Hour 2: December is here! Yay?

Mornings with WFHR · Fri Dec 1, 2023

Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off

with us right here at WFHR. We are locally grown radio. It is 905 on the clock. Got your

host, James J. I am joined by your head of production, Mr. Seth Havagger. Good morning,

all. We hope you all are having a great day out there. Thanks so much for joining us,

everybody. Do you want to get a quick reminder out there to everybody? Let me double check.

Yeah, phone lines are still down, everyone. We do apologize for that. We are working on it.

We have our friends over at Solaris working hard on it as well. Appreciate the team over there

working on it for us. And if something changes between now and the 10 o'clock hour, we will

open up the phone lines. We'll try to get our star the day in and get you some free callvers

and all that. Yes, indeed. Got good things on the way. We're getting to. We got four things

to look forward to in December. Very cool. It's coming up in just a little bit.

Christmas. Yeah, right, right. Hanukkah. Yeah, I mean, come on. Good stuff coming up. But we'll

get a little more in the details in that just a little bit. We kick off with entertainment news.

And actually kind of interesting. Today, of course, would have been Richard Pryor's birthday.

He passed away in 2005. And this came up recently in an interview with Rich Eddie Murphy.

When Richard Pryor passed away, it left a hole in Eddie Murphy's wallet. What? No,

left a hole in his heart, of course. Yes. I don't know as much as I enjoy Richard Pryor and

loved Richard Pryor growing up. And him and Carlin were my guys. Those are my favorite comedians.

I don't know anybody outside of family members that loved Richard Pryor the way Eddie Murphy did.

Would there be an Eddie Murphy without Richard Pryor? I doubt it. At least not the one we knew.

He would tell you no. Yeah, he would tell you no. And I'm 99% sure he has said that in interviews

that so much of him came from Richard. And certainly others, Dick Gregory and some guys like that.

But it's Richard Pryor. He was the rock star. He was the rock star of Stan of Comedy back then.

But Eddie was building. And Eddie was growing his career and getting bigger and bigger. There was a

time when you can make the argument. Eddie made the biggest star in America. Big box office guy.

Yeah. And it was around that time when Eddie released an album of music called How Could It Be?

1985. I remember that. Oh, if you were alive at that time, you can't forget. I want to party

over town party. Oh, man, that was an embarrassing song. It was. You can't go out there,

like tougher than leather. Your stand-up performances. You go out there like a rock star.

You got the leather on. You got the music plan. You might as well be like Ali coming to the ring.

You know, like it felt like that when Eddie Murphy was going to hit the stage. But your lead

song, your big hit is party. You got a voice like that. I love Eddie Murphy. Love Eddie Murphy.

That song, though, sometimes those, you know, at least that, it reminds you're human.

You know, let us throw it out there. Bruce Willis, all those guys who tried to make albums.

Carl Lewis. Like, I mean, it's nice. It's almost nice in some ways to see the incredible,

like, almost geniuses, if not geniuses, at the craft that they do. And then like, these

one things that nope, they can't do that. They can't, they can do a lot of things, but they

can't do that one thing. My favorite still, Mr. T. Yeah. The one for kids to be off drugs.

That was, that's a good one. I think I've actually played that on set face of the music.

I think I've done. I think arguably my favorite example of this of one of the most, you know,

ultra-ly talented human beings we'll ever see. Not being talented is Carl Lewis. Not just with

the singing in the national anthem. It's the first pitch. It's not Lewis throwing that first pit.

Carl Lewis is a kid. I don't know if I've seen him or well-rounded athletes. As far as his

track and the, you know, what he was able to accomplish on the track and field. And then,

and then I know all these other competitions he did. And then you see him throw a first pitch.

Can't throw. Can't throw a baseball, though. No. I've seen a few, a few people like that that

kind of surprised me. I was at the All-Star Game in 2002. And then we, they did, of course,

the celebrity softball game. Yeah. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Can't throw a big baseball.

It was like, oh my god. He really doesn't know what he's doing out there.

A master at turning left. Yes. A master at turning left. But, but, but, but.

Sorry. Can't throw the fastball. No. So we go back to Eddie and Richard who were great friends.

And when Eddie told Richard, he was planning to do this album. Richard said there was no way

Eddie could make an entire album of just music and no comedy. He even bet Eddie a hundred K

that it wouldn't happen. So when Eddie did release the album, he wrote this, he wrote this inside

of it to Richard prior my idol with whom I have a $100,000 bet. No. Well, I didn't forget.

Some words that Eddie would use. And then I didn't forget. Of course, Richard passed away in 2005.

He never did pay him. But Eddie brought this up on the Jimmy Kimmel live show and everything.

And he's actually very fond of this memory. It sounds like he's thankful. Richard didn't pay

him because the memory is he remembers it more better than it's a better memory that way.

Right. Right. That's a great way to remember one of the greats. Yeah. One of the greatest of

comedy. Exactly. I love that. I love that story. Emily Cloud and her husband owned the vintage

rose wedding venue in Boise, Idaho. And last November, Emily posted a TikTok offering the venue for

free to anyone willing to give her Taylor Swift tickets. Whoa. Okay. She claims it was quote 100%

of joke, but somebody took her up on it. Oh no. Jennifer Bowen and her husband Mike were married

advantage rose on October 8th after giving Emily three of their six tickets. Wow. Jennifer

says quote each ticket was $300. So we spent about 900 on a $4,500 wedding venue essentially.

That's a good deal. I take that deal. Oh, yeah. Before the wedding, Jennifer and Emily sat

side by side at the Taylor Swift show. Oh, Tom. See, that's cool. You get to do that too. So

I, uh, I didn't, I was, I was back and forth. Should I use this in our good stories of the day?

