833-212-1017 is the number to dial.
833-212-1017 is the number to dial.
I'm gonna give y'all a brief rundown of the menu, then we gonna get right into it, because we gotta make sure we on time for 12.30.
Because, you know, 12.30 is what?
What's poppin'?
That's what I've been forgetting to do.
I ain't did that all week.
Today we are starting.
with a tragedy at six flags that has everybody asking the same question.
How safe are these rides?
Then the woman who allegedly posed as a substitute teacher at Rufus King, Amy Jones, is back in custody.
Shannon, get your cousin fell.
And this time it is.
This time it involves a stolen SUV, a loaded gun and a crash in Illinois.
She was in Illinois.
I thought she was in Brookfield.
Then the Milwaukee Fire Department asks for $61 million to replace its age and equipment.
But the mayor's budget gives them 3 million instead.
We're going to pack that out.
We're going to unpack that and I packed that out.
That sounded crazy.
We're going to get into that a little later today.
And then at 12 30.
What is it, Shannon?
12 30.
We
Then it is the insanity plea on the rise.
That's what we want to know is the insanity plea on the rise, man.
Because left and right, it seems like people just coming out and making that plea.
And we're going to close with a Milwaukee story from 1854.
All right.
I feel like we did this one already.
We did talk about that one.
With 5,000 people in the city decided that a law was wrong and broken man out of jail.
And they got away with it.
Yeah, we talked about that one.
We did talk about that one.
So we ain't going to talk about that.
We did talk about it.
You know what?
I think I talked about it on the extended version, Shannon.
They feel right out of it.
We could bring it back.
We could bring it back for our listeners, man.
We could bring it back.
So it was Columbus Day yesterday.
Only Columbus or Christopher acknowledges biggie Smalls.
But we'll that's another topic.
A lot of Atlanta families were on fall break as well.
And six flags over in Georgia was open for the holidays at about 358 in the afternoon.
A man was riding the Goliath roller coaster with his son.
His wife and daughter were on the ground watching.
His name was Hassan Jihad.
Hmm.
I don't know how I pronounce IBM, but Kareem.
He was 42, a beloved teacher from the Atlanta area by his family's description.
Somehow mid-ride, he came out of his seat.
Witnesses say he fell and struck the coaster cars three times on the way down and landed on the roof of a haunted house attraction below.
Writers on the same train watched it happen.
One writer's official souvenir photo reportedly captured the fault.
That's insane.
Yep, on the ground watching the ride.
Yeah.
And they said several more people were injured.
The park was evacuated.
Six Flags says it is deeply saddened and cooperating with the investigation.
The Cobb County Major Crimes Unit is on it.
The father was riding with his son while his wife and daughter watched.
There's always at least a couple times a year.
And those are the deaths.
So you wonder how many injuries that don't get reported or publicized.
Because I'm pretty sure they do try to keep these types of things quiet.
But when somebody
passes away in that manner is hard to keep.
Keep it quiet.
Almost impossible, especially in today's where everybody got a cell phone.
I'm almost sure it's hard to keep it quiet.
So we got some stats, Shannon.
OK, so our question is how often does this happen, right?
So the honest math, they say.
The chance of being seriously injured on a fixed site ride at an American amusement park is one in 15.5 million rides taken in 2024 across North America.
There were 118 serious injuries against more than 1.7 billion rides.
The industry says you're more likely to be struck by lightning.
attacked by a shark or killed in a commercial plane crash than to be seriously hurt on a coaster.
I don't like the odds.
I don't look.
And like, I literally had just seen something last week where, like, somebody went to the hospital after.
I remember what ride it was.
Obviously hindsight is the best side, but they said literally they went to the hospital and the doctor was like, man, that ride again.
So like, like I said, these injuries happen that are serious, but they're not being reported properly probably because they want to save face.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
So they say about four people die on American amusement rides every year.
And it's not a random that we keep seeing the name six flags in these headlines.
