Huskies
win!
Here we are another Thursday, so it's another This Week in Huskies Athletics here on Mixed 93 and the U-Pur.
I end your home same series, both recap and let you know what's coming up.
The number 12 ranked hockey team split its first road weekend of the season at St.
Claude State.
They won an overtime match three to two on Friday and fell five to three Saturday.
They returned home this weekend and host Alaska on Friday at 7 0 7 and Saturday at 6 0 7 at the John McGinnis Stoen Ice Arena.
Number 19 ranked football team took down number six Grand Valley State 41 to 35 in an overtime match on Saturday at Curly Stadium.
They are now two
nothing in the Gliac and remained here at home on Saturday hosting Northern Michigan for their annual Miners Cup game at Curly Stadium.
Kickoff is set for noon.
Husky's soccer team went unbeaten in their home weekend with a 2-0 victory over Roosevelt on Friday and a 1-1 tie with Purdue Northwest on Sunday.
The team will now travel to Northern Michigan on Sunday for their only game of the week and the volleyball team sadly dropped a pair of Gliac matches on the road by 3-0 at Parkside on Friday and 3-2 at Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
This puts them at 5 and 5 in the GLIAC.
They'll now travel back to Hammond for their 18th annual Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament, where the Huskies will play three non-conference matches.
So again, lots of exciting matchups here this weekend.
Hockey and football are the big ones for this week.
If you want to go see them in person, go to BuyHuskiesTickets.com and reserve yours today.
Or listen to them live on the radio on Mixed93.5 FM.
Now let's move on over to the real meat of the show.
The Coach Press Conference is starting off with Michigan Tech football coach Dan Metlack.
Coach Dan Metlack was first asked if it's sunk in yet that they knocked off Grand Valley State.
Thought our guys were capable of it.
Executed the plan.
I thought our guys played hard.
It was a great atmosphere.
And yeah, I don't think anybody in our locker room was shocked.
I know everybody else was, but did exactly what we thought we could do.
And took care of the football, kept everything in front of us for the most part.
Of course, when you go back and watch the film, there's things on both sides of the ball, regardless of the win or loss that we thought we could have done better.
left some things out there offensively in some critical situations.
You know, defensively got creased on that one fourth down that the Q went 50 on and made plays when we needed to in all three phases.
And that was a big thing.
I felt like we took advantage of our scoring opportunities for five for five in the red zone.
And obviously the overtime, you know, all three phases showed up at that point, you know, with the botch snap and the guys taking care of it on the field goal and defense showing up on that first series.
And of course, that first play from the offense to get it down inside.
and then we finished it off from there.
So probably the way the guys played, but nobody's surprised in our locker room.
He then asked about this Saturday's opponent, Northern Michigan, and what this weekend's game means for this school.
It's a priority here every single year.
I mean, we talk about it at length in camp.
It's talked about in the off season.
This week is different.
I know a lot of people want to talk about it every single weekend is the same so on.
We don't take it that way.
you know, anytime the cats are in town or we're down there, our mentality is completely different.
You know, that goes back to not only the pride that all of our lums have in this place and what that series has meant over the years, but it's one we don't take for granted.
We look forward to this week every single year and, you know, you go win a big game like you did at GV.
We gave them the 24 hours to celebrate and then it's, we're on to the next.
It just happens to be that Northern's next, so it's a little bit easier to get over that ultimate high.
of what we had last Saturday.
No one who's coming in here this weekend and our guys are looking forward to it.
With it being Hall of Fame weekend, the coaches asked what he wants the team to learn from these former players.
Yeah, I mean, I think you take everything from it.
You know, you look at the history of Michigan Tech football, you know, there's obviously some more distinguished, if you will.
traditions at other schools in our league in terms of wins and losses and so on so forth.
You know, it's not like we've won a million national championships here, conference championships and so on, but the pride that the guys have in being part of this program, I lived it as a player.
I have been coaching here since 2017 and just being back in the building.
It doesn't matter what year it is, what the records are, who's playing, who's coaching.
Anytime it's tech in Northern, it's just a different atmosphere for sure in our locker room and our guys approach it that way.
So, you know, taking care of business against that team.
Bonk and some of the others are going to be back this weekend.
You know, it's going to be just like walking back in the locker room for those guys, especially with that team coming across the other sidelines.
So I'm looking forward to it.
It's going to be intense and should be a good crowd.
The atmosphere should be good.
And, you know, like I said, our guys look forward to it every single year.
Again, that was Coach Dan Metlack of the Football Huskies at his press conference at Michigan Tech this week.
They are again playing Northern Michigan University here at home at Curly Stadium.
Go to buy huskies tickets dot com to get yours or if you can't make it.
The broadcast is on mix 93.5 FM with an extended pre game with the Michigan Tech tailgate show sponsored by range bank and Josh Hila-tila will be making the call.
