Because you are a listener at this early hour to this fine and informative radio program.
So chances are you either already voted like I did last week.
Got the I voted sticker today just to make sure.
Or you have a plan to vote today.
That might not be good enough.
We need you to pester people and say, hey, you, Mr. or Ms.
casual voter, you should get out there as well.
And then they're going to answer with, well, Elon Musk says he'll pay me 20 bucks if I go vote.
Fine, take his money, but vote not to have billionaires running our elections anymore.
So we don't have 20 bucks to give you.
We have instead the ability to send a message to Elon Musk and everybody else who wants to try to buy our elections in Wisconsin.
But that only works if enough people show up to send that message.
So get out there and pester people today.
As you might have guessed, we'll be talking quite a bit about today's election here on the program.
We will be talking to Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez in just over an hour about what's at stake.
on this very important election day and we will talk to Deborah Cronmiller from the League of Women Voters what to know in order to go vote and about getting registered and what what is this constitutional referendum that's on the ballot today that the League of Women Voters and other folks myself included are urging you to vote no on.
We will talk all about that.

Are you an early voter or are you going out later today to cast your ballot?
Well, a whole confluence of issues and things happened the past week that forced me today to be an on-the-day voter.
I usually vote at a time I like voting.
early just to get it out of the way.
I like the sticker.
And yeah, but today I'll be voting in person at my polling place, which is a Mason's Lodge in Kenosha.
Okay.
Reminder folks in the Rhinelander area.
Check with local media and your local clerk's office.
But Dan Hagen told us yesterday that voting was going to be moving over to the middle school, which is just on the other side of the parking lot from the Hodeig.
dome, which was damaged in the ice storm.
And Dan will join us again during our history lesson coming up in 45 minutes or so to talk a bit more about what's happening up in the Rhinelander area.
In all of all of my sports talk about, you know, hockey and, you know, the Badger women winning the national championship.
And, you know, my team is still alive in the men's national championship tournament.
I neglected to note that the UW River Falls women's hockey team, they're national champs for the second year in a row in division three.
So congratulations to the River Falls hockey team for again, two national types back to back.
That's awesome.
And then we need that good news because now I'm going to tell you the Bucks are hosting Phoenix tonight and they've got their own four game losing streak.
that they're looking to snap.
So both of Milwaukee's teams are playing in Milwaukee this evening, both with four game losing streaks to break.
So, uh, guys, I hope you understand the assignment break the streaks tonight.

He's always a day of kind of voter and I never begrudge anybody for that.
I just like to get mine out of the way here.
And then I mentioned pestering people to vote and Tony says, I noticed you had some things to say on Facebook, Pat.
If only you had some kind of radio show to talk about all of it.
Well, funny you should say that, Tony.
Here comes the rant that I put on Facebook.
Unlike the richest SOB on the planet, I don't have the means to bribe people with $20 bills or million dollar checks, but that doesn't mean that I can't try to move you today.
Yes, you, Wisconsin voter who doesn't usually take time to vote in spring elections, you only vote in November.
If you think elections are negative now, if Elon Musk racks up wins tonight, and he is very much
the one name on the ballot.
And if the world's richest man racks up wins tonight, you can't even imagine what every other election is going to look like from now on.
I get it.
You're sick of the ads.
So am I. But the richest man on the planet put an extra $20 million into making us watch even more ads.
so that he can buy a state Supreme Court seat with Brad Schimmel that'll let corporations escape those pesky rules when it comes to things like worker safety, price gouging customers, polluting the water.
He wants to buy a court that'll actually go along with the next effort to overturn elections.
And a guy who won't even acknowledge his own children is drooling.
at the power to control what women do with their bodies.
And look, I could go on, I could, but the main reason that I hope every casual voter and every right of center voter, there's a mag of folks, they're gonna vote for Musk, Trump, Schimel, but there are plenty of people who still consider themselves right of center, and I hope they get out there today along with casual voters to send one simple message, not just to Elon Musk.
But to every billionaire send this message to every billionaire to your George Soros, JB Pritzker, your Dickie Lines, John Bernard's, Diana Hendricks, send a message to every billionaire.
We are sick of billionaires trying to buy elections.
There's a limit at which what you're giving to a candidate or a group
is is way past generous and way past supportive.
It's just obscene.
But that message does not get sent today unless enough people who don't normally vote in April go vote today.
We need Susan Crawford on that court, not Brad Schimmel.
We need Jill Underly
as state superintendent backing up our local schools and not trying to undermine them with a second school system funded by taxpayers that can discriminate against our kids.
We need to say no to voter suppression in our state constitution.
We just need people showing up to vote.
Whatever the weather and the weather, not great, not great today.
This is what I always say about, you know, why do you vote early?
It's not going to be pleasant, but
It's our duty.
And I am not above invoking the fact that there were other people who, you know, fought and died under conditions that were a little worse than what we're facing today so that we could have the kind of country that we have where we can go vote and not have billionaires or kings running the show.
But it's all up to us from this point forward.
So please go do that.

