Oopsville: 100 Days of Chaos

John & Gordy · Thu May 1, 2025

From the depths of a digital abyss, where truth drowns in a sea of clickbait and algorithms, a beacon ignites.

From the heart of Badgerland, from our studios on State Street in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, it's John and Gordy on 92.7

WMDX.

Incredible incredible day of topics a lot of idiocracy to fill the airwaves with I Wish we had more time here an extra hour, but I could use an extra hour

extra

hour Well, yeah, I

do really

I do so much preparation that I hate to waste all the preparation that I put into this program

I have all of these clips.

Well, not all of these clips.

I think I have two or three clips broken up where Rachel Maddow listed all of the bad, stupid mistakes and things that happened in the first 100 days.

Now, I heard Maggie Dawn talking about she put her own list together and she was narrating it herself.

But I love the way Maddow does it.

So I was going to play

this,

so everybody got a taste and a feel.

I wanted CJ and I wanted my mega friend in Milwaukee to hear it, that it isn't running smoothly and not well, and it's almost a disaster to watch.

So, you know, I wanted to play that stuff.

I haven't...

Really played anything so Well,

we'll make time for

today.

I'm starting to get a little nervous Maybe you guys are phasing me out and you know, I'm just not gonna play any of my clips anymore

Well, that may be

true, but you know, I

wouldn't worry about it.

All right.

All right Well, that's a

great assurance.

Thank you.

Well, good morning and happy May Day to you May 1st.

Well, May Day is It's a warning.

It's like an emergency.

It's an emergency thing.

That's John Peterson

Gordon Young producer Sam is raring to go.

It's raining outside.

It is.

Big time.

I didn't expect that.

I suppose I should

have.

Did you not listen to the

forecast?

Well, I don't expect rain.

I don't think it's going to rain, so I see it.

Even if it's in the weather forecast, it's always a surprise to me.

Yeah, so much

for April showers bring May flowers.

Yeah.

It's not supposed to rain at all in May, right?

Well, I don't know.

I don't know.

Well, if you go by that, say, only if you live by things.

Yeah, it's we got some pretty good showers.

That habit there, Sam.

Looks like we'll see rain off and on today.

And currently at the WMDX weather window outside the window, the WMDX thermometer says 48 degrees.

It does.

Yeah.

What is your WMDX Samsung watch say?

Well,

I'm glad you've asked me that question.

Yeah.

because

I'm really prepared for that.

48 degrees currently

and

54

is the predicted high temperature.

All right, well, let's roll the weather roulette wheel and see what the wheel has to say about it.

Okay.

For the afternoon high today.

Yeah, I think it'll stay on the cool side.

Here it goes.

Red 56.

Red 56.

All right.

Scoring at home.

All right, you're using a lip balm in there, aren't you?

Well, yeah, my lips get chapped.

They could try.

So is that a chapstick you may have found on the ground?

No.

Why would I

use chapstick?

Because you seem to scrounge around in the back alleys of Madison and dumpsters.

You're finding mattresses and ping-pong tables.

I found it in a couch.

OK,

I

can't lie that I've never dumpster-dived for food.

But I wouldn't use the same chapstick that I found in the dumpster.

Wait, you've gotten food out of a dumpster, really?

Yeah, because I saw who put it in there, and

I knew

them.

It was at work.

It was when I worked

at a food place.

Made its way into the dumpster, and you took it out.

It was a

clean bag, Gordy.

It's okay.

Oh,

man,

okay.

I'm still here.

I'm still alive.

Well, just barely.

I know you're leaving in a month.

But here's the thing.

There was a center and eye bit.

about somebody finding chapstick.

And then, you know, they're standing out in front of a business.

Do you don't remember the chapstick bit?

And then the guy's using it.

And then standing there, they're on the, you know, as to the sidewalk waiting for a bus or something.

And

then

somebody stands next to him and says, hey, can I use your chapstick?

Really?

And then another person walks over, hey.

Yeah, got the chapstick.

Did I try it?

We'll have to dig

that

one out.

That is a classic set in an alive bid.

It's just unbelievable, and it's gross.

It's just gross.

You know the movie Elf?

Sure.

The scene in the movie Elf where, buddy, he picks the gum off the bottom of a railing and

tries it out.

He's

static about how good it tastes.

That was a great movie.

Yeah, really, a Christmas classic.

Yeah, absolutely.

Well, let's get to the National Day calendar for this very first day of May.

What do you say?

Well, sure.

Forced to be excited.

Is it or is it not National Investing Day?

Is it National School Principles Day?

Is it National Music in the Schools Day?

National Chocolate Parfait Day?

National Mother Goose Day?

National Loyalty Day.

What day does not belong, John Peters?

Not National Superintendent Principles Day.

Well, you're wrong.

It is National School Principles Day.

Sam, do you care to take a guess?

I'm a

little worried about the idea of it being Loyalty Day.

Who

are we being loyal

to?

Is that your answer?

Sure, yeah.

Um, you're wrong as well.

Oh,

man.

Oh, yikes.

Is that something that Trump put in place?

Well, we'll find out.

Uh, it's not national music in the school's day.

Uh, that might be some other day, but it's not today.

Okay.

All right.

Let's, uh, go back up top here.

It's not just Tim

Slicker

about that.

Why don't we have a national music in the school's day?

Tim will be joining us in just about a half hour, but, uh,

We want to ask him about that Supreme Court case, right?

The one about Catholic schools?

Yes, Catholic charter schools.

Charter

schools, yeah.

That was a big case that got some news yesterday.

Anyway, it is National Investing Day.

You've got a lot of investments in the markets, don't you, John?

You've got stocks, bonds, you know, you're a day trader.

Well, you know, I'm rolling in cash.

You're Mr. Big Shot.

Big cigars and motorcars.

That's John Peterson.

I'll be wearing a top hat and monocles.

Get the cane.

It's National Investing Day, encouraging people to dedicate at least one day in the year to explore how they can get invested and stay invested for strong financial futures.

It would be a good day to do that as the stock market continues to take dives every two or three days.

Whether you're setting aside your first $100 or managing a growth portfolio,

This day is about getting involved, so check it out.

You know, talk to your broker today, I guess.

Okay.

And your financial advisor.

All right.

Let's see, National School Principles Day.

You were doubting that this was today, but it is.

And it's a reminder to take time to say thank you to the educational leaders who look after your children every day, after all they guide academic success and set the tone for the entire school.

Yeah.

Principles are some of the hardest working, yet can be the most underappreciated people in the education system.

Or underappreciated people.

You guys get

sent to the principal's

office a lot as a kid?

Two or three times.

Just once.

I got suspended for using the car at lunch.

Really?

It was a ban on using cars for luck.

Really?

I said the

principal's car or what do you mean?

If that would be.

It took a random car.

That'd be cool.

Where did you drive to just out for

a one set day?

I went home.

I didn't bother eating lunch at schools.

And I was accused of doing wheelies or something.

Wheelies?

What?

Well, patching out

in front of somebody's house.

Peeling out?

OK.

and it was a stationway, a Rambler station wagon, so no, that didn't happen.

I

don't know what these people were thinking, you know, and I took all the greasers out to the nearest shopping center.

They knew I was going and then they picked up on it and everybody asked for a ride.

I

became the friend of the greasers in her school.

Yeah, and it was kind of fun and everything, but

I

got suspended.

And because I was a good kid and all that kind of stuff, the teacher did not send me home or give me any time off, which... I mean,

is that really a suspension then?

Did

you get a detention?

No,

it wasn't a detention.

Not even a detention.

It's National Chocolate Parfait Day.

You like chocolate parfaits?

I love them.

It's kind of, you know... They're hard to resist.

Yeah, well, they're hard to make.

The delicious layers of chocolate cream and more chocolate, sweetly stacked together, is enough to make us skip lunch and go straight to the dessert, chocolate parfaits.

I think people eat too fast now, to actually put all that time into

making those layers, yeah.

Okay.

I bet you are a

big fan of the Jell-O molds with the vegetables

in it.

The fruit, Jell-O salad.

Oh, God.

They tortured us with those as we were kids, yep.

I don't know if I mentioned National Mother Goose Day, but it is that

today.

Yeah, okay.

Let's see Mother Goose Tales.

Let's see when those those started way back late 17th century Elizabeth Foster Goose a lot of a lot of very very dark tales Not good outcomes.

Yeah, she was a widow.

She moved into

with their oldest daughter and started telling these tales.

That makes sense.

Okay.

They always killed and roasted kids.

Wow.

Yeah, mother goose.

I guess it goes back even further let's see 1695 there were some books that had all some of these

tales

I mean tales of torture

stealing

kids

yeah

yeah good things to put kids to sleep with wolves eating kids which is yeah national loyalty day does it have something to do with the great orange king no I don't think so

Since 1955 every US president has proclaimed May 1st as a day to call on Americans to raise their flags Oh, no, you're kidding me pray and so the president

on their heritage

presidents have

endorsed this day since

1955

I'm sad that a Democrat would do something like this.

This is a little

authoritarian Well, 1955 of Eisenhower was president back then so I didn't

seem like he would promote something like

that,

but I guess he did

Let's see.

First observe, oh wait, it goes even further.

Let's see, we dig back into it.

Sure.

First observed in 1921 as Americanization Day, National Loyalty Day, counterbalance the Communist celebration of Labor Day on May Day.

Hmm.

Okay.

Wow, communism.

Wow.

Rears it's ugly heading.

So you know that.

To

the actual holiday, they were like.

We want to have a holiday on May 1st, too.

We feel left out.

So it was President Dwight Eisenhower.

He proclaimed it on 1959, even though they started it occasionally, you know, further back.

They actually made a holiday, but observance day on 1959.

May 1st.

Yeah.

Did we talk about this last year?

I

don't know.

I don't remember talking about this particular

day last year.

I don't remember what happened 10 days ago.

I think

withholding days here.

Next year, there'll be a different day that they withhold this year.

Perhaps

so.

OK, we got a minute and a half left.

Sam, do you want to open up the history book?

Oh, it's so dusty.

OK, well,

do whatever you want.

Yeah.

It's up to you.

Why are you

leaving it up to

me?

Whatever you think.

Okay, open the book.

Just get on with it.

Some of it's coming in here.

Ventilation in there is awful.

There is

no ventilation,

Gordy.

No, there isn't.

There's no fresh air.

Oh, man.

It's so dusty.

I don't know how that book gets so dusty every day.

Yeah, I do.

So I remember we

talked about this thing in the history book.

Are we even going to have time or is John just

going to last his way to the break?

I

don't know.

Go ahead, Sam.

Do it.

Go ahead.

I could read this text from Mark, if you want.

Yeah, let's

hang on with the history.

What does Mark say?

Lindsey Graham says, Trump should be pulp.

I thought being Catholic was a prerequisite for the job, as well as knowing something about faith.

But no, not really.

And the commies stole Labor Day from laborers.

Yeah, see?

Mark knows his history.

It is almost 20 past the hour coming right back.

WMDX.

Johnny Gordy in the morning, 92.7 on your FM dial, and it's a great song.

You know, that is so, so Keith Richards.

Yeah, it is.

It really is.

It's 623, 48 degrees, rain showers today through much of the day, and high around 56 degrees.

We were getting into the history books.

When I was so rudely interrupted by John just busting out laughing.

Well, do you need to reopen the book

again?

No, thank God.

Yeah, do you want to open that up again?

I already opened the book.

Okay.

I've got my dose of asbestos for today.

Who would have thought?

that who would have thought to cover a book in asbestos like this, or whatever this gigantic layer of dust is on the

cover?

Well, we had a big conference on it, and we spitballed that for a while.

You did it to me.

You did it to me.

Yes, exactly.

That's why I was laughing.

Oh, that's right.

Well, today in 1840, I remember we talked about this last year, because it was news to me.

Oh, God.

Today in 1840 the UK they issued their very first prepaid postage stamps and What was news to me last year was that when you guys were young you still had to lick a stamp in order to stick it on a page Yeah,

wasn't

that long ago that day.

Well, I've never known anything besides self-adhesive Really peel it off and stick it on like a

star.

Okay.

Well, that's crazy Yeah,

but the thing that I thought was funny about

the UK and their prepaid postage.

Prior to 1840, you had post-paid postage, where the receiver had to, like, literally pay the mailman whenever they got a letter.

Yeah, that's right.

That was kind

of

weird.

Yeah, that was in the early days of John Peterson.

You were around in the 40s, the 1840s?

1840s, yeah.

Remember like it was yesterday.

Today in 1924, iodized salt went on sale for the first time.

Yeah, there you go.

The article I was reading, they called...

Michigan specifically, I don't know why they were singling out Michigan, the goiter belt, because people didn't get enough iodine in their diet.

That's right.

There's a big issue with that.

Goiter belt.

Yeah.

Oh, my God.

I

understand it also helps keep or retain the color of your hair.

That's what I've read someplace.

Salt?

Yeah.

Oh, I know.

The iodine.

The iodine.

The iodide.

The iodide.

Yeah, yeah,

yeah.

Okay.

And I

died.

Yeah, I think I died as poisonous.

I'm not

pretty sure.

But anyway.

Why would they name them so similarly?

I don't know.

Yes.

We got some labor history on May day today.

1926 Ford, they implemented the 40 hour work week.

1926.

Yeah.

It wasn't a completely new thing, but at that time in the 20s, the majority of Americans were still working like 12-ish hour days.

They were working more than.

eight hours a day.

I'm surprised that hasn't been proposed yet.

What, longer hours going back to that?

Yeah, it's all, are you

kidding me?

Sure, they're looking at slave labor, child labor.

Well, I think radio never really adapted to the radio.

No,

it never did, no.

Today in 1960, the U2 spy plane incident.

The Soviets shot down an American spy plane.

Gary Powers.

Yeah.

We tried to cover it up.

I thought it was funny.

It happened two weeks before there was supposed to be an East and West summit in Paris, and it was such a national embarrassment to the United States that we decided to cancel it.

That was a big deal, actually.

That spy plane being shot down

in Russia.

I

remember

that.

Oh, do you?

Number ten.

That was a big time.

Anything else you ever you ever ridden an Amtrak train?

Oh, sure.

