Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios and featuring TV and radio broadcast veteran John Minow along with the City of Green Bay's longest-serving mayor Jim Schmidt.
This is Minow and the Mayor.
And here are your hosts, John Minow and Jim Schmidt.
Barbershop quartet day
and when Todd sent that last yesterday, I was like, I don't remember that I just will say that every day Barbershop Somewhere
along the line over the last 20 years or whatever if there's someone or something or some entity that doesn't have a day Man,
that is true too.
Yeah,
you
know The convention of course was in July every year, but I don't remember us celebrating a day But you know, it's like you with sports or just
It was just every day, Jim.
It just was.
Every day in our house we had the music on and the albums on the wall and everything else.
But you know,
it's one of those things though too.
It's kind of cool when you have something.
It's a little outside of the mainstream.
Right.
Like you say, national pet lovers.
Okay, everyone's a pet lover.
National, you know what I mean?
Right.
Love your so-and-so date.
Right.
But a barbershop quartet is such a unique brand of music or whatever you want to call
it.
Yet it's your environment every day, right?
And that's absolutely like wow that's that they
acknowledge it.
It's kind of cool.
I know
so I think we
should have barbershop quartet music for every bumper today time Hey, if you're worth the crap as a producer
I'm sure I'm sure the the nettle hill band will That's
gonna be great.
That's the
other guys are awesome
How cool is it that I feel like it's 1978 and I'm sitting in front of a turntable.
Yeah,
yeah
a real turntable
This is Todd's real turntable, right,
Todd?
It is.
That's the real deal.
You know what
the
album's on?
I do, yeah.
Where did you get that
album?
Todd brought that in from Rock and Roll and
last
time he was in, so it's a trucker album.
Truck driving son of a gun.
All right.
I'm a truck driving son of a gun.
Love it.
This is gonna be fun.
It's gonna be a fun day, Todd.
And then we've got the studio
cleared out
already.
An extra camera set up for Spencer Nolan young later on this morning.
Wow.
Todd will see you at four o'clock getting the studio ready.
I know.
Why don't you call me Todd?
Yeah, me too.
I'm gonna come down.
So you
could
put your leg up.
How's your foot?
All right.
Yeah.
Good.
Yeah.
It is good.
Good.
Good.
Good.
You went to the doc yesterday?
Yeah.
Went down to my doctor in two rivers yesterday.
So it's good to get.
So I went.
It's so hard.
He's, he's good about it though.
But he's, it's, you know what?
Here's, here's the thing these days.
You know, when you used to have a regular family doctor, okay?
I had Dr. Ellen Scherkatsky.
Dr. Ellen Scherkatsky.
Wow.
Do you remember Dr. L?
Yeah, absolutely.
Every week, he was on channel 11.
Dr. L, second.
And I'd say, Dr. L, here's what I got.
And, okay, I know you might know.
I'll get you some.
Yeah, you got it.
Nothing bad.
But nowadays, like, all I need, I know that predazone, whatever predazone, I don't even know what predazone is.
But when I get it, it knocks this out.
But it takes like three days to go someplace and, you know what I mean?
So I just went down to my family doctor and just said, hey, here's what I got.
Here's what knocks it out.
But it's like, you got to deal with something for like four days.
before you can get in to see anybody and before you can get any meds.
Whereas the old days, you just call your doctor, but I'm sure everything's so, they're so careful now, but it doesn't help when you're the one afflicted.
What'd you agree?
I'm not about predisone for your ankle, but yeah,
that's what he gave you.
That's what I've always gotten,
from my Achilles.
What's wrong with that?
Yeah, no, it's not
predisone.
What's
your
other prednisone, Dr.
Schmidt?
I don't know.
I thought it was more like, you know, viking and stuff, pain things.
No, I don't care about
the pain.
I'll do it with the pain, but this knocks out the inflammation.
That's what I need.
I mean, once the inflammation goes down, the pain goes down because it's not rubbing against my bone spur.
So that's what I need.
But if you have a different diagnosis,
please let me know.
No, no, no, no, no.
Those guys know what they're doing.
I went to see my mom after we left Oshkosh.
And I made a mistake.
And I called her.
I said, hey, I got some treats for you, some cannoli.
And I told you I was getting my hair done.
And I, because we're going to this wedding this weekend, right?
And I like forgot.
And she said, she'd, and I'm wondering, so I was driving.
I said, okay, I'll just, she goes, you can bring it to the wedding.
We'll have it with some coffee there.
