Hour 1: I take off the plastic first…

Mornings with WFHR · Fri Dec 1, 2023

Good morning, Wisconsin. Good morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off

with us right here at 97 5 FM 13 20 AM WF HR. We are locally grown radio. Got your

host James J here at 804 in the clock. I am joined by our head up production, Mr. Seth

Habhager. Good morning all. And of course, all of you. Thanks for being here, everybody.

We're going to get you ready for the weekend. I have some fun doing it. Got good things

lined up for you and on the way. We're going to get into, of course, in this hour,

Miss D's menu, birthday and anniversary club. After that, we're going to make you a star

of the day playing a famous TV theme song. All right. And I think it's got, we got an easy

one for you today. I'm going to be honest. Probably Seth and I wanted to play it. Yeah, exactly.

We wanted to play it. We're going to have some fun with that. And after that, be listening

between now and 10 o'clock, everybody for a great new promotion. We are doing with our

friends and quality foods, IGA. It's on the shelves at quality foods, IGA. This is, this

is a great one. We are going to tell you a hint to guide you to quality foods, IGA. And

then you can look around quality foods for the elf. Yes. What you'll do is our listeners

will take a photo of that elf on the shelf, post it to Facebook with the hashtag WR quality

foods, WR quality foods. And we will eventually collect all the names that are submitted. We'll

throw them in a hat and we'll draw a winner on the 21st. And they're going to, we'll send

them the store to pick up a wonderful holiday ham celebration basket. Nice. How awesome

is that? IGA keeps feeding everybody. They just keep getting you great food and great

prizes. Turkey's ham. We got it all, man. You know, the elf on the shelf thing is for kids

and stuff. I think this is a little bit more of a for adults. This is kind of cool. I like

it. Yeah. But I do encourage you to bring the kids along. Yeah. You know, to help

that you need spotters. You need people to help you look, man. You don't want to trust

your eyes. Let little eyes. They got better eyes. Let trust the look and they can see

lower. They're that's true. Yeah. You look high. They look low. Get everything covered.

And I want to give respect to Seth for coming up with the name here. I think I know you

don't think it's the great. I love it. Okay. Listen. I think it's fantastic. I know you

do. I'm still not sure. I'm not sure about it. Shelves. I'm the shelves. Oh, come on.

That's good. That's good. The shelves and food's IGA. Be listening between now and ten

o'clock. We're going to give you a hint. You take that hit and run with it. Run

nine quality foods. IGA and find that elf. Take a picture. Post it on our Facebook

pages. And that can be either WIRI or WFHR Facebook page. We're looking on both. I'd

put it on both. Just cover your base. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And a big shout out to our friends

of quality foods IGA, especially our west side one here that we are speaking of primarily.

Yep. Man, I'm telling you the deli there. If you are looking for something for lunch,

that's the place to go. It's amazing. It's such a great deli there. Really good. Check

that out, everybody. And I wanted to start in kind of a fun place here, Seth. Okay.

I think this is a good one. I think we've got something here. Okay. If you, oh, I wanted

to mention then a clock out got good stuff coming up in the nine o'clock hours. We say

hi to the polka guy Tim. Polka and I say hi to us through the window. Oh, Tim is here

early today. Tim's here early doors open, brother. Don't open. Yeah. It's open. Yeah. Good

to see Tim. Oh, yeah. We'll be talking more about the weekend lineup and the sunshine

polka show a little bit later. In the nine o'clock hour, we're going to get in some entertainment

news. And a little after that, I want to get into four things to look forward to in December,

Seth. All right. Things look forward to in December. Lots to look forward to this. Yeah.

But we're starting here. If you snagged a Black Friday deal on a TV, would you consider

dusting off the old one, wrapping it up and giving it to someone else as a holiday gift?

Ooh, re-gifting a TV. Yeah. Yeah. It seems like to think about it. Yeah. Yeah. I do like

the idea of re-gifting a TV. Yes. It is like one of those old old ones. Yeah. One of

the old big panel ones. Yeah. I like candy. I tried to like somebody have no idea that's

what it is. Yeah. So they're thinking like imagining all it being these all amazing things

and then they open it up. And it's like, yeah, you're going to need to plug that in. And

I don't know if you have the tubes. They would go in the back of the TV. There's no HDMI

employees. You can only watch over the entertainers. Yeah. You got a VCR. You're fine. You know,

you can do that. It seems good morning, Tim. Morning, Tim. I think I'm going to see you

now. I appreciate you, Tim. It's good to see you. It seems like every year there's talk about

how used gifts are trending. And this year, it's no different. According to a newer survey,

82% of people are open to receiving second-hand holiday gifts, which is up 11% from last year.

All right. See, it's not a bad thing. 82% of people are okay with accepting those gifts.

And 76% of people wouldn't have a problem giving a used gift. Right. So we've all kind of

gotten to it. Okay. Place with this. That's pretty cool. I would recommend. Okay. Say,

you're going to give someone a book that someone gave you first check it to make sure there's

no dedication. Yeah. And like in the inside cover or on the first page, my uncle Jeff did that.