Mm-hmm Amtrak began service on this day in 1971 I've never rid I don't think I've ever ridden a train outside of like okay, I guess one time one time I have ridden like a city tramway when I was in San Francisco Outside of that the only train that I think I've ridden was at Disney World

If that counts.

Well,

that counts,

kind

of.

Kind of,

yeah.

Amtrak stations in Milwaukee and up in Portage and the Dells.

Right.

Goes

that way.

But not Madison.

Why would they run through Portage and not Madison?

You can go to North

Freedom at the train museum.

And I think they

have train rides in

the

summer.

The Midcontinent Railway Museum.

Yeah, they do have train

rides.

Where's

that at?

It's in North Freedom.

Wisconsin,

just

look

it

up.

Go up to

Baraboo and take a left.

Go about 10 miles.

It's out there in the country.

They have a cool

little binder up

there.

It's really nice.

It's very cool.

My

daughter used to work there.

And they have old trains and they work and they do like an eight mile run around Rock Springs

and

North Freedom.

Are

we talking like steam trains?

No, they don't

do

steam.

I'm a big sucker for steam trains.

They have quite a collection of old trains.

and train cars.

Yeah, they

do

events.

We went up there for the Santa train.

Oh, sure.

They had a little celebration.

OK.

Yeah, they

do

that.

And it's tough.

And they do... It's not easy to get into those trains during sub-zero weather.

Right.

They are a little different.

It's like going into an ice box.

And I remember changing a diaper.

outside the train car.

Really?

Yes.

It was just your diaper or somebody else.

Yeah, it was somebody else's diaper.

I changed diapers for other people's kids.

Yeah, they have train rides in the fall

to

look at the fall

foliage.

It's great stuff.

I took a train ride from

Milwaukee.

Foliage.

Foliage.

Thank you.

Yeah, Milwaukee to Green Bay.

I took a train ride.

Yeah.

I love that

stuff.

Trains are a lot

of fun.

Yeah.

They didn't like me on that train though.

I was swinging a sword around.

I was into Zorro at the time and I had a sword and I went up and down the aisles swinging that thing around and these people were really worried about getting hit by that sword.

But I love the train rides.

I just love trains.

Big times.

Yeah.

It's

29 past the hour.

OK, well, cut me off now.

Well, you want to wax poetically.

No, I'm not going to wax poetically.

OK.

Coming up in just a few moments, we've got Rachel Maddow.

And she's got a list of all of the problems encountered in the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

And it's just

part one.

So we'll take a listen to that.

Tim will not be here today for Busted Pencils.

We'll be back with

more of John and Gordy in just a few

minutes.

As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point, a dumbing down, until humanity was incapable of solving even its most basic problems.

This is grade A weapons grade stupidity.

Just doing my civic duties.

We can duck and cover.

There's a fall each other right there.

There's no way to survive this, you idiot!

Idiocracy.

For the smartest guy in the world, you're pretty dumb sometimes.

Well, let's talk about how dumb they are most of the time.

First 100 days of the Trump administration, outrageous and ridiculous.

This is WMDX 92.7, John and Gordy in the morning, but holding off on this, I put so much work into this.

Yeah.

But yeah, I have to shorten these segments up just a little bit.

Rachel Maddow did a review of all of the mistakes in the first 100 days.

So I had to split it up and take some of the extra stuff out.

That's

a lot of extra work for you.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well,

let me just mention at this point in the program that it's 40.

You

know, we all feel for you.

I get it.

It is a lot of

work.

I know.

I'm looking for sympathy.

We

got rain showers this morning, John.

48 degrees, highs in the mid 50s.

This portion of the show is brought to you by our friends at Verlo mattress of Madison.

One thing that remains a constant since they opened their doors way back in 1958.

They are still direct to consumer and provide superior products at unbeatable prices.

They have two locations in Madison, the east side and the west side.

and you can check them out online at Virlo.com.

Okay.

All right.

Well, that sounds fantastic and always look for those adjustable bed frames.

Yeah, ask

for them.

Ask to get a demonstration.

Tell them John Peterson sent you.

That's right.

I'll get another crop.

All right.

Okay, let's get to our first segment.

We probably won't have time for the second one because that's a long one.

I have to split that one up.

We did a

lot of extra work on those.

Sure did.

Sure did.

Give me credit.

Okay.

Where credit is due.

All right.

Here is the first segment of Rachel Mano taking a look in the past.

The first 100 days of the Trump administration, all the problems that they might have experienced.

Let's check it out.

In fact, we all experienced it.

Let's go with it.

Do you

remember the first big surprise destroy the government thing that he did right after the inauguration?

He sent out a White House memo ordering the freezing of all federal funding, all federal grants.

Less than 48 hours, oops, had to take that back.

Headline, Trump White House rescins memo freezing federal grants after widespread confusion and legal challenges, quote, President Donald Trump's budget office on Wednesday rescinded a memo freezing spending.

So it was kind of the first big thing he did.

And then they immediately had to take that back.

And then right on the heels of that, you remember this one when they accidentally put somebody in charge of the FBI, who they didn't mean to?

quote, White House officials goofed on the White House website.

You don't see the word goofed in the Wall Street Journal all the time.

White House officials goofed on the White House website and listed the wrong man in charge of the FBI.

People familiar with the matter said, instead of correcting the error, White House officials let it stand.

Immediately after that, oops, turns out they accidentally put the names of hundreds of CIA officers in an unclassified email.

That same day, we learned that Trump has accidentally made it impossible for the Postal Service to accept mail from China.

Oops!

By then, the president's top campaign donor was working his bizarre magic in Washington, so we got the accidental firing of the National Nuclear Security Agency, which handles the safe transportation storage assembly and dismantling of our nation's nuclear weapons.

Oops!

Trump administration fires and then tries to rehire nuclear weapons workers in Doge reversal.

Then this was the very next day.

Headlines, New York Times.

Doge claimed it saved eight billion dollars in one contract.

It was actually eight million dollars.

But you know, don't forget, these are the smart guys, smart kids.

Next day, headline, agriculture department tries to rehire fired workers tied to bird flu response.

Oops, we accidentally fired all the bird flu people in the middle of the bird flu.

Oops, can we get them back?

That same day.

Headline, Trump administration reverses plan to end free COVID test program.

The taxpayers bought all these COVID tests, perfectly good COVID tests.

They're still COVID.

People are still testing for COVID to see if they have COVID.

But because the Trump administration doesn't like COVID, they're gonna what?

Incinerate millions of tests?

Of perfectly good tests?

So Americans instead have to buy more of them?

No, not seriously, reverse that one too.

This was also that same day.

This is a big day in Oopsville.

Headline, Trump administration reverses its previous decision and reinstates legal aid for migrant children.

Yeah, it turns out babies don't make great lawyers.

Yeah, they've reversed that too.

They have since tried again to take away the lawyers for babies and little kids in court after this initial reversal.

So this one actually remains a live issue.

Two days later, oops, we accidentally cut the program that helps the 9-11 first responders.

Did we mean to do that?

I think we did mean to do that, but we certainly can't defend it now that people are asking us to defend it, so that one gets reversed too.

Then...

Trump's top campaign donor, Elon Musk, tries on the federal government the same thing he did to destroy the company, Twitter.

He sends out the, what did you do last week email, insisting that anybody who doesn't immediately respond to that email will instantly be fired from the federal government, no exceptions.

Headline, federal agencies can ignore what did you do last week email, Trump administration says.

Then this is the following day, we get news from the VA.

Where Trump has cut things like, oh, I don't know, little liberal woke programs like cancer treatment and support for veterans with cancer and burial services for veterans.

Trump cut burial services for veterans?

Really?

Yeah, for a hot minute until people freaked out.

And so yeah, he reversed that too.

Next headline, VA contract cancellations halted in major reversal.

Maybe at this point they're getting a little shy about screwing up so much, about having to take back and try to undo all these things that they're messing up.

No, they're just getting warmed up.

We got this headline, Elon Musk admits Doge accidentally eliminated prevention measures combating Ebola virus.

Oops.

The next day, headline, Trump administration reverses course after putting veterans crisis line hires on hold.

There you go.

There's

more, right?

There's another six-minute segment, which I will split up, but it hasn't been an overly successful administration so far.

The list goes on and on and on.

But they're all big things.

They're very big things.

And in the thing, it's a scatter shot of getting rid of programs that they need, or people need, or they would have at least thought a few seconds about and

said, you

know, this sounds like something we should keep.

We shouldn't do anything about.

Right.

I mean, it's hard to wrap your head around getting rid of all of these very important things just willy-nilly, you know, instead of somebody seriously contemplating, well, this sounds like a bad thing to do during the bird flu and get rid of the researchers for taking care of bird flu.

When

it just jumps out.

Yeah, it really does.

You know, really, I mean, come

on.

Yeah.

You know, and COVID, I mean...

It's just it's going on and on yes,

and they're not stopping destroy the COVID test because they didn't think well It was actually a Biden plot.

Oh take down the economy Yeah, so they're gonna get rid of all the COVID tests instead But of course now they're letting everybody get free COVID tests in the mail.

Mm-hmm.

Yep It's just again mine.

There's nothing responsible being done by this administration nothing is thought out they just

take a shot at something, get rid of it, and, you know, take it back if they have to.

Yeah, nothing is off

limits.

Just go to wmdxradio.com to find out more.

Wmdxradio.com.

Seems like an empty week without that newsletter.

Exactly.

It's always really good.

No, it

is.

Yeah, all right.

You got something to say, Gordy?

I don't know.

Someday, one of these days, I will write an editorial.

Yeah,

I thought you were going to do that.

And it will be in the

newsletter.

Why don't you write for the newsletter?

Yeah.

Well, maybe someday.

All right,

why don't we put it

on your list of things to

do?

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, thanks.

Yeah, thank.

All right.

Well, hey, you know, not a lot has been going on well with the Trump administration, right?

And and the economy is tanking badly.

Let's queue up to 42.

It is actually on the list underneath the Tim's slacker stuff.

All right.

So let's get to this.

This is, you know, Britt Hume.

Oh, yeah, I remember him.

He was with ABC for many years,

and he went over to

Fox.

Fox and destroyed his career.

Right, destroyed his career, became very right-leaning.

And now, as it becomes older and older and older, grumpier sound, and he sounds more authoritative.

So anyway, let's listen to Brett Hume talk about Trump being underwater.

Well, a couple things.

There's a list of issues that we ask people what they've felt about, and the president is underwater in all but one, and that one is the border.

where he's got high approval on that.

Majority approval, he's above water.

Everything else, including immigration, which for some reason was separated from the border in this particular poll, he's a little bit underwater on immigration.

He's way down on, right at the moment on the economy, and even way down further on tariffs, which are, of course, part of that.

So, you know, foreign policy, rating isn't good, and so on.

My thought about this is this is not really unexpected in my view, Brett.

His overall approval rating, as you noted earlier, is 44%.

So much of what he's undertaken remains a work in progress.

They haven't got any trade deals yet.

The tariffs are out there and people are worried about them and don't like them.

They don't know how that's going to play out.

We don't know how the foreign policy endeavors are going to pan out.

We don't have peace between Ukraine and Russia, which he promised.

So there's a lot of work to be completed, which if done successfully, I think would dramatically elevate his current

pool.

If these things could only improve,

then his ratings would improve.

The long list I just gave you accidentally here on Fox News.

I'm sorry about that.

I know Trump is watching right now.

Please, please don't kill me.

Oh boy, that is crazy stuff.

Let's talk briefly about the Supreme Court.

They were talking about allowing a Catholic charter school.

And the problem with this whole idea is that, you know, suddenly we as taxpayers will be paying for religious teachings, religious schools.

I mean, this is in a front of the whole thing.

I know that they get in on what are the schooling, you know.

But they're but now they wanted to have their own separate charters for Catholic schools for Lutheran schools Eleni Kagan said this there'll be a line out the door of religious groups seeking to establish their own

publicly funded charter schools if you can do this consistent with your religious belief.

So we'll be teaching, these are Sunday schools essentially.

And we'll be paying for them as taxpayers and we shouldn't object to this I would think.

We will be back with more on that on John and Gordy.

Radio MDX 92.7 John and Gordy

in the morning.

652 rain showers today off and on and temperatures pretty cool to start things out.

We'll get into the mid fifties later on today about 56 degrees.

Phone lines are open if you want to join in 608-879-8255.

Call us or text us on the Civic Media

app.

I think I saw a pee we out in the street.

Yeah.

Shows he out

there shouting something.

Yeah, I couldn't quite open the window next time he passed.

Oh wait.

There he is.

Yeah

All

right, let's get back to your umbrella with you to work today check your windshield wipers

Let's get back to this big case before the Supreme Court Catholic schools turning their own schools

and

getting paid by

taxpayers come on no one wants this right the Oklahoma Supreme Court blocked this Catholic school from joining the state charter program so they can't do it so it went to the Supreme Court

yeah

and we have the deep thinkers on the Supreme Court like Brett Kavanaugh okay and this was this is what he said all religious school is saying is don't

exclude us on account of our religion.

OK.

Well, that's the reason why it shouldn't be funded by taxpayers.

Oh, God, this guy is awful.

And he says it seems like rank discrimination against religion.

Oh, sure.

That must be it.

No, no, taxpayers aren't supposed to be paying for religion.

Right.

We're not

supposed to be

endorsing a religion.

Exactly.

That would be endorsing a religion.

I would think anyway.

And as I mentioned, Elana Kagan said there will be a line outside the door of religious groups seeking to establish from publicly funded charter schools.

If you can do this consistent with your religious beliefs, why not, right?

John, why don't you start a religion and then you can start a school and get all this public money some money.

Don't I was

careful.

Why didn't I think of

that?

Damn That's not too late.

All right.

Well anyway Justice Amy

Coney Barrett recused herself.

Why?

So now

the split

is 4-4.

So if Justice Roberts decides, then it will decide one way or another whether this will be allowed in the country.

Did you say why she

recused herself?

Because she went to Notre Dame maybe?

I don't know.

It doesn't say here, but if it were 4-4, then it would affirm the Oklahoma Supreme Court decision banning it.

from joining the charter system.

All right, so we'll see what Justice Roberts decides on this when they finally decide the case.

This is crazy stuff,

though.

Yeah, it is.

Isn't it?

Yeah.

Well, yeah.