Oh, okay. And I really wasn't sure. And I'm still not sure.

I read that story and that just, I don't know. I'm a full-ish romantic man. That warms my heart.

That works pretty good. I like that. That's a true win-win situation for everybody. Exactly.

Of course, nobody wins more than Taylor Swift. Well, she wins it all. Yeah. She wins everything.

Yeah. She always wins. She always wins. Um, that's a cool story. I think that's a, uh,

a nice little story. Yeah. And you work, not kidding, man. I thought of that right away,

like what a deal. Of course. Yeah. That's a sweet deal. That's a nice deal.

Now we're going to take a look at what's new on your, uh, I was going to say your CD player.

Wow. I'm old. He's stuck in the 90s, man. I let me tell you about these things. They've got CDs.

Uh, new music that you could download or or telepathy, you know, do wait. I gotta realize something.

We've gotten to the point where we have to explain what CD players are, but not record players anymore.

We've jumped. That's weird. We've jumped over that. That's weird. Welcome to 2023, everybody. Yeah.

You know, say goodbye to it because it's almost gone. That's true. Uh, new music. What's new on your

big screen, new one, your small screen, we'll get into right now. Um, new music from Wiz Khalif

decisions. This is his third mixtape of the year. Uh, he's letting out. Uh, whether you like him or

not three albums in a year, that's impressive. It's impressive. A Philly special Christmas, uh,

a Philly special Christmas special. What the what, man? You got to put special in there twice.

This is the second Christmas album from the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelsey, Lance Johnson,

and a bunch got on there. Of course, uh, they got to do wet on there as well. The album raises

money for local Philadelphia charities. So, uh, honestly, I wouldn't mention it if it wasn't for

that last part. Otherwise, it's like, we know we have seen football players. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Performance. Yeah. Um, it's not to be, to be honest, nobody more of a bigger culprit. And this

may be my team's fault because of the Super Bowl shuffle. Yeah. Maybe I, we got to own that one

as bare fans. You do have to own that one. Oh, man. I've got to say, although there is a Kelsey

and a swift on that album. So up for the Eagles. That's true. Uh, and this is amazing. I owe

from Peter Gabriel. This is his 10th album. What? He, oh, I don't know. He was working on a new one.

I didn't either. Uh, it's his first full length of new original material in over 21 years. Yes.

Oh, my goodness. I, uh, up, I think was his last one. I think it was. I'm not sure.

I think it was over all original material. Yes. I think you are correct. That's pretty cool.

Like even if there's, if I listen to it and I don't really dig anything on it, I'm going to

check it out. Yeah. He's a singular artist. So if he's got, he waited until he had something to say,

I think, and then he released it. And I'm going to listen because I think it'll be cool. Quite,

uh, quite, you know, I mean, own the eighties almost. Yes, he did. Uh, looking at what's new

on your small screen tonight on Amazon candy cane lane, a Christmas comedy starring Eddie Murphy,

who makes a deal with an evil elf to help him win a holiday decorating contest without realizing

what it could cost. Okay. Uh, this is the Eddie Murphy again. Absolutely. He's been in a little bit

semi-retirement, but you know, uh, Eddie talked about this a little bit. Him and actually Adam

Sandler are friends. Uh, and not like famous friends, but they're pretty good friends and everything,

old SNL, alums and all that. Sure. And Eddie reached out to Adam years back when he saw

Sandler's career kind of going dipping and then I'll sudden pick up and it picked up when he made

the deal with Netflix. Right. Remember that. Uh, and Eddie has done a similar thing with Amazon,

where, you know, the, um, coming to America's sequel that they did. Well, that's right. Yeah.

Okay. And now this movie, and I think they've got another one in the works. Um, it's just,

this is the new game. It's the new is old. Back in the day, uh, if you were Humphrey Bogart,

you were Carrie Grant or something like that, you knew you made it when you got a five-picture deal

with MGM or Paramount or some good contract, right? Yeah. Yeah. So you signed on with those big deals

and you were set. Yeah. You were set, man. That was that that was when you knew you made it and you

were not just the, not just the star. You were a big. You were, you were huge. Yeah. You were,

it's someone who could open a movie, right? The modern version of that is signing with the streaming

service. Yeah. And making a long-term contract. Yeah. Making a package deal. We're going to make

three projects together, etc. Exactly. Exactly. Uh, uh, stand-up comedians are doing the same thing

when Netflix, especially, uh, like, wait a minute, I could tour all year, you know, three hundred

and five, fifty days a year and never see my family and all that. Or I could just do a Netflix

special signing. Yeah. Exactly. And make it is probably more just by doing that one special. Yeah.

It's, it's, it's fascinating how so many things they adapt, they change. This is the new way

of doing it. This is the new way. And it just, it's the same old as the new old. Yeah. Right. Same

the old as the new. Mm-hmm. It's not that different. They just changed the words or a couple of

little logistics here and there. And it's no different than what it used to be. Friday on Disney

Plus, the streaming premiere of the fifth Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,

people are finally going to see it. I was going to say nobody saw that in the movie theaters.

Man, Disney has had a lot of bombs this year. They have. And this was one of the bigger ones we

kind of forgot about because they've had so many. Right. And, and, and now they've been, I mean,

recently they were lucky they weren't Napoleon. Yeah. Speaking of big, but that kind of took the

cake this year at the end of the year. So this has a shelf life. This can only last for so long,

whether it's Apple Plus or Disney or Amazon or MGM or any at Paramount, any, any, any production

company. Mm-hmm. They have done this model of streaming and of making movies, not just streaming,

but also movies, you know, straight to the theater movies. Right. Where I'm going to, I'm going to

throw money at the wall and hope that it lands. Mm-hmm. And they do it, they do it, they do it, and

nothing, nothing, nothing. And finally, they're, they're, they're, they're hitting, they're hitting a

wall with this where their, you know, shareholders are finally saying, hey, this is enough is enough.

