First serve time is coming up in just a bit.

I talked to River Valley head coach Mariah Hill this week about the matchup between the River Valley Blackhawks and Stanley Boyd.

And if heith wise, they were similar.

We have just a little bit of an advantage.

We're lucky that we have two six foot plus kids.

So I think height wise and blocking wise.

I think we might have a slight advantage, but otherwise I think we match up really well.

We have a little bit more experience, I think.

They're setters of sophomore are setters of senior.

So I think that will help a little bit with running the offense.

But again, they're a really tough team.

I mean, they're one of the four teams in D three that made it.

So we know they're going to be tough.

Phil Nee

I see they were a runner up in their conference as well.

What do you know about their league that they play in?

I think they have a really tough league like us.

I mean, conferences are always tough.

You never really.

know what's going to happen when you start your season, you hope for the best.

I'm really fortunate that we came out second in our conference to a very tough Platteville and playing Platteville really makes us better and makes us know that we can play against tough teams.

It really helped us going in, playing them last in conference before we went into regionals because we started playing some of our best volleyball against them.

So kudos to Platteville for giving us, you know, a leg up.

Phil Nee

Is Stanley Boyd similar to Platteville?

I think so.

I think they have a very similar offense and they're tough servers too and Platteville obviously has a very well-rounded offense as well and are also tough servers.

Their defense is scrappy as well so I think us having to go up against a team like Platteville and then again with Barocco and Cambridge that's really just preparing us for Stanley Boyd.

Phil Nee

I've been watching you all year, and it seems like the team plays maybe even better when you're behind.

I'm not sure if the coach likes that or not, but, you know, you dropped us at the Richland Center in Viroqua in Cambridge, and it seemed like you came back with a vengeance.

Yeah, we're really lucky that we're able to stay, you know, out of our heads, not let the nerves really jar us too much and really come back strong.

We're a team that works really hard to not get down on ourselves and to mentally be tough.

And our theme and our model this year has refused to lose.

And I think that that has been the perfect choice for us this year because there's been some big matches that we've played and we literally have had to refuse to lose.

Phil Nee

Anything else as far as health of the team?

Are you a little better this week?

Yeah, we're healthy.

I mean, we're as healthy as we can be.

We're very fortunate.

Nobody has gotten any more injuries or any more hurt than they have been.

Carly Birchfield's ankle seems to be cleared up.

Ella Myers was battling a bug for a while.

She's healthy.

We're all really healthy and we are all just very, very excited to get to this level, to hit this goal and we're feeling good and we're ready.

Phil Nee

Have you thought about your pre-match speech?

We'll probably be very similar to every speech I give every time, which is just go out there and play our game, do it together, believe in each other, trust each other and refuse to lose.

Phil Nee

It's going to be an exciting day.

Well, we appreciate you joining us and we'll see you at State.

All right, we'll see you.

Phil Nee

Thank you.

Hey, good morning, everyone.

Welcome to today's broadcast, State Semifinal volleyball, River Valley, and Stanley Boyd meeting here today.

Both teams were runners up in their respective conferences during the regular season, and they've made it all the way through to get here today.

And both have 31 wins on the season.

That's pretty impressive.

Good morning again, Henry Briggs.

Good morning, Phillip.

How are you doing?

Good.

Quite a crowd here today.

What an event,

you know.

It's really, really kind of exciting because there's actually a lot of people here.

Well, now, Mariah Hill on the pre-game shift that just...

Probably nobody left in River Valley out there are some left, but they did bring a lot of people.

I think maybe the school is the only people that's left over there.

And the River Valley Band is here.

They were a little

late in here,

but they made it.

They're here.

They sounded really good.

And the singing early, we weren't here to just pick it up, but for the National Anthem was outstanding between Joseph Mahoney and Willie Cronley.

Oh my god.

A couple of seniors in River Valley.

Wow.

They got a standing ove.

Yep, they did.

It was absolutely amazing.

Very nice.

Well, it's time for the starting line-ups for the State Semifinal.

Sponsored by LLM Salvage.

Catch, revive.

Four of the Stanley Board Orioles.

Amanda Lou, outside hitter, is a sophomore.

Number zero.

Number one, Kennedy Reed, the liberal player, a senior.

Number two, Megan Pilgrim, a sophomore.

Shettered.

Number six, Ezra Krenzelik, middle blocker.

She is a sophomore.

And number eight is Elena Knitz, who is your sophomore.

And number nine, Kelly Lou.

Senior outside hitter the Lou sisters are the two leading hitters for the Orioles for the Valley familiar starting lineup including number three junior Brooklyn white number four senior page Stafford number 10 as from folks a junior No player number 11 Josie Mahoney number 13 a senior the Carly Burtfield as well in the lineup today

May fit the difference in that the matching of Cambridge the other day number 14 Elevator is senior leading away

Phil Nee

player of the year in the cops this year and also Kylie Smith number 22

Todd Coppernoll

Hank any remarks I got a couple here Phil Stan Stanley Boyd is

Approximately 158 miles from here.

Okay, and they're approximately 158 miles from River Valley High School.

Is that right?

Yeah, and River Valley is 167 miles from here.

Stanley Boyd sets outside of Eau Claire on the east side of Eau Claire.

That's good information.

And everybody knows where River Valley sets, but just...

You know, they had a drive two to get here and River Valley did.

We did this morning and looking forward to a great match.

We definitely are.

And

Phil Nee

I think that when you get to this level, they're all good teams.

Todd Coppernoll

And I just, I don't like the rankings, how they do them, but you can throw the rankings out the window

Phil Nee

here.

Right.

River Valley rated fourth.

Which, to be honest, I'm not surprised,

Todd Coppernoll

because teams from Southwest Wisconsin

Phil Nee

never seem

Todd Coppernoll

to get the higher ranking.

It was, you know, look at Seneca yesterday, which they got beat, but that was, that was what, their second loss of the year?

Yeah, only their second loss.

And is this absolutely, there's, I'm just going to say it, there's no respect in Southwest Wisconsin for athletics.

Phil Nee

That's why you got to go out and prove it.

River Valley looking to

Todd Coppernoll

do so today.

Now, wasn't Ithaca ranked fourth in the state baseball as well, wasn't they not?

I believe so, going into the year without it.

It's just like, yeah.

But anyway, that's a different story that we can't get into.

Phil Nee

On the other side of the floor, in fact, a match is going on simultaneously.

So don't be confused because you might hear cheering and thinking, why aren't they responding?

The cheering is probably for the other match going on at the same time.

So it is pretty loud in here.

It is very loud in here, yes.

The Marathon Red Raiders are taking on Water, Tom Luther, and Prep Phoenix.

Well, let's take time out.

Phil Nee

All right, you're back in time as we get set for first serve time today here at the rest center in

Todd Coppernoll

Green Bay Yeah, I think the whole school of the high hole high school here's at River from River Valley here What a nice crowd

Phil Nee

it is they had the day off from school So they're ready to go

Todd Coppernoll

and teachers are back working.

Phil Nee

Absolutely.

Hello to the staff at River Valley

Todd Coppernoll

today.

Listen, especially Mr. Braille.

He probably needs to stay there

Phil Nee

Here we go first serve Megan pilgrim of Stanley Boyd puts it in play and

Played by Bella the right side it goes back to her and Ella Myers brings it over on the near side past to the left side hit by Stanley Boy dropped over nice back up there by Kylie Smith ball pushed over by Birchfield and Stanley Boy recovers pushing it over boy What a volley here in the first one Birchfield right side hit the antenna.

It's a point for Stanley Boy

Todd Coppernoll

One

Phil Nee

nothing

Todd Coppernoll

Orioles that was a nice volley to get started so it was if this is how if this is the preview We have got a heck of a heck of a match

Phil Nee

good point.

Yeah, every volley takes that long Here's the serve and it's an ace for Stanley Boyd So they go up two to nothing on an ace serve from number two Megan Pilgrim She'll serve again standing right in midcourt steps up drives at wide left and it's gonna be is it out

Believe

Todd Coppernoll

it is.

Yes, it is out.

Phil Nee

That's a point for River Valley.

They're on the board To what

Todd Coppernoll

never

Phil Nee

from

Todd Coppernoll

now I thought

Phil Nee

she touched that but she didn't let it go easily We're at the other end of the courts.

We're looking through the net watching River Valley Bella da Vinnie will serve for River Valley and here's her serve pulls it left side played by Lou right side They're going for the hit ball up blocked by River Valley down it goes Paige Stafford and Ella Myers And we're tied

That's a good sign

Todd Coppernoll

right there.

That's a great sign.

River Valley ties it back up at two to two.

And you know what, again, they're all over the floor.

Belladivini

Phil Nee

will serve again for RV, steps up with that left-handed serve, brings it to the back, Lew with the dig, passes to the net, dumped over by the Orioles, kept live by River Valley.

Point

Todd Coppernoll

River Valley.

Phil Nee

And somebody in the net for the Orioles.

Todd Coppernoll

That'll make it 3-2 if you watch the if you watch this young lady serve It looks like a knuckleball and you don't know where it's going.

It just moves in the air.

Phil Nee

She's the lefty Bella Da Vinnie coming up now and brings it over to the right side this time dug by Lou Right side and the pass dropped over and hit the antenna.

I believe that's a point for River Valley And they will lead it by

Todd Coppernoll

score four to two Good start.

Yeah, it seems like they're having a really really hard time of

of handling her serve.

The

Phil Nee

Vinnie will start again.

Here's the serve down the middle of the floor, played by Lou, passed to the wide outside, pumped over by Reed, River Valley's turn.

Here's the set by Mahoney, driven over there by Myers, kept live by Stanley Boyd, and they'll bring it back to the left side.

Played in the middle by Smith, quick set from Myers, dumps it over.

Played now by the Orioles, back to the middle, they'll take a swing, hit it into the net.

River Valley leads five to two Yeah,

Todd Coppernoll

that's another great volley great volleyball going here

Phil Nee

So far River Valley's had the upper hand no timeouts yet Here goes the Vinnie back again right at the edge of the River Valley Fans and now deserves it fielded here in the near side by Lou pass quick set shot is over and down for Leila plus switch a junior that just came in

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, she's she looks like a pretty good athlete Phil.

She does well

She looks tall, put it that way.

There is some size.

Phil Nee

There

Todd Coppernoll

is some height on this team for Stanley Boyd.

But you know, Cambridge was outsized in two and it didn't bother them,

Phil Nee

so.

Here's the serve set up by River Valley.

There's Myers gets it, hits it into the net, and it's a point for Stanley Boyd.

Five-four.

Yeah, there's so many peaks and valleys.

It's like a roller coaster ride in

Todd Coppernoll

volleyball.

She's five-eleven, so that's pretty tall for a junior in high school film.

Awaiting

Phil Nee

the serve as River Valley serve received mode.

There's the dig by Smith set by Mahoney right side shot by Stafford played by Lou in the backcourt Back to the middle dumped over by the center

Todd Coppernoll

and paid Stafford blocks it down and she is there again

Six to four looks like she's picking up right where she left off from last Saturday.

Phil Nee

Yeah, they didn't miss a beat No, they did not Josie Mahoney back to serve six for River Valley in the opening set Mahoney drives it to the middle gonna be played there at the near side by Lou There's the pass set shot up blocked by Myers back to the Orioles to the right side taking a shot getting it down number nine Kelly Lou

Todd Coppernoll

That makes it six

Phil Nee

five.

Todd Coppernoll

They made me sisters there.

Phil Nee

They are

Todd Coppernoll

yes, yeah

That was a nice shot.

Just found it.

Just found the soft boss sauce a soft spot in the defense on

Phil Nee

Between the two loose sisters, they've got a lot of kills.

Here's the serve by Stanley Boyd fielded by the Vinnie sent by Mahoney right side Haley birchfield takes a shot, but it's out of bounds And we're tied six six Haley birchfield Josie Mahoney Ella Myers along the front the Vinnie Stafford

and also Taffs in the back.

I was blocked out a little bit.

There's a serve out of bounds by Stanley Boyd.

Todd Coppernoll

Nice job by Divini just letting that go.

She saw it.

She was standing on the line and she knew that that was gone.

Phil Nee

Seven-six ball game score River Valley with a lead and the side out and Ella Myers will serve.

Coming in is Brooklyn White, front row for River Valley.

She had the power tip to win it the other day.

Here's

Todd Coppernoll

a she played really well the other day really well

Phil Nee

Orioles return trip it get it down past a block attempt by River Valley that again is Kelly Lou and we're tied at seven

Todd Coppernoll

Side out

Phil Nee

for the Orioles

Todd Coppernoll

and if you notice none of these teams if they're down four or five points It's not a big deal to them.

They don't panic.

They just continue to

Phil Nee

play no biggie

Here goes the serve by Kendall Sakura of Stanley Boyd Ella Myers digs it Mahoney sets it to the right white takes a shot played left side by Lou back to Richard over the top now River Valley works it again They're taking a shot with Stafford dug in the back row by the Orioles They set it right driving it over there is Lou now is set again Here's a tough one Stafford got it over good dig back row by the Orioles They'll dump it over blocked by River Valley nice blocked by white back to the Orioles.

We're gonna set it up

Todd Coppernoll

white

Phil Nee

gets it

Off a nice set for Mahoney.

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, right off the hands of Eric Cunse's what?

Whatever that one the number six Phil that was a tough one, but anyway right off her hands and it's nice did nice Returns River Valley

Phil Nee

eight seven River Valley.

There's the serve by Stafford Fielded near side by Reed back to the right side taking a shot the Orioles and believe it was tipped by River Valley And it's a point for Stanley boy eight eight score

So far through the first 16 points total pretty even duh

Todd Coppernoll

very But you know it very even and both teams are pretty even

Phil Nee

here's the serve fielded now by Myers There's Mahoney passed to the right side taken a shot is Carly birchfield back row dug there by the Orioles They said it right driving it over and a one-hand save there by Da Vinnie and that's four hits.

It'll be a point for the Orioles

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, pretty pretty good hustle though on the other on the other four there Phil we have Watertown Luther prep 11 and Marathon six winner advances.

Thank you.

I can't see that scoreboard

Phil Nee

Good eyes, man All right, here's the serve by Stanley Boyd fielded by white set by Mahoney Carly birchfield takes a shot it is into the net it looks like And Stanley Boyd leads ten eight here in the opener

Orioles will serve back to do the honors is Kelly Lou the senior five nine player plays all the way around

Serves it from the right side pulls it right nice dig there by River Valley free ball back Orioles block it back to River Valley Here is Carly Birchfield getting it over Lou with a dig There is a set on the outside taking a shot and dug back row by Da Vinnie back to Birchfield Carly drives it over again the Orioles set it play to right side by River Valley They get it back to the left played by Sakura We're gonna set it up right pulling it down the line and getting it in is Amanda Lou

Todd Coppernoll

Nice shot, but I tell you

what

Todd Coppernoll

Good defense by the Vinnie.

She's she's on that back row and she's very good defense

Phil Nee

Burr Valley does a good job that we saw him serve receive so well against Cambridge They do a lot of good digging back there, but I need it again today Here's the sir fielded by white Mulhoney sets it back to Haley birchfield her shot into the net that's four hits and a point for Stanley boy.

They're gonna take a time out here 12-8

River Valley timeout opener of the state semifinal division three action today on wrco and wrco.com.

Todd Coppernoll

I have I have

Phil Nee

here's the serve by Kylie Smith Fielded near side by the Orioles passed to the left taking a shot there is Lou It's gonna be blocked by River Valley white drops it in Brooklyn light with a nice play

Todd Coppernoll

Brooklyn

Phil Nee

lights had a couple of nice points here for River Valley 1310 Black Rocks Trail served by Kylie Smith Fielded now by Lou passed to the right side taken a shot over the top right side dug by Da Vinnie Mahoney back to Carly Burchfield shot up blocked by the Orioles but on their side of the net it lands in a River Valley scores again I

Here's the serve played right side free ball over by the Orioles taken by the Black Hawks passed to the right side to Vinnie to Myers back row attack dug back here by Lou Back to the right side for the Orioles and down it goes on the hit by sister Amanda Lou

After the dig by Kelly I

Todd Coppernoll

tell you what they're right there after that line on that side They just they attack that this is like the third pointer.

Phil Nee

You're right.

They are attacking the left line.

No doubt All right, so the serve for Stanley Boyd of the Clover belt West Here's the serve dug by the Vinnie Mahoney sets it up and Smith gets it over on hit number three Orioles dig it past the left side Kelly Lew drives it back line out of bounds and it's a point for River Valley

That'll make it 14 12 WI 8 tournament action here today Good to see Todd Clark here.

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, tough.

That was a tough one just went off her hands wrong way and Went to the back court instead of the front so

Phil Nee

such a game of interest

Todd Coppernoll

isn't it?

Phil Nee

The Orioles will serve number two Megan Pilgrim their setter is back to serve River Valley and serve receive mode and Here's the serve gonna be dug by Ella Myers and there's a low pass nobody there to get it.

It's a point for the Orioles

Todd Coppernoll

As that was a tough one to dig to it's coming right at her and how do you go under?

Yes,

Phil Nee

caught her in between 16 13 Stanley Boyd

Pilgrim with the serve fielded by Myers now to Mahoney back to Ella drives It's blocked by the Orioles back to River Valley.

Mahoney dumps it over on hit number two Here's the set taking it down the line.

It's a point for

Todd Coppernoll

River Valley Yeah, great defense by both teams especially at the net.

I mean it just it doesn't faze them at all.

Phil Nee

Nope being down doesn't faze them in fact I think River Valley plays better when

Todd Coppernoll

they're

Phil Nee

behind

So Divini will serve 16 14 Stanley Boyd River Valley with a side out Here's the serve dug near side by Lou quick set power tip dropping it in is kiss a witch and that'll make it a 17 for lead Layla getting the hit in and side out for the Orioles Starting way back on the back line

The server does doesn't she she does Lou outside the building now brings it to River Valley back row back to Myers in the front slaps it over Here's the set.

They're gonna work it to the left side.

They like that They're gonna get it down on a big hit by Kelly Lou

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, she and she's the one that's been attacking that line over there and she's taken that was a back row attack there I believe I got that one

Phil Nee

right yep Kelly Lou Makes the point and it makes it a four-point lead for the Orioles

1814 they'll serve again to River Valley Serve it on the right side Kylie Smith with a dig to Mahoney in the middle back to the right side Stafford takes a swing it is tipped by the Orioles I believe and

it should be

Phil Nee

a River Valley point 1815 There's paid Stafford again said her vertical leap was like what 26

or 27

Phil Nee

issues all of 5 4 whatever she is Here's the serve by Mahoney

Fielded on the near side by the Orioles back to the left taking a stab at it is Lou blocked by Myers back to the Orioles again They'll go right now dumping it over on the power tip his pilgrim dug by the Vinnie Mahoney gets it over and hit number two Orioles set it left side.

That's going to be a lift called on the Orioles

Todd Coppernoll

Todd Coppernoll

Just looking for that one break there, Phil, and they finally got it

Phil Nee

there.

Absolutely.

Ella Myers getting into the act.

Everywhere she goes she is followed.

You know we saw that in the last two matches They really concentrate on playing her and she got one through

Todd Coppernoll

she did she finally got one through in that

Phil Nee

She'll serve here's the diving dig it's gonna be played by the Orioles pass to the right side driving it over Myers back Romahony left back to Stafford right driving it over ball blocked by the Orioles tip by River Valley and

Todd Coppernoll

out of

Phil Nee

For Stanley boy, we're kind of right in their crowd aren't we yes?