I can't I it's just We don't know what they're gonna decide.

No, so it's I mean,

yeah

It's for

grabs.

It seemed like at least for the justices were definitely on the side of allowing religious charter schools and taxpayers paying for it Why can't we complain about it?

You know a lot of Megas they don't want to pay for this that and the other thing because well, you know that we shouldn't pay for that You know

Here we have an instant where now liberals, Democrats and progressives have to pay for the right wing endorsement of religion by our government.

That is...

Listen, John, you know the Snopes trial, the very famous teaching evolution trial back in the 1920s.

That case failed and they could keep teaching creationism all the way up until the 60s.

I forget what state it was in, but it was less than 60 years ago or so that started teaching evolution and all that time the public schools, publicly funded schools were still teaching religion.

We can go back to that.

Why not bring that back?

All right, we cut so many other.

So many other topics here.

Let's get to Robert Wolfe.

He has been making the rounds.

He's on Fox News quite a bit, but he's all over the place and all the different networks.

And he's talking about the crisis that we have with the economy.

And

I thought we'd play this cut.

He said this actually on Fox News about the manufacturing crisis we have in this country.

I

don't know, Robert, some of the people we talked to say incompetence, probably the wrong word, unclear, might be a better word.

What do you say?

I mean, this, I've been in finance for 40 years.

This is probably the biggest manufactured crisis I've seen with a bunch of enforced errors.

The execution of Liberation Day was pathetic.

I mean, you have Kevin Hassett in 2019 be very clear, trade war is a bad trap, tariffs are tax, Steve Moore, another Trump advisor.

trade wars are bad, tariffs are taxed, the GOP, tariffs are taxed, trade wars are bad, we're for free trade.

You saw April until, for the most part, the president blinked both on Fed Chairman Powell, which I'm glad, as well as the China trade war.

Then the markets recovered somewhat, but it was on for the worst month since 1932.

And that's not even considering what's going on with bonds, where there has been an incredible lack of confidence in the U.S.

dollar and U.S.

investments.

All right.

Yeah, it's incredible.

Manufacturing.

The CEO of GM, Mary Mara, said these tariffs are going to cost the company up to $5 billion this year.

$5 billion.

Wow.

I mean, that's it, right?

It's costing everybody a lot of money.

We were going to talk to Tim Slicker about how a lot of these schools are canceling, upgrading, and school renovations that they have planned out.

and they passed referendums for, but now they have to put it on hold because they don't know the cost of what those renovations will be because of the cost of the materials being used.

They're also putting off buying new school buses.

Because of that as well, they can't predict what those buses are going to cost.

The list goes on and

on.

Yeah, I mean, it just throws

everybody into a limbo.

And I think Walmart and Target said the shelves are going to start backing up in the supply chain in the next two weeks.

That's

right.

Yes.

So get out there.

So that's why my wife went out and bought all the products you could.

Excellent.

OK.

It is six fifty nine after the news.

Did I tell you I'm broke more.

John and

Gordy.

Stay with us.

Hello, I'm Hank Hills.

Uh, guys, we gotta talk.

I've got a situation here.

You know, I've been thinking, and I realized you don't have any goals.

It's like you got a problem with concentration.

Sometimes you just don't listen.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

We need some new material.

Get back to work.

It seems like the same material over and over and over.

It's the same problem just a little different each time.

Every day.

WMD

asks John Gordy in the morning.

It is seven minutes past the hour rain showers to start this first day of May, 48 degrees currently and high in the mid fifties this afternoon.

And, John, this portion of the show is brought to us by Verlo Mattress of Madison, one thing that remains constant since 1958.

They are still direct to consumer and provide superior products at unbeatable prices.

Check them out on the east side of Madison or the west side.

and you can go to their website anytime and also check into their lifetime comfort guarantee at furlough.com.

Yeah, the big news was the press conference Trump had and it didn't go well.

Press conference?

Well, you know, he had a press conference about the economy.

He was talking about how well the economy is doing currently.

But he decided because it wasn't doing well to blame Joe Biden for everything.

And let's let's play cut six here.

And this is Trump explaining this to the reporters in the room.

Let's listen.

The stock market in this case is it says how bad a situation.

We inherited.

I took place.

This is a quarter that we looked at today.

Oh boy.

And I took, we took all of us together.

We came in on January 20th.

So this is Biden.

And you can even say the next quarter is sort of Biden because it doesn't just happen on a daily or not only basis.

This is Biden.

Did you hear him say that?

I heard him say this is Biden.

Yeah.

This quarter and probably next.

Probably the next one.

Let's cover that one.

Let's cover our ass right away on that one.

Well, you know, there was a reporter out there listening to all of that and he, uh, he was ready for this.

He wasn't going to be fooled by any of this.

This is cut eight.

So let's listen to this very smart reporter from the independence.

Okay.

The transition, sir, you frequently took credit for the stock market highs.

You said it was a reflection of how well you were doing in the polls.

And then after you elected, you said the stock market highs were a reflection of how well the transition is going and the American people's confidence in your incoming administration.

Now, the stock market is not doing so well, and you're saying that's the Biden stock market, yet you are the President.

Can you explain that?

I'm not taking

credit or discredit for the stock market.

I'm just saying that we inherited a mess, both at the borders, prisoners being allowed to come into our country at will, just at will, what happened with inflation.

We had the worst inflation.

probably in the history of our country.

They say 48 years, but I would say the history of our country eight away at people.

Our view of the stock market is the end.

Oh, it's an indicator.

But what the stock market really tells you on what you, when you look at the stock market in this case is it says how bad a situation we inherit.

Yeah.

He calls it the Biden overhang.

But he took credit.

He said, you know, this is all Biden.

And then all of a sudden, well, I didn't really mean all of that.

You know, I did kind of flip flopping and all over the place.

But let's give credit to that reporter for doing a great job recapping exactly what he did say.

Well, earlier in the day, he called it America's new golden age.

You know, he's been throwing golden age out there

and

putting a lot of gold around in the Oval Office to gold trophies and stuff

like a

mantle.

And then he's warning parents, though, that, you know, it might be a little rough to get the kids, you know, their toys this Christmas.

They're going to get fewer toys.

they're going to cost more.

And he said, uh, you know, instead of getting 30 toys, 30 dolls, they'll get two dolls.

Yeah.

Like dolls or currency, I guess.

Like they still buy their kids dolls.

What is he living in the 30s?

Okay.

But here's, here's the other thing that he added to it.

Do you think that was bad enough?

Right?

Well, instead of $30, they'll have only two.

Yeah.

Then he had to throw in

and those two dolls may be a little more expensive.

Yes.

Well, thanks so much for peering the dolls

down and

then making them cost more.

Oh my God, what is wrong?

He truly is an idiot.

OK.

He actually posted this.

This is the.

Trump's stock market, this is way back when he was elected, because my polls against Biden are so good, investors are projecting that I will win and that will drive up the stock market.

And so now, of course, this is Biden's stock market, not Trump's.

I didn't take over until January 20th.

Chairs will soon start kicking in and companies are starting to move into the U.S.

by record numbers.

And by the way, again, the reporters are saying,

They're waiting for that first agreement around the world, a tariff agreement.

Nothing has come in yet.

Yeah.

Lots of negotiations, supposedly.

We're talking.

They're

very serious.

We're

talking, but we haven't really heard about

any deals.

And the reason why they're not agreeing, of course, is because if they agreed to something and then all of a sudden Trump changes his mind, they're stuck to that agreement.

Yeah.

Phone lines are open.

608-879-8255.

You can call us or text us on the Civic Media app.

Let's go to Dick.

He is on the line this morning.

Good morning, Dick.

What do you got for us?

Oh, good morning.

It's really fortunate, isn't it, that that Barbie movie was waged, what, two, three years ago?

You wouldn't be able to make it now.

You wouldn't be able to get all the stuff for the movie, all the props and everything.

But the other thing he did either yesterday or day before, that you've got to check out if you haven't seen it.

him talking to the guy from ABC News and discussing the Declaration of Independence.

Oh, yes.

Yeah.

If you could get some audio of that, that is a, that's a nice lapper there.

Yes, it is.

That's like the third grader who, you know, was supposed to read about it.

And so you're going to discuss that in class.

and then he gets called on and obviously he didn't read anything about it.

Yeah, Terry Moran asked him, what does the Declaration of Independence mean to you?

Because Trump was going around and pointing at, here's a picture of Reagan, here's a picture of Lincoln, here's somebody else, and then he

shows

him the Declaration of Independence.

And that's what Moran's question was to him.

Well, we don't have that cut.

But we'll get that.

Yeah.

Yeah, we'll definitely have that on here.

But I appreciate the reminder on that.

Yeah.

We'll bring that in.

Thanks for that

call.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Well, why don't we go to Terry Moran's interview with Trump on the tattooed knuckles?

Oh.

Garcia's knuckles.

All right.

Let's just play that.

That is cut one.

Let's hear how that confrontation took place.

It's

a confrontation, by the

way.

This is Terry Moran and Trump going at it.

And Moran is trying to move on because Trump will not get the message.

This is... Now I know why no one wants to tell Trump the truth about terrorists because it just can't break through the... Let's listen to this.

When we have criminals, murderers, criminals in this country...

We have to get him out, and we're doing it.

And you'll pick out one man.

But even the man that you picked out, he said he wasn't a member of a gang.

And then they looked, and on his knuckles, he had MS-13.

There's a dispute

over that.

Well, wait a minute.

Wait a minute.

He had

MS-13 on his knuckles tattoo.

Oh, he had some tattoos that are interpreted that way.

But let's move on.

Wait a minute.

Hey, Terry.

Terry.

He did not have the

letter MS-13.

It says

MS-13.

That was Photoshop.

So let me just... That was Photoshop.

Terry,

you can't do

that.

Hey, they're giving you the big break of a lifetime.

You know, you're doing the interview.

I picked you because, frankly, I never heard of you, but that's OK.

I

picked

you, Terry.

But you're not being very nice.

He had MS-13 tattoos.

We'll

agree to disagree.

I want to move on to something

else.

Terry.

Do you want me to show you the picture?

I saw the picture.

We'll agree to

disagree.

Here we go.

Here we go.

Don't photoshop it.

Go look at his hand.

He had MS-13.

He did have tattoos that can be interpreted that way.

I'm not an expert on them.

I want to turn to Ukraine.

No, no, Terry.

No,

no.

No, no.

He had MS as clear as you can be, not interpreted.

This is why people no longer believe the news because

it's fake

news.

When he was photographed in El Salvador, they aren't there.

But let's just go.

They aren't there when he's in El

Salvador.

They

weren't there, but they're there now,

right?

No, but they're in the picture.

Terry.

Ukraine, sir.

He's got MS-13 on his knuckles.

Okay,

it's

you

do such a

disservice.

We'll take a look.

Why don't

you just say yes?

He does and you know go on to something else contested

Wow Unbelievable.

Oh my god.

That's how you have to deal with that guy Wow,

why do we even bother dealing with him?

Like what if we just stopped listening to him all together?

Mm-hmm.

That would be something

Mm-hmm.

We have

mark

on the

line.

Let's go back to the phones.

Good morning mark.

Go

ahead

What it brought up before is what the Declaration of Independence actually is, was an indictment against the King of England and the British government.

And the things that they were actually supposed to be, you

know, their

failures in governance.

I mean, failure to provide us with immigration law.

Let's remember the Trump sabotage immigration law that Congress had passed and Trump managed to get a kill from the Senate because I don't want to see this happen.

That, um, that the whole

You know, the judges were under the king's thumb.

You know, Trump wants the judges under his thumb in this country to make them favorable to him.

I mean, just on and you could go on and on in that.

And that Trump certainly does not understand what it actually means and that too many Americans fail to understand what it actually means is that the government is supposed to be by the people, for the people and of the people.

And it's not supposed to be of the dictator and his minions and

It is just pretty disturbing that all these people who claim to be for liberty and all this are signing up for the dictator, and every time the dictator gets challenged, he goes into a little snitch and doesn't want to admit the truth, and as an example you just gave, the guy did not have MS-13 on his knuckles.

I mean, and Trump does not want to let that go, and blame somebody else for the fact that he is a blithering idiot.

And that's probably an insult to Blue Thorn Idiots.

Yeah.

Thank you, Mark.

I appreciate

that.

Can you play cut nine?

I think we have a little bit of time here for that.

The point of this cut is at the very end.

So we have time for it.

Let's play it right away.

No, we don't.

No, I shook my head, John.

Do you see what you want to see?

I see only what I want to see.

Well, let's play this.

This is very short stuff here.

And this is from the Trump Cabinet meeting.

OK, this is AG Pam Bondi communicating with Trump.

Let's listen to this.

President, your first 100 days has far exceeded that of any other presidency in this country ever.

ever.

Never seen anything like it.

Thank you.

I was at DEA yesterday and they said to me, you, Donald Trump have taken the handcuffs off of DEA

agents.

If there's anyone who kisses an ass,

this is the

best one

right now.

She knows

how to do it.

I think

she's worried.

I

think she's trying to get a date with this guy.

That's pretty bad.

And you know, when I was watching that, I was thinking to myself and you know, in past cabinet meetings, they did exactly the same thing.

Everybody said something very similar to that and it reminded me of Eddie Haskell from Leave It To Be Rool.

Let's let's play Eddie's version of Pam Bondi.

Let's listen to that.

Gee, Mrs. Cleaver, you even look pretty in an apron.

Gee, Mrs. Cleaver, you sure do look nice.

Gee, that's a very nice cake, Mrs. Cleaver.

Gee, that's a very nice sweater, Mrs. Cleaver.

Oh, have you been redecorating Mrs. Cleaver?

No, not recently.

Oh, everything looks so nice and fresh.

I guess it's just the way you keep house.

Gee, Mr. Cleaver, your front lawn, she looks nice.

Oh, Mrs. Cleaver, that dress is very attractive.

The

color is most becoming.

I got a feeling they don't like me.

Well, let's face it, Eddie, they've never liked you.

Yeah, but they're usually bright about

it.

There we go.

It's cool.

Coming back with Brittany Merlot with an update of the weather on John and Gordy.

WMDX 92.7.

This is John and Gordy in the morning.

It is raining like crazy out there right now.

And I think this is going to be like this for the next 80 days.

