The Huskies were good Very good as a matter of fact in the second and third

periods last night, came out a little bit slow.

Alaska was really good in the first period, took it to the Huskies for the most part, but Michigan Tech ended up with a one-nothing lead after period number one, a two-nothing lead after two, and a three-nothing final, scoring one more in that third period.

But tonight's a new story.

Michigan Tech will try to get a sweep against Alaska, who desperately needs a win.

Game time is set for 6.07, and yes, it is Hall of Fame weekend.

All the inductees were officially inducted yesterday

afternoon and will be recognized on the ice tonight after they were already recognized at Michigan Tech football earlier today at Curly Stadium.

Michigan Tech with a three to nothing shutout last night.

Owen Bardiskevich gets his first shutout of the season.

His second as a Husky and his fourth of his career.

He was impressive.

30 saves on 30 Alaska shots.

The Huskies were good.

Very good as a matter of fact in the second and third periods last night came out a little bit slow.

Alaska was really good in the first period.

Took it to the Huskies for the most part but

Michigan Tech ended up with a 1-0 lead after period number one, a 2-0 lead after two, and a 3-0 final, scoring one more in that third period.

But tonight's a new story.

Michigan Tech winning last night by a score of three to nothing.

The Latke Nanooks really played well in that first period.

The Huskies not so much in period number one.

Michigan Tech outshot 11 to six in the first.

But they did get the first goal of the game.

And it was Matthew Vamblericom.

His fourth of the season.

This was a pretty one from Giovanni Morneau.

Here it was at the 13-17 mark.

No score.

Alaska has half the upper hand.

You had to give it to one team.

They have nine shots on goal.

A couple of odd man rushes.

Huskies with three shots on goal, but a chance across the line.

No more, no with a pass to the front right to back.

Huskies brought up one nothing going into the second period.

Michigan Tech killed off a five-minute major penalty to Luke Shipley, who took a contact to the head call.

He was given a game misconduct, so was out for the rest of the game.

Michigan Tech killed it off, in fact, looked really good in shutting down the power play for Alaska.

In the last three minutes of that, they got very few opportunities, and the Huskies built off that penalty killing success and made some offense happen.

Conor Roulette gets his second of the season.

Here it was to make it two-nothing at the

17 minute mark of the second period.

Huskies out shooting UAF by a 18 to eight count in period number two.

We go to the third period.

For the Nanooks, ended up with 36 saves.

Owen Bartoskiewicz, as I mentioned, gets his fourth career shot out.

Second is a Husky stopping 30 shots from the Alaska Nanooks.

The Huskies slightly won the face-off battle last night, which is good because Michigan Tech struggled mightily on that last weekend at St.

Clown.

Most of them were not in Huskies' favor, as, of course, were rooting for all of the CCHA teams when they're playing out of conference.

Merrimack defeated Minnesota State in overtime.

4-3 was the final in that game.

Bowling Green lost to Niagara 3-2 in overtime as well.

Northern Michigan won, though.

They beat Stonehill down at the very event center.

5-1 final there.

And Alaska Anchorage defeated Lake Superior State by a score of 5-2.

Minnesota Duluth defeated Minnesota State.

7-1 that game was close through the first period 2-1 lead for the Bulldogs but then they just lit it up in the second four goals and then one more in the third and hopefully Minnesota can get a split on that and again why are we rooting for Minnesota because we played Minnesota we beat Minnesota we want them to do well it helps the points in non-conference play some other games of interest Michigan and Denver that was a big matchup out West and Michigan wins that one by a score of four to one Wolverines never trailed in

got a goal in the first, the second, and then in the third to make it 3-0 Denver with a power play goal relatively late, made it 3-1 and they finished it off for the Wolverines with one more goal late in that third period.

Coming up tonight, Minnesota State will try to earn a split against Merrimack, same with Bowling Green as they host Niagara.

Northern Michigan will go for the sweep against Stonehill.

Augustana will try to complete the sweep against Omaha.

They played two nights ago and Augustana won that game.

Lake Superior State University will continue to be up in a line.

You've been saying all week that some of our guys need to get better.

You've been mentioned some names and I'm going to mention some names and I hope I'm right.

Tristan DeLyle was a lot better last night.

Guys like Giovanni Mornault seem to be a lot better last night.

Did I read that right?

And are these guys playing better hockey?

Yeah, I think, you know, Tristan's a young player.

Super excited about him.

He's fun to coach.

He's got a great attitude and he's a really good player and he's finding his way and adapting to college hockey.

He seems to be getting more and more comfortable every day.

And I thought, gee, won some races and battles.

He made a great play on Matty Van Blaircombe's first goal there, winning a race, winning a battle, and then making a great pass.

Good to see him getting involved.

And I thought Conor Roulette did some really good things last night.

And then Morgan Brady on the back end came in and played his first game in college.