We're we're right in there not kind of we are River Valley is like over by Lambeau field or that far away for their fans Long ways away.

Here's the serve fielded by Myers set by Mahoney left side Stafford for a swing down it goes Paige Stafford 21 17 Pays is gonna be serving here She'll head to the back row number four

River Valley trailing by four here in the opening set at state semi-final action It's the whistle page with the serve cut off on the left side by Reed We're gonna set up Lou Kelly takes a swing back row dug by Stafford Carly birchfield left side Mahoney gets it over on hit number three quick set for the Orioles are gonna get it over Mahoney What a dig back it goes to Stafford Haley birchfield puts it over down it goes 21 18

It's out of bounds

Todd Coppernoll

I think the biggest, the biggest one there was Myers and the back row hitting on that second hit, but she did a really, really nice job

Phil Nee

there.

Yeah, good point.

And Ella Myers, I think maybe her back row play is sometimes

Todd Coppernoll

overlooked.

That was a really, really nice job by Ella.

Phil Nee

Two-point deficit for River Valley Paige Stafford serves again 21 19 Orioles quick said right side Kelly Lou dumps it over backed up by Mahoney Stafford right side Carly Merchfield takes a swing back row fielded by the Orioles back to the middle dropping it over is Ken's lick back to Myers and Mahoney Merchfield drives it over back row to the front left taking a shot the Orioles one hand saved by Stafford Myers Mahoney gets it over again

The Orioles setting it right this time down the line beautiful hit for Ezra friends

Todd Coppernoll

of it 2219 Yeah, she that was a nice hit there.

That was just a shot and And it kind of curved it was like a knuckleball one

Phil Nee

down.

Yeah, we can see it.

Well from here.

All right 2219 Stanley Boyd in the lead of River Valley in the opening set.

Here's the sir

Doug there by White, set by Mahoney.

Back row attack, here's Myers, gets it in!

Todd Coppernoll

From the back row.

That's impressive.

Wow.

Yeah, that was a shot.

And it was on the way down as soon as it left her hand.

Phil Nee

Anna Birchfield rotates out, and coming in is going to be number 22, Kylie Smith.

Great server for River Valley.

Serves it over.

Fielded near side by the Orioles.

They'll set it right.

Taking a shot over the top.

Krenzelik.

One hand saved by Myers.

Mahoney.

Carly Birchfield over the top.

One hand saved by the Orioles.

They'll hit the back row.

Myers all out diving dig.

Dive in he and then over the top for Birchfield.

Here's a quick set.

Back row attack for the Orioles.

Into the net.

Todd Coppernoll

And

Phil Nee

River Valley is within one.

22 21 take a

Todd Coppernoll

timeout here Stanley Boyd

Phil Nee

at the time out here So we'll keep it here for this one River Valley It just again seems like they play better from behind and they're never fazed never fazed and they just keep going and going and going At one point it was 20 to 15 that it was 21 16 and now 22 21 River Valley trails

Todd Coppernoll

and they just keep coming at you they just

And kudos to Stanley Boyd.

I mean, because their front row play is just as good as River Valley.

It's just going to be who's going to make the less mistakes and who's going to find that weak spot in the defense.

Phil Nee

I think Stanley Boyd, I think maybe even like Cambridge a little bit, kind of surprised some of these are coming back

Todd Coppernoll

to him.

Yes.

Yes.

That's how I feel as well.

Phil Nee

Back to serve is Kylie Smith River Valley trails by a point to the opening set today 22 21 Stanley Boyd the Orioles.

This is only the first set right stay tuned for news at noon next Kylie Smith with a serve back to the right side

Fielded now to Lou on the right.

She's gonna softly dump it over River Valley plays it There's Smith Divini gets it over on hit number three quick set for the Orioles again going on the right side driving it over backed up by Smith played by Divini shot by Carly Birchfield blocked back by the Orioles now to Divini Here's Birchfield dumping it over back row for the Orioles They set it left side taking an angle Divini gets the dig in the back row River Valley tries it again for the middle white derives it over fielded by the Orioles again going left Lou with a

Shot blocked by River Valley and out of bounds on a tip by the Orioles.

Tie ball game filled 22-22.

Opening set here River Valley.

Now with the serve can take the lead.

All the way back from five points down left.

Here goes Kylie Smith.

22 a piece.

Here's the serve.

Pulls it near side.

Lew with the play.

Setting it up.

Kelly Lew drops it over.

Back row to Vinnie River Valley now to Carly Burchfield takes a swing that was in the net a point for Stanley boy So

Todd Coppernoll

yeah, you know, it's it's one of those things that River Valley doesn't phase them because they're kind of short and they expect the balls to be come back But Stanley Boyd's like oh my gosh, these guys

Phil Nee

They're working hard here goes the serve by Reed on the bounds were tied again That wasn't even close.

No

23 23 a lot of excitement on the other court

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, my marathon is actually taking the lead on the Watertown look eight to seven in the second set

Phil Nee

23 23 here in the first set.

There's the serve by River Valley to Stanley Boyd.

We're gonna set it up on the right side taking a swing getting it down is number three Layla Chesowitz.

She's really played well

Todd Coppernoll

and she has

Phil Nee

game point for Stanley Boyd River Valley

They've been in this spot before.

Oh, yes.

Serve received mode.

Serving will be Megan Pilgrim for the Orioles to River Valley.

Backside is going to be Smith.

Here's Mahoney setting up Myers.

Taking it over.

Diving dig by the Orioles.

They'll get it over to the back row.

Smith.

Oh, no.

And now Mahoney and diving in.

They're little miscommunications.

Tafts couldn't get it.

And that's a

Phil Nee

point.

And a win for Stanley Boyd, the opener.

25 23 little

Todd Coppernoll

miscommunication I think it was it was and I don't think she was expecting that at all and not you know it happens

Phil Nee

So a win for Stanley boy, but it's only the beginning the first one is done We'll be back with set number two coming up next WIAA state semifinal volleyball this morning from WRCO and WRCO dot com

The win for Stanley Boyd in the opener over River Valley.

But never fear River Valley fans in Southwest Wisconsin.

River Valley was down to Cambridge, 1-0.

They were down to Verroqua 1-0.

When

Todd Coppernoll

they're down to center and no.

Phil Nee

They lost to Richland Center a set.

I can't remember.

That's a lot

Todd Coppernoll

of matches.

But I tell you, it doesn't faze them.

No.

It doesn't at all.

Phil Nee

And they're putting the ball back quite well.

We've got ourselves a slugfest here today in the opener.

All right.

Kelly Lou with three kills in an ace leading the way to victory for Stanley Boyd first served halves drives it over We're underway in the second played by the Orioles left side from the back row driving it over his Kelly Lou Here's to Vinnie setting it up Carly Burgefield drives it back row dug there by Reed Reed right side to Lou and the ball is up blocked by River Valley But it's a two double hit there for the Orioles River Valley leads one nothing River Valley led by

Three kills in a block from Ella Myers and two kills from Paige Stafford in that opener.

Braylon Taft serves it.

Near side fielded by the Orioles.

They'll go on the run.

Shot is over blocked.

Mahoney and Myers gets it over and hit number three, but it's out of bounds.

Todd Coppernoll

Just a little tough on that one.

Yep are a little strong I should say but a great ball is to start it's one to one

Phil Nee

Yeah, one to one ball game and coming back in for Stanley boy number eight Elena Knitz on the left side serving now is Megan Pilgrim Pilgrim back row It's played by Smith set by Mahoney on the run dumping it over his alamires feel the right side going now for the hit backside It's gonna be down for Elena Knitz and they take a 2-1 lead

That was a hit.

Todd Coppernoll

Wow.

That was a

Phil Nee

hit.

I am proud to say this River Valley's been the state four times I've called all four

Todd Coppernoll

times awesome.

So

Phil Nee

we were last year in 2005 and Kind of in the same spot.

So we're up in the rafters.

Here's the ball on the left side played by the Orioles driving it over back row diving dig They can't get it driving out by right between Divini and and

Tafts and it went down.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes, it did and it went one of those knuckleballs again filled just went straight down after a passing

Phil Nee

Here goes pilgrim to serve again.

It is three to one Stanley boy Here's the dig by Smith back to Mahoney Meyers drives over got it down Ella fooled him that

Todd Coppernoll

time.

Yes, you did I didn't think that was gonna go down, but it just it went straight down Nice job Ella So a

Phil Nee

serve for River Valley Bella to Vinny to do that

I hear the last time Jesse Benson Mattia Manskey players like that were here for River Valley had a great They made it to the final that year Got beat by Wapan that year.

Here's the serve right side taking a shot out of bounds the Orioles they're asking if it was tipped the officials say no Point River Valley

Todd Coppernoll

were time.

I

Phil Nee

didn't

Todd Coppernoll

think it was

Phil Nee

tipped either three to three These are Bob Yooker seats.

Oh, you know,

he missed the

Phil Nee

tag.

He missed the

Phil Nee

tag He tipped it she tipped it

Here's the serve by Divini fielded back row diving dig by Reed back to the right side shot up blocked by River Valley Didn't hit the block it hit the net four

Todd Coppernoll

Yes

Phil Nee

So River Valley is bounced back to lead four to three Bella Divini will serve Back to the back row

Couple of dribbles coming up with that left-handed knuckleball ball to the right side played by Lou quick set of the middle dumped over softly by the Orioles kept live backline Smith diving in can't get it.

It's a point for the Orioles

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, there's a tough volley for River Valley just Nothing went their way to just from the start

Phil Nee

for four game You notice that a lot of those soft taps that go in another matches there and go into the floor very

Todd Coppernoll

often today

Phil Nee

Here's the serve by the Orioles there's an ace.

That's their fourth ace of the day

That makes it 5-4

Todd Coppernoll

Good

Phil Nee

serve by Lou.

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, Lucy.

She's got some serious There's some serious hum on that one.

Phil Nee

I'd like to be standing there trying to feel that

Todd Coppernoll

one.

I wouldn't Let's add a glove on maybe

Phil Nee

Lou with the serve that one is way too long She had a lot of pepper on that one, but it goes out of bounds We're tied at five Stanley Boyd wins the opener 25 23 we're tied at five in the second here if he gets joining us

The sir for River Valley Lawrence said Josie Mahoney the senior pops it back row dug there by Reed Back to the left side taking

Todd Coppernoll

a

Phil Nee

shot over and got taffs kind of tried to block it out Got her kind of in the

Todd Coppernoll

head.

I think you got her right in the face

Phil Nee

She's all right.

They check on her.

That's a point for Stanley Boyd six to five

Todd Coppernoll

That's a tough ball right there

Phil Nee

Serving again the Orioles to the Blackhawks battle of the birds here

Todd Coppernoll

did it

Phil Nee

is

Here's the approach in the serve back row taffs passes to Mahoney Sets it to Myers Alice swings it over kept by by the Orioles ball is up blocked by Myers back to the Orioles back to River Valley Here's Mahoney Myers softly over and down it goes or is it?

Yes, they call it down.

They know they called it down.

Okay a point for River Valley They kept playing it so we're tied again at six

Hello Myers making her presence known to the front row now.

She's in the back row Six to six here in the second Ella's serve a soft one right in the middle fielded by Lou to the right side Kelly Lou down the line Oh burns it right down the line.

Todd Coppernoll

That's a point

Phil Nee

seven six One of those in baseball would say the ball had eyes.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes, because it was right there

Phil Nee

Sir for Stanley Boyd

River Valley and serve received mode Stanley Boyd with a serve barely makes the net nice dig there by Stafford back to the right side driving it over.

It's in River Valley That was Brooklyn white.

Yes, it was and we're tied at seven White tell you what she always makes her presence

Todd Coppernoll

know when she's out there too doesn't she

Phil Nee

Here goes Paige Stafford to serve

Birchfield sisters in the front row along with Brooklyn light.

Here's the set by the Orioles.

I'll take a shot and that one goes in

Todd Coppernoll

Big hit by Kelly Lou.

I tell you what now She can put it down to Phil

Phil Nee

eight seven So the Orioles will serve again Kelly Lou is back to serve

Much like a wrestling tournament you hear whistles and it's not the match or the thing you're watching here's a net serve point River Valley Back to even at eight.

That's probably the shortest volley we had all day.

I think it is The others you could time with a sand hourglass River Valley will serve again Kylie Smith feels it Passed to the net now.

Here's Kelly Lou dropping it over diving pancake effort can't get it

Awesome effort by Carly Birchfield, but it's a point for Stanley Boyd.

They go up nine eight Serving is Megan Pilgrim nine eight Orioles leading the Blackhawks.

Todd Coppernoll

a point.

They don't get stirred.

They just play.

Yep.

They just, you wouldn't know if they're winning or losing.

You

Phil Nee

would not know.

By looking at their faces anytime this year.

Here's the serve.

Fielded back row by Smith.

Here's the set by Mahoney, dumping it in.

Oh, White hit the net, and that's a point for the Orioles.

Todd Coppernoll

but it's yeah, I tell you there's some kettle corn out there.

That's my daughter.

He was favorite

Item is cattle

Phil Nee

have to take her home some

Todd Coppernoll

well We can we can attempt to fill

Phil Nee

Bali is underway past to the right side lose shot up

Todd Coppernoll

in the

Phil Nee

net and River Valley gets a point

Todd Coppernoll

I think that was a block on white though.

I think she returned that

Phil Nee

did you I think she did from my standpoint looked like it never got that high But whatever happens, it's still a River Valley point, right?

I'm looking for give it to white Tafts will serve

For the Blackhawks.

Braylon Tafts the senior.

Nice job on the serve.

Here's the set right side.

Taking it over.

Tipped by River Valley, Divini.

Diving effort.

Tafts back row can't get it.

And it's down for a point for the Orioles.

Todd Coppernoll

Well Taft's a hustler, isn't she?

She is.

She is a hustler.

Phil Nee

Yep.

Her grandpa hustles out at the River Valley Gardens from time

Todd Coppernoll

to

Phil Nee

time.

So we see him a couple of times a year.

Here's the serve.

Back row, gonna be fielded by Smith.

Here's Mahoney, Myers swings, driving it back over the Orioles, back to Taft's back row.

Over that time by DaVini on the second hit.

Quick set on the outside, driving it over and it is out of bounds on the shot by Knitz, River Valley Point.

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, nice shot.

Nice let go by her.

I thought she's gonna nab it at first.

Phil Nee

12-10 must be a big match Troy Matz is here.

Oh, yeah,

Todd Coppernoll

yeah,

Phil Nee

isn't it?

Troy Matz with taking pictures there as he does for the paper.

He gets better seats than we do.

Yeah, what's going on?

Here's the serve.

There's the dig.

Here's the set Orioles drive it over played back row there by DaVini back to the right Stafford takes it over dug now by Lou on the right side knits for the hit back row played by Smith Mahoney sets it right paid Stafford dumps it over fielded now on the near side now they go left

Hallelu down it goes River Valley was not ready for that

Todd Coppernoll

one were not I think the defense started shifting to the left and back to the right and then the left and they got hung up in there so

So the

Phil Nee

serve goes again to Stanley Boyd leading 1310 again they won the opener 25 23 in this best of five There's the sir fielded by Smith sent for Myers takes a swing tipped by the Orioles They'll keep it going try it again on the right side shot up blocked by River Valley kept live Orioles can't get it over that was Smith and Mahoney nice job on the block That'll make it 1311

Boy you should have brought some brew haha roasters coffee today.

Phil Nee

are they up to nothing

Todd Coppernoll

as they

Phil Nee

are okay Here's the serve left side back row pushing it over as Amanda Lou now blocked by Myers back to the Orioles again They'll set it on the right side shot up blocked by Myers.

It's a River Valley point 13 12 Ella Myers making her presence known

Josie Mahoney the singing setter Back to the back row.

Why did she do a

Todd Coppernoll

nice job?

My goodness today with miss crown as well.

Well, they did an awesome.

I wish we could get that Here's

Phil Nee

the serve all right side driven down by Lou in front of Braille and taffs you try to make a diving dig

Todd Coppernoll

I wish we could get that audio.

I don't know if we can

Phil Nee

14-12.

Yeah, unfortunately, they did it earlier than we expected So we weren't here yet by that point But I know that they sang it last year for the state wrestling tournament.

Well, they boy they can sing

Here's the serve left side played now by Divini set by Mahoney.

Here's the shot into the net there on the attempt by The black Hawks that was number 10 Ashland Stokes and now Rotating back in his Hanna birchfield So that'll be a point 15-12 for the Orioles side out Stanley Boyd The serve by do common played on the right side by Myers staffer to the middle gets it over

Fielded left side they're gonna go again.

They love that right outside Kelly Lou drops it over Mahoney Myers gets it over.

Here's a set on the outside again Kelly Lou down the line Here's a nice dig by taffs back to Myers dumps it over one hand saved by the Orioles Pushed over by Pilgrim back row taffs to Mahoney right side Stafford.

Yes

Todd Coppernoll

There's Paige and that that's her spot right there is that is the left side they made hay with that against Cambridge.

They did

15-13 I should say River Valley's left side, you know, that's yeah page is really good at that spot

Phil Nee

So it's white Hannah Birchfield and Stafford in the front row right now Myers back row along with Mahoney and Divini Here's the serve by Myers didn't net serve played on the left side kept live punching it over there Stanley Boyd Divini now to Mahoney who dumps it back row to the Orioles They'll set it to the outside Lou takes it over and down

Todd Coppernoll

Todd Coppernoll

No comment from me You thought it was in I thought it was in

Phil Nee

1713 I really

Todd Coppernoll

I thought I thought that they tipped it and it came back I thought I actually thought it was in

Phil Nee

I couldn't really tell here's the serve River Valley setting it left side taking a shot down the line nice hit by white kept by by the Orioles they're gonna hit the antenna I believe that's a violation 1714 side out River Valley Three-point edge right now for Stanley Boyd page Stafford will serve

Birchfield sisters in the front row along with Brooklyn white here is the serve by Stafford set by the Orioles to the outside Lou takes it back row one hand save no attempt Myers almost got it but it drops in

Todd Coppernoll

she was spread out all the way out that was a nice hustle by Myers though

Phil Nee

1814 Hank and I will be taking the pedal a helicopter back to Ithaca when this one is done.

Yeah, you're ready.

Todd Coppernoll

I'm ready buddy You didn't see one hearties

Yeah, we didn't even see until we passed it Lou with the serve that's out of bounds I think that's our second one in a row this week to go out of bounds

Phil Nee

so it makes it 1815 side out River Valley they trail by three and Kylie Smith is in to do the honors

Number 22 for River Valley.

Todd Coppernoll

She does a nice job back there.

Phil Nee

Here's the sir fielded now by stick Korra back to the right side shot by Orioles tip by River Valley and down it goes.

It'll be a point for Stanley Boyd Big hit by Layla Clisiewicz.

We called her name or in the first set

Todd Coppernoll

It looked like kind of a ping-pong ball.

I hear a couple Black Hawk players and one of them

It

Phil Nee

was hit hard.

Yes, it was here's the serve dug by Smith Mahoney sets it shot by Carly Birchfield played by the Orioles back to the middle.

They take a shot.