40

days and 40 nights.

40 days and 40

nights.

There you go.

There's guy named Noah out in the parking lot.

Loving a lot

of lumber there and built directing traffic.

I don't

know why he's gonna come.

Let's get the inside on the outside whether we like it or not from our chief WMDX meteorologist, Brittany Merlo.

Good morning, Brittany.

A lot of

rain.

Good morning.

How

are you doing?

Well, we're we're surviving so far.

Yeah.

How much of this?

I mean, it's really coming down right now.

We get a downpour right now outside our studios here on State Street.

I

was just gonna say it's gonna get heavier before it ends and I saw that coming on radar so a little bit more heavy rain here probably for the next 30 to 45 minutes or so and then after that it starts to ease up a little bit giving us a little break.

We could of course still see some more scattered showers here through about lunch.

Then I think we're going to be dry for the afternoon, still stuck under mostly cloudy skies, breezy this morning.

Winds are pulling out of the east up to 25 miles per hour, but those will calm down this afternoon too.

And?

Brittany's been... Brittany's been at the mid

50s

today,

so still staying on the crisp are looking at.

Oh, really?

It's going to be, it's still going to be cold.

How much did you miss?

You got to hit with the freeze rate.

The freeze

rate.

That's not till Friday night.

We lost you there just for a few seconds, but the rain is going to continue off and on.

Yeah.

Yeah, it's going to continue off and on.

Easing up about lunchtime, we are going to stay mostly cloudy today, still stuck on the cooler side of things in those mid fifties.

Winds are going to start to ease as well.

And then as we go through tonight, another low pressure system sweeps through the state.

So it's going to spark

up

more scattered showers, but we'll be sleeping.

It'll be overnight.

But added rainfall.

So keep an eye on those rivers.

They're definitely rising across the state, those streams as well.

So some minor flooding definitely expected over the next few days.

And we're going to dry things out for the weekend.

Warm things up.

And this high pressure system wants to stay for a good chunk of next week too.

So.

Once we get through tomorrow morning, we're dry.

We're good.

We're warmer.

I mean, we're talking about mid-seventies by next week.

Yep.

Summer

will be here next week.

Excellent.

Great.

And good-looking weekend, too.

Okay.

Very good.

Brittany, well, thank you so much.

You have a good, keep that umbrella handy, all right?

Be sure to check your windshield wipers and get your Galax without mucklucks.

What?

I think today I'm going to rock that umbrella hat.

I have one of those.

You have an umbrella hat?

My gosh.

Do

you have

anywhere nearby?

What was

that?

Is it

handy?

You want to

model

it?

No,

I totally didn't grab it this

morning.

Did you buy it at one of those festivals, like the air show or something like

that?

Yeah, I think it came from something like that

back in

the day.

I can't remember exactly where, but I love it.

It works.

Excellent.

Very good.

Well, thank you, Brittany.

Thank you, Brittany.

You have a great day.

You too.

WMDX chief mural, just Brittany Merleau.

All right.

This is a bizarre story.

Cut 276 if you could find that.

This is Caroline Levitt coming out with an amazing announcement.

I don't know if this got very much press.

I don't think it did, but it is so off the wall and ridiculous.

Let's listen to this announcement.

Listen.

But his negotiating skills aren't the real danger to this country.

What's gonna fuck us up?

It's his obsession.

with the concept of the leverage that he has.

That's not the right guy.

I was going to say

John.

You can't

count

him.

First of all, it's not Caroline Levitt.

It

sounded like John Stewart.

Yeah, John Stewart is God, right?

All right.

So anyway, this is about the truckers.

We got the truckers.

Hang on.

You have any luck there, Sam?

278, John.

All right.

Well, let's play it

and then the third executive order which actually speaks to the heart of your question earlier about the uber drivers will be a

Order directing the Department of Transportation to include English literacy tests for our truckers Yeah, this is a big problem in the trucking community

that unless

you're in that community You might not know no, but there's a lot of communication problems between truckers on the road With federal officials and local officials as well, which obviously is a public safety risk So we're gonna ensure that our truckers who are the backbone of our economy are all able to speak English That's a very common sense policy in the United States of America's the president will be signing that later this afternoon

in

the

hell is she talking about?

So there's a problem on the trucking side of our nation that, I don't know, the truckers can't communicate anymore because there are too many Spanish speaking truckers out there.

I mean, what is, what are they talking about?

Mike.

Micromanaging hasn't

really been an issue that I was aware.

No, she's calling it a security risk By having Spanish-speaking truckers on the highways and byways of a great nation.

Mm-hmm

Sam.

Well, I was gonna jump in whenever you finish by the way I found the clip we mentioned earlier of Terry Moran interviewing Donald Trump and asking him what the Declaration of Independence means to him.

Do we have time?

Let's play.

I yeah, we got it.

All right.

Okay.

Here we go.

This is

great

Declaration of Independence.

What does it mean to you?

Well, it means exactly what it says.

It's a declaration.

It's a declaration of unity and love and respect.

And it means a lot.

And it's something very special to our country.

Lincoln's

portion.

Wow.

Of love and respect.

And unity.

No.

It's quite the complain list, actually.

Not really.

Wow.

It's not what it's about.

What is...

Again, you know, we see this over and over again.

We see proof that this guy is incapable of being the president of the United States.

And over and over again, my mega friend in Milwaukee or CJ, they just don't see it.

They do not understand any of this.

I was going to play a Tizzy rant because his point of that rant was that these people, they can look right at something and not believe it and convince themselves that it's not real.

And that is so true of the right and the movement as we know

it.

Seems to be the case, yes.

Coming up, the Midwest Food and Farm Report.

After that, more of John and Gordy in the morning right here.

WMDX.

We were saying, yeah.

Let the sun shine.

Is the John and Courtney show.

This portion of the show is being brought to you by Teeth Are Us, the world's largest tooth care center.

Remember, when you have a bad tooth pulled at teeth are us, we'll remove too healthy teeth absolutely free.

And don't forget to bring the kids along to swim in our heated Olympic-sized 40-foot spit sink.

It's refreshing.

We call it the spit pool.

That's good.

735, 92.7 WMDX.

It's John Peterson, Gordy Young, along with producer Sam, this produced show is brought to you by Virlo Mattress of Madison.

One thing that remains constant since 1958.

I remember 1958.

You remember 1958?

Yes.

Oh, yes.

Yes.

What a year.

Like yesterday.

Virlo is still direct to consumers and they provide superior products at unbeatable prices to locations to serve you better.

Madison's east side and west side or just go to their website for a lot more information Virlo.com

And before we go to the teletype, I mean, he's been busy this morning.

Yeah, it's been clicking away,

spewing a lot of news and information.

So we'll get to that in just a moment.

But you brought something in Bernie Sanders.

Yeah, this is, you know, he's been out there on tour with AOC going all over the place, getting massive crowds.

Yeah.

In fact, he was on with CNN last night talking about some of that and talking about the crowd side.

But he wrote.

really didn't care about the crowd size, just the fact

that

they're getting a lot of reaction out there.

But here's kind of a summary that he put together just a day or two ago about where he's at right now.

The worst form of addiction that this country now faces is the greed of the oligarchy.

You might think that if you had 10 20 billion dollars it would be enough You know kind of enough to let your family live for the next 20 generations But it's not for whatever reason whatever Compulsive reason they have these guys want more and more and more and they are prepared to destroy Social Security Medicare Nutrition programs for hungry people

in order to get even more.

That to me is disgusting.

This is a little moment in American history, but we have had difficult moments before.

And I am confident from the bottom of my heart that if we stand together and we do not allow some right-wing extremists to divide us up by the color of our skin or our religion or where we were born or our sexual orientation,

If we stand together, we can save this country.

We can defeat oligarchy.

We can defeat the movement toward authoritarianism.

And in fact, we can create an economy and a government that works for all, not just a few.

All right.

That's Bernie Sanders on the floor of the U.S.

Senate.

He made that.

By the

way, here I go doing math on the air again.

I ran the

math how long $10 billion worth of generational wealth would last.

He said for the next 20 generations, if you take 30 years for every generation, multiply that by 20, each generation would still get more than $16 million.

Seems like a lot.

Wow.

Thanks

for doing that math.

Yeah, you always wonder, if you're making a billion dollars, just a billion alone would be enough for generation after generation.

Wow.

You need to give some of that back in taxes.

Doesn't it make sense?

I

mean, if you wouldn't miss it.

If you're making that kind of money,

wouldn't

you just work for free and then spread out your salary and what you make to all of the employees?

Just give them one hell of a good year.

That's what

I would do.

Makes

sense.

Oh,

fire it up again.

Here we go.

It is.

All

these stories are coming across even with

audio.

Isn't it amazing?

It has audio as well.

OK.

Trump's firing spree has hit the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the entity that disperses federal funds to public TV and radio stations across the country.

But there is just one problem with that.

And that is cut number five.

This is Brian Stetler.

Stelter rather and he talked about these PBS firing so listen

This case is about an organization created more than 50 years ago to fund PBS and NPR.

It's one of those invisible organizations that sends out money around the country that the Trump administration is trying to blow up.

On Monday, the Trump administration sent a letter to three of the directors saying, you're fired.

The only problem with that is that according to the law back in 1967, the Trump administration cannot fire the board of directors.

I've read through the entire law.

It's very clear.

It's an independent, private entity, not an arm of the federal government.

So the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has gone to court asking for a ruling to that effect.

And this is going to be another one of those battles between the executive branch and the legislative branch and the judicial branch.

John?

There you go.

See?

Why don't you go

fire it?

Just, you can't

do that.

No, but this is what he's been doing all across the rest of the government.

And he has

no legal

ability to do any of this stuff.

And it's a teletype going again here.

I think so.

It was just

spewing all this information out.

All right.

All right.

Let's go to the next one

here.

The new GDP numbers show a drop in growth and a contraction in the economy.

Oh my gosh,

this is not

good news.

That

hasn't happened in a long time.

six here, let's play this.

All right, so obviously this is just moments after we learned that this GDP number came out.

It did show a drop in growth, a contraction in the economy first that we have seen in years, in fact.

And it's a sharp reversal from the 2.4% growth we saw in the fourth quarter.

So obviously this is a White House that is stepping out to defend its policies on the economy in a moment where we're waiting to see if the first deal comes through on tariffs.

Yeah, we were looking at this.

Quarter four was 2.4% growth.

Quarter three is 3.1, quarter two is 3.0, and now we're at negative 0.3%.

Yep,

that's quite the difference from the Biden administration's GDPs, but oh well, you know, I don't know, is it Biden's fault?

Yes, apparently.

The good numbers were Biden's fault.

And the latest headline I see here is surge of imports in response to Trump tariffs led

to this economic slowdown.

Right.

Yeah, companies were getting stuff coming in.

They better get it before the tariffs get here.

That's right.

Oh, we got another story

coming

across.

Yeah, we do.

Oh, this is what is

going on here.

Well, here, Trump says the taxes are going to go up.

If he doesn't get his tax cuts, let's listen to, I believe it's cut to 80.

Do we have that?

Let's check.

All right.

Let's

play.

You know, they do it morally.

They're morally bad.

You know what the answer is?

If you don't get it, you're going to have the highest tax increase in history instead of the greatest tax cut in history.

If the Democrats prevail on this bill, you get a 58% tax increase.

Would you like that?

These are the Democrats.

And then he fell asleep.

Sleep deprived.

Well, I think so.

Doses off at all the important funerals.

So

I don't know.

I don't get the math.

Maybe

you're the guy who does math on the air.

Sam, why don't you tell us why if we don't get the tax cuts, taxes will be higher for everybody else.

I don't get that.

No, this one has me stumped,

John.

Well, it's a head scratcher.

Actually, you know, we did

We got so little tax cuts, the last time around in 2017.

It didn't really affect us at all.

So this tax cut, if it's continued, and that's what they wanna do, they wanna continue those tax cuts, we are getting even less and they've increased the amount of money that we have to pay because of the tariffs.

So we're going to actually pay $4,000 to $5,000 more each year just on living expenses alone.

because they have increased taxes.

The largest tax increase in history,

I

believe.

At least he can put that under his belt.

Now all the darn teletype is still going.

Oh man.

You can

always

interrupt us with the teledive if you want.

Hey,

I don't control it.

It's got a mind of its own.

Oh, I know

it does.

Jeffrey Sachs had something to say about musks, cuts, and they're not doing really anything at all.

And this is 262.

He's talking about the higher tax revenues is not the solution.

Let's

listen.

Just as a, again, as a simple arithmetic matter, no matter what Elon Musk cuts, it doesn't address the core of the fiscal situation in the United States.

I know the numbers.

There is no way in the world that he solves the fiscal problem.

The fiscal problem requires higher tax revenues.

That's all.

There's no way in the United States that we are going to have a fiscal policy of a budget that is responsible, that meets basic needs of the American people, that honors social security and health care other than through higher taxes.

And the fact that we can't discuss that is because of the broken political system.

So that's just fiscal arithmetic.

And we could go through the numbers.

I don't care what they find.

It doesn't add up to what is really at stake here, which is 7% of GDP budget deficit, not even close.

That's

right.

There you go.

It doesn't add up.

No, it doesn't add up.

And we've been hearing this on and off for so long now, right?

It's crazy.

So.

Well, oh there goes the teletype.

I was gonna go

into one

explanation

We

just have to put that off.

No, we gotta move

on.

All right, well, this is Pete Buttigieg.

He's on

the

talk show, Circus, making a lot of great comments out there.

This is cut 241.

Cue that up and make sure it's the right cut.

I've been really messing this up.

Are you

becoming

dyslexic or something?

When

we start getting over like 200 cuts, then I'm starting to mix this stuff

up.

You never learned to count that high, right?

No, I never did.

But anyway, why don't we listen to Pete Buttigieg and this is great.

stuff talking just let's listen to it.

Like, I want you to be able to get up in the morning.

And the first thing you do is you commute to work.

And by the way, if you're on EV, I want that to be affordable for you.

Whereas you're on public transit, not to get back into the subway situation, but I want you to have good

public

transit to get to where you're going.

And then when you get to that job, I want you to be paid well.

And if you're about to have a kid, I want you to know that you're going to have parental leave when you have that kid.