Next up we have tech volleyball coach Cindy Pindrell.
First she gives her thoughts on a rather rough weekend for the team.
Not our best weekend.
I didn't think that we were mentally tough enough to.
really pull out some of the wins.
Um, I felt like we weren't really as prepared as we should have been going into arguably two places that are very notoriously hard to play.
Um, so yeah, disappointing.
I don't think anybody on the team is happy with the way that we played, um, but we had a very frank conversation in our team meeting yesterday about just that.
Um, and then looking ahead to the future as to like what goals that we have and what goals are still available on the table as far as our like longterm season goals and things like that.
So there's still a lot of, uh, things that can happen and there's still a lot of goals to be had.
So, you know, we're not going to let one weekend define us, but what really is going to matter is how we rebound from this.
I'm hopeful because we've shown time and time again over the course of the season that we can rebound from setbacks.
And, you know, our nine to nine record overall is deceiving in the sense that seven of those nine losses are in five.
So it proves that we're battling and, you know, we have the ability to be right there with any team.
So it's really on us to decide when we want to be
tough.
And what can change?
Um, yeah, I think it's going to the outcome too quickly.
Um, you know, we, our record isn't great in five.
And so I think we just jumped to the conclusion very quickly that we don't have an opportunity instead of playing each touch, each point, each opportunity in and of itself, like not trying to jump ahead a point, trying to not be dragged down by the previous point or whatever it is.
So yes, momentum and runs happen all the time in our sports.
That's part of it.
Um, but I feel like we're letting things happen to us instead of us happening.
If that makes sense.
I don't know.
That's not a great quote, but like, I don't know.
I just feel like we need to be more in control of our controllables and focus on the task immediately at hand with some more blinders on, um, instead of like, Oh, well, what happens if we don't do this or this or that?
And I know I'm being critical, um, but it really is a turning point part of the season.
This is the part of the season where the cream rises and everything else falls to the bottom.
So, you know, we really need to choose up and we really need to choose to dial in on all the little things and, you know, continue to want to.
and enjoy the learning process and enjoy the battle instead of like, oh, you know, the end of season is near, you know, oh, well, I don't think we're like that as a group, but we just need to tap into more of that competitive spirit that we have.
Lastly, the coach was asked about what she knows about this weekend's opponents.
We're just getting into the scouting for both of our opponents.
So we have University of Findlay.
I have not personally played them and probably like nine years, I think I've only played them once and it was at the crossover a long time ago, but I think some of our seniors played them a couple of years ago.
I think they won.
I would have to go back and look.
But anyway, two completely different teams at the time.
So we don't have a ton of matchups against Finley.
I believe they used to be in the conference many years ago, but yeah, it's been a long time since we've played Finley.
They have quite a few undersized outside hitters, all about five, eight, five, nine-ish, but they jump really well and they're very crafty and they're very strong, very disciplined defensive team from what I've seen on film so far.
So we definitely have our work cut out for us from them.
And then with UMSL, Missouri, St.
Louis,
We played them in our first match last year at the McHenry tournament.
Very talented team.
They seem to reload every single year.
They're always in the NCAA tournament.
They're very well coached.
They have a lot of high flyers.
They're right side kind of tore us apart last year.
So, you know, we're going to have to be focusing a lot on our block in that matchup.
But ultimately, ultimately, it comes down to our attitude, our effort, our underdog mentality and whether we're tapping into that or not.
So, you know, we can scout all we want, but we really need to show up in the sense of like putting our best selves forward.
Again, Michigan Tech.
We're going to take a quick break.
You're going to be hearing from Michigan Tech hockey coach Bill McColt as well as soccer coach Melissa Kuhar.
This weekend Huskies athletics is powered by Michigan Tech Huskies.com.

Where is it?
The referee not calling it.
They said it went in.
The Huskies said it went in.
Nothing from the official yet.
Trenbecky says yes.
It is a goal.
Huskies win it in overtime.
2-51 left to go in the extra period.
Michigan Tech completes the comeback.
down two to nothing.
Win at three to two here at the National Hockey Center.
Welcome back to this week in Huskies Athletics here on Mixed 93 in Wimple.
I am your host Sam Sears.
The number 12 ranked hockey team split its road weekend three to two Friday, five to three Saturday.
In his press conference this week, Michigan Tech hockey coach Bill McColt had pletied the say on the games against St.
Claude State last weekend.
Split on the road, it's okay.
It's hard to, hard to sweep in college hockey.
I liked a lot of things about our game, some areas where we can improve, you know, we kind of house cleaning items, you know, we got a vacuum in the carpet, dust a little bit, and it was a short week, you know, and also the travel, no excuses, not anything like that, but it was a shorter week.
I didn't feel like we had quite as much juice as...
I would have liked, but having said that, we were in the third period on Saturday night with an opportunity to sweep an opponent.