And he didn't know. So I get the book. I unwrap it. And I look inside and I start just reading

to Jeff from he was really embarrassed. He was really kind of funny though. It's funny to say that.

So what are the items use items we're gifting the most? People are also gifting second-hand books.

That's one of the biggest things people are gifting. Be careful. Okay. Make sure there's nothing

written on there for you because then it gets a little awkward. Every Saturday, you can catch

these sunshine poker show right at seven in the morning. It's a perfect way to start your

weekend and wake up. And as Seth and I will tell you, it is the greatest show you are going to

hear on this radio station. I was going to say put the check that check in the mail. But is

that a thing anymore? Is it Venmo me? Is that the news of the check in the mail? If Tim's on Venmo,

I don't know. Tim, it's good to see how you're doing, brother. Better. Yeah. Good. Good to hear.

I would love to be here tomorrow, but you know, yeah. The analysis is camping in two places at once.

Right. Yeah. I'm game for that. You have to have somebody here. Yeah. But you know,

that's kind of cool. Oh, we'll talk. We're going to do, we'll figure out a way to do that, Tim.

I love nurses talk on there. Yeah. Yeah. If you're game for that, I'm more the game.

That's a cool remote. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, we definitely pulled that off. I thought since we're

lucky enough, we don't get you on the air very often live like this anymore. You got any,

a bit of a preview, any of a tease of this weekend's lineup for the Sunshine Poke Show.

Oh, let's see. Tomorrow's show will have a little excerpt from Red Skeleton. Nice.

Nice. You know, somebody asked me about it. I don't think I played it last Saturday on that show.

I should have, but I didn't. And it talks about how the pilgrims came over and the reason why

they did this and they were celebrating the first, you know, Thanksgiving and he was talking about

at that particular time, 1958, I'm guessing on the TV show as well. He was talking about the dangers

that if our country would be taken over by. Oh, oh, yeah, yeah. I remember, I know what you're

talking about. You know, there's so much crap going on now. Interesting. Interesting. You know,

you got good stuff in there every week. We appreciate it. And we really do appreciate all the time

and work you put into this show. I don't, I mentioned to people Tim scours the universe looking for

new polka. Well, I still look for. And it's still looking. It's still too fast now. I always looking

for music. Appreciate that Tim. I appreciate the work you put into it. It's always good to see you,

man. I'm just headed to get out here to see you. Yeah, you want to tap on the window. That's great.

It was that. I recognize the hat and the face right away. I'd love you, though. Otherwise,

if it was a little darker outside, it might have been hard to tell. To appreciate you being here,

though, too. Trying to think one of the tunes on here. Oh, the grandkids, the grandkids love

that Christmas song. I'm getting nothing for Christmas. Oh, yeah. Oh, gosh, yeah. And mom and dad

of your mad. Yeah, yeah. And it's so funny how they pick up. They know the words perfectly

unbelievable. Yeah, yeah. And if you watch YouTube,

Stan Freiberg did a cartoon. He did. I had to check that out. I don't know if he originally did

the song. Yeah, it comes down to chimney. And it's a crook. It's a burglar. It's all right,

right? Okay. Yeah. All the silverware and stuff. Yeah. And he says my, my, and the kid goes,

my cut's still in there, right? Yeah, my dad wanted to try that. My mom talked him out of it.

With the mask and everything. Yeah. It is always good to see you, Mr. Tim. Thank you so much for

stopping by, man. It's good to see you. Yeah. We're going to take a quick break. We'll come back and

we'll do some celebrating with our good friends at Misty's menu coming up on the morning show here

at W.F. F. Hock. Luckily, grown radio.

Got to wait for it to kick in really kicks in. There we go. Now we can celebrate.

It's time to do some celebrating with our great friends over at Misty's menu. They're open right

now six to two seven days a week or six days a week at ninety forty one. State Highway 13

South of Wisconsin Rapids. When you get there, wish them a great day from all of us at W.F. H.R.

Get some Misty's in your life, everybody. You are not going to be disappointed. You can't have

a glass of water at Misty's and not enjoy yourself. It's great place. It is December first.

Of course, everybody. Happy December. Happy last month of the year. How we made it. And that

means not only did we make it to the final month, but we have to draw our winner for November.

All right. We had 30 possible qualifiers. Oh, we made it. As many as one today. Nice.

Appreciate you guys. Best listeners and radio. Thank you so much for that. But that also means

that Seth now has to give me a one through 30. Seth, give me a one through 30 here. One through 30.

Uh, I want to go on the high and let's do 27. 27 today. All right. That gives us our

qualifier. Don and Gene Jerwisky. All right. Woo. Yeah. Yeah. I got to make it official though.

I got to make it. It's the green one. Yeah. Yeah. So our one sound effect. We got to use that.

We got to use that. Don and Gene Jerwisky were celebrating their anniversary on the eleventh.

We wish them a fantastic anniversary again. Yes. And a reminder to everybody out there.

