As young as the coach of the Ithaca volleyball team, I spoke with her this week about the team and how it's going this season.

I think our team is actually starting to build.

We had a rough start to the season.

Things were circumstances out of our control, but things were real challenging for a while.

And I really feel like the girls are starting to build some momentum.

here as we go on in this season.

We just were at Scholesburg on Saturday at a tournament there, and I was really pleased with how the girls performed there.

We were the only D5 school in that tournament, and they played really well.

So I'm hoping we can continue to build on that, and we have three home games this week, so I'm really hoping it'll be a great week for us.

Right, you have a lot of things to play, and a lot of things to play for here as you get down towards seeding, which right now is not that far away, is it?

No, no, it's really crazy because a week ago I would have said we were, you know, not even a fourth of the way through our season.

And then, you know, when you think about it in a couple of weeks, the regular season will be done.

So that is kind of the craziness of volleyball season.

It's a lot of games, really short season.

And yeah, we'll be stepping into those seedings before we know it here.

Who is winning the Regent Valley Conference so far this year?

right now Seneca and DeSoto are both undefeated at this time so it'll be interesting to see I believe they see each other this week so it'll be interesting to see which one of them comes out on top but yeah those would be the two top contenders in the conference right now.

Who are the

leaders for the Bulldogs this year Angie?

Well I

I have to say our seniors, I have five seniors this year and they've just done a phenomenal job this season.

It's been a real challenging season for us.

A lot of things that you just can't predict having to deal with in a season and our seniors have just really stepped up and been the glue for our teams, for our varsity and JV team and just really our program this year in the high school level.

I think that's Keeley Manning, Nyla Lorenzo, Aubrey Imhaf, JC Maxwell, and Brinley Wanlos.

And I just cannot say enough good things about them.

They have really worked hard and they show up and they put in the work and they've just been great role models for everyone.

So I definitely think our seniors have just done a great job of helping to carry the team through some very difficult days this

season.

I spoke earlier this week with Angie Young about tonight's opponent, LaFarge.

We did see LaFarge at a quad a couple weeks ago and we did beat them.

They did get one set from us.

We were having some struggles that night, but

I'm really hoping it'll be a felony.

I've honestly been pretty impressed with the fars this season.

I think this is the strongest of the fars team I've seen them have in several years.

So they're very scrappy.

They are not afraid to attack the ball.

So you have to be on your toes, playing them and just be ready for it.

They've definitely improved greatly since the past two seasons.

What are some things that bulldogs need to improve upon here as you get down the stretch?

I think just really continuing to build that momentum and really, really pushing themselves now.

We're getting to a very good spot right now.

Just not holding back and attacking that ball.

We have some very strong players.

And just that consistency and really being able to attack our defense has been doing a great job this weekend.

Our defense had a really good day at the tournament on Saturday.

against some very strong hitting teams.

So that was wonderful.

And I think just to really continue to fail at this point to build upon that.

And hopefully when we kind of head into the second half of our season here, we can see some improvement and get some more wins on our record.

And in terms of younger groups and numbers, how does the program look this year?

We look pretty stable.

We, you know, losing five seniors is never ideal for a small school like ours.

But we will bring in, right now we have some decent middle school numbers.

So our numbers should continue to maintain where they're at.

We don't have huge numbers, of course.

But I will continue to maintain a varsity and a JV team.

And I'm really hoping that as time goes on here, we can continue to build some interest in some of our younger

girls in the elementary school and really start getting them more connected to the volleyball program earlier.

Awesome.

Good to talk, Angie, and good luck the rest of the way this year.

Thank you so much.

From Ithaca High School, hello everyone.

Welcome to tonight's broadcast in the Ridge and Valley matchup between the Ithaca Bulldogs and LeFarge Wildcats.

LeFarge comes in with a record of 1 and 7 under Allison Benson's leadership and coach now for her 15th season for LeFarge.

And Angie Young head coach from Ithaca and in her fourth year of coaching the Bulldogs.