And if you don't want to have a kid, I want you to have the right to choose whatever kid, which means access to birth control and abortion and those things that give you the freedom to decide on that.

And if you already have a kid,

when you picked them up at school, I want that school to be good, not having his funding slashed while they set fire to the Department of Education.

And then when you get home, I want you to be in a neighborhood that is safe and where you can breathe the air because we didn't let them get rid of the Clean Air Act.

And you don't have to think for one moment.

about whether the air you breathe or the water you drink is clean and clear, which actually takes a lot because it means the government has to constrain those actors that would make you unfree by polluting there and polluting the water.

And then when you go to bed, I want you to know that your family is going to be fine, even if it's family like mine, despite there being some Supreme Court justice who wants to obliterate your family because it doesn't match his interpretation of his religion.

Like, that's the life I want everybody to be able to live.

Yeah, I think.

And I think we can deliver that.

Cut that.

Yeah, that's

fine.

Yeah, that's Pete Buttigieg.

Just saying it like it is.

And that's the best explanation ever.

He really does, I guess he just appeals to people's common sense.

Well, he's been going to the Manusphere lately and going on to shows, you know, with all guys and talking about things.

And it's been good.

I mean, he's been received well in that space.

Very well.

He's changed a few people's minds.

Yes, he

has.

And that helps.

I hope.

Anyway.

It is 748, this portion of John and Gordy in the morning, brought to you by our friends at Verlo Mattress of Madison.

One thing remains constant since 1958.

They are still direct to consumer providing superior products and unbeatable prices to locations east and west.

Go to Verlo.com.

I hope the teletype is running out of

ink.

Terrific if you like eating leftovers

leftovers leftovers.

I kept the leftovers the leftovers just some leftovers

leftovers for a week

and a half Enjoy

I hope you enjoy it, you know, yeah, it's always good news when you have Rand Paul and your side

You know Rand Paul's always been kind of a maverick.

Yeah, you know and it is independent.

Yeah, you know he's always got

something up his sleeve.

What's he got this time?

Whose side is he on this time?

Even

though it seems like he's on your side, he's still not.

But let's listen to Rand Paul.

This is cut 268.

And he's blasting the House Republicans for their hypocrisy.

claiming to balance the budget.

Let's listen to this.

I'm concerned that there's so much enthusiasm among conservatives and Republicans for cutting waste and cutting fraud.

But I'll tell you what worries me.

What worries me is that so many things in Washington are smoke and mirrors.

On the one hand, it appears as if all of this great savings is happening.

But on the other hand, the resolution before us will increase the debt by five trillion dollars.

So which is it?

Are we cutting spending?

Are we expanding the debt?

If we expand the debt at five trillion dollars, that will be an expansion of the debt equal to or exceeding everything that happened in the Biden years.

Now, which is it?

I thought we had an election.

The budget resolution is going to add $5 trillion over about a two-year period.

So they're going to add more than $2 trillion a year to the debt.

In what world is that conservative?

They say there is a difference between the parties and yet when you look at the numbers, when you look at the fact that this budget resolution is going to borrow five trillion dollars, you scratch your head and say, what's up here?

Somebody not really being honest with us.

They're going to borrow five trillion dollars.

And yet they'll say, well, the spending is coming down, and we've put these numbers in the budget that will reduce spending.

If so, why are we borrowing $5 trillion?

Drive that point home,

man.

All right.

OK.

All right.

And of course, keeping in mind that Musk paid zero taxes.

Right.

Yeah.

How does that work, anyway?

I don't know.

A lot of them get away with that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Oh, the billionaires.

Now here's here's something.

This is cut 269 and the question here is Who created the debt?

Hmm.

Let's play that.

Okay.

Who really drove us into the red?

Turns out the real budget busters weren't who you've been warned about Over the last several decades Republican presidents have added mountains to the national deficit Reagan $74 billion

George H.W.

Bush, $102 billion.

George W. Bush, a jaw dropping $154 trillion.

Trump, he takes the crown, $2.1 trillion added.

Now, compare that to the Democrats.

Jimmy Carter added $25 billion.

Barack Obama, he reduced the deficit by $825 billion.

Bill Clinton?

He actually left office with a budget surplus after slashing $383 billion.

Joe Biden reduced the deficit by around $942 billion.

Donald Trump's latest budget proposal adds a staggering $5.8 trillion to the national deficit, driven largely by sweeping tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%.

At the same time,

It slashes $880 billion from Medicaid and pulls billions more from essential federal programs.

If passed, it would mark the largest tax giveaway in recorded history, favoring the ultra-rich while gutting critical services for millions of Americans.

The next time someone says one party is fiscally responsible, ask them to check the receipts.

Okay.

Yeah.

That pretty much adds up to a ton of stuff that the Republican president.

Yeah, we've

talked about this before,

too.

I mean, if they repeal all these tax cuts, we'd be better off today, and we'd be able to afford everything and start balancing the budget again.

But no, no, they're just going to have more of the tax cuts.

Now, are we better off after the first 100 days, cut 267?

Let's get it in here.

Ask yourself, are you better off than you were 100 days ago?

Trump came back, not to lead, but to punish.

He purged loyal Americans from government, fired heroic generals, demanded loyalty over competence, turned the Justice Department into his revenge machine.

Let this guy steal your private data and wreck social security.

Our allies betrayed.

Ukraine sold out to Putin, turning our government into a police state, kidnapping American citizens, sending innocent people

to foreign hellholes, snatching students off the street for tweeting.

Then came the tariffs, markets crashing, retirements wiped out, America isolated, weak, China winning the trade game.

He pardoned terrorists and criminals.

This isn't a second term, it's Trump's second chance to end America and it's working.

So no, you're not better off, you're not safer, nothing is cheaper, the economy is worse, our country is in danger.

Just imagine what the next hundred days will bring.

Help.

Help,

please, please.

And I just thought, you know, that would leave everybody with

a

positive feeling.

Thank you for

caring throughout the entire day.

Thanks

for that.

I feel a

warm and fuzzy.

Yeah, that's great news.

You know, I'm glad I was able to contribute.

Thanks for not bringing us down to a positive feeling.

We really appreciate that.

Oh,

Catherine's

here.

Well, she has a smile on her

face.

See, you did it.

See, she does feel warm and fuzzy just like me.

You brightened our day, John.

Yeah,

it's great.

I think that was the Lincoln Project, giving us a boost today.

So thank you.

Well, we hope we brightened your rainy day.

Stephanie Miller is coming up next.

Tomorrow on The Big Show, we will have Rocker in the studio with a MaxSync preview and Pam Yachty.

with a food and farm report can't wait for that yeah it's all coming up we hope you have a great day we'll talk to you in 22 hours so long 50 seconds and see you later all right oh yeah see

From the depths of a digital abyss, where truth drowns in a sea of clickbait and algorithms, a beacon ignites.

From the heart of Badgerland, from our studios on State Street in downtown Madison, Wisconsin,

It's John and Gordy on 92.7 WMDX.

Back again for an incredible, incredible day of topics.

A lot of idiocracy to fill the airwaves with.

I wish we had more time here, an extra hour, but I could use an extra hour.

An

extra hour?

I do I do so much preparation that I hate to waste all the preparation that I put into this program.

I have all of these.

Well, not all of these clips.

I think I have two or three clips broken up where Rachel Maddow listed all of the bad, stupid mistakes and things that happened in the first 100 days.

Now,

I heard

Maggie Dawn talking about she put her own

uh, lists together and she was narrating it herself.

But I, I love the way Maddox does it.

So I was going to play this so everybody got a, a taste and a feel.

I wanted a CJ and I wanted my mega friend in Milwaukee to hear it, uh, that it isn't running smoothly and not well.

And it's almost a disaster to watch.

So, you know, I wanted to play that stuff.

I haven't.

Really played anything so Well,

we'll make time for

today.

I'm starting to get a little nervous Maybe you guys are phasing me out and you know, I'm just not gonna play any of my clips anymore

Well, that may be true,

but you know, I

wouldn't worry about

it.

All right.

All right Well, that's a

great assurance.

Thank

you.

Well, good morning and happy May Day to you May 1st.

Well, May Day is It's a warning.

It's like an emergency.

It's an emergency thing.

That's John Peterson

Gordon Young producer, Sam, is raring to go.

It's raining outside.

It is.

Big time.

I didn't expect that.

I suppose I should have.

Did

you not listen to the

forecast?

Well, I don't expect rain.

I don't think it's going to rain, so I see it.

Even if it's in the weather forecast,

it's always a surprise to me.

Yeah, so much for April showers bring May flowers.

Yeah.

It's not supposed to rain at all in May, right?

Well, I don't

know.

I don't know.

Well, if you go by that, say, only

if you live by things.

Well, I'm glad you've asked me that question.

Yeah.

Red 56.

Red 56.

All right.

Scoring

at

home.

All right, you're using a lip balm in there, aren't you?

Well, yeah, my lips get chapped.

They could try.

So, is

that a chapstick you may have found on the ground?

No.

Why would I use chapstick?

Because you seem to scrounge around, you know, in the

back alleys

of

Madison and dumpsters, you know, you're finding mattresses and ping-pong tables.

Yeah, found it in a couch.

I mean, okay, I can't lie that I've never dumpster-dived for food, but I wouldn't use the same chapstick that I found

in the dumpster.

Wait, you've gotten food out of a dumpster, really?

Yeah, because I saw who put it in there and I knew them.

It was at work.

It was at when I worked at a food place.

But

it

made its

way into the dumpster and you

took it out.

It was a clean bag, Gordy.

It's okay.

Oh

man,

okay.

I'm still here.

I'm still

alive.

Well, just barely.

I know you're leaving in a month.

But here's the thing.

There was a center and an eye bit.

about somebody finding chapstick.

And then, you know, they're standing out in front of a business.

Do you don't remember the chapstick bit?

And then the guy's using it.

And then standing there, they're on the, you know, as to the sidewalk waiting for a bus or something.

And then somebody stands next to him and says, hey, can I use your chapstick?

Really?

And then another person walks over, hey.

Well, let's see if we

can find it.

We'll have to dig that one out.

That is a classic set in an alive bid.

It's just unbelievable and it's gross.

It's just gross.

You know the movie Elf?

Sure.

The scene in the movie Elf where Buddy picks the gum off the bottom of a railing and tries it out.

He's static about how good it tastes.

That was a great movie.

Yeah, really, a Christmas classic.

Yeah, absolutely.

Well, let's get to the National Day calendar for this very first day of May.

What do you say?

Well, sure.

Forced to be

excited.

I'm a little worried about the idea of it being Loyalty Day.

Who are we being loyal to?

Is that your answer?

Sure, yeah.

Um, you're wrong

as well.

Oh,

man.

Oh, yikes.

Is that something that Trump put in place?

Well, we'll find out.

Uh, it's not national music in the schools day.

Uh, that might be some other day, but it's not today.

Okay.

All right.

Let's, uh, go back up top here.

It's not just Tim

Slicker

about that.

Why don't we have a national music in the schools?

Tim will be joining us in just about a half hour, but, uh,

We want to ask him about that Supreme Court case, right?

The one about

Catholic schools?

Yes,

Catholic

charter schools.

Charter

schools, yeah.

That was a big case that got some news yesterday.

Anyway, it is National Investing Day.

You've got a lot of investments in the markets, don't you, John?

You've got stocks, bonds, you know, you're a day trader.

Well, you know, I'm rolling in cash.

You're Mr. Big Shot.

Big cigars and motor cars.

That's John Peterson.

I'll be worried to top it in Monaco.

Get the cane.

It's National Investing Day, encouraging people to dedicate at least one day in the year to explore how they can get invested and stay invested for strong financial futures.

It would be a good day to do that as the

stock

market continues to take dives every two or three days.

But you know, whether you're setting aside your first $100 or managing a growth portfolio,

You guys get sent to the principal's office a lot as a kid?

Two or three times.

Just

once.

I got suspended for using the car at lunch.

Really?

It was a

ban on using cars for luck.

Really?

I

said

the

principal's

car or what do you mean?

If that would be... You took a random car?

That would be cool.

Where did you drive to just out for a one second?

I went

home.

I didn't bother eating lunch at schools and I was accused of doing wheelies or something.

Wheelies?

What?

Well, patching out

in front of somebody's house.

Peeling out?

Okay.

and it was a stationway, a Rambler station wagon, so no, that didn't happen.

I don't know what these people

were thinking, you know, and I took all the greasers out to the nearest shopping center.

They

knew I was going and then they picked up on it and everybody asked for a ride.

I

became the friend of the greasers in her school.

Yeah, and it was kind of fun and everything, but I got suspended.

And because I was a good kid and all that kind of stuff, the teacher did not send me home or give me any time off, which... I

mean, is that really a suspension then?

Did you get a

detention?

No, it wasn't a detention.

Not

even a detention.

It's National Chocolate Parfait Day.

You like chocolate parfaits?

I love them.

It's kind of, you know... They're hard to resist.

Yeah, well, they're hard to make.

The delicious layers of chocolate cream and more chocolate sweetly stacked together is enough to make us skip lunch and go straight to the dessert, chocolate parfaits.

I think people eat too fast now to actually put all that time into

making those layers, yeah.

I

bet you are a

big fan of the Jell-O molds with the vegetables

in it.

The fruit, Jell-O salad.

Oh, God.

They tortured us with those as we were kids.

I don't know if I mentioned National Mother Goose Day, but it is that today.

Okay, let's see Mother Goose Tales.

Let's see when those those started way back late 17th century Elizabeth Foster Goose a lot of a lot of very very dark tales Not good outcomes.

Yeah, she was a widow.

She moved into

Well, their oldest daughter and started telling these tales.

That makes sense.

Okay.

They always killed and roasted kids.

Wow.

Yeah, mother goose.

I guess it goes back even further.

Let's see 1695.

There were some books that had all some of these tales.

I

mean, just tales of torture.

Stealing

kids.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Good things to put kids to sleep with.

Wolves eating kids.

Wolves.

Witches.

Yeah.

National loyalty day.

Does it have something to do with the great orange king?

No.

I don't think so.

Since 1955 every US president has proclaimed May 1st as a day to call on Americans to raise their flags.

Oh, no, you're kidding me pray and so the president on

their heritage

presidents have

endorsed this day since

1955 I

I'm sad that a Democrat would do something like this.