I'm like, okay.
I wonder if she goes to her friends and says, you know, I'm worried about my son.
I told him something and he's being forgettable.
She's 92, I'm 60.
Todd and I have that conversation every day.
In fact, I'll be honest with you, she has called us.
So you know what happened to me yesterday?
Again?
What happened?
So I'm driving down to Manitowoc, two rivers, okay?
And of course, on 10, yeah, somebody's going 27 miles an hour and a 50 mile, 55, okay?
So I floor it to get around them.
Okay, because they're looking at the scenery and going 14 miles an hour and, okay.
So I keep calm and I do the, so I got my, I'm going to show everybody my boot.
It's like a ski boot.
Okay.
Can I show this, Todd?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
So driving in that, so I step on it and guess what happens?
Does it get locked up?
It locks between the break.
Oh no.
And the gas pedal again.
Oh no.
As I'm going down the highway.
Who's so important you got talked to right now?
No, I was just confirming my my part is all right.
So anyway, um, so I'm driving down the highway and it gets jammed in between So but and I could not get it out.
All right, so I'm going about 70 and I can't slow down I'm trying to use my left foot But when I put my left foot on the brake all that does is pulls my boot further down So I get to the hospital and I step out and all I could smell was brake lining.
Oh
Gosh
Yeah Break on and yeah, it's not the same time because my
foot my boot was jammed in between the two pedals Wow.
Yeah So I don't know if I blow up my brakes.
I don't know if I get my in all the part with a rotor and Break line, but it just as soon as I stepped out.
It's like I just smelled burnt brake fluid Wow brake pass probably wore down.
Yeah
I was when you told what you were driving with that on yesterday.
I was really worried I was
why I did cuz remember I told you that other time that happened over in DPR on that side had to pull into almost like that Parking lot in a snow at a drive over a snow bank.
Yeah slow
down
Why did you drive
with your left foot I?
Didn't think of that at the time Jim might be kind of I would think that'd be a little too.
That'd be a little
awkward.
What I don't know but
I don't know.
I don't know.
But yeah, so it locked in.
Yeah, I can see that happening.
Yeah.
Anywhere the
worst part was, okay, you know this area.
So I'm on 310.
Yeah.
Okay.
And you go past Run Colony High School.
Then you have to take that right to get to Aurora from like behind it.
Because the other memorial drive is closed.
If you go to two rivers, that's closed.
Construction.
Well, good.
So we take Woodland.
Yes, Woodland.
So I'm going down Woodland at 75.
That's pretty fast on a woodland.
That's amazingly fast.
Trying to pull my boot out from my things.
And that's where when I got pulled, I pulled into the parking lot of the hospital just like that.
Could have put your car on neutral.
Didn't think of that, Jim.
So I do that and I step out and it's just like, oh my goodness, it smells like my car is on fire.
When you're in a situation like that,
I
don't think you have the capacity to think,
right?
Oh, you're thinking,
oh my
God.
I'm just thinking, how do I not run into this little old lady, God bless her.
She's going like 30 on that road, okay?
And she's just like this, you know, God bless, you know, 99 years old, cause she doesn't have any kids or grandkids that will bring her to the hospital.
You know what I mean?
She's sitting on the phone book probably, right?
Yeah.
From 1978, cause there are no such things anymore.
So that was a good start to my day.
I still would have driven with my left foot.
Well, that's you.
No, I just, but even when I got in, I would have been like this.
But I thought I was going to be OK.
You can even tell how far you're pushing the gas pedal.
You can't tell really how far.
Well,
you don't have
that feel, honestly.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't.
Well, I don't.
OK, well, then you didn't.
I'm trying to visualize that you're sitting like this and crossing your left foot over to the gas.
Maybe
my legs aren't long enough to do that.
I mean, I'm not even joking about that.
Maybe my legs aren't long enough to really pull that off.
I might have adjusted the seat up a little bit.
I probably have it as close as I can because I get the shortest legs in America.
So I
guess my face would be against the
windshield.
What
is poutine day, Todd?
So
you didn't know what poutine is, did you?
We were talking
about that one.
Yes.
Somebody should be selling at it, the NFL draft.
So it's french fries, right?
And then you have cheese curds, and then you put gravy on top of it.
I've never heard
of this.
It's Canadian, but...
I mean, I even make that at home every once
in a while.
I can't believe that's not a thing here in Green Bay.
I would think so, right?
NFL.
I mean, I mean, maybe a pack or a thing.
Cheese fries and then what?