So I like that part of it.
Had a couple of mistakes that cost us, had a chance to...
with the goalie pulled to a great A and another one and it was a bobble pock.
But I think it's good for our team to have some adversity.
We didn't like the results.
We're going to learn from it.
We're going to get better.
We certainly aren't playing the blame game or feeling sorry for ourselves.
But there's, for lack of a better term, a little bit of a, sometimes we have a great weekend.
a hangover or you get away from, you know, our identity, what we need to do and college hockey is super hard.
And hats off to them.
I thought they played played well and pushed us.
And he goes on to talk about Tate and Trent Becky.
Some players shoot to shoot and some players shoot to score.
He loves to score.
He's got that hunger.
He's got the desire.
He's got a knack.
I think even Saturday, if you asked him, he had some great looks Saturday.
We needed one of those to go.
But he's got a tremendous shot.
He's got a gift.
He's got a nose for it.
He's a cookie monster.
Reed picks up a goal.
How nice is it to see him chipping in offensively?
It was great and Gio Morneau made an unbelievable play.
You know, I think one of the things we identified with the goalie and his style was how over aggressive he was, but it was a great play by G. I think Reid Andreessen is just such a smart hockey player.
He's headsy.
He's cerebral.
He thinks the game.
Um, he's got a good head on his shoulder.
Um, yeah, it's good to, good to see him get on, on board.
He's, he's got a knack.
He makes good decisions out there.
Bill McCuld is then asked if losing helps to teach the team and he also goes over what needs to improve.
It's fun to teach when you win and that's ultimately what you would love to do.
Uh, but it.
You know, like our face-offs, I've got to get better as a group.
And it's not just the center, it's a five-man unit.
There's different areas of our game.
I didn't like our puck management.
I'll be transparent.
We are a really disciplined club.
We took some stupid penalties.
You know, let's be honest.
And we're not going to single out or blame, but...
We have to be better in that department.
It expands a tremendous amount of energy and momentum when we have to kill penalties or we negate a power play.
And there were some tough calls on Saturday night.
I'm looking back at it and you're going to have those.
I thought the officials did a great job this weekend but it's just one of those games where we didn't get much on the power play and I thought our special teams was much better on Saturday versus Friday but we have to shore that up and we've addressed it.
And
lastly, he talks about this weekend's opponent, Alaska.
This weekend's going to be races, battles, intensity.
They're going to compete.
They're a well coached team.
They've come off, they beat Boston College.
They're the tough one against Union.
But we know that...
We've got to discourage their will, their want, and you know, it's going to be hard, it's going to be difficult, and it's going to be, we're going to have to play discipline, we're going to have to play to our brand, play to our identity, and win races and battles all night long and all weekend long to have success.
With this being that last non-con before you hit conference, what can Alaska teach you?
And that Minnesota and St.
Cloud might have been a little bit different.
Well, they're in our way.
I mean, for where we're going, what our aspirations are, what we're fighting for, we know as a group the implications of non-conference, the MPI, it's everything and it's just about Friday and they're standing in our way and it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter about the team we're playing.
It matters about what we're going to do.
We've got to play disciplined.
We've got to play connected.
We've got to play fast.
We've got to be hard.
And we have to play 60 minutes.
So that's our mindset.
And flush last weekend or two weeks.
It doesn't matter.
Don't care.
Could say some other things would probably get me in trouble.
It's all about Friday night.
And that was the coach of the Hockey Huskies, Bill McCulloch at his press conference.
Two games this Friday and Saturday for the Hockey Huskies against Alaska.
7-07 Friday, 6-0.
And of course, we'll broadcast both matchups right here on Mix 93 6 30 pregame Friday 5 30 pregame Saturday.
And if you want to go see him in person, go to buy huskies tickets dot com.
And lastly, let's go to the press conference for Michigan Tech's soccer coach, Melissa Kuhar, whose team saw success over the weekend to start.
Coach Kuhar was asked about the weekend and about the team's first win of the season.
Yeah, for sure.
It was it was a weekend right undefeated weekend.
Would have liked to get a win out of Sunday's game, but.
I'll take a tie.
Our girls after the game said they're like, man, we scored more goals than we gave up.
And I was like, yeah, it's a good feeling, right?
But no, I mean, Fridays.
Friday's game was was awesome.
That's the team that we've kind of been trying to to find this whole season.
Put some goals in the back of the net one, you know, right before half, which was awesome.
And then, you know, Sunday did kind of the same, but didn't play our best.
But we were capable of getting a result even when we don't play our best and kind of the girls realize that.
So now it's just we got to keep grinding and keep going.
But no, it was a good weekend.
A lot of confidence was built this weekend.
She was that ass.
What she felt was different about the team this time around.
Yeah, I think.
it was just there's a different energy.
