High School Sports · Fri Sep 4, 2026

in pre-game show.

We've got the Copper Island Academy of Calumet kicking off the Ansonog and Gladiers.

I'm joined by Cole Kinn.

Say hi, real quick, Cole.

How is it going?

It's going good.

I'll try to do the pre-game as they're doing the opening kick here.

We're at Ansonog and tonight, the Gladiers are going to host the Calumet Copper Island Academy Eagles.

And the first kick is up is a swiver off to the left-hand side.

Glad's going from left to right.

There's Majur in picking it up, heading out to his right.

And he's going to be knocked out of bounds at about the 42-yard line.

What'll be first in 10 gladiators?

Now to try to do the pregame spiel as quick as I can here, the Calumet Copper Island Academy is a charter school that was founded in 2020.

They've had their athletic program since the school opened, including JV football.

This is their first varsity football season and only their second ever varsity game.

They lost last week on the road to Brimley by a score of 36 to nothing.

But Brimley is a decent squad.

They went four and five last year.

Now the Glads are going to line up.

Looks like a shotgun formation.

We'll do the starting lineup.

If I was presented by Al's Otto soon too, we got Brayden Buzzo.

We'll be in a shotgun set.

Looks like Colt, that's Baboula in motion to his left.

Baboula back to pass as Buzzo throws deep left hand style.

He's got Baboula, but it's knocked away.

Nice defensive play.

That's by number 23.

Here are the Kiamet Eagles team.

That's Stanley Kangus.

The coach told me he has to play good tonight.

Back to our pregame.

The Glad's first game didn't go quite as planned.

Crystal came in here and won pretty easily 44 to 6.

I did see some good things last game.

Those are Glad's.

Their tackling was very good.

Junior Clayton Kinn sat out the first quarter of the game and he was greatly missed.

He caused a turnover and also helped cause another turnover.

He had an interception off one of his passes.

I formation now.

It's the give to the right hand side.

I think that's Babula it is.

He goes literally nowhere.

It's going to be third down and long.

All right, Ken also had a handful of tackle.

Senior Ryan Holmstrom played well from his middle linebacker position as well.

Overall, the Glads tackling was solid.

However, their offense just wasn't able to do a whole lot.

They only got a handful of first downs.

They did have a 45-yard or a 75-yard touchdown run by Junior running back, Roti Babula.

He has to be productive for this offense to get going, so I expected him to get the ball probably 20 times this evening.

Now, the Glads are coming up here for a third down.

It looks like 10.

We've got 11 minutes to go, opening quarter, buzzle in the shotgun.

He's got Babool in motion.

It's a give to Babool up a pitch up the left-hand side, cuts it up.

Now that's kind of room there.

Oh, and I believe he's fumbled.

He has, and it's recovered by the Eagles.

And there's a turnover right away by the Gladiators.

Tough way to start your first

rock.

And now we're leading to that.

All right, now look at Cole in this.

Can the Gladiators bounce back?

And what do they need to do to get this offense moving?

I'm going to guess not turn a ball over because it starts.

That would be a good start.

But I believe they can bounce back.

They did show that.

They can play well in the last game.

I

think they showed glimmers.

The Eagles are going to line up.

They've got a tight end on each side.

It looks like eye formation.

Their quarterback starting is Vince Haydenin.

And his brother Victor is their lead tailback number 10 and 11.

And there's the give to Haydenin right hand side.

Not much there.

And he's bowled over by several gladiators.

See if we can get some numbers for you there.

That's hard to see him.

Hersch maybe?

Give that tackle to her.

So I'm fine with that.

You're starting offense for the start with Copper Island since they have the ball.

Their quarterback number 10 is Vince Heinenin.

Victor plays running back.

His brother wears number 11.

Another running back is Stanley Kangus.

He's more of their fullback.

He wears number 23.

He's lined back at your lineup as fullback on this play.

Eye formation again.

Tight ends on both sides for the Eagles.

Give it to the tailback.

That is actually Kangus.

He's got a couple.

They'll set down a third down in five.

Good start defensively couple stops early on short run.

This is big here first third down of the game Try to do some more Alice Otto Bruce crossing starting line-ups here.

We had Kangus at running back Cullen Bergman number 54.

He's a guard 22 is Wade Cascola.

He's one of their ends along with Nolan Kipala Where's number 21 center is Dean Penelope and number 50 Calvin Anderson plays the other guy we have a

Quarterback is by himself, two wings to the left.

He's going to be a keeper for Hayden.

Oh, and he stuffed his number 35 on that tackle.

Cam Logan.

Cam Logan, good call.

You can lie in from

that side.

That was fun to watch.

Nice stick there.

It's going to bring out about 4,000, about 4,000 and five or six, depending where they spot that ball.

We've got nine and a half left opening quarter.

And before, forget, we have a first quarter sponsor.

And it's the Berglin Bay Bar they just joined this week.

It is a 4,000 and five, nine and a half here to go.

Early test as a defense.

Can you stop them?

Get off the field.

You know, I said the defense played decent up in spots last week.

It kind of forgives the offensive mistake as well.

It's, you know, they go on a drive and don't score anything.

Absolutely got eye formation.

Kangus at full.

Hating in a tail.

And it's a give.

No, it's not.

It's a keep, pass, top left hand side to Kangus.

That's a beautiful play.

And he's got a first all nice block on the edge there.

by number 21.

It's a gain to inside the 10.

There is a flag on the play.

We'll see what that is.

It's going to be a first down, I believe.

They're going to call a face mask there.

Is that what I'm hearing?

Referee is not called anything yet.

He did throw it at the spot.

Interesting.

It's got to be something on the tackle, wouldn't you think?

It was right where it kind of went out of bounds.

They've got the ball spotted at the nine yard line.

Right now it looks like first and goal.

They may have just picked that flag up than they have.

Might have been just to spot it.

I think you might be right on that one.