So it's
fries, cheese and then like
that almost seems like
overkill that you need gravy on top of melted cheese.
Wow.
And you just eat it in a bowl or plate?
Put
it on a plate and you just, you know, sometimes people put a little bacon on it or, you know,
everything's better with bacon on it.
Yeah.
Wow, poutine.
Why didn't you
make us some?
I didn't really know what that was.
What's wrong with Todd?
Wow, all my life, I've never heard of poutine.
It's also a national pet day.
Congratulations, everybody.
But I'm sure if you get a pet, it's pretty much every day is your day.
I mean, that's part of your life, man.
And you get a pet.
World Parkinson's Day very very very very very important thing in the world
progress being made on that.
Yeah, there is
I'll tell you something I don't know what it is that I saw a thing yesterday with Steve McMichael's birthday Steve McMichael Chicago Bears NFL Hall of Fame one of the most badass people in the world I don't know if it's Parkinson's or ALS or something but Jim McMahon and a bunch of his teammates visited him yesterday and said pictures of him whatever he has
That's wow.
It's God bless him.
I mean for and it was only about five years ago I was at an event in Chicago and he was like the featured speaker and I talked to him say hey, I remember you're in Green Bay.
Hi, and we ties you know 275 solid muscle, you know good and what he's been reduced to you could look it up Todd the picture of him You can look up Stephen Michael's birthday that poor guy man
Hope is a body can be so devastated.
I don't know what it is exactly But I'm just saying this there are so many former NFL players When you look up somebody, you know, it's like hey, I wonder what thank you and I'll be died of ALS died of Parkinson's died of whatever there are so many things that happen in that era of football players that when they get older is Terrible
It really and truly is.
And I think the NFL, I know they're trying to do things now.
Obviously, they're trying to do all kinds of things now.
But they're about 20 years too late for a whole generation of players.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm just going to say that it's not just the NFL.
No.
That is a huge, huge.
No question.
But the
NFL guys with their head pounding
against whatever, whatever, who would be normally,
you know, take care of their bodies.
Right.
Being healthy
and, yeah.
Eight track taped a, wow.
I didn't have a player.
I didn't have one.
Otherwise, I would have
brought that in, too.
I would only want it if it skips.
I think most of them dead.
Yeah.
Brewer's at the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8 o'clock tonight in WISS.
We got a nice day.
We're going to have some phenomenal, unbelievable lineup of guests.
Stay with us.
Yeah, you're live with that so go ahead and go ahead and place it on the everybody
How we doing out there?
I know yesterday was trucker Thursday, but I'll tell you what it's always trucker Friday.
Am I talking to you fellas?
And damn right.
Hey, I'll tell you what you keep the shiny side up We got a little something for you.
We're going way back 1963 with this song get a kid you because I know what you guys are you're all truck driving sons of guns
Damn right,
I'm gonna hit the post in this.
Are ya?
Don't lose your load,
fellas!
Tomorrow is record store day, and
Todd
Magnuson from Rock and Roll Land will be in today to talk a little bit about that, and hopefully bring in a couple of albums we can just play a little bit.
If I
didn't feel a little bit of magic putting that needle on that piece of plastic, I'm telling you, that's a little touch of magic
right there.
Absolutely.
That's fantastic.
This is still a cool turntable you got
here.
It's a relatively new one.
I got it maybe 10 years ago or so.
Oh,
OK.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's cool.
Based on oh, yeah, it's vinyl right now sells more than CDs
Really?
Yeah, it's back.
It's Todd Magnuson gonna bring first.
I'm rock
and roll.
I'm hoping he's bringing some in
Um, I messaged him this morning.
I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get that thing rolling this morning, but I did.
So we'll see what he's able to do.
I love that.
Oh man.
Got a couple of texts or love the old eight tracks when they would have a song between two tracks.
Absolutely.
They would always skip, for example, Led Zeppelin stairway to heaven.
Absolutely.
Wow.
That's awesome.
This is good stuff.
Thanks for bringing that in, Todd.
Got
to be a lot of fun.
A happy birthday, Josh Stone.
38 I'm not sure whatever happened to her.
She was off to an amazing start in her singing career and then just sort of petered out beautiful young lady and the whole thing Lisa Stansfield 59 Not quite sure who that is Who is she a 90s singer remember just don't she was gonna be the next huge thing and never You know what I mean?
Yeah, never quite took that next step, but she was gorgeous.
Um She's fondue day.
I've never had cheese fondue
I've
had
chocolate fondue with those fountains.