This is a little

authoritarian Well, 1955 of Eisenhower was president back then so I didn't

seem like he would promote something like that, but I guess he did

Let's see.

First observe, oh wait, it goes even further.

Let's see, we dig back into it.

Sure.

First observed in 1921 as Americanization Day, National Loyalty Day, counterbalance the Communist celebration of Labor Day on May Day.

Okay.

Wow, communism.

Wow.

Rear is a tuggly

heading.

So we know that.

To the reaction holiday, they were like.

We want to have a holiday on May 1st, too.

We feel left out.

So it was President Dwight Eisenhower.

He proclaimed it on 1959, even though they started it occasionally, you know, further back.

They actually made a holiday, but observance day on 1959.

May 1st.

Yeah.

Did

we talk about this last year?

I don't

know.

I don't remember talking about this particular

day last year.

I don't remember what happened 10 days ago.

I think

withholding days here.

Next year, there'll be a different day that they withhold this year.

Perhaps so.

OK, we got a minute and a half left.

Sam, do you want to open up the history book or?

Oh, it's

so dusty.

OK,

well,

do

whatever you want.

Yeah.

It's up to you.

Why are you leaving it up to

me?

Whatever you think.

Okay, open the

book.

Just get on with it.

Some of it's coming

in here.

Ventilation in there is awful.

There is no ventilation, Gordy.

No, there isn't.

There's no fresh air.

Oh, man.

It's so dusty.

I don't know how that book gets so dusty every day.

Yeah, I do.

So,

I remember we talked about this thing in the history book.

Are we even going to have time or is John just going to last his way to the break?

I don't know.

Go ahead, Sam.

Do it.

Go ahead.

I could read this little text from Mark if you want.

Yeah, let's hang on with the history.

What does Mark say?

Lindsey Graham says, Trump should be pulp.

I thought being Catholic was...

prerequisite for the job, as well as knowing something about faith.

But no, not really.

And the commies stole Labor Day from laborers.

Yeah, see?

Mark knows his history.

It is almost 20 past the hour coming right back.

Johnny Gordy in the morning, 92.7 on your FM dial and it's a great song.

You know that is so, so Keith Richards.

Yeah it is.

It really is.

It's a 623, 48 degrees rain showers today through much of the day and high around 56 degrees.

We were getting into the history books.

When I was so rudely interrupted by John just

Busting out laughing.

Well, do you need to reopen the book?

No.

You did it to me, did you?

Yes, exactly.

That's how I was laughing.

Oh, that's right.

Well, today in 1840, I remember we talked about this last year, because it was news to me.

Oh, God.

Today in 1840, the UK, they issued their very first prepaid postage stamps.

And what was news to me last year was that when you guys were young, you still had to lick a stamp in order to stick it on a page.

Yeah.

It wasn't that long ago,

did

they?

Well, I've never known anything besides self-adhesive ones, which peel it off and stick it on like a

sticker.

Wow,

okay.

Well, that's crazy.

Yeah.

But the thing that I thought was funny about...

the UK and their prepaid postage, prior to 1840, you had post-paid postage, where the receiver had to, like, literally pay the mailman whenever they got a letter.

Yeah, that's right.

That was kind

of

weird.

Yeah, that was in the early days of John Peterson.

You were around in the 40s, the 1840s.

Remember like it was yesterday.

Today in 1924, iodized salt went on sale for the first time.

There you go.

The article I was reading, they called Michigan specifically, I don't know why they were singling out Michigan, the goiter belt.

Because people didn't get enough iodide in their diet.

That's right.

There's a big issue with

that.

Goiter belt.

Yeah.

Oh, my God.

I

understand.

It also helps keep or retain the color of your hair.

That's what

I

read someplace.

Salt?

Yeah.

Oh, I know.

The iodine.

The iodine.

The iodide.

The iodide.

Yeah, yeah,

yeah.

OK.

The

iodine.

I think iodine is poisonous.

I'm not

pretty sure.

But anyway.

Why would they name them so similarly?

I don't

know.

We got some labor history on May day today.

1926 Ford, they implemented the 40 hour work week.

1926.

Yeah.

It wasn't a completely new thing, but at that time in the 20s, the majority of Americans were still working like 12-ish hour days.

They were working more than eight hours a day.

I'm surprised that hasn't been proposed yet.

What,

longer hours going back to that?

Are you

getting me?

Sure.

They're looking at slave labor, child labor.

Well, I think radio never really adapted to the 40-hour work.

No,

it never did, no.

Today in 1960, the U-2 spy plane incident.

That spy plane being shot down in Russia.

I remember that.

Oh, do you?

It was a big time.

Anything else you ever you ever ridden an Amtrak train?

Oh, sure.

Mm-hmm

Amtrak began service on this day in 1971 I've never rid I don't think I've ever ridden a train outside of like Okay, I guess one time one time I have ridden like a city tramway when I was in San Francisco Outside of that the only train that I think I've ridden was at Disney World

If that counts.

Well,

that counts, kind

of.

Kind of,

yeah.

Amtrak stations in Milwaukee and up in Portage and the Dells.

Right.

Goes

that way.

Yeah.

In Minneapolis.

But not Madison.

Why would they run through Portage and not Madison?

You can go to North

Freedom at the train museum.

Right.

And

I think they have train rides in the summer.

The Midcontinent Railway Museum.

Yeah, they do have train rides.

Where's that at?

It's in North Freedom.

Wisconsin,

just

look it up.

Go up

to

Baraboo and take a left.

Go about 10 miles.

It's out there in the country.

They have a cool little binder up there.

It's very cool.

My

daughter used to work there.

And they have old trains and they work and they do

like

an eight mile run around Rock Springs

and

North Freedom.

Are we talking like steam trains?

No, they don't

do

steam.

I'm a big sucker for steam trains.

They have quite a collection of old trains.

and train cars.

Yeah, they do events.

We went up

there for the Santa train.

Oh, sure.

They had a little celebration up there.

Yeah, they do that.

And it's tough.

And they

do... It's not easy to get into those trains during sub-zero weather.

Right.

It's a little difficult.

They're

strass like going into an ice box.

And I remember changing a diaper.

outside the train car.

Really?

Yes.

It was just

your diaper or somebody else.

Yeah, it was somebody else's diaper.

I changed diapers for other people's kids.

Yeah, they have train rides in the fall to look at the fall foliage.

It's great stuff.

I took a train ride from

Milwaukee.

Foliage.

Foliage.

Thank you.

Yeah, Milwaukee to Green Bay.

I took a train ride.

Yeah.

I love that

stuff.

Trains are a lot

of fun.

Yeah.

They didn't like me on that train though.

I

was swinging a sword around.

I was into Zorro at the time and I had a sword and

I went

up and down the aisles swinging that thing around and these people were really worried about getting hit by that sword.

But I love the train rides.

I just love trains.

Good times.

Yeah.

It's 29 past the hour.

OK, well, cut me off now.

Well, you want to.

No,

no, that's fine.

I'm not going to

wax.

Coming up in just a few moments, we've got Rachel Maddow and she's got a list of all of the problems encountered in the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

And it's

just part one.

So we'll we'll take a listen to that.

Tim will not be here today for busted pencils.

We'll be back with more of John and Gordy in just a few minutes.

As

the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point, a dumbing down.

until humanity was incapable of solving even its most basic problems.

This is grade A weapons grade stupidity.

Just doing my civic

duties.

This is WMDX 92.7.

John and Gordy in the morning, but holding off on this, it puts so much work into this.

Yeah.

But yeah, I have to shorten these segments up just a little bit.

Rachel Meadow did a review of all of the mistakes.

in

the

first 100 days, so I had to split it up and take some of the extra stuff

out.

That's a lot of extra work for you.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, let me just mention at this point in the program that it's 40.

You

know,

we all feel for you.

I get it.

It is a lot of

work.

I know.

I'm looking for sympathy, aren't

I?

We got rain showers this morning, John.

48 degrees highs in the mid 50s.

All right.

Well,

that sounds

fantastic.

And always look for those adjustable bed frames.

Ask for them.

Ask to get an demonstration.

Tell

them John Peterson sent you.

That's right.

Get another crop.

All right.

Okay, let's get to our first segment.

We probably won't have time for the second one because that's a long one.

I have to split that one up.

But

anyway, we did a lot of extra work on it.

Sure

did.

Sure did.

Give me credit.

Okay, where credit is due.

All right, here is the first segment of Rachel Mato taking a look in the past.

The first 100 days of the Trump administration, all the problems that they might have experienced.

Let's check it out.

In fact, we all experienced it.

Let's go with it.

Okay.

You

remember the first big surprise destroy the government thing that he did right after the inauguration?

He sent out a White House memo ordering the freezing of all federal funding, all federal grants.

And then less than 48 hours, oops, had to take that back.

Headline, Trump White House rescins memo freezing federal grants after widespread confusion and legal challenges.

President Donald Trump's budget office on Wednesday rescinded a memo freezing spending.

So it was kind of the first big thing he did and then they immediately had to take that back.

And then right on the heels of that, you remember this one?

When they accidentally put somebody in charge of the FBI who they didn't mean to?

quote, White House officials goofed on the White House website.

Oops!

Trump administration fires and then tries to rehire nuclear weapons workers in Doge reversal Then this was the very next day headline New York Times Doge claimed it saved eight billion dollars in one contract.

It was actually eight million dollars But you know, these are the smart guys smart kids

Next day, headline, agriculture department tries to rehire fired workers tied to bird flu response.

Oops, we accidentally fired all the bird flu people in the middle of the bird flu.

Oops,

can we

get them back?

That

same day.

I think we did mean to do that, but we certainly can't defend it now that people are asking us to defend it.

So that one gets reversed, too.

Then Trump's top campaign donor, Elon Musk, tries on the federal government the same thing he did to destroy the company, Twitter.

He sends out the what did you do last week email, insisting that anybody who doesn't immediately respond to that email will instantly be fired from the federal government.

No exceptions.

Headline federal agencies can't ignore what did you do last week email Trump administration says?

Then this is the following day we get news from the VA where Trump has cut things like oh, I don't know little liberal woke programs like cancer treatment and support for veterans with cancer and burial services for veterans Trump cut burial services for veterans Really?

Yeah for a

hot minute until

People freaked out, and so, yeah, he reversed that, too.

Next, headline, VA contract cancellations halted in major reversal.

Maybe at this point, they're getting a little shy about screwing up so much, about having to take back and try to undo all these things that they're messing up.

No, they're just getting warmed up.

We got this, headline, Elon Musk admits Doge accidentally eliminated prevention measures combating Ebola virus.

Oops.

The next day, headline, Trump administration reverses course after putting veterans crisis line hires on hold.

There you

go.

There's more, right?

There's another six-minute segment, which

I

will split up, but it hasn't been an overly successful administration so far.

Right?

I mean, it's hard to wrap your head around getting rid of all of these very important things just willy-nilly.

You know, instead of somebody seriously contemplating, well, this sounds like a bad thing to do during the bird flu

and getting rid

of the researchers for taking

care of bird flu.

When it just jumps out.

Yeah, it really does.

I mean, come on.

Yeah.

You know, and COVID, I mean.

It's just it's going on and on yes, and they're not stopping destroy

the COVID test because they didn't think well It was actually a Biden plot.

Oh take

down the economy Yeah, so they're gonna get rid of all the COVID tests instead But of course now they're letting everybody get free COVID tests in the mail.

Mm-hmm.

Yep It's just again mine.

There's

nothing responsible being done by this administration nothing is thought out they just

take a shot at something,

get rid

of it, and, you know, take it back if they have

to.

Yeah, nothing is off limits.

Phone lines are open.

I wish everybody would stop

There are Thursdays.

Sorry.

Yeah, it's free.

It's free.

Just go to wmdxradio.com to find out more.

Wmdxradio.com.

Seems like an empty week without that newsletter.

Exactly.

It's always really good.

No,

it is.

Yeah,

all right.

You

got something to say, Gordy?

I don't know.

One of these days, I will write an editorial.

Yeah, I thought you

were going to do that.

And it will be in the newsletter.

Why don't you write for the newsletter?

Well, maybe someday.

All right, why don't we put it

on

your list of things to do?

Oh, yeah.

Yeah,

thanks.

Yeah, thank.

All

right.

Well, hey, you know, not a lot has been going on well with the Trump administration, right?

And and the economy is tanking badly.

Let's queue up to 42.

It is actually on the list underneath the Tim Slacker stuff.

All right.

So let's get to this.

This is, you know, Britt Hume.

Oh, yeah, I remember him.

He was with ABC for many years, and he went over to Fox.

Fox and destroyed his career.

Right, destroyed his career, became very right-leaning.

And now, as it becomes older and older and older, grumpier sound, and he sounds more authoritative.

So anyway, let's listen to Brett Hume talk about Trump being underwater.

Well, a couple of things.

There's a list of issues that we asked people what they felt about, and the president is underwater in all but one, and that one is the border.

where he's got high approval on that.

Majority approval is above water.

The tariffs are out there, and

people are

worried about them and don't like

them.

They don't know how

that's going to play out.

We don't

know how the foreign policy endeavors are going to pan out.

We don't have peace between Ukraine

and

Russia, which he promised.

So there's a lot of work to be completed, which if done successfully, I think would dramatically elevate his

current pool.

problems

along the way.

If these things could only improve,

then his ratings would improve.

Right, and the long list I just gave you accidentally here on Fox News.

Geez, I'm sorry about that.

I know Trump is watching right now.

Please, please don't kill me.

Oh boy, that is crazy stuff.

Yeah, let's talk briefly about the Supreme Court.

Yes.

Yes.

And we'll be paying for them as taxpayers and we shouldn't object to this, I would think.

We will be back

with more on that on John and Gordy.

Kathryn Lake

96, 92.7, John and Gordy in the morning.

652, rain showers today off and on and temperatures pretty cool to start things out.

We'll get into the mid fifties later on today, about 56 degrees.

Phone lines are open if you want to join in.

I think I saw a peewee out in the street shouting something.

Yeah, I couldn't quite

get to

open the window next time he passed.

Oh, wait, there he is.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

All right.

All

right.

Well, let's get back.

Take your umbrella with you to work today.

