Good morning, Bill.

How you doing down in the Brighton?

area today.

Oh, nice and sunny down here today, Jimmy.

So we're enjoying the day.

It's going to be home with 80 degrees.

So it's maybe the last little bit of summer before fall really arrives.

I was arriving here.

We had a beautiful weekend, a little bit cooler day when I left the West Houghton quarters early morning for a commute.

Over the weekend, Bill, the Trite Lions.

a pretty bad Arizona team Arizona created Harrison before the game.

The Packers humiliate the Bears past defense as well and the Vikings remain undefeated, which is a neat story in football.

Michigan-Tacocchi splits on the weekend at St.

Claude went and breathed to an overtime.

Friday moves at 3-1 Saturdays, then the Huskies with a huge win in college football Saturday and overtime against Grand Valley State 41-35 and an epic battle of game of 40 ages.

And Bill, before you get the major league...

baseball and your story today on the Penney Lockout and what's going on.

Did you get a chance to see any of that fiasco with the Washington Commanders the New York Giants football game yesterday?

No I didn't but I've read about it so did you watch it yourself and you can brief us on what really happened.

It sounds like the coach made some bad decisions.

Well you know I didn't watch it obviously I was committed to other things and we don't have that on the cable system up there.

They had the ball in overtime.

Gattaboo for the Giants fumbled.

They're inside the Giants

in 30, out of time out, and Daniel's had no idea about fog management.

Snyder had no idea about fog management.

Instead of spiking the ball, which they didn't do, to go for a win in a field goal, Daniel decides to roll out and get back.

It's nobody... I gotta admit, Bill, it was embarrassing for football, and it's all over the stations.

It's more than different football stations.

You don't see that in Pee Wee football.

I think it's safe to say someone... some ads will roll at this, but they say, Bill, coming to a theater...

in the near future.

I'd be surprised if this doesn't cost some people their jobs by the end of the year or during the year.

Washington, one in four, three washes in conference already, and that's almost a kiss of death right off the bat, isn't

it?

It is, it is.

That's what I read, is that it ended up in a tie, but Washington could have won it, but you're quite right.

There may be a special teams guy or somebody's gonna, maybe the head coach, but they're gonna have to put the things back together to celebrate these.

Well, I don't think special teams coach, Bill.

I mean, Niner was clueless.

Nate and Daniels, I mean, you gotta know better as a player, everyone on the offense just like they lost track of time.

And I'm not a fan of, I've never been a fan of Dan Quinn when he's with us, Seattle.

And obviously, when he's head coach at Dallas, he walks around like he's homeless, wears his hat backwards, doesn't look respectful to say the least.

And he looked totally confused and unsure of what to do in that situation.

And Bill, you've seen a lot of football, I've seen a lot of football, Sam's seen a lot of football, but how do you make this miss...

at the NFL level, not just the coaching staff, but the players.

Exactly right.

He's not preparing the players for every eventuality.

You think they'd have that figured out, but they'll give you next weekend for them.

I don't like their chances next week, Bill, going out to San Francisco.

basically undefeated 49ers.

Well, Bill, baseball playoffs were underway.

Brewers win a huge game Sunday night.

They played again yesterday.

ALCS is underway with Tapa Bay and Cleveland.

I took the Dodgers and just to be different, I took Cleveland.

I believe you took the Dodgers and Tapa Bay.

And I think I'm trailing you by one series in our pitch.

Is that correct?

All right.

Yes.

You're trailing me.

You're quite right.

I told you I didn't share mine on Sunday morning.

I picked

Tampa Bay in LA and we'll see what happens.

I think in the last round you ended up two and two and I was three and one.

So we'll see what happens in this next round.

But we've got the difference in that American League.

So that may separate us out, Gibby, but you're going to have a tough time catching me.

I think I'm up a couple of games on you.

Wow, that's why I'm taking Cleveland.

I got to go against the grain.

And whether the underdog is in the World Series, if I can somehow get one win here, but Bill, I could be eliminated by we get the World Series, couldn't

I?

You might be, but that's OK.

That's okay.

At least you haven't bet the house on it, Jimmy.

I

didn't bet nothing.

Well, Bill, speaking of baseball, speaking of baseball, the playoffs are a blast to watch.

I mean, it's intense baseball.

I mean, the drama.

But we gotta remember, this major league baseball...

the union and MLB itself, they're on a glisten course for a pending lockout.

They're reportedly miles apart.

MLB wants to take six games off the schedule next year and make it a more longer playoff.

The bill is, everything I've seen and hearing, they're not even close to settling this and everybody seems to feel that this lockout is pending.

It's more likely going to happen.

What are you hearing about this bill and what do you know more behind the facts that most of us don't potentially?

I think you're quite right.

After the playoff and the crowning of the world,

series, much of the focus of baseball is going to turn to the negotiations over the new collective bargaining agreement, or they call it the CBA.

And the question is, these are going to be a 2027 series.

The current five-year agreement is set to expire December 1, and an impending lockout is expected if no deal is reached.

It was a five year, they, uh, five year agreement.

The last one was signed in, in 2022.

Uh, and the negotiations started in the fall of 21.

They actually expired and, uh, the negotiations broke down.

Um, there was, uh, uh, when negotiations went down, all the major league transactions, the free agent stuff, everything's get frozen.

So it's, uh, and then, and, uh, after that fall of 21, and they went on, went on the lockdown, uh, they declared, they then,

of 99 days delayed the start of spring training until they reached agreement.

The key issues were the salary cap, reviewing the sharing of resources, the free agency, and expanding the playoff field.

And the last big one was in 1994.

That contracted lasted over 200 days.

It expired in December of 93 dating back here, but the season actually began.

as negotiations continued at that time, and then the players went on strike in August of 94.

So they expired in December of 93, but they just kept negotiating.

The players finally went on strike.

That's when the season was never completed.

They canceled the post-season playoffs that year.

They finally agreed in April of 95, and that season had the shorter number game.

I think that was the year the Montreal Expos would have made the World Series that year, but because of the strike and then a couple of years after the Montreal Expos ended up in Washington.

So last week, the Major League

baseball made several proposals to the players' association to consider.

They would like a seven-year agreement this time that would take them to 2033.

They want a salary cap.

The Major League Baseball still wants a salary cap that would set a maximum, but also a minimum.

The players are opposed to a maximum salary cap, and I think that's going to be the breakdown.

The Major League Baseball has also saved a shorter regular season, starting in 2029.

162 games to 154 and the last time they were playing and they want some roster and free agent changes.

They want to expand the division series to a best of, instead of best of five, make it best of seven.

And they've got some little scheme that for playoff selection, the higher feeding teams would pick the lower feeding teams.

So this year in the wild card and division series.

So this year, and they hope to start that in 2027.

The salary cap's going to be the big issue, Jimmy.

Major league baseball salaries have not been rigid.

They say when they go to shorter streams, they're not going to produce the salaries and they're going to co-rate the award bonuses and so on.