This Goliath had a death before back in 20 2006, a 45 year old man died of an apparent heart attack on the same ride.
And just two weeks ago, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California permanently closed its world's famous X two coaster after a CNN investigation documented a pattern of serious injuries and deaths on it.
Yesterday, Six Flags shut down nine similar rides across the country.
Out of an abundance of caution, Kings Island and Ohio clays its Orion and Diamondback coasters outright.
When the company turns off nine rides in one evening, that tells you something about what they think of the risk.
The math says Shannon rides are safe.
The news says a 42 year old teacher is gone and a son.
And wife watched it happen.
Which one do you trust?
Where?
When you're strapping your child in?
Call us up.
833-212-1017.
That's the number to dial.
Do you trust these rides?
Do you trust this, Shannon?
Shockwave.
I think that's the blue one, right?
It was up, Ryan, going up the Shockwave, walked all the way up the stairs.
And soon as we get to the cart, my people wouldn't let me get back.
I was trying to get out of line.
They was blocking me from exiting.
I
go anywhere.
We'll be right back after these messages.
Now it's time to tap it.
Now it's time to tap it.
To what's popping with maybe shanning.
What's up what's up troop
Popping with maybe Shannon on the award winning 101.7 the truth now.
It's time to get into what's popping with Shannon So if you have not heard the Atlanta dream are headed to the WMBA NBA Finals for the first time since 2013 they'll face the Golden State Valkyries is that what that that's called?
I think
I'm not a basketball fan so close enough
And these women have earned their celebration.
But a congratulatory graphic has people asking, why are the men in the picture?
Y'all know Ray likes to say, I'll be picking on men.
So listen, this might be one of those days where I'm like, why is the man's here?
OK, so here's what happened.
The Atlanta Hawks posted a graphic celebrating the dream making the finals, but included
Hawks players Jalen Johnson and Nikhil Alexander alongside the women and some fans were immediately asking What did they have to do with this team going to the championship?
Critics felt like the Hawks were inserting themselves into an accomplishment that belonged to the dream Now you could look at this as one of Atlanta's team showing another team some love and support in supporting women's basketball as a good thing, right but
I do understand the criticism too.
You can congratulate someone without putting yourself in their celebration.
Like they're literally like, it looks like they're all on the same team of sorts.
Like the fire is very confusing.
Okay.
Like you got the women, like a few of the star women players, and then they also inserted two players from the Atlanta Hawks.
So for you to be like, Hey, congratulations.
It's like, why are you in the picture?
Literally, what are we doing here?
So.
I feel like the women, like in as much like promotion that the women don't get and all these things that have come up in the past, I just feel like the women have earned their moment to be the faces of that moment, right?
And since we're talking about the Hawks, let's put history in perspective.
The Hawks have never reached the NBA finals while based in Atlanta.
The franchise is the last finals appearance was in 1961.
When they still were in St.
Louis.
Damn.
They moved to Atlanta in 1968.
So we're talking about 65 years since that franchise even seen a finals trip.
And you, you won't need these women's flyers.
If you don't go ahead on, why are y'all here?
Okay.
That's all.
It's just like, let them have their moment.
But I guess it, you know, it'll probably be another 65 until they get theirs.
Anywho.
Meanwhile, the dream are getting ready to play for this championship, right?
And this latest update is is where serious questions are raised about whether they'll even have enough room for fans.
So this is a whole like the congratulatory flyer happened.
And then immediately after a whole another drama happened, their regular home.
their regular home center arena holds 3500 people for basketball 3500 I want y'all to imagine that because that's the smallest arena in the league y'all know that right that is smaller than most college
I guess they said that the state farm arena has some scheduling conflicts involving a concert in the box games leaving the dream searching for a bigger place to host the finals You can't make this stuff up and before somebody says well they can can they even feel a bigger arena right because a lot of times they're like well don't nobody watch WNBA in either way they can't feel that that's what people say but
According to the team's announcement through the WNBA, they've sold out the State Farm Arena eight times over the last three seasons, including
And that doesn't guarantee that every game will sell out, but it absolutely shows that they can garner a larger crowd.