Get us those birthdays and anniversaries sent into info at wfhr.com. James dot mail of that

civic media.us. You can direct messages on Facebook. Uh, any of our Facebook pages. And of

course, call up. Call up and join the conversations. 715 424 2600. Call up and get us those

birthdays and anniversaries. Yeah. And you could be like Don and Gene winning some free

mysteries. Winning free mysteries in the year. January. Can I ask you a question? Quick, quick.

Yeah. Yeah. I tried to call here. I know you were here before they started. Yeah. And I called

that number 2600. And all that was a busy signal. Yeah. The phone lines are down. Yeah.

Our phone lines are dollars. Why do you say call it? It's, uh, you know, I don't know if you

if you've noticed this, but you're getting routines in radio. Um, and you've become

right. You're going to get a little bit. You just kind of repeat things a little bit

similar to saving the missedies. Many was open seven days a week. But I really appreciate

you calling me out in the air about that. Thank you so much for embarrassing me on the air.

Thank you for that tip. I'm going to see you. I'm going to turn your mic off. Yeah. Yeah.

Goodbye, Tim. Goodbye, Tim. Uh, no, I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I've never

going to do that to you. I've never going to do that to you. It's always good. It's already

point. No. Uh, it is a reminder to our audience, though, that our phone lines are down.

Yeah. Well, we're going to, I was actually going to touch on that when we came back. Um,

because we usually are joined by my climbers talking sports. When Mike, we're not going to be able

to do that this week. And the guy usually calls in, of course. Yes. Uh, and a number of others that

we love to hear from our callers as well. Um, but we'll get into that in a little bit. But

just so the callers do know, yes, our phone lines are down right now. We are hoping any second now

that they are back up and running. Um, that mean the pretty, pretty red lights flashing. But the

it's not good for us. I thought it was just me. I thought maybe I'm down on the wrong. Yeah. Oh,

no. No. No. Uh, let's go ahead and dive into our list. And we got to celebrate not only Friday,

but Saturday and Sunday. I need a one through four for you. Oh, wow. Uh, let's do three. All right,

gives us that qualifier right there. So we can go ahead and, um, look at number Saturday.

Give me a one through three. Uh, one. Yeah. All right. That, uh, that's interesting. That worked

up. Uh, right. So we got ourselves our qualifiers. We can get right into the celebrating first up,

wishing a happy birthday to Mr. Tom Sox. Happy birthday, Tom. Happy birthday to you. Enjoy your day,

Tom. Oh, but it's a good one. Happy birthday to Tim Anderson. Oh, happy birthday, Tim.

I got a almost famous name. Oh, I was going to say who you sign in with. Right, right. Yeah.

Happy birthday to you, Tim and Joy. And we wish a happy birthday to Bobby Dilly.

All right. Happy birthday, Bobby. And a happy birthday to Jacqueline Hittner. Oh,

Jacqueline Hittner. Happy birthday. Hey, Hittner won this. It was just all by, uh, quincidence.

It was all quincidence. I do not see the list. Yeah. Uh, but we wish a very happy birthday to Jacqueline

and your qualifier first qualifier of December. Nice. We dive into Saturday and we wish a happy

birthday to Charles Bukes Hammons. Oh, Charles, happy birthday. If you've seen a play at WRCT

in the last 30 years, chances are you've seen Chuck. Oh, great, great actor, director. I played

Santa for us many, many years. I directed me a couple of times. I had some Chuck, uh, Charles,

a great guy, very nice guy, almost too nice sometimes. I'm going for the first two weeks of rehearsals.

And the only note he has for me is James. I need you softer. So I keep lowering my voice

because I think I'm too loud. He's like, no, no, he finally tells me. He's like, no, your character.

I need you to be softer. Oh, a little more comfortable, a little more quiet, just softer.

Great guy. Great guy. Nice. Happy birthday to you, Chuck. A happy birthday to Michaela Bender.

Happy birthday, Michaela. Beautiful name. Yes. And Michaela Bender. That's a good name.

And we wish a very happy birthday to our former partner and around here, Don Cheeseboro.

Oh, Don. Don is on fire too. Oh, of God. And this the first time, first birthday, Donk and

Technician. He can actually get qualified. Yes, yeah. Yeah, we do a Missy around here, Don.

Yeah. Nobody more than Seth up. Yeah, doing all that work, man. We doing leaving me here.

Uh, Don, for many years, ran this board, ran it well. It's such a great job. Don was one of

those things. He reminds me of a great office of Lyman or something like that, where when they do

their job right, you don't notice, but you don't even notice it. You don't even see what they're doing.

Our board operators are for many, many decades here at WFHR have been known for that.

Yeah. This is great of what they do. I used to do that. Yeah, yeah. That's right. Yeah. I don't

know if you know what they got rid of me. You know, I happen to be leaning into this a little

bit. We wish a very happy birthday, Don. I hope that you're doing great out there, Don.

And you're a little fire for Saturday. And then we have one birthday Don Sunday to put the

spotlight under Abigail Nathan. Abigail. Have a great day. We got to bring that name back.

I know. More Abby's. Yeah, look at that name. It's a great one. Good stuff.

Let's take a look at our celebrity list. Zoe Kravitz is 35, Catwoman and the new Batwoman.

