We're going to start first with the visiting Forest Park Trojans.

a look at their

The two players that stand out, particularly on

offense, players they're thankful to have back in tip top shape for this game.

Starting with the quarterback, number 12, the senior Vic Giuliani.

He's shown himself to be an incredible

dual

threat.

A big priority

in the Trojan offense

is getting

Giuliani involved in the rushing attack.

At least that's what we've seen over the past

few weeks, particularly in that big

game against Delch North Dickinson, where the Trojans defeated them by a score of 59 to 52.

So a shootout there, a lot of points needed to be put on the board.

And Vic Giuliani, a big way that the Trojans were able to put that 59-point

mark up on their home

scoreboard.

Dax Hukie, also a big player

for them, a running back, also a senior, wearing number 12 today.

Sorry, apologies, wearing number 13 today.

Coming out of the backfield behind the quarterback Giuliani most

of the time.

And he is another big impact player.

He

is one of the speedier backs you'll see at this level of football.

going to be a tough case for the Lakes defense to keep those two players contained in the backfield over the course of this game.

Take a look over at the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes.

We've got, of course, number five Brady Axford as our key player, particularly on offense.

He's been the heart of this team, takes a lot of snaps of quarterback, otherwise he's involved in running back

behind Lake Lebo, the full quarterback, and Josh Davatella, the usual fullback.

Axford has been the bulk of this team scoring offense over the course of the season.

Other players like Tyler Axford, Alfred Mielke getting

involved on the back a little

bit more over the course of

the season.

But Brady

still the beating heart of this offense.

On

the

defensive side,

for the first

time in a while, we should see a fully healthy Josh Davutella out there as an edge rusher and linebacker for the Lakeland and Hubble Lakes.

If he can be out there at full force today with the defense that's kind of shaped up around him,

during the course of his time injured

over the past few weeks.

If he

could come back to full strength and the rest of the defense plays just as well, this is going to be an incredible lakes defense over the course of the rest of this season.

Well the season has continued to be fantastic for you so far.

You're still undefeated now at 6-0.

You had a 44 to 27 win two weeks ago here against Powers North Central and a 58 to 16 win on the road against Rapid River.

Are there any key aspects of the game that have really impressed you coming out of the players of the course of the season just like something they've stepped into or developed over the course of the year that really speaks out to you?

I've been impressed with their ability to just double down.

You know, they've been pretty steady through the year with their commitment to everything that we're doing.

And, you know, even at times where there's a lot of preparation that goes into this, I've gotten tired, you know, and as I look at them, I don't really think they're tired at all.

You know, we, we warn them of

Obviously the the things that happen when you keep winning games.

There's more pressure.

I'm not so sure they feel that they just want to play football They they love the game they like playing for each other and so I've been really proud of that

All right, and taking a look at the flip side of that I mean obviously no team is perfect But are there any key aspects of your game?

You're really hoping to shape up as the regular season wraps up and postseason football looms for you

I would say every aspect of our game could be better and even as as the coaching staff sits together, you know

If you sat with us on a Sunday into a Monday, we're doing nothing right.

You know, there's so many things that we could do better.

Our inside run game our defensive backs are sloppy at times Our quarterback is not faking all that efficiently at times There's things that could get a lot better and I keep telling the guys you know eventually if we make some of these mistakes It could cost us if we're playing a team.

That's you know playing their a game that day.

So we're trying to improve on everything We like the drills we run every week at practice and we're trying to get better at the little things And we're trying to just advance as the season goes on and getting more elaborate offensively showing

teams different looks defensively.

So

yeah.

And a key part of both sides of the ball for you has been Josh Davatella who lines up so full back very often on offense.

He's usually a middle linebacker or edge rusher for you on defense.

He's been playing through an injury the past couple of games we've been able to cover for you here at home.

So is he still doing okay?

Are you thinking that he's back to at least near 100% for you?

Yeah, and against Rapid River, he had said pre-game, this is the best I've felt.

Week two, you know, first play of the game, he sprained his ankle.

And I don't know if you've ever sprained your ankle, but it is very painful.

It seems like kind of a minor thing sometimes, you know, you talk about like a fracture, something like that.

But a sprain can be very debilitating, and for him, he's dealt with it for a couple years, you know, just recurrent sprains, so...

He's feeling good again.

He's a key piece to what we do offensively and defensively.

So it's good to finally get him back.

You know, we've kind of been asking other guys to step up to fill his role.

So that's been tough on us.

But now hopefully those guys that did step up can now serve another role.

You know, they can rise up and be a little bit better.

But my large Josh is, you know, he's a huge player for us.

He's worked his tail off for this senior year.

He's been playing for us since freshman year.

So there's nothing that's going to stop him.

He'll keep trying even if he is

in pain, so we're not really worried

about that.

And finally, you have the Forest Park Trojans coming to town here.

They're sitting at 5-1-1 right now.

They're always one of the top teams in the UP for 8-on-8 football.

What have you learned to expect from the Trojans in all the matchups you've seen them with over the years, and how are you hoping to keep your undefeated record after this week?

Yeah, a lot of the things that I say about North Central, they apply to Crystal Falls.

They're smart.

Their kids are football kids.

They're athletic.

They have the Giuliani brothers that are fast, athletic.

tall, they make plays.

Um, Dax Hook, he's been a little bit banged up with his knee, but, you know, he's been fighting through it kind of the way that Josh is.

And then the Bennett kid that stepped in at tailback has done a really nice job.

So we know that their coaching staff is, you know, some of, some of the best coaching you're going to see in the state of Michigan.

