, what you think it is is very different than what it actually is. Right. And I was kind of seeing. I mean, anybody, because I've never, my whole life, I've never seen anybody get bent out of shape when I wish I'm happy Hanukkah or something like that.

And they're not, they're Gentile. Right. I don't understand the pushback on that. I don't understand it. And I don't think that there is a big, it's mostly media driven.

But I do like to touch on that just from my perspective. I don't see an issue with it.

Most people are saying these things. When you say I love you to somebody, do you say it to hear it back or do you say it?

Because I just say it. Right. When I say Merry Christmas, I'm not saying it to hear it back. So it's very similar to me.

Yeah. You know, you don't have to have the same, celebrate the same day. Right.

To say it back. People are just wishing you goodwill. Right. There's not wrong.

Or saying, you know, like, because there's a lot of holidays right now. You could say happy holidays. And that's, it includes all of them.

It includes New Year's. It includes Hanukkah. Maybe, maybe includes Kwanza. Maybe includes all these different holidays that we have this time of year.

So in general, happy holidays. What's wrong with that? You know, just nothing wrong.

Saying happy holidays is not about canceling Christmas. It's about covering your bases.

Yeah. I don't want to offend anybody's feelings or anything like that, especially this time of year.

I cover my bases. It's like when you don't know somebody's name, but you know you should.

Oh, so and so. Right. This guy. This guy. This guy.

And you give him a couple punches. You punch him in the arm a little bit. Yeah. Like what are you doing? Yeah.

Exactly. Who are you again? I couldn't remember your name. I'm sorry. You got one of those harder. Remember difficult names. Tom Tom.

It was tough for me. Take a break. We'll come back.

I get that shopping doubt everybody. Get it out of the way. We'll come back with some more fun.

We got Misty's many birthday anniversary club coming up on the morning show at WFHR.

See if we got a new one. Good morning. What's in your mind? Yeah. Good morning. Goose balls. Hey. Hey.

It's not a birthday. Maybe an anniversary. I just didn't want anybody to forget that today is the day that sitting bowl died.

Yeah. You know anything about that. That actually means something, especially if you were to look up the history of him and.

Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a political times. I don't want to get political because I listen to the previous hour.

And that was really high power. Yeah. Yeah. But yes, sitting bowl born on a stay in 1831 in South Dakota.

One of I think one of the most one of the more important people to read about in American history. I think that's very I think that's a safe way to put it.

That I'm afraid about safe. I don't care about that. I more or so just the best way we can put it. I appreciate the call brother. You have a good day.

Yeah. We too. Right. Yeah. There is actually I actually sent to a friend of mine. I want to say gosh just a couple months ago.

Actually, there's a YouTube thing on who was sitting bowl for kids because he wanted his son to learn a little bit about it.

So sent that over. I think that I'm sure that's still out there. There's a lot of really good information out there.

Especially nowadays about sitting bowl and about many of those great great to people that existed back then.

If you get a get a chance listen to his famous speech. I will fight more forever. It's one of the most moving and amazing speeches you'll ever hear.

I read that for a class once. And I actually got caught up in it while I was reading it.

Even though I've read it a bunch of times to get you very moving. Yeah, really.

Yes. We take it dive into our birthdays and anniversaries. We got one on the list today.

So we get to put spotlight on Angie playing. Happy birthday Angie. Enjoy your day Angie.

Yeah. That's a great one for you. And you are a qualifier for today. Qualify by default. Yes.

The way I always win. Same. And I'll take it to get a trophy that says default on it.

Yeah, that's right. Sit at home. Let's take a look at our celebrity list.

Tori Kelly is 31 pop star who sang Dear No One and start as Mina the elephant in the animal movie sing.

Oh, okay. Cool. My dad loves that movie. Oh, really?

I cannot tell you how many times he's watched that movie. But that's awesome.

He's watched it so many times that for a long time, I thought the lead voice was done by Edward Norton.

Oh, it turns out it's Matthew McConaughey.

Oh, they sound nothing alike. That's well, you know, you get something in your head sometimes.

I really thought it was a word.

Yeah, right. It's a mechanic. My dad actually knew and I didn't and I usually know those things and he doesn't.