Speaking of that weather, the newest storm system is slamming into Wisconsin today, as Brittany Merlot tells us and will tell us live in our next hour.
She calls it the last blast before things calm down and dry out to end the week.
So her state forecast for today has it turning cloudy and windy, rain arriving first in the west in the afternoon.
It starts to mix with snow early evening as it spreads around up north.
Highs will be in the upper 30s up north to the mid 40s in southern Wisconsin, a southeast wind at 15 to 25 miles an hour.
Temperatures at the bus stop.
It's 28 here in Chippewa Falls, just 18 in Hayward.
Amarys at 30, Wausau 22, Wisconsin Rapids 21.
In La Crosse, it's 29 right now, Green Bay 26, Madison 27.
And in the Milwaukee area, it's 31 at Mitchell and 33 at Radio Park.

Other states do a partisan election.
There are states where just the legislature
elects supreme court justices, their states were just the governor appoints supreme court justices, and then there's one called a nominating commission, the one that most states use, where an independent commission comes up with a list of recommended justices and the governor picks one of them.

I've heard from a couple of folks lately that

Got their season started over the weekend, of course.
And, uh, you know, Bill Schroeder, the rock, uh, he started the game in the booth, which obviously people expect, uh, but it wasn't with.
Well, what did we used to call it here?
Fox Sports Network, and then it was Bally's.
He was actually in one of the big channels on Thursday.
It was nice to see him on ESPN with Joe Buck there calling the game.
And I think that's well deserved for him.
And he also just signed a new contract to stay the voice of the Brewers for at least two more seasons.
And he's been calling Brewers games since 1995.
And last season, he celebrated his 30 year anniversary.
That post had more than 2,000 likes on our Facebook and almost 200 comments.
Todd said, Rock is truly my favorite after Uker.
It's so down to earth and informative with a great sense of humor.
And Jill said, so glad you're staying with the Brewers.
You make the game so much fun.
Second story that got a lot of clicks.
Obviously had a lot to do with today's election.

yes this is what he said on social media he said if you live in wisconsin or have friends or family who do there's an important supreme court race happening right now and there's only one candidate ready to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of wisconsinites judge susan crawford
We've all seen how important judges are in protecting our rights.
So we had almost 2,000 likes on our Instagram for that post.
And we had some people putting the Clapman emojis in our comment section, and Jack, who also said an actual leader.
but we also have some negative perspectives like no Gabe who said not voting for her if he is whatever game
haters gonna hate I believe is the the thing you kids say nowadays
let's end on a later note here and talk about you know more small town gems as you get set to plan your weekend road trips around Wisconsin what do we got this time
Driftless Books and Music Located in Baroque is the state's largest used bookseller located in the historic Baroque tobacco warehouse which was built in 1906.
The Albrecht building once was Wisconsin's largest tobacco warehouses and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now offers the collection of new, used, rare, and antique books as well as records, tapes, maps, a music venue, and an art gallery.
That post had more than 2,000 likes and over 300 comments on our Facebook and Karen said, this bookstore is beyond cool.
in the town of Oracle has excellent restaurants, bars, and great entertainment.
It's a gem.
And Rusty said, we used to take our tobacco there.
So Austin would see it transform into something amazing.
I was blown away my first time I went there.
There's a lot of complimentary posts there.
But I also want to give a special thanks to somebody named Laura, who commented on another post from somebody named Lana, who wrote,
Duh, it's up north news, and this, Viroqua is not up north.
Might try to visit the summer, but it's pretty far from Hayward.
And Laura, thank you for jumping right in there to say, I'm from Iowa, originally, but live in Viroqua.
So generally, Wisconsin is up north from other U.S.

And that's what we've been saying since day one is we we cover all of Wisconsin because to the whole rest of the country, when you think up north, you think Wisconsin anywhere in Wisconsin.

Don't be looking for instant results out there, especially in the larger cities where results often come very late because, you know, all those absentee ballots can't even start to be processed until this morning.
Recall that last year, there was a bipartisan bill to speed up absentee ballot results, but state Senate Republican leadership.
failed to pass the bill last year and that left open the ability to spread conspiracy theories about the late night results, the kind of thing repeated by reckless and irresponsible candidates like Brad Schimmel who wants to seat on the state supreme court but is willing to spread rumors about Milwaukee elections to win election to win election himself to
the state supreme court today.