And a few of the women, y'all know I don't do the sports thing, but I actually recognize a few of the women.
So I do believe like these women are becoming like more popular.
Yeah Yeah, so there is the update as of today, which is October 13th The dream and the Hawks have announced that game three and four will be played at State Farm Arena Game three moves to October 21st and on October 24th The dream will play in the afternoon before the Hawks play that night.
So a solution has been found
But it took this long.
Like, like, I don't think any other... Like, where is it that that would even be an option to make these women play in an arena that small?
Like, it's just, to me, it sounds like blatant disrespect.
Like, y'all good.
Playing this elementary school gym, y'all got it.
And then y'all want to be on my flyer, though.
Please, bro.
Please.
So, the credit is due for getting it worked out.
But as women's basketball grows, and I'm just wondering, is planning keeping up with the players in the fans as this grows?
And then I also want to go back to the graphic, right?
It sounds like it's harmless, but it's also like, why would the Hawks feel the need to insert themselves in that spotlight?
That's all so Ray have you ever had a moment where you accomplished something only for somebody else to find their way Way into making their selves a part of the celebration or make make it their moment.
On the whole Atlanta Dream Arena controversy, I just think it's funny how they would never expect the men to play in an arena in front of 3,500 people.
They would never put those men in that arena, even if it were a regular season Tuesday night game against the fucking Washington Wizards.
They would never move those men
So basically she she's upset and she feels like that would never happen to the men they would never force them to Figure it out because I think if there wasn't as much pushback More people like if more people didn't catch hold of the story It would have just been what it was like they didn't have any she in the clip She also goes on to say like doja cat had a concert and somebody else's arena and they moved her concert and doja cat is a huge Huge, you know
Let me double double double check that one double check that one.
So here's here's my thoughts.
I do think the WMBA needs a little bit more respect, right?
I'll start with that.
And I'll also say.
the WNBA is also a business.
And unfortunately, yes, they will.
They would never put the men in a 3500 person venue because even the worst NBA team is selling bare minimum 10,000 tickets, maybe 12,000.
I don't know.
Maybe a little bit less than that.
I just feel like.
The WNBA hasn't been generating enough revenue yet to, you know, really have these these amenities and all of these things that they will.
They really just started getting some other perks and benefits once Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark came in.
So I think they're growing.
Their league is growing.
I do think it's sad that they don't have a venue.
for them to play the championship game in.
And I'm interested in how many tickets did the last championship game sell?
And who are they playing, you said, Shannon?
I think it was.
Wasn't it like Vegas?
Vegas WNBA team got.
I feel like they won like six for the last six on WA championships.
I'm not mistaken.
But, um, yeah, I don't know, Shannon.
I just think the WNBA got a little bit more work to do and low key all the people that are complaining about WNBA, go buy a ticket, go support them women, go to the game.
It's straight up.
It's not expensive to go to the game.
It's not at all.
You can get floor seats for under $500.
Like, go support the brand.
If you support a player, if you support Angel Reese, if you support Irique or Gumbawale, you know, go to them games.
I'm trying to catch a game when they play Chicago or something, you know?
So, yeah, we got to support
Okay.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
feel like they
such

All right, Shannon, how are you feeling?
We were talking about the WNBA.
And we were talking about how the men, the hawks.
They ended up inserting themselves in the congratulatory flyer for the women's team.
And then directly after that, it was announced that the women's team were going to be asked to play in the smallest arena that
they have
Come here
you feeling cousin?
Awesome.
Hey, I liked what you said about us buying tickets if we're if we're, you know, gonna complain, right?

Bed.
Give me a blanket, folks.
So we're going to close this first hour out with this, right?
We're going to close the first hour out with the signature bond and the stolen SUV.
Milwaukee, we told you about Amy Jones last week.
The rivers, oh my God.