But the players are against any salary cap.

Now, when it was said the last time, they had this salary cap.

But if you went above that number, you had the luxury tax.

And so this year, there was $244 million.

And if your salary payroll was over that, you had to pay a luxury tax.

And so the Dodgers and Yankees, they were quite happy to pay the luxury tax.

proposal is a hard salary cap of two hundred forty five million which is basically and the minimum of a hundred seventy one million so that's going to be the big sticking point i think that uh... uh... that's going to really uh... cause a walkout or strike or whatever you call it uh... it's going to be tough make unless there's come quite a bit of shift on that everything that's going to happen the next couple years is the current missionary he's going to this contract uh... expires in a couple years and uh... he indicated he'd like to

and major league baseball uh... thirty two teams before he retires one in the west and one in the east so and they would start playing in thirty two or thirty three so that could be an interesting one to see i think it's going to happen it'll happen

The CBA is finalized or some agreement on that, but it looks like the leading cities are going to be set.

Salt Lake City and Nashville are kind of favorites right now, but they've figured the expenditure fees can be about $3 billion.

But they're really, those aren't holds until the finalize.

So it'll be an interesting fall with the CBA and the future changes in Major League Baseball, Jimmy.

So that'll take us into November and December and January and February.

discussions on major league baseball, but right now I think they're so far apart on this salary cap off.

I think that that's going to cause a lockout or a strike or whatever.

And Bill, you mentioned the changes, obviously, which they want to put in place.

But nothing's approved.

Everything's on hold until they come to an agreement.

So all these other changes, this is almost just cosmetic on top of the real problem, right?

Yes.

The real problem is the salary cap.

I think what they've thrown out is a few other things.

There's all kinds of things, shorter training, all kinds of rules that they have.

I think those are just

of the package but the big thing is the salary cap and that's where the players don't want it and they'll do all kinds of things when the last one they ended up with this luxury tax.

when they tried to put in the salary cap.

It may be something different.

There's up the salary cap, but they've also put in this time a minimum salary for payroll salary, so that doesn't exist yet.

So some say it could be interesting if it's Tampa Bay and Milwaukee in the World Series, where the high price teams have been eliminated.

So some discussion is what's the impact of who makes it the World Series or who wins the World Series this year with the payroll.

So we'll see what happens, but it's going to dominate the stuff in the late fall and in the winter.

This is a collective bargaining agreement.

Last week was when the Major League Baseball Group owners wrote some of the stuff that they were proposing.

Well, in that playoff thing, it's ridiculous.

the highest he can pick who they want to play.

I mean hockey too, I mean remember the old days building out about two minutes, 16 teams, one plays 16, two plays 15, so on and so forth.

I get out of the divisions, out of the banners, you put up, when they get to the playoffs, best plays worse.

I mean look at right now the current situation.

I mean you've got matchups that aren't featuring the best matchups possible, but why does so hard for these leagues is to pit

the

best against the worst, come play off time.

I don't get it.

Where were the stubbornnesses?

It is one of the things they have, because I'm really the other side.

I don't know if they'll ever sort that out, but that's one of the things that will probably come up in the next quarter by the room for the NHL, is that playoff system, and salary cap, so on.

So it's interesting and only different for what's happening now.

Well, Bill, in closing, what do you see coming?

Again, everything I'm hearing, this is almost going to be a lock-up.

So you mentioned some of the other ones, the length of them.

They're so far apart, and we know it's going to go on in the last minute.

I mean, there's no pretty divorces.

There's no pretty union negotiations.

What do you actually see happening, Bill?

Because you follow this a lot closer than others.

What's your gut instinct?

I think there's going to be a lockout in December 1st, and it's going to drag on for a while.

It'll be based on how willingly the major league owners are willing to depend.

I think the salary kept up is going to be the one that pulls up forever for a long period of time.

I can see it getting into spring training, shortening spring training, or delaying the start of the season a bit.

I think it will finally settle.

I think the owners will start to realize, oh, we don't want to shut down the season like we did in the mid-90s.

Sure, too, Bill.

Everything's going to be on hold after the season for agency and everything.

Well, we'll see what happens with this story.

Well, Bill, we're up against it.

We'll get you back next week, and thanks for sharing that information with us, my friend.

You're always fun to share with, and I'm actually giving up to the Copper Country this weekend to enjoy some of the hockey and football and the Hall of Fame banquet up there, so we're looking forward to getting back to the Copper Country to see old friends.

Well, Bill, maybe I'll bump India.

You know, I don't have much going on.

I'll definitely go to the Tech Northern Football Game Center as my game plan.

I'm still kind on the shelf, but I have been cleared for hockey, so we'll touch base this weekend possibly.

Okay, I'm

good Jimmy.

You have a have a great week up there.

Okay.

Thanks Bill our in-house professor Bill Sparrow joining us Thursday the good captain Lou Gamelin will be back on peeking inside a grapevine.

We're

gonna send it back to Sam in the morning.

Thanks, Sam

Happy to have you along for the ride for this show.

And head coach Bill McAlt is with us as well.

We are sitting in the Bob Olson Media Center getting ready for a home weekend.

Alaska comes to town.

Eric Largett and his team coming off a split this past weekend.

They stay in the continental United States and we'll head to Houghton.

for a Friday and Saturday series.

Husky's coming off a split at St.

Cloud State University.

Kind of a weird weekend, coach, as far as, you know, do we feel happy about that split?

Or, you know, it's, again, we were talking three and one after those first two weekends before the season.

I think we'd probably say, hey, well, we'll take that.

But I think we still feel there's improvement there, right, coach?

Well, first of all, I just want to know like Don Henley, like he can just blast it out, belt it out.

But can he can he broadcast and announce?

Because I know you can get after it.

So like that's kind of where my head's at right

now.

I don't know his chops as far as his broadcasting ability.

Yeah, I think you got him there.

He puts me to sleep when I watch him interview sometimes.

But

no, good, good stuff.

You know, it's tough to win on the road.

Let's face it.

We didn't get the result we wanted on Saturday night It's it's easy to play the the blame game, but it's it's not about that It's about our group getting better and a little adversity and we're gonna get

Other teams best games and we get some things we got to work on didn't like our face offs didn't like our team discipline Didn't like we had a couple guys that can play better without getting into names or specifics and that's good And when we'll learn from we'll get better You know, we we had a great video session yesterday.

You address some things that you know, I said to guys I said I can be a

You know, it's a democratic process with some things, and some things are, I'm a dictator.

It's non-negotiable for our identity and our brand, and I'll keep those things to our group, and there's stuff that happens in the locker room and discussions, but I think this is, you learn and you grow through some adversity, and that's what we're doing right now.

You know, this lineup for the first four games has stayed

mostly the same but we did inject our other co-captain this past weekend which was nice to see him back in the lineup and he scores the goal.

Yeah, you know, Isaac's such a great kid.

He's such a great leader.

He does so many things for our group.

He's a pleasure to come to the rink.

He makes others around him better.