You can make a movie for a hundred bucks. You know, do it. They're figuring out, they're trying to

figure out ways to counter that. And part of that is countering actor salaries. Mm-hmm.

What they did. I'm okay with. Yeah. What they didn't realize, what they did not realize when

they everyone jumped into the streaming game is that they, a lot of their revenue came from sales

of DVDs and blue rays for home video use. And when you start putting everything on streaming,

that revenue is gone. That revenue is dries up. And it's like, wait a minute. Where'd all that money

go? Well, guess what? You put it on a streaming service, which has eliminated them. You can only get

so many subscribers. There's only so many people out of the planet. Yeah. So if there's going to be

a limit to what you can do. And then you, you really shoot yourself in the foot with this when you,

you cut off half of your, you know, you cut off your notices by your face. Exactly. You, um,

I, I, I, I destroyed three body parts with that frame. You shoot yourself in the foot.

Very violent metaphor there. Yeah. Really, really, really, really dark there. I don't know why.

Are you going to watch it? I haven't seen this one. I, I, I, I didn't see the cut, the other one,

though, the, the Crystal Skull War. The Crystal Skull one. I always meant to. I never got a

chance to see it. And then by the time I was going to see it, everybody told me not to.

Well, and it was, you know, if they had done something different, it was, it was old hat. Yeah.

It was old, uh, any hat, I guess you'd say, but, but I, I probably will see it, you know, uh,

just to, to check it out and see what they did with it. But, uh, in the Go Montoya and Indiana Jones,

those were the guys that I'd run around the house pretending to be and drive my dad crazy when

I was a kid. I love this character. I got to, I think I'm going to see this just out in the

nostalgia. Right. But I don't know if it's going to be any good or not. Yeah. Who knows?

I'm Peacock, uh, the stream of premiere of Extracist the Believer, um, and, uh, Netflix

made December a drama starring Natalie Portman. And, uh, as actress studying Julie and a more.

Ooh, um, that's pretty interesting. Those are two, uh, very talented ladies. Yeah. That might

be interesting. Yeah. I absolutely love Natalie Portman. Got to love her. Uh, Friday, uh,

today on History Channel, the series premiere of the unbelievable with Dan Ackroyd.

I might check that out. That's pretty cool. I love Dan Ackroyd. Um, but he, he's a little

credulous. Yeah. Yeah. I know he's done it his whole career. Yeah. But, but yeah. Yeah. Um, you don't

do basomatic, uh, and not be that guy. Not be that guy. And if you get that reference, thank you.

Nice. Um, Saturday on Disney Plus, this is huge. Doctor Who, while Blue Yonder, the second of

three specials where the legend David Tenets 14th, doctors reunited with Donna Noble to save the

universe with a, from a new villain, Neil Patrick Harris. Yeah. I've seen the trailer for that.

And it looks pretty darn, looks pretty darn good. I would say, especially if you know nothing about

Doctor Who, this is a great place to enter because, yeah, I mean, to be fair, the Doctor Who is,

is one of those shows where you can jump in and multiple areas, you know, when they have a new

doctor or something like that. But this is a great time to, yeah, to check it out because David

Tenet by far, one of the best doctors that they've ever had. So, uh, David Tenets in my top 50

favorite actors. Uh, I've seen everything he does. I love his work. And I will say that I think

he was the best doctor. Um, I, I, I say this, not just me saying it, but, uh, my daughter,

my oldest daughter, Bria, uh, I, I got into Doctor Who as a kid and coming up here and watching

on public access. They play a lot of the old English shows of, um, you know, uh, the Perot Mysteries

and it things like the, uh, the Britcoms and that stuff, yeah, and stuff. And I'd, I'd eat those

up red dwarf, you know, I'd watch all of those. Faulty towers. Uh, Faulty towers. Yes. Yes. I'd

watch Faulty towers and that stuff. Um, and I'd start watch the old Doctor Who, the curly hair guy

with the, the candy cane scarf. Tom Baker, I believe. That was Tom Baker. Yeah.

So I just thought it was a cool show then. Mm hmm. And then when, uh, I, I, when it came back

around, I did see the David Tennant season. And I'm actually currently rewatching that a bit.

Lauren, I, uh, watching everything and I kind of gotten back into it. And it's been cool.

But she said this, and I don't know where she stopped watching, but I, I brought this up with Bria,

and I'm talking to her and she, because she, I know she's a big Doctor Who fan. She's got Tartus

is all around the house and stuff. And we were talking about it. And I was, I was, I was telling her,

I'm like, are you excited about the new Doctor? They've got a whole new person and all this and

everything. She's like, yeah, it's really cool. I haven't watched since David Tennant. She's

not watching after date. She, she, she did not want to see the Doctor regenerate. Oh, so she

hasn't watched since, which is, uh, to, to, to, to be get Matt Smith, who was the one who came

after him. He did a very good job too. Matt is a very, Matt Smith is a very good actor. So he,

he did a very, but I can understand though, because there's a, David Tennant has a, has a charm.

He's a very charming actor, the way he does things. Um, and, and so you're, you're so right.