Oh my God.
Rufus King.
Alumni slash fake substitute teacher.
She told officers she was substitute teacher.
She got placed in a classroom for multiple periods and allegedly cursed at students use racial slurs talked about sex acts six felonies one count of impersonating a public employee.
She got six felonies off of that.
Five counts of exposing a child.
They said they trying to give her what, 20?
Man.
And her court appearance last Tuesday, her attorney, Michael Surangilia.
Told the commissioner she has bipolar disorder.
Ah, there it is.
She'd been off her meds because of a delayed prescription delivery.
She has no violent history.
And there was a hospital bed waiting at Granite Hills, the committee, the commissioner, the commissioner released her on a $5,000 signature bond.
No money down.
Her preliminary hearing is set.
for October 20th.
I know they gonna use this somehow in this election.
David Crowley puts criminals back on the street.

So, Shannon, it's hour two.
How would it do?
Man, it is hour
We have.
We've been flowing pretty smooth today, too.
So we talked about WNBA with West Poppin with Shannon.
We talked about the Goliath ride.
We also talked about Sierra's cousin, Amy, from Rufus King.
We talked about that.
And now we are getting into, hold on, before we do that, yesterday was the first day of Viv's view.
So if y'all was tuned

I heard she had it slapping in there.
So.

The truth.
Milwaukee's black talk.
Man.
All right.
So Shannon, moving it along, right?
Before we move it along a little key feel bad for the first so when they let her out on a signature bomb Then they say they had a bed available for her You would think they would have her on some sort of like hold somewhere That's the part that bothers me because clearly she like it's very clear.
She's mentally ill Hmm, and she's doing things that a normal person would not do right and it's just sad that
They let her out just to do the same things essentially like stuff that just don't make sense to a regular human and like it's clear that she's not violent You know what I mean?
So like the fact that she's facing all that time is super like that's really unfortunate like granted in the time that she'll be in jail They'll be able to stabilize her probably but now she's stable in jail for stuff that she did when she was clearly out of her mind.
Hmm
call us
I'm feeling good.
My question to you and Shannon.
Have you noticed how Hampton is starting to look like green field or chip and and Mitchell, have you noticed that?
How is looking very, it's looking very, it's looking very south side.
Have you noticed how we got all these Roman houses with these derelicts and these junkies that look like they came from the trailer park or the dirt road of Kentucky?
Have you noticed these pearly with constant dope hair, crack hair, prostitutes, blue toothing and turning tricks for dope?
Have y'all noticed that in the Milwaukee?
Because we're looking very free port polite.
Okay, we got listen we got what the white people is safer in our neighborhood than us And you can always tell when the neighborhood is changing because they always walking down the street with two Huskies picking up trash at two o'clock in the morning.
Oh You ain't noticed that you got all these dirt bikes and tracks and
You didn't notice that in the walk?
Y'all ain't even seen any of that?
And I
You know what you noticed it too, right?
This the other sign.
When you see them riding the bicycles up and down.
Well, I've noticed it the most is Center Street.
I've noticed it on Center Street.
I've seen some of them folks that you just described earlier.
And just for the sake of professionalism, I ain't going to describe them again.
But I saw one last
night.
And we got to get out on.
On the 6th in Akerson, it'd be somebody out there looking like John Holmes and a dirty Jesus talking about, uh, can I get some money?
And then it'd be some down on Akerson and Houghton standing down there.
And then what they'll do is they'll walk around to the side of the building and jump in a BMW 3 Series.
So I'm trying to figure out how is this all allowed to be going on on the north side because if you went to the south side They'll say if you don't get your corn breed collard green sweet meat ass from the south side with that Bush is a honey iced tea So how is it on the north side?
It's allowed to happen and I know some of the moment house has got to go in front of common console
One more thing, between Burlai and Locust, that ain't gonna be nothing by Section 8.
So the only people that's gonna make money is the five liquor stores that's north and the fast friendly that's on Locust along with the new gas station.