It looks like an I formation again.

Number 24 playing fullback.

That's Dwight Koskala.

Tailback is hinting at him.

His brother will take the snap momentarily.

Give it to the tailback.

Oh, and he stopped.

Number 12.

Hurst.

Just hurst again.

It's a nice play.

Came right through the middle.

Didn't have a lot of push-up thrown from...

I think,

you know, last game the glass line didn't play exceptionally well, but I think they're a little old man against Crystal.

This is a better matchup for them.

I expected to play better tonight.

Yeah, it's more of a size comparison.

You know, it's a better matchup there for the gladiator.

Absolutely.

Their line needs to be big tonight.

Second down and nine.

We're under eight and a half here to go.

They put it at the 10 yard line.

Check that in as it is and goal.

Shotgun formation eight and then back.

It's a direct snap to Kangus, but he's fumbled it, and he's going to go nowhere.

A lot of gladiators in the vicinity.

You can give credit to a lot of different guys there.

I'm going to give it to number 33.

It's going to be Ryan Holmstrom.

We'll get a cheapy tackle there.

He's one of several.

Eight minutes to go here.

I'm going to play.

Take advantage of it anyway.

This is an opportunity to get off the field here again.

Two down, 16 yards.

A win-third down.

Wait, you got a win-third.

He went outside at 10, which

would be good.

From the Eagles point of view, I'm looking for seven or eight yards here.

Yeah, that's a different contact.

You got to try to at least get half of this offensively here to make it way more manageable on goal.

What do we got here?

There is a timeout for the Copper Island Academy.

So why don't we finish our starting lineup?

So I have a chance.

Sorry, Southern Federal Credit.

We didn't get much of a pregame show.

We don't know much about the Calumet team anyway, so I guess no harm done.

But we do have a starting lineup for the glad eaters on offense.

They're going to start number three.

That's Brayden Buzzo.

He's a junior.

One running back is Brody Babula.

He's also a junior.

He wears number one.

Their full back is Ryan Holmstrom wearing number 33.

He's a senior.

Wide receiver number seven is Clayton Kin.

He's a junior.

Tight end is Cam Logie.

He wears number 35.

He's also a junior.

Their line is Logan Back.

He's a junior.

Connor Guzik wears 52.

He's a junior.

And the other guard is William Anderson wearing number 19 is another junior.

They really only have two seniors on the team.

Jacob Hurst, who's called his number a few times already, Ryan Holmstrom.

And we're back.

738 here to go opening quarter.

Again, sponsored by the Birdwin Bay Bar.

738 on the clock.

It will run as soon as the ball snaps.

Two wide receivers left hand side, hanging in the shotgun by himself.

Snap is good.

Looking left.

He's got time.

Now he's out of time.

Throws it to his right.

Nobody's home.

It's going to bring up fourth down.

Good pressure there by Hurst again, number 19.

DJ Anderson is Anderson my bad giving the wrong guy credit.

Good call.

Oh good Here's a swarm back there.

There's a couple

Good pressure.

I think last game we didn't see that a whole bunch.

So you didn't see a ton of pressure now Crystal's online did a very good job buying time and it seemed like a lot of their passes were kind of on you know fake motions and kind of eye candy

I love the like

the bootleg.

Yeah,

you know you fake the run to the right and wheel out to your left

And it works because when you sell it hard and when you gain eight yards running

it the

first time they're

running the ball helps Hated in his shotgun.

There's two wide receivers was right one man in motion.

That's Kangus They're gonna fake the handoff to Kangus got one guy wide open to his right inside over a good tackle And that's gonna be a turnover on downs.

Who we giving credit there to?

It is Bob is Bobula with the tackle And the gladiators will take over still zero zero seven twenty six good stop by the glad defense

I've seen a lot of green over there when he kind of started

kicking

out over there.

A pretty clever play, but it only got him 7.

They needed 16.

On a sort of bootleg type big jet

sweep.

Yeah, I bet you about a thousand dollars they'll run that sweep to Kangus at some point this game.

We've got an eye formation.

Babu is the tail back.

I'm assuming it's Holmstrom at fold.

Give us the tail back.

That's Bobu.

Left hand side with some room.

Breaks one tackle, gets to the line.

He's up near the first down.

He's going to get the first down.

Where he's knocked out of bounds or wrestled down, whatever it was, it's going to be first down gladiators.

You need to see more of that.

Up the gut.

Give him some room.

Give him a lane.

Let him try to find space.

All right, I got the word from the studio.

Turn it up just a little bit.

Thank you, Robbie.

7-18, first-first down for the Gladiators there.

They went a long way last week without getting one, so that's a great start already.

Way better than the first series.

Already off to a better start.

All right, here we go.

I formation again.

One wide receiver right-hand side is Kin.

Baboula is the tail back, assuming Holmstrom at full.

And it's going to be a give to Baboula right-hand side.

Not much there.

The Eagles held up well in that play.

Not a lot of help up front on that one.

Didn't get a lot of push.

Let's say probably one yard there.

It'd be second down and nine.

As we cross the seven-minute mark in the opening quarter, Ball's got about the 21-yard line of Onsenaga, and they're going from our left to our right.

Eagles, of course, going in the direction.

No score yet.

Didn't see a ton of eye formation last week from Onsenaga.

I think they came out and tried to run it a little bit.

It just didn't really work out, but they're off.

I suppose there's not a field enough to see a lot of it either, though.

Didn't get the biggest sample size.

Oh, here we go.

Eye formation again.

Kinsfoot out left.

It's going to be a give to Holmstrom up the middle, breaks one tackle, runs into a swarm.

He's going to have a gain of a couple.

It's going to be third down and long though.

Got to get

something here.

You make it fourth and one, you think about it, but... Yeah, this

end of the field.

Third down at eight is the situation.

I think you get seven, and maybe you think about it.

I don't know if the coach has thought processes there, and it depends.

