High Noon Saloon Patio’s live music series highlights with Joe Burbach

High noon saloon. Yes, they're playing the high noon saloon on the patio.

That's 430 to 730 show and it's free. I guess you can see our theme all night.

It's the patio at the high noon saloon. And because of the patio, there is no turning back to winner once the high noon saloon in Madison releases their outdoor patio live music schedule.

The patio concerts are always free and they go from 430 to 730 on Thursdays, Fridays and special Sundays.

And here to go through some highlights with us of the new schedule is high noon saloon music programmer Joe Burback.

Burby, welcome to magsync radio. Hey, thanks for having me.

And Joe, before we get to the high noon's patio schedule, tell us a little about yourself, along with booking music, you also play on what's your backstory?

Yeah, I've been playing music in Madison for close to 20 years. I guess I'm that old now.

So yeah, handful of bands throughout the years. The grasshoppers, you know, was my main band for a long time and we actually just played last night at the burrow.

Oh, really? Yeah. Wow. How did that go? How did that show go?

Fun. Always fun. The burrow is such an awesome venue. I love their outdoor at the back deck out there.

Yeah, they have their own little patio. And it was a perfect night for two. Oh, wow. That must have been a lot of fun.

You got any other shows upcoming on the books for your bands?

Here and there, not sure about in town. Other than I do have a patio show with my band Jams.

Oh, Jams. Oh, you're in that band. Yeah.

Oh, all right. That's a bit we didn't even know that. Well, where else are the grasshoppers playing around Wisconsin anywhere?

Yeah, we're playing at a little festival called Feed Your Head Fest. Oh, where's that at last weekend in May.

And it is at the Kettlemore Rain Ranch. Okay. Yeah.

Oh, yeah. That's like a hidden location. Is it? It's a very cool spot.

Nice. Well, tell us about the high noon saloon patio setting that when you have bands out there.

I mean, when people get there, what is the patio at the high noon saloon?

So, I mean, it's the shared space outside of high noon saloon and the brass ring.

We do music out there for happy hours, free shows.

And it's just kind of a cool spot to see a band that you've never seen before.

Or maybe somebody who's been playing around Madison for a long time.

But yeah, just a cool space. Is it what ages? Is there age restriction?

No, age restriction. Bring your dog if you keep him on a leash.

Oh, really? Yeah. We'll have servers from the high noon, brass ring usually does food out there.

Oh, nice. Save a good food.

Yep. We have a couple sponsors like Blue Moon is our beer sponsor.

And the chocolate shop is going to be our sponsor this year.

And they're going to come out a couple of times a year and serve ice cream. Really?

Yeah. Wow. Man. That sounds good.

How many people are usually shopped to these show? I mean, how many people fit on that porch?

Between both brass ring and high noon, we can get over 100 people.

Wow. It's usually somewhere in that range.

Sounds like a party. It's a party.

Nice. Well, tell us about booking local music to the patio.

I mean, where have you found success?

Because I know that you do a lot of original music and a lot of local bands.

Yeah. It's 100% local.

And we get a lot of people who come just because it's a fun, happy hour.

It's outside and after work.

So it's a good chance to showcase bands who are just getting their feet wet and just getting going and building their audiences.

But yeah, I mean, we've always had a pretty strong commitment to local music at high noon.

And this is just another way that we can showcase that.

Well, I am here with Joe Barrack who books music for the high noon saloon and the majestic theater here in Madison.

We've been playing music from bands that are playing the high noon's patio.

The periodicals they are opening the season on May 23rd.

What other local bands on the newly released schedule?

Should we know about?

I mean, we could run through the whole list if you wanted.

I'm a big fan of pretty much every band on this list.

The periodicals have kicked off the patio every year.

Really?

And they call it the end of your teacher's party.

So it's a big Friday night, happy hour for the teachers.

May 23rd this year.

For the teachers like around Madison or any teachers, it's cool.

Any teacher anywhere.

Yeah, but it's a cool party.

And I see on here, Doug Town Hollow, tell me about Velvet Vibe, they're June 26th.

Yeah, Velvet Vibe is Daniel Anderson's project.

He has done tribute to Billy Joel, tribute to Tom Petty.

So he's done a lot of different cover themes over the years.

And this is his original band?

I think it's still tribute.

It's kind of lounge act.

Wow.

I listened some last week and yeah, definitely kind of a cool laid back lounge style music.

Now, we just heard jazz hams.

This is your band.

Tell us about who's in this band.

Jazz hams is an instrumental kind of more funk than jazz.

And it's a it's a mix of a few other musicians in town,

Dan Plurred from Jim Milhalo.

Okay.

Mark Norman also from Jim Milhalo.

Okay.

Adam Ginsberg who's been in a ton of bands.

And Kelby Christchak who was the drummer for the mustache and

Nuggernaut and a handful of other bands.

That's pretty cool.

That's a that's a high powered band.

It's a fun band.

Oh, that is jazz hams July 17th.

Now July 24th is a new band Zarr.

And that's Nick Zarr from Nandie Nation.

Yeah.

So Nick has been writing material for a while and he put together his own band.

Again with a bunch of heavy hitters.

He's got Bo Messer and Chet Wells from a handful of bands.

He's got his brother Jason who is our drummer in the grasshoppers.

But in this band he's playing keyboards.

So really cool kind of jammy kind of funk psychedelic rock band.

It sounds like Madison.

How about one that you said one of your favorite bands?

The family business they're doing two nights in a row.

July 31st and August 1st.

No, no, no, no.

Family business is only doing July 31st.

Oh, August 1st will be Mike in front.

Oh, okay.

Well, the family business July 31st.

You'll have to go on and repair your schedule here.

Tell me about those guys.

There's always a few typos.

Yeah.

But thanks for writing that up.

Yes.

You know, the family business is just a classic straight rock band that has been playing around

Madison for a while.

Always one of my favorites.

So I booked them every chance I get.

I think you said that they've been played they played atwood festival.

They have done an atwood fest before and we're going to get them in here pretty soon for it.

And hopefully maybe we can get them to play in our studio.

That'd be really cool.

Yep.

Such a great band.

Jane Hobson.

She's coming up here Friday, August 15th.

Yeah.

With a full band.

With their full band.

Another, you know, Madison musician who's played a bunch.

I've seen her at Orden Park.

I've seen her at, you know, a handful of other festivals and just really, really great musician.

And her dad killed those are right.

Dan Hobson.

I did not know that.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Jane Hobson is Dan Hobson's daughter.