He got you. He will not let that go. Oh, he's gonna hold on to that one. Yeah.

Vanessa Hudgens is 35 today. Gabriella in the high school musical Rizzo and Grease Live and Marine and Rent Live.

Oh, good actor.

Yeah, no kidding. Just some good stage stuff too by the sound of it.

Yeah, yeah. Ted Ramey is 58.

Chet Kaminsky and Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

He was a Joker in Hercules and Zina. Zina.

He's also got a lot of supporting roles in Spider-Man, Evil Dead, Dark Men.

The brother of Sam Ramey, I believe. So, yeah, that's nice to have him with Dr. Brother.

Yes, that would be why you see him in a lot of Sam Ramey movies.

And very similar to Ron Howard's brother.

Oh, Clint. Clint, yeah. I love Clint Howard.

I do too. He was great.

Big, great actor. I think he's a great actor.

Yeah, really good. Cynthia Gibb is 60. Holly from Fame.

Oh, gosh, man.

That brought me back.

That brought me back.

There was a point where that show was gigantic.

It was.

It seemed like to come up and fade at the same time.

Almost you.

I do remember that.

It exploded and then just kind of fizzled out really quick.

It was weird.

Cliff Williams is 74.

Retired ACDC bassist.

What is ACDC without the bass?

What is well?

They need a bass.

They do need a bass.

They do need a bass.

They do need what?

D. Wallace is 75.

Elliot's mom and ET.

Oh, that's right.

She was great.

She was great.

Yeah, she did.

She was in like a bunch of horror movies after that.

She was one of those actors that got really typecasted early on.

Like back in the 80s, late 70s, early 80s,

were the height of typecasting.

They typecasting, yeah.

And it was great if you could get a role.

But if you couldn't,

if you didn't want to play that knit,

the mom all the time or something,

it was pretty difficult.

It was rough, yeah.

Let's see.

Joyce Vincent Wilson is 77.

Tony Orlando and Dawn from Tony Orlando and Dawn.

All right.

Ty Leveribin knocked me three times.

Knock, knock three times on the ceiling.

That's a silly song.

A silly song.

A silly.

How Williams is 85?

Officer Smitty on Sanford and Sun.

And a luster on 227.

Oh, wow.

Good TV actor.

Yeah.

And then some people no longer with us.

Like Bill Buckner born in this day in 1949,

passed away in 2019, played 22 seasons

or Major League Baseball.

But will always be remembered, of course,

for letting Mookie Wilson's ground ball roll through his legs,

costing the Red Sox to 86 World Series.

He did not cost the Red Sox to 86 World Series.

No, he did not.

It was one play that didn't go right.

The game was already tied because,

because Rob Murphy had thrown a wild pitch.

It wasn't that, no, sorry.

You lose me on that one.

It was a costly play.

It was, yeah.

But it was not like all it did was just add to the most

superstitious fan in sports, the baseball fan,

and losing their minds, especially as Boston fans.

They could have won game seven.

Yep.

They were, they had the lead at one point in game seven.

So don't give me that.

I'm really, really thankful that before his passing,

that they made good, that the Red Sox brought him there,

that the fans cheered for him and gave him

the standing ovation and everything.

He got that before he passed.

Right.

That's pretty cool.

Right.

You don't get that in sports very often.

And, and I do want to say that he and Mookie Wilson

actually became very good friends.

Yeah.

After that, they became extremely good friends.

Yes.

That's pretty cool.

Yeah.

Patty Duke born in this day in 1946,

passed away in 2016.

Gigantic star for quite some time.

Twins, Patty, and Kathy Lane on the Patty Duke show.

Mm-hmm.

The mother of Lord of the Ring star, Shawn Us.

Shawn Us, yeah.

Mm-hmm.

But a good actor.

Good, good child actor.

She was an excellent actor.

Really, unfortunately, though, too,

also set the, set what would be the standard of how

not to treat child actors.

Her and, oh, what's their name?

The Shirley Temple.

Oh.

Yeah.

A number of those child actors had to pay for,

basically what child actors are now.

Yeah.

If you ever want a horror show, listen to what happened to,

or read about what happened to Judy Garland on the set of

The Wizard of Oz.

It's awful.