Eight is about to decent last week, I think.

Five or less, you know, no question

about it.

All right, Buzzo under center, I formation.

He is going to be back to pass looking left-hand side.

He's got a man.

He's open with a nice catch there, 35.

He's low-key, and he has a nice 20-yard gain up outside the 40.

Great play.

I like that play.

That's it.

That play-action pass.

You just mentioned it a second ago, and there you go.

It's a first down gladiator.

There's your second on this drive.

And a

really smart play call, especially.

I mean, it's third and eight.

Who do you think the ball's going to?

I like the fact that the ball is a good move.

I mean, everybody thinks he's going to get the ball, right?

Yeah.

Five and a half here to go opening quarter.

This looks like he's going to be a shotgun set this time.

It is Holmstrom next to Buzzo.

Fuzzle is going to keep it left-hand side.

No, he's not.

There's going to be illegal something here.

The ref blows the whistle.

That's a false start.

And they're going to back it up five yards.

That's not what we're looking for in a first down there.

No.

I don't know.

Maybe Fuzzle is still kind of in motion.

You wonder, everybody's got to be set before somebody goes in motion.

I'm wondering if they were set before he did or not.

I don't know.

We can't hear the referee.

We just saw the signal.

and sometimes they're not always exactly what they call themselves.

I think five-year penalty is a five-year penalty.

Anyway, you call it.

Clock is ticking, 5.15 here to go.

Can't move before the ball.

It's a big one.

They spotted us, the 38-yard line.

It's first down at 15 as we approach five minutes.

Buzzel's in shotgun, Holmstrom is right.

Baboula is off to his left, he's in motion.

And it's a pitch to Baboula off the right-hand side.

Good containment there by number 50 off the Eagles and very minimal gain.

Ooh, and I see some fist cuts after the play there.

I like it.

Holmstrom getting into it.

With number 10 is the quarterback Vince Hayden in.

Not sure what that was about.

Difference of opinion.

I did see that really good edge set though by number 50.

That's that containment.

Calvin Anderson, he started that garden.

I never give him some credit.

That was a good defensive play.

Did a great job to steal the edge.

Didn't allow Brody to go anywhere.

Alright, we got 2nd down, 13, 420 to go here, opening quarter.

Fuzzles in shock on Holmstrom goes right, a bull in motion.

It's going to be a give to Holmstrom up the middle, nothing doing.

Nice tackling there by the Eagles.

Too much penetration again.

And I'd like to see a little bit of a different look there.

You know, you only run for a yard on the last play, so going back to the very same Cree snap, I don't love Cree snap.

You don't see that, I have formation a little bit more maybe.

Give it to him.

Let him rip up the gut.

All right.

We got third down of 13 under four to go here opening quarter.

There is no score The Copper Island Academy of Calumet against the Astonoggin you and show Creek waters me gladiator puzzle under center I formation he's back to pass looking left got his man That's kid already dropped it at the first down marker.

That was a nice play

Yeah,

I don't know everything with a catch.

Yeah

Yeah,

I don't beat you

Yes, he did.

He was

decent coverage, but he did have a step on him across.

Oh, he knows it.

He'll hear about it later in the right call.

He will.

I like the execution.

He's got to catch it.

That's a great play call.

They run the slam.

It was there.

Nice throw by Buzzo.

It was a

really nice throw.

And he had time.

He had a little bit of time to set up and let it swing.

All right, here we go.

It's going to be a punt.

Looks like Amos is back there.

335 to go, 4th and 13, and they are going to punt.

It's not bad.

It's going to go right hand side, not a bound.

Probably about the 35 yard line.

We'll see where they mark this.

Looks like they agree.

Right at the 35 yard line.

And while we have just a moment, there's no score.

I'll do some of the live reads.

I've got 906 services around Finoggan, Alzado, Bruce Crossing, Big Valley 4, Valley 4, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ewan along with Citizens Day Bank on Finoggan.

Shameless plug as well.

Labor Day weekend.

It'll be selling 50-50 tickets all weekend.

Make sure you buy some support or Labor Day fest.

All right, here we go.

Shotgun set.

This is Calumet.

Give us to the left-hand side.

That's Hayden, and he's got a few before he's knocked over.

He's got probably two or three yards.

Cooper Moylan in on the tackle.

I believe he's got that right.

Moylan with a nice play.

Not a real big guy, but he's playing inside and he's made some really nice plays through these first few games so far.

He's getting in there.

I thought he played spot duty at quarterback last week, and I think he did fine.

Yeah.

Especially for backup duty.

It was not

the issue offensively really was the quarterback being taken out.

Our guy formation here again.

Balance formation by Calumet.

Give his left hand side.

That's Kangus, only a couple.

What do you got there 35?

I'm going to give credit to is logy.

Good call.

Good job cutting up inside getting arms on the guy.

You got that third six.

I think the tackling this year has been very good.

So through the first, you know, five quarters so far it has been.

We've got two and a half left now, third and five.

Kind of a methodical game here so far.

I feel like we got a pretty even matchup tonight is what it looks like so far to me.

Calumet's gonna have overload on the right hand side shotgun set running back into the quarterback's left.

That's Hainan in This is when they're gonna snap it to either guy.

They fake to Kangus pass from Hainan and goes deep to his brother, but it's broken up I play again.

He did break it up.

It's a nice play Kind of had his back turned He's there.

He's up a little bit gingerly, but nice play there

They're

getting some sound out of his helmet.

Oh, he's good.

Got to help him out after he made a big play.

It's going to be fourth down and five.

I think this is one of those places.

This is where you

got to watch for a little boot out.

Maybe even the Jets lead, finally.

I was going to say, it's dimes to donuts.

They were going to go for fourth down here, but I'm wrong.

They're going to punt.

I don't trust it, but we'll see.

I'm going to guess that's a hand in the back to the punt.

It's not.