Yeah, those are good,
which I like a little slice of banana
or
a strawberry at those things.
Jim, do you have a fondue set?
Yes.
Yeah, I would yeah.
Actually, I'll be honest with you.
I do too.
Okay, see, but it's an old 70s one.
That's all right.
That's okay.
Why would you want to upgrade that?
And those are avocado green the whole thing.
You
know, those are cool.
There's the kind of the red those those sets are awesome.
And
then the different green and orange the color of every every kitchen in 1972
harvest gold,
right?
Different colors, but did you put?
Beef on I've never done that.
See that's what we did like cubes
of beef and put them And then
we're we had million kids and then of course every fork has a different color on the end so you knew which one was yours
You know what I mean?
Like the dot on the end of the fork
of the actual foot.
Okay.
So yeah, I got you
green whatever then we would take chunks of beef and Put it on and I mean,
I like it.
It sounds crazy.
And it's a little extra 70 I would love fun.
I would love something like
the reason my dad liked that is that's more of a conversational meal because well
Yeah, absolutely around it right although I will say this you know what I despise And I've only done it in was it Mexico or Hawaii?
I don't know one of the trips I did with people and the people
I hate the sitting around with the hibachi guy, whatever it is.
Yeah.
And you got to make conversation.
He's flipping it.
Oh, that's so honey.
Yeah.
It's like, I just want to eat my meal.
Yeah.
But that, I don't know that that I wouldn't say that.
Is that the
hibachi?
Yeah, no, it is,
but I
don't think that's the same thing,
because that guy is put on a
show.
Yes, you kind of went there to, he's there to
entertain you.
He wants a tip too.
That's fine.
I did not know that.
I didn't see you there.
I've never tipped.
I never tipped a bocce guy.
I didn't, I literally, and I'm not even joking.
I'm not trying to sound cheap.
I didn't know you're supposed to tip him.
Okay, maybe, maybe you're not.
You're probably right, Jim.
I mean, you're probably right.
Well, I'm sure you're right.
I just think.
I'm kind of entertaining though.
Oh yeah.
I mean, some of
these guys are funny too.
But you know, sometimes you're hungry.
And you just want to eat.
Don't flip another shrimp in
your mouth.
Right.
Don't do
that.

Ed DeBevix.
In Chicago?
Yeah.
Oh, absolutely.
That...
That was fun.
Took a little getting used to though,
right?
Yeah, yeah, a lot.
I wouldn't go in there in a bad mood.
I mean, because kids are really used to, you
know...
Right, they like that part, yeah.
But they're used to, you know, being respected, they really tease them, you know,
and that's just... No, it was fun.
I think that's really cool.
The two places we used to go to in Chicago all the time and...
It's like oh, I gotta go to anything and then the other one actually three places The other one was hard rock cafe is when those opened.
Oh, that's a bomb.
Whoa, it's this cool
shirt
Yeah,
absolutely no question.
You buy a t-shirt because you know what the collector thing was.
Oh my
god, like what hard rock Chicago?
Yes, yeah, that was that was the cool thing.
Yeah, until you the internet starting you could go in the order for many or you know, huh?
Bageladash hard rockin Somalia.
How was it was great.
Oh, it's unbelievable, man.
The camel was great.
And then what was the other one Chicago?
Oh, um Uno Pizza.
Is it Uno's?
Yeah, Uno's.
for the big dish.
But you know what?
Yeah, I'm not a big deep dish guy.
I will take that pizza over at, um, Sam's Crowns, Crown Commons, where we shot the old fashioned.
I will take that pizza.
Yeah.
No.
Wow.
Sam's.
Yeah.
I thin crust is, yeah.
Yeah.
And the mushrooms.
I just can't get over the mushrooms.
And he kind of told his trade secret.
I know.
I was like, wow, okay, that's how you do it.
That's what I'm going to
do.
To be normal, if you see somebody making a pizza at a bar.
And I like bar pizza, trust me.
But you'd, okay, they grab a handful of mushrooms, just throw them on.
They sauteed their mushrooms beforehand.
That was, and he told us, I like
how those
are really good.
And he goes, well, you know, the secret to that is, I'm like, okay, that's cool.
Right.
Yeah.
Fantastic.
But that at the other place in Chicago that Carson's, you know, the ribs haven't been there.
You know, I'll tell you the best steak place though was, um, uh, Larry McCarran used to take me there.