It's awful.

It was awful.

Move.

And didn't see this one coming.

No, Mr. Davis is birthday today.

Ha-ha-ha-ha.

Born in, didn't really actually live that long.

Born in 1503, passed away in 1566.

No.

It was only 63.

Yeah.

He was in veiled at all.

Although I suppose for that time, that was probably old age back then.

That's actually pretty good for I suppose in the 1500s, yeah.

French physician, astrologer, and prophet.

There's people know him as that is now, but actually quite the,

quite the physician of his time, quite the astrologer of his time.

And a lot of what we understand about astrology today,

a lot of it stems from no stardomus.

You know, it's funny back then.

Astrology and astronomy were very closely related.

Yeah.

So it's kind of fascinating that what we now consider kind of a silly,

you know, kind of thing, or our fun thing is actually,

in the development of the actual science,

they actually were very closely related.

It's quite interesting.

Yeah.

So I'm wishing a happy birthday to Angie playing.

Happy birthday, Angie.

Happy birthday.

We encourage you to celebrate with our good friends over at Misty's menu.

Treat yourself.

Get on over there.

They're open right now until two.

I'm waiting for you.

Let them know it's your birthday.

Get that free slice of one of Brad's pie.

We encourage you to head on over to 9041.

Stay now with 13th South and Wisconsin Rapids.

Wish them a great day.

Our friends over at Misty's menu.

Stay in local news.

Coming up right here at WFHR.

You know Dysher and Dancer and Brancer and Vixen.

Commit a cupid and donner and Vixen.

But do you recall?

The most famous reindeer of all.

Root off the red nose reindeer.

Had a very shiny nose.

And if you ever saw it.

You would even say it glow.

Like a light ball.

I remember that.

Did not know I'd be on my own on that one.

Sorry.

I thought the backup singers would join me on that.

That came later.

That came later.

That was the original right there.

I couldn't tell you what I had for breakfast this morning.

But I know all of those dang reindeer names.

Man.

That song gets into your head too.

That's what it does.

Fun fact by the way.

That was Gene Autry.

And he's the one who wrote the song as well.

Which is very cool.

Yeah.

That's pretty interesting.

That is really cool.

Seth and James here with you.

We got to dive into this one.

Seth, this is really interesting.

All right.

Did you ever have your mother or father say to you,

you'll be the death of me.

I think I'm pretty sure my mom at least once said that.

I think so.

Yeah.

And parents don't say this seriously, of course.

This isn't venting or anything.

A million things that a parent needs to do in order to get through the next five minutes.

Exactly.

That kind of thing.

But a new study found having kids might actually make you live longer.

It just depends on how many.

Researchers at the University of Michigan looked at the health records of 27,600 people.

And found some parents are five to 10% more likely to live to 76 than people without kids.

Wow.

That's about three years longer than the global average.

But there's a sweet spot.

It's only true for people who have two children.

All right.

I win.

You and Beth are good.

You guys are good.

If you have more kids than that,

you're less likely to make it to 76 than someone who doesn't have kids.

That same applies to if you only have one child.

Really?

They're not sure why two is the magic number.

But the guy who led the study thinks it might strike a balance between, quote,

having a good amount of social interactions and not having too much economic or physical burden.

Either way, if you want kids and you're doing it for purely selfish reasons,

you might want to cap it at two.

If you are doing that, maybe don't have children.

I don't know.

I'd say that seems like an awful, you know, like out there.

Well, if I have two kids, you know, I can live five percent longer, you know.

I love that this story comes from Fox News, too.

Or if you're planning to stop at one,

you may want to rethink that.

Another baby could save your life.

I mean, you never know.

No, no, no.

No.

You're going to have the kids that you're going to have.

Exactly.

My nut and pop had not planned on having seven children.

They just did.

Right.

Right.

I remember asking my father, you know,

my brother, sister and I are all five years apart.

My brother and I are 10 years apart.

As my dad, when I was about 13 or something dead,

why did you and mom plan on having us all five years apart?

He fell down laughing.

Jimmy, you don't play kids.

They just happen.

My dad had it right.

Like, this is the way that I didn't plan on having three kids.

I just had three kids.

Yeah, exactly.

