Special Guest: Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12)

Born and raised in the Mon Valley of Pennsylvania, Rep. Lee is a dedicated organizer, attorney, and progressive state legislator. She graduated from Penn State and Howard University School of Law, where she focused on civil rights and social justice advocacy. She worked as labor organizer, joining the Fight for $15 to increase the minimum wage. In 2018, Lee won a seat in the State House. Despite taking on a 20-year incumbent she doubled voter turnout, winning with over 67% of the vote. In 2022, Summer made history when she was elected to the US House of Representatives for Pennsylvania’s 12th District, becoming the first Black woman ever elected to Congress from Western Pennsylvania.

Maggie and Summer talk about introducing the American Stability Act, The American Stability Act is a powerful legislative solution to the ongoing threat posed by destabilizing levels of economic inequality. The legislation combines tax and wage reforms into a single bill that establishes a more sustainable relationship between labor and capital and that will permanently insulate American workers against disruptions caused by an evolving technological landscape.