It's out of bounds point for River Valley 1916 Stanley Boyd by three Side out River Valley back in to do the honors is Braylon taffs number eight

With a hand up comes up with the right hand serve nice one over the net left side It goes to the right and taking a shot is pilgrim now River Valley responds shot is up tipped by the Orioles They're gonna pass it left side and going down with a shot is Lou nice dig by taffs right side Birchfield drives it over Orioles get the set taking a shot is Lou and down it goes Amanda Lou the sophomore

Todd Coppernoll

20 to 16 now those little girls are pretty good on that on the left side of their offense But you know it's really amazing though if you watch River Valley about some of those balls going to the line They're very very patient of not hitting them if they think they're going out

Phil Nee

that just comes from years and years of experience Playing together.

Here's the serve right side.

It's gonna be dug there by Myers Mahoney Birchfield dumps it over kept by by the Orioles.

They can't get it over nice hit

by Carly Birchfield who rotates out.

She was really injured and struggled to not play in the match with Richeln Center, but did play a bit against Verrocco and really helped lift him right.

20 to 17, three-point set.

River Valley will serve.

Here's the serve by Divini, fielded by the Orioles.

Left side, they're going to get it to the net, hanging up there, blocked over by Myers, back to the Orioles.

They go outside, taking a shot as Lou.

To the right side for River Valley, Stafford shot is up, blocked there by Pilgrim.

Now back to the right side, taking a shot, River Valley, back row.

There's Kelly Liu.

Right side taking a shot over his knits, diving dig River Valley.

Mahoney plays the carom, Smith gets it over.

Quick set, power tip, ball blocked by Myers.

Down it goes.

And they called a double hit before that, didn't they?

Yeah, they did.

2018, River Valley's within two.

Alan DaVini.

Will serve Bella junior River Valley down by two this important second set there it is Fielded back row there by Lou Reed to the right side taking a shot as Amanda Lou nice dig by Mahoney Passed now by Divini knuckled over by Stafford

Back row to the left side read dumped over by the Orioles kept by by the Vinny Myers and now taffs gets it over quick set right side down for the Orioles That was Amanda Lou again that makes it 21 18

Todd Coppernoll

Wow, well they got some swing on that ball don't

Phil Nee

they Amanda has one two three four five no four kills in an ace So she the softwares had a big set

She serves.

That one is out of bounds.

Right back to River Valley.

Todd Coppernoll

21-19.

That was Amanda and her sister Kelly.

They have a problem getting them down on the serve.

Phil Nee

Well, when it's in, it's in, but there's a little risk and reward there.

All right, here we go.

The serve for Mahoney.

River Valley.

Nice dig by Liu.

Passed to the right side taking a shot getting it down is number three Leila Cliso it's I

Todd Coppernoll

think it's off the arms of Myers there 22

Phil Nee

19 Leila put a swing into it.

That's for sure good Side out Stanley Boyd again.

They won the opener 25 23 they leave in the second 22 19 Here comes the approach

And the serve to River Valley taffs back row gonna be divini and now over by Mahoney on hit number three quick set To the left side taking a shot block by really

Todd Coppernoll

down it goes nice job Nice job by River Valley at

Phil Nee

the front there Ella Myers and Hannah Birchfield teaming for that one 22 20 what a set here again Ella Myers will serve

Coach morale given her the direction.

Here's the serve pulls it to the right side Set in the middle dumping it over is number six Kensalic right side for River Valley Stafford shot blocked by the Orioles down it goes Ezra Crimson look with the block kill 23 20 Side out for the Orioles timeout River Valley.

We'll keep it here for this one.

That was a good timeout by Mariah

23 20 right I mean you've got to use them if you

Todd Coppernoll

can if you need them and you can't take them with you And she usually they usually come back good after a time out

Phil Nee

good point.

Yeah volleyball is an interesting sport that way volleyball timeouts It seems like it rejuvenates right and a lot of times maybe you can't even get it over the net You take a break in your world beaters

Todd Coppernoll

next time you come back and score four or five and and you know they After every time out she's called to come back and play really well.

That's what they're

Phil Nee

hoping happens right here

Evenly matched set here again in this one three points separate them 23 20 You know

Todd Coppernoll

and they give her they give her a minute, but only she who's about 30 seconds That's about all she needs.

Yeah

Phil Nee

with a veteran group like this.

Todd Coppernoll

Oh my

Phil Nee

goodness They've been through it before they don't need to be told much other than I think it's just to kind of calm

Todd Coppernoll

that There we go, you know

Phil Nee

another game take a breath.

Yep So this is an important point though

You don't want Stanley boy to get the game point here.

So River Valley trying to avoid that down by three twenty three twenty Here's the serve by Sakura Myers gets the dig got the shot over they're gonna say it's in hit the line Wow Ella Myers Dug it and it came back on the Orioles side and lands in bow.

Todd Coppernoll

I don't know how that happened, but you know what?

Hey that matters two points now

Phil Nee

twenty three twenty one big point twenty three twenty one Paige Stafford will serve pulls it down the middle

Fielded now by Reed.

Quick set.

Taking a shot there is Crenzelik.

Fielded by River Valley.

Back to the right side.

Birchfield dumps

it

Phil Nee

over.

Got it in!

23-22.

Carly Birchfield.

Getting in the act with a nice one.

Timeout Stanley Boyd.

So these timeouts again as you mentioned rejuvenated River Valley.

They did they're back within one twenty three twenty two Stanley Boyd in the lead On the other floor Watertown is kind of making a really quick night.

Todd Coppernoll

It looks like they are there up 12 to 8 right now I say

Phil Nee

night.

I don't know if it's night or morning.

Todd Coppernoll

I don't either.

It doesn't matter Phil.

We're here We haven't seen the Sun yet put it that

Phil Nee

way.

No, no

Todd Coppernoll

And I don't know if you're gonna see until we get back to which and center where you've been sleeping.

Phil Nee

Maybe yeah getting my rest in

Todd Coppernoll

yeah That's all right here.

I'm here for you buddy.

Phil Nee

I appreciate that.

Yeah, yeah

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, so anyway, may only a Frisco burger today.

Whoo-hoo are just two singles, please.

Phil Nee

Okay Yeah, you're you're watching your way instead of a double just do two singles singles good idea 23-22 River Valley with a

Timeout that netted them two points Stanley Boyd hoping that they can do the same River Valley trying to tie things up Paige Stafford will serve here It is plays it down the middle feel to there by Reed right side on the run taking a swing and getting it in is Ken's luck and its game point for Stanley Boy 24 22 Ezra crins look with a kill Now River Valley no room for error

Todd Coppernoll

on

this one

Phil Nee

Two-point lead for Stanley Boyd Here's the jump serve back row the Vinnie Myers way back now to the front Mahoney gets it over Back row the Orioles quick set on the right side going for the kill Myers got a piece of it Mahoney way back by the fans now Myers gets it over again left side Lou They're gonna go for the win on the right taking it over and tip by River Valley That's a point for Stanley Boyd and they win

Going up 25 22 in the match on the kill by number zero Amanda Lou River Valley to down they've got their work cut out

Todd Coppernoll

here.

They were cut out But you know again if anybody can do it's gonna be River Valley.

I would not count them out I would never count these girls up

Phil Nee

two points up here Stanley Boyd We'll be back after a two-minute timeout with more on WRCO and WRCO comm

Ithica Weston plays host to Iowa Grant tonight in level 3 WIAA football playoff action.

Travis Wilson from Bound, Wisconsin saw Ithica Weston come from behind to defeat Black Hawk Warren 18-16 last Friday night.

It was a great game and quite honestly it felt there for a little while like Black Hawk was going to run away with it.

I don't know if you kind of got that feeling when

Blackhawk had went up 16-nothing.

It was, you know, not going great for it at that time.

They hadn't really gotten a ton going offensively, but they found a way and obviously turned to the passing attack a little bit more.

That was what felt like it sparked things a little bit and that Keller to Keller connection, you know, was really good.

Phil Nee

It is survival of the fittest when you get to the third level, isn't it?

It is.

You know, there's eight teams left in each division at this point.

So,

You're talking about the best of the best.

There will be a few lopsided scores here or there around the state.

But by and large, I mean, you're playing a really good team.

You have to be a good team to win two playoff games.

And so it's nothing but good matchups from here on out.

Phil Nee

Phil Nee

Yeah breakfast of champions

Todd Coppernoll

you started talking about Frisco burgers

Phil Nee

Here's the serve played on the near side by Lou back to the right taking a shot blocked by River Valley.

That's out of bounds two to one

Stanley Boyd is on the board.

That was one of your famous calls in Ithaca's 2023 state championship run in that 10 inning game in the semi-final The most exciting point you were out buying a hot dog, you know, so it is what it is Here's the serve set to the left side here is Myers dumping it down the line played there by Reed back to the middle Softly tapped over Myers and company somehow got that over right side taking a shot the Orioles they got it through the block

That Kelly Lou That makes it two to two I that that's saved there by River Valley.

I think Myers actually kicked

Todd Coppernoll

that

Phil Nee

ball.

I think she did to keep it going which is legal All right Stanley Boyd will try again.

There's the serve.

Oh, wow.

What a beautiful ace It goes right down for a man to Lou and that makes it three to two Wow

That was pretty there was no really very much room that it River Valley had the back line

Todd Coppernoll

played

Phil Nee

so well They had one shot

Todd Coppernoll

and that's where they could put

Phil Nee

it.

There's the serve deck by Tafts River Valley can't feel the pass and 4 to 2 now Stanley Boyd in the third set Amanda Lou will serve From the near side to the far side River Valley and serve receive mode Franks one Smith trying to get under it can't that's an ace that'll make it 5-2

That was a big hit nice shot Good good hustle in the defense just couldn't get pick it up

Phil Nee

That makes it 6-2.

That

Todd Coppernoll

was already

Phil Nee

over, Hank.

Wow.

They're up two sets to none on River Valley.

25-23, 25-22, the score so far.

6-2 here in the third ball to the right side up blocked by Stanley Boyd back to River Valley Mahoney Myers dumps it over fielded now by Reed gets it right back takes a shot back row taps good dig Mahoney right side Smith gets it over on hit number three Reed back to the left side taking a shot is Lou blocked back by Myers again Stanley Boyd takes a shot that one is down for number nine Kelly

Todd Coppernoll

Lou I tell you what she just come it keeps coming at you doesn't she I mean they just keep setting

Setting her up and setting

Phil Nee

her up and boy.

Oh boy Yeah, they kind of got the rhythm down.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes, they

Phil Nee

do I don't think they were that smooth in the first set, but they've gotten it down in the third Five-point lead for the Orioles serve back line Smith pops it to the right side Mahoney now Stafford takes it over the top right side dug by Reed Set up to the left side shot out of bounds by Stanley Boyd Kelly Lou hit it a little bit long Merrily missing Todd Clark.

Yeah, almost got him didn't he?

73 River Valley side out senior Josie Mahoney will serve Josie comes up.

There is the serve fielded near side by Lou Back to the right taking a shot into the net for the Orioles two points in a row for the Black Rocks There's a start

Todd Coppernoll

Todd Clark will be dearly messed when he retires that he definitely will he's kind of like one of the old-school guys, you know, I just

Phil Nee

yep

Treated as well Randy Allen is the man that that ran at the fort Todd did we love Randy too?

Here's the serve cut up to the right side Orioles take it over diving dig River Valley can't plant It's a point for Stanley Boyd and they lead eight to four side out Orioles Coming to serve number five Jalen Decommon Back row specialist River Valley and serve receive mode

Good coming with the serve feel the left side by Stafford now passed by Tafts Hannah birchfield takes it over left side Orioles there's at the net Myers blocked it down Hannah had a nice

Todd Coppernoll

hit there too.

I thought that was heading down

Phil Nee

I did too Orioles left that set up just a little bit too high and Myers was she was lurking.

Yes.

Yes

Phil Nee

three points at eight five Myers will serve

Here River Valley just one point at a time and see what happens.

Here's the serve.

Here's the Orioles setting it They like that right side.

They drive it over to Vinnie with the call and it's a net violation of

Todd Coppernoll

River Valley

Phil Nee

I Think a number three is that miss white that'd be Brooklyn white.

Yeah, okay nine five Orioles lead by four here in the set set number three

Orioles will serve again stepping up now is Sakura drives it over free ball back on a nice dig there by Myers And they'll set it up again drive back row Ella Myers gets the dig and the Orioles play the carom that ball pushed over by white Brooklyn white gets a point nine six

Todd Coppernoll

She's an athlete, isn't

Phil Nee

she?

Yeah

Todd Coppernoll

boy,

Phil Nee

I tell you the valley's got some

Todd Coppernoll

players that can jump yes, they do

Phil Nee

jump out of the gym

Paid Stafford back row.

Here's the serve and a net serve gives a point right back to Stanley Boyd.

That makes it 10-6 To volleyball court, so reduce it down to one for the championship tomorrow Here at the rush center.

Todd Coppernoll

Do they move this to the middle or just have it on

Phil Nee

yeah, they move it to the middle right here's the serve Myers lets it go wisely.

So it's out of bounds I Think they put the point on the wrong side.

Yeah, they did now.

It's 10-7

Three point match three points that I should say here in the third Stanley Boyd has won the first two Smith with the serve Fielded near side diving dig there by the Orioles.

They'll set it up taking a shot over the top that time by Krenzelik Mahoney sets up Birchfield Carly gets it over down it goes Couldn't handle it.

Nice job That makes it ten eight on the kill by Carly Birchfield Kylie Smith will serve again

Here the River Valley fans in the background trying to will the team to a win Here's the serve near side Lou gets it right back takes a swing down the line.

It's in 11 8 that was Amanda Lou with kill River Valley setting up now on the serve receive Here comes the approach line drive serve left side

Fielded by Smith set by Mahoney shot by Birchfield tipped by the Orioles Here's the set right side taken over blocked by River Valley back to the Orioles again Here's the ball to the right side.

It's Smith Mahoney taking it left Birchfield takes it over what a swing Oh played back row by the Orioles driven over by a mandaloo Here is River Valley's turn Mahoney right side white takes it over down it goes 11 9 They just keep fighting

Yep, and Braylon taffs will serve a lot of heart a lot of heart Most definitely they will take a chance now down by two in the third set There it is played right side by Stanley Boyd quick set and Lou takes a swing and got it down 12 9

That is the sophomore Amanda Lou has been very impressive here today Think about teams in the clover belt West they're gonna have to face her for

Todd Coppernoll

two more years.

I had to face her sister and her not this year

Phil Nee

Here goes Megan Pilgrim with the serve to River Valley fielded by Kylie Smith Josie Mahoney sets it back Carly Birchfield shot up blocked by the Orioles back to River Valley Da Vinnie Smith hits it into the net as she tried to go left

13 9 Orioles get another point and they will serve

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah, you know River Valley just needs to not overplay here.

Just relax

Phil Nee

Orioles with the approach serve left side played by Carly birchfield now to Mahoney who dumps it over Fielded by the right side Lou sisters going over now to Vinnie with a dig Myers in the middle up ball blocked River Valley gets it back to many gets it over and

Ball to the right side again taking a swing and down it goes for Krenzelik 14 9

Todd Coppernoll

when they got a tough front row don't they

Phil Nee

they Definitely do what the other thing that's impressed me about Stanley Boyd You notice how many times they play the carom off the net

Todd Coppernoll

a lot of

Phil Nee

teams can't

Todd Coppernoll

do that Yeah, they do they play a nice job, but it's been their fun three is pretty good.

Phil Nee

Here's the serve Myers Here's the set quick set power tip over the top by Myers down

Todd Coppernoll

it

Phil Nee

goes How many times have we seen that in the last four years?

14-10 Mahoney and Myers team up for lots of points Serving is Bella Divini Divini looking for guidance from the bench on where to go with it The left hander serves it to the right side Lou gets the dig gets it right back shot is up blocked by River Valley kept live Lou right side punching it over there is crins lick Now the serve the set for Myers down it goes to a row from Mahoney to Myers

There is the serve field in your side cutoff by the Orioles getting it back taking a shot.

It's in what a shot by Layla this which 15 11

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah every

Phil Nee

time River Valley gets a little

Todd Coppernoll

bit of

Phil Nee

a spark There's a play like that, so it makes it a four-point set Orioles with the serve bellowed of any dives Nobody there to get her pass as it goes out of bounds and it's 16 11 Five-point edge for Stanley Boyd here in the third River Valley needs to win three in a row.

They're down by five in the third

But I will tell you this.

If you made it this far, you have nothing to hang your head about.

River Valley played well.

They just...

I think the back row attack wasn't there today like it was on last Saturday.

Phil Nee

And Stanley Boyd returned a lot of them.

Yes, they did.

They did a good job of getting the digs, getting the passing down.

They're a good passing team as well.

And they'll represent tomorrow very well.

I think we got to go Hank with the serving of Amanda Lou.

Yes.

Who has a couple of aces and a couple of really big plays

Todd Coppernoll

down the street.

She had a really big place.

So Amanda Lou is, you know, she probably the MVP of the game here.

And only a sophomore.

Only a sophomore.

She was really, really, but the other kid that I like was that Layla Kuleski.

She, you know, she played the middle that did a really, really nice job for them.

So.

Phil Nee

Well played that's our turning point of the game River Valley fans standing and cheering their teams efforts who will talk more about River Valley and its accomplishments when we return with more

Welcome back to the Rush Center in Green Bay.

This one does not go the way of the Black Hawks Not the way that we were hoping it would go today 25 16 the final in the third set as Stanley Boyd has its most lopsided win led by two kills from Layla Clisiewicz three aces from Amanda Lou in that one as well Which is rare to get that many aces against River

Todd Coppernoll

Valley It is very rare

Phil Nee

and two kills in a block for Ella Myers in her last

high school match.

Coming in, you know, and even after a couple losses, Hank, because we've seen River Valley this year, we were kind of thinking that maybe they still had a shot

Todd Coppernoll

here.

And I believed it all the way to then.

I really did.

I just, it didn't seem like that River Valley was, I don't know, it just seems like they were off just a step.

And maybe that was just me.

It just seems like they were off a step.

But big stage, eight in the morning.

There again, but Stanley board had to play here too, right?

But it just seems like that that the Blackhawks were off just a little bit, you know, especially on the on the receive them,

Phil Nee

right?

And I think that the serving, you know, maybe again, this was one of the harder serving

Todd Coppernoll

teams are going to see them

Phil Nee

and that kind of started it.

Mariah Hill told me that she thought that this team Stanley Boyd was a lot like Platteville.

And of course, River Valley lost twice to Platteville this year.

I saw one of those.

I'm not sure.

I think Stanley Boyd might be better than

Todd Coppernoll

that.

They may

Phil Nee

be.

Todd Coppernoll

Yeah.

Um, but you know, they attack you and, uh, and everybody has a chance to attack you there at the front.

Right.

Exactly.

And that hurt the black box

Phil Nee

today.

Yep.

Not taking anything away

Todd Coppernoll

from the champion.

That's for sure.

Phil Nee

They were up in a division this year.

They lost division two, uh, before they made it to state in case you were wondering River Valley, the runner up in the conference, the Southwest conference this year, uh, the,

end of an era for a lot of seniors and that's the other hard thing when you get this far and you lose.

You say goodbye to some very fine athletes.

We'll talk about that when we return with more of the Golanic Plumbing and Heating Post-Match Show from the Resh Center.

Valley sees its season end here today scores of 25 23 25 22 and 25 16 for the Black Hawks It's been a good ride and we've watched their careers I saw River Valley's first duel of the year against Darlington way back at the end of August and so it's been fun watching them and some real

Thriller-Diller matches, including the previous two, five-set match with Verroqua, five-set match with Cambridge.