Uh, Greg, I don't know if you caught this, but we we now know who
Who is one of the big winners of the million dollar check from Elon Musk?
And you might be shocked to learn that one of the recipients is chair of the Wisconsin College Republicans sparking some suspicion that the giveaway might have been fixed.
His name is Nicholas Jacobs, a student at UW River Falls, listed as the chair of the Wisconsin College Republicans chapter, according to the Journal Sentinel story from Hope Carnop.
According to his LinkedIn account, Jacobs worked for the campaigns of Derek Van Orden
Ron Johnson and worked for the group Turning Point Action, the right wing group that's doing voter mobilization.
We told you about it last week, causing some of the split in the, in local Republican parties around the state.
but give Elon Musk a little bit of credit because along with giving million dollars away to just anybody like, you know, the chair of the college Republicans, he also did make clear that today's election is about, and I wish we had the proper echo sound effect, the destiny of humanity.
That's
a interesting way of saying, I'm going to say whatever I have to say because I don't want to feel like I just set $20 million on fire.
which is essentially what will have happened if Brad Schimel loses today.
Imagine having 20 million dollars to put into an election and to then give million dollar checks out to try to, you know, buy attention and votes and now 20 dollars for like block captains and things like that.
So when he says the destiny of humanity is at stake, it really is just more about his bank account.
Which I mean, he made it, let's say $22 million total, the 20 million plus the 2 million.
He made it up immediately.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, his pocket changed to a guy like this.

