It’s easy to attack federal spending simply because there are so many ways that taxpayers make a difference and improve our nation. In one example, it’s easy to criticize the federal government for sometimes paying farmers to not grow crops on some land—but that’s in order to prevent fertilizer runoff, polluted streams, or topsoil loss. Now some Wisconsin farmers are learning they’ll miss out on tens of thousands of dollars if their contracts are canceled. Lincoln Co. dairy farmer Hans Breitenmoser explains how it’s short-sighted to criticize spending without knowing the full story.