And to be fair, my ex-wife and I were trying with the two of those and everything.

I had one with a girl in high school, of course.

So I don't know.

Now, there's the outlier here.

Modern families.

And by modern families, I mean, anybody who has started a family from 1940s and on.

Right.

I don't know how that applies.

How does that change things up?

You had two kids with this person, one with this person.

I mean, does that change things?

I don't know.

I don't know.

It's like, I find data interesting always.

No, regardless of if it applies to me or not.

But I take it as it is.

Like, there are certain things that are, okay, yes, this is true.

Or this is a defiant thing.

The percentage just tell us that.

There's other things where it's just a survey.

Like, I mean, they interviewed a lot of people.

They asked a lot of people a lot of questions.

Right.

But with that, you're going to have outliers.

You're going to have coincidences.

You're going to have a lot of different things that come into factor there.

So the idea of if you have two kids right now,

and all of a sudden, your wife gets pregnant or something like that.

I don't know.

Yeah, I don't think that means well, I guess we can forget about her 401k.

We don't have to worry about retirement now.

Yeah.

Plus, all of this came from the University of Michigan,

which I don't know.

I mean, they might have cheated and to get those numbers.

I don't know.

I mean, I'm joking.

That was a very broad joke there.

I like that.

But it's a big 10 joke.

It's a big 10 joke.

But you know, you're right.

There's too many factors that we have to take into consideration here.

And some people just want more kids.

Some people want less kids.

Some people want no kids.

And that's fine.

There's nothing wrong with it.

And if you want a big family, go for it.

I mean, it's, yeah.

This is kind of, it's fun to talk,

to say, oh, it's two kids are perfect.

Well, that are my family's perfect.

No, it's nothing to do with that.

I will say that did get one thing right in this survey.

And I genuinely believe this,

whether I have the data to the prove it or not.

When you're having kids, you live longer.

I really do think that.

I think you live longer.

You have it in you as a parent.

I have to be around for my children.

Like they could be 75.

And you feel that way.

You still feel that way.

Yeah.

I've seen it in my grandparents.

I've seen it before.

And I know that's how I would be.

I imagine there's a lot of people out there.

So I do think one way or another,

it does make you,

even if it means you're,

you're, you're scraping and,

and dragging on just to hang in there and everything.

Well, you, you never stop parenting.

You never stop being a parent.

You just can't.

There's still your children, you know?

And it doesn't matter, you know,

when you had them or anything like that,

you're, you're going to feel the same way about them.

That's, that's the truth.

Well, take a, a short break,

pay some bills.

When we come back, we're going to,

I got four tips for dealing with lost luggage.

Okay.

How to not have that happen.

Okay.

All right.

I'll be out with that when we come back.

On the morning show here at WFHR,

locally grown radio.

A lot of other rangers,

you know you're the mastermind.

Run, run, root off.

Run off ain't too far behind.

Run, run, root off.

Santa's got to make it to town.

Santa making hurry,

telling he could take the freeway down.

Run, run, root off.

I'm reeling like a merry corround.

Thank you, Mr. Barry.

Mm-hmm.

Welcome back, everybody.

And morning show here at WFHR,

locally grown radio.

Seth and James here with you.

Top five favorite Christmas songs right there.

Oh, it's one of the best.

I love that one.

Yeah.

We got to get into a couple of tops.

Stay to the top of the hour.

Triple A expects a record 7.5 million Americans

to fly for this holiday year.

Wow, that's a record.

Wow.

So expect even more chaos than usual.

Right.

A travel expert posted a list of tips

in case your checked bag lit gets lost.

And we have four things you might want to do.

Right.

I feel like we do this one every year.

Probably.

And I always like to put it out there to the audience.

Feel free to call up 715-424-2600.

Are you flying anywhere this holiday season?

Let us know and let us know if you have any tips

or if you could use any or any.

Yeah, absolutely.

I know I have flown a lot this time of year.

I don't know if you have set there.

I've had my share.

I've done my share, yeah.

Well, in the time I've known you,

I know you have at least once or twice a year.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So let's take a look at this list

that might help you not lose that bag.

Buy some Apple air tags.

Popping one in your bag has become a popular hack.

But they're not exactly cheap.