Yes.
I, uh, I've, I've displayed it proudly on social media here a couple of times on the show and, uh, went to my town hall last week, filled out my absentee ballot.
So anybody that didn't go make a plan, uh, polls will be opening in mere minutes and then until eight o'clock.
How about you?
I
mentioned you're, you're still kind of addicted to that, uh, election day voting feeling.
Well and like I said before in case anybody missed it I don't begrudge anybody that wants to do it.
I've just I've missed a couple of elections because of work or because of weather.
You know we're lucky by and large but sometimes you get that you know
Crap-tastic weather, and I just thought, well, I'm just going to make this automated.
What I do like to do, though, is early vote on my terms, on my hours, along with my local clerk's hours, at the town hall.
So I still get to go to our town hall, which is just a beautiful place.
But yeah, folks that want to vote on election day, just make sure you take the time to go do it.
Polls are open until 8 o'clock, and I'm sure we will have a lot to talk about tomorrow.
Are you the kind of person, and have you always been the kind of person, who votes in
every election like these spring elections or was there a time you know when you were so much younger uh that you were just a presidential only kind of voter
Oh, yes, without I mean, this one is just so important on so many.
different levels and it has not only attracted national attention, not only attracted a record amount of cash, not only has worn people down with a lot of the negativity in the advertising, but it has in a positive way, which is what we like to do in this segment, that has inspired a lot of people.
And you sent me a video clip the other day of a pro Susan Crawford
demonstration, which almost looked like an old Mickey Rooney musical where the kids are in the barn and they go, let's put on a show.
And next thing you know, people are performing on a street corner for Susan Crawford.
At least that's what it looked like to me.
Yes.
I see and vaguely hear some kind of performance happening and you know outside the overture I expected maybe it was some of the performers for whatever musical was in town doing some kind of thing or you know a group of high school kids sometimes they're out there playing they're doing a little mini live performance but instead I look up and I see a bunch of people full full grown adults dressed in like supreme court gear
like the black robe, some had the RBG lacy necklaces on, singing songs about Susan Crawford.
They were singing stop in the name of love and they amended some of the lyrics to be pro Susan Crawford, just getting out the vote efforts.
And I just, it brought a smile to my face to people, see people so energized for a
seemingly random Supreme Court election in April.
But aren't these the kind of people who, God bless them.
I mean, they always know that if you can bring a little bit of joy to something, and look, maybe sometimes you kind of have to manufacture the joy a little bit, but you know, then it can kind of become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
There are just people who
are, you just wonder how they do it sometimes, honestly.
Well, maybe you're one of those people, I don't know, we work hundreds of miles apart.
But you know, the people, they're just like, they're always going to find a way to put a positive spin on this, even something as contentious as a campaign, because they're out there being very excited for something rather than against something.
Because that's actually how I've been responding this this video.
So I took a little video clip of it and I posted it on our social media and You know, it's very easy just to scroll on by
if you don't agree and you don't plan on voting for Susan Crawford, you don't need to voice that.
Really, truly no one cares either way on social media.
And you definitely don't need to attack these people who, like you said, are just spreading joy.
So many people just commented, wow, losers, nothing better to do on a weekend.
And I was feeling a little feisty, so I did reply to some of them.
And my go-to response was just, it's called joy.
You should try it sometime.
Good.
I mean, said in an almost joyful way, you know.
No, no, I truly mean it because just think about it.
I mean, if you're spending your time on a weekend at your, you know, twiddling your thumbs on Facebook, just say, making fun of people who are doing whatever they're doing.
They're not harming anyone.
They're not setting Teslas on fire.
Okay.
So this is a perfectly, perfectly good demonstration.
Of course it is.
And again, anything that's positive like that is very welcome.
I would love to live in an era where, you know, instead of political ads that are tearing people down, that it's just the candidate looking at the camera and saying, I hope you vote for me and here's why.
It's just that, I mean, that's just not the world that we live in here.
So you're going to hear positive things.
I mean, you have, you have to pay attention.
But sometimes you got to dig a little deeper to find it.
So the fact that somebody would put it right out there on the street corner is, you know, that a for effort in my book on that one.
Now, since it's election day, I wanted to know, can I can I hijack your show just for a second and pivot a little bit?
We could have a debate about something, but I want to make it a little bit about sports.
Can we pivot a tiny bit?
Okay.
So I want I, I have this topic and I've
I'll give you your listeners a little preview.
So we have an all sports edition of a newsletter that you can sign up for now.
It's just once a month, then we share a bunch of feel good sports stories that go beyond just the wins.
So we're really focusing on like the human interest element, what these players are like off the field, off the court, off the ice.
And we're giving back stories that you probably haven't heard anywhere.
And one story that I am working on that I think just elicits like a very, it's a good conversation starter.
is who from University of Wisconsin deserves a campus statue next.
So right now there's Barry Alvarez and Pat Richter.
They're both outside Camp Randall, but in light of the recent victory, the eighth national title for the Wisconsin women's hockey team.
My proposal is that Mark Johnson deserves a statue.
I was gonna go
I was gonna go with Kirsten Sims first just scored the
you know that that I look he's got eight national titles.
Of course, it's about him Yeah, he's he's you know already a legendary coach the fact that one of his players, you know has has clinched the two most recent national championships with her goals is a
pretty darn good.
Okay, is it statue worthy?
You know, time will tell.
But yes, Mark Johnson, without a doubt, would would have that coming if you were going to if you were going to put up one on campus now.
I mean, we have so many
I mean, you could just go on and on and on about the players that could be deserving of it.
It could be a Watt family statue.
You could even, at this point, maybe have a tribute to the entire 2010 11 Badgers team.
There are so many on there.
Russell Wilson, Monty Ball.
But then, and then, of course, there's Frank the Tank.
He already has his number retired.
People could give him one, but it's rare that you have that incredible player, incredible coach.
And then icing on the cake, he's just a fantastic person.
I'm just, I'm completely stunned.
I've been just glued to watching every, I think I've seen the game winning shot from every angle possible.
And I've listened to every interview that they've been doing.
And I'm glad all the attention they're getting, they're still getting it more than a week later.
as they deserve and mark johnson in these interviews it just is so funny because he's so humble he's just a completely average guy if you heard him talk you'd never know he has eight national titles one by the way for every single one of his grandkids which is a cool fun fact um he needs a ninth grandkids so we can win that ninth ninth title now um
But he's just so humble.
And a funny interview that I actually just saw the other day was he was saying they were asking him to take them back to that moment.
18 seconds left on the clock.
Kirsten skates out on the ice.
And he goes, yeah, I didn't look.
I decided I was just going to go off the bench's reaction.
So I looked away.
Then next thing I knew, I saw them cheering.
And I figured she made the goal.
So it was just so it is so funny and he was all of us because I think I
I don't think in that moment I was looking at the TV.
I was too nervous.
I was looking and thinking, well, it's definitely a miss because now she's too close.
But it was in that moment that she went from left to right and into the net.
I didn't know she did either.
I thought by now the goalie would have had it under a knee pad or a glove or something.
But we just couldn't tell because the puck is dark and the pads as well.
And next thing you know, you see it shooting into the net.
which, again, was just electric as was the winning goal in overtime.
I will say that if we do put up a statue to Coach Mark Johnson, you could probably look up, I hope the guy or the woman or the team is around that did the statue of Herb Brooks, which I happen to see.
that same weekend, not this past weekend, but the weekend before, when I was watching that hockey tournament in St.
Paul and outside the XL Energy Center.
is an 11 foot tall bronze statue of Herb Brooks from the Miracle on Ice victory at Lake Placid 1980, where he's got his arms outstretched, you know, in the air, and it's just a moment of joy.
And it's a really nice looking statue.
So if anybody puts up that statue to mark, we're going real theoretical at this time at this point is just get that get that statue maker, not the one.
that made the statue of Duane Wade.
Oh, sure.
You can do that.

Yes, exactly.

YouTube tricked their users with the prank by featuring certain video links that didn't actually go to those videos but led to the video for Rick Astley's
never going to give you up.

So there should be no confusion there.
And we have a couple of people.
We have a Rhinelander student or not student council.
That would be funny.
School board and some other elections.
But they're waiting to get a full assessment of the Hodeigdome.
If you missed it yesterday, the thing more or less popped and deflated after lost power in the back of their field.
But they're waiting for the snow to clear to really see the damage.