So my question is, how is all this allowed?
And I hang up and listen to y'all.
Y'all have a good
wanting us to
now.
find the lack if you go on find the lack in center find the lack in North Avenue find the lack in Walnut find the lack in Capitol find the lack in Congress
The whites is littered all over there.
They just getting it in begging.
Now, I don't know what type of car they jumping in after.
But, you know, I do know it exists, but I do know when I see them on these other sides of town, you know, people move, they get moved around.
So it's just just an interesting observation.
We gon' do something, we gon' have a conversation on one of these shows about that, Shannon.
We gon' put something together for that.
And then we'll ask.
I'll ask a Mark Chamber, you know Mark like to call.
All you gotta do is just say Mark name.
And he pop up like
Candy
Straight up.
Straight up.
Man, when we come back Shannon, we will get into our local news.
The Milwaukee Fire Department asked for nearly $61 million in capital improvements.
Money for trucks, engines, equipment and facilities like the fire tower they train on.
All right.

Holding us down with the production and sound and that's right.
It is lunchtime and we eat We eat and Shannon eat eat eat eat eat eat Hey, you bet
I've done it.
I've done it, man.
I can't even front.
All right, y'all.
Let's get to the local news.
Shannon, I got a question for you.
OK.
I got answers sometimes.
When maybe, you know, maybe when a crime happens, you know, and somebody calls 911, whether it be a medical emergency, gun violence, domestic violence, whatever, you know, some something happened and people are dispatched to the scene.
Who do you think is the first person?
On the scene, Shannon.
I think because I worked at the hospital, I have like a little bit of an understanding of how that works.
So depending on what it is, the ambulance comes first.
But if it's something like life threatening, like a, if they think it's like a heart attack, if they think it's like a gunshot wound or something like that, the fire department, but each time medical professionals, which is, you know, fire or.
EMTs, they arrive on the scene first.
And a lot of times you see like when they arrive to stuff that could be still active or still the issue, the wait for the police to enter.
But yeah, most times fire or EMTs get there first on the scene.
And if it's not something that requires them to stay, they would leave, you know.
But that's typically who I see first.
I usually see them first, followed by ambulance.
Sometimes I see the ambulance come first.
But the Milwaukee Fire Department.
We already know we have this budget situation, right?
That we always been dealing with the pensions.
But anyway, the Milwaukee fire department asks for nearly $61 million in capital improvements for fire trucks, engines, equipment, facilities, a fire tower that they train on.
Mayor Cavaliers, Johnson's proposed 20 27 budget gives them.
How much?
Three million dollars.
Just three million dollars.
That's it.
Nick Kovac, he went to Riverside as well, says there's not enough money for everybody's needs and that the funding is better than years past.
That's crazy.
But still not nearly enough.
Alderman Peter Burgelis.
Who led the charge last year to fund new fire engines over the mayor's attempted veto said this budget puts off critical investments and leaves our firefighters to make do again and again All right Now let's keep these numbers straight because this matters.
This is the capital requests.
So this is this is a good
This is a good educational moment for me as well.
This is the capital request, not the whole department.
The fire department's operating budget is around $165 million, and it's growing in the proposal.
But they let them grow.
They grow.
The police grow.
Let five people grow.
But trucks don't last forever in the same agent fleet that drew scrutiny last year is a year older today.
A department that keeps asking for engines.
And keeps getting pennies is a department being told to save your house with broken equipment.
The mayor's proposal is a final.
The Common Council can amend it and be jealous is already swinging.
So this is one worth watching, y'all.
And because the city needed.
A smile today.
This is sometimes I wonder.
Why do I put all this extra stuff in here that's not needed?
Like why'd you do this dumb dumb straight up?
It's got me something worse than dumb dumb.
You're stupid.
What's worse than that?
Like, yeah.
You know, I went from worse
to worse sir.
All right.
Well, give me that.
All right.
We talking about this budget, y'all.
