Well, thank you very much and welcome, Husky Hockey fan.

We are coming to you from the John McGinnis student ice arena, sitting in the Bob Olson Media Center on Hall of Fame weekend.

Welcome to a big week in a Michigan Tech hockey as the Huskies host the Nanooks of Alaska.

Michigan Tech coming in with a three-in-one record.

including an overtime win last Friday night at St.

Cloud State University, followed by a loss on Saturday night.

The Huskies will take on the Nanooks who are 1-3.

They had a big win over a highly ranked Boston College team last weekend, but then lost to Union and again, coming in with a 1-3 record under head coach, Eric Largan, who is already, cannot believe it, in his ninth season as the head coach of the Nanooks.

These two teams split last weekend.

The Huskies had had the edge in this series with a 27-8-1 all-time advantage over the Nanooks.

Diddy back to 1990.

Tech is 14-5.

5-1 against Alaska here at the John McGillus Student Ice Arena.

And ever since, Alaska has become an independent program.

These two teams have played quite a bit.

In fact, this is the fifth season in a row that Anderson and Huskies will match up in Division 1 hockey.

Last season, up in Fairbanks, the non-conference series saw the Huskies win 3-1 on Friday night, but did not have a good game on Saturday night.

I remember that game well.

5-1 was the final.

And I know the Huskies left Alaska with a bitter taste in their mouth after that game.

What a weekend it is.

not only Michigan Tech hockey at home against Alaska, but also the Michigan Tech football team, who is nationally ranked, taking on Northern Michigan University.

Husky's coming out that giant win at home against Grand Valley State University.

Now this weekend they'll take on their arched rival, Northern Michigan.

That'll be a noon start tomorrow for the Miners Cup.

Husky's trying to hang on to that coveted trophy.

Our broadcast will start at 11 from Curly Stadium at the VIP tailgate party.

So make sure you're tuned on in as you're making your way to Curly Stadium.

Looks like it's gonna be a decent day tomorrow.

Little cool, perfect football weather.

They're in the 50s, but it's going to be nice and sunny.

At least that's what the forecast is saying right now.

Hall of Fame weekend, as we mentioned, some big time hockey players getting inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

Actually, as we speak, Colin Murphy, who played for the Husky back in 2001 to 2005.

Unbelievable career for Michigan Tech.

154 games, 152 points.

Program record two for the most assist by our

winger with 42 during the 0405 season and of course was a Hoby Baker finalist his senior year.

That was the year that he and Chris Conover both Hoby Baker finalists at the same time.

And of course Darcy Way.

We talked a lot about him this week.

Goal tender for the Huskies back from 78 to 82 and worked at Michigan Tech in a variety of roles.

He'll be inducted or is being inducted right now into the Sports Hall of Fame and Wayne Weller who played for the Huskies back in 64 through 67.

Of course a national champion

with the Huskies 1965 team and ranking 42nd in career points.

And yes, did have two goals in that 1965 national championship game.

So three big hockey inductees going into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame right now at the ceremony that's taking place down on campus.

Those three hockey players, former hockey players, along with the other inductees who are Andy Bonk for football, Lucy Sloik of basketball, Mike Horan of football,

of Nordic skiing and cross-country track and field and Scott Kieser of basketball and football lore along with Jason Marathon from basketball and Sarah Nash Hurley of volleyball all will be recognized on the ice tomorrow.

That tomorrow's game here at the John McGinnis Student Night Shredder which will start at 6.07.

Michigan Tech hosting Alaska in non-conference play.

These are the last non-conference games for Michigan Tech until the Great Lakes Invitational coming up in late December.

Earlier this week on the Michigan Tech Huskies Hockey Radio Show, we had a chance to chat with new Husky, Connor Roulette, who on the first weekend of the season against Minnesota got his very first goal as a Husky.

And Connor has really stepped in as expected to be an impact player right away.

We asked him to think back a couple of weeks ago when he scored that very first goal as a Husky.

it was like in front of the big crowd at the MEC.

Yeah, I mean, it's definitely huge.