They know what they're doing.

They know what the plan of attack is.

They know what our weaknesses are.

Um, we're just looking to hopefully play our best game.

So taking a look at your season so far, you're sitting at 5-1 overall.

You're coming off of two big wins in the past two weeks at home.

You beat Norway 34-26 last week, week before that, a shootout at home for you beating Feltgenorth Dickinson by a score of 59-52.

How are you feeling about your team's performance in those two big wins?

I feel very good at that.

In our Dickinson game, we put together three and a half quarters, let them storm back in the fourth, but we made enough plays to keep that one all to reach from them.

And in our Dickinson at that,

played a Norway I thought we played a complete game so happy with the kids it was kind of a big win for us knowing that this this one was on deck here Ironwood and then North Central the end of the year so we really felt like we had to get that Norway game as well

yeah it's fair and your loan loss so far has been a week four against the Ishweming hematites it was a great game by Ishweming but what did you learn that you needed to shape up on in that game

to get ready for the rest of your regular season?

Sometimes they say a loss is the best thing for a team especially in the middle of a season or in the regular

season so it's not the pole season so you still have another chance.

Definitely showed us we had to show up our line play.

It should be in control of the line of scrimmage from the onset to the end of the game and they didn't make any mistakes and it was it was tough for us to do anything against them you know a couple turnovers and they played mistakes free football.

So it showed us that we have a lot to work on which we've improved since that game and to keep us level headed and it's week by week no matter what but definitely got to improve the line play and

And it was good to play in a big game and for the kids to get that experience.

And Vic Giuliani, your quarterback over the course of the season, he's been fantastic as a dual threat for you.

Are there any other players on your roster on either side of the ball that you think have really stepped up this year that you want to give some praise to?

Absolutely.

Vic coming back after missing his junior season has been...

Night and day, it changes our team.

Dax, who he missing last year, coming back this year.

Every time he touches the ball, he's on the field.

He's a threat where you have to know where he is.

You have to account for him, maybe a little more than the average player.

Then our lineman, Nick Stahovitz, the junior playing big minutes.

Brodie McBee playing big minutes.

Clay Williams playing big minutes.

As juniors this year, the last year, their sophomore is basically like a freshman season, getting thrown into the mix right away last year.

So good experience out of them.

And then Eli Bresnowski just, you know, being that three year starter for us, kind of anchoring our offense and defense align.

So a lot of good things there from a lot of players.

And Vic, Vic's a great kid.

He works his tail off, had multiple injuries he's came back from.

But every time we look at him, he's going to play and he wants to play.

And it's good to see as a coach.

All

right.

And finally, the Lakes are still undefeated this season.

6-0 so far.

What have you come to expect?

over the years from coach Dervay and this Lake Squad.

They're a solid squad.

Top to bottom of the roster.

They get their kids to play to their full potential.

No matter what they put on the field, it's going to be a good game.

They're not going to make mistakes.

They're going to run the football.

They're going to take advantage of the other team's weaknesses.

So nothing but respect for Coach Dervay and the whole Lakeland and football program.

It's been good forever, and it seems like.

And Forest Park's right there with them, but it's a

a great experience to come up here playing Saturday.

I played up here a couple times when I was in high school and it's just a cool atmosphere, a cool place to play, but it's going to be a hard-hitting football game.

Win, lose, or draw.

I think both teams are going to feel it afterwards.

And just a lot of pride, a lot of compassion is going to be on that field today.

High School Game of the Week on WMPL, our pregame show coverage continuing here from Warner Athletic Field in Lake Linden.

to see some high school football, especially in October on a beautiful, nice, warm day like this.

It ought to be a fantastic game, and we hope the weather can hold up and not get too hot for these players out on the field for this big week seven matchup.

Not very often that a game in the final third of your regular season is going to be the warmest game you play all year, but we are getting that up here for the Northern UP, especially in the Kewanaw 80 degrees in the middle of October.

Pretty dang hot, so we'll see if these teams can adapt and get used to the weather as it gets warmer here in Lake Linden.

Two teams that need a crucial win.

Fighting today.

A couple teams about 15 miles south of here in Houghton are putting on a show right now.

Halftime in the Grand Valley State at Michigan Tech game over in Curly Stadium.

Michigan Tech leading 21 to 14 at the half.

That's a pretty impressive start through 30 minutes of play for the Huskies in this one.

I believe it's Alex Bueno and Elliott Larner splitting time at quarterback today.

Apparently Larner was banged up a little bit in the game last week against Roosevelt.

That's why Bueno took the majority of the snaps.

But now I'd expect to be a little bit closer to 50-50 as the two quarterbacks try to carry the Huskies through a very strong number six ranked Grand Valley State team.

We'll see if they can hold that lead for the last 30 minutes of regulation.

The Trojans come into Week 7 after a big win at home last week against Norway.

Forest Park is ranked number three in the UP 8-man football poll now posting a 5-1 overall record and our 4-1 at conference play as well.

Having posted their other victories over Antonogon, Municing, Gokibik and North Dickinson.

The Trojans are coached by head coach Brian Fabri and assisted by Gerard Valisano, Dan Naserini, Evan Hedkey and Riley Hendrickson.

The Lakes are entering today's contest with an unblemished 6-0 record and are currently ranked first in the U.P.

8-man poll and remain fourth in the State Division 2 rankings.

The Lakes posted a big win on the road last week against Rapid River.

The Lakes' other wins have been against Ishmoving, Ironwood, Munising, Norway, and North Central.