So yes, the fire department is asking for 60 million capital budget to fix a lot of these things.
Ah, I did not know that.
Brother, my D fire trucks are made in Wisconsin up north.
Did you know that?
I had no clue.
That's actually very interesting.
Shots out the city, girl.
I feel like we ain't seen you in a while, cuz.
That's how the distractions happen.
You start seeing your cousins and they came in a while.
But yes, y'all.
Sixty one million and they got three sixty one million.
They needed new vehicles.
They needed new engines.
They needed to train to to repair the tower that they trained on and so forth.
Now, I got homies.
That's firefighters.
So firefighters got a very, you know, special place in my heart on top of having homies and friends, you know, that is I give you one better.
I'll give you one better.
I got a homie, and I hope you don't mind me talking about this, because I do want to bring him in to talk about his experience to share.
He's a firefighter.
And he's in a burning house doing his job, you know?
And the...
the house was so badly on fire, the floor gave out and he fell.
And you know, I don't even want to tell the rest of the story without him giving his perspective, because I feel like it is his story to tell.
And it's certain, you know, things that they need.
And if they didn't have it, you know what I'm saying?
This would be a very different conversation today, Shannon.
And I always, I'm always going to advocate for the fire department because in my opinion, those are the first ones I see.
They the ones, the young people, they want to ride the fire trucks.
They want to, you know what I mean?
I'm not saying police aren't in the community.
I don't want to start that conversation.
All right.
Just
Straight up, man.
Like let's think about somebody who put it in the chat.
Somebody just put it in the chat.
They said fire department.
They answer the accidents, homicides, overdoses, fires.
They have a big job.
Also says.
What was he says?
Firefighters is really helping the hood working overtime.
Overdoses are out of control by design, population control.
That's what Brother Mahdi said.
So just think about it.
We saw that overdoses was on the rise in our community.
Who's responding to them?
If they don't got the right equipment, how they, you know what I mean?
So I'm always gonna be a heavy advocate for the fire department and this is why I say The city needs to figure out and this isn't just one person's fault or problem.
You feel me because I think for For most of the time for most part like We throw the blame on one person Shannon or a few people But
We got to be more creative on how the city is generating money because we don't make no money.
We got no revenue generating mechanism here in the city other than taxes.
When we come back, Shannon, we're going to talk a little bit more about this and then get in to what is supposed to be the meat and potatoes, the insanity plea on the rise.
Maybe our elected officials gonna just say, man, look, the whole city is entering in this sanity plea.
We can't afford any of this.
Don't go anywhere, y'all.
This is the lunch break on the award-winning 101.7 The Truth.
Hey, cousin.
Don't go anywhere.
The lunch break with Rayonetti and maybe Shannon will be right back on the award-winning 101.7 The Truth.

John, we need to rap on it, John.
You see what I'm saying?
You see what I'm saying?
We gotta put the truth on it, John.
It ain't true if it ain't got the truth on it.
All right, y'all, let me calm down.
But it's Taco Tuesday.
I wish people could see, like, the disrespect that brother Zee be throwing out there.
He don't even be looking even.
He'll be down in his phone.
You see what I'm saying?
Yeah, you be look you think he ain't even paying attention Then he just hit a button like bro, did your hand even move like but I Shannon We talked about the budget we talked about that.
Oh, yeah, this is what we were talking about
Eight three three two on two ten seventeen that is the number to dial eight three three two on two ten seventeen That is the number to dial we're talking about the budget the Milwaukee budget the fire department our beloved First responders I Get one of them first responder flags I Get one of
that's what it is for
firefighters and first responders, but one of the lines is red if I'm not mistaken That's what I learned last year if I'm not mistaken, but 61 million 61 million in capital improvements
And the budget gives them 3 million.
Now I seen pictures of some of these trucks, y'all.
These trucks is, huh.
I gotta see if I find a picture.
They need new trucks, right?
I gotta find a picture.
They need to go to again.
I gotta find a picture.
I gotta find a picture, dawg.