The River Valley volleyball careers come to an end for Mackenzie Weaver, Paige Stafford, Braylon Tafts, Ken Lee Straca, Josie Mahoney, Hannah Birchfield, Ella Myers, and Kylie Smith.

That is losing a lot to Graduation Hank.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes, it is.

It's again where I can do it if anybody's gonna do it.

It's gonna be her got a nice program They do have a nice program and volleyball roots run deep in River Valley, and they will be back right they will be back just It's just one of those things that it's time for another youngster to step up.

Phil Nee

Yep

way and we don't get to go to the state level very often so we're appreciative of their efforts this year and getting the chance to be here on the big stage and best of luck to this Stanley Boyd team.

I bet you that's going to be a decent

Todd Coppernoll

match tomorrow.

That should be a decent match.

You know, thanks to the girls for rallying the fans.

But another big special thank you goes out to our sponsors.

much, much of the time people don't understand, but very appreciative of it.

Cause we couldn't do this without them.

Phil Nee

Nope.

Nope.

We'd have to stay home.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes.

And,

Phil Nee

uh, but, uh, grateful that we're able to do that and do what we love and grateful that we have another game

Todd Coppernoll

yet today too.

But you bet.

If we make it in time, I may have to pull over for a nap.

Phil Nee

Yeah, maybe I'd be a, well, if you have that Frisco, two single

Todd Coppernoll

Frisco, you know, you know, you're going to be driving.

Phil Nee

Yeah.

Payback is fear game.

I'll let you sleep.

So anyway, but yeah, we look forward to Ithaca, Weston and Iowa Grant tonight.

And it's going to feel like football, whether

Todd Coppernoll

it's going to feel like football, whether that, but it's okay.

Let's go play.

Phil Nee

Yep.

Going to be a good one tonight at seven o'clock and we'll have it for you on our way from Green Bay Hall.

We're going to stop back in Ithaca.

Todd Coppernoll

Yes, sir.

Yeah.

Stop by before we, before you let me, before you release me for the weekend.

Phil Nee

Oh yeah.

Right.

Yeah.

Well, we might have, you got some dancing to do tomorrow

night.

Oh.

Todd Coppernoll

I'll speed all night tomorrow.

Oh boy.

Yeah.

Maybe we'll give you the night off.

Stanley Boyd advances Hank to play tomorrow

Todd Coppernoll

against Watertown Luther Prep.

So, you know, it's one of those things.

Let's play.

You know, and it's great season for River Valley, but you know, if you're a River Valley fan, you're kind of rooting for Stanley Boyd.

That way it makes you look better.

Phil Nee

Yeah, I'm thinking Stanley Boyd is going to represent pretty

Todd Coppernoll

well.

Yeah, I think they will.

I think that would be a classic match tomorrow.

I had the chance this week to talk to Ithaca Western assistant coach Marcus McCauley from Western schools and we talked about facing Iowa Grant and how Ithaca Western has to try and shut down that pass.

Yeah, and especially coming off the game against Black Hawk last week where it was run, run, run, completely different game plan this week.

Iowa Grant likes to throw it all over the field and when they're not throwing it, the quarterback takes off running.

So we got to prepare for both sides of the ball there.

Yeah, right.

I mean, if you can try to shut down one of those aspects of the game, I don't know how easy that is, though, is it?

Yeah, especially, you know, we don't face a lot of half-heavy teams.

So that's been kind of the focus this week of, you know, are we going to play the owner?

Are we going to play man?

What's going to work best for us where?

And then also remembering, you know, he got number five coming out of the backfield, too.

So being able to know your assignments and know what you're doing each play.

When you look at what you guys were able to do against Blackhawk, a real lesson when you're down 16 to nothing, what did you tell the team or what were you talking about among the coaches?

Yeah, I mean we knew kind of coming into the game we were going to have to throw a little bit more than we normally do.

We didn't come out guns ablaze and throw in the ball though.

We wanted to stick to our game plan and then

You know, we kind of figured that it was going to be a higher scoring game and that we were just going to have to stop Black Hawk once or twice.

But it came out a little differently, which is fine.

But then at halftime, you know, we're kind of in the locker room, we're locked down, and the guys just seemed kind of out of it.

We're like, guys, we're only down one score right now.

And, you know, we got Mojo going back.

And then, of course, to give up the touchdown right away, I started the second half.

And then it was finally like, OK.

It's go time now, and the kids stepped up and did what they needed to do.

Yeah, that was a real key drive after they scored that second touchdown that you were able to drive down and get that score.

Otherwise, the game could have been different, couldn't

it?

Yeah, you get down three scores, especially in high school football.

It's tough to come back from.

This week is the team

fairly healthy for this time of the season?

Yeah, I'd say we're about as full as we're going to be the rest of the way out here.

Everyone seems in good spirits.

And everyone's been at practice.

It's not just the varsity guys, but the JV guys putting in the effort to give good looks and help the varsity guys understand what their assignments are.

You had good weather all year, and now you've had a little rainy weather this week,

haven't you?

Yeah, I was pretty wet last night at practice.

I will say the positive last night was 60 degrees yet, so it didn't feel too bad.

But yeah, definitely a change of weather after it's been gorgeous.

And we've been in shorts and t-shirts most of

the year.

Well, it's this part of the season.

I'm guessing we could see a few new wrinkles.

But the big thing on Friday night is kind of trying to slow down Iowa Grant.

And I'm guessing time of possession is a big thing, too, for Ithaca Weston, isn't it?

Yeah, I think the goal for us is to move the ball slow and steady and keep that high flying offense off the field as much as possible.

Good leadership, I thought, especially in the comeback last week.

Have you seen that all year?

Oh, yeah.

I mean, we have leadership.

from top to bottom, you know, you always have your senior leaders and then you got some of the underclassmen that are starting both ways and it's never, uh, you know, I'm in charge of you to listen to me.

They work together really well and they each have their, um, aspects that work best for them.

And, and as a whole, the team just, they follow them and that's, it's cool to see.

You know, you never know, going into a game, you think, oh, it's going to be high scoring and then it winds up to be the opposite.

But in this game, there's potential for it to be a high scoring

game, isn't

there?

Absolutely, and I hope it's as low a scoring as it was last week because I think that opens it up.

But if they're going to put up 30 points, then we've got to put up 31 points.

And that's the name of the game.

Your running game has been pretty well established.

Is Iowa Grand a tough team to run against?

I think they'll play well.

They'll be adjusted and ready to go.

I think our blocking schemes will be more adjusted to how Iwo Grant set up versus how Black Hawk was, and size different-wise.

Iwo Grant doesn't have as many big dudes in the box as Black Hawk did.

Well, it's some rare error, that's for sure.

I know it's been since, what, 2015?

I think since I think it was there, Weston, maybe further back since you've been to level three, isn't it?

I don't know if Weston's ever made it to level three off the top of my head.

If they had, it's been a while ago.

I know it's been, even when I was in high school, just making the playoffs was kind of big.

So to be at level three is pretty amazing feat right now.

Exciting.

All right.

Well, good luck to you and the team.

You should prepare for Iowa Grand.

Thanks, Phil.

Appreciate it.

Coach Kyle

Kelly, Ithaca Westin joins us.

Coach, what sticks out in terms of some of the stats from that win against Blackhawk last week?

Like kind of new going into it that we're going to have to throw the ball through the air and be successful if we wanted to keep going.

So we set our

definitely was our season high passing yard.

When you were down 8-0 and then later 16-0 started the third.

I guess what did you tell the team first of all at halftime?

We were at where we wanted to be.

We wanted to be within two scores of halftime so.

So that was the accomplishment there.

The team you know that was a key drive on that opening play of the second half when you got the ball back.

That kind of turned the tide didn't it?

Absolutely one of the biggest plays on that drive though was our kick return.

We returned the ball to them.

are there 45 yard line.

So then it kind of opens everything else up.

You've got a good, uh, good year of special teams, haven't you?

Yeah.

Overall, I would say so.

Uh, we've made quite a few of our field goals or extra points and things like that.

We were yet to run one all the way back or something like that though.

Well, maybe that's to come.

Yeah.

The game against the Iowa grant.

You've been hearing about them all year and what sticks out on their scouting report.

I think their quarterback is he definitely is in the top three division seven for touchdowns.

If not number one Definitely up there across the entire state like he's incredibly dynamic very very very good.

Have you played a team that throws a lot this year?

Yeah, we haven't played a team like them.

No, but we've played teams that's thrown a lot but not as well as what this kid does He's be phenomenal.

So your defense has to be ready, but I know that he runs the ball a lot too, doesn't he?

Yeah, I guess that he do he's

just a very, very good athlete.

In terms of what you guys do well, what's the key for Ithaca-Weston?

We can't completely abandon what has got us here.

Like I said, we can build off it a little bit, but we can't completely throw out and try something completely brand new that we haven't done all year.

Like I said, we've got here doing something, right?

Well, you can certainly counter with the past too.

You guys are good at it, but obviously the ground game comes first, doesn't it?

Yeah, I would say that's true of most small school programs though.

Looking at the matchup again, you're probably an underdog.

Would you say that?

I would say, yeah, I would say most people would say that about us.

Yeah.

Being at home, does that give you an edge?

Yeah.

Like I said, we have such a big crowd and said they get into it.

So a hundred percent how today gives us an edge.

Practice this week hasn't been so nice in the inclement weather, has it?

It's been raining, but it's been really cool to practice under the lights.

I don't think it really matters too much with the training, but it's pretty cool to have the lights on when we play.

I don't think it's supposed to, but rain on Friday night wouldn't be the end of the world for Ithaca Western.

Some of us might want it to rain a lot

Friday.

Slow them down a little bit.

I'm sure you're getting some some accolades, you know, from other conference schools and things like that, but this is really important for the program, isn't

it?

Yeah, like I said, this is

They haven't gotten a level three too many times and it would be only the third time if they're to win to get to the state semis.

So that's pretty awesome.

It's real awesome.

Can we expect anything different without giving too much away on Friday night with your approach or anything like that?

No, we're going to look like what we look like all year long for the most part.

We'll have

some top secret something up there.

top secret.

You never know, but bottom line though, you got to be mind your P's and Q's and try to control the time of the clock too.

I'm sure, right?

We need our drives to take a very long time and score on them and we need an interception or turnover.

Hey, we sit, we need something to balance our way again.

Very good.

Good luck.

As you get ready for Iowa grant.

Yeah.

Thank you very much.

This is your community.

These are your teams and this is local sports on WRCO.

Welcome to Ithaca tonight on a very cold and crisp film.

Me joined by Henry Bray for the game tonight.

Iowa Grant versus Ithaca Weston.

It does feel like football.

It is football.

It's November and you know what?

Less roll.

So yeah, good, good weather for football.

Let's see what happens.

I think.

maybe some issues of hanging on to the football tonight though.

That's right, turnovers could be a key as they always are, but maybe so this will be the coldest night that anybody's played

in.

Right, yeah so it and here's the thing we always say turnovers are key but tonight it's even even highlighted more because teams know what to do with it after they get

the turnover.

So, Brock Hinderman the quarterback for Iowa Grand has had a tremendous season.

You were talking about the number of

throws that he's made.

He's had some multi-touchdown games.

Oh, yeah.

And certainly he's the one that you got to key on.

Yeah, you

have to key on him.

He can run the football and he can throw the football better.

I think it's going to have to make him one dimensional, one way or the other.

Either way, he's going to beat him through the air.

He's going to beat him on the ground.

And it's one of those games, though, where if you're going to fumble, it better be early and not at the third end of the football field.

So I do believe that

Bumble we may have a couple fumbles here and I the maze decide the football

game.

Oh, it kind of turned the tide last week.

And

you know and and then the centerman kid he he's gonna he's kind of like a gunslinger He's gonna he's gonna give you an opportunity to get some picks

Iowa Grant has had a playoff history probably not as rich as Ithaca Westerns Ithaca Westerns dates back to 1986 and they've been in the playoffs for a

a long long time see the last time they were not in the playoffs was two thousand and boy it's 2005 and six it looks right now the last time they were not

We're not seeing the national anthem yet.

They're warming up.

They're warming up.

Yeah, they're warming up like

I should have done.

Like last week somebody said, are you missing the national anthem?

No, we're not.

They're warming up.

They're warming up.

But no, and

tonight, the key focus is going to be on defense on both sides of the ball field.

Yeah,

definitely.

We're a minute 30 away from my kick.

And other than that, Phil, there's some key.

Key things that you know and you got to look at the competition on both sides of the ball I mean this Brock Enderman kid.

What is it 49 total touchdowns?

Yes,

but you're gonna have to look at some of the programs they played where he for those programs are not as strong as You know and I understand 49 touchdowns a lot, but what what is the other side of the competition doing?

I mean there's one game he had five he threw five touchdowns and ran for three That's one game

You know and they won well as a 63 to three or something or 63 to six The other game he had a total of seven touchdowns two interceptions and beat them 56 to nothing and You know there's there's like five or six games that way that you have to look at and say all right This is this is what this is the real deal.

Okay now And I'm not taking nothing away from them because you know what they beat they beat black off very handedly They had a really close game against River Rage who's stealing the playoffs and you know as you just have to

understand the game and just play it that way.

They had a nice game last week, certainly.

Right now let's join our national anthem from

Ithaca.

Nice job, tonight's national anthem here.

I never know when they're practicing and when it's a real deal, Hank.

But we got it in.

Nice job.

And the flag on the other side of the field, not moving at all.

No, there's no wind up here.

Brian Allen came up here earlier, so there is no wind down there.

Nope, there's not.

It's all up here in the booth.

I think that's what he was getting at.

That could be.

We'll be back after that with kickoff, WIAA level three playoff action.

busy busy day here for us.

Yeah, we have been Phil so it's been an enjoyable day watching a lot of great athletes young ladies and young men so and You know Phil that there's a couple pictures floating around if you sleep in

there.

I'm sure

Thank you.

I appreciate that.

I don't know what you're talking about.

We know it's like the Iowa Grant's going to set kick to receive the opening.

Kick off, so...

I think they're getting out to the field right now as they will be going from our left to our right.

Iowa Grant from our right to our left here in the opening.

The starting lineups will be coming up courtesy of L&M Salvage.

Catch the vibe.

Good to go, Weston.

Kicking off to Iowa Grant.

They'll be led by Brock Hinderman, the senior quarterback, and

Joined in the backfield by the likes of Hayden Altman and Cole Schof along with Owen Wyatt He's a senior and Braden Schemic on the line more in a moment Here's the kickoff and the ball end over and near side take 20 yard line heading upfield to the 35 40 good return for Iowa Grant all the way to the 47 yard line Good return by number five.

That was Brock Hinderman, right?

No, it was Hayden

Altman actually

Just remember the last year or I'm sorry last last week.

They had some good returns to Blackhawk did so nothing nothing major

That's a key and it was for Ithaca Weston to get some of those it was the field position that they had a week ago So here we go IG starting out and they'll be at their own 46 yard line to start this drive Going up snap the ball is shemmick joined by Ryker Rubish Calvin the cone Jack Whitaker Blake Schof tight cuts is the tight end

Out of the shotgun start for the first play from scrimmage.

Hinderman looks it over.

Long snap.

Count claps his hands.

Now back to throw.

Pocket breaking down.

Rolling to the far side.

They've got him and then he gets rid of it at the last moment.

Incomplete at the 50 yard line.

Great pressure.

That

is great defense and a great way to start for Ithaca Weston.

Give credit right up front to Liam Rohn, who did a great job getting that pressure up front.

He is joined in the backfield there by Spencer Nelson.

Nice job, nice job by the defense there.

And that's what they have to do.

They have to continue to put pressure on.

So a second down play coming up for Iowa Grant and working the ball here on the near side.

The ball is on the near half, Ashmark and IG set to go.

Out of the shot gun again, Henderman looking it over.

Flaps his hands and there is the snap from center back to throw from his own 40 whips at far side Well, and he's gonna catch it on the left side down the sidelines 40 35 going down to around the 20 to the 15 brought down finally in the back by Quentin Banker to the defensive play for the question fell

down Jacob Keller fell down on the on the actually it was just a it was a 10 yard out and he fell down on the out so

and you know this field is probably the grass is cut so it's a little shorter so

no doubt so it's going to be no huddle offense for Iowa Grant first and 10 they've got it marked at the Ithaca Weston 18 yard line.

Hinderman looks it over he's got a one man to his right side in the backfield everybody else split out there's the snap the clap of the hands are coming after him he breaks one tackle now moving to the near side running down around the 15 to the 10 pushed out of bounds right around the one yard line he nearly scored

Yeah, nice run nice blocking downfield They had him in the backfield.

You've got to wrap up So the ball marked

first and goal for Iowa Grant quick drive And again, they almost had him in the backfield twice not quite Interven looking from the shotgun snap.

We're just 40 seconds into it here There's the snap from center runs to the right side getting down around the goal line and he Touchdown touchdown Iowa Grant

That comes quickly 11-15 here in the opening quarter So Hinderman with a one-yard run is the quarterback draw.

Yeah, nothing fancy Good blocking up front

and

they

draw first blood and you know, it just missed tackles

Yeah,

it was missed tackles all the way down.

So they have to clean that up and I'm sure they will

Iowa Grant will be spreading out and going for two it would appear Two wide right one left Hinderman all alone in the backfield

for the two-point conversion try awaiting a snap from center as he looks it over the linemen are now down and set here comes the snap took a long time they're coming after him he's hit as he throws far side knocked away

Good fresher by Burns, coming on the right side, put a pretty good hit on Hinderman.

Yes, he did.

And knocked away on the left side by Jacob Keller.

Jacob Keller did a nice defensive job there.

Six-nothing Iowa Grant in the opening quarter, 11-15 remaining in the first.

We can't wait to see you.

There's a kickoff by Iowa Grant after the score.

They're going to get out on a run.

The Ithaca Western return man is out to around the 41 yard line on the return by Jacob Keller.

Good return.

Yes, good return.

Good place to start.

Good field position, you know, not, you know, one of the keys that we talked about is a long drive.

So.

Yeah, keep the ball in your position as long as you possibly can, right?

Yep.

Keep it as long as you can.

Keep it out of the offensive hands of Ira Granton at the end of your drive score.

First in 10 for Ithaca Weston and the ball is marked at their own 31 yard line, but all of a sudden done.

They're getting set from the line of scrimmage ball on the far hash mark and under center is Jacob Keller.

Keller with a handoff for a running play and not much.

Maybe a yard or so for Spencer Nelson and Spencer is brought down by Hayden Altman.

It looks like they're running a 4-4 with the linebackers filling all the gaps that the linemen are not.

So they're playing all run here, Phil.

Second down at about nine yards to go, Ithaca-Weston on the offensive line, including the likes of Isaiah Fargent, Reed Wapshell, Mason VanColter, Hayden Burns, and Ben Otto.

Good line all year long.

Landed Walmer in the backfield along with Liam Rowan and of course Spencer Nelson.

He's had a great year Caden Keller Quintus Banker the receivers and the quarterback is sophomore Jacob Keller second down play There's the snap running left side Nelson off left tackle and he is stacked up and gang tackle there Yes, he is Jack Whitaker with a stop for the Panthers And that makes it third down for Ithaca Weston and about nine yards to go

didn't get much did he didn't get much

Barely moved the sticks third third and I'm gonna say third and nine Phil.

I think a Western may have to try to challenge through the air.

Yes.

Yep Because they're playing the run right now

Blake Gray into the game number 33 for Ithaca Weston in the backfield.