And I can understand why some people were like, no, I don't want to leave him. If you're looking

for a, a silly kind of fun show, uh, that doesn't take it to self too seriously. Uh, you're looking

to watch and you have an Amazon prime account, the, the show Good Olman's based on the Neil Gaiman

book. Uh, I love the book. And yes, you get, uh, I'm not going to lie to you. It's not the greatest

show ever. It's not the greatest or anything, but it's well written. And you have, uh, you have,

I'm not just David Tennant, but Michael Shea. Yes. Who does, again, brilliant, such a good actor.

Oh my gosh. And, and they're both so good together. Their chemistry is amazing. They're all

friends. They've worked on, uh, the, uh, the old crowned Vic and on, on many London theater stages

and everything. And you get to see the really work of the, oh my god. I love it. Like I, that alone,

I don't care. Literally, they're reading a phone book and I'm watching it. Like, oh, I can't

wait until they get to the elves. Okay. You know, there's a, I cannot, I'll tell you how awesome

that is. I've seen those two together. And on SNL this weekend, Senate Live, Emma Stone hosting,

Noah Khan is going to be a musical guest. Emma Stone is great. She, she is, is someone who takes,

who is, who's not taking herself seriously ever. Yeah, especially she's a big star. You know,

she does all these movies and she's like just, yeah, whatever. Be sure, whatever. Yeah. Big fan of

her. Yeah. Uh, and of course on Sunday night football this weekend, I don't have to tell this

audience. The Green Bay Packers are hosting, Patrick Mahomes in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hmm. Going to be a, that's going to be an interesting game. Yeah. That is going to be an

interesting game. All right. Uh, it'll be on NBC starting around seven this Sunday. And new

in theaters, not a whole lot out there for you. A lot of stuff in limited release. Um,

God's Illumine is one in the limited release rated PG 13 kind of an extension of those movies.

It's Illumine is one. Uh, yeah, I don't know. Okay. Uh, Renaissance, a film by Beyoncé, it highlights

the making of Beyoncé's Renaissance album. Uh, another one of these kind of music, kind of movie

that are coming up. It also has appearances from Diana Ross, Megan the stallion and Kendrick Lamar.

Wow. Um, Jay Z is going to be in a tour. I'm just assuming I'm sure. Right. And I'm a little

interested in this one. Silent night. Uh, it's, um, now this is, we've seen this a lot. We just

saw with the Thanksgiving horror movie and everything. One of the new tropes of Ha studio's is taking

a well-loved holiday and making a spin on it where it's either a, uh, a horror movie. Yeah.

That's the truth. That's the thing right now is making it into a horror movie. New yet old. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. It's been doing it since the 70s. Yeah. So basically this is an action movie taking

place during Christmas. Um, you know, a bit of a, a little bit of a diehard kind of thing. Only

leaning more into the Christmas part. Was it written by Shane Black? Right. Yeah. Yeah. Who's

every single movie takes place during Christmas for some reason. I don't know why. Yeah. But I,

I gotta say there is a couple of things that stand out to me a little different about this one.

First, it is directed by one of the greatest, if not the greatest action movie director of all time,

John Wu. Whoa. Um, John Wu signing. John Wu also, uh, came up with this story, I believe.

It's Silent Night. It is about a guy who loses his family in his voice. Oh, Silent Night. Silent

Night. I get it. And it stars Joel Kiniman. Joel Kiniman is not a household name, but he

by all rights, if it was a more just acting world, he would be. He is incredible.

Seen him in suicide squad, seen him in a couple of other movies. Maybe this will be the one

that pushes him over. I kind of hope it is. Just because he's just one of those actors that I

root for that he's a good guy. You see him in interviews. You got to like him. And he's so dang

talented. Um, that I, I'm definitely going to see this. I hope it's any good. I have no idea

if it's going to be any good. And I would not go into it with too high of expectations. No,

no, no. But you know, it looks like a, if it does well, boy, get ready for more of that. Yeah.

Get ready for more of that. They had a couple last year. Uh, David, uh, David, uh, the,

the, the, the, the, the, the Harbour. Yeah. He was in a violent santa or something. Whatever

that was called. Yeah. Everything. So we'll see, we'll see how these do and, you know,

there could be more ahead. Uh, we got more ahead. We're going to get, um, actually, we're

going to go ahead and, uh, jump right to, um, Melissa's, yeah, our, our, our state and local news.

We'll get to that. There it is. All right. We're going to get to that for you right now.

And we will come back and have some fun. We got the four things to look forward to in December,

sports, movies, uh, a bunch of other fun stuff. Holidays. We'll be talking about,

Seth and James will be talking about that when we come back on the morning show here at WFHR.

Lights, camera, action. It is time to make somebody a star of the day with our great friends

from the Wisconsin Rapids callers. What Seth and I are about to do is play a famous TV theme song.

You call up 424, 2600. Get the answer right and boom. Just like that. You went a family pack of

four from our Wisconsin Rapids callers. Yes, indeed. That is two kids meals. That is two adult meals.

That is free callers, baby. There's one thing better than callers. What's that? Free callers.

Free callers. That's it. Woo. End of list. So as long as you haven't won anything in 30 days,

feel free to call up 715-424-2600. Our phone lines are up and running. We say thank you to our

engineer Chuck, our GM Chuck, and of course our friends at Slayer is getting that up and going.

Excellent. I know it's a little bit of a different time and everything, but you can still call up.

Have some fun with this one. 715-424-2600. Call up. Let us know what TV theme song this is from.

But the senator, while he's assisting, he was not intoxicated. Could not explain his nudity.

Okay, we'll stop it right there. See if we have ourselves a winner. Good morning. What's your answer?

WKRP and Cincinnati. Yeah. Nicely done. You know that one right away, sir?