She's also Lita Lestrange and the Fantastic Beast movies that you may notice that last name.

Zoe's dad, of course, is Lenny Kravitz and her mom is Lisa Boone.

Wow. There's a pedigree for you. Yeah. It makes sense now.

Yeah, it does. When you see her and then you hear that, you're like, okay.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Tyler Joseph is 35 lead singer from 21 Pilots.

Recently retired to Sean Jackson is 37 to Sean. I think is retiring literally. Actually,

I think today just signed a one day contract with the Eagles. Oh, that's right.

You wanted to retire as an eagle. Yeah. I know it's kind of corny. I like when athletes do that.

I did too. That's kind of cool. It's kind of cool. It just signed the one day deal and stuff.

I don't know. It shows where their heart is. You know, where they where they had, I think they felt

their best time was at that with that team. Yeah. As fans, it's kind of our last chance to kind of say

a tip of mud. Yeah. A cap to them and thank them and everything too. I like that part of it.

Let's see here. Oh, we've got to say a big happy birthday to one of the greatest singers,

performers of all time. The diva, the rose. Bett Midler is 78 today. That's right. Wow.

I could talk about Gypsy. I could talk about beaches. I could talk about a lot of the acting.

She's done. I could talk about the stage performances. Her Broadway performances.

What I'd like to do when I encourage people to do if you haven't already done this,

and I was fortunate enough to see this when it happened. And I think maybe you guys did too.

The final tonight show. Yeah. Johnny had one request. Yes. Bett Midler beyond. And Bett Midler

comes on and she sings the wind. Wind beneath my wings today. And Johnny was, I think part of

the reason Johnny Carson was the goat, the greatest of all time was because he was Johnny. He didn't

try to put on airs. He was very himself. He didn't mind making fun of himself and a lot of these

things. I don't think in all the years I saw him. I ever actually saw Johnny truly Johnny until

that moment though, because he's he's so like moved. And it's just like it's just him and Bett Midler

in the whole world. Like those are the only two people for him in that moment. And she sits

she comes and sits on the on the table with him. And it's so and she's holding it together

until she sits on the table. And then you could see it hitting her too. And to her credit,

the amazing singer she is, you could tell she's getting upset. You can't hear it in her voice at

all though. Still a complete diva. Still a complete pro. Amazing. One of the greatest singers of all

time. Like I generally think one of the greatest ever. Like Bett Midler. And that moment is one of

my favorite TV moments ever. You know, she's she's such a singular artist. She could do whatever

she want. I mean, she was doing like swing to who was doing that kind of music there. And she could

pull it off because she's just that kind of personality. But I remember like the first time she was

on the tonight show. And he just just you know, loved her. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

John Deadsmore, 79 today for the former drums door drummer. Of the doors. Yes.

Dores drummer. Plus writer. Plus the songwriter of writers in the storm. Probably my favorite

door song was his production wise. That may be the end is up there. But I think writers and

the stuff as far as hits go, especially that that one. So the production on that is amazing.

Another man, 79 Eric Balloon, a former lead singer of Bloister cult. Oh, wow. More

Calbill. Yeah. More Calbill. More Calbill. More Calbill.

Lee Trevino is 84 today. Oh my gosh. Former professional golfer. I think Lee is still

golfing on the senior tour. I guess that he probably is. Do you remember James Joel Quick?

Lee Trevino's fighting golf. Yeah. The video game for back in the 90s. I think it was. Oh my

guys. Wow. I'm so glad you mentioned that. I forgot all about that day.

For me, on my personal list of greatest comedians of all time, I've got George Karlin.

And I've got Richard Pryor, a man who would have been celebrating his birthday today in 1940,

passed away in 2005. Genius. Yep. Like comedians. Change the games. It changed everything.

Nowadays it's not a big deal to see a stand with comedian doing, uh, playing, uh,

characters, you know, going going up on stage and doing voices and a lot of these things.

Richard Pryor was the first one to not only incorporate this into his live bits,

but to make them like, like mud bone and some of these people, like real living breathing

people almost, where he was like, he's not just doing the voice. He's up there as mud bone,

like lynched over and like actually acting out the characters on stage. I hear a lot of the younger

comedians and not just younger, but a lot of the comedians that have grown up that I grew up with

in the 80s and stuff. They talk about this endlessly, how, how game changing this was, how

nobody was doing some of that stuff. Yeah. Richard Pryor has a very, very vulnerable public moment

where he almost dies because of silly dumb reason in all this. And he's laying there in a hospital bed

and he's, he's seeing that on the news, they're reporting him dead. And he's like, I'm not dead,

we're talking about. And we know this happened because he shared it on live on the sunset.

Strip, arguably the greatest standup performance of all time. He shared these things. He,

we know what Richard was going through in those moments. We know what a knucklehead he was

because he's laid, he laid it all out there for you. Yeah. comedians weren't doing that.

Now, people weren't doing that kind of stuff. Like Richard Pryor, like, for all the things we

can say about him, good, bad, whatever, standup comedy would not be the same without Richard Pryor.