Two men split wide to the near side, third and nine from the 32.

Low snap, Keller coming back, running to the near side, running.

They're coming after him.

Keller trying to get upfield and he is brought down by Iowa Grant.

Good play from behind by number 21, Grant Schof.

Very quick from side to side.

And if you notice, they have 11 defensive guys in the box.

Yeah, they did.

They have 11 guys in the box.

That'll bring up a fourth down and nine yards to go Ithaca Weston out in the punt formation now.

Kate and Keller is the punter backs up to around his 20 yard line and awaiting the snap from center There's the snap good one and a good punt gonna get over the receiver's head and keep rolling taking some Ithaca Weston hops all the way inside the 20 yard line It looks like that's down around the 15.

It looks like a great punt that really was

Great punt.

On a cold night, putting that ball might feel like putting a brick or something sometimes, right?

Break my toes.

Exactly.

So here we go.

It is second possession for Iowa Grant.

They go west and try to establish something here on defense.

Yes, they are.

And you know what?

Again, we talked about the last drive.

Three or four missed tackles and they're punting.

They had a huge one in the backfield the very first play of the game and then one

Right in front of us fell.

Yeah,

I think it was at the third play

again.

I think it was the third play They could have stopped him or at least slowed him down a little bit So second possession first in ten from the 14-yard line Up IG they need to hit they need to hit the quarterback.

That's the big thing Everybody is set pretty good size line for the Panthers awaiting the snap from center is hinderman man in motion There's the snap hinderman back good protection whips at about a 50-yard throw.

It's gonna be caught and then dropped

right around the 45 yard line by the receiver.

Yeah, coverage by Jacob Keller out there on number four and nice coverage.

He just balled through right over his head and the receiver dropped

it.

Second down and ten yards to go.

So that was one of the points we made, you know, maybe that's caught on a warmer night.

Right, yes.

Yeah, because it probably would have been.

Yeah, and it might have been another score.

I mean, they had everything pretty well set up there.

Second down the tenor for the 14-yard line of Iowa Grant Hinder been operating out of the shotgun again There's the snap of the clap of the hands and a pitch going to the right side the running back cuts around right and moving and grooving to around the 17-yard line so short game Pick up about four yards only third and sixth Cole Schoaf the ball carrier no huddle offense that last tackle was by Isaiah Fargent third down at five all right

Awaiting the snap is Hinderman claps the hands goes back whips it to the far side caught right around the stick and brought down short of the first down Catched by Sholf and the tackle made by Walmer.

Yep.

We're

and

margin I believe One was the first to hit so I think they're gonna have a measurement here

the officials get a call for the sticks to come out

They've got it shown as fourth and short 821 remaining of the opening quarter six nothing.

I will grant of the lead of Ithaca Weston So here comes the chain gang Led the captain is Mr. Aaron Hips.

I think first down first down.

All right, I will grant just got it from our angle.

It looked like he did

look like yes, yes

But they did when they stretched out the chains

First in ten for the Panthers good to have you along tonight.

Thanks to our sponsors from the raise do it best center and also the Rockwell Automation sports desk I Will grant leading six nothing with the ball in the first down mark around the 24 yard line So they got just enough for the first time after starting in their own 14

There's the snap from center Hinderman hands off running play cutting around the left side is number seven Sholf Sholf makes his way to around the 35 and then is punched out of bounds there by Ithaca Weston I say

a fortune

margin having a good game here That's a nice hit little market about three yards short of the first down So the ball is marked no huddle offense for Iowa Grant running the play from the far side Grant Sholf back in the backfield from the sidelines

Second down in three yards to go.

Ball around the 31.

There's the snap and the Hinderman is going to keep it himself on a nice fake.

Runs for a first down and then brought down by it.

The go Western Spencer Nelson makes the tackle, but it is the first down.

It is a first down there.

And I just, you know, the, the receivers for our grant blocks so well, but I thought they missed a hold there on that one.

If you saw what I was saying,

no, you, you have the officials.

I see.

I don't have the officials eyes.

Well, I don't have my uniform on, but.

maybe the classes.

Yeah, nice that you brought your flags tonight so you can throw them in the booth, right?

You can practice.

Yeah, we can practice.

We've had a long day though,

Phil.

We started at 2 a.m.

this

morning.

2 a.m.

And I'm not complaining.

I enjoyed it.

It's been a good day.

I think the care just needs to settle down and just play their assignments.

Just settle down.

First and ten just under seven minutes remaining in the opening quarters six nothing Iowa Grant in the lead There's the snap and the hitterman keeps it himself and he's gonna run for a couple of yards gets out to Around the 37 it looks like Boy, he carried them all one-handed.

Yes, he does.

I you know a good slap in there probably knock it out.

That's what I was thinking It's a second down and about six yards to go for the Panthers How a grad's got some size on the line, don't they?

And it snaps the ball is Ryker Rubish.

He's a sophomore.

He's up to snap it three men on the far side one to the near side and Looking it over his hindermen There's the snap from center and he fakes the handoff now I'm gonna throw it over on the far side and it's gonna be caught and breaking away from Jacob Keller is the receiver gets across the 50 to the 40 and then brought down right around the 38 Amitaka Weston

So a nice catch and run there on the far side for the Panthers Landon Friesen on the catch

miss tackles again Phil

First and 10 for Iowa Grant ball is marked again inside the Ipica West in 45 There's the snap Hinderman is back to throw and then he whips it over the middle It is caught right around the first down stick the receivers hit right away by Jacob Keller catch made by Ty cuts

let me down at the 30

34 35 guard

no huddle offense We don't have time to tell really funny stories in between place here.

Do we boy?

I'll tell you second and one for Iowa grant There's the snap back to throw from the 40 he throws it near side caught by freezing and he's gonna try to break away Fumble picked up by Ithaca Weston now.

It's loose again squirting around who's got the

ball?

It's got it looks like hindered and yeah, he covered it.

Oh my goodness That would have been a big

break.

They had they had

Three chances there, Phil.

So the fumble, it was recovered, and then not, and then recovered, and then not by Ithaca Weston.

And then finally, as Hank mentioned, Rock Hinderman, the quarterback diving in there to get the ball back.

So it is a third down, third down, and what about a yard or so for a first down?

There's the snap from center.

Hinderman runs it himself, and he's going to be brought down immediately, but did fall ahead for a yard for a first down.

That's number 34.

Landon Wilmer.

Don't I say in that right field?

Yep.

Landon Walmer.

Good tackle there.

He's a good football player.

Ithica Weston hits hard, don't they?

Yes, they do.

Showing that here again tonight.

And

the thing is they just got to continue doing that.

They got to wear down their opponent, and they will.

They're going to get their breaks.

And here's the thing, if you hit them hard, they're going to fumble the football.

That was a missed opportunity there for Ithica Weston.

Man in motion for the near side.

And there's the snap to Hinner and throws it behind the line of scrimmage, caught by Friesen, tries to break one tackle, and now gang-tackled by it to go west and nice play.

Nice job over there.

Gonna lose a yard on the play, I think, on the pass.

Landon Wilmer again over there.

So mark it for a second down and about 12 yards to go.

Good coverage by Ithaca Weston on a pass that was behind the line of scrimmage now in a play like that if he doesn't catch that that's a life

If you notice the official there he was pointing forward so that was a forward

pass.

I sure didn't look like it I might argue that one.

I want to see the Fox replay on that second down in 12

Awaiting the snap from center is Hinderman takes the snap hands off trying to get around the near side his shelf and he's got a little room Caught by the Jersey and Jacob Keller slows him down Spencer Nelson brings him down after a gain of about five

We got third and four here Number 70 was on the top

of

Hayden Burns Was was helping

on the top.

Okay

Third down in about four yards.

Yeah, four or five yards to go.

So pick up about seven on that play when all was said and done 350 remaining in the opening quarters six to nothing in favor of the visiting Iowa Grant Panthers in level three football around the drive again their second possession it started at their own 14 awaiting a snap Enderman back to throw their coming after him breaks one tackle man that guy can get away running far side running running now finally throws it away

And they land up out of bounds and

there

is

a flag intentional grounding cold.

No, I think that was a late hit, but I could be wrong.

Out of bounds on the far side.

Hank will see who's right.

The official on the white hat coming to the near side.

And looking to the sidelines, I think they're hooked up to the PA tonight.

If I'm not mistaken, it's going to be lost down here.

Okay.

So they're talking it over.

Still have not made the announcement yet.

328 remaining in the opening quarter.

Six nothing is the football game score.

Iowa Grant in the lead.

They declined the

ball.

Yeah.

Or down.

You were right on the call.

What do I know?

Silly me.

Silly

me.

And the reason I say that it wasn't the way the flag was thrown, it was just straight up in the air.

OK.

So usually that's going to be an infraction of it allows a man downfield or our intentional grounding here.

I probably would have took that penalty though.

Well, it's fourth down chance to get the ball back.

Iowa Grant with a football again inside the Ithaca Weston 30 yard line at the 27.

Fourth down and four for Hinderman in the offense awaiting the snap from center out of the shotgun Don't want to jump off sides here.

Hinderman back to throw they're coming after him whips it over to the middle and is caught and then Yeah, they're gonna call it a catch.

Yes, they did that is cuts with the catch For a first down that was a tremendous catch.

He was he laid out for that.

That's a nice nice catch

The ethical Western is just about getting there, but Hinderman is so elusive every time they've been close to him

He gets rid of it and then cuts his hip right away and the ball stayed in his hands.

First down right around the 18 yard line first in 10 for the Iowa Grand Panthers leading 6-0, 255 remaining in the opening quarter of football as they drive toward the North End zone.

Hinderman claps the hands there's the snap fakes the handoff rolls to the right side They're coming after him and there's the throw it is caught down around the 11 and then the receiver is brought down right away a Jacob Keller I believe on the coverage and Walmer is there as well number one and So the tackle is a killer That's gonna be unless I'm misreading that Phil 34 heading first I think but I think the other guys caught up with him later

Second down and that's right around the 11 yard line.

Second down for Iowa Grant driving toward the North End zone.

Long snap count.

There he goes back to throw throws a little screen to the right side caught by the receiver.

Breaks a tackle inside the five rolling down around the goal line.

I don't think he

got in.

Good catch and run by Cole Schof.

And that brings up a first and goal.

So Iowa Grant running downhill long sustained drive man.

They beat up a lot of the clock at

the start of their 14-yard At their own 14-yard

First and goal from the three yard line Looking over things is Brock Hinderman Awaiting the snap from center.

There it is.

Hinderman will fake the handoff and he is wrapped up and brought down nice play by number 74

Do I have a 74?

Yeah, well No, you don't I think it was Hayden Burns, wasn't it?

I mean make sure here number 70 number

seven Hayden Burns my apologies.

So

nice play by Hayden

Yeah, that was a great great defensive play actually pushed him back a little bit so Gonna be second and three from the three yard line second goal

actually.

Yep.

All right Hinderman back

Awaiting the snap from center.

He's got a man to his left, Cole Schof.

Second down and goal.

Somebody jump and we'll see if the western was across for sure.

See whether they were drawn or not.

They may they may put this on the offense.

Officials bringing it to the middle of the field.

Defence.

Yep, they do call it on the defense and he's actually calling out numbers.

Second down.

And that's with 53 seconds remaining here in the first quarter.

Whistle will start the clock again.

Iowa Grant trying to add to its six nothing lead here.

And Hinderman back into the fold from the far sideline.

Very close to scoring touchdown number two on Ithaca Weston.

Altman splits out wide to the right side, staying in the backfield for Iowa Grant is

Friesen and Hinderman awaiting the snap from center There's the snap pitch to shelf cutting left side down around the goal line and he's in for a score So that'll make it a 12-0 lead

You know if it goes down 12-0 then it's like something they've never done before which you and I both know 12-0 against this Ithaca is not Ithaca Weston is nothing

that wasn't last week.

That's

for sure

Got to find a way to slow them down.

Yeah, absolutely.

They've been they've been with an eyelash.

Yes, they have getting the tackles and

seems like they're just a step late there because they've been in the backfield all over Hinderman all night.

Cole Schoff scores and now waiting the snap from center on a two point conversion.

I.G.

trying to put themselves up 14 nothing shoved to the left and Hinderman is the quarterback takes the snap stepping back in the pocket throws to the far side and caught for the two point conversion by Landon Friesen.

That will make it 14-0 IG, 23 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The drone.

Oh, I wondered about that.

You know, I saw a drone, um, you know, at this last, and I was thinking that you're not supposed to have those up.

So I'm not sure who's running

that.

Yeah, it's going to be from, uh, Ithaca, Weston.

Is it?

Yes.

Okay.

So that's, that's the delay here, Phil.

Okay.

But yeah, I saw that and I, I wondered because I knew that that's not a thing in the plans.

I don't know if you can do it during the regular season.

Can you?

No, you're not supposed to fly drones.

You actually

have to have permission to fly drones.

Just 23 seconds remaining in the opening quarter 14 nothing in favor of the visiting Panthers There's the kick and over and it's gonna be taken back around the 11-yard line by Caden Keller 20 25 Caden breaks it around the 30 35 and then rushed out of bounds and Almost into the post there.

He just tried to save himself there one of the fans slows him down

Hey, yeah, it took a shot from a fan.

Didn't he?

Yes, he did.

And rushed out of bounds there by number six, Hayden Altman.

That's where it takes over.

The 16 seconds remaining here in the first quarter of action.

Ball placed at the near hash mark.

Looks like we have a flag.

All right.

Flagging into the western right.

So I'm going to move it back to the 30 yard line.

Is that a holding?

Yeah.

Yep.

It was a holding on the far side.

So.

Which is always frustrating when it probably didn't have much to do with the play, but it still occurred.

Right.

Right.

One of those things.

Jacob Keller runs back into the huddle.

I think a Western with a chance to get maybe one playoff here at the other.

They're going to get a playoff.

Clock shouldn't start until the ball snaps.

If you go Weston in the huddle and now breaking it out here for the final 16 seconds of the first quarter.

If it was to needs a long sustained drive,

yeah, they just need a positive player

awaiting a snap is Jacob Keller There's the pitch and going to the left side of Spencer Nelson puts the shoulder down keeps it going keeps it going seven He's got a he's got nine.

He might have the first

house.

That's a nice That's what exactly what they need Phil I didn't mean to talk over you but that's but that's that's a great great run

That'll end the first quarter that gives you something positive to build on

right?

Yes.

First quarter comes to an end.

Ithaca-Weston will have the ball.

When we return, they'll be right around the 41 yard line.

Their own one quarter in the books.

Iowa Grand 14.

Ithaca-Weston nothing here on WRCO Radio Sports.

Start of the second quarter for Ithaca Weston with the football after a just an amazing blue collar run there by Spencer Nelson

Hey, you know, I found out There is a video company here, so I'll wait for this place over

there's a snap from center handoff running play go on to the right side Spencer Nelson and the ball popped loose ball is loose Ithaca Weston was saying that it was down and both sides are kind of pointing back and forth Second down as they unpile yet will be Ithaca Weston football

But anyway, there's a video company that's doing some inside work for the WIA for their football playoffs for the state championships, and that was their

drone.

Oh, OK.

Yeah, they're doing a little special on Briggs Maxwell in this season for Ithaca Western.

They were here last week, and then we met them tonight.

They came up to talk to us.

Wanted a little bit of the audio from last week's game.

Yes.

Yes, and so that's gonna be really cool watch that during the state Televised version of the state football playoffs.

Hopefully we'll be there.

Well, we'll see second down to nine There's the snap running play on the counter and Walmer the running back is popped and there might be a fumble again right around the 40 yard line they on pile and Well, it looks like he Maintained possession

Landon Walmer brought down.

He did get

power.

He did.

So it's a third down and almost 10 yards to go for Ithaca Weston.

Ball resting on their own 41 yard line.

14-nothing Iowa Grant.

Let's see if Ithaca Weston can.

Will themselves another first down.

Caden Keller out to the near side.

They haven't able to get it to Caden yet either.

No, they have not make a big play There's the snap Jacob looking looking for a whip and they are looking at for Caden ball on the near side It's up for grabs and then knocked away at the last moment by Landon Friesen Intended for Caden

Landon Friesen did a nice job playing defense on that ball and you know and Caden did as well.

It's just a little bit overthrown

Fourth down and about nine to ten yards to go for Ithica Weston

Looking like they're going to be in the punting mode again.

Also want to mention that the Chicago Bears sent a jersey of several autographs to the Maxwell family.

JC's got it on

tonight.

That's kind of neat.

You know, maybe we do appreciate the Bears more, huh?

There's the snap and a low punt might have almost been blocked.

going to be taken by i.g.

but right around the twenty five returned by a land in freezing to the forty and then gang tackled the bay at the go west and right around the forty three but uh... that's where they will take over really nice though uh... they were able to to get that it's an autograph number seven which is briggs's number

yes yes

i know for sure caleb williams is on there and i think the andre swift is on there okay couldn't read them all but uh... what that's really cool yeah that's

kind of you know

it

It's more than about football.

It is.

It is more than

about football.

Briggs was a great Bears fan.

Maybe the Bears aren't all that bad sometimes, I guess.

Anyway, first in 10.

Bulldog got to come over the way to stop on

here.

They do.

Got to slow them down.

Again, turnover would be nice.

Ethica Weston bearing down in the trenches and Iowa Grant on the offense There's the snap running play and not much as freezing is going to be brought down behind the line of scrimmage every time it says

Well,

yeah, every time they're thinking there's a fumble there, but there wasn't well I tell you what he he stuck him Yeah, landed walmer is there makes

the big he's had some big yes He has well he stuck him good and when I say he stuck him he popped him

pretty good ten

Oh nine remaining here in the first half 14-nothing Iowa Grant They are switching they're bringing in Ethan Mulderink who is a junior on the line young man with a lot of size and Coming to the football second down and about 11 yards to go for I will run up in the backfield to Awaiting the snap from center is going to be Brock Hinderman senior quarterback.

There's the snap

And the handoff running play going to the left side number seven Cole's show stacked up by Ithaca Weston another good

play Nice job for the defense for Ithaca A

bunch of

people there Who is the guy on the bottom?

No number 70 Hayden

Burns?

Yeah, and Spencer Nelson I think was on the top so and Some really good place.

Yeah, let's see if they can hold them again place 30-10 here big play for the Bulldogs Iowa Grant

Brakes subtle and heads to the football Watch where freezing is number one splitting out to the near side Staying in the backfield Cole shelf to the right of the quarterback Hinderman awaiting the snap from center And there it is and he'll hand up.

No, he's gonna fake it gonna throw it over the middle He's got a man wide open and it's gonna be caught turning up feel his cuts.

He's hiding downtown 25 down to the 20 15 10 and he's brought down by Ithaca Weston.

Oh, but no flags filled

Quintus banker on the stop saved the touchdown.

Cuts is a big tight end, isn't

he?

Yeah, he's a huge tight end and I don't see how he got wide open but he did right in the middle of the field.

And then it was kind of a difficult catch too.

Yes.

Pulled it in and made a nice run.

First and 10 from the 12 yard line.

Iowa Grant takes the snap, back his hinderman all day, throws it toward the end zone.

It is going to be up in the air, caught and a touchdown for the Panthers.

Right in top of that was Cain and Keller, but it was pulled in by the wide receiver

Yeah, good good play.

I mean actually put not bad defense either though Phil just a taller receiver and this goes up and gets it

I'm not sure how Ithaca Weston could have defended that any any different

I don't either.