Before pack is around $100.

What they're doing here is those Apple air tags

you can find where they are if you lose one.

Right.

Like a tracking thing.

So it's like a tracking thing.

So essentially if you have something similar to that

that you can do, maybe you've got an old cell phone

you're not using or something like that

and put a tracking app on that.

That kind of thing.

There you go.

If you already have these then maybe using one of those

but chances are you might be using them on the plane.

Yeah.

So I don't know if that's going to work.

It's very true.

Yes.

Book a direct flight.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That'd be great.

I love that.

Yeah.

Hopefully you've got your tickets by now.

But in general airlines are far less likely to lose a bag

when they're only putting it on one plane.

Yes.

Okay.

And yes.

And next water is wet.

You know, I think the only direct flight anymore

is like New York's LA.

That's like the end anymore.

That's it.

That's the one direct flight in the United States anymore.

Take a photo of your luggage before you fly.

Now that is a good idea.

Yes.

A lot of bags look the same so if yours gets lost

it's so helpful to have a photo you can send to the airline.

Try tying a ribbon or a unique bag tag on it also helps.

We do that.

Yes.

We have a little rainbow thing that we quote on our bag

to make sure we can spot it when it comes out.

Very cool.

I never did anything like that.

I really wish I would have though.

Now I kind of...

And so much luggage looks the same.

It's hard to tell sometimes.

And you know, I'm thinking about it too and so many times that I've flown

I just had a carry on too.

Yeah.

And then you wouldn't have to worry about it, right?

Print out your itinerary and put it inside your bag.

If it ends up in the wrong city and the tag rips off

then open it up and look inside having your flight info in there

can help you get your bag back as soon as possible.

Oh, that's a good idea.

And thought about that before.

I don't know.

I don't like that one.

I actually think you could have just knocked this down to two things.

I feel like the rest is kind of common sense.

Yeah.

But that one's a good one though.

I don't like that.

I don't like that.

I don't like that.

Have you ever lost your bags?

Occasionally, once or twice.

But usually the airlines that we've gone with have been pretty good

about finding them, getting them to us when, you know,

after everything is said and done.

So it hasn't happened a lot.

But on the occasions it has, it's been all right though.

You know, again, I have mostly just flown by myself

or with a carry on or something like that.

So I really haven't had that happen too often.

Well, that's something else to consider.

If you're able to get everything on carry-ons, especially,

I mean, it depends on, of course, the airline

that you're using whether it's going to cost anything.

But much less chance of losing it if you take everything with you.

One of the touch on a local fun story here.

Not sure if everybody saw this or not,

but our friends out in Stevens Point.

We say good morning to our listeners over there in the point area.

They announce their name, the plow winner.

Nice.

As Stevens Point plows have names, Storm Scooper,

the plower express scoop dog.

It's my favorite.

That's a good one.

And Dasher.

Okay.

Fred Snow Blazer, Mike Wiploski,

a little bit of play on the mayor of Stevens Point.

On the mayor's day.

Yeah.

Snow Rizzler, snow cone, snow bow cop.

That might be my favorite.

Oh, this is a good one, I think.

Cliro Pathera.

Oh, wow.

Cliro Pathera.

Cliro Pathera.

That's a good one.

Snow Daddy, I felt wrong saying that.

You all felt wrong hearing me say it.

Blizzard of Oz.

Yes, that's a good one.

That's a decent.

Blizzard Buster Bob.

Snow Plow Truck Name Bob.

I like that.

And Mr. Beast.

Mr. Beast.

Mr. Beast.

Mr. Beast.

You know, I love the eclectic.

There's a bunch of different names and a very different.

I love it.

That's great.

I love that.

They did such a good job with that.

I want to send a shout out to Sean White at WSAW TV.

Our friends over at Channel 7 sent this over to me.

So this is really fun.

In October, this city is Stevens Point work with area schools,

festival foods, Bushman signs on a project called Name the Plow.

The Winning Names have been chosen and the plows all have their names.

Winning classes also received a nice cream party.

Oh, hey, that's awesome.

Now, how cool would it be?

You're driving down during a snow storm or after when they're plowing out.

And you can see, you know, which one is it?

Oh, can we receive?