Having had some success

Winning the conference title for the first year ever, back in 2024, and making it to the sectional semi-final.

Since that time, the team has played pretty well last year, but lost lots of graduation the previous year.

This year, as mentioned, they've struggled a little bit, but trying to get back on the winning track, they had a three sets to two loss to Kickapoo last night, so a very tough one in a makeup match.

For the Farge, they have not played since last week, so well rested coming into the match tonight.

And we shall see if that is any factor or there's anything to do with that here tonight.

And in terms of the JV match, you have like a one, three sets to none in the early meeting of this evening.

Action coming your way tonight, courtesy of our sponsors, including Raise, Do-It-Best Center, and Rockwell Automation.

We'll be giving you some starting lineups in just a little bit courtesy of LMM salvage Brought to you by LMM salvage every wing team needs the right parts We will share those lineups with you in just a little bit good crowd on hand tonight for the action tonight Trent Urban the athletic director getting us all set up and ready to go for the Bulldogs they'll have another game coming up on Thursday and then a home match against Seneca next week right now our national end

Here are the starters for Lafarge, the Wildcats starting number one, Alicia Wurz, a sophomore.

Number two, Reese Nordin, a freshman.

Number 11, Addie Hansen, a senior.

Lafarge to our right, Ithaca to our left here this evening.

And forgive me, I have a tendency to want to say Ithaca-Weston now, since we've said that with football and softball and other sports, but Ithaca and Weston are their own entities during the volleyball season.

And so that is the case.

The only sport not co-op now would be

volleyball and boys basketball I believe and baseball there we go so those sports but otherwise getting kind of used to saying Ithaca Weston or Weston Ithaca Ithaca will serve Aubrey Imhoff the senior takes the nod and gets the ball in the backcourt and this one is underway with the first serve played on the near side by LeFarge passed by Wurz back to the near side blocked by the Bulldogs blocked by LeFarge and LeFarge wins the battle

Josie Allen puts it down, and it is one to nothing.

Lafarge will serve, just almost the same, used to saying kick-a-boo Lafarge, but Lafarge, its own entity for volleyball.

Addie Hanson with the serve, fielded by the Bulldogs.

They'll set it up on the left side, taking a shot, and getting it down is, you pick up, nice shot on the left wing.

So getting it down was Brianna Lewis, Lewis.

Getting the start there on the front left.

And now it is a 1-1 ballgame.

Here comes the serve by Autumn McBane, played by LaFarge, set up on the near side, drives it down the line, and it is out of bounds.

Ithaca goes up by a score of 2-1.

Autumn McBane back to serve again, hits back by the back wall and gets the whistle for Ithaca.

Here's the serve.

Fielded by Lafarge, free ball to the left side, not able to make the pass or play the pass on the left side, Reese Nordine the closest, but it goes into the net and that makes it three to one.

Ithaca will serve again.

McBain starts by the back wall, here is the serve, cut off on the near side, push to the right, taking a shot is Lafarge.

Over the top for number two, Reese Nordine, and it goes down.

Tipped by the Bulldogs, that'll make it three to two.

Nordeen, a freshman, one of three freshmen that Coach Benson is working into the lineup this regular season and Reese will serve.

Steps up to the line and fires it far side and it is an ace and just like that we are tied.

The Nordeen gets a kill and now an ace responsible for two points in a row and goes back to serve again tied at three.

in the opener, best of five tonight at Ithaca.

Dordine steps up, there is the serve, far side played by Young, there is the set, over to the left side, tough one, blocked by LaFarge, and down it goes.

Bass was intended for J.C.

Maxwell, and getting up on the net was Riley Benson making the play, and LaFarge takes a lead of four to three.

Dordine will serve.

This one brought down the middle, young with the pass.

There comes the quick set by Imhof.

Maxwell takes it, back roll, LeFarge makes the play.

Back to the front line, dropping it over and getting it in.

Is Josie Allen, that makes it 5-3.

Josie Allen getting the point for LeFarge and Nordeen will keep serving.