Number 22 is the puncher that's Koskala.

Punt is right hand side.

It's going to bounce out of bounds.

Oh boy, it keeps going.

Nice punt.

Gets inside the 20.

And that's where we'll be.

It'll be first in 10 gladiators with 2-0-3 here to go.

No score yet.

We'll be back in 30 seconds.

WPY101 coverage of high school football.

Snap is a sloppy one.

He gets in the hands of Buzzo, but he's going to go nowhere.

Kangus tripped him up.

Good job.

This has saved the ball.

Yeah, that was a very good play by Buzzo.

You're right about that.

It's going to be a loss of, looks like, a couple.

Kind

of.

Buzzo, like five.

Not how you want to start a drive, either.

No, and

I think that last drive they had going, and then they got the penalty.

So this second, and then 15, or first, and 15 is not the situation they want.

They're behind the stick.

I do really think though, they're just one play away offensively, I think from hitting big.

Bubz is the guy that's explosive that's going to make a big play though.

They're going to get him the ball.

Bubz is looking to run right hand side and he's going to go nowhere.

That's Kangus again, I believe on the tackle and it is.

He's a good player.

We did talk to the coaches very briefly before the game and the Calumet Copper King, Clay Larson, he said they really need...

The two Haynes and Kangus to be big, and Kangus has been, as advertised, a very good defender so far.

He's been all over defensively.

I'm assuming he's their middle linebacker.

He'd be like Holmstrom's counterpart.

Yeah.

Yeah, and indeed he is.

I like to see them two clash in the middle a little bit.

I think it's going to happen here and they're taking this game, I assume, both sides of the ball.

55 seconds left, opening quarter, 3rd and 15.

Looks like an eye formation, buzzle back to pass, a little bit of time.

Now he's stepping up and he's going to get sacked.

Nice play by Calumet, both offenses struggling right now.

I just think if we lose five yards on first down, they're not going to pick up a whole bunch of first downs that way they have to win first down.

You've

got to win first down, at least go forward

a little bit.

I mean just a two yard gain on first is way better than minus five.

All right, fourth and 16, Amos is back to punt, 0-0 score, we've got over 20 seconds, just over.

And the punt is a high one right hand side.

It's going to be fielded by one of the Haynenin brothers out at the 45 yard line.

Misses one tackle.

Oh, break three now.

And then he's finally knocked to

the third by

Holmstrom.

And that was number 10.

That was Vince Haynenin.

So with 10.3 seconds left, this is the Eagles.

I want to say it's their best field position of the game.

Do I have that right?

They might

have been

a little deeper on the last effort.

Probably their best starting best starting for sure.

It's going to be at the they've got it at the 39 yard line.

It'll be first down and 10 Which will most likely be the last play of the opening quarter And you're right it has flown by relatively quickly.

We're only 20 minutes into this game All right, I formation eight in the center Kangus at full The other Hayden in that tail Kangus went motion to the right pitch to the right says hey here I ate it and cuts it back up decent run

Oh, he's wrestled down by Holmstrom.

After a gain of, I'm going to go with four.

And that will indeed end the opening quarter.

And it looks like that's a gain of, not sure.

We'll find out when we come back.

The score is 0-0.

We'll be back in 30 seconds.

Hello, folks, welcome back.

WBY101 coverage of high school football.

I am Willie Dupont.

I'm joined tonight by Cole Kin.

So far, we're going to Barber.

Nothing, nothing.

Nothing, nothing.

It's been a defensive game,

so far.

Good night.

The Glantz offense is still struggling.

I think their defense has been fine.

Really close matchup, though.

I think these teams are very even.

Just going to

be who can get that first big ball and if they can run with it.

I feel like it's gotta be Bubula.

You know, he had the one 75 yarder last game.

I mean, he's the real explosive guy.

I think your brother is capable there too.

I know he had a couple of big chunk plays last game.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a huge touchdown.

You know, we haven't really seen a team make a huge swinging play either way.

There hasn't been much either.

Shotgun set, one running back to the left, tail back to the left.

It's gonna be a keeper by Haynen and he's got a little bit of room.

Give him five or six.

I think that's Holmstrom that wrestled it down.

No, it's Ben.

Is that?

Is that Holmstrom?

Am I wrong on that one?

Yeah, I'm giving Holmstrom the credit on that one.

That was Vince Hayden with the keeper left hand side.

It's going to be third down and three.

But it has been a game

of, you know, so far, four, five, six yard runs.

You know, I think Bob Smith had an 11 yard run or so, but it's going to be who can get the first big ball.

I

think that 11 yard is the biggest play of the game so far.

I think so.

Alright big play here third down high formation.

We've got kengis and a pair of Hayden in the backfield kengis motions left It's a fumbled snap in the quarterback.

He's on the ground when he picked it back up Oh, he's doubled for a first down, but it's not gonna count.

It's gonna be fourth down and five Both teams have had a couple fumbled snaps at a crucial moment.

That's a killer for the Eagles

there That's a third and three.

I mean that's a very Manageable spa.

I mean you're still fourth and four fourth and five, but it's a little bit further

As a coach that's infuriating, you just give me a gain of, you know, a yard there is a big deal, not a loss of one.

Can you

do work hard again in

those situations, both ways?

All right, we got shotgun set, one ring back left.

We got a wing back on the left-hand side, too.

Ooh, that was almost offside.

It's going to be a run to Kangus, left-hand side, and he's, quote, he wrestles forward.

I think he's got it.

I think

they are going to give it to him.

I think they are.

That's going to be about a five-yard game by Stanley Kangus.

Oh, that's right at the stick.

They're going to have to measure that one.

Chain

game is going to head out there.

Got a good crew tonight, including Danny Kidd is one of them.

Derek Morris is out there as well as usual.

And I've got Pat Tucker and Caleb Price.

Looks like all

crew.

Don't be a hero and just don't fall down when they send you out there.