Real famous.
uh steak place in chicago you go upstairs what is it
what'd you say well there's larry's but
no um ah cuz larry made fun of me still makes fun of me because when i said i wanted blue cheese they said you want blue cheese and i said
Like real blue cheese?
Like, what other kind?
I said, I'm not in a packet?
Because I'm used to being at restaurants when they give me that little packet.
You ever go to Ziggy's back today in Allaway?
Ziggy said, I was bringing her a salad that asks what you want for dressing to bring you a plastic packet of it.
So Larry's like, Lyle, you're in
Bleep in Chicago, the best steak place.
You think they're giving you your blue cheese and a
plastic wrap?
Get out of Nagani.
Brian just says I just give the hibachi guy a round of applause no tip That's funny,
that is really funny.
All right.
I love those good listeners
hoping a little appreciation Quick

For WGBW and WISS News, I'm Lisa Hale.
The head of the Democratic Party in Wisconsin, Ben Wickler, has decided he will not seek
another term.
Charing the party since 2019, Wickler said it's time for him to take a breath and find new ways to advance the fight in the United States for working people, freedom and dignity.
Quickly after Wickler's announcement, Devon Remaker of Two Rivers and former executive director of the Wisconsin Democratic Party announced his bid to fill the top spot.
Party members will elect a new chair to a two-year term at the 2025 Wisdoms Convention in Wisconsin Dells in June.
The next Oshkosh Fire Chief has been selected.
The City of Oshkosh Police and Fire Commission chose Tim Hyman to step into the place vacated when former Fire Chief Mike Stanley left to return to Colorado.
Hyman is the current division chief of training for the department.
He comes to the position with 20 years of firefighter experience.
The Police and Fire Commission will formally appoint
improve and square in Hyman at an upcoming meeting.
More roads in the Lambeau Field area will be closed starting Sunday.
The NFL draft stage is going up along with the excitement for the event.
After closing stretches of road on Oneida Street and Armed Forces Drive, now parts of Eastbound Lombardi and Ridge Road will close Sunday and will remain closed until May 2nd.
The NFL draft takes to Tidal Town April 24th through the 26th.
35 year old Michael Donnelly of Appleton pleaded not guilty Thursday to the co-sleeping death of his one month old son in 2010.
Donnelly, who was 20 years old at the time of the incident, is accused of drinking heavily and causing the death of the infant.
Officials say it took 15 years to bring charges because the case was lost after the original investigating officers left the Appleton Police Department.
The file was finally turned over to the DA's office last year.
Defense attorneys argue that the evidence does not support the charge of reckless homicide.
The trial will take place September 29th.

Well, the teams get ready to choose their top draft pick.
You can help Mino and the Mayor choose their top craft pick.
Northeast Wisconsin is home to amazing breweries, wineries, cideries, and distilleries.
And we need your help picking the best.
We've drafted 10 of our favorites, but which local craft beverage creator will go to number one?
That's up to you.
Mino and the Mayor's top craft pick.
Drafting Northeast Wisconsin's finest one sip at a time.
Now back to Minow and the Mayor.
Here's John Minow and Jim Schmidt.
Hey.
Hey,
welcome back.
Minow and the Mayor are in a good look at Friday morning.
North Friday means high school football.
And
let me tell you
something.
What?
No, Friday means we got to reflect and we got to re-energize and we got to get a great
person in our life like
Steve Jones.
No.
Coach
Jones.
Good morning.
How are you, sir?
I'm doing
great.
How are you guys
good?
Hey, did I ever tell you something?
What's that and not about coach?
I know I gave you a lot of advice.
Oh my
god
Did I coach?
Did I give you some good advice during the year over the years?
Give me some great excellent advice.
Thank you, sir But I tell you that when I was in Iraq and when I say I was in Iraq when I visited Iraq to visit the troops and I asked them about things that we don't appreciate living here in Northeast, Wisconsin that they realize now when they're away from it
And I said, just going to think, so I said, I'm going to read them on my radio show.
And you know what?
The first thing was walking up to a high school football game and hearing a band play on a Friday night in the fall.
Really?
That's what they.
How cool is that?
Isn't that something?
And I would
not have guessed
that.
No.
And I remember thinking to myself.
I don't know if we appreciate that as much as we maybe because you know you I mean you're so focused on the game or we're on Friday nights I'm focused on doing whatever I do and we I don't think we enjoyed it as much maybe and soaked it all in the way other people do and I just I want to tell you that that you know you're such an unbelievable part of high school football in the state of Wisconsin and you know I try to still play my little part but I think sometimes we gotta just sit back and say you know what we're pretty lucky to be a part of this.