5-3 Wildcats in the opener.

Here's the serve, young with a quick pass.

Imhoff to the left side, Maxwell knuckles it down the middle, dug there by Wurz, back to Nordeen, now taking the shot as Wurz, it's going to be Ithaca called for being in the net.

And LaFarge goes up 6-3 here on the opener, and Angie Young wants a timeout for Ithaca.

LaFarge starts out with a 6-3 lead.

We'll be back with more in one minute from WRCO and wrco.com.

There is the serve.

Pumbles it to the back row, fielded by Fowle.

Back to the right side.

Backed up by Ithaca to the back row and now knocked over by McBain.

Set up now to the left side in the middle shot into the net by Allen.

And Ithaca has pulled within 1 point.

It is 7-6.

Brinley-Wonlis will serve for Ithaca, backs up near the back wall.

Here's the run-up in the left-handed serve, cut off now by Foul, back to the middle, and a tough pass into the net for Wurz to try and field, and just like that, Ithaca has tied it up.

They have scored four in a row now, 7-7 here in the opening set at Ithaca in the best of five.

Brinley-Wonlis

with the run up and here's the serve.

That one's going to drop in for Ace.

And Ithaca takes the lead at 8-7, friendly with a second ace here in the opener.

And that's giving the Bulldogs a little bit of momentum now.

Taking that away from the Farge after the timeout.

Here's the serve, fielded by Wurz, back to the middle and now blocked by Manning and down it goes.

Kaylee Manning enforcing there in the middle that makes it

9-7.

And Wanlis will keep serving.

Ithaca leading by two in the opener.

Wanlis with the run up, drives it far side.

Cut off now by Hanson, back to the middle.

Benson knuckles it over.

And that'll make it 10-7.

And now Coach Benson wants a timeout for Lafarge.

Ithaca has run off seven points in a row.

We'll be back in 30 seconds with more from WRCO and WRCO.com.

Ball of the left side, Maxwell tries again, drives it over.

Good dig back row by LaFarge.

Pass to the near side by Wertz.

Knuckled over there by Nordeen.

Now Ithaca will set it up again for Maxwell, drives it back row, fielded by LaFarge.

Back to the middle, shot by Allen, got it down.

Josie Allen turns the tide after the vast volley of the night, and that makes it 10-8.

And now Alan, after getting the point, the junior goes back to serve.

Lafarge to Ithaca with a serve.

Young will field it, sets it up near side.

Ithaca is now driving it over his manning.

Back roll played by Lafarge.

He'll get it over on the hit by Benson and got it down.

Lafarge is within one.

It is 10-9.

It's amazing what these timeouts will do.

Ithaca could do no wrong, seven straight points.

And now Lafarge has scored.

Total of...

What is it?

Three straight and make it, nope, gonna be only three straight as that serve drops out of bounds.

Ithaca let it go and that'll be a point and a side out for the Bulldogs.

Dairyland Transportation is proud to salute all high school athletes with the Dairyland Transportation High School Sports Update.

The season is racing along pun intended for the cross country teams around Wisconsin, including Richland Center Ithacup.

I talked to Coach Eric Mindum about his team's appearance this past weekend in the Fenimore Golden Relays.

Overall, it ran pretty well.

It's a tough course.

Lots of hills.

They're smaller races.

They run it a bit unique in that each team designates their number one through seven runners, and you run with that group.

So it's a smaller race, so it's really tough mentally.

But overall, I thought we ran pretty well.

When is your next meet, Eric?

Yeah, coming Saturday, we raced down in Platteville.

It's an early bus time.

But we're excited to get down there.

It's great competition.

It's probably the last.

sectional like atmosphere for us.

We race against a lot of the top ring schools in the area, so that'll be a great test for us.

Good luck to the Richland Center Ithaca cross country teams in their next outing coming up at Platteville on Saturday and we're just a few weeks away from the conference and the sectional meets.

That's it for the Dairyland Transportation High School Sports Update.