Not right away. No, I got a confuse at the beginning. Yeah, there you go. Yeah.

I wanted to play the original intro, the original opening for it and everything.

I believe that after a couple of years, they had to change it because you, sir,

we're not the only one confused by it. There were other people that were confused by it.

And I think they had to edit that out. They just cut it and went right into the theme.

Yeah, yeah. But that's kind of interesting that they actually they tricked people in some weird way

or whatever. Legendary show. And of course, us doing a radio show. This is probably the third time

we have used that. But it's been a couple of years. Been a while. Yeah, sir, what's your first name?

Ed. Ed, thank you so much for calling and playing along Ed. What town are you calling from?

Rapid. All right. Got ourselves a rapids winner. Ed, thank you so much for listening,

playing along. We appreciate you. Hang on a line and get some information from you off air.

Congratulations. You're our star of the day. Thank you. Thank you. Ed, appreciate that. Yeah,

I got I got to play a little bit more of this here a little bit.

Is this I got to say this is probably top 10 theme songs of all time. It's it's it's perfect.

And a weird thing about this set that was thinking about it, I you know, trends come and go with

flows and everything. Entertainment's no different. But I don't I don't believe we're ever going back

to theme songs. Unless unless someone makes a real point of doing it, you know, and and you know,

I think you would mention this, you know, a little while ago, they stopped doing theme songs,

which doesn't make any sense because that's like airtime. You don't have to fill right because

if you have a nice theme, you could just, you know, give you a little time. You don't have to

try to right up to the very top of the hour. But maybe people don't care about that anymore.

Well, I don't have to do like 20 some episodes of season, right? Yeah, I'm glad you brought that

up though, because I know I'm a crazy person and I know more than anybody probably should about

this stuff. But back in the day, especially in the 50s and the 60s, like you couldn't do a show

without a two-minute theme song, right? Because they counted that in. Okay, so we've got two minutes

there. We've got five minutes commercial break. So we have to have a 22-minute episode. And that's

where the 22-minute episode comes from is is advertisers in theme song and getting that perfect sweet

spot of that. We can catch, we can get viewers for this long kind of thing. Now they're worried about

losing people in the theme song. So there's right to the show. We got to go right to the thing.

You know, you get to theme songs like Lost, and it's like a, a hero fan or whatever.

It has changed quite a bit. It has changed quite a bit. We are going to talk to Ed. We'll come back

and have some more fun. But be listening every Friday, usually before 9 o'clock. And we will make

somebody a new star of the day with our friends from the Wisconsin Rapids callers. Get on over to

the Wisconsin Rapids callers. Right now, get some callers in your life. We'll be back with more fun

on WFHR's Morning Show. Welcome back, everybody. Morning Show at WFHR.

I really can't stay. Maybe it's cold outside. I've got to go away. Maybe it's cold outside.

Evening has been hoping that you'd drive it. So very nice. I'll hold your hands like just like

she and him. She and him. She and him. Great band. Great band.

Zoey, De Chanel. And the other guy. I feel so bad. I feel horrible every time it comes up

because I know I'm going to mention Zoey and I can never remember his name. It's like M-something.

Yeah, I can't remember what's up. I know he's very good. He's, I mean, they're equal parts of

that band, but he is an integral part of that band. He's pretty good. And I love the swapping

of the gender roles in that one where she's the one that's trying to convince him to stay.

Absolutely. We got to get into four things to look forward to in December. But first,

let's take a call. Good morning. What's on your mind? Good morning, gentlemen.

Hey, guys, we're talking earlier about the candy canes. I wanted to call in at that time,

but obviously here is a little issue of the phone. Yeah.

The possum price tastes like chicken. Yeah, you got to think, right? You got to think.

You got to taste like chicken. Or does chicken taste like possum?

Oh, we got to do something. We got to figure this out.

Because you were saying with a novelty thing, I was kind of starting to think back, you know,

if jelly belly started to get it to the axe here on the candy canes, you know,

because jelly can have all those different flavors of jelly beans, you know,

something like the 30 feet one or something like that. Yeah, yeah. It's great ones. Yeah.

Now, let's think about that. Yeah, I mean, traditional ones, but I have to agree with you guys,

the starburst ones that I would like to see on my gravel. Is there any you've tried that you

didn't like? Because I've had, I've had a couple of run-ins with some ones that I didn't like.

I'm trying. I like the nerds. There was a nerds one. I think there was a nerds one. Yeah.

It was a little sour. I don't like the sour too much. Yeah. They got so many of them. There's

got to be some people aren't going to try in that light. Well, it's something I think the sour

patch ones, I think they came and came out with those two that were sour. I mean, I can handle

sour patch kids, but they have it at the candy game. It was a little bit much. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, I'm a traditional guy. I mean, you know, I like the peppermint ones, but yeah, I mean,

if you want to say probably one of the better ones is the starburst ones. Yeah.

Hey, save that voice. We're going to need you on Monday for playmakers, okay?

Get rid of it. I'll try. I appreciate that. I appreciate that. Depends on how the Packers do on Sunday night,

okay? You might have something to do with it. Oh, it's good talking to you, sir. You have a great

week out. All right. You guys have a good one too, too. It's always good. Best listeners in

radio. I'll talk with you guys. Feel free to call up. Phone lines are open. 715-124-2600. I was just

thinking, you know, of those other like those weird flavored ones, you like the hot dog and the

bacon. So you could mix them together and make like a whole meal. You got the hot dog and the

pickle one together. See there you go. You got your relish, you know, with your hot dog.