I mean, we've had we had conversations leading into the weekend of like, hey, it's we got to we got to do it.
We got to do it now.
We're running out of time to produce some wins.
So there was just kind of that different confidence to it.
And then, you know, when we scored, it was just I said, the floodgates are going to start opening, we're going to start getting better chances.
That's what happened.
So I think it was just the girls kind of the belief and the kind of like they were over the losing, right?
It hit a point where they're like, they were done with this and that shift of attitude.
who kind of really helped us and propelled us this weekend.
Lastly, she was asked how she's going to bottle this momentum and carry it over to this weekend's match at Marquette.
Yeah, I mean, we, that's what I kept telling him this weekend actually, right?
Like bottle it, bottle the energy, bottle the, the frustration from the past, like bottle it all up.
And then when that whistle blows, let it explode, right?
And we did that Friday, we did that, you know, on Sunday as well.
So now it's just keeping that, keeping that momentum.
Our girls are not happy about how the game here against Northern went.
Reality is 38 seconds was the difference between us being in that game and then giving up those two quick goals in the first half.
And so there's some rage there.
Our teams, you know, kind of upset, kind of annoyed.
They want that revenge.
And so I think, you know, why not go to Marquette and kind of, you know, quote unquote get the upset there on their own home field.
We did it last year.
Why can't we do it again?
And so yeah, they're excited for it.
I think the energy is going to be pretty high.
It always is, always is for the Northern game.
And I think, you know,
even more now with the momentum we have coming off this weekend.
It's going to be a big
one.
Once again, before we wrap up the show, to go over text schedule this weekend one last time, the full schedule, Cross Country is at Bradley Pink Classic at 12.45.
Boy, while we'll have their first day at the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hanvan, Indiana, then Hockey will wrap up Friday, taking on Alaska at home at 7.07 at the McKinney-Stune Serena.
Broadcast will be on Mix 93.
Saturday, Volleyball is again at Midwestern Regional Crossover.
Football has Northern Michigan here at home at Curly Stadium.
Stir to get it known.

Oh boy.
Well, just so you know, I was able to dabble through the Lazy River a few nights ago in Green Bay.
I was looking for you at the Tundra.
I didn't see you floating around in there.
No, I was floating closer to the Fox River, spending the day with my steps on and his wife, watching both the Packers and the Lions come out on top.
It was a beautiful thing.
Wow.
It was an interesting weekend of football.
We'll get that in a few seconds.
Baseball, Wheat Trap, it's a series underway right now.
thick of it.
One quick thing about injuries in baseball, Lou, in any sport.
So hey, Otani, who I said all along, never should have won the MVP outstanding baseball player, just plays one way.
Your best ability in sports is availability.
He hasn't done nothing since the end of August.
He tells the manager that he's ready to play, and they're too afraid to bench him.
What are your thoughts on these athletes making decisions when or when not to play?
When everyone knows they're not even close to healthy, and I get 50, 60% is better than
whatever.
I mean, that's getting really old.
Why even have managers anymore?
I don't know.
You think about, you know, it's just like what they're in judge and, uh, right?
Uh, and, and Boone, you know, when the Yankees were playing, you, you wonder who's running the organization and he can even go back to last year, the way the Tigers use Derek Scoobal in that series against Seattle.
I mean, if you're a bulldog and you're as tough as you say you are, you don't pull yourself out or you agree to be pulled after 99 pitches and that deciding game five is, you know, it's like you and I have said a thousand times, Jimmy.
It's just a.
new era that we live in and it's
it's all a player-controlled atmosphere now
in
all the professional sport.
How much fan-driven is it as well?
I mean, Aaron Judge, I remember a gentleman I did this show with for many years.
We got many heated arguments.
I said, Judge, he can't stay healthy.
Those big baseball players, tall, lengthy, powerful, they put so much torque on their upper and lower body and work every year with Aaron Judge.
And I get how great these players are, but let's not make them the next coming to Babe Ruth, and I get totally...
o'conny an outstanding player when when he's upright but to see well he's watching the other day someone said the best baseball player ever and these are well acclaimed the analyst on mainly baseball network are you kidding me
but i know it's such a recency bias with the way it's handled
now and
now nobody nobody takes into account what the but what the ballplayers were like even back in the seventies you know in the eighties
even
further back you know and i totally agree now will they be in the hall of fame sure they were well because of the jerseys that they
I mean, Aaron Judge.
which is he had a good stretch for about four years.
And you're right, and it's taken it all.
I mean, the way he swings the bat, and he plays with reckless abandon when he's in there, and Shohei, he's had a good three-year run with the Dodgers, but that'll get him into the Hall of Fame because he's one MVP, and the Dodgers have won World Series.
I agree with you on that.
I cannot put him on an all-time great level.
I'm sorry, I can't.
I'll go back to Otani.
MVP.
It was a last year or two years.