There's no doubt about it.
Yeah, we talked a lot about that with our kids of trying to enjoy the moment.
And I was probably guilty of not enjoying it as much as I should have.
We always talked about, I think as coaches, it's kind of like a family vacation and just making sure that the kids are having a good time.
But I'm glad you shared that with me because high school football is special.
And those moments are definitely something that, as you look back, just the band, the crowd, the kids, all those things are.
just such a unique thing in the fall in Wisconsin.
And we're talking with Steve Jones, former head coach at Kimberly High School, unbelievable record at Kimberly.
He's co-hosting a thing, leadership, I shouldn't say a thing, leadership workshop with Lucas Jaden, your partner.
Talk a little bit about what you've turned your life into coach in regards to helping other people now because you walked away from like maybe the greatest high school coaching job in Wisconsin history in some ways and you decided you wanted to help other people and share different things to help them
take that next step in whether it's, you know, their home life, their business life, whatever their professional life.
How, how did you get inspired to do something like this?
Yeah, it just kind of happened organically.
And to me, I think the mission is the same.
This is just trying to help people, right?
And the audience might be a little bit older, but you know, the opportunity not only to coach football came really high school, but I had the amazing opportunity to teach leadership classes that came really high school.
to teach and develop three separate leadership courses that all built on each other so it was definitely a passion of mine and it just kind of happened organically where I started to work with you know some businesses some local businesses and really had a passion for it and uh and then able to partner with Lucas Jayden who is my amazing partner and co- co-author of our book and uh we just again connected he's such an amazing person and
He really helps people become the best version of themselves.
He works with some of the highest performers in our country.
He gets to coach the manager of the LA Dodgers, Dave Roberts.
So he's been working one-on-one with him for six years.
So I consider Lucas a World Series champion.
But he gets to work with some amazing people, and we're really excited to be able to offer this event locally to anybody that wants to come.
A lot of our work, like we talked about in the last show,
is specifically with businesses that hire us.
And it's rare that we open up, kind of open up to the community to be able to experience some of the stuff that we get to do with these high performers.
You know, Steve, what's interesting about that is these high performers, you know, you're talking about Stryker, Mutual Volma.
I mean, everybody needs, there's something for everyone in these seminars, right?
Even though you might be a top performer, you know, people may perceive you as hitting on all cylinders.
There's still something to learn.
And I used to go to a lot of these seminars.
They had these in Milwaukee.
Well, this is probably 25 years ago, but you're too young.
But you know, Schwartzkoff would be there and Zig Ziglar, you know, that whole group.
Remember that?
Maybe you don't because, like I said, you're much younger than I am.
But I always sent my employees to that because there's always something to learn at these things.
And I just think, and this is like, yours is $99.
I think we paid a hell of a lot more than that.
What a great thing for people to get to because you always walk away with one nugget, don't you?
No doubt about it.
I think it's an amazing opportunity just to meet people where they're at.
And we already have a great sign up already, and it's diverse people from different organizations and different levels of leadership.
But I think the unique thing that you talked about too is when we get to work with these businesses, so many people don't necessarily always talk about the impact that it's making with them at work.
how it's making an impact with them at home.
It's making a better mom or dad or spouse or partner.
And they're able to take these very simple concepts and apply them in their personal life as well.
So not only makes them a better leader, a better performer at work, but just as importantly, they get to bring it home and make them a better person with the people they love the most.
You know, I remember being a coach's office, a college football coach, you had to sign up.
It's like, you want to know what pressure is?
Pressure is feeding your family.
on how a 17 year old kid is going to be on Friday night.
You know, your life depended on that.
And you dealt with all these kids over the years, over the years, over the years.
What did you glean from dealing with those kids?
What did you walk away from that they taught you?
You know, that's a lot of things.
And that was one thing I talk about a lot is, you know, I specifically had the opportunity to teach these leadership classes and coach football is
I learned just as much as they did.
I learned from them.
You know, I learned a lot of what held them back, what they were fearful of, what they were excited about.
And, you know, it kept me young and fresh and on top of it.
So, you know, I could rattle off a bunch of different things, but I think the biggest thing is that every individual has their own journey and their own situations when they walk into a classroom, when they walk onto the football field and, you know, nobody
is the same right and everybody's got their own different story and if you can get to know what we talk about is really getting to know the person behind the uniform and you can get to know their story and their struggle and all those other things that's when you really form those bonds and we talked a lot that connected teams are powerful teams and creating that human connection of getting to know those kids and those stories because I think early on as a coach and as a teacher I didn't take the time to do that.