You know, sorry, candy cane. You want the feeling of camping without the fire, you know,

without that clean up and all that. Maybe, maybe. Oh, maybe a smores flavored one. Maybe people

would like that one. I think between you and the caller, we have got a topic for Monday with

Melissa and I and you. We're going to get it to weird candy cane flavors and candy cane flavors.

Do some homework this weekend and look for some and I won't be alone. You guys out there,

feel free to do some homework. Yeah. Some weird candy cane flavors and see what you come up with.

Back in Jesus. We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll convene on Monday during the morning show.

I'll look forward to it. So we dive into things to look forward to in December. In sports,

college footballs, bowl games start December 16th. Already? Wow. Yeah. Lots of NFL and NHL

action this month as well. And then not even mentioning the conference championship games that are

going on starting today, starting this week. Yeah, going on this weekend. There is absolute chaos

that can happen in this bowl season. There is an opportunity for there to be no SEC team in the

final four. If Alabama beats Georgia, a lot of people are predicting that neither of those teams

are going to make it. I don't believe that. No. I'll believe it when I see it. But that's what a

lot of people are predicting is Florida state going to win it. Can they win and keep this running?

Washington. Can Washington beat Oregon? I mean, yeah, it's like, I'm fascinated by the pack 10

and Washington, Oregon and seeing one of those teams possibly being a national championship game.

Like that's incredible. Not happened in ages. Yeah. Plus those quarterbacks on both bow nicks,

Michael Penex. God, I love watching each other. It's black. I might be watching a future bear

quarterback. No, no, no, it's true. Join us Monday for a playmate. So looking forward to a lot of

the sports this month. Of course, in the movies, we just touched on Eddie Murphy's new

candy cane, candy cane lane hitting prime video today. Taylor Swift's heirs tour is available

on demand starting December 13th. Okay. That's going to probably be pretty big downloads,

probably. And the new Julia Roberts thriller leave the world behind lands on Netflix next Friday.

Oh, Julia Roberts getting back into the acting. Yeah. Wow. Cool. She looks magnificent.

Like that woman does not age. She has aged very gracefully. Yeah. And I believe that she has had

a little bit of work done, but not much. And certainly hasn't had any. I don't mean to sound

mean here, but you look at her and Meg Ryan. And you see it like who's had worked on who didn't

in the 80s. Yeah, exactly. A lot of the time. This isn't always the case. And I'm not I love

Meg Ryan. I'm not at all trying to talk bad about it, but she has been very honest about her

getting the work done and how she regrets it and how it has affected her as an older age.

Renee Zellweiger. Is it even better example of this? Yeah. Where it almost killed her career.

You know, for oh, she comes back as Julia, uh, uh, Julia Trial, I believe that the

she had a movie a couple of years ago. Yeah. The famous cook Julia. The cook,

Julia, yeah. And think she looks so much like her because of some of the surgery and stuff

that it really helped her. Interesting. Yeah. Um, I'm curious to see that one.

Uh, in actual theaters, Wonka with Timothy Shalume opens on the 15th Aquaman in the Lost Kingdom

arrives on the 22nd with a new animated film, a migration and two big ones on Christmas day

Ferrari, starring Adam Driver and the new musical adaptation of the color purple. Oh, yes. Yes,

I had I forgot about that one coming. I saw poster for it the other day and I was like, yeah, I

had curious. Wow. Interesting. Yeah. Definitely going to see it. Definitely going to see it. That's

for sure. On TV, the last six episodes of the Crown hit Netflix December 14th. We mentioned this.

The three new doctor who specials hit Disney plus this month. One tomorrow and one next Saturday

and then there's a Christmas special on the 25th, which is a tradition on doctor who it is.

The Christmas episode. Yeah. And there's lots of other holiday specials this month too. The

Great British baking show holidays. National Christmas tree lighting special on CBS December 15th.

Um, to go back to Netflix for a second, they are scared to death of losing you. So Netflix is

throwing everything at you in December, everything. They've got a ton of stuff on Netflix and Hulu

and all your streaming services. Disney plus is even bigger. Disney plus has got even more than

those two combined. Yeah. They're hitting you with this year. It's really remarkable. Yeah.

Every one of these streaming services are scared out of their minds at looking at the final

numbers at the end of the year. Yeah. And they're trying to tell their shareholders with these

December numbers. Hey, look, we're not so it's not as bad as you think. So they are begging for you to

stream right now. They are begging you to do it. I, uh, I, I just don't, I just don't see how

it's going to be sustainable. I mean, they could get, they could get as much as they want and

then going to change it. No, it's not, it's not going to change it there. There's still, you're

still going to be stuck with the same numbers when you're looking at not being in the black. And

soon they're going to be, uh, charging 30 bucks a month. And, and you're going to see so many

people, uh, instead of cutting the cord, cutting, cutting the tablet, cutting the, the, the,

invisible streaming number. Can I cut my Wi-Fi? Is that, is that, are you able to do that?

What I'm curious about from that though is what happens from there? Do people go back to cable

or do they just kind of say, you know what? I'm going to read a book. I'm going to figure out my

own way of doing this or something. You know, this is a topic we could go on for a long time

about, um, because just thinking about, you know, what, what, what's next? What happens next? Because

it sure certainly doesn't look like this is going to last. If you know, you got the next million

dollar ID. Yep. Uh, and finally, the holidays. The big ones, of course, Hanukkah and Christmas, Hanukkah

from the seventh to the fifteenth this year. Uh, and quants is starting on December 26th.

There's also National Cookie Day next Monday. Oh, National Cookie Day. Cookie, cookie, cookie.