Yep. 100%. Uh, Lou Rawls born on this day, 1933 passed away in 2006. God, that voice.

One of my favorite soul voices of all time. I love, I'm still a big, big huge fan of Lou Rawls,

man. That is a voice. Good stuff. That is a voice. Quick look at Saturday and Sunday birthdays.

Aaron Rodgers is 40 tomorrow. Has he told, has he told everyone yet?

Yeah, I've got you. You know, I'm 40 tomorrow. I'm sure everybody knows. What I'm not sure,

though, is, is he going to turn 40? No, I don't know. I mean, he may have some, you know,

some new medical thing that he can do or some type of thing that he can take.

To actually, for first time, keep him at 39. Keep him at 39. I don't know. If, if it exists,

Aaron will find him. You know the Jack Benny. That's right. There we go. And on Sunday,

just a couple of quick birthdays. Brendan Frazier, 55. Now an Oscar winner. Yes.

Congratulations to my love, Brendan Frazier. Great actor. Darryl Hannah, 63 on Sunday.

Another good actor, especially from when we grew up. I keep forgetting she's married to Neil Young.

I don't know how I forget that, but every time her name pops up and it's like one of the things

they mentioned. Splash. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She's what 70? She is 63. 63. Yeah.

And the King of Heavy Metal, Ozzy Osborne is 75 today. Somehow. Somehow he is 75.

I don't know how, how he, and he'll be the first to tell you. He doesn't know how he made it to 75.

And I don't know. I don't know if this comes across as rude. I don't mean it to be. I have a lot

of respect for Ozzy Osborne. Again, another guy who kind of laid it all out there. The good,

the bad was very honest about his life and his career always has been. And there's no way that you

could tell the story of music without mentioning Black Sabbath. You can't do it. You have to.

What they, again, you talk about game changers. When everybody's talking about sunshine and roses and

hippie-dippy this and everything, Black Sabbath is like the world isn't like that. The world isn't good.

It's not like that for us. We're going to give you hard rock. We're going to give this star.

And then at the time nobody was really kind of, not a lot of people were doing that kind of stuff.

Let alone popularizing it as big as they did. Right. But Ozzy Osborne, for me, as long as he's been

around, I kind of expected him to be in his late 80s. Like, 75 is actually young to me.

He actually kind of looks like he's in his 80s.

That's a part of it too. Yeah. The wear and tear.

Yeah, you know, it's the mileage. Exactly.

Oh, I have a feeling I'm going to find out real quick.

We will take a break right here. But I do want to thank Tim for being with us for this opening

of the show. That was a fun Friday, man. Thanks for that. Thank you for that.

Be sure to check out the Sunshine Poke Show Saturdays at 7. You are not going to be disappointed.

Take a break. We'll get to state and local news coming up. Don't forget,

we've got to make you a star of the day with our friends from Calvars here at WFHR.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday, the snowman, was a doubly happy soul, did a con-top pipe met a button nose and twires,

made out of coal. Welcome back everyone. Morning show here at WFHR in the Christmas spirit.

Yeah. We've got Christmas bumpers all month long for you. We're going to be playing the

daylights out of those. You'll be sick of it. You're looking forward to doing that.

In this segment, you may have been a little surprised to hear that music. You're used to probably

hearing, well, you're used to hearing this. There we are. For right now, we're not able to do

that. Our phone lines are down. We are hard at work at that. We've got our friends at Solaris

hard at work at that as well doing our best to get those up and running. We've got another hour

and a half here of show. If we get those phones working at any point between now and 10 o'clock,

we will throw star of the day in there. I apologize for it not being in the normal time slot.

Our listeners deserve better. We are working on that and trying to get that to you, everybody.

So be on the listen. Otherwise, of course, every Friday, when the phones are working, we do our

star of the day. We'll go be sure to do this either today. If we don't get it in today,

we will get in again on Friday. There we go. For right now, let's talk a little bit about driving.

A lot of our listeners out there bopping around, driving around town. Some people are worried about

self-driving cars because they don't think they're safe. But most human drivers aren't that safe either.

Triple A released a new study which found that there are six types of drivers and over half

are unsafe. Oh, dear. So let's go ahead and go through these and you can go ahead and judge for

yourself which one you are. And be honest, be honest. I was going to say and then your significant

other will tell you which way you are. Exactly. Safe drivers. Number one, 41 percent

the survey asked people about various risky and dangerous driving behaviors, laws and rules

of the road. And they also had drivers self-report their behaviors behind the wheel. Okay.

So 41 percent of people are safe drivers. This group had a good understanding of what's safe and

what's not and rarely endangered and engaged in bad behavior. Right. Women were more likely to

be in this group than men. Speeding drivers. Next group, 23 percent were that. These are people

who admit to regularly speeding about 15 miles per hour over the speed limit on highways and

about 10 miles over the residential streets. But otherwise consider themselves good drivers.

That's that's kind of 10 miles an hour over and that seems really fast to me. I don't know.

That worries me a little. Yeah. Yeah. I think it is not much not that this is legal but there is

this kind of like gentleman's agreement on the road of going four or five miles over the

speed limit. Yeah. And this kind of grace that we're kind of given in our in our judicial system.