He does a lot of things outside of the statute, but to get him back, see him score, see him smile, you know, it was really good.

He played really, really well.

I thought Saturday, in fact, you know, first game was Friday, but he even took a step on Saturday, which was really, really encouraging.

As you look at St.

Cloud and we don't want to look back too much, but were they what you expected coach?

I was really impressed with their speed and their forechecking ability on us.

So there are a couple things in that Olympic hybrid sheet that you know gave us their set breakout on Friday night in particular.

It wasn't a factor Saturday.

We made some adjustments and but Friday it was.

a big deal in our neutral zone and even the defensive zone of having three or four extra feet on each side of the rink prevented us from maybe killing and stopping some plays.

I was extremely impressed with their team speed overall, how fast they were.

I don't know if they'll be as effective on a normal sheet, but it was a little bit of a factor, I think also.

You know, not to make excuses, but we had a short week, obviously playing Saturday, Sunday and travel and this early in the year.

I didn't think we maybe hadn't necessarily as much juice as, and maybe that's a little bit of a, for lack of a better term, a hangover coming off a huge weekend.

And you try and say how hard it is to play, but they're a good team.

They're going to win some games.

Um, you know, from an analytic standpoint, you know, we've been on the right side of all four games, you know, if you, if you're an analytic guy, uh, but at the end of the day, um, the scoreboard doesn't lie.

That's, that's the real analytic thing that the, the, the, you know, that's the stat that matters the most.

But, uh, I like a lot of things about our team and our group.

And I, I thought we bounced back Saturday.

We didn't get a lot of.

we had some tough calls even against you know and you're gonna get that but you know I really liked our power plan our PK on Saturday that's growing and that's like you know hats off to Benton and Tyler with with those those things and you know it just we were in a 2-2 game tight in the third period and

you know, maybe we made a couple of mistakes of maybe trying to do too much that ultimately ended up biting us, but we had an unbelievable look, you know, with a, with a minute or so left, you know, Koski made a great play to the goal line and Noel Reinhart and it hits the goalie's shoulder.

I mean, if it's, I don't know if it's an inch higher, three inches higher, I mean, it's clearly it's in.

So we're right there.

and it stings, so it's not sugar coated, but it's tough to sweep on the road.

I'm gonna bring this up one more time and then I'm gonna let it go, because I've talked way too much about it.

And during the broadcast too, I should be blamed for maybe harping on this too much, but the face off thing, go back to that coach.

We really, I don't remember getting dominated on draws like we did this weekend.

When you're on, and I know how much the guys work on this too, when you're on the bench and that's happening,

You know, I'm thinking like old-timers.

Hey, just try to tie the guy up for crying out loud, you know, if you can't wait it.

Is there some of that conversation of just try to equalize it a little bit?

Well, they've, for the, for our fans and for people that maybe don't know, they've changed the face-off rules, you know, and it's, they're trying to get it, how would you say, if you're not cheating, you're not trying, and they've really started to

kick guys out for infractions and different things and you're supposed to be set down and you're supposed to have your stick, your full stick in, you know, on ice.

And, you know, I had sent 13 in to the league after Friday's game and I'd done it the week before.

And so part of it is, is gamesmanship and timing the draw and guys not getting set.

There's a lot of different.

you know, factors that go into it, but make no bones about it.

I'm not making excuses.

We're good enough.

If you had been in our coaching office yesterday morning, I was, I was on top of it and probably unpleasant would be a polite way of saying my demeanor and mood and, and we went, went and addressed it.

And it's a line of scrimmage.

We've won, we've won five or six face offs that they ended up getting in possession because the line of scrimmage and losing a battle because it's a five man unit that's out there.

Um, but there's no question.

Uh, we, we addressed it, uh, and you're not going to, it's a, it's a, that's will, it's want, it's compete, it's hunger and everybody's important with, with that.

And, uh, you know, you're going to have days where it doesn't go your way.

Like we started poor on, uh, Saturday night in the circle, but we actually dominated the last half of the game in it.

And we actually won some key face off six V five at the end when we needed to.

But even on a penalty kill, for say, if you if you win that draw and you can get a clear, you've you've basically chewed 20 seconds off of the clock versus having to kill in there and you can't change, right?

Obviously,

as we

we all know, so it's it's a big deal.

It's a big thing.

We work on it.

We're going to continue before practice today.

But yesterday we had, you know, we're all over it.

We videoed it.

We're here and

And it's just about learning and growing and getting better every day.

And that's the challenge as a coach, as a staff, to our players is not to play the blame game.

What's the techno aspect?

What can we do better?

to, you know, how can we be more effective?

But in that switches, you know, from the technical aspect to the tactical aspect or PK or power play to a defensive zone draw to running an offensive play.

And then, you know, development is it goes into transferable on Friday, Saturday night that it's effective.

So that's that's the process that goes behind it.

Great, great explanation.

Love it.

Quick break with head coach Bill McCult will be back with his thoughts on the big series.

against Alaska coming up and the Hall of Fame weekend.

It's all part of the Michigan Tech Huskies hockey radio show and Connor Roulette will chime in with us later on in the program too.

Hey, welcome back to the Michigan Tech Huskies hockey radio show on this Tuesday morning.

We can't wait.

It's Hall of Fame weekend Alaska's coming to town Friday and Saturday night a Team that the Huskies have played quite a bit the last few years even since the breakup of the old WCHA and and then being us an independent team right now coach Eric Largan and coach Bill McCault and the administrations have worked out some some great home and home

Years between these two teams coach.

I know you're excited about this Alaska team coming in with beat Boston College and has already played a very difficult schedule up until now

Yeah, no question, you know, it's a every every weekend You know you got to bring your best and it's just gonna be awesome playing in front.

I thought just

our fans, our student section, our community.

I just love coming to the rink.

They give us such a big boost.

The atmosphere is unbelievable.

I know our guys will be excited and looking forward to Friday night.

It's another opportunity of non-conference and it just sets you up so well from

you know, that big dance at the end of the year.

And it's kind of like putting money in the bank.

You go deposit that paycheck and it's going to be hard, but it's all about Friday.

Coach, do the WHL guys and the guys that played in those leagues that are now coming to the NCAA, do they appreciate the importance of these non-conference games?

There's a harder for them to kind of wrap their minds around, you know, this is so such a foundation for going

forward.

Well full full transparency.

I don't think we really understood that enough last year and you can tell Don't touch the stove.

The stove

is hot.

You're gonna burn your hand.

Yeah, but there's no question this group does you know with all the returning guys they understand it they get it It's It's a big deal.

It's you know, it's a premium.

It's

It's everything.

So it's not just a hockey game.

You're playing for something more than just that pride or that night.

That's important of that.

So that's kind of our preparation.

That's our mindset.

And we know the task at hand.

And it's not about Saturday night.

Right now, it's just all about Friday.

Coach Wayne Weller, who won a national championship with the Huskies.