National ice cream day is the thirteenth. Ugly sweater day is on the fifteenth. The first

official day of winter is December 21st. Of course. Festivus is the 23rd. Oh gosh. We're actually

going to talk a little bit about that on Monday. I've got somebody who's got an interesting promotion

going on with that. Oh boy. Um, and the 31st is New Year's Eve when we finally say so long to 2023

into 2024. Wow. I am, uh, I don't know. Am I alone on this one? I'm excited about 24. Like, I,

I'm looking forward to it. I feel like whether we, uh, we do it personally or we do it as a society,

we literally turn a page and there is almost even to the most cynical. There's a little bit of hope

and we need that right now. We do. It is so dang easy to be cynical. I spent the majority of my life

that way. I know what I'm talking about. Yeah. Um, so looking at, uh, the dark side of things,

looking at the negative, I think we are seeing more and more people hunting and, and looking for that

hardcore hope, right? That, and I'm not simple hope, not hallmark hope, not the easy stuff. I'm

talking about hope that takes work, hope that takes an initiative and when work, it's important

that we differentiate between hope and optimism. There's a difference between the two. You can

be hopeful without being optimistic. So I, I'm glad you used that phrasing and that's the way you

put it because yes, there is hope. There's always hope. And I think we need to, even at times when

it seems like it's pretty dark and dreary and whatever, it's always going to be there. So I

just remember that. Anybody can be like that. Anybody can be cynical because we don't know what's

going to happen. It's so much simpler. Once again, our mothers were right. Yeah. It takes more

muscles to frown than it does to smile. We don't know what's going to happen, everybody.

We don't know. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, we will take a break. We will come back with some good stuff

for you. A lot of local good things going on in the area we want to talk about on the morning

show here at WFHR, locally grown radio.

Welcome back to the morning show, everybody. Locally grown radio. Seth and James here with you.

Um, do have to cut that off a little early here because normally we would get into

uh, then write stories in this section. I am removing that today because we have some breaking

news. Former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor blazed trails as the first woman who sit on the Supreme

Court has passed away. Mm hmm. The court announced Friday morning. O'Connor 93 died due to

complications related to advanced dementia. O'Connor inspired generations of female attorneys,

including the five women who served with her nomination on the high court. They admired her path

making success in a field that had been dominated by men. Yeah. Over time she became known as a,

as a moderate conservative and often swing vote on hot button social issues. I would ask people

to put those things aside. Yeah. Your political feelings and beliefs and just look at the human being

and what she accomplished as a woman in the industry that there is, we use the term trailblazer and I

do this a lot too. We use it a lot in sports and a lot of these things. Right. Then there are the

actual people who literally blazed trails. Mm hmm. And whatever you think of Sandra Day O'Connor

and I know that she was divisive as a politician, whether you think push that aside. If you can't,

I can't talk to you. Like you got it. We got to be able to do this. Yeah. We have to be able to do

this as a society. Right. Be able to separate these things. Yeah. I separate these things and I look

at somebody who is the embodiment of female and power. And in many ways while you can make an

argument about that about some of the choices she made on the court. Of course. Yeah. Putting that aside.

Yeah. Right. She is the first. She's the first to sit on there. Yeah. You can't get the

big deal. You can't get the third without having the first. Exactly. And let alone at the time she

did this. If she was the first to do this in the 90s or in the arts, it would be remarkable.

I'd be saying all these things. Let alone when she did this. 1980s. Yeah. It's incredible. It's

incredible. So I think we tip our hat to an amazing human being, an amazing American.

And again, I'm not talking about her politically. I'm talking about what she did for women.

Yeah. Exactly. Who I don't think is asking too much to have some representation on the highest court

in the land. When you're 50% a little bit actually over 50% of the population. You think. You think.

You're right. I did want to touch on this. I found it very interesting as we just dive into a

little bit of nerd news. They call it. Nerd news. A study found migraines are a pain in the neck

literally. A lot of them are associated with overworked or inflamed neck muscles, which doctors

kind of knew already, but it's first time that they've proved it with MRIs. Oh, wow. I did not

know that. I have dealt with migraines since I was 12. And for the longest time, I thought that it

was my, that I had school. The oldest is in my back because I was diagnosed in sixth grade,

like so many of us. Right. Thankfully, my friend, our friends over at Stover Healthcare when I was

working there, I got services. And they push me, they push me to get an x-ray. I get an x-ray done.

They do one on my back and my neck. Well, turns out I don't have scoliosis. I have a slight curve,

but I don't have scoliosis. Right. What I do have is a degenerative disc in my neck that will not heal.

And that's where it stems from. Makes sense. Now, that's a little bit of an extreme. But even if you

just happen to be at your lab top all day for work or these kind of things, it can be a pain in the neck,

literally, or bending your head to talk and do a microphone. Oh, wait. Oh, my God. Not exactly. Yeah.

It's the, it's stuff to keep in mind and try to work on your posture, try to stretch your neck a

little bit more and keep that in mind. Hopefully, it will give you less migraines. That's funny.

When you say the word posture, all of a sudden, you want to sit up. I didn't, I did it too.

It's not just that. If I think about Stover, like I think about the chiropractor,

like I mean, it's like a dentist, like you brush your teeth before you go to the

desk. Yeah, right. I always set, I tried to sit better posture around it before I hear it.

It's not going to do anything. No, no, but I absolutely did. I hope it makes you feel that way.

We need, uh, we're going to get into some palate cleansers for you. And we kick it off with our

our final midday magazine of the week. And it's a good one coming in in part one at three o'clock,

representative Scott Krueg with Wisconsin State Assembly District 72 representative.

We missed Scott last month. Got to catch up with him about some November issues and some other

things I want to talk with him about. Yep. And in part two, what a perfect way to wrap up the week

Wisconsin's Rapids Community Theater, a preview of a candle in the window. They're a Christmas show.