Check your windshield wipers.

Let's get back to this big case before the Supreme Court Catholic schools turning their own schools

and

getting paid by

taxpayers, come on, no one wants this, right?

The Oklahoma Supreme Court blocked this Catholic school from joining the state charter program, so they can't do it.

So it went to the Supreme Court, and we have the deep thinkers on the Supreme Court, like Brett Kavanaugh, and this is what he said.

All religious school is saying is, don't

exclude us on account of our religion.

Okay.

Well, that's the reason why it shouldn't be funded by taxpayers.

Oh, God, this guy is awful.

He says it seems like rank discrimination against religion.

Oh, sure.

That must be it.

No, no, taxpayers aren't supposed to be paying for religion.

Right.

We're not

supposed to

be

endorsing

a religion.

Exactly.

That would be endorsing a religion.

I would think anyway.

And as I mentioned, Elana Kagan said there will be a line outside the door of religious groups seeking to establish from publicly funded charter schools.

If you can do this consistent with your religious beliefs, why not?

Right?

John, why don't you start a religion and then you can start a school and get all this public money some money.

Don't know.

No, I was

careful.

Why didn't I think of

that?

Damn.

That's not too late.

All right.

Well anyway Justice Amy

Coney Barrett.

Ah, yes.

Recused herself.

Why?

So now

the split

is 4-4.

So if Justice Roberts decides, then it will decide one way or another whether this will be allowed in the country.

Did you say why she

recused herself?

Because she went to Notre Dame, maybe?

Or,

you know?

No,

I don't know.

It doesn't say here, but if it were 4-4.

then it would affirm the Oklahoma Supreme Court decision banning it from joining the charter system.

All right, so we'll see what Justice Roberts decides on this when they finally decide the case.

This is crazy stuff

though.

Yeah, it is.

Isn't it?

Yeah.

Well, I don't think...

I can't, I, it's just, we don't know what they're going to decide.

No.

So it's, I

mean,

it's up for

grabs.

It seemed like at least four of the justices were definitely on the side of allowing religious charter schools and taxpayers paying for it.

Why can't we complain about it?

You know, a lot of megas, they don't want to pay for this, that and the other thing because well, you know, we shouldn't pay for that.

You know.

Yeah.

Here we have an instant where now liberals, Democrats, and progressives have to pay for the right wing endorsement of religion by our government.

That is...

Listen, John, you know the Snopes trial, the very famous teaching evolution trial

back in

the 1920s.

That case failed and they could keep teaching creationism all the way up until the 60s.

I forget what state it was in, but it was less than 60 years ago or so that started teaching evolution and all that time the public schools, publicly funded schools were still teaching religion.

We could go back to that.

Why not bring that back?

Alright, we cut so many other.

So many other topics here.

Let's get to Robert Wolfe.

He has been making the rounds.

He's on Fox News quite a bit, but he's all over the place and all the different networks.

And he's talking about the crisis that we have with the economy.

And I thought we'd play this cut.

He said this actually on Fox News about the manufacturing crisis we have in this country.

Let's listen.

I don't know, Robert, some of the people we talked to say incompetence, probably the wrong word, unclear might be a better word.

You saw April until, for the most part, the president blinked both on Fed Chairman Powell, which I'm glad, as well as the China trade war, then the markets recovered somewhat, but it was on for the worst month since 1932.

And that's not even considering what's going on with bonds where there has been an incredible lack of confidence in the U.S.

dollar and U.S.

investments.

All right.

Yeah, it's incredible manufacturing president the CEO of GM Mary Mara Said these tariffs are gonna cost the company up to five billion dollars this year five bill Wow, I mean, that's it, right, you know

It's costing everybody a lot of money.

We were gonna talk to Tim slicker about How a lot of these schools are canceling upgrading and school renovations that they have planned out

And they passed referendums for, but now they have to put it on hold because they don't know the cost of what those renovations will be because of the cost of the materials being used.

They're also putting up by new school buses.

Because of that as well, they can't predict what those buses are going to cost.

The list goes on and

on.

Yeah, I mean, it just

throws everybody into a limbo.

And I think Walmart and Target said the shelves are going to start backing up in the supply chain in the next two weeks.

That's right.

Yes.

So

get

out

there.

So that's why my wife went out and bought all the products you could.

Excellent.

OK.

It is six fifty nine after the news.

WMDX

John Gordy in the morning.

It is seven minutes past the hour rain showers to start this first day of May, 48 degrees currently and high in the mid fifties this afternoon.

Yeah, the big news was the press conference Trump had and it didn't go well.

Press conference?

Well, you know, he had a press conference about the economy.

He was talking about how well the economy is doing currently.

But he decided, because it wasn't doing well, to blame Joe Biden for everything.

And let's play cut six here.

And this is Trump explaining this to the reporters in the room.

let's listen

the stock market in

this

case is it says how bad a situation we inherited i took place this is a quarter that we looked at today

oh boy

and i took we took all of us together we came in on january 20th so this is biden and you can even say the next quarter sort of by because it doesn't just happen on a daily or not only basis

this is biden

Did you hear him say that?

I heard him say this is Biden, this quarter, and probably the next one.

Let's cover that one.

Let's cover our ass right away on that one.

Well, you know, there was a reporter out there listening to all of that, and he was ready for this.

He wasn't going to be fooled by any of this.

This is cut eight.

So let's listen to this very smart reporter from The Independent.

Okay.

The transition, sir, you frequently took credit for the stock market highs.

You said it was a reflection of how well you were doing in the polls.

And then after you were elected, you said the stock market highs were a reflection of how well the transition is going and the American people's confidence in your incoming administration.

Now, the stock market is not doing so well, and you're saying that's the Biden stock market, yet you are the president.

Can you explain that?

I'm not taking credit or discredit for the stock market.

I'm just saying that we inherited a mess, both at the borders, prisoners being allowed to come into our country at will, just at will, what happened with inflation.

We had the worst inflation.

probably in the history of our country.

They say 48 years, but I would say the history of our country

is

eight away at people.

Our view of the stock market is the end.

Oh, it's an indicator.

But what the stock market really tells you on what you, when you look at the stock market in this case is it says how bad a situation we

inherit.

Yeah.

He calls it the Biden overhang.

But he took credit.

He said, you know, this is all Biden.

And then all of a sudden, well, I didn't really mean all of that.

You know, I did kind of flip flopping and all over the place, but let's give credit to that reporter for doing a great job recapping exactly what he did say.

Yes.

Well, thanks so much for peering the dolls down and then making them cost more.

Yeah.

Lots

of negotiations, supposedly.

We're talking.

They're very

serious.

We're

talking, but we haven't

really heard about any deals.

And the reason why they're not agreeing, of course, is because if they agreed to something and then all of a sudden Trump changes his mind, they're stuck to that agreement.

Yeah.

Phone lines are open, 608-879-8255.

Oh, yes.

Yeah.

If you could get some audio of that, that is a, that's a knee slapper

there.

Yeah.

We'll dig that in.

Thanks for

that call.

Yeah.

Well, why don't we go to Terry Moran's interview with Trump on the tattooed knuckles.

Oh.

Garcia's knuckles.

All right.

Let's just play that.

That is cut one.

Let's hear how that confrontation took place.

It's

a confrontation, by the way.

This is Terry Moran and Trump going at it.

And Moran is trying to move on because Trump will not get the message.

I know I know why no one wants to tell Trump the truth about terrorists because it just can't break through the... Let's listen to this.

When we have criminals, murderers, criminals in this country,

We have to get him out, and we're doing it.

And you'll pick out one man.

But even the man that you picked out, he said he wasn't a member of a gang.

And then they looked, and on his knuckles, he had MS-13.

There's a dispute over that.

Well, wait a minute.

Wait a minute.

He had MS-13 on his knuckles tattoo.

Oh,

he had some tattoos that are interpreted that way.

But let's move on.

Wait

a minute.

Hey, Terry.

Terry.

He did not have the letter MS-13.

It says MS-13.

That was Photoshop.

That was Photoshop.

Terry, you can't do that.

Hey, they're giving you the big break of a lifetime.

You know, you're doing the interview.

I picked you because, frankly, I never heard of you, but that's OK.

I picked you, Terry.

But you're not being very nice.

He had MS-13 tattoos.

We'll agree to disagree.

I want to move on to something else.

Terry.

Do you want me to show you the picture?

I saw the

picture.

And you think it was Photoshopped?

Here we go.

Here we go.

Don't Photoshop it.

Go look at his hand.

He had MS-13.

He did

have tattoos that can be interpreted that way.

I'm not an expert on them.

I want to turn to Ukraine.

No, no, Terry.

No, no.

No, no.

He had MS as clear as you can be, not interpreted.

This is why people no longer believe the news because it's fake news.

When he

was photographed in El Salvador, they aren't there.

But let's

just go.

They aren't there when he's in El Salvador.

They weren't there, but they're there now, right?

No, but they're in the picture.

Terry.

Ukraine, sir.

He's got MS-13 on his knuckles.

Okay,

it's

you

do such

a disservice.

We'll take a look.

Why don't you

just say yes?

He does and you know go on to something else contested

Wow Unbelievable.

Oh my god.

That's how you have to deal with that guy Wow,

why do we even bother dealing with him?

Like what if we just stopped listening to him altogether?

Mm-hmm.

That would be something Mm-hmm.

We have mark

on the

line.

Let's go back to the phones.

Good morning mark.

Go

ahead

What it brought up before is what the Declaration of Independence actually is, was an indictment against the King of England and the British government.

And the things that they were actually supposed to be, you know, their failures in governance.

I mean, failure to provide us with immigration law.

Let's remember the Trump, you know, sabotage the immigration law that Congress had passed and Trump managed to get it killed in the Senate because I don't want to see this happen.

That, um, that the whole, you know, the judges are supposed to be judges were under the King's thumb.

Trump wants the judges under his thumb in this country to make them a

favorable

to him.

I mean, just on and on.

You could go on and on in that.

And that Trump certainly does not understand what it actually means and that too many Americans fail to understand what it actually means is that the government is supposed to be by the people, for the people and of the people.

And it's not supposed to be of the dictator and his minions.

And it is just pretty disturbing that

All these people who claim to be for liberty and all this are signing up for the dictator.

And every time the dictator gets challenged, he goes into a little snitch and doesn't want to admit the truth.

And as an example you just gave, the guy did not have MS-13 on his knuckles.

I mean, and Trump does not want to let that go.

And blame somebody else for the fact that he is a blithering idiot.

And that's probably an insult to blithering idiots.

Yeah.

Thank you, Mark.

All right.

Appreciate that.

Appreciate that.

Can you play cut nine?

I think we have a little bit of time here for that.

The point of this cut is at the very end.

So we have time for it.

Let's play it right away.

No, I shook my head,

John.

Do

you see what you want to see?

I see only what I want to see.

Well, let's play this.

This is very short stuff here.

And this is, uh, this is, uh, from the Trump cabinet meeting.

Okay.

This is, uh, A.G.

Pam Bondi, um, communicating with Trump.

Let's, let's listen to this.

President, your first 100 days has far exceeded that of any other presidency in this country ever.

ever.

Never seen anything like it.

Thank you.

I was at DEA yesterday and they said to me, you, Donald Trump have taken the handcuffs off of DEA

agents.

If there's anyone who kisses an ass,

this is the

best one

right here.

She knows

how to do it.

I

think she's worried.

I

think she's trying to get a date with this guy.

That's pretty bad.

And you know, when I was watching that, I was thinking to myself and you know, in past cabinet meetings, they did exactly the same thing.

everybody said something very similar to that.

And it reminded me of Eddie Haskell from Leave It To Be Rool.

Let's play Eddie's version of Pam Bondi.

Let's listen to that.

Gee, Mrs. Cleaver, you even look pretty in an apron.

Gee, Mrs. Cleaver,

you sure

do look nice.

Gee, that's a very nice cake, Mrs. Cleaver.

Gee, that's a very nice sweater, Mrs. Cleaver.

Oh, uh, have you been redecorating Mrs. Cleaver?

No, not recently.

Oh, everything looks so nice and fresh.

I guess it's just the way you keep house.

Gee, Mr. Cleaver, your front lawn she looks nice.

Oh, Mrs. Cleaver, that dress is very attractive.

The color is

most becoming.

I got a feeling they don't like me.

Well, let's face it, Eddie, they've never liked you.

Yeah, but they're usually bright about it.

Yeah, it is, Cole.

Coming back with Brittany Merlot

Kathryn Lake

with an update of the weather on John and Gordy.

WMDX 92.7.

This is John and Gordy in the morning.

It is raining like crazy out there right now.

And I think this is going to be like this for the next 80 days.

40 days

and

40 nights.

40 days and 40 nights.

There you go.

There's guy named Noah out in the parking lot.

Loving a lot

of lumber there.

Directing

traffic.

Let's get the inside on the outside, whether we like it or not, from our chief WMDX meteorologist, Brittany Merlo.

Good morning, Brittany.

A lot of

Brittney Merlot

rain.

Good morning.

How are you doing?

We're surviving so far.

Yeah.

How much of this?

I mean, it's really coming down right now.

We get a downpour right now outside our studios here on State

Brittney Merlot

Street.

I was just gonna say it's gonna get heavier before it ends and I saw that coming on radar so a little bit more heavy rain here probably for the next 30 to 45 minutes or so and then after that it starts to ease up a little bit giving us a little break.

Brittney Merlot

We're going to hit the mid 50s today, so still staying on the crisp are looking at.

Oh, really?

It's

Brittney Merlot

still going to be

cold?

How

Brittney Merlot

much did you miss?

You got to hit with the freeze rate.

The freeze rate.

That's not till Friday night.

We lost you there just for a

few seconds, but the rain is going to continue off and on.

Brittney Merlot

Yeah, it's going to continue off and on.

Easing up about lunchtime, we are going to stay mostly cloudy today, still stuck on the cooler side of things in those mid-50s.

Winds are going to start to ease as well.

And then as we go through tonight, another low pressure system sweeps through the state.

So it's going to spark up more scattered showers, but we'll be sleeping.

Excellent.

Brittney Merlot

Great.

And

good-looking weekend, too.

Okay.

Very good.

Brittany, well, thank you so much.

You have a good day.

Keep that umbrella handy.