Colin Murphy, who was a finalist.

in the Hoby Baker back in the early 2000s, and of course Darcy Way, who's had his mark on so many aspects of this hockey program.

Well, it'd be a goaltender, a coach, a radio broadcaster with Bob for many years in the home games, and of course, as a fundraiser, these guys are so important to the program and have been for so many years, and we'll get honored this weekend at the induction ceremony.

Yeah, for sure, Durkin.

Just special.

human beings, tremendous players, what they've done to help the legacy, the tradition of Michigan Tech and the hockey program is amazing.

Great story with Darcy Wade.

Two weeks ago, I get a call from one of my best friends in college who's went to school with.

at the University of Michigan, one or two national championships, and he's a neurosurgeon now in Jacksonville at the Mayo Clinic.

He calls me up and goes, hey, do you know Darcy?

Everybody at Michigan Tech knows Darcy.

So his daughter, the nursing program was in the...

operating room and she's doing great.

She's bright and Dr. Fox had so many great things to say about her, but I just think it speaks to the

The legacy of him as a human being, as a dad, and what he's done, and, you know, it was extremely complimentary of her, and she's going to go on and continue to do great things.

But that just speaks a little bit about Darcy and the hockey community and what a small world.

And how about you?

Hang in here, a great hockey division, a hockey coach, but hanging out with neurosurgeons.

Well, you know, you know what?

He slightly had a just a little bit higher GPA and bandwidth in that, that academic horsepower than I did.

You

guys veered away a different, different paths at that point.

Hey, that's awesome.

Yeah.

Just a special, especially human being.

It just goes to show you about the importance of education and going out and outside of hockey and, uh, you know, super proud of, you know, here I am growing up in Williams Lake and.

All these small towns in British Columbia, next thing you know, I'm the best man at a neurosurgeon's wedding, so I don't know, I maybe outkick my

coverage.

Well, when everybody's here at the games this week, if you look up at the big suites, one of the big suites, that's where all of the inductees and their family and friends will be.

for the weekend now the ceremony is Friday evening so they're always late arriving to Friday's game but Saturday for sure and then Saturday on the ice they'll be Acknowledged here at the McGinnis student ice freedom now game time 707 Friday night 607 Saturday night tickets are available There's going to be all kinds of great promotions I'll tell you more about those in just a little bit during the games But get your tickets by huskies tickets.com coach.

We're really looking forward to this week And I know the guys are to get back on the home ice and

try to get a couple of big, good games against a really good Alaska team.

Yeah, no question.

We know it's going to be races and battles and compete.

I'm looking forward to it.

Our guys are looking forward to it.

Our fans, it'll be a great weekend and it's another step.

They're in our way and kind of just flush everything out, learn, grow, get better every day.

We talk a little bit

There's adversity in the season, there's adversity in life and it's about the grit.

It's not, you're gonna get hit, you're gonna get, but it's bouncing back and fighting forward and it's hard every day to get better every day.

You know, it's easy to be average.

It's easy to be mediocre.

There's no special requirements to be in, you know, for lack of a word, like, you know, when you don't have success, I guess.

But it's, that's where we're at.

I know we have a lot of pride.

I know guys aren't happy.

They're not satisfied.

And, you know, Friday night's gonna be one.

I can't wait.

It's gonna be a lot of fun.

7-0-7 Friday night.

And, of course, on the way, listen to the broadcast starting at 6.30 here on MIX 93.

Thanks, coach.

We appreciate it.

And enjoy the rest of the week.

Sounds good.

I can't wait to, you know, maybe get you out on Don Hanley.

Let's go.

And we'll do that.

Absolutely.

Head coach Bill McCault here on the Michigan Tech Huskies Hockey Radio Show.

We'll be back after these.

We

are joined by Connor Roulette, number 29 for the Huskies on that left wing.

Connor, first of all, nice having you on this team.

I want to go back a couple of weeks to your very first goal as a Husky.

It was a beauty.

I know you already described it a couple of times, but now that you've had a little time to think more about it, how big was it for you and take a

Yeah, I mean it's definitely

huge obviously score in front of the home crowd is sweet

you know, the home crowd that weekend was pretty awesome to see.

And although they were all there for Friday night, I think they were a little more excited for the next two games after being canceled the first night there.

So they brought their energy.

And yeah, I mean, it was just a great play by Millsy.

And you know, just to get that kind of off your off the, you know, get it early and not have to kind of worry about, you know, getting in your head about not scoring or whatever.

So it's nice to get that early.

And like I said, it was a great pass by Millsy.

just to have that deception to pass across.

And I was just able to beat the goalie.

You're known

as a goal scorer.

We've watched a lot of your highlights from over the years before you became a Husky.

At one-time play, though, it's something that's not easy to do, even if you have a perfect pass.

How often have you practiced that?

And how big is that in your game?

Yeah, I mean, one-timers, for me, aren't really my specialty.

I don't really score much from the one-timer.

But it's just one of those things that, before or after practice, a lot of guys

It's just one of those things you work on, just trying to get the puck off as quick as you can, not stopping the puck and stick handling or whatever.

It kind of gives the goalie more time to get there.

So being able to shoot the puck quick is something that a lot of hockey players, especially myself, that practice a lot just to catch goalies off guard.

I think the better the goalies get, the more harder it is to score when you try to make that one extra move.

So being able to shoot the puck off quick was huge.

And yeah, for any hockey player that can score goals, I think being able to do that is a big thing for them.

You're four games into your NCAA career.

Obviously, we played two really good teams already.

What is the difference that you've noticed?

The biggest difference from this level to youth sports and the other levels that you've played prior to becoming a Husky?

Yeah, I mean, it's definitely really fast.

you know, a lot of the, you know, last year for sure, uh, playing new sports, there was maybe a little bit more time with the puck.

Um, and then, yeah, you play, you play against a great team every weekend.

There's no, there's no weekends where, you know, there's a team that's, that's not as good as the next team, you know, it's every team's there and every game's huge.

And I think that's what a lot of teams have in, you know, a lot of pride, a lot of school pride and a lot of teams with their fans and whatnot and having home crowds, home crowded home, home, home ice advantage is, is a huge thing.

And, um, you know, just, yeah, I think it's just every, every night, every game.

and every team brings it and gives it their all every night.

You never know what you're going to get as far

as line combinations as you go through the season, but you had a chance to play with Gordo this past week and talk about him a little bit as that

leadership guy.

Yeah, well, I mean, obviously Gordo being another Manitoban, I was able to skate with him the last few summers.

So even prior to playing with each other on a line, we were able to skate with each other in the summers and get to know each other.

So, you know, he's just a great player and great leader.

I mean, you look at him off the ice, the amount of work he puts in into his, you know,

you know, his career and his hockey skills.

It's really big.

It shows on the ice.

And he's one of those smart players that, you know, he could play with anyone and make anyone better.

And yeah, he's just a great guy and he's a good player to play with.

I think going 3-1

through the first four before the season, we would have taken that.

But a little bit disappointing on this past weekend, because I feel like maybe we think we could have got more out of St.