Who was that player for the match?
I thought you'd have won it.
Who am I thinking of?
He played every day a consistent player.
Every
day.
Every day.
Yeah, I can't remember either who it
was.
I
agree.
Otani would just be a D8.
And I get the numbers.
They're up there on Worldly.
But isn't this all based on your all-around game, not just one phase of it?
But again, like you said, it's all based on popularity now, isn't it, for the most part?
Well, it is.
And you know, it's just like the Hall of Fame Bowl.
We've talked
about it.
I mean, it's, you know, you can't take these guys serious anymore because, you know, they'll say, well, you know what?
He's already in.
I'm going to give my vote to somebody else potentially that I've watched that, you know, his borderline to maybe get him in.
And I just, so it lacked credibility to me.
It's just a popularity contest.
Well, switching gears, college football, big game this weekend, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan had the weekend off again.
I said when the season started, I had them four or five, maybe six wins at the most.
in about a minute or so what's your quick assessment of college football in general as we are getting into the middle of the schedule here
well last weekend was kind of crazy i thought you know i enjoyed it uh... i really enjoyed laying kiffin get beat i thought that was priceless and
the main thing
you know how do you not call interference on that path in the end zone in the alabama georgia game uh... that that one kind of mystified me um... and coming up this weekend you know i think well how state going to win i just think they're much better team than indiana and uh...
I heard a tidbit on Wednesday, Jimmy, and I want to ask you something.
I want to ask you something.
This is about Michigan State.
When was the last time Northwestern went into East Lansing and was a nine and a half point favorite?
Can you ever remember that?
God, I can guess it before my time, but no,
I mean, Northwestern.
I know
it's just... They had some good teams a few years ago.
They're a nine and a half point favorite this weekend.
Nine and a half point favorite.
I heard that on the local show on Wednesday, and I almost
I'm like, and I had to think about it.
I mean, and you know, Michigan is, what did I see?
They're a six and a half point favorite against Penn State.
That's almost an indictment of how far down Penn State is following.
After I thought they were going to, I had said, Jim, that they were going to be a playoff team this year because they had a cupcake schedule that would elevate them.
Well, not so fast.
My friend is Lee Corso would say.
No, and I.
at Penn State, I think I told you and maybe some believe in that, one of my dark horses overall in college football.
Yeah.
That's been a complete mess of getting Iowa State coaching some of his players.
They've totally imploded.
And the big 10 basically, you got Ohio State and Indiana, and I agree 100%.
I think Ohio State's going to beat Indiana.
Indiana's a good team, but man, a lot of games this year, they barely pulled it out.
all those and that a excellent coach but i i think ohio state on a little bend editor here
all there's no question they're they remember what happened last year that
big-time
championship game especially in well boy when you got jeremiah smith who in my opinion is the heisman winner right now it's going to take a lot for him to get knocked off and one team that i'm kind of rooting for i'd love to see you get the playoffs i don't know how well they will do but
I'd love to see Iowa sneak in somehow.
I
love how they play the game.
I think they may have gotten a break with UCLA.
Their quarterback out for the year now.
That's a tough break for them.
They've been a kind of a cool story, but that's what I'm kind of rooting for because our teams here in Michigan, they're not going anywhere.
I'll take a run with Hayden Frye.
gosh, now I've forgotten who the coach is already.
You're Kirk Barrett.
I'll take a role with him going into the, hopefully get a playoff bird.
I love Barrett.
I always liked him.
I was, once they get in, I hope they get into it.
That's a clean program.
But again, a lot of offense is just gonna... Before the NFL, about a minute or so the other night, Red Wings playing, by the way, to bring to the side for a seven-year deal.
i'm watching these games i feel sad for the redling found there's more empty seats there are people in seats when are they going to get uh... uh... grip on this thing it's just bearing downwards day by day
what you know and they it's funny that i watched that game uh... a good portion of it i missed the second period but i would that first period they got so terribly all played and i'm we're able to hang in there that tells you a little bit about new jersey uh... and you know it
watching that game it it was like watching uh... a college exhibition game there there there had to have been eight thousand eight to ten thousand empty seats in
there and
you know i don't know i mean it's a good sign that they signed a bracket i i think that's a step in the right direction but they need more and with uh... advincen supposedly now back in the state but that means he wants to train here that we gotta get him signed and
I just don't see a scenario where Larkin stays with the team the whole year.
I honestly think he'll be moved by the deadline.
There's just such a weird vibe there, Jim, in Detroit tonight, and it's not a good weird.
It's rock to watch.
NFL will probably be a bigger story coming out last weekend at Fiasco.
With the Washington commanders, I mean, Parsons comes out yesterday saying Daniels is going to cost Quinter's drop.
And I got to think, heads will roll.
I could say, stay tuned, come into a theater near you.
But how is that for that whole franchise?