You know, they would come in, they would, you know, work with them.
We try to execute the game plan without getting to know the person behind the uniform.
But once we started doing that, I think it took us to another level.
Coach, I'm sorry.
Anybody that's ever been a coach, I can't call them by a first name, no matter how, whatever.
So I'm always going to call you coach.
I hope that's okay.
Your book, Twin Thieves, what's the title from?
The title actually was born from our leadership classes at Kimberly High School.
So I always post a question.
in the beginning of what held them, what holds you back from being the best version of yourself or being the best leader you can be.
And we actually have them write it down anonymously on a piece of paper.
They crumpled up.
They throw in the middle of the classroom.
Everybody would grab a random sheet and then everybody would read that random sheet.
And two things kept coming to the surface every single time.
And that was the fear of failure and the fear of judgment.
And what we talked about is a lot of times those two things, whether you're 17 or you're 70,
can really rob us of a lot of things in our life.
They can rob us of joy.
They can rob us of success or potential growth.
I could keep going on and on.
And we call them twins because a lot of times they get mixed up.
A lot of people say they're scared of failure.
But the more questions you ask, you realize they're not even necessarily scared of the failure itself.
They're worried about what the judgment comes after the failure.
So we call them twins because sometimes they get mixed up like twins.
And we call them thieves because they can really rob us.
We allow them to.
So.
You know, the book and our work is really helping people rise above those Twin Thieves to really embrace their journey and be the best version of themselves.
So the book is really how great leaders build great teams.
That's a subtitle.
And you do that by helping people rise above the fear of failure and the fear of judgment, which we call the Twin Thieves.
Cool.
And in this leadership workshop that you're putting on, and we talk a little bit about high school uniforms and the stories, but like you said, whether you're 17 or 7-0,
Everybody's got their story, right?
I mean people gotta learn about people everyone's got some kind of story behind them and You still everyone still has those I don't know insecurities, right?
Self-doubts.
Yeah, he's talking about
there's no doubt Yeah, there's no doubt about it and we in what was really interesting is You know that's what I was finding in the classroom And then I was having conversations with Lucas who was working with these high performers throughout the country And it was the same with them right and a lot of people think you know
once you experience, you know, some success or once you reach a certain age, then all of a sudden some of these insecurities go away.
But I think they actually magnify.
I'll be honest with you, when we were in the middle of that 70 game win streak, the fear of failure and the fear of judgment didn't go away.
It got stronger.
And, you know, probably Rob, me going back to what Mino was talking about of really enjoying some of those moments because, you know, I was so worried about, well, you know, what if we come up short now and what if, you know, all these what ifs and projecting a future that hasn't happened yet.
And so these things don't go away until you learn to rise above them.
And that's some of the stuff that we'll work around, you know, talk about at the workshop.
And again, that goes back to what we're talking about.
I think every single person.
Can can use this in the personal life in the professional life and we're gonna dive into some stuff that we haven't done before around Our next book which is gonna be centered around growing greatness Which we're really excited about of you know There's a lot of stuff out there from you know going from good to great But I don't think there's enough tools and stories and principles of once you experience success Then how do you continue to grow?
And we're going to talk about that, which I'm really excited about, which we really haven't done before.
This is going to be great.
So this is Wednesday.
This is May 14th.
So this is coming up.
We can still plan.
Do you still have seats available?
Yes, absolutely.
And then if people sign up before April 15th, which is next week, they get to bring two guests for free.
So as you mentioned, it's $9.99.
I'm sorry, $99.99, but then you also get to bring, you know, a couple of people from your team at work or whoever.
So really it's a, it's a really cool opportunity to bring some people with you.
Uh, and I think a really affordable price for it.
This is amazing.
I
said there's going to be, there's always something to get out of this.
So, um, how do we get the information again?
You want to just give me your, uh, your website?
How do you sign up to get tickets?
Yeah, I think the best place is going on LinkedIn.
So the Jaden Jones LinkedIn account, my personal LinkedIn account, we have a really cool video.
We just posted on it and the signup link is really easy to find there.
So Jaden Jones on LinkedIn or Steve Jones on LinkedIn, if you just want to.
search that you'll be able to find that rather easy.

It is an awesome city.
It's an awesome place.
I live in a great place here in North, North East Wisconsin.
Sure.
