What do you say we try this again?

Michigan Tech in Minnesota did not play last night as I'm sure you are aware.

Huskies and the Gophers were all set to play, did their warm-ups, but the game was postponed due to poor ice conditions for a few minutes and then an hour and then an hour and a half.

And ultimately the players' safety concerns forced a full postponement of the game, which has now been moved to tomorrow, Sunday at 3.07.

So tonight's game, originally scheduled for 6.07,

has been moved up to a 407 start, and that is why we are talking to you right now.

So we don't have any recap from last night's game because it did not happen.

It disappointed 4,000 fans and ended up having to go home a little bit early after waiting around for about an hour and a half to see if they were going to be able to play.

But again, they weren't.

And now we're looking at a Saturday Sunday series here on Mix 93 WKMJ.

pregame for you, even though we did not have a game last night.

We'll have talk to head coach Bill McCult.

He's been here two years already You mean only only had that one year last year coming off that injury in the freshman year Tyler I guess before we start this game here this afternoon What was it like for you the ongoing delays and then the ultimate postponement of last night's game?

Yeah, obviously it's a little frustrating But I mean it's just a little bit of adversity and we're gonna be playing tonight So we're all excited and just gotta wait one more day to play the first game.

Hey, I was talking to coach it had to be different

for you guys getting so pumped up for this first game against you know a team like Minnesota here in our barn 4,000 people.

Yeah we were definitely pretty pumped up like everyone was feeling good like we just wanted to play regardless of the A-surface but I guess player safety is more important so here we are today.

As always we mentioned you

didn't play hardly at all your freshman year because of injury.

Last year you're a huge part of this program.

Can you talk about your development from

last year to where you're at right now going into this first game?

Yeah I just think it's taking

taking it day by day and trying to get better every single day in practice and looking up to players, watching professional league and just coming and showing up every day to get better.

And what

about this defensive core unit that you guys have?

You had a good one last year.

A couple of guys moved on.

Talk about this year's group.

Yeah, we got some new recruits here this year and they're strong and they picked up on the system real quick and I'm excited to see what we got tonight.

You got your first career goal against these gophers last

year.

Welcome back to the John McGinnis Student Ice Freedom.

If you're just tuning in and wondering why we're on the air now and not aware of what went on last night, I'll let you know.

The Huskies and the Gophers did not play last night due to poor ice conditions.

Last night's game was postponed to Sunday and so tonight's game was moved up a couple of hours to a 407 start and that's why we are

here.

We're at the John McGinnis student ice arena getting ready for that big match up here tonight.

So let's take a look at the out of town scoreboard.

Games that did go on last night and there was a big win for the Northern Michigan Wildcats.

They go 1-0 on the season with a

3-0 victory over the Miami Redhawks.

It was costar done with a short handed goal in the second.

A power play goal by Derek Olson late in the second.

And Ian Ingle got a power play

goal late in the third period.

The Wildcats go on to the shutout against Miami.

Shots on goal, though Miami 30 to 19, favorite in that category.

But the Wildcats were really good on special teams, stopping Miami all six times.

and the Wildcats with those two power play goals.

So they win by a score of three to nothing.

Northern Michigan and Miami will play at 6-0-7 tonight down at the Berry Events Center.

It was not a good night for the Ferris State Bulldogs out of conference.

They took on Canisius, a four-nothing victory for Canisius.

They scored two goals in the first, two in the second, and that's all they would need.

Shot on goal in that game were even though Ferris State 23, Canisius 23, but the Bulldogs start the season 0 and 1.

Those two teams will play again tonight.

Tough night for the Bowling Green Falcons against the Michigan Wolverines.

Wolverines is one of the top teams in the nation.

This was at Yoast Ice Arena last night, a 7-2 final in favor of Michigan.

It was a 1-1 tie until the 4-30 mark of the second period.

Cole McKinney for Michigan started a big scoring burst for the

Wolverines, that made it two to one.

Wolverines then scored at the 6-44 mark of the second and then at the 12-19 mark of the second and made it 4-1 going into the third period.

They tacked on three more.

The Falcons were able to add one more to make it a 7-2 final in favor of Michigan.

Those two teams will switch venues tonight.

Michigan will travel to Bowling Green at Slater Family Icerita.

That game is slated for a 6-07 drop of the puck.

Of course, a lot of talk about Arizona State leading up to the first weekend of hockey.

They travel

to Lindenwood and beat Lindenwood by

a score of five to nothing.

Minnesota Duluth over Long Island seven to four.

Wisconsin doubled up on Robert Morris four to two and the defending national champs Denver defeated Alaska

Anchorage by a score of six to two.

Boston University in overtime defeated Alaska two to one.