That it does not have a lot of wiggle room in it. That gets taken advantage of by way too many

people. Yeah. And we're going to lose that kind of like ability. Not that we should necessarily

even have it. Yeah. We're going to lose it completely. If if people don't you know settle down on

this stuff. Well, and you know there's that saying you know that say well I've heard from you know

state trooper that you know if if you're if you're nine you're fine if it's 10

you're mine or some silly thing like that. I asked my brother-in-law who's a police officer

and I said so what is it and he's like what he was he was being silly and he's like well if you're

going over the he like did the law you know he's like you're going on a speed limit mama it's

up to each off I mean it's it's totally up to them you know. Right. They can either say yes

no if you're going one mile an hour over you're breaking the law yeah yeah so they can play over

if you're going one mile and over. So don't don't give me this you know like oh they

they do these things no no if you're good speed and you're speeding. I was trying to find the

exact stats but we did see that well you know with a lot more accidents yeah in the in the state

this year yeah and a lot more of people not only speeding but a lot more of vehicular homicides

this is one of those things we got to correct with this is self-inflicted wound everybody. Yes

this is one of those things where I don't care if you drink just don't get behind the wheel

don't do it do what you're going to do with it's your body do what you're going to do

but you endanger other people we got a problem. There's something wrong with that issue

only cowards get behind the wheel like that just be safe be smart understand driving is not a

birthright no like you don't get to owning a vehicle is not a birthright no this can be taken from

you and if you mess up you it should be yep the idea I would love to get to a day and age where

I open the newspaper and I look at it and yeah I still open newspapers. Yeah I still read actually

newspapers in a hand I would love to be able to do that not see and getting his eighth DWI or

something like that some knucklehead get even one one you get I'm okay with that yeah I'm

right with that we'll never see that but I'd be fine with you get one and we'll give you a little

grace on that one exactly you get to get done no more license no more like you figure it out

I don't care I don't care your situation figure it out you should have thought of that before

you were drunk driving. Distracted drivers coming at 15% these are 50 these are people who admit

to using their cell phones when driving particularly texting and emailing yeah this that's self-reported

we have to keep that in mind only 15% of people admit to doing it I think it's a lot higher than

everything I just said about drunk drivers you can put into this conversation too yeah I feel

the same exact way about these people everything I just said about that if you can't if you can't go

more than a minute or five minutes or whatever it is looking at your cell phone you are not old

enough to be behind the wheel and I'll say that to a 46 year old as much as to a 16 year old

there's again this is not rocket science this is a self-inflicted wounds were creating here come on

distracted and aggressive drivers 17% are those these are drivers who admit to messing around on

their phones and driving recklessly speeding running red lights and all of this and again as Seth

touched on this is the self-reported support it's stuff I'm guessing a lot of people are giving

themselves leeway on this then there are the most dangerous drivers at 2% these drivers admit to

many risky risky behaviors if it were only 2% we wouldn't have as many accidents yeah if it

were only that yeah and finally we go to impaired drivers these are people who admit to driving

drinking alcohol or using drugs triple A says role drivers were far more likely to cop to driving

impaired yep well use of the language right there cop to driving impaired it's hard to say

1% seems high or low these are self-reported which means it could be low could be high there's

a large margin of error on that so keep that in mind everyone I feel that it is safe to I don't

assume things in life I feel it is a little safe to can presume that you know that the people are

not always being honest about these surveys yes yeah which is important to keep in mind wouldn't

if was surveys in general right we're getting real we're we're we're not getting ready we're

constantly in a political state yeah it only goes from 8 to 10 like that's it like right now we're

in an 8 we'll be at a 10 within months yeah but and and that's just the way it is right now in

modern modern day and age yep it's a little like the NFL where there's no real offseason right

they're always talking oh yeah use to be once a president was elected we got a little grace we

got a little break from politics that doesn't exist anymore you're gonna have a lot of surveys thrown

at you you're gonna have a lot of numbers thrown at you do your homework yes do your homework and

pay attention to the people that you are voting for we will get out of the way take a quick break

uh we'll come back and I want to talk with Seth about uh where is that oh here it is how do you

eat a candy cane what how do you eat a candy cane well with my mouth of course we shall discuss I

use my feet we will debate because that's top radio we will debate when we come back hot takes

nothing but hot takes coming up on the morning show here at WFHR locally grown radio

oh yeah can't be Christmas about this welcome back everybody morning show here at WFHR locally grown

radio Seth and James with you chast not roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your

hill tide cows being sung by choir and folks dressed up like Eskimo

oh is that the smoothest voice of all time it's up there man it's gotta be gotta be top I was just

noticing his phrasing how distinct it is I never noticed it before is listening closely to him

the way he phrased things is just really remarkable I've always loved this about Nat King Cole

and I love that you brought this up his enunciation yes like you don't get a lot of that in singing

but every song you hear of his he does that I don't know and you hear in it like the Nat King Cole

show or you watch some of his interviews and things and that's just how he talked exactly and

