High School Volleyball: Prairie du Chien vs. River Valley

Welcome to the Pine River Report.

Always a good time, never a dull moment.

Marty Riches is in.

How are things on the river this weekend?

Well, they're not as plentiful as it was last weekend.

So yeah, we had some high water, some rough seas, my friend.

but that water's gotten down to a good level, manageable level.

We're kind of in that same, same range we were in.

And that is the, that route from Rockbridge down to County SR, the, the steamboat rock landing that.

appears to be in good condition.

Not great, but good condition.

The rest is an adventure.

You know, anything south of the county SR landing or steamboat rock landing, it's kind of on your own risk.

You know, you kind of have to be your own search party, I guess I would say.

And honestly, the portages are rough too.

So I mean, even to venture that right now, I think is not a great idea.

We need to get down through there.

Sometimes floodwater can help us out a little bit.

Unfortunately that flood water wasn't a big one that cleans everything out.

It usually just helps to gather more stuff where the blockage already was and then that just creates more work.

So we do need to check those out.

We are working on some of the major blockages that we had but it's still still good to go.

uh, from rock bridge down to that county.

Yes, our steamboat rock landing.

And this time of year, when the color start changing that, we start to see a little bit of increased traffic during, you know, about a two week timeframe where, where that's a really enjoyable paddle and a really nice view to take a look at.

Well, weather wise, it should be a good weekend to hit the river a

lot better than last weekend.

Yeah.

We're not worried about getting floated away out of the river.

And yeah, the weather is actually a little cooler, but drier.

and looks like that could be real enjoyable for the weekend and for the weekend events.

But the weather is cooler and that does bring us to a time of year that I hate to talk about.

And that is the old Dario.

They are getting short in their season.

So if you have not gotten your fill of Giro's or they do a Chicago hotdog that's awesome or ice cream items, of course, they've got at least one more week in them, they say, at least through Friday, October 2nd.

But I do know they like to run their inventory out.

So you may show up later in the week.

And they may be out of your favorite.

So don't wait if you want something specific.

I'd run to the Dario.

They have ski too.

They do have ski.

You have dads are up here, too.

Oh, do they?

Well, okay.

I remember right.

I can't get past the skis.

Yeah.

And then also tonight, Discover Driflus has pretty pretty cool events on tap.

They've got music from Martin Hunt Treeman and or Martin Hunt.

He's on the Discover stage.

That starts at five o'clock this evening and then Thai food.

So do you like?

I do.

And I've heard good things about this food truck.

Yep 1,000 mix Thai cuisine food truck will be there and I have had it is I'm Thai I'll have to be honest Thai is not my favorite, but

As you look at me, I like all food.

And I have had theirs, and it is.

It's very good.

I don't like spicy things, but you can find things that aren't spicy.

Oh,

yeah.

That's a, you know, we've traveled, my wife and I, Terry, and I have traveled quite a bit.

And people immediately think, oh, this is spicy if you just eat that.

kind of food and that's not true.

Especially if you're traveling and they see the Americans from Wisconsin show up, they're like, okay, these guys, we don't want to kill them.

And so they're not making things quite as spicy as what they normally would.

They did that for us in Korea.

They figured it out right away.

They're like, I think we better back off on the spice on this one just a little bit.

And this weekend's big for the Hill and Valley Exploration Tour, second week of it.

Again, everything I'm telling you about

and specifically the Hill and Valley Exploration Tour.

They got 21 stops, a lot of information to learn about how you plot to you know your tour to get the most out of it.

We have a family joke in our family now that I was one of the assistant coaches on the 1986 Hall of Fame, I think a Bulldog football team now.

And then also, don't forget, the 80 German warehouse has their tours on Sunday as well.

Every Sunday here through September and then in October that they do at the last, the first weekend in October.

and then they wrap them up for the season but this Sunday you could enjoy a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright warehouse and it is really interesting there's there's a lot of legend and just interesting things there and then the last thing I'll say Phil we are taking registration still if you want to enter your business your civic group your collector

A piece of story and a lot of dedication and passion and an incredible commitment to students, athletes, and our community.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Lisa graduated from Benson High School in 1984 and went on to earn her degree from the University of Wisconsin Flatbills in 1988.

She later earned her master's degree

from UW La Crosse in 1995.

Lisa dedicated an amazing 34 years to teaching by Adam Almedd for the Valley Night School.

Lisa spent six years coaching J.D.

Jerome Volleyball, two years coaching Mill School Magic Ball.

She served as an assistant volleyball coach at UW La Crosse.

and spent four years as the head coach at UW Richland.

She also coached River Valley Track and Field for 17 years.

But perhaps her greatest legacy was filled on the River Valley Wildabout Board, where she served as varsity coach for 22 years, compiling an impressive 587 and 219 record.

During that time, her team won seven conference championships.

five regional titles, a sectional title, and finished as big runner-up in 2005.

Lisa was also named Conference Coach of the Year eight times, and was inducted into the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association all the way into 2021.

Lisa created opportunities for young athletes from volleyball camps and leagues, provided individual developmental training, and helped develop the Denise King Memorial Fitness Trail.

And of course about half the crowd probably is former players, so very nice tribute to a coach that.

that we worked with a lot over the years not only here River Valley but starting her coaching career at the collegiate level locally at UW Richland.

She was then Lisa White and we worked with her a lot when she was the head volleyball coach at the Richland campus and then coming down here and assisting with Kathy Kenny's program and then taking over as head coach and of course.

had lots of success, including the run to state back in the year of 19.