All right, so 20 to nothing Iowa Grant Enderman will be awaiting the snap from center

War wide receiver said he's back to throw looking right all the time and then running now throws it over the middle and a man in the back of the end zone makes the grab for two two-point conversion is good by Ty cuts and that'll make it 22 nothing Iowa Grant 833 remaining first half high school football tonight from WRCO sports

Welcome back to Ithaca.

Ithaca-Weston had them almost stopped, Hank.

They did.

They're going to try a little pooch kick here.

I have a grant lined up.

They're all together in a group.

Here comes the kick, and then they fake it, and now they're going to spread out.

And ball on the right side.

Here in the near hash mark, Ithaca-Weston sent to receive it.

Iowa Grant scoring for the third touchdown of the night.

Here's a kick.

It's going to be caught by IW heading up to the 20.

Oh, there's the ball popping loose.

It's a little bit on the field.

Iowa Grant diving in.

It looks like they may have gotten it.

A helmet popped that ball loose.

Still no signal from the official.

Ithaca-Weston got on it.

Good, good.

That was Farjan, who had the quick reaction there.

Isaiah Farjan, good job.

Yes, yeah.

He did a nice job.

Saw the ball open.

for a bigger guy, he did a nice job.

Ball is marked right around Ithaca Weston's own 29 yard line, 825 remaining in the first half, 22-0 Iowa Grant in the

lead.

Ithaca Weston just needs to get some positive plays here, get a couple first downs, let him get back in the rhythm.

I thought that first down last time by Spencer Nelson would lift him, but couldn't quite keep it going.

There's the snap.

Pitch, it's going on the right side to Dre.

Dre trying to break the corner.

He is hit and dropped by Iowa Grant.

Big hit by number five, Brock Hinderman.

Yeah, and you know, again, Iowa Grant has 11 guys in the box.

I mean, that's, that's, that's, all defense are standing within six, seven yards of the line scrimmage.

So they're gambling a little bit.

Oh, they're big on gambling.

So, you know as if you're gonna have to come up with something to get try to get behind the defense and You know because I have Jacob Keller can deliver the ball We just got it.

We just got to get someone behind the defensive

second down 14 yards to go back around the 25 of Ithaca Weston and the whistles sound in a top can by Ithaca Weston 743 remaining in the first half

Iowa Grant, 22, Ithaca, Weston, nothing.

Welcome

back to Ithaca and a running play by Jacob Keller trying to throw the ball.

He just throws it away on the near side and then there's a late flag.

They just threw it.

Yeah,

that's going to be intentional drowning.

That's what I wondered.

So explain how that works.

If you would hang

well and loss of down here.

Okay.

So what's going to happen is if an intentional grounding call, if the quarterback is outside the pocket like it was anyway, you still have to have a receiver in the area.

And it doesn't matter if it's catchable or not in high school football.

It doesn't matter.

A pass is a pass.

But you also have to get the ball across the line of scrimmage, even if you're outside of the pocket.

So and if it's not, it's usually right where the

Quarterback through the football and lost it down.

It's a big it's a big penalty

third down at 25 for it to go west and Keller back around the goal line looking to whip it He's gonna throw it over to the far side.

It's up for grabs and then incomplete frees and knocks it away from Quintus Banker Who is the intended receiver?

That'll bring up fourth down not a bad effort there.

No, not about ever is

You know, but intentional grounding can really really really put you behind the

sticks

And

it did there for Ithaca-Weston 728 remaining in the first half.

They trail it 22-nothing here at WIAA level 3 playoff football.

Iowa Grant's gonna get it back in good field shape.

And I think it's a double whammy because you lost the down and the yardage.

Uh-oh, the ball is loose on the field down around the goal line.

It is blocked and that is a touchdown for Iowa Grant.

Iowa Grant gets a block punt and a touchdown for IG.

Looks like number 27 is celebrating not sure who exactly fell on the ball But they get a touchdown on the defense that hurts

big time big time again We talked about penalties and turnovers and you can't have them you can't have one mental mistake and then turn around and have another

one So the blocked bond for a touchdown by the defense that puts them up 28 nothing and they're gonna go for a two-point conversion

Ball is marked on the far hash mark for Iowa Grant and Hinderman in the backfield along with show awaiting the snap from center out of the shotgun Long snap count he takes a lot of time and eventually claps his hands when the ball is coming There it is.

He's back to throw the two looking looking throws it over the middle and incomplete Intended for freezing in the back of the end zone good coverage by Caden Keller

Welcome back to it the guy here is the kickoff by Iowa Grant and after the score It's going to be picked up by Kate and Keller heads ahead to the 25 spun around and then Eventually brought down right around the 30 yard line That's where Ithaca will take over for its fourth possession of the first half

Yeah, and again, you know, it's just little things filled it gets it gets them caught up and They just need to have a positive drive and they could turn things around

We have some other scores on the film knee flip phone

Sponsored by Marcy strikeout Alzheimer's going on tomorrow actually Cochran Fountain City is leading River Ridge by a score of 14 13 Fox Valley Lutheran 13 7 on the cross Logan among the scores Also, let's see Darlington leading Durand Arkansas 27 nothing as well Here's a pass play and it's gonna be knocked away on the far side in complete intended for Spencer Nelson

Second down in ten yards to go.

Yeah, and your

old flip phone is also brought to you by Honkers on musketeer.

All right.

Thank you very much They're helping to pay my bill.

Yes.

They are you got a

big one after today, buddy

I'll tell you we've been flipping all over the state.

We have I think we've seen every division 17 in the state of Wisconsin today

their towns their towns.

Yeah, we've seen a lot of towns

A lot of them as you head to Green Bay, that's for sure.

But you know, it was weird.

You know, we had a pretty good trip up.

We couldn't seal up because the dark when we went home, it sent us some ways that I didn't think roads existed.

Through some farm yards.

I thought we needed my

four-wheeler.

Mason Van Colter up to snap the ball for Ithaca, second down and ten.

Keller gonna run it himself off right tackle, pushes his way, breaks one tackle and not

a bad effort.

Not a bad effort.

He hit his man about two yards.

into the run and really, really held him up.

So that's, and he lost his shoe, I think, maybe a pad on that, but he's all right.

So a good gain of about six yards, six to seven yards.

Third down, four yards to go for Ithaca Weston.

Ball is marked right around the 31 yard line.

Clock running, 6-43 remaining in the opening half of football, 28-nothing Iowa Grant, taking advantage of

A blocked punt on their latest score.

Also taking advantage of a few missed opportunities by Ithaca-Weston.

There's the snap back to throw as Jacob Keller rolls to the right side, whips it far.

It's going to be caught by Caden Keller.

Pushed out of bounds first down at the 46 of Ithaca-Weston.

They released him to the right side of the field and he had plenty of room to scramble to his right and look for Caden Keller.

Nice football play right there.

And the blocking was there that time

too.

He had plenty of time.

So Ithaca Weston will huddle it up.

Jacob Keller back into the fold.

Spencer Nelson, who's had a great year up around 1200 yards this year.

He's been a little silent tonight, had that one first down run.

See what it that goes to does on first down first and ten from their own 46 There's a snap keller running on the quarterback option of the near side pushing one man They've got him by the arm and they bring him down after a game of maybe a yard Well play

just a very extended play

Colton Williams

defense extended that all the way out.

They did How's who's Arkansas playing tomorrow?

He's gonna be Auburn.

Oh

at Auburn.

I thought they were taking on their marching band in a scrimmage.

No, they got beat the other night.

Oh, they got beat by the marching band?

Yeah.

Okay.

That's too bad.

Yeah.

I know we probably would have back when I was in school played.

Well, no, I did.

Hey, you're going to play.

No, I need a sub.

I need a

sub.

Great intro for

tomorrow.

Yeah, yeah.

Second down and eight yards ago.

There's the snap Jacob Keller rolling to the right side thrown back across the middle is going to be caught by Spencer Nelson and he's brought down by the Jersey after a first down Hinderman on the stop boy if hinderman misses him he's gone I think he was gone

I thought he I thought he had a chance but he had another he had Keller on the other side just wide open

so while Jacob Keller is getting the proper time there's some openings out there

they are

517 remaining in the opening half coming up at halftime the Dairyland transportation high school sports update We'll talk a little bit about some of the key games going on around the state of Wisconsin.

There are a number of tonight.

I

are a number of them.

I wonder if

If you had a score on Belmont on the old honkers flip phone,

I don't know what to check that.

There's a snap back to throw is Jacob Keller.

He's going to air one over on the far side and looking for the receiver picked off by Iowa grand.

Who got it?

Oh, he did get

it.

It is intercepted by land and freezing.

Wow.

Both receivers freezing and Kate and Keller going for it and freezing ripped it away in midair.

If if Keller would hang

on to that football, you know, as on the ground,

That ball automatically goes to the of the offense.

As they hit the ground, it looks like a change to possessions there.

Did it?

Yes, it did.

So it's first and 10 for Iowa Grant getting it back and they'll have the ball at their own 11 yard line.

449 remaining in the opening half of football, a 28 nothing lead for the Panthers called a lot of their games over the years.

They've really made a run in football here.

You know,

they struggled for a few years.

Yeah.

But before they struggled you remember that they used to just run the ball right up the middle They used to drop and block you

blue collar Yeah back to throw his hinderman rolling to the near side throws on the runoff balance And it's gonna be almost picked off reason had it know the ball knocked away.

Keller had it and this time It's incomplete boy.

It was the same play the other side of the field the other

side of the field

Caden Keller almost picked it off for Ithaca Weston Hinderman throwing on the run he will throw an interception once in a while

11 of them on the year, it looks like.

Stops the clock with 440 remaining here in the first half.

Second down.

You know, and Iowa Grants had 11 fumbles on the year as well.

So they'll cough up the football.

You just gotta... And they've coughed

it up once and we didn't get on it.

Right.

Awaiting the snap from center will be Hinderman operating out of the shotgun.

Got a man behind him as a safety valve about five yards back There's the snap and he takes the hand off the shelf breaks a tackle in the backfield trying to get loose breaks another tackle Hinderman still going still running follows the near side block Jacob Keller almost got him and then he's gonna get out for a first down got a way out to the 27 yard line Boy, they almost had him about four times.

They should have had him for about a 10 15 yard loss Phil Chains will move

Iowa Grant getting it out

and here they

come.

Yep Marked around the 28 yard line first and 10 Iowa Grant no huddle offense I think a Western scrambling to get into coverage three men on the far side one on the near side and Hinderman calmly going at it shoved to his right side awaiting the snap from center is the quarterback Hinderman now hands off to show running left tackle hit initially good play by the ethical Weston defense for a yard mr. Walmer nice job

Landon Walmer with the tackle read wab shell there as well for Ithago Weston Defense trying to keep it going here.

Yeah, we're trying to keep them in the ballgame here Brett Maxwell the defensive man great staff here mark Callie Kyle Kelly, of course, and what's that guy's name that Clary kid.

He's a

kid.

Yes,

that Chad.

He's a young guy as well on the staff

Now they're glad to have Chad back this

year.

Yes, you

know, I think

Chad glad to be back.

So

made a great difference as well in the offense Awaiting the snap second down play back to throw Hinderman Hinderman whips it over the middle.

He's got his tight end almost intercepted.

He almost caught it on the ground It was tipped away by Jacob Keller tie cuts laying on the ground almost grabbed it.

It's incomplete

and they wanted to pass interference and that wasn't because He did not make any contact at the the the receiver made the contact

And and stripped over the defender's foot if he didn't do that it probably would have been picked

Yeah, it looked like it just a little bit out of his reach wasn't it that would have been a catch though tie cuts held on to that.

Oh my goodness Highlight reel So third down play third and ten for the Iowa Grand Panthers ball still resting around their 28 yard line 335 remaining first half they lead at 28 nothing over Ithaca Weston and

Awaiting this snap is the QB Brock Hinderman Long snap count takes the snap at his 25 backs off to his 20 now throws it over the middle He's got one freezing and he can't catch it.

It's gonna be Keller who knocks it down Keller and freezing have had quite a match up here tonight.

Yeah, they have they've been going bad on back and forth and You know, I just I'm one of these guys as an official.

I'm looking at like like

some of the kids reaction and stuff.

And it seems like every time they don't catch a ball, they're, they're wanting pass interference.

So that drives me nuts.

Sometimes, uh, maybe that backfires too.

Yes.

You may not get the benefit of the doubt if it is sometime or it's close, right?

Right.

Right.

So it's fourth down Iowa grant.

I don't have they punted tonight.

I have not.

No, looks like they're going to, at least that's the setting.

Back deep around the 35 is Caden Keller.

There's the snap the punter is gonna get it away That's cuts and it's gonna roll and getting away from it is Keller.

It's gonna roll down to the 36 of Ithaca Weston that is where they'll take over the football First pun of the night.

I'm gonna mark that with exclamation points for Iowa

Grant.

There was a great great defense by by Ithaca Weston

It was forcing to turn over on downs

So they will get it back their own 36 yard line.

Thanks for the gloves by the way.

Yeah,

you bet I'll probably never see him again.

I need a

certainly welcome I need him tonight, right?

You know, we're in the booth, but it's still a little chilly.

It's a little chilly That does

feel like you

don't have your heater

up here.

Yeah, it's in the car There's the snap throw to the right side caught by Caden Keller He's got a block stiff arms and other man gets ahead for a few yards out to around the 38 yard line Nice play

Yeah, nice play.

It's a positive play and that's that's the biggest thing right now if you continue to get positive plays good things gonna happen

They'll mark that right around the 41.

I apologize.

You cannot see the yard markers cannot here tonight It's kind of old school for me back in the day when they had those half tires They cut off those half tires and that's kind of what it is because people are standing in front of all the yard markers We're gonna we're gonna blame this on Adam Hess though.

Yeah, it's probably his fault

Second down play.

It's at the 41 yard line in mythical west and 238 remaining in the first half There's the snap pitch play Spencer Nelson stiff arms one now burst into the pile and gets maybe a yard Good coverage by IG number 40 Colton Williams

is there.

Yeah, there's a good defense.

We're just stacked up the line of scrimmage and he didn't have anywhere to go

There is can you imagine the number of people are here tonight?

This is amazing

Look at all of the Iowa Grand people over there.

Oh,

it's amazing how many people are here.

That might be the most I've seen on a visitor's side this year in all the games.

And of course the home side with Ithaca and Weston folks and Richland Center people are wrapped all the way around the field.

They are.

Third down, six yards to go.

There's the snap.

Fake pitch.

Keller rolling to the right side plants.

He's got time.

Throws it.

Kate and Keller catches.

40 and down to the 38 of Iowa Grand.

Friesen brings him down.

So if they go as to proving that

if they've got a little time they can get it done If the guy you know with a minute 49 if the co-estimates a minute 49 on the clock they have two timeouts left so They have something cooking here if they can continue again.

He's just positive yardage

They're in the huddle

Well, teams have scored against Iowa Grain.

No Black Hawk were on the team that Ithaca Weston beat last week.

They scored 32 against Iowa Grain.

Time out, Phil.

Time out, Ithaca Weston.

We'll be back in one minute.

137 remaining first half.

28-nothing.

Welcome back to ethical minute 37 remaining in the first half and they have the football it is a Plash play after the first down flags everywhere throw to the nearest side going to be picked off by freezing back around the 25 30 35 he's down the sideline with hinder been blocking and breaks another tackle crosses the 50 still going still going one man to beat He's all the way for an interception.

We'll see if it stands.

Hey, it's gonna stand.

They're gonna have a They got a flag here

And it's not going to be offside.

It's going to be, um, a legal shift.

Oh, okay.

I need to go west.

Yeah.

All right.

So figure out, climb the pit and decline the penalty and there's going to be a touchdown.

Okay.

It is a touchdown.

Yes.

Cause if it's an offside, they have to kill it automatically.

Land and freezing.

Iowa grand didn't know that it was good and they heard the, uh,

The announcer are the official who's going over the PA tonight, and then they celebrated Friesen with a return.

That must have been about 70 yards,

wasn't it?

Yeah, it was.

It was about 71 yard interception return.

That makes it 34 nothing.

Iowa Grant will huddle up for the conversion with a minute 19 remaining here in the first half.

It's been all Panthers.

Just when you think if the Westin's going to get a little something going, they were getting the passing game going.

Can't keep it going and now Iowa Grant will head to the far side.

Looks like they're going to go for two as they have tonight.

Enderman will take the ball out of the shotgun as he has tonight and they're going to take a time out, I believe, and they will.

119 remaining timeout before the two-point conversion.

We will keep it here.

Well, you and I have been world travelers today.

We saw River Valley play its last match of the

year.

And congratulations to those girls.

Again, they played hard.

They had a great season.

Don't take anything away from their loss today.

They made it to state semifinal.

What a great group of young girls.

You bet.

Good

effort.

Their fans are awesome,

aren't

they?

They're

just really

neat people.

They had the most there of any of the schools that were

there.

And

they were packed.

Yes, they were.

Just just an amazing scene today.

So it was good

to see

first time in 21 years.

They've been at state Nice nice job to them girls though.

So yeah, and they played hard today.

They just they just fell short and We had a good trip.

You found the hardies

on the way hardies.

Yeah, you were happy

And you were to I had a raisin biscuit that you didn't want

no I

didn't want it you offered

me so I did

it and it's the only thing that I could eat without you putting your fork in

That's my only problem with hearties.

Can't you make a biscuit without raisins?

They've never been able to perfect that I guess I Don't think they're gonna try Phil timeout is over IG back to the huddle going for two here leading 34 nothing One man to the near side.

That's freezing one man far

Side that's Altman speaking of freezing.

Yeah Awaiting the step there is hinderman back to throw pumps now They are coming after him if you go Weston coming after him throw is gonna be picked off down around the goal line And it's gonna be stopped on the play Jacob Keller makes the interception so that stops the two-point conversion By Keller now actually actually

stops the 35 point

clock.

Yeah, exactly that would have been

going into the second half but

actually it's second quarter as well

is

it yeah

in

the playoffs people don't know it's all the time a lot of people don't know that

But when the score does reach 35 points in the second quarter, the clock will continue.

That's because it doesn't happen very often.

That's correct.

We

don't really know that.

And a lot of people say, oh, both coaches have to agree.

That's not true.

And

that rule might have changed.

Because I don't know if that was the case years ago.

I kind of remember.

Right.

It did change.

Both coaches do not have to agree.

They

used to have to agree to it.

All right, so the ball is placed down by Hayden Altman

Getting a chance to do the kickoff 34 nothing here Iowa Grant off to the races in this one Darlington up on Durand Arkansas 27 nothing in half I had not heard of Durand Arkansas Arkansas Durand till they played River Valley last year in the

playoffs and then you had them Richland Center played them I think over in Winona for basketball

I believe they did there's the kickoff going to be caught down around the 20 yard line and now returned by Kayden Keller cuts across the field going down the sideline now finally spot

around right around the 40 yard line and out of the ounce.

So not a bad return about 25 yards.

Six possession for Ithaca Weston with a minute 12 remaining here the first half.

They will place the ball down and see what happens here.

I will tell you this, being in a booth, it's still chilly up here.

It is chilly, isn't it?

It is.

We've got layers on.

Post get down to around 25 tonight.

Is it really?

Yes.

I

think it's there up here.

Yep.

I think your water is frozen.

Oh really?

Yeah, it might be Have to go down and get a little hot chocolate.

Yeah at halftime There's my grandson calls it hot cocoa Baba hot cocoa Baba.