All right.

Be sure to check your windshield wipers and get your Galax

Brittney Merlot

without

mucklucks.

What?

Brittney Merlot

I think today I'm going to rock that umbrella hat.

I have one of those.

Do you

have

Brittney Merlot

an

umbrella hat?

My gosh.

Do you have anywhere

nearby?

Brittney Merlot

What was that?

Is it

handy?

You want to

Brittney Merlot

model it?

No, I totally didn't grab it this morning.

Did you

buy it at one of those festivals, like the Error Show or something like

Brittney Merlot

that?

Yeah, I think it came from something like that back in the day.

I can't remember exactly where, but I love it.

It works.

Excellent.

Very

good.

Well, thank you, Brittany.

Thank you, Brittany.

You

Brittney Merlot

have

a great day.

You too.

Couple UMDX chief mural, just Brittany Merleau.

All right, this is a bizarre story.

Cut 276, if you could find that.

This is Caroline Levitt coming out with an amazing announcement.

I don't know if this got very much press.

I don't think it did, but it is so off the wall and ridiculous.

Let's listen to this announcement.

Listen.

But his negotiating skills aren't the real danger to this country.

What's gonna fuck us up?

is his obsession with the concept of the leverage that he has.

That's not the right guy.

I was gonna say John.

You can't count it.

First of all, it's not Caroline Levitt.

It sounded like John Stewart.

Yeah, John Stewart is God, all right?

All right.

So anyway, this is about the truckers, Caroline.

We got it, the truckers.

Hang on.

You have any luck there, Sam?

278, John.

All right.

Well, let's play it

and then the third executive order which actually speaks to the heart of your question earlier about the uber drivers will be a

Order directing the Department of Transportation to include English literacy tests for our truckers

Yeah,

this is a big problem in the trucking community

that unless

you're in that community You might not know no,

but there's a lot of

communication problems between truckers on the road With federal officials and local officials as well, which obviously is a public safety risk So we're gonna ensure that our truckers who are the backbone of our economy

are all able to speak English.

That's a very common sense policy in the United States of America.

So the president

will be signing that later this afternoon.

What in the hell is she talking about?

So there's a problem on the trucking side of our nation that, I don't know, the truckers can't communicate anymore because there are too many Spanish speaking truckers out there.

I mean, what is, what are they talking about?

Micromanaging hasn't

really been an issue that I was aware

of.

No, she's calling it a security risk by having Spanish-speaking truckers on the highways and byways of a great nation.

Mm-hmm.

Sam?

Well, I was gonna jump in whenever you finish.

By the way, I found the clip we mentioned earlier of Terry Moran interviewing Donald Trump and asking him what the Declaration of Independence means to him.

Oh,

do we have time?

Let's

play.

Yeah, we got it.

All right.

Okay, here we go.

This is great.

Declaration of Independence.

What does it mean to you?

Well, it means exactly what it says.

It's a declaration.

It's a declaration of unity and love and respect.

And it means a lot.

And it's something very special to our country.

Lincoln's

portion.

Wow.

Of

love and respect.

And unity.

And that is so true of the right and the movement as we know it seems

to be the case.

Yes.

Coming up the Midwest food and farm report.

After that, more of John and Gordy in the morning right here.

WMDX.

This

portion of the show is being brought to you by

We'll remove two healthy teeth absolutely free.

And don't forget to bring the kids along to swim in our heated Olympic-sized 40-foot spit sink.

It's refreshing.

We

call it the spit pool.

It's good.

735, 92.7 WMDX.

It's John Peterson, Gordy Young, along with producer Sam.

This produced show is brought to you by Virlo Mattress of Madison.

One thing that remains constant since 1958.

I remember 1958.

You remember

1958?

Yes, what a

year.

Verlo is still direct to consumers, and they provide superior products at unbeatable prices to locations to serve you better.

Madison's east side and west side, or just go to their website for a lot more information, Verlo.com.

Before we go to the teletype, I mean, it's been busy this morning.

Yeah, it's

been clicking

away.

Spewing a lot of news and information, so we'll get to that in just a moment, but you brought something in, Bernie Sanders.

Yeah, this is...

You know, he's been out there on tour with AOC going all over the place, getting massive crowds.

In fact, he was on with CNN last night talking about some of that and talking about the crowd size.

But he really didn't care about the crowd size, just the fact that they're getting a lot of reaction out there.

But here's kind of a summary that...

he put together just a day or two ago about, you know, where he's at right now.

All right.

The worst form of addiction that this country now faces is the greed of the oligarchy.

You might think that if you had 10, 20 billion dollars, it would be enough, you know, kind of enough to let your family live for the next 20 generations, but it's not.

for whatever reason, whatever compulsive reason they have.

These guys want more and more and more, and they are prepared to destroy Social Security, Medicare, nutrition programs for hungry people in order to get even more.

That to me is disgusting.

This is a little moment in American history, but we have had difficult moments before.

And I am confident from the bottom of my heart

that if we stand together and we do not allow some right-wing extremists to divide us up by the color of our skin or our religion or where we were born or our sexual orientation, if we stand together we can save this country, we can defeat oligarchy, we can defeat the movement toward authoritarianism, and in fact we can create an economy and a government.

that works for all, not just the

few.

That's Bernie Sanders on the floor of the U.S.

Senate.

He made that speech.

By the way, here I go doing math on the air again.

I ran the math how long $10 billion worth of generational wealth would last.

He said for the next 20 generations, if you take 30 years for every generation, multiply that by 20, each generation would still get more than $16 million.

She seems like a lot.

Yeah.

Wow.

Well, thanks for

doing that, man.

Yeah, you always wonder, if you're making a billion dollars, just a billion alone would be enough for generation after generation.

Wow.

You need to give some of that back in taxes.

Doesn't it make sense?

I mean, if you wouldn't miss it.

If you're making that kind of money, wouldn't you just work for free and then spread out your salary and what you make?

To all of the employees just give them one hell of a good year That's what I would do

Oh, oh my God.

It's fired up again.

Here we go.

It

is.

All

these stories are coming across even with

audio.

Isn't it amazing?

It has audio as well.

Okay.

Trump's firing spree has hit the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the entity that disperses federal funds to public TV and radio stations across the country.

But there is just one problem with that and that is cut number five.

This is Brian Stettler.

stealthy rather, and he talked about these PBS firing, so let's listen.

It's an independent private entity, not an arm of the federal government.

So the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has gone to court asking for a ruling to that effect, and this is going to be another one of those battles between the executive branch and the legislative branch and the judicial branch.

John?

Yeah.

There you go.

See?

Why don't you read the

fire engine?

Yeah.

Just, yeah, you can't do that.

No, but this is what he's been doing all across the rest of the government.

And he has no legal ability to do any of this stuff.

And it's a teletype going again here.

I think so.

It was just spewing all this information out.

All right, let's go to the next one here.

The new GDP numbers show a drop in growth and a contraction in the economy.

Oh my gosh, this

is not

good news.

That

hasn't happened in a long time.

Oh, we got another

story coming across?

Yeah, we do.

Oh.

That telecom's getting a workout now.

What is going on here?

Workout.

Well, here, Trump says the taxes are going to go up.

If he doesn't get his tax cuts, let's listen to, I believe it's cut to 80.

Do we have that?

Let's check.

All right.

Let's plan.

You know, they do it morally.

They're morally bad.

You know what the answer is?

If you don't get it, you can have the highest tax increase in history instead of the greatest tax cut in history.

If the Democrats prevail on this bill, you get a 58% tax increase.

Would you like that?

These are the Democrats.

And then he fell asleep.

Sleep

deprived.

Well, I think so.

He

does his off at all the important funerals.

So

I don't know.

I don't get the math.

Maybe you're the guy who does math on the air.

Sam, why don't you tell us why if we don't get the tax cuts, taxes will be higher for everybody else.

I don't get that.

No, this one has me stumped,

John.

Yeah, it's a head scratcher.

Actually, you know, we did

We got so little tax cuts the last time around in 2017.

It didn't really affect us at all.

So this tax cut, if it's continued, and that's what they want to do, they want to continue those tax cuts, we are getting even less and they've increased the amount of money that we have to pay because of the tariffs.

So we're going to actually pay four to $5,000 more each year just on living expenses alone.

because they have increased taxes.

The largest tax increase in history, I believe.

At least he can put that under his belt.

Now, all the darn teletype is still going.

Oh man.

You can

always

interrupt us with the Teledype if you want.

Hey, I don't control it.

So that's just fiscal arithmetic.

and we could go through the numbers, I don't care what they find, it doesn't add up to what is really at stake here, which is 7% of GDP budget deficit, not even close.

That's

right.

There you go.

Doesn't add up.

No, it doesn't add up.

And we've been hearing this on and off for so long now, right?

It's crazy.

So, uh,

well, oh, there goes the teletype.

I was going to go into one

explanation.

I guess I'll just have to put that off.

No, we gotta move on.

All right, well this is Pete Buttigieg.

He's on the talk show, Circus, making a lot of great comments out there.

This is cut 241.

Give that up and make sure it's the right cut.

I've been really messing this up.

You know, when we start getting over.

Are you becoming

dyslexic or something?

No, when

we start getting over like 200 cuts, then I'm starting to mix this stuff

up.

You never learned to count that high,

right?

No, I never did.

But anyway, why don't we listen to Pete Buttigieg and this is great stuff.

Just let's listen to it.

I want you to be able to get up in the morning.

Yeah, that's

fine.

All

right.

Yeah, that's Pete Buttigieg.

Just seen it like it is.

And that's the best explanation ever.

He really does, I guess he just appeals to people's common sense.

Well, he's been going to the Manusphere lately and going on to shows, you know, with all guys and talking about things.

And it's been good.

I mean, he's been received well in that space.

Very well.

He's changed

a few

people's minds.

Yes, he has.

And that helps.

I hope.

Anyway.

It is 748, this portion of John and Gordy in the morning, brought to you by our friends at Verlo Mattress of Madison.

Well, I hope you enjoy it, you know?

Yeah.

There's always good news when you have Rand Paul on your side.

You know, Rand Paul's always been kind of a maverick.

Yeah.

You

know?

He's

independent.

Independent.

Yeah.

You know?

He's always got something up his sleeve

once he got this time.

Well, even though he... Who's side is he on this time?

Even though it seems like he's on your side, he's still not.

But let's listen to Rand Paul.

This is cut 268.

Okay.

And he's blasting the Hus Republicans for their hypocrisy, claiming to balance the budget.

Let's let's listen to this.

Are we cutting spending or are we expanding the debt?

If we expand the debt at $5 trillion, that will be an expansion of the debt equal to or exceeding everything that happened in the Biden years.

And yet they'll say, well, the spending is coming down and we've put these numbers in the budget that will reduce spending.

If so, why are we borrowing $5 trillion?

Drive that point home,

man.

Okay.

All right.

And of course, keeping in mind that Musk paid zero taxes.

Right.

Yeah.

How does that work anyway?

I don't know.

A lot of them get away with that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Oh, the billionaires.

Now, here's here's something.

This is cut 269.

And the question here is who created the debt?

Let's let's play

that okay who really drove us into the red?

Turns out the real budget busters weren't who you've been warned about Over the last several decades Republican presidents have added mountains to the national deficit Reagan 74 billion dollars George HW Bush 102 billion dollars George W. Bush

a jaw-dropping $154 trillion.

Trump, he takes the crown, $2.1 trillion added.

Now, compare that to the Democrats.

Jimmy Carter added $25 billion.

Barack Obama, he reduced the deficit by $825 billion.

Bill Clinton, he actually left office with a budget surplus after slashing $383 billion.

Joe Biden reduced the deficit by around $942 billion.

Donald Trump's latest budget proposal adds a staggering $5.8 trillion to the national deficit, driven largely by sweeping tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%.

At the same time, it slashes $880 billion from Medicaid and pulls billions more from essential federal programs.

If passed,

It would mark the largest tax giveaway in recorded history, favoring the ultra-rich while gutting critical services for millions of Americans.

The next time someone says one party is fiscally responsible, ask them to check the receipts.

OK.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That pretty much adds up to...

ton of stuff that the Republican.

Yeah, we've talked about this before, too.

I mean, if they repeal all these tax cuts, we'd be better off today and we'd be able to afford everything and start balancing the budget again.

But no, no, they're just going to have more of the tax cuts.

Now, are we better off after the first 100 days cut to 67?

Let's get it in here.

Ask yourself, are you better off than you were 100 days ago?

Trump came back, not to lead, but to punish.

He purged loyal Americans from government, fired heroic generals, demanded loyalty over competence, turned the Justice Department into his revenge machine.

Let this guy steal your private data and wreck social security.

Our allies betrayed.

Ukraine sold out to Putin, turning our government into a police state, kidnapping American citizens, sending innocent people to foreign hell holes, snatching students off the street.

tweaking.

Then came the tariffs.

Markets crashing.

Retirements wiped out.

America isolated.

Weak.

China winning the trade game.

He pardoned terrorists and criminals.

This isn't a second term.

It's Trump's second chance to end America and it's working.

So no, you're not better off.

You're not safer.

Nothing is cheaper.

The economy is worse.

Our country is in danger.

Just imagine what the next hundred days will bring.

Help.

Help,

please.

And I just thought, you know,

that

would leave everybody with

a

positive feeling.

Thank you for

caring throughout the entire day.

Thanks for that.

I feel a little warm

and

fuzzy now.

Yeah, that's great news.

You know, I'm glad I was able to contribute.

Thanks for not bringing us down.

A little positive feeling.

We really appreciate that.

Oh, Catherine's

here.

Well, she has a smile on her

face.

Yeah, see, you did

it.

See, she does feel warm and fuzzy just like me.

Brightened our day, John.

Yeah,

it's great.

I think that was the Lincoln Project, giving

us a boost today, so thank you.

Well, we hope we brightened your rainy day.

Stephanie Miller is coming up next.

Tomorrow on The Big Show, we will have Rocker in the studio with a Maxink preview and Pam Yackey with the Food and Farm Report.

Can't wait for that.

Yeah, it's all coming up.

We hope you have a great day.

We'll talk to you in 22 hours.

So long.

50 seconds.

See you

later.

All right.

Oh,

Kathryn Lake

yeah.

See you later.