It was ridiculous.
I'm like, yo.
They need to go get one of them four-wheelers.
They need to go holler at John from Southeast Power Sports and get one of them rikers.
our fire
I think I
Like it's funny, but it's not imagine the tire doing that on the way to an emergency found Stop playing with these people folks Like lives is on it.
We already We already cutting you know, we already closing fire departments down like stop it found this is we get we need to Come back to the table.
We need to come back to the table y'all
We need to renegotiate a lot of these deals.
I think Brother Z got the picture of what the fire department tire looked like.
If you on YouTube or if you're not on YouTube, run to YouTube right now so you can see this picture.
But this is what our fire department is
I'm not saying this is a Chevy problem, right?
Because I don't think we go brother Z so petty for zooming in to the tire that close.
I don't want to just put this on one person.
because it's not fair.
This is years of a deterioration.
That's not right.
Of Milwaukee County, Milwaukee in general, Milwaukee city from our services, from our funds, from everything.
We've just been on a decline financially.
We are not doing anything like forward thinking to generate revenue.
I don't see it.
I don't see it, fam.
All we doing is raising the parking downtown.
All they say, right?
Somebody said these raggedy streets messed that tire up.
I believe it.
They probably hit that pothole that was on Fonda Lockett North Avenue.
So I'm just saying that we got to go back to the negotiating table.
Look at all these terrible deals that we have in place.
All right, all these terrible deals and no disrespect to the Baird Center in the Wisconsin Center District.
I get it.
You need some sort of revenue or Visit Milwaukee.
I love the work Visit Milwaukee does.
I love they should be funded as well.
But then it's like we fund all these things, but to whose sacrifice to at what cost, you know, and.
I'm just saying, can we renegotiate the deal a little bit so our fire department don't have to ride like that, folks?
Like one of the deals that I talk about often is our hotel tax.
All right, we don't.
That's insane.
The city gave it away.
We for some reason just gave it to the Wisconsin Senate District, not for some reason.
because it was supposed to be helping develop that whole area, which we see it has proven, you know what I'm saying?
It produced some sort of something.
We got the beard center, but okay, did we have to give all of that tax revenue away?
We gave it all away with it.
We didn't say, okay, let's split it 50-50.
We don't give y'all 50% of this hotel type.
That's Airbnb.
That is Uber.
That is all of these other things.
Hotel, you feel what I'm saying?
So it's like, we don't do nothing strategic, nothing creative to generate revenue.
Respectfully, Milwaukee should have a shared revenue partnership with Summerfest fam.
That's city on property.
Like why we don't get revenue from Summerfest, not just ticket sales, but liquor sales as well.
Why we don't have streaming and selling streaming ads all for Summerfest.
Chicago is doing it.
Coachella is doing it, but we not doing it.
We just sitting here and constantly just raising it on the people.
And it's frustrating.
And the fire department never going to get to us because of
Correct.
So yeah, man, what is your creative idea?
833-212-1017.
That's the number to dial.
Because I feel like, you know.
Everybody has an opinion, has a complaint, has a critique about how things should be.
I want to hear your ideas on how, if you were mayor, how would you, or just an elected official, not just say mayor, because it's not on just one person.
What would you do to help generate revenue or change the way the city generates revenue?
I got some ideas.
And when we come back, I want to hear from you.
Shannon, I want to hear your idea, because I know you got some good ones.
I know you got some good ones.
Don't go anywhere, y'all.
I got some ideas, all right.
Really?
When we come back, y'all, we're going to close this thing out right here on the award-winning 10170 Truth.
Don't
go

Elevate your experience.
Well, Holla at your boss and your gals.
Gal.
I think I feel like it's being highlighted a little more, but I think a certain demographic had been using it to their advantage for a really long time.
And yeah, so I don't think it's on the rise, but I think it's it's being pointed out.
More and I think the the what do you call it like I?