And they're gonna call it a oh boy, that's close.

They're gonna call it first down right at the stick.

I mean it is Cauchy right at the end of the ball.

Good job changing and good job by Calumet.

They have a first down and they are at the 29 yard line where it'll be first down at 10.

Still no score this game.

Ten and a half to go with second quarter.

Your second quarter sponsor is the Citizen's Day Bank.

Get on to Noggin.

Shotgun set, wing back right, running back to the left of the quarterback, Hayden in.

Snap is the Hayden in, give it to his brother, up the middle, not much.

Holmstrom's all over him right away.

He's been all over.

Rotting the Jiren in on the tackle.

Rotting number eight in there, good play.

Give him probably three yard gain.

I think a lot of that too, if you see Holmstrom making a bunch of tackles, that typically means their line is at least holding their own.

Yeah.

And giving him the opportunity to do what he's supposed to do.

And that does make a lot of it too.

Are your defensive linemen

Filling where they should it

is

and it'll open up place for your backers a lot of time

Alright shotgun set wing right running back to the left Hayden has got it.

He's gonna get it to his brother.

No, it's Kangus.

Oh, he's

stuck.

That was a nice hit there We give a credit to the 35 on the hit to give it to Logie there Crunch third out over

Can't play in a stellar game right

now.

I'm shocked if this is the same kid basketball You're so timid and I hear him out there yelling in pregame.

Oh, yeah

And he was a good basketball player.

Had a lot of discussions with Coach Besson about it.

Just tell him he's good so he believes he's a good player.

He is.

He is on the board, too.

All right, here we go.

Two wide receivers, right-hand side, third down and seven.

Shotgun set for Hayden in.

He's back to pass, looking right-hand side, looking for Kengis.

And it's over his head.

Pretty good coverage there by Clayton Kin.

And it brings up fourth down.

He's there.

With 9.07 left to go in the first half.

Of course, we'll have a half-time show as well.

Sponsored by Wysons pit stop bar and drill.

Another new sponsor this year.

I do

get the third and seventh pass.

But you've got to really trust it.

Yeah,

I don't

mind it.

I mean,

it's kind of there, but pretty good defense.

Yeah, it was a good defense.

It wasn't far off, but now you're stuck with fourth and seventh.

Now it's tough.

Eye formation, Hayden under center.

Kangus and Hayden are behind him.

The give is to nobody.

It's play action pass, throwing deep left hand side.

And oh, it's over, kid.

Nice play.

Wade Toscola from 28 yards out, and it makes the score 6 to nothing.

Wow, that was a nice play.

Kid was there, but it got over his head.

He just kind of started back pale and not really running with the guy.

Got out of position.

It was a good play.

It was a good play call.

Wow.

And there's the first score of the game, a 28-yard strike.

But that's what it was going to be.

You know, it had to be out a little bit.

I didn't necessarily see a team just go in and go in and go in.

No, those

are going to drive him in.

They had, I want to say it was that two first

outs and then they had a big play in, a fourth down.

All right, eye formation.

The fullback is number 24, that's Dwight Koskala.

He's in motion right hand side.

It's going to be a keep to hand it in who throws it to.

It's going to be a complete, it'll be a two point conversion to see who it is.

Is that 21 over there?

And that's

Kipala.

And the score is 8-2-0.

Gladiators trail it.

No, this is where the offense just has to decide, like, no, we can score.

We can move the ball.

Yeah.

And I'm going to assume that's probably, well, I know it is.

That's the first touchdown in Copper Island Academy football history.

It would be.

And it's a pass from Vince Haydenin.

to number the Cascola.

Number 22 Wade

Cascola.

It's a nice play.

Congratulations.

You're in the record books forever.

Now, we want to sit back here and come right back and tie the game.

With 9-0-1 to go, it is 8-0.

That's 9-0-1 in the first half.

8-0 Calumet.

They're going to kick to our right.

It's number 24 Dwight Cascola.

And he takes the left hand side and that's Baboula with it.

He's to the 30, gets around one man to the 35, to the 40, up to the 45.

Oh, runs on over another.

Nice run there by Brodie Baboula.

That will fire

you up by lineup.

He gets near midfield.

Nice return.

I'm going to give him about probably 25 yards on that one.

And it was an

accident too.

It was not supposed to go through there.

It flipped through the hands of Major.

We saw that last week.

The best kick return they had was a line driver, and I'm assuming that was never the plan.

No, you're

kind of rolling back, too.

All

right, glad he was in a great field position with March ready back down now.

It'll be Buzzo.

Looks like he's going to be under center.

He's got Holmstrom as the deep tail back.

Check that.

Mabula is going to line up in the deep tail.

Holmstrom in front of him in the eye formation.

Pitches to Mabula right hand side.

Tries to cut up.

That's really good defense again by number 50.

That's Calvin Anderson.

He's setting that edge.

They're not able to hook him.

Yeah.

You know, I make that adjustment.

If he's going to play upfield like that, give me the belly play where you wrap him out there and run right underneath him.

It would be the next step.

And I would say the middle of the field has been open a little bit to run.

I mean, they've hit on it here and there.

And we got second down to 10.

That was a gain, but they don't call it one.

It's a gain of a long nothing.

He'd often to roll a little bit

though.

They got it.

This is a big spot here.

Ball in your midfield.

Chaka and Snap coming to Buzzo.

He's got the ball in motion.

Buzzo's going to keep it left-hand side.

There's your run up the middle, but not for much.

He's got a few.

It's going to be third down.

Probably seven.

Maybe six.

I'm thinking seven.

It's forward though.

He's going backwards.

We're under eight minutes to go here in the first half.

Eight nothing.

Calumet leaves it.

It is going to be a third down and seven here.

You have to get you mean three or four or five yards here.

First time would be even better.

But they have to go forward on this play.

Happy.

Got to get something.

Looks like is that going to be a timeout?