Cloud.

What did you feel was the difference in our play maybe this past weekend compared to the Minnesota

weekend?

I mean, like I said, you play against teams every weekend where we both have the same goals leading into that weekend.

I think being on the road getting a split is huge for us.

Obviously, Minnesota was a team that had a lot of skill draft picks and a lot of guys that could make plays and play.

And St.

Cloud was definitely a team that just had the speed.

They seemed like maybe they just, I don't know, maybe maybe used to their ice.

Their ice was a little big there.

You know, I thought I thought we played a great weekend and their goalies made some big saves and I think just, you know, a couple more balances that go our way.

I think that we go with that weekend 2-0.

Michigan Tech forward Conor Roulette wears number 29.

He's got a goal under his belt at the NCAA level and certainly hoping for a lot more.

Speaking of more, we've got more Michigan Tech Huskies hockey radio show coming up right after this on Mix 93 WKMJ.

Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 7 to 4 in Saturdays from 7 till 2.

Jamie Johnson joins us.

Jamie, as you look at the team at this point this season, how do you think the team is playing now as we get deeper into the season?

Well, it's still hard to know because we haven't had the same team.

Last night was our first.

time.

I even took a picture of it for a talk.

They were laughing.

What are you taking a picture of?

I said, it's our whole team together.

It's the first time since September 4th that we've all been able and available and somewhat at full strength.

So it certainly gave us a hard time last time, but we have Ella back this time.

So hopefully that should help.

We're a home crowd during a homecoming week.

So hopefully we'll play well tonight and Thursday night.

kind of build some rhythm and confidence and then head into the tournament next week.

I would expect to buy, you know, with our record and kind of anticipating the seating there.

We should get to buy it and then see who we face, but it should be a good time just to get rolling.

It's an exciting time.

And the girls have said, sorry to believe tournament starts next week.

And it's like, yeah, just the season's kind of flown by in some ways and some ways it's drugged on with the

trying to figure out who our lineup is, but we're comfortable as well.

We're at and ready to move forward.

As you play Lancaster, you mentioned you struggled a little bit against them last time.

What do they feature, Jamie?

Well, I think they just had a really good talking to their coach.

They kind of had one of their inspirational moments.

I think that you do have during the season where you get serious and like, what are we here for and getting that focus?

It's sound like they kind of had that over the weekend and then coming into our match.

They block very well and they're one of their hitters got got going and we weren't blocking very well and that's still a weakness of ours that we got to continue to get better but being at full strength we have some people in different spots and I think that helps us now moving forward being able to have Kylie especially on that right side setting that block you know against the strong side hitters Jesus

really a strong kid and has worked really hard and been able to get a lot of good black touches.

Even if they're not black kills, she's putting it back on them and making them earn it again.

As

you look at down the stretch here, again, a week to go in the season, a couple of matches this week, homecoming week, late in the season.

I know that's never coach's ideal week, but hopefully you're using this as a good thing, a positive thing to motivate the team, right?

Yeah, absolutely.

I mean, it's kind of scary thinking that we have a homecoming week, homecoming dance on Saturday, and we start the WI turn with the next week when there's a lot of times of physical kind of emotionally draining hangover.

They're just tired or wiped.

They do so many things.

They have the powder puff football game, so they were out last night.

You know, tonight we have the match and some other just activities going on all week.

A lot of our kids are always involved with different things.

with student council and just extra time and stress.

And then, oh yeah, by the way, there's a student during this coming up this late, especially getting close to the end of the term.

So it's definitely a little more hectic week, trying to get them to enjoy it.

We went a little shorter last night with practice, just trying to conserve some energy for them.

And we had a really good rhythm to the practice and really high focus.

And it started to flip, but I'm like, hey, we're going to call it.

I was going to leave early, but we even left a little bit earlier than I anticipated just because I wanted to keep us sharp and staying on that.

So it can be a fun week.

You know, Thursday night will be a senior night.

And I guess the homecoming game, we wanted it to be the night, but the band, everything will be there Thursday.

And it's a lot to play for the rest of this week.

And we have a lot to play for.

We've got to get ready for a tournament run that's going to face some good teams.

You know, you got some good teams sitting at the top of there.

sectional there on our side with Valley and, and Vroqua had another great year and, and Fennimore who beat us, you know, or rounding out that top and then these bottom teams, um, that maybe I think below us, um, still put up good fights.

We had some quality wins.

So, um, you got to show up every night and, uh, hopefully the good news is we have not peaked, but hopefully we can start peaking and just get hot at the right time.

We will have more from Jamie Johnson, Richland center volleyball coach when the pre-match show continues.

There's just not enough hours in the day.

Have you ever felt this way?

I talked to Richland Center volleyball coach Jamie Johnson earlier about the health of the team getting into this week.

As far as I know right now, this is the healthiest we've been since September 4th or the 5th, that first match of the tournament.

So everybody was able to practice last night.

Um, they, you know, some of them had took Thursday and Friday off last week and didn't play or practice.

So I think that rust helped them, their injuries.

And, um, I think we're looking to get going full steam this week.

So it looks like you're going to be playing next Tuesday or is there a chance you're going to have a buy in the tournament?

Um, we should have a buy.

Um, I think we should be in that top four.

I know the top four, maybe even the top five seats, um, have a buy.

So.

My guess is we'll be playing next Thursday Typically if you get a buy you host so we shall player hosting next Thursday and then just we'll see from there

And it was electronic seating this year first time that's ever happened And I guess we'll kind of see how it goes.

I think almost all sports are now going that way, aren't they?

Yeah ours is unusual because we have the appeal process.

I think I'm like soccer If I believe right just went electronic and just

announced it.

I think basketball did it last year.

They just announced it.

So that appeal process could be good or bad.

It should be good for us.

Since we have the story that why you have appeals, it's more like, oh, this matchup, we were head to head and we beat them.

Or you don't realize that as it comes down.

Or you have injuries to a key player or whatever, which is what we definitely had.

So it should go in our favor, but you never know the human factor.

and how people end up voting on that appeal.

So it'll be interesting to see.

Overall, I do like the format of that electronic seasoning that rewards those teams that go out and get themselves a good schedule and play tough teams.

And then you get the record where it falls.

And also, sometimes it leaves a lot of stress because I spent a lot of time figuring out who

who to vote for, you know, even on those bottom teams, because those teams deserve time and respect.

They worked hard and put season in, and they deserve to have the ranking that they have.

So it'll save a lot of time and stress and really narrow down, you know, with that possibility.

I think there's going to be some mistakes or some things that they can make better next year, just from timing of knowing when the meetings are to how long and just some different things, I think.

I think they'll maybe look at that process and try to clean that up because there's been a lot of frustration by some coaches that just even the few I've interacted with in the last few days.

So I think it'll get better.

But overall, I like the concept of it and had a chance to appeal for us.

Like, again, this year, you know, with our injuries and things that, you know, it should go in our favor.

But I never know.