It was Quinnipiac over UNH 10 to two.

Those are some other scores from last night's game.

One league game between all of the conferences.

It was Atlantic Hockey and Niagara defeating

RIT by a score of 4-1.

In exhibition play, which we see a lot of in that first or second weekend of play, Minnesota State defeated Ben Etobo by a score of 3-1.

Michigan State over Boston College 5-2.

And also in exhibition play, the Lakers of Lake Superior State University tied 2-2 against Windsor.

Besides the games we

already told you about going on tonight, Bemidji State will be hosting at St.

Cloud State University, Tom

Saratori, beginning his final season as the head coach of the Beaver.

as he announced during the pre-season

that he would retire after this his 26th year.

You know, especially to start the season, excitement, like the crowd.

Everybody, you could just feel the buzz in the Mac.

I'm sure it'll be a great environment here again tonight and looking forward

forward to getting this season kicked off and obviously they're really quality opponent.

I'm going to be a well coached team, so I'm looking forward to it.

You know, knock on wood as long as everybody is healthy.

We'll go with the same lineup, but I like the depth on this team.

I like this group.

I have confidence in everyone.

Obviously there's tough decisions, but you know, we're going to need everybody, so we got to start somewhere and messages simple.

How was it for you without getting into details as far as there was a delay and then another delay?

How were you relating to the team and how was the team relating to you?

Well, that's actually a great question.

We were playing in 1996 in the Frozen Four in Cincinnati, Ohio, and we were playing Boston University, of course.

It was in Michigan, and the rink attendant drilled into the freon pipe and the ice.

We were the second game.

I think it was Marty St.

Louis was playing at Vermont against Colorado College, and Don Luchia would have been the coach of Colorado College, our league commissioner, and they drilled into it.

and you know the game got delayed an hour and a half but we went out and we put it on a really good Boston University team with like Mike Greer and Chris Jury so I kind of was relaying that to the team and talking about that but I guess it really did get delayed last night.

Well coach we're ready to go today hopefully and looking forward to it thanks for your time and good luck against this team.

Last night's game was postponed, well documented over the last 23-21 hours or however long it's been.

It does not feel like we left this building at all.

It's been a long night and a long morning and a long afternoon, but we cannot wait for the puck to drop here, and that is what's going to take place.

It looks like.

Phil, nice to have you back for another season here up at the Bob Olson Media Center getting ready for some Husky hockey tonight against the 14th ranked Gophers.

Yeah, you said it, Derrick.

Everyone is so excited for Husky hockey and everyone that was in the building last night.

Accidents happen or whatever happened with the ice but certainly So much excitement in the building and I would expect that tonight.

It's gonna be even more

You know a huge crowd last night 4,000 people in the building had to go home disappointed But there's still gonna be a big crowd here tonight pretty much a sellout again here Saturday night at the Mac tomorrow's game will be a 307 drop of the puck to make up for last night's game But both teams I mean just talking to some of the players down there, and I know you have been too Phil I mean they

can't wait to just play another team.

Yeah, certainly.

And you know, there's so many, you know, there's new faces and these guys have, you have to remember they've been in camp since school started and working so hard to, you know, just get prepared to play the game and the game arrives and then, you know, they have to wait that one more day, but.

So be it.

I'm super excited.

Both teams are absolutely loaded in talent, and it's going to be a lot of

fun.

Yeah, you obviously played at this level, Phil.

Look at these two squads.

I mean, one has 15 draft picks.

The other one has four.

But we all know that doesn't necessarily translate to wins and losses at this level.

But it does mean a lot.

But the Huskies have talent that maybe aren't the draft pick type of players.

So much talent on this Minnesota team, though.

Yeah, for sure.

You mentioned it, 15 draft picks.

One of them, you know, on the top.

10 with Cullen so you know they're they're loaded and but tech like you said they're they're a little bit more they have more age maybe a little bit more experience playing junior hockey a lot of guys that are here out of the Canadian Hockey League that are gonna bring a wealth of experience to this program so I would you know it could be anyone's game tonight.

Well you've watched this team over the years you've seen enough Minnesota hockey over the years as well Phil and you know so much pride with these two programs and Huskies were able to

get a game last last season down there and I'm sure the guys that are on the Gophers team remembered that game quite well in front of their fans and won a little revenge here tonight it had to be delayed a game before the Huskies and the Gophers play but this should really be a good fight clean fight between two good schools

yeah like you mentioned last year going into that first game with Minnesota new coach

Not knowing how Bill's team is going to play, what style of play, what players they had.

There were so many new faces and they came out and just played two really spectacular hockey games.

Could have really won both of them in my opinion, but they came out with the split.

I think tonight's going to be the same.