No.

Equipment malfunction, maybe.

Yeah, that's what it is.

Not that.

I forget there.

This is high school football.

There are rules.

Game will stop because of that.

That more than we got on our left there in a wide position.

My formation in the back and I'll go back to pass and he's tackled as he throws and that doesn't know that's not gonna be a complete pass.

Oh No, I was down

He got tackled like kind of

awkward play there.

Hopefully he gets up.

They need him in this game.

He said nobody to block Yeah, there's pressure immediately on that play that's if you're on

a

It's

good that Calvin Anderson started that guard this evening and defensive end.

He has played well, fourth down and seven.

The ball is spotted at the Calumet 48 yard line.

Buzzo is going to come out for at least a play that's number eight heading out there is Majurin.

I think it's going to be Cooper at quarterback would be the guess.

I mean, you are on the plus side of the field, so.

I see Amos is out there.

We'll see where he lines up.

It is going to be Cooper Moylan and calling the play in the huddle and they got a boola on the sideline.

I don't know who you go to on this play.

I'm assuming they're going to try to pass.

Holmstrom's going to line up at fullback.

Amos is wide receiver to his left.

Main tailback.

I don't know whose number it is.

We can't see them.

Oh, and they got a false start by Amos, number 15.

That's going to bring it back even further.

I kind of wonder, do you punt now?

Yeah.

Oh, that was actually Brodie Majur and was lined up at tailback on that play.

It's going to be fourth down and 12.

if they are going on

now.

I think that's the right play.

It's not like Calumet's had a huge explosive offense.

You know, they got good field position.

Get them down there.

Your defense can make a play good enough to get the ball back, right?

I think so.

To me, it's the smart play of this game.

It's not really, you know, in jeopardy quite yet.

Don't make a mistake and give them the ball at the midfield.

That doesn't make sense to me.

That is a 5-yard penalty on the Gladiators.

It's going to be 4,012.

We're at 7 and a half minutes to go here in the first half.

Amos is out there.

He looks to punt.

Chelyamet didn't trust it.

Now they will.

It's going to be number 10 back there.

It's been tainted and starting quarterback.

Snap is just fine.

Punt is away and he's bumped.

No call.

Punt goes out of bounds at about the 29-yard line.

That's a fine play.

Now Amos is hurt.

Kind of a weird play.

He definitely ran into the punter.

Yeah, I don't

I'm not sure what they seen

there

No,

he's grabbing his left elbow left shoulder.

I guess we'll see if he goes, okay An awkward play kind of took like either a helmet or shoulder right to it That would happen maybe like a bruise.

He'll wake up with a bruised elbow tomorrow All right

It was well after he got it off, you know, that's how you're running into it.

Yeah, I Guess that's why we're not referees All right, shotgun snap here to Hainan and two wide receivers right one guy in motion is Kangus.

He's heading to his left Now it's gonna be a run to the left for Hainan and well-designed play.

He's got room to the 40 He's up near midfield.

The boo is the only guy to be all the boo hits them.

They have them up And wrestles them down with a nice play.

It's up to the 44 yard line

Oh, that's a gain of 25 plus there.

He went nowhere though after he got that little stick from Brody.

Nice tackle by Bulley.

You don't see somebody get hit like that.

That's hard downfield.

I mean, he went nowhere after that

either.

Not down.

This is a get-check time for the Gladys.

They have to stop him now.

It would be a great time.

Got to show some fire here.

It's obviously, even if you do go two scores down, it's not the end of the world.

But you gotta show some fire here.

Momentum is twitching against the Gladiators pretty

fast.

I agree.

The Eagles have all the mojo right now.

Hated in the shotgun.

Two wide receivers, two is left.

He's gonna run left.

Got a little bit of room.

I got three, four yards.

I'm gonna give him a jury and credit on that tackle number eight.

That's actually Kangus in the back.

Was that 23 that ran that one?

Yeah.

Short game though.

Nice tackle there by Major.

It's gonna be second down, probably seven or eight.

They call it seven on the big board.

We're just under six and a half minutes left here first half Calumet leads it eight to zero And they line up at the 42 yard line 41 yard line check that of the gladiators And it ends under center He's got an eye formation behind him And give to the fullback is Koskala he goes Backward nice play there who had to tackle like this that one my bad is that 52 thank you was

Him

and

Ryan, maybe?

Connor and Ryan?

We're going to give Guzik and Holmstrom credit on that tackle.

It's a loss of a couple.

Brings up a third down and nine.

Kind of a trap that didn't go anywhere.

Those traps, I mean, it's a play you throw up there once in a while just to catch someone off guard, make them think for the rest of the game.

Yeah.

We've got a shotgun set here.

Hated him.

That QB, two wides to his left.

He's got a little bit of time.

Coming with pressure here.

Number 19 around the edge.

Doesn't tackle him.

Now he's running to his right.

Oh, nice block there.

He's got a first down to the 30 inside the 25 yard line.

He's finally knocked out of bounds by number 28.

It's Cooper Moylanen.

Nice play there by Hayden in.

DJ

Anderson.

I thought it was BJ.

He didn't have a

nice player

on the

edge, but quarterback just made a play to

knock it.

Oh, and that's a backbreaker.

Nice first down.

Good run there.

That was Vince Hainan in.

The ball is up to the 25-yard line.

We have 5-24, clock temporarily frozen.

Gladstrail at 8-0.

They got to get a stop.

You don't go down, too.

Copper Island is doing a better job, though, moving

the ball offensively.

They've been spryed throughout the second quarter.

Shotgun set.

Two y's to the left.

Hainan has got it.

Looking left.

He's got time.

Finds a guy wide open.

That's number 21.

That's Kilpelah.

He's running up field up to the 10.

where he's tackled by a group of gladiators, but not after he picks up 15 yards, and yet another, Calumet first down.

Too much.

Too much.