And again, human factor comes in and people

may see some sort of head-to-head competition as the de-factor, um, and not about the injuries or whatever.

So we'll see maybe other people who had some more injuries or things too.

So we'll go from there.

All right.

Well, happy homecoming week.

Good luck to Latin flycaster.

Thank

you.

It is kind of a tropical theme this year for Richland Center Homecoming, and it's like some people have the Hawaiian shirts out tonight.

Jamie Johnson is sporting one this evening, although he had looked like some sort of a tropical headband that was orange.

He didn't match the green Hawaiian shirt, but anyway, that's the theme tonight.

tropical.

Some of the students have gone on with that as well.

Others, I'm not sure, maybe it's more of a freelance thing tonight.

So the Hornets maybe started a little sluggish, got back and played pretty evenly down the stretch to pull away and I think one of the key attributes was their serving as they get out to a win and set number one and starting

with the libero player arrows bring in Her and now getting set for the serve here for the start of set number two the Richland Center Hornets four and four in the conference Open to get a home match by in the first round of the tournament next week Starts on Tuesday Richland Center soccer team gets an opening night home match against Maustin that'll be

Two nothing, right, a stick with it.

Adelaide back to serve will be number 14 Aubrey Colestin I Was on the floor a lot when I played but never made a play this one is going to be up a nice block by Elevee Weiss and the Hornets go up three to nothing Elevee using that block on nice job and Controlling it And the Hornets will serve again Here comes the run-up in the line drive serve dug by Lancaster

Lancaster in serve, received mode.

Hornet serve, and Adelen low to the ground is going to be played now, and I am going to go caroming off into the stands.

On the opening dig, and that'll make it five to one.

Another strong serve by Adlin Wirtz.

Here goes the next one.

That one pulled to the right a little bit.

Arrows set it, now played by Stader, takes it over, back row.

Hornets get a hand on it, Wirtz.

And now for the back row, Bricko got it over, nice job!

Ball to the right side, Arrows punch it over, kept live by Wirtz, back to the Arrows, back to Weiss, drops it in.

Oh my goodness, the Hornets playing well and I'm letting it tap the ground and how about that saved by Peyton Bricko over the shoulder from way back on the out of bounds line of the basketball court.

Timeout, Lancaster 6-1, Hornets in the second.

We'll be back with more in a moment from WRCO Sports.

Lancaster will serve.

Brooklyn Trubel plays it over the middle.

It's going to be cut off by Burns back to the near side.

Gambler got it through the wall and down.

JC averaging a little over two kills per set for the Hornets.

Makes it a 7-2 ball game.

Serving is Peyton Bricko, drives it over the far side, played by the arrows, passed to the left.

Im takes it over, back row works, now Colestead and Clements drives it over, fielded by the Ls, they keep it live ball at the net, ball up, blocked by Gander, down it goes.

Lancaster left it hanging, and J.C.

Gander did the rest.

That makes it by a score of 8-2, the Hornets by 6 here in this second set.

Here's the serve by Bricko pulls it right side dug by the arrows and that one caroms out of bounds on the dig and that gives the Hornets a seven-point lead at 9-2.

Bates and Bricko having a really good second set here will keep on serving.

This one fielded on the right side taken there by the arrows passed to the left eye and gets it over dug by Colst.

That one caroms towards the sands.

Burns saves it and punched over that time by Adelenworth.

Ball back to the left side for the arrows.

They get it over tipped by the Hornets.

Ball at the net.

Locked over and down by Maddie Burr.

The arrows win the battle and the arrows are going to give up a point though.

Looks like they're called for being in the net and the Hornets go up by 8-10-2.

Back to serve will be Payton Bricko.

Peyton gets the whistle, and here's the serve.

Fielded by the arrows, back to the near side, they're going to center it, and the back row is going to try to get it over on hit number three, and they can.

Arrows struggling with the passing, that makes it 11-2.

Hornets by nine in the second.

Again, they won the opener by seven.

Rico serves again.

Fielded now by the arrows.

Left side, they're going to take a shot with Im.

Doug Backrow works nice job.

Back to Burns, Bricko gets it over from the back row, fielded by the arrows near the scores table to punch into the net, driven over and down, and the arrows are called for over the line.

That'll make it 12-2.

Richland Center in the lead in the second.

Bricko will serve again.

Hornets have opened up a 10-point lead, the biggest of the night.

This one, a line drive serve, fielded on the right side by the arrows.

They'll set it up for I'm.

Vanessa takes a shot, got it down.

Got it kind of diagonally across the lane and the Hornets unable to block it.

That makes it 12 to 3.

Vanessa, I'm with her first kill in the second set.

And the Eros will serve.

This one on the near side, dug by Gander, blocked by the Eros and down it goes.

Rally Horth gives her team at second point in a row, 12 to 4.

Serving again.

Will be the arrows.

And here's the whistle.

And the approach.

That one played now by Gander.

Colstead to Berth.

Kylie takes it over.

Back row.

Fielder there by Morgan.

Drives it over.

Back row to Charlie Bailey.

And now the Hornets-Gander, taken for the right side, hits it into the net.

And the arrows have scored three in a row.

12-5 here in the second set.

So back to serve again.

The arrows libero player.

Here's the run-up and the line drive serve fielded by Bailey Colested right side taking the shot over and it is out of bounds Clements takes the shot missed and the arrows have now scored again 12-6 Four points in a row and I think Coach Sammy Johnson talking with the team no timeout yet Here's the approach and the serve by the arrows that one angles out of bounds

So the serve error gives it back to the Hornets, and they go up 13-6.

Rotating in, now Bailey Werks is in the front left, and Ava Belch will be in the back row doing the serve.

Here goes the approach.

And the serve, and it's going to be fielded by the arrows punched over at the net, taken there by Adelen Werks, and then the Hornets are going to be

Taken by the Arrows, quick set, there's Horth taking it back real.

Bailey for the Hornets, back to Belch and Gander drives it over.

Lancaster keeps it going and they hit it in the net and hit number three.

Hortons go back up by eight, 15-7 in the second.

Peyton Bricko is back in in the back row as a little arrow player.

Bailey goes out and here goes the next serve.

Fielded by the arrows, Horth with the set, getting it right back as Morgan and takes it in.

Addison Morgan from Raleigh Horth's assist and that makes it 15-8.

7 point Hornet edge Vanessa.

It's an ace for the Hornets and that'll make it 17 8 Ella Clements With her first ace in this set

Let's see if she had one earlier.

The Hornets have now five aces in the match.

This one a left serve.

That one drops over.

That's going to be an ace.

Hornets back in the lead by 10.

Their biggest advantage is matched here in set number two.

Alec Clements brings her way to the near side.

Now serves it far right.

Fueled by the arrows.

There's Horth setting it up.

Played by the Hornets Belch to Ella V. Weiss who drives it over.

Good team effort there.

And serving again will be Ella Clements.

Second set.

Hornets won the opener, 25-18.

Here's the serve.

Fielded by the arrows.