it's interesting to hear that kind of come through in his singing too yeah interesting I'd love

to know if there was intent in that or not I'd love to have heard him talk about that I don't know

that's a great question but I've always loved my one of my Nana Papa's favorite singers of all

times who grew up a little bit like his greatest hits tape was always played over and over it wasn't

just Christmas that you heard Nat King Cole and it just every song I've heard of is he announced

eats so much of the words interesting we are going to get into how to eat a candy cane in the

moment but first we have got this amazing fun contest going on with our great friends of quality

of them so very much speaking of great things you can get at quality foods you can get candy canes

over there but you can yeah they got all kinds of different flavors now too good stuff yeah it's

almost hard to find a regular candy can you know peppermint stick right yeah well here's a random

question for the first day of December how do you eat a candy cane I think some people out there

were answering they don't you know some people just don't like don't like candy can't yeah I'm

with you especially the traditional peppermint ones and that um god I wish our phones were

working right now I know I really want to hear from you guys uh go ahead and email me if you

want now there you go james dot mail of edcivik media dot us james dot mail of edcivik media dot us

salaris get on this uh we need to talk to our listeners go on guys the national confectioners confectioners

confectioners the national confectioners association they can't just say the candy people

no it's the candy people oh no we're the national confectioners association we don't mess with

childish candy yes they have no teeth yeah we don't eat the candy and look and buddy you know

that can tell you know you don't the kid they asked 1,500 Americans about their candy cane

eating technique okay and the most popular way to eat them is straight and first straight and

first okay 55% of us start by starting at the on the straight end of the candy cane 28% go to

the curve and first and 17% said neither they break it into pieces oh nice I've never seen that

I didn't even know that I didn't ever thought of that well you know I don't know all the questions

they asked them but I know the first thing I do is I take the plastic off and then I start to eat

because it doesn't taste very good the other way oh that got me oh that's a good idea too yeah

yeah not tasty with the plastic it just doesn't seem to taste in the know you're missing an

element of this um so 73% of us prefer classic peppermint candy canes 27% like the other fun

flavors are quote fun flavors fun flavors I like the cherry ones are pretty good yeah uh the

starburst ones and these skittle ones are awesome you know those it's it's like the starburst jelly

beans they're like it's so addictive yeah I mean it's like it because you like that's one of

the things I like about starburst is the flavor now but eating a starburst is tough because it's

kind of chewy and you gotta work on it a little bit but when you got the jelly beans or you're

sucking on a stick you know candy cane or something like that man I'm telling you gotta love

starburst yeah good starburst yeah those are good ones you can get them in a lot of weird flavors now

including oh boy mac and cheese oh bacon hot dogs oh pickles sardine flavored candy canes

oh that's just you just don't like yourself you just see you just see I hate my taste buds yeah

yeah yeah and even ones that are supposed to taste like possum what no what I I didn't believe this

I didn't believe it I had to look it up yeah to look it up you can at Amazon right now get the

Archie McFee possum flavored pink and gray striped candy canes novelty Christmas candy stocking

stuffers I actually think this is a marvelous idea if it doesn't cost you that much to produce

and make these from what I understand candy canes are not that hard to make right how many people

know what possum tastes like that's exactly what I was thinking you can do whatever you want you

can put like that yeah the three people though that ain't like that's kind of mean

go to the Appalachia I'm sorry that doesn't take like tastes like possum I I I love the idea

there that's actually not a bad idea what is a bad idea ten bucks ten bucks for I'm not spent

for no no novelty no like a gag gift to my spend to that no like you're trying to fool someone like

hey have a candy cane you know well maybe now would you would you would you would you do that

to your mom I would know but I would do it to my dad because I love life sadly James

me a lot was killed today James died from Jewish guilt so heavy it's so happy you don't believe me

but you feel it you know it the poll also asked about other types of holiday candy our favorite

foil wrapped candies are chocolate santas chocolate coins and chocolate snowman okay there you go I

am a sucker for those those crispy santas the crisp cringles yeah those are that's one of my favorite

Christmas treats I love those those are so awesome I like I'm a big fan of crunchy chocolates

yeah oh yeah me too crunch and stuff like that I love those and those those chocolate santas are

we're the best yeah I'm a big big fan of chocolate coins and yeah and I I was a little hesitant

to say that because I feel like it's stereotypical like I'm leaning into the stereotype but I can't

know but I really love but that's I mean that's what you're supposed to use him for though is when

you played Dread all you know you're supposed to use the coins that's what you throw in the the

thing so it's not and because it's its tradition it's not I don't think it's a stereotype it's a

tradition I I got to get more coins and I got to get them quicker this year Seth reminded me before

during our break Hanukkah is coming up in just a week yeah it's on the eighth yeah it's like whoa

man really this year I have to admit as a person that loves symmetry and loves when these things

come together Hanukkah landing on December 8th 8 crazy days that's nice yeah kind of like that kind

of like that man yeah it's gonna be a fun fun one this year um we were touching on this uh

earlier in the beginning of the show when Tim came in and they just kind of wanted to wrap it up

