Knuth Brew Talk · Fri Oct 2, 2026

Ladies

and gentlemen, is that time of the week when we trade in our coffee for an ice-cold canooth brew?

Well, and it has to be Mars and

Oktoberfest.

Is this the first one off the bottling line?

This week, yeah.

But we've been selling it all

my life.

Yeah, you've had it a while.

I know you bottle on, what is

it, Wednesdays?

Wednesdays usually, yeah.

This week we did Tuesday and Wednesday though.

Well, you're a busy guy.

We're a busy guy and it's October Fest week the best week of the year decorations are hung the beer is brewed Who does

now we just need the people

yours truly

really?

Yeah, there's a couple fall leaves hanging in the branch

No, I will admit

cheers

I Get a little carried away going on the decorations for October Fest.

I'm not a big decoration guy, but I get

Get a kick out of October Fest.

I have so much fun.

So We're we're doing it upstairs this year.

Okay, so we've got at the big beer hall So there's a lot of area to to decorate I would imagine so I had to buy some more stuff and I think it looks pretty good.

We've got like

The first half where the band looks really good, you know, it's hard to do the whole thing.

But then we've got downstairs, too, which you got to make that look good.

When you say stuff, what's your decor consistent?

Well, my favorite, actually, is a friend of mine.

He's a picker.

Right.

So he's

like an antique guy.

And so he goes to these estate sales and he buys, he'll buy like an estate or a garage or, you know, like, and you just kind of like, when you watch, uh,

the storage,

people

crack it open, they take,

you take your chance on, uh, what you end up with.

And so he gave me the, I mean, these things look like they're from the 1930s.

They were unopened.

um a package of these like uh figurines and stines like card or paper paper kind of card stocky

cutouts.

Yeah.

It's a pin on, you know, like, so the old fashioned like just and, and my daughter, nine year old Charlotte was helping me last night and I pulled those out and I was like, all right, Charlie, you can put these up and she looks at them and she says, dad, what

the heck are these?

You're not worried about old Carl spinning Edna into them on a polka after a few.

Well, what's really

funny is one of them is a guy in a hat with the.

with the liter hose and everything.

And Charlie says, dad, this is you.

It kind of looks like me if

I was a cartoon.

So that's probably my favorite decoration.

But we do a lot of the blue and white triangle flag things

on the string.

That's low.

Low cost, high impact

kind of thing.

And then we'll hang some flags.

No pumpkins.

No pumpkins.

No pumpkins.

If

my wife was decorating, there'd probably be pumpkins.

Yeah.

You should do a pumpkin carving up

there.

That could get interesting.

Well, we do have a new thing this year.

So we've got a lot of things going on.

We've got a steinholding.

That'll take place at four o'clock.

We've got the stone throwing with the masons in the brewery.

That's the hundred pound for the men's and 40 pounds for the women

So explain that how did they land on the ground?

You

just you pick it up and it's kind of like the shop put but there's no rules really You just can't cross the line and you just throw it as far as you can

some like a bean big it's a

big medicine ball

essentially yeah, okay,

and so

That'll take place in the brewery.

Some guys go over the head.

Some people just, you know, just hold it.

And then we have prizes for all this.

And for the stone throwing, we do actually have the shortest prize or a worst throw.

and you get a free growler for that.

But you have to give effort.

You've got to give effort though, yeah.

Last year we had this 75 year old guy, he picked it up and just dropped it

down.

Smart.

So he's smart.

He's wise, you know.

That's

like ice fishing contest, so someone pulls out a minnow from their minnow bucket for the smallest fish.

Right.

So we got the stone throwing, we got the stein holding at four.

Carol and the keynotes will start things off at noon upstairs.

All the bands are gonna be upstairs this year They'll play noon to three and then Tom Schneider of the two-fifths party band will take the stage around 430

and they'll play till 7.30 or so.

We'll have Hammerschlagen in the beer garden.

We'll have big brewery playoff game.

So

we'll have that on the TVs and we're setting up

the big TV outside in the beer garden.

So we'll have the Badgers and the, and the brewers, depending on what time the games are.

Like,

well, for sure, we have brewers.

I don't

think we know when the brewers are playing it.

Do we hear that?

I'm not

sure.

Yeah.

I

know

we didn't yesterday.

Maybe I'll have to check.

It's on one of our sister stations, but I know the Badgers kickoff at 11 30

tomorrow.

So lots to do.

Weather looks great.

But we have a new thing that I'm kind of excited about.

It's a new drink called the Bear Hunter.

OK.

And

what it is is you can call it a herring deck or a German boiler maker is essentially what

it is.

Yeah.

So we're bringing in, I found,

I got this idea actually from Tom Schneider.

We just did an interview with him.

It's on our Facebook page.

You can check it out or our YouTube channel.

We did a 45 minute conversation about Oktoberfest.

And so he's the lead singer of our two fifths party band.

So we talk polkas.

His dad is Jerry Schneider, the legendary polka man.

Jerry

Schneider, so kind of like Tuba Dan.

Exactly, yep.

on the other side of the pond,

on the other side of

Winnebago.

So he was telling me a story.

They went to Germany, and he's been there a number of times, but one time, his most fun time was they were at this bar, or a tavern, and they had one kind of beer, and they're drinking beer, and then the lady, she was so happy, because they had a big tour bus full, and they brought it, you know?

She was so happy, she was walking around, and she had schnapps, and she was passing out schnapps shots.

and so and but he said it's like that's like a german thing like

it's

traditional so so i found this um it's called a bearing jeger and it's a honey liqueur and it used to be used it's an old german heritage recipe it used to be used by bear hunters and they would use this honey

to

bait their bear traps.

Yeah,

exactly.

And then, you know, this time of year in the winter time, it tends to get a little cooler.

So they'd maybe have a little snort and warm up.

And so now

now we so I found this stuff.

We're bringing it in.

It's it's it's delicious.

It's it's a honey liqueur.

And we're going to do the German bear hunter boiler makers.

You're not worried about bears.

No, no, no, no.

But, you know, we got signs up.

And have you heard the joke about the

the bear who robbed the bank.

No, the grizzly bear walked into the bank and, you know, he's all looking mean.

He's got his rifle and says, put your hands up.

And the teller puts his hands up and the bear cowers down.

How'd you get so tall?

Everything kicks off at what time again

doors open at 11 first band starts at noon Oh, and of course we've got the famous wood fire jumbo beer brats.

There you go Cheers cheers everybody.

Happy October fest
