And also it is cross-country action.

The state meet is wrapping up in Wisconsin Rapids this afternoon.

Ithaca Western scored 18 points in the second half or come from behind 18 16 win over visiting Black Hawk Warren in WIA playoff football last night.

Following the 18 16 win Ithaca Western now 10 wins without a loss will host a level three WIA playoff football game against Iowa Grant.

The Panthers won 38 nothing last night over Pepin Alma.

Well, first of all, that Thursday night match was crazy.

From the coaching standpoint, what stands out about that win?

Well, our grit, I think, definitely stands out.

And our model this year has refused to lose.

And I think last night was definitely a testament to that.

definitely worked very hard for that win.

And we definitely refused to lose.

I mean, being down six, 11 and set five and battling back to win 15, 13 is a big one.

I mean, that's pretty exciting.

Yeah, it is.

And I think a lot of people stepped up and know you had an injured player, Carly Birchfield come in and boy, she really contributed, didn't she?

Yeah, she sure did.

I mean, we watched her in warmups and her warmup for great.

And I just kind of talked to her a little bit after warm-ups.

I said, hey, you warmed up great.

So be ready when we need you, if we need you.

And I just kind of noticed right away, I'm like, I think we need her.

I think we need that chemistry and that spark.

And she came in and did a great job.

She did exactly what she needed to do and having a couple of days off and getting healed and it worked in our favor.

Was there a turning point in that fifth set that you can circle?

Well, I think I took a time out when it was 5 to 10 and it was my last time out and I said girls this is it I said this is what we prepare for all season long This is why we're in the weight room.

This is what we work hard for and I said this is you know What big moments can happen for us if we just go out there and refuse to lose and I looked at all of them and I said I believe in you and I love you and you guys can do this and That was the turning point.

We

side it out right away and then we pushed back and I think Braille and served like six or seven serves in a row to get us the lead to 1312 and then we just held on.

We had the momentum and we just never let go of it.

let's break down the matchup with Cambridge.

What do you know about them?

You know, I haven't had a chance to watch film yet.

Um, but from what I've kind of heard a little bit on paper, we're the better team.

Um, staff wise, I've gone and looked at our stats and kind of compared them to theirs.

We're definitely the better team, but you know, they're they're rolling through this sectional to just like we are.

So I think we're going to match up well.

Once I watch film and I'll know a little bit more.

I think we are bigger and I'm hoping that our experience really pulls out.

I know they have a senior setter that kind of looks like she's the leader of that team.

I checked her stats.

She's got great stats, but everything stats wise runs in our favor.

So I hope that that's a plus for us.

Do you know anything about similar opponents, people that you've played and they have?

No, we haven't played anyone similar either.

So that kind of is stuck for us too.

You know, I'm at a loss here.

I'm going to definitely try to watch some film this afternoon.

My assistant coach is watching film right now as well.

So we're just going to kind of figure out a game plan, but really it's just up to us to play our game, do what we do.

use our strengths and work really hard on our side, keep our errors low and stay positive and stay focused.

It's hard to imagine somebody being a tougher matchup than Verroqua was.

I mean, but, but you never know until you get there, do you?

Yeah, right.

We never know.

I mean, on paper, when I kind of looked at Verroqua too, it was very similar.

Um, we had played a similar, um, we had played an same opponent and we had beaten that opponent that they had lost to.

And I kind of compared Baroque to last year's mineral point team that we lost to in regional finals.

And luckily we have more experience on our side.

And I'm hoping that that experience pushes us through tomorrow too.

Well, the program has already benefited from the levels that you've gotten through, but what would it mean to the program if you could get to the next level here this year?

Man, it would mean everything.

I mean, these girls have worked so hard.

not only this year, but throughout the years.

I mean, they are true, true passionate volleyball players.

They love this game.

They love their teammates.

They have brought the culture of our program and set the standard.

And we're just really excited.

We haven't gone, we haven't had it gone to state since 2005.

And it would just mean everything to all of us, to the program, to the school, to the community.

And we're very hopeful.

I mean, we're excited and

We're running on all cylinders right now.

Yeah.

And speaking of the community, boy, what a turnout it's been for the tournament.

It's grown at every level.

And I'm guessing they've kind of inspired you to victory sometimes too, haven't they?

Yeah, absolutely.

Having a great crowd is always great.

And we were so lucky to be able to be at home all through this pole season run.

And I think we're going to have a big crowd tomorrow night.

I think everybody's going to be coming to Marshall to support us.

The game got moved up to four o'clock, which is great.

And we're so lucky to have an amazing student section too that really comes out and supports this team.

You know, keys for us is hopefully they can't stop LMIers.

And the rest of our team really contributes to put up some numbers too.

OK, that should be a good matchup.

As what we've learned from Cambridge is obviously they're having a great season.

Come in with a record just about like River Valley's.

They are 28 and 4 River Valley 30 and 6.

And we know that Cambridge has a great serve.

And that's one of the things

River Valley has to be very

concerned

about

today.

Yeah, we've been talking around and that is actually a big concern for River Valley is how they're going to serve, actually serve receive.

But other than that, and Cambridge does pass well.

Yes.

That's something that River Valley is going to have to be on the look out there on the defensive side of the ball.

The Black Rocks have played a tough schedule.

We've talked about their strength of schedule.

I would put it up against about anybody in the division, the teams they play and the tournaments they play

during the year.

You were saying earlier that the amount of tournaments they go to and the elite competition that they go to is

And comparing the schedules, though, it's nothing like Cambridge had.

Right.

So River Valley is well-tested.

And what I like about River Valley, they have some younger kids that just step up and play.

Yeah, they really have.

Here are the tournament especially.

And namely, Brooklyn White, a junior, Carly Birchfield, a junior, who's come back from injury to help out immensely.

They have just really, and you know, you start naming names, there's a lot of them here, but they've really gotten some strength and some players that have improved this year and have helped the cause.