Not one coach, not one player in that field knew what to do.
And Daniels has a grin on his face after the game.
I've said it when he came in.
He's not going to make it.
They're too frail.
RG3.
I read my case.
But how embarrassing was that move?
And I didn't realize how bad it was to you text me, giving me the raspberries over something.
I'd give you the raspberries to poke.
But how bad of optics is this?
Not only for Washington, but for football in general.
It was
embarrassing.
You know, it makes you wonder.
Yeah, you've got...
eighteen assistant coaches out there on the field you know one of them got to be screaming the ball and it is something that they practice that you know two-minute offense last-minute offense during the week i i just you know i don't get it you see it more and more jim it reminded me of one detroit played chicago the year before ben johnson got there that thanksgiving game where they had time out and they didn't use them and detroit not get out
you know at the end of the game by that just that's all that rings up there with jim schwarke throwing the challenge play for the lion when he didn't have any left i mean what the hell oh my gosh yeah i think he's i think he's dead man walking i for the longest time said erin glenn was going to be the first one fired i think old dan quinn might uh... he might be the first one out the door in the nfl this year
and again
the way he presents himself, the baseball hat backwards, I mean, he's a defensive coordinator, okay, no more no less.
And they struck lightning in a bottle two years ago and they got the NFC championship game.
Every
horseshoe God created, they pulled out of the back end.
They got a lion team who was decimated by injury in the playoffs, but that was, we all knew that was a one-year miracle, but since then they've been beaten.
and it's embarrassing and again i'm surprised can you imagine if uh... one of your time owners like a george howell sir i go on and on uh... uh... with the rooney family back in the day uh... the hunt family and uh... canada city after that game like that those owners want to let that coach back in the plane going back home or cook his keys away when he's going home from the stadium
and that's not acceptable and then years ago i think i'm still baffle on that has been done yet
hi
uh... yeah
uh... everything you said is a hundred percent spot-on i mean he didn't make these kind of mistakes twenty years ago thirty years
ago
i'm sorry i i don't know what what the deal is with it and you know it's a baffling because like you said they've got all the technology they're on you know the headsets you've got the replay that you know all this stuff
and you you you go over that stuff in practice i mean even at the high school level these these coaches they spend they spend at least a half hour a week on the two-minute drill even in high school and they don't make the uh... you don't see these mistakes in high school i just don't get it
and we both a lot of high school games uh... yeah it's just a fun of metals and uh... you can go uh... with the eagles this weekend as well
serrani and i think with this year and i again i feel bad for her because what he's got a different coordinator in a lot of losing coordinators every really help it serrani i mean uh... that wasn't as bad but it was in the same uh... same a chapter i think what he did against jackson bill there with eight eight eleven seconds left or something i turn that game off and i felt healthy had in the back pocket
you know we were driving and listening to it on the radio on sunday and i it was telling my brother said
They can't do that.
I thought they did the right thing by not kicking it in the end zone because if you kick it in the end zone, they get it at the 35.
All you got to do now with these kickers, you throw a 20 yard pass and they can kick a 60 yard field goal.
and if you don't have a special teams unit that can't tackle a guy even to the forty that way they've got two seconds left all they've got is a hail mary i think it was the right call as far as kicking it in play but when you can't cover a team especially the way it's set up now
oh my
lord uh... yeah that seriani another one i think i think he might end up he may end up polishing his resume at the end of the year you'll make it through the year but i think you could
see a
whole
will still change their next year
speaking of kickers will be for you go on one of the al-qaim nickname kickers the picker kicker but i think that's whatever the name is from the ramp you know they released him but but i think twosday twosday morning yeah at the end of the field going to game winning field going over time he missed it i'm going to miss the name will but picker all kicker i'm i
know i know it's like that we might be
reminded jen kowski that the old kicker from the from the raiders back in the day died
You know the crazy thing Jim is you know the Rams who were ordained as the Super Bowl champs their one play away from being one in four with that Eagles fiasco, you know where they end up winning that game and They got to get there.
You know what the group here real fast or they're gonna be you know, they're not out of it But they're three games behind San Francisco in that division after five weeks.
It's insane
while we were up against it give our listeners your podcast information will let you go until we get back in a few weeks all right

Brian Hill joins us WRCO sports as we talk volleyball and coach a yet senior night on Tuesday night.
Maybe you could talk a little bit about your seniors for us.
Yeah, of course.
We have eight seniors.
They're a really super group.
They've dedicated a ton of time.
You know, I'm really lucky.
I have a strong senior leader in our center, Josie Mahoney.
She has really grown over the last four years and become a true quarterback and a true leader of our team.
Of course, we have Ella Myers, who has been a four-year varsity starter, and she has grown tremendously in the four years and is really the strength on our team.
I mean, without her, we would be a very different team.