They'll set it up left side.

Morgan takes it over.

Good dig by Klemeth.

And now taking the angle on the hit was Adelen Werks.

Arrows dumped it over on the hit by Morgan.

Weiss shot blocked.

Bailey Werks gets it over.

Backline to the left.

Hornets within five are going out in set number two.

Fielded by the Eros, set to the left side.

Morgan takes the angle, good dig there by Clements.

Belch now back to Elevee Weiss, who drives it back row, and Eros can't get it.

Tough hit on number two, and Brooklyn Proble tried to salvage it and could not.

Hornets lead 21-8.

A lot of that passing is effected by how well the opening serve is.

This went over the far side, fielded by the arrows.

They'll try it on the right side now, and Horace gets it over.

Back row, it's going to be Gander, and now back to a nice line drive, shot down by Adelen Wirtz.

Line drives the kill, and the Hornets lead 22-8.

Adelen Wirtz having a big second set as well.

Going along with it, looks like three kills.

and an ace so far in the second.

And Ella Clements will serve.

This one to the right side, arrows field it and now get it over on hit number three.

Ella Clements passes, belt sets it up, knuckled over on the right side by Wurz, fielded by the arrows to the left side.

Morgan shot into the net and the Hornets lead 23-8.

Serving again will be Ella Clements.

Look for shoulders getting sore and odd.

She's been pounding them.

There's another one on the right side fielded by the arrows passed to the left side and now driving it over the arrows.

Hopped up by Bailey where it's Elevee Weiss dumps it in.

Just a little tip in.

Found the place where they weren't and then makes it 24 to 8.

Hornets dominating here in the second and trying to win it.

Game point now.

Here's the serve fielded by Nimitz.

Pass to the left side, and Morgan drives it over.

Played now by Adeline Wirth's wife, slams it over, and kept line by the arrows.

That one at the net.

Block, down it goes.

On the play by the Hornets, Elevee Weiss, and they win it 25-8 here in the second.

Dominant play on the part of the Hornets.

Their fans responding after set number two, Rich will center up.

Two to nothing.

High School Volleyball.

More coming up in a moment from WRCO Sports.

Welcome to the Dairyland Transportation High School Sports Update.

Dairyland Transportation of Richland Center knows what it takes to meet the needs of customers in a fast-paced world.

Dairyland Transportation is proud to salute all high school athletes with the Dairyland Transportation High School Sports Update.

The Richland Center Ithaca cross-country team is getting ready for the conference meet, which comes up already this Thursday night.

I talked to coach Eric Minden today.

Yeah, we've had a strong month of October so far.

Both the boys and the girls teams had great performances at Platteville a week ago and then ran well also this weekend at Riverdale.

So I feel like we're in a pretty good place to be running our best here as it hits conference and sectionals time.

The team has, of course, homecoming at Richland Center this week.

Anything special that the team is doing?

Nothing in particular.

It doesn't usually line up where our conference meet is the week of homecoming.

Kind of exciting in a way.

We'll be able to hopefully celebrate some good performances during homecoming week, but also a challenge in that the teams have a lot going on.

Tell me about conference and where is that going to

be this year?

Yeah, Prairie Machine is hosting a conference at their golf club.

So it's a tough course, lots of hills.

We ran it four or five years ago, I think, for sectionals, so we're familiar with it.

So it's going to be a good challenge.

You were coming off Riverdale meet where it's more of a flat course.

It's quite a transition and change get to a more hilly course on Thursday,

isn't it?

Yeah, great juxtaposition there of the two different types of courses.

A lot of straightaways at Prairie de Chine.

We didn't quite get that Riverdale.

It's a lot of flat, but tight turns.

So definitely a different type of course.

But we've been practicing.

We've been prepared.

We'll be ready to go.

Richland Center Ithaca Cross Country Coach Eric Mindham.

Good luck to the teams as they head to conference on Thursday.

Welcome back to the Richmond Center High School Field House.

Hornets with a very dominant second set win, 25-8, led by three kills and a block for Elevee Weiss, two aces for Ella Clements, three kills for Adeline Wirts.

Roland Caster, Burr, Horth and Morgan each share a kill and we get to set number three.

Hornets leading 2-0 here.

Other scores, it looks like River Valley is up on Dodgeville, 2-0.

Lafarge Youth Initiative is up 1-0 on North Crawford and in soccer it appears River Valley has defeated Richland Center 3-0 in that conference action being played at River Valley this evening.

A busy night, that is for sure.

We're getting ready for set number three.

The arrows will start it in play and number 12, Addison Morgan will do the honors.

From our raised to at best center sports desk tonight, there's the serve played by the Hornets and it kind of pinballed around three players and drops in and Lancaster leads one to nothing.

Good opening serve by Addison Morgan, though not an ace.

Three players touched it just could not get it going.

Here goes the next serve.

Another line drive and there's another that's going to be an ace that makes it two to nothing.

Hard serve by Addison Morgan.

Ornates try to recover.

Sometimes you play well and yet you cruise and then you get to the next set and you try to regain that magic.

It's a magic and really amazing what a three minute break can do.

Ornates trying to get it back.

It's going to be Bailey.

Back to wife, tough one, and then played behind the antenna, Burns can't get it.

Tough pass for her to handle, and the arrows go up three to nothing.

Hornets in serve receive mode, and Addison Morgan will keep swinging from the back row.

Here comes the run-up and the jump serve, fielded by Gander.

This one caroms near, so I kept live by the Hornets.

No, it's going to be a lift called on Richland Center, and it's a four-nothing start.

for the arrows here in the third.

Volleyball is a funny game.

Hornets can do nothing right right now in the first four points, and Lancaster dominating.

Here is Bailey with a pass, Colestead right side, punched over by Elevee Weiss, and that one drops in, and the Hornets back on track.

Four to one now.

Elevee Weiss does the senior thing and puts the team back in the right mode, and the serve belongs to Adlin Wirtz.

The sophomore with the run-up, and here is the serve.

Nemitz kept live on the right side, punched by the arrows, blocked by Burns, back to Lancaster, they try again, backed up by the Horace, and Warts gets it over, a nice play.

Back to the right side, the arrows take a shot, played by Burns in the middle, now Colst, it sets it to the left, J.C.

Gambier with a shot, blocked by the arrows, and down it goes.

Five-one Lancaster here in the third.

Kruble with the block, into the lineup number 15, Vanessa Aime.

Serving will be Brooklyn Kruble for the arrows.

Five-one score, four-point edge for the visitors, and that's going to be a line drive fielded by the Hornets.

It goes out of bounds on hit number one, another Lancaster ace, and that makes it a six-to-one lead.

Arrows off and running on this one.

Here goes the next serve.

That one is a net serve and the Hornets get it back.

Six to two for the score.

Thanks to our sponsors including Rockwell Automation.

Sponsoring what we do here at Richland Center High School.

We appreciate them and all they do for the community.

Here goes the serve by Bricko.