I'm guessing they're going to put the name on the side there and say,

hey, it's the one we did or whatever, but that's really neat.

That's a good idea.

There's some great names there.

Great job by all those kids and those teachers.

Yeah.

And everybody coming up with this one, a shout out to everybody that was a part of this.

Mayor Wies and everybody else.

Nice work.

Super fun.

Yeah, that's a really cool idea.

That was a really fun one.

Well, take a break.

We'll come back and do some salad, get into some fun.

Yeah.

On the morning show here at WFHR, we are locally grown radio.

Welcome back, everyone.

Morning show here at WFHR.

Locally grown radio.

Seth and James here with you.

And now my favorite Christmas song.

Little Run DMC for you.

Oh, this is your favorite one?

Christmas in Holland.

Oh, man.

It's a kid.

Oh, I loved this.

Good stuff.

There was nothing like this on the radio.

Had my adidas.

I had my first pair of adidas around this time of year.

Oh, and I would grow on to have like a billion pairs.

But back then, it was hip to not have your laces in the adidas.

I remember that.

That lasted for me a half a day.

A half a day.

As soon as I had the run in those things,

it's like, nope.

Fall.

I learned real quick.

I care less about fashion and more about getting away.

Yeah.

Safety.

Real quick.

Real quick.

It's the middle of December.

And some people's work productivity could be slipping.

Maybe it's year in exhaustion.

Maybe it's the distraction of the holidays.

Maybe it's seasonal depression.

Well, it doesn't just affect human workers.

Some people have noticed that ChatGPT has been getting lazier recently.

It's returning simpler answers.

And it is refusing to do some tasks.

And they're wondering if AI can be hit with seasonal depression.

Well, that isn't the case, probably.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT,

says that they are aware things are a bit off.

They say, quote, we've heard all your feedback about getting lazier.

We haven't updated the model since November 11th.

And this certainly isn't intentional.

Model behavior can be unpredictable.

And we're looking into fixing it.

They added that it isn't, quote, broken.

Models can evolve and may need to recalibrate.

Which is understandable.

Yeah.

Well, something to take away here.

It's not going to fix itself.

So not AI, really.

But they still have to fix the problem.

Humans are still fixing it.

So yeah.

In these Isaac Amnoff, you know, kind of far-fetched things

that some people throw out there about AI and all this stuff.

It usually just sit back and kind of laugh at it.

But something like this actually got me thinking a little bit.

Okay.

Because I love the idea of, we always imagine AI taking,

not only taking over, but doing our lives,

living our lives and all these things.

I don't know what it is.

I don't find anything funny about depression.

I grew up in a very, you know, with my mother dealing with manic depression.

I don't take any of this stuff lightly.

But there is something about a depressed robot that is hilarious to me.

And I do not know why and I don't feel right saying it.

But I'm going to be honest.

A robot man.

Hey, we got work to do here, man.

No, cannot.

Too blue.

Too blue.

What are you talking about?

Too blue.

Oh my gosh.

I know where I come from.

I wish you read it.

Okay.

This is going to be a little bit of a deep cut, though.

You read Bartleby the Scrivener from the Herman Melville.

Nice.

I prefer not to.

Yes, yes, yes.

I love the idea of people actually thinking this.

Yeah, that's what.

Well, we should check on chat GPT.

Sad.

Sounds so sad.

What's going on?

Hey, how you doing, man?

You're feeling down about trying to take over humanity?

Is that got you down?

So what has happened?

What's happened when people venture that?

Are you okay to chat GPT?

You see what happens?

I may robot.

I have no feeling.

I have no feeling.

I don't know what depression is.

I don't know about that.

We loved it.

Okay.

Humans, we do it all the time.

We personify everything.

We have to make a human like in order to, for whatever reason, we have this need, this drive to do it.

It goes back to how, when we see faces and things with our faces.

I think those connections are brain doing these things.

This sink is a good example of the two eyes and the nose.

The faucet and the nose and all that stuff.

I think we do that in a lot in life.

We do this with animals all the time.

We put human feelings on animals constantly.

Animals are not having these feelings usually.

No.

It's certainly important to note that animals can feel depressed in some of these other things.

But the idea that an animal could be jealous.