My backcourt in Kylie Smith and Braylon Taft, they do a great job back there, really running the back as defensive specialists.
Hannah Birchfield has really come along and grown this year and become a great right-side blocker for us.
Paige Stafford, our outside hitter has done a great job despite being a little bit vertically challenged.
She does a great job on the outside for us and has worked really hard to be as good as she is.
She has a lot of tools in her tool belt.
Unfortunately, Kenley Straca was injured most of the season, so she has not played a lot for us.
And Mackenzie,
Weaver, our last senior.
She is a backup DS for us.
She got a little bit of time last night and she's just a great role model and a great positive kid on our team, even though she doesn't get a whole lot of time.
I'm really proud of these seniors and the way they have grown the culture of our program and just been really good leaders this year.

River Valley Coach Mariah Hill is our guest.
Mariah, with this match with Plattville, does it seem like a playoff match?
Absolutely.
It's going to be a playoff game.
You know, since we played Plattville on the 24th of September, we haven't lost a match.
And Platteville is a strong team and we got to be playing at our highest level tomorrow night to give them a run.
And I think if we play our cards right, we got a really good chance against them.
So what makes Platteville a tough team to face?
You know, their experience like us, they've got a strong group of kids that have been playing together a long time too.
Their setter is really strong.
She moves the ball around well.
She's hard to read.
Their middle hitter guy is very strong and they've got two outside hitters that are hard to stop.
I mean, they're a solid team.
Their defense is strong.
They're really scrappy and they're just a fun team to play against.
Well, as you described them, I kind of think about River Valley as well.
They're a little bit like you guys aren't they?
Yeah, I think we're very evenly matched, especially now down the road that we've gotten a little more comfortable in our starting lineup.
We've tweaked some things.
And we've grown and we're playing really well right now.
They're a great team too.
We both have a lot of experience.
Their coach Denise is a great coach.
I really like her a lot.
She has a great coaching style.
So it's just going to be a great matchup.
Yeah, good atmosphere.
And again, you control your destiny.
If you win, you get a share of the title, right?
Yep, absolutely.
We are, you know, hoping to control our destiny.
Like you said, if we can seek out a win here, then yeah, we share the conference with them and
We would love to have an opportunity to share with them.
They're a great team.
We'd be happy to share with them.
Well, you want to be playing your your best volleyball and you don't want to peek too early.
Do you feel this team is is playing its best right now?
Yeah, we're definitely playing some great volleyball right now and I think we definitely have more to show.
I don't think we're done peeking yet at all.
I think we're still growing.
We've got a lot of things that we're going to work on here in the next week before we get into playoffs and
We're just really playing some high-level volleyball right now, and we're really excited to get into the playoffs.
This year in the conference, how would you assess the talent level in the Southwest Conference?
You know, our conference is always strong.
Richland Center always comes to play.
They grow throughout the year.
Dodgeville has definitely gotten better this season.
And, you know, we have Platteville in our conference too, so it's tough.
When I look at us two, we're a really strong team too.
So we always have a tough conference.
It's fun to play.
the atmospheres are always exciting and it's fun to have great teams in your conference to make you better.
Will Plattville be in a higher division come tournament time?
They are.
They go up to division two so we will not see them again after tomorrow night and we just wish them the best of luck as they go through their tournament run too.
Sounds good.
Good luck as you get ready for the big match on Thursday.
Thank you.

From
River Valley High School, hello everyone, welcome to tonight's matchup between River Valley and the Platteville.
River Valley coming in with a 27 and 5 overall record.
They are 8 and 1 in the Southwest Conference.
Platteville is 27 and 3.
They are 9 and 0 during the Southwest Conference season with 1 to go tonight.
If they win it, they go undefeated and win it outright with a loss so the teams would share and that's what River Valley is working toward here tonight.
JV Action, it was Platteville getting the victory three sets to none.
Last time they played was on September 22nd and Platteville scored the sweep with River Valley scoring 17, 17 and 20 points.
So they all were fairly close as they went on, but Platteville did score the sweep at Platteville High School and they're hoping to change that here tonight.
River Valley hoping to
get it done against their long-time conference rivals.
It's a good one to have on the air for you.
We appreciate it.
This thing will be back with more in a moment from River Valley High School at Southwest Conference Championship Volleyball from WRCO Sports.

Thank
you for joining us tonight on WRC Radio as we prepare for the evening match for Platteville.
They have not lost since a 2-1 defeat by the hands of Madison Edgewood that was back on September 19th in a tournament.
So they've been on quite a roll and they have one tournament this weekend at Wisconsin Heights before the D2 regional coming up on Tuesday.
Right now, we get set for tonight's National Anthem from River Valley High School.
Not quite National Anthem time.
Yeah, it sounds like having little technical difficulties here tonight.
There we are.

Starting lineups for tonight's match brought to you by L&M Salvage.