Obviously, scoring in front of the home crowd is sweet.

You know, the home crowd that weekend was pretty awesome to see.

And although they were all there for Friday night, I think they were a little more excited for the next two games after being canceled the first night there.

So they brought their energy.

Yeah, I mean, it was just a great play by Millsy and, you know, just to get that kind of off your off the, you know, get it early and not have to kind of worry about, you know, getting in your head about not scoring or whatever.

So it was nice to get that early.

And like I said, it was a great pass by Millsy just to have that deception to pass it across.

And

I was just able to beat the goalie.

You're known as a goal scorer.

We've watched a lot of your highlights from over the years before you became a Husky.

At one time play, though, is something that's not easy to do.

even if you have a perfect pass.

How often have you practiced that and how big is that in your game?

Yeah, I mean, I mean, one-timers for me aren't really my specialty.

I don't really score much from the one-timer, but it's just one of those things that, you know, before or after practice, a lot of guys do.

It's just one of those things you work on, just trying to get the puck off as quick as you can, not stopping the puck and stick handling or whatever, kind of gives the goalie more time to get there.

So being able to shoot the puck quick is something that a lot of hockey players, you know, especially myself, that practice

It's a lot just to catch goalies off guard.

I think the better the goalies get, the more harder it is to score when you try to make that one extra move.

So being able to shoot the puck off quick was huge.

And yeah, for any hockey player that can score goals, I think being able to do that is a big thing for them.

You're four games into your NCAA career.

Obviously, we played two really good teams already.

What is the difference that you've noticed?

The biggest difference from this level to you sports and the other levels that you've played prior

becoming a Husky?

Yeah, I mean, it's definitely really fast.

You know, a lot of the, you know, last year, for sure, playing new sports, there was maybe a little bit more time with the puck.

And then, yeah, you play, you play against a great team every weekend.

There's no, there's no weekends where, you know, there's a team that's, that's not as good as the next team, you know, it's every team's there and every game's huge.

And I think that's what a lot of teams have in, you know, a lot of pride, a lot of school pride and a lot of teams with their fans and whatnot and having home crowds, home crowd, home, home, home ice advantage is a huge thing.

And

You know just yeah, I think it's just every every night every games huge and every team

brings in gives it their all every night You never know what you're going to get as far as line combinations as you go through the season But you had a chance to play with Gordo in this past week and talk about him a little bit is that leadership guy Yeah, well, I

mean obviously Gordo being another Manitoba and I was able to skate with him the last few summers so Even prior to prior to playing with each other on a line.

We were able to skate with each other in the summers and get to know each other so

You know, he's just a great player and great leader.

I mean, you look at him off the ice, the amount of work he puts in into his career and his hockey skills.

It's really big.

It shows on the ice.

And he's one of those smart players that he could play with anyone and make anyone better.

And yeah, he's just a great guy.

And he's

a good player to play with.

I think going 3-1 through the first four before the season, we would have taken that.

But a little bit disappointing on this past weekend, because I feel like maybe we think we could have got more on us

What did you feel was the difference in our play maybe this past weekend compared to the Minnesota weekend?

Well, I mean, like I said, you play against teams every weekend that are, you know, we both have the same, you know, goals leading into that weekend.

I think being on the road, getting a splits huge for us.

Obviously, Minnesota was a team that had a lot of skilled draft picks and a lot of guys that could make plays and play.

And then St.

Cloud was definitely a team that just had the speed and had, you know, they seemed like maybe they

just, I don't know, maybe maybe used to their ice, their ice was a little big there and, you know, I thought we played a great weekend and their goalie's made some big saves and I think just, you know, a couple more balances that go our way, I think that we go with that weekend 2-0.

I know you mean your talks to us since the St.

Cloud series.

I would imagine you pushed some of the guys to maybe be a little bit better this week.

That's for sure the message

every day.

It's a process.

You know we're looking for consistency and improvement.

We've got some areas of our game I think we can we can do a little bit better but should be a great

week in a hockey here at the Mac.

I love our fans and then obviously we have you know three players going in the former players going in the Hall of Fame so that's a big deal.