I thought he was tremendous for us, physical, moved some pox and got his first assist as well.

So those were bright spots.

Also, the face

outs were a lot better.

In the end, we only had a slight edge.

But overall, it seemed like we won important draws.

Yeah, no question.

I think that's important when you can win draws, get momentum.

You know, I didn't like our start, but as we got going into the game, I thought we generated a lot and had a lot of opportunities.

And we kind of went through the video, identified some areas that we can just do a little bit better.

But overall, you know, to

to not give up any goals.

That's a good recipe.

Can you talk a little bit more about the penalty kill, Coach?

We seem to win board battles on the penalty kill, which is somewhat unusual.

We really shut them down on that five-minute major.

Can you school us a little bit of what we did so well?

Well, I think when you can get stalls and you can create battles on the wall and get into that, so, you know,

opportunities for that or maybe off of bobbled pox it gets on the on the yellow or rebound or a loose pock retrieval.

That's where we've identified where we can pressure and you know we want to try and get a stall and a 200 foot clear off of that.

So when we're doing a good job I thought last night is that that five minute major kill went on.

We did a tremendous job as a group.

I would imagine you're you've let the team know some of your feelings on the penalties that were

taking.

Is it concerning a little bit some of the calls that we're taking right now or is it just part of the game?

I think it's a little bit of both.

You know, after watching the game back, you know, I think there's a lot of stuff that, you know, you're looking for consistency both ways.

And sometimes when you're, you're winning the hockey game, I think, you know, officials may have an attend, a tendency to ref the score versus the game.

And I think, you know, last night,

after watching the game back and even live, I felt that way a little bit.

But it's a tough job and our penalties were penalties and we have to do a better job with that and have more discipline.

But special teams are so critical.

You hate to see scoring chances get negated because it really takes the skill out of the game.

Coach, it's early on Saturday, but do you have any idea if we'll see any changes in the lineup tonight?

Yeah.

We'll kind of play it by, I think, if we make any adjustments, it might be one change.

But other than that, we might see some different line combinations tonight.

J. Durkembrough along with former NHL'er and Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Famer Brent Peterson.

We could go on a lot more of titles for him, but we'll just keep the two.

And also Brady Gledo is back with us tonight on the broadcast as we get set for a big tilt between the Huskies and the Nanooks.

Huskies winning 3-0 last night Brent and Michigan Tech really kind of took it to the Nanooks in the second and third periods playing some really good hockey.

Yeah they sure did.

What sort of impressed me the most is the pace at which they played.

They just created so much pressure all over the ice.

Didn't give the Nanooks any time to create any space whatsoever then they maintained that pace.

Really, almost every shift through the second and third period.

So the Natnicks also, I thought they hung with us pretty well.

They're a good skating team.

They're fast and quick as well, but they had an excellent game.

The challenge tonight for Michigan Tech is to repeat those last two periods and bring it here in the first on the second night.

Van Blericom continues to be red hot early on in the sophomore season.

He's kind of like the go-to guy right now.

The Huskies have several of those, but boy, he's playing really good hockey.

Four goals already through five games.

Yeah, you can see him last year kind of grow and develop.

And he made that even larger step over the summer to this season.

He's playing with some confidence.

I love how fast and quick he plays.

He's got a lanky type of stride.

And when he gets a step on him on his opponent, they're not going to catch him.

And now when you throw some confidence in there, that quick little

Backhand move there.

That's a highly skilled play.

Very

important that he didn't try to do too much on that play, Brent.

Were you coming

in that hot?

Yeah, and he's coming in at such a rate of speed.

You don't have time to do too much.

You're just kind of a little shimmy there and that throws a goalie.

That's all he needs and that's the empty net.

But when you're playing without much speed, the ice close is quick and he plays in a simplified manner.

And I think that's why he's having such

success here early on.

Grady Glada was with us up here in the Bob Olson Media Center, but he'll be heading down soon to Ice Lava.

I know you're excited to be right next to that Michigan Tech bench.

Back on the blue line, Luke Shipley and Tyler Miller and Luke Shipley had that five minute major penalty last night that could have hurt the Huskies big time, but boy, great job on the penalty kill for Michigan Tech.

That was a huge part of the win, I think, last night, Brent.

Yeah, it sure is.

Those five minutes really can build or kill momentum and Huskies stood up, stood up

to the task and kept the momentum in their favor, but those types of penalties can really hurt you, and if you don't perform well on that five men, actually you can deflate your momentum if you're on the offense, so good job by Tech.

Certainly want to avoid those if you can.

Those can be costly.

I think Bartoskevic, as you said, Phil and I were talking last night, Brent, that Bartoskevic being so good early in that game kind of threw off the Nanooks and maybe gripped the stick a little bit later on when they had some great chances.

Yeah, you get

thinking a little bit too much with the goal he's playing so well.

You think you've got to make a perfect shot.

And Barrow can have that impact on his opponent.