a little bit uh we were talking about uh used gifts uh oh yeah right right that kind of thing

first I think we got to come up with a better name for it and then it'll it'll be a lot more

accepted a lot better well I don't know regifting is kind of becoming the more that sound like

better yeah and and not that it needs a lot of work apparently this topic because most people

according to a new survey again 82 percent of people are open to receiving second-hand

holiday gifts which is up 11 percent from last year wow up that much wow 76 percent of people

wouldn't have a problem giving a used gift either and 67 percent of people say the stigma around

giving previously owned gifts has lessened mostly due to affordability but also practicality

and sustainability um some people also want things that are that no longer available new that are

no longer available new oh yeah that makes you know I thought about that but that makes sense yeah

and this brings us back to what we were touching on uh earlier about what are some of those

used things that people are okay with getting electronics is the most common followed by

sporting goods and home improvement items um people are also into secondhand books and we got

that great story about you yeah yeah yeah yeah um media like blue rays vinyl records toys and

oh yeah jewellery ceramics ornaments video games arts and crafts bags and purses um just about

anything man you know I I think that you you take and I and this doesn't speak to everybody

because everybody's got a different opinion on this one or feeling on it but um if you approach it

like you would goodwill or you would like if you would sell something at at a garage sale yeah

would you say would you sell this at a garage sale or would you maybe maybe the better

way to look at it is would you buy this at a garage sale you know you touched on something there

then I that I was kind of leaning towards is I think part of it is now the whole you know uh second

hand shops have become so popular especially with young people that I think that's has a lot to do

with of lessening the stigma of regifting something and a lot of it I think is the sustainability

angle especially for young people yeah it's like instead of buying something new well I got this thing

I don't use I know x person could use it let's just give it to them and as we see now people are

really not bothered by that anymore yeah yeah uh and and I'm glad you brought this up because the

last part of the article says apparel did not make the list as far as gifts that we that we are

cool with regifting yet the rise of thrift stores yeah ten years like that's where and so much

the younger generation and not just the like we're talking like the my my students ages like

21 19 18 that kind of thing like most of the the stuff they wear is thrift store stuff right and

now it's interesting that you wouldn't want to get from somebody you wouldn't want to like actually

know the person giving you the card again but you want to go to the thrift store go to the and buy it

right yeah that's a little maybe maybe that has something to do with it I think it's more that

it's something that you don't have or something that you might want instead of stuff you already

you know get by yourself anyway you get clothes and all that sort of thing so I think that has

us I that has something to do with it so either way I I take a lot of positive from this I do too

I think it's it's really cool we've as kids of the eighties we know the materialistic world that

we were born into and that we look around very disposable world yeah yeah we just throw things

away yeah it's it's been a long time coming but it feels like we may be turning a corner on that

and in these younger generations are getting us to more of a hey we got a lot of stuff in landfills

we already got a lot of stuff let's it's reuse some things things still work yeah yeah we don't

I mean the economy is not going to fall apart right because people start re re-gifting things

already think like that anybody trying to tell you that who wants to sell you a bridge in San

Francisco right right besides how are you going to get a new beta max I mean seriously I mean

I love they're not making though they've made those since 1991 somebody this year is going to get

like eight or ten blue rays and that person that gifts those is going to know hey he's still

got a blue ray player that's right I'm going to give these to him and that person is going to be

ecstatic oh yeah it's going to be the re-cry and they're so happy we want to send a big shout out

to our great friends at the United Way of South Winningham's counties of course had CEO

from the United Way Terry Johns and yesterday with us hanging out and it was always fun hanging

out with Terry and we were talking about quite a bit at the United Way right now you can get in

on their auction yes their silent reef auction is going on right now it kicked off this morning I

logged in the 32 auctions and got ready for this I'm going to now I'm going to do some differ

this year I'm going to let my mom pick oh okay nice pick which one she wants and hopefully we'll

get it but who knows because you guys might want that same one yeah that's right and to take to

whoever's but willing to bid the most gets it that's right I'm looking at these I see a gnome for

the holidays one a silver and gold like there are so many cool ones here oh that that one's

interesting that that different you know you you think of a wreath and you think of a circle that

one's a different shade but I think that's really cool yeah there's a beautiful colored one the

sugar plum one here is really pretty I like this first snowfall one oh that's pretty too yeah

and I don't know what it is but this holiday road I really hope my mom wants that one it's it's

it's your traditional but it looks like a thicker kind of like like like a tree branch or some

years all of these made by locals yeah and donated to the United Way to help the United Way continue

to do their mission continue to take care of our community like nobody else oh we appreciate

our friends at the United Way get in on this auction it's kicked off right now the silent reef

auction is kicked off right now get on over there only got to look like a week or so to do this

too yeah you don't have the small window so get on there yeah go to uswac.org and get in on the

bidding and a big more great big morning a good morning to our friends over at the United Way

of South Wind Amps counties take a break and get out of the way and we'll let Pam take care of

this because she's the heart of WFHR WFHR Wisconsin Rapids 1320 AM and W248 DE broadcasting at 97.5 FM