Field on the right side by I'm to the back row on the attack shot over the top that time by the arrows.

Hornets get it.

Colstead back and Ella Clements drives it over.

Fielded by the arrows at the net, they slap it over and hit number two.

Bricko and then Burns from Colstead drives it over.

Fielded by Morgan, sat on the right side, Byrd drives it over.

Bumped to the net by Bricko.

Colstead to the right side, Adelen Woods takes it back, Roland Castor.

Morgan, Krubo, and now punched down the line that time by Stader.

Saved by the Hornets, Gander takes a shot, right side, arrows get the dig, back to the right side of the pass.

They'll drive it over and get it down.

Looks like a totally different Lancaster team.

7-2, they leave.

The kill by Maddie Burr.

So back it goes to the arrows, checking back in Israeli Horth in the front row.

And Lancaster will serve up by five in the third.

Hornets won the opener, 25-18.

The second set, 25-8.

Lancaster up 7-2 in the third.

Here comes the serve by Hoffman to the right side, fielded by Burns.

There's the set post that gives it right back to Kiley.

She takes it over.

Fielded on the near side by the arrows, pass to the right side, taking it over and down.

That one was hit.

I think it hit the antenna.

That's the point for the Hornets.

That'll make it 7-3.

Landcaster by four, side out, Richland Center.

Ava Belch will serve.

for Richland Center, down by four.

And the junior starts at the back line, and here's the run-up.

Driving to the right side, fielded by the arrows.

Quick set, taking a shot, now it's worth.

Fielded by Belch, back to Bailey-Wertz.

Gander drives it over, and there's a lift called on the arrows, and the Hornets are within three at seven-four.

Richland Center using some power on that front left.

Ava Belch to serve again for the Hornets.

Down by three.

Ava's serve.

Far side, fielded by the arrows.

Pass it to the middle and now Morgan takes it over.

Fielded by Gander, gets it right back from Clements and Jaycee takes it over.

Beautiful shot, got it in.

Right in front of the back line.

Seven-five.

Jaycee Gander with a clutch hit there and the Hornets keep the serve.

Time out for the ball to be retrieved.

It can go a long way.

All right.

We're back to it.

Belch will serve.

Gets the whistle, and here's the serve.

Fielded now by the arrows, and they can make a play.

The first pass dropped in the middle.

Nobody called it, and it drops in.

The Hornets are within one at 7-6.

Back to serve again will be belch Here's the run-up and the line drive serve left side can't play it Stader tried to dig it on the back line and all of a sudden we're tied and Lancaster wants a timeout Hornets have won two tonight.

We're tied in the third at seven here on WRCO and WRCO dot com

Ava Belch will serve after the Richland Center timeout.

7-7 score.

Lancaster bumps into the net.

They can't play the count and the Hornets go up 8-7.

First lead of the third set for Richland Center.

Belch will keep on serving then.

Back to the back line.

Now Jamie Johnson's got the crown on I guess it is.

Again going along with the theme

This year of Tropical.

Here's the set to the left side.

Punched over by the arrows.

Here's the quick set by Belch.

Blocked by the arrows and tipped by the Hornets out of bounds.

Ellen Casper gets a point back.

That makes it 8-8.

Arrow's Addy Stader will serve.

Stader with a couple of dribbles.

And coming up now with a serve.

Fielded nearer side by Clements.

Quick set.

And then Ella gets it back.

Wasn't expecting it, I don't think.

And the heroes are going to get a point as that one drops in.

That makes it 9-8.

Lancaster back by a point in the third.

Addie Stader will serve.

Steps up, derives it on the near side.

Fielded by Charlie Bailey.

There's a quick set.

Ella Clements down through the block and got it in.

That makes it 9-9.

And Ella Clements

gives RC the tie.

JC Gander rotates to the back row and will serve.

Here it is, far side, fielded by the arrows.

They'll pump it to the right, find Morgan, she drives it over.

Gander back to Belch and now driving it over is Werth's almost nice job there on the dig by Stader.

Arrows get it over on the hip, find Morgan.

Back it goes for Madeleine Werth, said Belch takes it down the line.

fielded by the arrows to the right side and driving it over and out his eye.

That'll make it a 10-9 Richland Center lead.

So going back to serve will be JC Gander with the Hornets up by one here in the third.

Richland Center sports boosters are selling ducks for the duck race this year happening on Friday after the parade.

Lancaster with a return trip on this volley.

That one is out of bounds on the hit by Morgan.

And the Hornets go up 11-9.

Bo Hendricks and I will be there on Friday afternoon to emcee that great event to let the water go.

It's going to be a little chilly for the duck race, it sounds like.

Here's the serve.

Ducks don't care, though.

Right side Morgan drives it over.

Good dig there by Bricko.

Keeps it going.

There's the pass by Bailey Worth and J.C.

Gander gets it over.

Arrows knock it over on hit number two.

Played by Bricko and Clemens gets it down.

After a really good set by Eva Belch and the Hornets go up by a score of 12 tonight.

Time out for the ball to be retrieved again.

Ella Clements with two kills in the third set.

Hornets leading two to nothing here in this far-city action looking for a sweep tonight at the Richland Center High School Fieldhouse.

Here goes the serve.

Fielded by the arrows.

There's a quick set by Horace and Morgan drops it over.

Belch back it goes.

Drop blocked by Lancaster back to the Hornets.

Here's a shot by Adelaide Worth.

Fielded back row by the arrows.

Set it to the right side.

Morgan knocks it over.

Good recovery by Adelaide.

Left side Belch drives it over.

Fielded by the arrows again to Morgan.

Right side heavy hitter got it down and it was tipped by the Hornets.

It'll be a Lancaster point.

That makes it

Should be 12 to 10, I believe.

Let's see.

Check that score.

Charlie Bailey is coming out.

Coming out to the floor, I should say, as they rotate around.

Yeah, it's 12 to 10.

So the arrows get the side out.

Rizzle Center by two in the third.

Here comes the approach and Addison Morgan with a serve.

That one goes out of bounds.

Or it's lead by three.

at 13-10.

Parade at 2.55 on Friday, and then, yeah, the duck race downtown immediately following that.

Gets your chances.

I know they sold out of them last year, so if you want to be in the running or the swimming, make sure you get your duck this week, and your duck's in a row.

Lancaster with a return trip, back row gander, passes to Belch, Elevee Weiss, smacks it, head down it goes, and the Hornets lead by four.

14-10, Elevee Weiss.

gets the kill.

That's her second in the third set and Ella Clements will run up and there's the line drive serve fielded by the arrows.

This one care on the story to stay on good recovery by Kruble.

Driven over that time by Stader and the Hornets try for the right side.

Bailey worth shot blocked by the arrows and out of bounds and the Hornets get a point 15-10.

Bailey works just a freshman.

Planned well on that right side as she comes in on the rotation.

There is the serve by Ella.

Again to the right side the arrows take the shot.

Morgan back row.

Field of there by JC Gander.

Quick pass and then driving it over as that one works.