What's going on
with new Wisco weekend?
Well, Newisco weekend this weekend, the issue is focusing on gardening.
While it might be a little bit too cold right now to start putting the tomato plants in the ground, you need to start planning.
And we've got stories about a woman whose house, her inside of her house is filled with plants right now that she's starting from seed so she can transplant.
We talk a little bit about that.
We've got stories on weather and how it pertains to gardening.
A pest in the garden can be a great little heartwarming thing in the home and that's a bunny rabbit.
So I've got stories about adopting bunnies and other things too.
We've got stories on Project Search, prostate cancer, of course the classic movie Pick of the Week and more.
Nice.
Bunnies.
as pets.
Yeah, that you
try to chase bunnies
out
of gardens.
Why can't you?
I don't think they eat everything.
No, no, no, I don't think they recommend that because it isn't that.
Tell me about that.
OK, so wild rabbits, you wouldn't have a wild rabbit.
You'd have a domesticated bunny as a pet.
The domesticated bunnies are specifically bred to be pets.
And you can train them.
Oh, yes, bunnies are extremely intelligent, and they're soft, and they're social, and they're cute, and they can be trained to do tricks.
They taste good.
Butt buns.
Now, that's something I would say.
It's a nice wine size.
If
you haven't tried Haas and Pfeffer,
hook.
Sorry, Lisa.
Lisa is not even
smiling.
In in all honesty and complete and total Transparency I've eaten Hassan Pfeffer When I was a child, of course, I lived in rural Michigan We were very very poor and my grandfather would go out and shoot a rabbit So yeah, but no I'm talking about domesticated bunnies like lops and and There's some
are they like cats then do they have like a litter box or do they go outside like dogs?
They're like cats you you train them to go in the litter box and that's what they do
Wow,
I never knew this.
Oh bunnies are fantastic pets especially for families there You can't pick a bunny up like you can a cat You know because bunnies are prey animals bless their hearts if you come down above them and grab them around the side They're gonna think you know big old hawk has just got me but they they are wonderfully social they can be trained
I love bunnies.
If I had my druthers, I would have a bunny, but instead of a
tarantula, me too.
In addition to the tarantulas, the bearded dragon, the dog and the cats.
I would also have rats and everything.
Oh my God.
I love animals.
I love all animals and rodents are wonderful pets.
I was going to say, you don't love animals.
You love rodents.
Love all animals really all animals.
There's never correction.
I do have to say there's one animal that I am Deathly afraid of and will not get near and that's a horse
Yeah, I'm with you on that
horses scare me to
me to me too totally Yeah, yeah, it's only and cows cows scare me a little too That's what I want to rate if I didn't have this Achilles gout problem and with this big boot on
I would be racing a cow right now for money.
I'm sure you would.
And we would all be putting money on your opponent.
That's right.
Lisa,
I'm not sure if you heard, but he was driving with that boot on yesterday and he got his boot caught between the gas and the brake pedal.
Oh, no.
And when I
pulled into the hospital, it smelled like something was burning and it was my brake pads.
Oh my God.
It's
as bad as you.
Yeah, I was just going to say, John, what'd you do?
Take a page out of my book for driving?
I
tried to take a page out of my life with you.
I wouldn't advise.
Give
your show a plug.
OK, so Newisco weekend is Saturdays at 8 o'clock, Sundays at 11 here at 97.9 WGBW 98.3 96.5 WISS.
It's a wonderful show.
You're going to hear stories from all over the state, but we really focus on new WISCO weekend.
Love
it.
Love all the different top.
I mean, like, where else are you finding the topics like this?
I think that's the fun part.
Bunny's.
You're right.
Prostate cancer.
Right.
Gardening.
I don't know.
I don't know how to train your rabbit.
Hey, but you talk about gardening, you say it's a little bit early, but it's not too early to start ordering the garden beds if you want one.
Right.
Right.
I see those advertises now.
And people make those and it's a nice thing to order now.
So yeah, anyway, good.
All right.
We'll be listening in.
I look forward to having you guys be a part of.
All right.
I've got a spider crawling up the wall right now.
I need to go rescue.
So
you're literally going to rescue it.
You won't kill that.
Will you?
No, I will not.
Why?
OK, well, strange.
Good for strange people.
People are strange.
But think about
this.
That was Todd's roommate one time.
Wow.
Good thing for that spider.
He's over there.
Absolutely.
Wow.
To live another day.
Lisa Hale, you're
awesome.
New Whisker Weekend is a phenomenal show.