Yes.

Go get us a hot cocoa Baba, would you?

Uh-huh

First intent a minute 12 remaining in the first half.

There's the snap Jacob Keller back to throw whips it over the middle.

His hand was hit intercepted by Iowa Grant picked off now by Grant Sholf Grant down the sideline out of bounds around the 29 yard line of I think a way

And then and if you're Iowa Grant, you're gonna want to score here

They're gonna give it a chance a minute to remaining.

That's nothing the way they've scored quickly here tonight

What the first drive what took

them 44

seconds?

Yes Yep, not even a minute into the first quarter of this game tonight and certainly a Defensive touchdown helped them get a score as well But otherwise may have scored quickly

and often here's first half new glares is up on st.

Cory falls 24 to 6 Thank

you.

I was reading off on

they've had a good year.

Yes, they have Used to be a conference member in the Southwest

Awaiting the snap from center as Hinderman, he's back to throw.

Guns it caught by Friesen, and he is going to be wrapped up and brought down by Keller after a gain of about five yards.

So that's going to take it for a second down play.

No huddle offense, second at about three, it looks like.

Clock running, 43 seconds remaining in the first half.

Hinderman looking it over, awaiting the snap from center.

Rubish is the center.

There's the snap.

He's back pumped short now going long down the sideline has a man wide open caught easy touchdown for Hayden

Altman.

We're having a hold

here

too.

It's coming back.

Flag in the backfield.

That was a pretty...

That was a lay hit on the quarterback.

Yep, holding.

That was a pretty pass so he got it mid.

So that'll bring up... He held him all the way down the ground so...

That will back it up ten yards stops the clock with 27 seconds remaining here in the first half after the grant show of interception I will grant trying to hit pay dirt they would have but there was a holding yeah, he held him pretty good so So back to square one here for IG brings up second down and it'll be second and 12

So as they huddle, they head to the football.

The ball is on the near hash mark here on the booth side of the field at Ithaca.

Hayden Altman splits out near side.

Friesen is here.

And in the back field is Brock Hinderman, shoved to his right.

There's the snap.

He's back to throw.

Ithaca Weston coming after him.

There is the throw.

He's got

a man

wide open over the middle.

Caught there by number 10 Owen Wyatt Wyatt breaks one tackle breaks another tackle.

He's down around the goal line and he is in Owen Wyatt with a touchdown reception 31 yards and Wyatt is in with 14 seconds remaining That'll make it 40 to nothing.

I will grant my

oh

my They still got a chance for a two-point conversion

So they will talk about it briefly Enderman back all alone in the backfield Awaiting the snap back to throw looks to the left throws over the middle It is caught down around the goal line and it is good two-point conversion to Hayden Altman makes it 42 nothing Iowa Grant 14 seconds remaining in the first half We'll be back with the final word on the first half in a moment from WRCO sports

to

nothing our score here unbelievable it's a it's a

shocker it is absolutely a shock to me so 14 seconds left to go back and half time regroup and see what happens Phil

be running clock in the second half now though and from here on out here goes number six Hayden Altman with the kick he just made the two-point catch falling on it is going to be Dre and they'll fall on it right around the 35 yard line

So Ithaca Western with a chance to run the offense out and talk about it Now the clock will start again remember it's a continuous clock and so it will run down before Ithaca Western can get up to the football Getting ready to run a play, but I don't think we're gonna have enough time That'll do it for the first half of football.

It's been all Iowa Grand They lead at 42 nothing here at level three

The season came to an end for the River Valley volleyball team earlier today.

The Blackhawks lost to Stanley Boyd in three games.

First two sets were fairly close at 25-23 and 25-21 before the Blackhawks lost to the final 25-16 and saw their season end.

31 wins and seven losses for the Blackhawks.

And moving on from that is Stanley Boyd.

The Orioles will face Watertown Luther Prep tomorrow

in the WIAA State Division three championship at the Res Center.

Congratulations to coach Mariah Hill and the River Valley team and their eight seniors for a phenomenal season, a regional championship, a sectional crown and a state semi-final appearance at the Res Center.

Their first trip there since 2005.

So it was memorable for their community and we wish it just would have lasted another day, but it wasn't to be.

The season comes to an end.

Congratulations to River Valley on a great season, thanks to all the sponsors and the fans in that area for their support.

Travis Wilson from bound Wisconsin as our guest Travis as we get ready for weekend number three fewer and fewer Southwest Wisconsin conference teams are still going these days

Yeah, not not many left.

In fact, if you look at the Schedule and look at kind of the map of where games are There's not much first-class or or south-central, Wisconsin There's a game in Epica, obviously.

There's a game down in Darlington.

There's a game

And that's about it.

Then you got to go to Madison or lacrosse.

So, uh, obviously there's some other teams that are playing on the road, but it is, uh, if you were far between for Southwest Wisconsin, unfortunately.

You were on hand last week at Ithaca with, uh, Ithaca Weston and Black Hawk.

And, uh, I guess, I mean, how, how you looked at the game and what, what impressed you about it?

Yeah, it was, uh, it was a great game and quite honestly,

It felt there for a little while, like Black Hawk was going to run away with it.

I don't know if you kind of got that feeling when Black Hawk had went up 16-nothing.

It was, you know, not going great for Ithaca at that time.

They hadn't really gotten a ton going offensively, but they found a way.

And obviously, kind of turned to the passing attack a little bit more.

That was what felt like it sparked things a little bit.

And that Keller to Keller connection, you know, was really good.

It was going really well.

got the ball to Spencer Nelson in the passing game a little bit as well, trying to get the ball in his hands in different ways, and just kept plugging away.

And came right down to the end, obviously, a great finish.

Blackhawk losing their running back.

Dutch Packlin, that had had such a big game, losing him kind of late, kind of hurt them.

And it was one of the contributing factors to get to the West end, making that comeback, and then holding on at the end.

Yeah, it is, uh, it is survival of the fittest when you get to the third level, isn't

it?

It is, um, you know, there's eight teams left in each division at this point.

So you're talking about the best of the best.

There will be a few lopsided scores here or there around the state, but by and large, I mean, you're playing a really good team.

You have to be a good team to win two playoff games.

Um, and so it's, it's nothing but good matchups from here on out.

This Iowa grant team, I know we've heard good things about them all year, but they are the real deal too, aren't they?

Certainly look like it.

Um, a team that, uh, obviously shared a conference title in a really good conference in the six rivers.

And, uh, you know, that's a conference that again, uh, Ithaca has, has brought up against a few times over the years and, um, kind of exercised the demon did Ithaca last night.

I was talking to Chad Clary and I think he told me, you know, you would know better than I, but, um,

If it had played Blackhawk five times previously, or maybe this was the fifth meeting, it'd never beat Blackhawk.

So the Six Rivers has kind of been a thorn in the side for a while.

But Iowa Grant comes in as a co-conference champion in that league.

They did have a couple of losses during the regular season, dropped one to Fenimore in non-conference play.

I should have opened the season, and then wanted this River Ridge in conference play.

But it's an interesting team.

In Southwest Wisconsin, we don't see a lot of teams that

that throw the ball a ton.

We don't see ones that have a ton of success doing it necessarily, but I would grant it's found a recipe to be very successful throwing the ball a lot.

Their quarterback Brock Hinderman has 238 passing attempts in 11 games so far.

So they're throwing it over 20 times a game.

He's been very good at it.

He's thrown a few interceptions, but also has done pretty well on the ground.

23 Russian touchdowns.

I think most of them are kind of shorter touchdowns when they get down into the red zone or inside the five.

They turn it to him to run it in.

But again, they found success throwing the football.

Now, that could be a dicey proposition sometimes, right?

You get deeper in the playoffs.

The weather starts to turn.

It gets colder.

You're playing better teams.

We've seen a lot of teams have had a lot of success throwing the football and then, you know, come November time, it gets a little harder.

I will say that when last week, not just beating Pepin Alma, who's a very good physical football team usually, but beating them so convincingly, it was 30 to nothing at halftime.

It was 38 to nothing with the final.

That shows that I have a grant can play with those physical football teams.

And so that will be an interesting task.

Pepin Alma runs a wingtea.

It's a little different version than some of the stuff that

Ithica Weston runs, but, um, yeah, it'll be interesting.

Uh, you know, pep in a homo last week through five interceptions.

It's because gotta avoid that kind of a scenario, but, uh, it's going to be a great game.

And I think Ithica Weston has to hope to maybe get a turnover, force a turnover somewhere along the way too.

Yeah.

Again, Hinderman is throwing 11 interceptions.

He's throwing one a game at this point, uh, so far this season.

So,

There'll be plenty of balls in the air, obviously, and plenty of opportunities for Ithaca Western to get their hands on.

And if they do, or if they have those chances, they've got to take advantage of it absolutely.

Turnovers are such a huge part of football in general.

Such a huge part as you get deeper into the playoffs, as the margins get smaller, as the gap between teams gets less and less.

Winning that turnover battle is huge.

And for Ithaca Western, to be an opportunity to steal a possession,

And, uh, you know, can certainly swing the tide.

What about other than that one other top games you're looking at for this weekend?

Well, again, everyone's a top game at this point, right?

Um, obviously people in, in it, the car are going to be, um, doing a little, a little scoreboard watching at that Coleman and Hilbert game down in the bottom part of that bracket.

Um, just in case, uh, if it does get through, that'll be an interesting one.

Uh, Coleman, uh, comes in, they've, they've had a lot of post-season success over the years.

Hilbert has as well.

Gilbert did pull an upset last week.

They're a third seed, and maybe second seeded Mowers Academy convincingly.

It was 35 to six.

They've really got it going and come play off time.

They're a team somewhat similar to some of the six river teams that, you know, comes out of a pretty good conference.

And Gilbert plays a lot of bigger competitions.

So that'll be an interesting one.

The game I'm going to this week with my research, Neaver's losing last week.

I'm going to go up and take in a big one in division one.

There's Wanaki, of course, of state power, will travel to Bayport, who has been in the state championship game the last two years.

We're looking forward to that one.

I've never been to Bayport per game.

I've seen them play several times.

I think every time I've seen them, it's been at Camp Randall.

But looking forward to getting out and getting to that one.

Hamilton and Arrowhead is a huge one in Division I as well.

Hamilton's undefeated.

Arrowhead is, of course, the defending champion in Division I.

So, uh, you know, those are a few of the bigger games on the schedule, but absolutely there are big games.

There are outstanding games in every division.

Isn't it fun to go to some of these towns and small towns and big towns on a Friday night and see how every community handles it?

It's pretty exciting this time of year.

Isn't it?

It is.

And we've been fortunate the last couple of years that we've heard that we played deeper into the playoffs and, uh, I haven't gotten out to a lot of games the last few years as, uh,

I've been coaching at Reedsburg, but you'll go back over 18, 20 years, whatever I've been doing this, going to new places and schools and communities and stadiums that I haven't seen.

That's one of the more fun things that I've gotten to do.

I've gone all over the state.

I've gone to Hurley.

I've gone to Cribbets.

I've gone to Richmond.

I've gone to the Southeast part of the state all over to watch games.

And it's pretty cool to see the different traditions, the different

Um, ways that, that schools and teams and programs, you know, do, do high school football on a Friday night.

There's obviously a lot of similarities.

There's, you know, the band, there's the crowds, there's the fans, but some of the different things that, uh, that they do at each place are unique and really a fun part of the high school football experience.

Indeed.

In terms of, uh, getting into next weekend, the next weekend, they'll be on neutral sites on turf fields for the most part.

Won't they?

Yeah.

They'll a hundred percent be neutral, uh, fields.

Um, neutral locations now, of course, that that is always a little bit of a sticking point for some people.

You know, why isn't it?

Why is this this game closer to the other team than it is to me?

Well, they can't build a corn.

They can't build a stadium in a corn field exactly the midway point between two places.

So they find a spot in between that has a suitable field, a suitable facility.

You know, we got to remember these are state semifinals, so they're trying to find good places.

that have enough crowd capacity, that have media capacity, that have the locker room facilities that are appropriate, all those kinds of things go into it.

And they do try to find turf fields.

I can't remember if last year was 100% turf.

I think for the last few seasons, it's generally been turf fields at that level because they want to control the weather impacts potentially of

No rain or whatever it might be and it's less than on a turf field.

So, uh, some great locations around the state to host all those games and we'll see where, uh, where they place everybody next week.

Absolutely.

As a broadcaster over the years, I thought, well, this would be the perfect spot and it's never there.

So I think you have to kind of go where they send you, right?

Yeah.

And you know, there's also, um, 14 games around the state trying to match up 28 teams.

So.

Sometimes the most perfect location for two teams is maybe a good location for another game as well So in the other part of it is people have to want to host as well You know there's there's places that have good facilities that just don't want to host or aren't able to or their team is playing and they know they don't want to they don't really have the manpower to Post a game if their team is still going so there's a lot of variables that go into play they they have Already they have

rough estimates of where they will have games.

There might be a few variables here or there based on who wins, but for the most part, they have their sites picked out.

They have a list of probably 15 to 20 sites that they have identified as options.

And then once the actual matchups come to fruition, then it's just a matter of put it all together quickly.

Some of the stadiums that I've had a chance to broadcast.

I'm sure you when you've been there too, it's like they look like many college fields, you know, like at Walworth Bigfoot or even the Dells, you know, it's pretty amazing.

Some of these locations now.

Yeah.

And obviously those are smaller schools that still have great facilities and you start getting into some of the bigger schools where they play, you know, at Mansfield Stadium in Madison, for instance, that holds I think 6,000 people.

Yeah.

There's often games at UW Oshkosh at Titan Stadium, which is

You know, one of the better facilities in the state.

Darrell had his hosted games.

They have an incredible facility.

So there's absolutely really good facilities around the state that serve as hosts for these games.

And you hope that everybody has an opportunity to get out and get to a game.

We played last year.

We played in the state semifinals.

We played down at Loser Stadium at Madison La Follette with an outstanding place to have a game.

Obviously, we came out on the right end of it, so we were happy.

And that's the thing.

Having a son that has played the last couple of years, having a senior that graduated last year as we were rolling on that playoff stretch has really made me appreciate more that every one of these games that we've watched in the playoffs and every game that we'll watch the rest of the playoffs has such a finality to it for so many people.

The players, the parents, the families, coaches,

Um, you know, I, I knew it.

I, I saw it.

I, you know, everything else before, but going through it last year, definitely, um, you know, kind of brought a different perspective to, to this whole process.

And, uh, for your seniors at Reedsburg sad time last week, uh, just couldn't get over the top last week, Travis.

Yeah.

We picked a bad time to play a really bad game.

Um, we, and you know, just couldn't get things going offensively.

Couldn't get stops that we needed defensively.

Um, you know, felt like we could have done some things better to counter some of the stuff that they had shown.

Um, but that's, that's how it goes.

You, you'd have to bring it every single game, every single play.

Um, because if you don't, you're going to end up like we were and upset and heading home.

Okay, Travis.

Well, thanks for your expertise.

We'll talk to you during the fourth week of the playoffs next week and enjoy your game tonight at Bayport.

Yeah, sounds good.

Appreciate it.

Phil and go bulldogs this week, right?

You bet.

Iowa Grant leading 42-0 at the break.

Brock Hinderman their quarterback opening up with a one-yard run.

Cole Schof caught a three-yard touchdown.

Also Hinderman threw a 12-yard pass to Cole Schof a little bit later on.

Blocked punt in the end zone recovered by I will grant and they score a touchdown Landon freezing with an interception return for 70 yards Which got the score with a minute 19 remaining and right at the end.

It was a

Oh, and Wyatt, I should say, catching a 31-yard pass.

Hayden Altman with a catch for the two-point conversion, and then that's where we stand here at halftime.

42 to nothing.

It's been all Iowa Grant.

Ithaca-Weston has been close a few times too.

Making plays and just have been just missed on a couple of fumble recoveries Just missed on a couple of big quarterback sacks early in the game and this Iowa grant team Proving they're the real deal if they go Western has struggled at times

Probably the score should not be as lopsided as it is, but I'm not taking anything away from Iowa Grant and their performance tonight.

They've done well leading 42 to nothing.

That means the continuous clock will run here in the second half Panthers will kick off ball taken right around the 25 yard line in return by Ithaca Weston up to around the 35 yard line the return man was number 14 Carter pleamer

That's where Ithaca Weston will take over for the second half The Ithaca Weston line that they've done a good job all year They've actually given the quarterback a little bit of time tonight Jacob Keller, but along the line Braxton foul Isaiah Fargent read Wapshaw Mason Van Coulter Hayden Burns Ben Otto all play in the the line positions and Ready to snap the ball is Van Coulter

There's Caller under center handoff.

That's a running play for Walmer and he's gonna burst for about a yard That's about all and brought down by tie cuts of Iowa Grand.

Hingbray is down shaking hands and kissing babies

As you welcome me back to the second half he's probably standing in line at the concession stand to there were there about 15 deep They told me beforehand that last week against Black Hawk Warren.

They sold believe was 150 cheeseburgers and it was like 200 brats and hot dogs and they up the ante tonight and I'd they probably ran out again This is a huge crowd for both sides Yeah, they go Weston with the ball second down that is going to be marked

right around their own 32 yard line ball right in the middle of the field top of the pitch here is the handoff running play and it's going to go nothing on that left right I should say the right tackle spot ball carry is brought down after a gain of maybe only yard Spencer Nelson nothing there and that brings up a third down and long for Ithaca Weston.

Hank Bray has returned from the concession stand

Anything left down there?

Nope.

No hot chocolate left

buddy.

I got them all down.

Did you?

Oh, okay.

That's good Hot chocolate probably wouldn't be hot by the time you got up the stairs to the booth.

I'll tell you

what Beautiful night for football

though.

It is a good night.

We had a good chat with the officials while they're up here.

Yeah, young guys This is one of the younger crews I've seen Third down and nine yards to go for Ithaca-Weston

Two men wide to the near side and awaiting the snap there is Keller handoff running play and Nelson up the middle again blasted right at the line of

scrimmage 68 I believe Philip is the tackle made the tackle.

Yeah, two plays in a row for Spencer

for a bigger

guy.

He's pretty he's pretty agile number 68.

Yeah, Ethan Muldering All right fourth down

and about eight yards to go for Ithaca-Weston so they hammered a couple times on that right side of the line and not much to show for it and they will try the punt it looks like they've got a man back deep let's see what they do awaiting the snap from center is the punter takes it and he's going to get it away

keller bounces it around the forty yard line picked up by i.g.

there's flag

there's another one forty five

fifty to the near side he slides down right around the thirty five yard line and out of bounds good return on that play by hoffman see they're gonna be a block in the back our target okay

our blindside I'm sorry blindside block our target block in the back here

so

that's gonna come all the way back to right around

That's going to be the 44 in the market.

15 yards from there.

All right.

That's what they'll do.

42 nothing.

Iowa grant in the lead in this one.

Tim got you some

others less.

They have offsetting penalties here.

Let's see what, cause there is a penalty flag.

Like at the 30 yard line, Phil.

So the officials discuss it.

The time ticks off here in the third quarter.

Ethica Weston has not lost a game this year and right now Iowa Grant with two losses on the year, but they've been on a roll here.

They've

made a really, really good cast-filting too.

So I was going to say, just within their conference, they have a good group there to play in.

So they're going to pick up the flags on the far side now explaining it.

Block below the waist IG declined block below the back.