It really is a big deal.

Going back to some of the guys that you're hoping will step up a little bit.

I would imagine even with all of the experience some of our new Huskies have coming in here you know they're still

trying to figure out maybe their identity on this team?

For sure.

You know, I think we'll get Morgan Brady in the lineup here tonight.

He's looked really good in practice.

Big right shot, defenseman, shot down, physical.

He's looked really good in practice.

I still think there's some guys up front kind of finding their way, figuring out our system a little bit.

Guys like Geo Morneau, Tristan Delisle, and it's going to take a little bit of time, but they're

they're doing really well.

We saw how fast St.

Cloud was.

Can you compare it all, the differences, compare or contrast the style of play with Coach Larkin's team compared to what we saw last weekend?

Well, I think the Fairbanks is going to be more physical in your face.

I thought St.

Cloud had a tremendous amount of team speed on that hybrid sheet with that extra width on the rank.

Maybe for, you know, give us a little bit of some different challenges that you wouldn't see on a normal standard size rink.

So as you look at any other

changes in the lineup other than Brady at this point, coach?

We'll see.

We have one guy that's a little banged up, but it'll be kind of a game time decision.

Obviously can't share that with you, but we'll kind of go from there.

But I want to continue to get guys in, and I think the competition is healthy for our group.

What about face offs this week, coach?

Is that something that the centermen and really the whole team kind of worked a little bit on?

Yeah, we did a lot

of it.

We did a lot of live drops in

practice got wraps we worked on it Excuse me before and after practice with the centers as a group But it's it's not just falling on the center.

You're a five-man unit out there So we had a you know a half dozen or so, you know that we identified where we actually won the draw But we lost the line of scrimmage mentality and let let them get in there and then we actually had some pucks that We won those face offs and got possession of them where they

probably weren't marked, you know, depending on whether it's sport logic or, you know, the...

the somebody else doing it.

Sometimes they just go with wherever the puck goes on what side of the line of scrimmage you're on.

And it's not really a true metric.

But having said that, we have to be better in the draw and it's something that we're focused on.

The Huskies getting set to take on the Alaska Nanooks.

Three and one Michigan Tech taking on one and three Alaska.

The Nanooks have played a very difficult four games and they beat a very good team in Boston College last weekend.

They lost to Union the next day.

They've been down in the continental

United States for a while now fill in there that program is pretty used to these long trips and they'll be ready to go tonight against the Huskies Huskies need to come out with a better effort than they did last weekend at St.

Cloud.

Yeah for sure especially that Saturday night start you know that you mentioned they need to get better tonight this team is very good Alaska like you mentioned beat Boston College also lost in overtime to Boston University that

first series.

So yeah, it's a very good team and Michigan Tech is going to really have to come to play.

Huskies will have a couple of different, well, certainly a different player in the lineup here tonight than what was originally started.

We heard coach talk about somebody might not be ready to go and it looks like, well now they're, now I'm seeing some, yeah, Carson Bernie will be out tonight it looks like and we're waiting to find out if that's going to be then Carson

Morgan Brady factoring in as the seventh defenseman tonight.

If indeed it is as coach said during the pregame much much earlier today that was done back at nine o'clock this morning.

It will be his first game.

And of course played at Green Bay the U.S.H.L.

for the gamblers and you know pretty big kid and from what I understand and from what we watched kind of a stay at home defenseman kind of a shut them down kind of guy.

Yeah, for sure.

There's a lot of fun to watch in their inner squad game.

Big kid 6-3.

He's played some really heavy minutes at Green Bay.

It's a testament to the defense of Michigan Tech, though, that a kid of his size and of his impact has not been able to get in the lineup yet, because the top six have been playing so strong.

And you heard Coach

McCulloch talk about how he wants to get these guys a chance to play.

It's difficult to do when you've got so many

guys that are competing for the same positions that are doing well out there.

But Michigan Tech saw some holes in some gaps, I guess, last weekend that they want to shore up.

And everybody's going to have to play a little bit better if they're going to come out with a couple of wins against this very good Alaska team.