I like the design there.

The two wides both run crossing routes to the right-hand side, and they snuck a tight end over there in a flat.

He's wide open.

He was.

They've done that a couple times where they just kind of sneak out that little dump rail to a tight end, and they've been open.

Pretty

much every time.

They ran that same play in that fourth and 16.

I know they only got seven, but it looked like there was more.

That was that same play.

I'd be willing to bat.

All right, eye formation, tight end right hand side.

Now we got a guy in motion that's Kangus to the left.

It's a fake pitch and a give to Kangus up the middle.

Oh, nice stick, but he's got himself a few.

That was Kinn on the tackle.

Pobula.

You think Pobula there?

Yeah, it was number one.

How does Pobula, that one and seven get me?

Pobula on the tackle there, good call.

Gain of a few it's gonna be second down and six or seven Big board says five.

I guess I'm way off on that one.

That is five yards.

No way four and a half to go here They've got the ball spotted on the six yard line And it is five Somewhere in the middle Close enough for government work, right?

Gotta make a stop though.

This is big.

I keep saying it and I keep marching Now be a good time as any folks

Hayden is in the shotgun.

His brother's to his left.

We got a wing back to the right.

I believe that's Kangus.

Snap is to Hayden that runs the option, gets it to his brother, left hand side.

Number 11 cuts back, and he is going to score.

From six yards out, that's Victor Hayden

in,

and he has a six yard TD run.

And that makes the score 14 to nothing.

Calumet, oh no.

Ken Logie was an edge on that side, and he was just kind of put on a string with the option.

You just wonder, you know, like I know that play, somebody has the responsibility.

Is it the quarterback or is it the running back?

And we're not going to know.

But you're right, it

was two on one out

there.

Yeah, it was

just no way to beat daddy.

I've got Copscala line up as a fullback.

Snap is the ain't it in.

Ain't it going to keep it looking to throw a little bit of pressure, runs away to his left hand side and cruises in for the two-point conversion.

And that makes the score 16 to nothing Calumet.

Ouch.

Glad to have the ball here though.

We have about 359 here to go in the second quarter.

Of course, we'll talk a little bit at halftime, which will be presented by Wiseman's pit stop, Bar, and Grill.

To a few more live reads, I've got the minor state bank of Antonagon, their fourth-quarter sponsor.

and the Birdland and Bay bar again.

Thank you to all of our sponsors We'll try to give you one more reason the second half Time permits In the meantime glad you're gonna move the ball here.

I mean we've been preaching it now for two quarters

I don't know I like that slam play like give me that play

So to Ken once more, at least some point, maybe not this quarter, but in the second.

And they've got to find Baboula some room.

Got

to find him.

Swiver left-hand side.

They got to get that ball.

And they do.

That's more than it was the heads-up play.

That's up to the 42-yard line, I believe.

And you see, Majura was out there too.

I know he got picked on last week for now.

He covered an onsite kick.

That's what he was going for.

Yeah.

With a lot of effort.

So I believe the coach has talked to him last week.

I'm assuming.

I would believe so.

I mean, can't stand on top of it, not.

So you have to go get that ball.

All right.

Glad it's a good field position as a result of the onside kick.

357 here to go in the first half.

Looks like a trips wide receiver formation to the left, one wide out to the right.

Does that buzzle back out there?

Believe it is.

And we have, it looks like a timeout.

So the score is 16-nothing.

Calumet leading the Antonagon Gladiators.

357 here to go in the half.

And we'll come back in 30 seconds.

As the leaves change in Antonagon, one thing stays the same.

Hello and welcome back.

WPY 101 coverage of high school football gladiators with the ball first down at 10.

We have a four wide set, three wide left, one to the right.

Puzzles in shotgun, Baboula in motion.

It's a pitch to Baboula, right hand side goes right up the middle and he's got a gain of probably five yards.

It's a nice play.

Hard to say as the guy, you know, up here, not on the field with the ball, but the jet sweep's got to go outside.

He wants that

play outside.

And I think Calumet has done a good job of contain

they

have and they forced our players to run upfield rather than around the edges And I think not so long it's got some good speed, but they just can't get to where it matters yet.

No You got a formation all instrument full back.

I believe that's the bullet tail Give us to the bullet right hand side and he jumps over one guy and he's tackled up near the midfield It's gonna be third down very manageable third down and free for their about

Not good as a running back though and you got a

hurdle here down line.

They've the scoreboard says third and five.

There's no way I'm gonna go third and another they go third and four.

I'll buy that one.

We're under three minutes to go here in the first half.

I formation, Holmstrom and Bamboula.

Buzzo under center.

He's got more than as a whiteout to his right hand side.

Give his two Bamboula tail and he's just gonna muscle his way forward for a nice first down.

That was a hard run there.

I was 45.

He took a couple shots and just kept going.

Hey, at this point in the game, he's like, coach, just give me the ball.

Yeah.

And so far, so good.

That's the first down for the Gladiators, their first one in a while.

And even last week, it wasn't like he got a bull load of carries.

No one.

I talked about that last year.

I think he got the ball kind of too much sometimes.

But he could definitely get the ball 15 to 20 times in a game.

That's fine.

He maybe got a 10 last week with minimal results other than one huge play.

All right, I formation again.

Give it a two-buzzle again.

Not a buzzle.

Sorry, that's Papula.

And he's got another nice run up here to 40.

And he's getting five yards of crack right now.

Just keep letting him.

You know, if you're breasting.

We got 2.15 here to go to give him a gain of four.

It'll be second down and six.

And the ball is spotted just outside the 40-yard line of Calumet.

I like it, though.

It's right up the middle.

They're not trying to go after those ends too hard.

They're just trying to get a little bit of push up front.

I think they got it.

Their line has to win right now.

Got eye formation.

We've got more than a split out left.

And we have another timeout or something.

And

it's going to be a timeout for Antonagin.