I will grant accepted

So two penalties on the play and one's accepted one is uh is annoyed Nord

Say they will march that off We're at the Rockwell automation sports desk raised do it best center as well and Trying to put my hand under the light to keep my hand warm here

You're a little warm.

You're a little cold.

Don't you buddy?

Hey, you did leave your pillow though in my.

Oh yeah, that's

right.

I appreciate that.

There you go.

You'll probably never see that again.

There's still a flag laying over here

on the field.

Someone will pick it up.

Looks like it's frozen maybe.

Gonna be a little frosty tonight.

Cover up your pansies.

Yeah, so the ball goes all the way back to the 34 yard line.

You can cover up with my blanket.

Thanks buddy.

I have a grant with the football first in 10 from the 33 yard line.

There's the snap.

Hinderman will hand off.

Running play left side.

Not much for Schultz stacked up by a good Ithaca-Weston defensive front.

Spencer Nelson and Landon Walner.

So no gain on the play.

Second down and ten.

Still hitting hard.

They are hitting hard.

They need to continue.

You know, with football, Phil, when a young man lays up on a hit or something, that's when you get hit.

If you're not going 100%, that's when you get hurt.

Yep, that's when you're likely to get this what used to tell me.

Yeah me.

Don't be a wimp, you know You're gonna get hurt.

I'm a wimp anyway.

Yeah, exactly what I used to tell him I Will grant with the football second down about 11 yards to go from their own 32.

There's the snap handoff Nope, they're gonna fake the handoff hitterman's throwing over the middle It's caught and freezing could go all the way one man to beat He's gone all the way down the sidelines

for a 65-yard touchdown and Iowa Grant adds to it here tonight.

Going up 48-nothing.

Hinderman to Landon Friesen.

And the two-point conversion coming up.

Stops the clock with 541 remaining in the third quarter.

Iowa Grant will huddle up.

They've gone for the two each time.

Presumably have a kicker, but we haven't seen haven't

seen him.

Yeah We probably go for two all the time.

Yeah, we've seen him punt once

So we know he has and we know he they can kick off a tee

So Hinderman awaiting the snap from center to mental left two men wide right He's all alone in the backfield back to throw guns it over the middle caught and it cuts with the catch for the two-point conversion

So that makes it a 50 to nothing lead Iowa Grant 541 remaining in the third WIA a level 3 football from WRCO radio sports

you know what fill it uh big time surprise i did not expect this tonight at all

and i don't i don't think a lot of people did

Well, he took it to a good Pepin Alma team last week as well.

But I mean, I think it's number one seed.

They get it going.

They can pass.

Well, um, do a lot of things.

Well, and defensively wise, they probably more impressed me than anything.

Maybe that's been the biggest surprise.

Their defense is just, I mean, again, they have 11

guys in the box.

Somebody jumped flags everywhere.

You saw the defense first, but they may have been drawn off.

And I think they were.

So they'll talk about it back it off five yards or Ithaca Weston Weston and Ithaca letter jackets here tonight good to see both crowds are gonna see the Co-op team for girls basketball this year again.

They should be pretty decent this year shouldn't they I mean

they

might be one

of the surprises of the league yes They'll start practice on Monday Hank are ready.

Yeah Monday.

I think wrestling and girls basketball starts on Monday, okay?

then boys starting the following week First in 15 from the 33 snap to Jacob Keller back to throw rolls to the right side guns it and it's caught by Spencer Nelson turns up field and he is Bear hug there at the original line of scrimmage came of about five Tackled made by trapper Hoffman That's

a

good name in a trapper trapper.

That's a good name for a football player So they'll give Nelson

About six or seven yards on that one second down to nine yards to go for Ithaca Western Well, just go out and have a little fun here.

Yeah, go out.

Yeah, but but continue to play hard,

you

know

and they are doing that No, the score might not indicate that but they are are working hard

So, you know, it's just and again, you don't want anybody hurt here, so you know on flip side though I'll grant

I don't understand their offensive plays and why the starting lineup is still in there.

And that's just me.

And even as an official, you're asking yourself on the field, like, why are they still here?

You know?

Risk

injury.

100%.

Got to play next week.

I mean, the game is pretty much said.

Why risk injury and why continue to run a

score up.

Jacob Keller runs to the right side.

He is brought down right around the original line of scrimmage there.

Could not get back to the line and tie cuts leading the tackles.

But anyway, Iowa grants basketball team.

I don't know if you've seen those lately, but those guys run and gun like crazy.

So I mean, they, they're just basically like their football team in the hurry up, hurry up and go,

go, go.

Well, their season start might be delayed a little bit and they wouldn't mind that.

That's a good problem to have, right?

That's a good problem to have.

Third down and 10 for Ithaca Weston ball on their own 39 yard line Van Coulter up to snap the football two men wide to the near side for IW There's the snap and there's the running play and trying to go right side the quarterback is brought down They expected that they were a couple of yard loss.

Yep.

They were waiting now that one out Jacob Keller know where to go Boy, he's a durable young man.

Oh, he is any

Takes some hits from time to time.

Brings up fourth down and 11 yards to go.

And he's a pretty good baseball player too.

Yeah.

Got a little Casanova Reds time this year.

So let's go here for a fourth down.

Check some notes on the Phil Knee flip phone.

Sponsored by Miser Marcy Struckard Alzheimer's event going on tomorrow.

Troy Clary tells me wrestling starts the same day as boys basketball.

So not Monday the next Monday.

Thank you Troy.

There's a kickoff fair catch called and it's a ball taken of the 29 yard line on the catch by freezing.

So their second possession starts at the 29 yard line.

I'm gonna put it at the 30 film.

With just over a minute remaining here.

Wisconsin meets Delaware and men's basketball 73-64.

Coleman leading Hilbert 22-14, third quarter.

Coleman will be the next opponent of the winner here,

right?

Coleman or

Hilbert, whoever the winner that is.

Ithaca played Hilbert back in 2001 and the fourth round of the playoffs last time Ithaca was in the fourth level So some curtain calls it looks like now for Iowa Grant bringing a few guys to the sideline With 40 seconds remaining here in the third quarter So Ithaca Western Bringing in a few extra players Carrick Thompson is now in the defensive secondary and Blake Dre as well

There's the snap from center and the quarterback hands off Iowa Grant hit and dropped in the backfield new quarterback is number nine trapper Hoffman No gain on the play And that'll do it for the third quarter 50 to nothing Iowa Grant leading here in high school football fourth quarter coming up next from WRCO FM 100.9 and WRCO comm

Oh, I would.

I don't know if that would let me though.

No, that's true.

Anyway, Durand Arkansas trailing Darlington now 47 nothing in the third quarter and Concord, Fountain City 2113 over River Ridge in high school playoff football tonight.

50 to nothing Iowa Grant leading both teams gonna bring it in a few different looks now Ithaca Weston out on the defensive side and For the Iowa Grant Panthers again a new quarterback trapper Hoffman You'll take it out of the shotgun and now rolls to the near side of the quarterback option in a pitch and the running play for Grant Schof and he is brought down immediately by number 56 Trenton Straca

He was a freshman for Ithaca Weston.

Ithaca Weston is going to have some kids return next year.

You bet.

They're going to basically reload.

Dalton Im is in, so is Jeff Bain.

Number 50 is Braxton Fowle.

He remains in there.

Number 60 is Ozzie Schell.

Number 14 is Carter Plemer.

Number 22 Easton Nelson out there as well Third down and about eight yards to go waiting the snap from center is the quarterback And there's the quarterback back to throw and he's gonna whip one over on the far side hangs it up in the air And it is gonna be intercepted by Ithaca Weston's coming legs will fly It's gonna be picked off there by number 22 Easton Nelson and back to around the 35, but it is going to not stand says Hank

Yeah, that's that's a pass interference on both guys on the defense

So a double whammy brings it back Coming into the game for Ithaca is Owen Knuth First down for IG after the pass interference play

So a number of miles today.

Yeah, we have yeah, it's been it's been a

450

today 450 wish we would had better news for teams.

Yeah It is good

day, you know what it's we're very blessed to have the teams we have it especially, you know We seem like we get blessed with with good athletes and good teams and we get to go to these things Yeah, you know

it didn't often that they go to the third level of playoffs or the state volleyball tournament So is that especially in the fall?

It's tougher in the fall and then a good year

They say if your teams get off to a good start in the fall, the rest of your winter sports and spring sports teams normally will do well.

So we hope that's the case.

Yes.

I will grant staying in the huddle.

They're not running the play yet.

Now the back line judge has the hand up.

That's for 10 seconds.

And then when he starts chopping, it'll be five seconds back to throw.

Now the QB Hoffman throws it right.

So I caught and then hit immediately.

Good coverage by ethical lessons popping up right away.

Let's see if we can.

Pick out the number and

number 30 20 30 33 that's 33 33 Blake Drey You just got new glasses too, didn't you?

Yeah, but I got his number was kind of

crunched up.

I know it that happens Sometimes the numbers in the front are you know a little smaller partners see to Second down and about 13 to play for Iowa Grant They lead it 50 to nothing eight nine minutes and eight seconds remaining here in the football game

Trapper Hoffman giving signals in the backfield now waiting to snap perhaps the hands and now hands up running play up the gut He's got a little room gets about a eight or nine yard pop crosses the 50 to the 45 of Ithaca Western on the running play there by Freddie Rodriguez like a trial and that is going to be a stop there by Ithaca Western Number 60 on the tackle Aussie shell

Yeah, nice run right up the gut and Because all these kids, you know, they all put the time in as well.

Absolutely.

They're the scout team And they are the the team that Helps out in a lot of ways and they're the future right?

Yeah 100% they are the future of the football here

Give him a shot.

Third down and two yards.

Snap to the quarterback.

He's got a first down running up the gut.

Spun around, running down to the 35, to the 34 of Ithaca-Weston.

Running play by Trapper Hoffman.

And on the tackle, look like Easton Nelson coming up from the back.

And number 81, Kashton Katharal.

Number 24, Ryder Thiering coming in the game for Ithaca-Weston.

Thank you.

He's a freshman as well.

So lots of freshman getting some time here But I think it's been a really good first year of the franchise and we talked about Wrestling was the first school that these are the first sport these schools took part in and that success I think led to some other unions.

Oh, yes, I think this is a good year.

I really do I It's helped both schools.

It's so it's returned West into 11 player football, right?

Yeah, and it's helped if they got to stay 11 player

Back to throw is going to be Hoffman throws to the near side.

It is caught and spinning away is Cade Halverson and he's got nearly a first down looks like he got it Tackled me by number 24 writer there nice tackle Held

on

for dear life doesn't he yes, he did Eight player football has had some struggles this year.

You know even with eight player.

There are lots of forfeits Which is unfortunate?

Very much so.

645 remaining here in the ball game.

If they go west and scrambling somebody off the field.

And I will grant him no hurry to snap this football.

No, take as much time off as they can.

Trapper Hoffman watching the backline judge.

10 seconds running in the play.

Here is the fake handoff.

He's going to roll to the near side, puts it on his left hip and gains a couple down to the 25.

24 yard line, maybe.

Cleaner makes the stop He stays in bounds doesn't matter here's the clock will continue to run.

Nope doesn't matter

The only thing that can stop that clock now Philip is a Score a score timeout now or an injury

I will grant back in the huddle Or like if you ran across the field

Stop me too.

Yeah I Will grant line is set for wide receiver set.

There's the snap back to throw a pump and short now the quarterback guns it toward the end zone over shot.

He's man intended for Tucker likes Complete Carter pleamer on the defense And with five and a half to play that brings up a third down Coleman and Hilbert tied at 22.

How about that?

Oh, wow

That's in the fourth quarter.

Great ball game.

Belmont leading Wabino Leona, 36 to 20.

That game going on tonight in Wapaka.

In Wapaka, yes.

We could have stayed and did that game too.

We could have stayed

and

done

that game too.

Yeah.

the right guard what he did he went down to the ground with his with his with his arm his his his hand was in the dirt you can't lift that up once you're down

okay that's what happened yep all right so the center up to snap the ball Kenneth Halverson for Iowa Grant awaiting the snap there again they're taking a lot of time off we're down to four and a half minutes remaining in the game third down and sixteen yards to go ballmarked on the Ithaca western

30 yard line.

Trapper Hoffman takes the snap, the quarterback rolls, pitches near side, it's loose in the backfield and it's going to be called dead in the backfield.

So on the pitch play.

That could, and the only reason that was it because it was a forward pass.

It was forward wasn't it?

It was, yep.

So that'll bring

up fourth down.

Down to four minutes remaining.

Continuous clock has been running since 14 seconds remained in the first half.

in this game as Iowa Grant continues to hold the lead.

They have built it here with a touchdown in the second half.

They were up 42-0 at halftime and now 50-0 and the clock winding down.

340 remaining in the game.

IG in the Ithaca Western Territory with a fourth down and 16.

There's the snap.

Quarterback is back to throw.

They're coming after him.

Now he's going to run to the far side.

Ithaca-Weston has got him, and then he breaks, and he's running to the right side, throws it incomplete.

So he stayed alive quite a while, didn't he?

Yes, he did.

He actually did pretty well.

Kind of looked like the starting quarterback, Brock Hinderman.

Ithaca-Weston could not hold him down.

So turning it over on downs is Iowa Grant for the first time tonight.

They have punted once and they've turned it over on down this once.

And Ithaca-Weston for its next possession, getting a chance to get on with this one.

It was, let's see, the play call on the near side, number 25 into the ball game, that is Gage Busher.

He's a tall young man, isn't he?

Yes, he is.

Gage is a junior.

And with 240 to play, Ithaca-Weston with the football.

Nelson splits out wide to the far side Under center there is the snap from quarterback pliemer is gonna hand off and a running play for Ithaca Weston netting What a little bit how much is it not much maybe a yard number 56 ran the ball there?

My eyes didn't this evening.

You're right Trenton Straca the ball carrier I couldn't believe it.

I was looking down.

I'm like, that's not a running back.

Is it?

Fool the old boy

Yeah, 56 in the backfield, along with Blake Gray, number 33, Carter, Plymer, the quarterback, two minutes to play.

There's the snap.

Plymer hands off the Lake Gray running left side, tries to break the corner and gang tackled by Al Gore and a fumble.

Iowa Grant, make it a

big hit.

Looks like they have the down.

I think a Weston recovers that.

Okay.

They've been able to do that a couple of times here tonight.

So that will take it back a 42 nothing lead for IG at halftime and again one touchdown in the second half coming up We will have the Jolenec plumbing and heating post game show and the Duncan Awards turning point and Some more scores the mr. Fabulous post post game show coming up tonight For the final time this season

Well for football anyway,

and yeah

Carter pliemer is into the

huddle.

I don't freaking talk.

I'll tend to do basketball every Friday.

I don't know I Don't that's in his contract.

I don't know either So down to a minute remaining in this one Ithaca Western with a football.

There's a pitch and the running play Dray tries to break the right side gets down the sideline Dray is down and now pushed out of bounds right around the 45 yard line nice little running back.

He is Late great.

Good athlete.

He's a sophomore.

Yes

So gets the first down moves the sticks not afraid to hit you and Down to possibly the final plays coach Kyle Kelly sending the play out Ithaca Western coaching staff starting to take the head gear off,

but you know what they're still coaching though they have huge huge signs of just Always trying to get better

First down and ten from the 45 yard line of Iowa Grant running play Running up the gut for a couple of yards to down around the 41 yard line is the ball carrier number 56 again That'll be the final carry Trenton Straca takes it and that'll do it as the clock winds down on this one 50 to nothing the final score Iowa Grant sends another statement and they're going to the fourth level of the WIAA

football playoffs.

A lot of emotion for this Ithaca-Weston team as their season comes to an end.

Welcome back to Ithaca fill me along with Henry Ray for the Gelenic plumbing and heating post game show tonight We reward our Duncan rewards turning point of the game Hank and well probably got to go back to the first half

sometime you know mine My play that I remember Phil is one of those where The Ithaca or Iowa Grant caught it Ithaca rip stripped it and had three chances to To get on the ball

And to me, it just turned from that point.

It just seems like their bubble popped right there.

That's right.

Yeah, so they had a big chance, because I believe it was only 6-0 at that time.

And Ithaca had been going the other way, and they actually turned around, and I think two plays later, our grand scored.

Right, you're right.

You get it back there.

Maybe it's a little bit different story, but Iowa Grant was running downhill all night

long.

From the get-go, they scored with less than a minute in the game, and they didn't stop.

Kept going,

and scored with 14 seconds in the half as

well.

Kudos to Ithaca Western.

What a season.

What's something that

that this community and this school and these kids have endured and great ride, Phil.

Great

ride.

And my hands off

to

them.

Lots of emotion and they're out huddling in the end zone talking about it right now.

But yeah, this team has persevered through a lot this year.

But kudos to Iowa Grant.

They've beaten some good programs in the playoffs.

Oh, they have.

So the Hinterman kids are real deal.

And I'm going to be honest, Phil.

I know that everybody likes my bluntness, but I don't think Ithaca Weston played the best of their ability tonight.

I think there's a step off, and we mentioned that early in the ball game.

It just seems like they were a little bit behind, and I don't think they ever caught up.

But they had a great season, and those kids are awesome.

First loss of the year in the third level of the playoffs.

That is good year.

Pretty good.

Pretty good season.

We'll be back with more in a moment from Ithaca.

The

Weston going through the sidelines and a slap and high fives of their fans as they make their way and thank the fans for their support all season long and Even in the cold weather and a cold night like this here this evening final score goes to Iowa Grandside with a 52 to nothing win here over the Ithaca

Weston franchise first score tonight came from Brock Hinderman with a run of his own making that a six-nothing lead after the quarterback run two-point conversion was good and then it was a three-yard run by Cole Schoff to make it 14 nothing the two-point conversion was good against the first two-point

failed.

Second one was good with a Hinderman pass to land in Friesen and it was 14 nothing after the first quarter.

Later on, Hinderman with a 12 yard pass to Cole Schoff.

Ty Kotz got the two pointer to make it 22 nothing and then Iowa Grant went up 28 nothing with their only defensive touchdown tonight.

A blocked punt.

They recovered it in the end zone and they were able to get up 28 nothing.

They did punt the ball away in their next possession.

An interception of the Ithaca-Weston pass by Landon Friesen gave them the ball back and Friesen caught a pass on offense and he was able to run it back.

That was an interception return for a touchdown of 70 yards.

I take that back and that put Iowa Grant up.

At that point, Ithaca Weston did get an interception from Jacob Keller among their defensive highlights on the night, and Grant Schultz with an interception for Iowa Grant, setting up their final play before half.

It was Owen Wyatt with a 31-yard run, and Hayden Altman with a two-point conversion catch to make it a 42-nothing lead at halftime.

Iowa Grant would score one more time.

It was Brock Hinderman throwing a pass to tie cuts and a 48 to nothing lead.

Cuts caught the two-pointer and it was 50 to nothing and that would be the final score here tonight at Ithaca as IG gets the win and they're playing for another week.

Good leadership

It's been great to work with them all season long.

Tonight's game engineered by Mr. Fabulous, Tim Thied.

Coming up, the Fabulous post-post game show.

Again, this one belongs to Iowa Grant.

They get it done, 52-nothing, moving on to the WIAA playoffs, ending the magical year for Ithaca Weston.

For Hank Bray, who's, he's checked out and he's a little tired.

He didn't get naps like I did today.

It's been a great day, though, covering sports, which we had better news, but it wasn't to be for River Valley's volleyball team.

And now I think a Western football sees its year end in level three of the WIAA football.