They can be a little jealous.

There are certain things that animals don't necessarily do like humans.

Right.

Exactly.

Let's take a call from one of the best listeners in the radio.

Good morning.

What's on your mind?

Oh, we lost them.

Oh, we lost them.

Call back.

424-2600-715-424-2600.

Love to hear from you.

Yeah.

And there's no joke about seasonal depression.

No, not at all.

But if you do have a depressed robot, please call 1-100-nums.

We should come up with a number for that.

Yeah.

We have these world good stories that we don't have a chance to always get into.

If we have time, I want to.

First, let's take a call.

What's on your mind?

Hi.

I think you like depressed robot of Marvin the robot.

Oh, yes.

Yes.

Oh, I forgot about that.

Yes.

That's where it comes from.

I bet.

Oh, I'm sure that's where it comes from.

Oh, that's great.

Great reference.

Thank you for that.

Of course.

A brain in the size of a planet.

And they asked me to take out the trash.

So good.

So good.

Thank you, sir.

Have a great day.

You did a good one.

Oh, that was good.

Oh, that was good.

That was good.

I wouldn't.

I took me all day to think of that.

That was good.

That was good.

I'm sure that's where that comes from.

Yeah.

Great character, by the way.

Great character of voice actor, too.

Doing that work.

Let's look at some of these world good stories of the day.

Like a tunnel that was under construction

in northern India collapsed during a landslide this month.

And 41 construction workers were trapped.

What about that?

Yeah.

After 17 days in a massive risk of effort,

all 41 made it out alive.

Yeah.

Excellent.

Back when we were kids, this story would have been all over.

I don't feel like hardly anybody really was covering that one.

It was covered a little bit.

And I think part, this is kind of the sad thing about it,

is that they were able to have food and water put into them.

So they weren't going to starve.

And they weren't going to run out of water.

And that's maybe one of the reasons they didn't cover it as much.

Yeah.

Which is sad.

Which is very sad.

But I'm very happy to see that everyone is good and happy and out.

And that's awesome.

Yeah.

A homeless shelter in Portland, Oregon is auctioning off a pair

of very expensive air Jordans.

Someone left in the donation bin.

Ooh.

Apparently on purpose.

It's a golden pair of Air Jordan 3 sneakers based on those shoes,

Spike Lee Commission, to wear the 2019 Oscars.

Wow.

The designer confirmed they're the real deal

and gave them a new custom box to put them in.

Wow.

They are valued at over 10 grand.

10 G's.

But could sell up to 20 grand.

The auction ends December 18th.

How about that?

I mean, like this person probably could have like left 10 grand in the box.

And that'd be great.

That'd be a story we'd be talking about.

This is a much cooler idea if you can do it.

Yeah.

Just because you know that you can get more in an auction.

And then you throw out there, hey, this is for a nonprofit.

This is for a homeless shelter.

So you're going to get other people what?

Exactly.

Because you put a story like this out there.

People are going to be like, hey, let me, you know, contribute.

Let me do this.

So that's your right.

It's an excellent idea.

I feel we really say, silly saying this out loud.

But what am I dream since I was a little kid?

I think we all heard the stories of that person that donates a $10,000 anonymously

anonymously to this thing or something.

I always thought as a little kid that be one of the coolest things you could do as an adult.

That would be so cool.

With you, man.

I love these kind of stories.

I cannot get enough of them.

I would just keep them coming.

Love them, love them.

A dog near Toronto was going viral after he finally got to hang out with his girlfriend for the first time.

He's a husky named Levi who had taken a liking to a dog named Ellie.

He saw on walks.

They'd only hung out through chain link fence until now.

His owner says it went great.

She definitely sees a second date in the future.

Oh, that's funny.

That's good.

Speaking of personification.

Yes, you're absolutely.

Absolutely.

I love the idea of they're like going through the fence like, oh, I can't do it.

You're so right.

There's a movie in there somewhere.

There, yeah.

Disney, get on that.

Yeah.

We are going to take a break.

We are going to come back and have some fun on the morning show right here at Omelissa, you cover it.

WFHR, Wisconsin Rapids, 1320 AM, and W248DE, broadcasting at 97.5 FM.