Feel like in our like the black community specifically like even in instances where we know people probably should have it they don't get it and I think people are pushing harder for you know those disparities to be called out mm-hmm, but I think in the white community We know plenty people like that was always up that was kind of like a running joke up.
They gonna get the insanity please
Nothing don't get you know I'm saying so I don't think is it on the rise I think more people are calling it out like man
Hmm No for sure for show for show we definitely don't get it not in our community so The insanity defense is rare the standard figure it is an old one, but it's the one every
textbook still sites says is that it raised in about 2% of all criminal cases and juries rejected about 75% of the time is raised.
There is no consistent national tracking of how often it succeeds.
Study of individual states show it working anywhere from 20 to 70% of the time, depending on the state, which tells you the system is a patchwork after John Hinckley
was acquitted for shooting President Reagan.
27 states changed their insanity laws, most of them to make the defense harder to win.
In 2020, the U.S.
Supreme Court said in Cal Caver versus Kansas that there's no constitutional right to an insanity defense at all.
States can narrow it or abolish it.
So basically leaving it up to the states.
Hmm my D said be the smoke man and your city will eat I Mean that's it.
That's a that's a good one.
I mean legalize it legalize it how many people driving to Illinois to purchase their products and Paying those high taxes to Illinois
We literally surrounded by every other city who has went and legalized cannabis.
I get it.
Some people feel like, oh, you know, this thing, this thing, we don't need this thing.
But you also don't want your taxes raised.
So can we let people mine a business and do what it is that they do?
And maybe your taxes don't get raised.
Liquor is
It is it is.
Hmm.
You want to see me having a good time?
Put some broguella in my cup, boy.
I can start talking like this and everything and be fine.
Straight up.
I'm not violent though.
I'm the person that's just gonna talk to you like all day like, man, I love you.
I love you, fam.
I'm just gonna say you to love me drunk.
I'll lay somebody down for you.
I'll kill anybody in here right now over you, bro.
Look, everybody looking like, what we do?
After I just said, I ain't the violent drunk.
Oh, take everybody out.
If anybody tried.
That's love.
That's real love, man.
So like they said, there's no consistency when it comes to it.
So is it on the rise?
The honest answer to plea isn't measurably rising.
The visibility is.
Let's take Lindsey Clancy, for instance, the Massachusetts mother who killed her three children.
Chase them down, too, by the way.
In 2023, her defense leaned on postpartum psychosis for two years.
And just weeks ago, after a mistrial, they dropped the insanity plea entirely and switched it to arguing that she can't that state can't prove she did it.
What?
What the hell did I just read?
Is that a state?
It was
she admitted that she did it didn't she I Believe she did So what more proof of her doing it does is needed Anyway, we'll take Fairfax County in Virginia
Where the Commonwealth's attorney has accepted an insanity plea agreement in several homicide cases and the critics are calling it a rubber stamp the cameras keep finding these cases and every one of them feels like a trend Here's the uncomfortable part and it brings us back to Amy Jones She hasn't entered an insanity plea her attorneys argument bipolar disorder manic episode
off medication was made at bail hearing, not a trial.
It's mitigation, not an insanity defense, but watch what happens in the public mind.
A mental health explanation lands in half the room here.
She can't help it.
And the other half hears she's playing the system.
The split is the whole show when mental illness walks into the courtroom.
Do we see a person who needs treatment or a defendant who found a loophole?
So, I think I feel like we need to do a deep dive on mental health on these shows.
Because I feel like what we're seeing is right now is a watering down of a symptom or a situation or disorder or a sickness that real people are struggling with and dealing with, right?
And now you have exactly you have people who are just using it as a loophole So I want us to do a deep dive into mental health Shannon and
y'all
That is our time.
That is our time.
And the word of the day is from Ida B. Wells, the journalist who risks her life to document lynchings when nobody else would.
She said it like this.
The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.
All right?
Ida B. Wells, y'all.
That's our time.
Don't go anywhere, Shannon.
Tell the people, I mean take us home!
I wanna talk