These starters ready to scrap for a win.
Starting for Plattenville.
Familiar starting lineup, including number four, Soraya Stone, a junior.
Number seven, Quinn Temperley, a junior.
Number 14, Malia Temperley, a sophomore.
Number 20, Rhianna Dye, a senior, bearing number 22, Avery Richard, and the Laverne player is Makayla Schnaring, who is a senior.
Starting for the River Valley Black Oaks tonight, number four, Paige Stafford.
Number eight, Braylon Taps.
Also number 11, Isabella DeVinney, for the Black Oaks.
two seniors and a junior to Vinnie the junior and also tonight number 13 senior setter Josie Mahoney number 16 Ella Myers who is a senior and number 22 senior Kylie Smith among the starters for River Valley so it'll be Stafford on the left side Myers in the middle taps in the back rows that offensive specialist Josie Mahoney in the middle back rows is setter and Bella Vinnie the liberal player one other
No, it appears that Carly Birchfield will be starting tonight for River Valley number 14 in that right spot.
So for Pladville on the other side, outside hitters are Avery Richard and Soraya Stone and then Quinn Temperley on the left side.
Rayana Dye starts in the middle, Mia Hoosier and Michaela Schnering in the back row and the starting serving looks like Quinn Temperley in that position.
So that's how it goes for starters tonight courtesy of L&M salvage from the Rockwell Automation raised do-it-best center sports desk high school volleyball tonight River Valley in the left court and For Platteville in the right court Platteville wearing the dark uniforms with a white lettering and River Valley with a home white and black lettering
Kind of always a chess match when these two teams play and again the last time, absolute last time they'll play this year because both teams going their separate ways in the tournament.
Flatville rated in division two tenth overall, River Valley rated eight in division three.
Here comes the first serve of the ball game.
Hope you enjoy it tonight.
Here comes the approach and the line drive serve near side Doug there by Smith.
Back to the middle, Birchfield drives it down!
On the assist from Mahoney, and River Valley goes up one to nothing.
Carly Birchfield getting the kill.
Back to serve for River Valley is Beleta Vinny, number 11 in the black uniform.
That is the Libero uniform.
Left-handed serve, floats right down the middle.
Platteville plays it.
Here's a quick set for Dye.
She takes it, is blocked by River Valley.
Dye pumps it back up.
to the left side and then goes left hand and drives it over the far side.
Stafford gets the dig and Myers gets the kill off the assist from Josie Mahoney.
And the Black Oaks go up.
Two to nothing.
Good start here for River Valley.
Their home court tonight.
Serving for the Black Oaks will be Bella DeVinney.
DeVinney moves to the back row.
Comes up and here comes the serve down the middle.
Gonna be fielded by Platteville.
Quick set in the middle.
There's Dye.
She gets it home.
Driving it right down the line in front of the River Valley back row and Platteville is down the board.
It is two to one.
For Rihanna Dye, that is a strong solid kill.
Malia temporarily moves all the way to the near side and here's the serve.
Doug Bear by Myers, set by Mahoney right back to Ellen.
Her shot is gonna be blocked by Platteville and it goes out of bounds.
So the ill-fated block for Platteville puts it back in the hands.
River Valley.
Luke Thatcher chasing the ball down tonight.
Luke, good job.
And River Valley will serve again.
Josie Mahoney steps up.
Here is the serve.
Fielded by Stone and it goes counting into the stands and the Black Box lead it 4-1 here in the opener.

River Valley will close out its regular season in football coming up on Friday night against Broadhead Judah.
I talked to Coach Tyler McLean about the team's one-point loss to Richland Center last
week.
I think, again, overall, it was really nice to see our guys fight.
This has been a fight in group the entire year.
As Ken, the first week, we really saw a lot of that fight, kind of have a little more level of the execution.
We came really close.
You know, there's really no moral victories and stuff like that, but still a lot of stuff that were a lot of positives and stuff that I was proud of from our guys.
Anything you might as a differently in the game, looking back on
it?
I mean, obviously, I think towards the end there, I think swikin' that ball towards the end, I would have rather seen us just keep trying to attack and get downfield there.
You know, I think Senator did a nice job of sticking to their guns and really controlling their run game on offense as well too, so potentially trying to really siphon that a little bit more.
Um, I think no matter what, when monster tide is always reflection, you gotta take in as a coach and as a staff.
Um, so there's definitely some things I'd like to correct for us as well.
Well, you've got a chance this week to correct those with the game against a broad head shooter.
What do you know about them, coach?
Again, they're kind of in a similar boat as us.
They're still kind of fighting for that first win for themselves.
You know, a lot of seniors are going to be playing their last games here, so I think it could be a very emotional game.
River Valley football coach Tyler McLean.
Good luck to the Blackhawks at Broadhead Judah coming up on Friday night during the ninth week of the high school football campaign.