They're holiday show, I should say. We'll talk with Phil, Chris, Ann, and Evelyn. Looking forward

to talking with them about this great show. It's going to be a lot of fun. Get your tickets and

find out more at WRCT.org WRCT.org. Yes, indeed. And just a quick look at our weekend line-up

set. Of course, we were talking with the great Tim Humboldt earlier. The Sunshine Pocus show is

brought to you by Tim every Sunday, Saturday at seven. You can catch this show at one on Sunday.

That's right. The re-broadcast. I'd be sure to catch that everybody and a big shot at the

Tim wishing you well, Tim. And thanks so much for joining us this morning. Terry talks nutrition

as eight. The legendary Lemrun runs that show with our great friends at Family Natural Foods.

Appreciate them. Uh, we normally over the back fence from 11 and new. No over the back fence this

weekend though. There is not starting at 10.30 today or tomorrow. Starting at 10.30, it's the

big interstate rivalry. That's right. UW versus Marquette. That's usually the, I believe that's

usually the last game before they start conference play, isn't it, of the year? So it's always a fun

game. A little little bragging rights for inside the state here, the two big programs. So that's

always going to be fun. Yeah, more on that in a moment, but be sure to catch a great college

basketball right here all season long. 10.30. Our pre-game kicks off on Saturday for Badgers

first Marquette. No, it's constant first Marquette. I love that game. Marquettes killing it this year.

They're having one heck of a year, yes. They are doing it. I want to take a look at Sunday really

quick at our lineup for Sundays. And of course, we feature Seth faces the music from six to eight.

You got a new theme this week. I do. It's been a while. So many things going on here. But

I just realized that I picked like a, like kind of a sad theme this week. It's about lonely,

about being lonely. But the good news is there's some really cool songs about being lonely. So

that's why I decided to choose it. Because some of my favorites are in there. So brother,

I could have set that playlist for you. You probably know that song list. I know. We got some,

some Jackie Wilson in there. We've got some Roy Orbison, of course, in there as well.

And we got lots of great stuff. So tune in from six to eight for Seth face of the music this week.

After that, we'll be directors cut the show that Seth and I tag team where we feature local great

artists. And we've been doing a little bit of a best of in celebration of the end of the year.

And our first year doing directors. Yeah, that's right. We have a great one that you can catch

right now at Civic Media.us where we featured a lot of the music guests that have joined us.

You did an amazing job putting that together. Thank you. I help a little bit and Seth does all the

real heavy lifting incredible stuff. So appreciate you on that. This next one that's going to premiere

Sunday is something that Seth and I are going to be working on as soon as I get that one midday

magazine. We're doing the same thing we do with music just with interviews. Yes, with some of the

great folks we've had to talk to this year. We have been so spoiled by being joined by so many

amazing human beings. We want to take some snippets from some of those best parts of those

conversations and put them together in a great kind of greatest hits montage. Yeah, sure.

What do we want to call it? Get that out there for you. So be listening for that

eight to nine on this Sunday on directors. Let's take a look at some of our great. Oh,

I want to look at the sports schedule real quick. Oh, yeah. Great stuff going on and it starts

tonight right here at WFHR with Scott's men's hockey hosting Ohio State. It doesn't matter what

sport they're playing. It's it's it's big stuff. Yeah, it's UW. It's Ohio State. It's at 630

today on WFHR. Be sure to check it out. And then on WIRI at 659, I pregame kicks off for River

King's hockey hosting the Steel County Blades. Wow. We got hockey on both stations tonight. You're

going to have to go between the two of them. Yeah. It's a park night. My dad and I are so excited.

Be sure to catch this. And if you can, everybody, get to the South of County Rec Center. Let's show

them on home ice advantages. Let's root for our Kings up and down the river. Sounds like the first

series, the first couple of games were really well attended. Let's keep it going. Yeah. Yeah.

Saturday right here at WFHR, we mentioned 1030 Wisconsin Badgers hosting Marquette.

You're going to be a big one a little bit later right here at WFHR at 730. We'll continue that

series between the Badgers hockey team in Ohio State. And on WIRI at 659, our pregame kicks off

for River King's hockey hosting the Steel County Blades. All kinds of hockey this weekend. My

goodness. And we're not done on Sunday at 1140 Wisconsin women's basketball hosting Butler.

Lady Badgers are killing it. Let's go ahead and roof them on on Sunday at 1140 right here at WFHR.

Okay. It's a sports going on. Yeah. All over the place. I love it. We got great things going on

there throughout our weekend here in this beautiful area. Seth, kick it off for us.

All right. We've got the seventh annual Christmas tree walk over at the Southwood County

Historical Museum. Our great friends over there. That's going to start this weekend.

December 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Man, that was close. That's semi. That was scary. That was

driving through this through this area. That's please stop doing that. I literally almost hit us.

Like that guy was so close to hitting us. Yes. Sorry. Very distracted. Yeah. Sorry about that.

That's okay. But anyway, squirrel. December 2nd, 3rd and 4th from 12 to 4.

They're going to be open this coming weekend. And then again, the next weekend,

December 8th from 5 to 8 and December 9th and 10th from 12 to 4 as well. This event is free

and welcome to all ages. Go check out some really cool decorated trees with our good friends

at the Southwood County Historical Museum. Yeah. Support the work they do over there.

1 to 5 over at the historic point bus. Enjoy holiday traditions, decorations of the past,

sample foods of historic period. Check it out when you go there. See if they can use some

volunteers and stuff too. Help them keep history alive over at the historic point bus.