We'll stick around here, though.

We got second down and six.

We're just under two to go.

What play do you run right here?

You keep going with Baboula?

I don't know.

Maybe after a timeout, maybe you come out with that little flank, boys.

Catch him off guard a little bit.

I'm going to run that bootleg and try to run the flank, which would be my thought on this play.

You know Clayton wants another crack at it.

He was open and he got to pass earlier like he he'll catch it this time coach if you give him a chance.

Just gotta give him.

I think that would be one of those play calls were like that could hit a home run right here.

Yeah, it's a little bit risky, but I think that's the play I'd go with.

Otherwise I don't mind seeing Bobula.

I'd like to see him try to get to the edge.

Now they ran up the middle a little bit.

Maybe those run or the ends crash down just that little bit.

Catch him

inside.

Got to try

to find a way to get a room though.

You know, just got to get him in space.

Just a crack even.

He doesn't need a ton of

space either.

He showed himself to be a very physical runner.

He's not a big kid, but he's low to the ground.

He's not easy to tackle.

Not easy to bring down at all.

All right, here we go.

Buzzer's in shotgun.

He's got Holmstrom to his right, but Bula's in motion on his left hand side to give us the Holmstrom up the middle.

And that's a nice run by Holmstrom, his best of the game.

Now there's a big scrum pile.

What do you know?

Near the first down stick.

And do they have a first down?

They haven't spotted the ball yet.

I think that's the first down.

There it is, first down.

Nice run by Holmstrump.

So we're just wrong on our play calling, but that works just fine.

It works just fine.

I mean, when you go five yards without contact,

keep pounding it.

Absolutely.

Nice.

Superboolie is going to get a ref.

Clock is ticking, 135.

Ball

is spotted at the 35 yard line just inside of Calumet.

Buzzles in the shotgun.

More than a wide receiver to his right.

He's got Holmstrom and now Amos in motion.

They give this to Holmstrom up to the left-hand side.

Oh, and he's stuck.

Nice tackle there by number 22.

That's Wade Koskala with a nice stick.

Wade will hold on too.

He's

got his hands on him.

Brought him down.

And Holmstrom's a tough kid.

You don't think you'd be able to take him down that easily.

It really wasn't that easy.

He just stood him up and he got some help.

A nice play.

And we have just over a minute left.

Second down 11.

They need a big crack play here.

They trail at 16 to nothing.

We have a minute left now in the first half Shotgun said buzz always got home stream to his right one and it's out wide Amos in motion.

It's a pitch to Amos right hand side Just keep going to the sideline son.

There you go, and he gets five yards.

Oh, we tackle way lady took all Pat Tucker.

My goodness Oh Pat's okay over there.

It's a gain of five or six

Everybody looks all good over there.

I think

I don't know if that tackle was later now.

We can't see it at all.

Probably didn't wasn't needed.

I would say just done into the sideline.

That was a good play though.

It's the six yards and I mean a second 11.

That's perfect.

Stops the clock and another smart play there.

The ball is spotted at the 30th third on five.

We've got 47 seconds left in the second quarter.

Buzzo's in shotgun holds him to his left.

He's got a wing back in Amos to his right.

Widerseer is more into the left-hand side.

They give us the Holmstrom gaping hole there.

And Holmstrom with another first down, tripped up just outside the 20-yard line.

Nice play.

And number 50 for Calumet gets up holding his arm.

That's Calvin Anderson.

He's played well.

That's all he made that tackle with, too.

He just got his arm out there.

I wonder

if that hurt.

And what do we got here?

Another timeout.

We're going to discuss it.

We're going to take a timeout, too.

The score is 16-0.

Gladiators on the march.

They got the ball to 30.

We'll come be back in 30 seconds.

Hello folks, welcome back.

Score is 16-nothing.

I got a note from Jerry Major and he says that Copper Island Academy, not Calumet.

I'm saying it's one and one and the same, but we can call him Copper Island.

Or we just call him Eagle.

Anyway, the Eagles playing defense, first in 10.

Glad to have the ball with the 20 yard line.

They trail at 16-nothing.

Buzzel's in the shotgun.

It's a bad snap and it's on the ground.

He's got to follow on it and that's a loss of a bunch.

Loss of 15.

And that more or less kills that drive.

That was unfortunate.

Oh, and you hate to see that.

Call a timeout and that's what the play execution was.

That just doesn't do it.

Not ideal.

Then who got the ball first?

We remember, was it?

Is it Glad's kick?

Receive.

That is correct.

So Copper Island, we'll get that right now.

They're going to receive the second half kickoff.

They're going to have the lead for sure.

It might be trimmed, but they're still going to have the lead either way.

Right now it's second down in 24.

There's 35 seconds left in the second quarter.

And I know this drive, I mean, I don't want to say it's going to stall, but that played in the hell, but they actually moved the ball a little bit at the end.

Just get it going.

There's no reason they can't move the ball in the second half of this game.

And it wasn't a very methodical way.

It was just rushes up the gut, little plates outside.

But they did a lot of it up the middle here on the blaster.

Yeah, I think Copper Island is a good job of containing.

So if they're going to give you room up the middle, then that's where you take it.

That's fine.

Here we go.

Shotgun set.

Amos in motion.

That snap is good.

Fuzzle back to pass.

He's got some time.

Deep right hand side.

Got a man.

It is as incomplete knocked away.

Is that 35 out there?

It is.

Number 35 was Cam Logie was the intended target.

Had him for a second, but knocked away.

Pretty good defense there by Copper Islay.

The score is...

Still going to be 16.

Nothing, 28.2 left.

It's 3rd and 24.

That was a decent play.

And Bubbles got a decent arm.

He just got to give it some time.

Yeah, I mean, he was just getting hit as he was getting rid of it.

Just kind of had to heave it.

No, correct me if I'm wrong, but Cam's a pretty big kid as far as tall, right?

Is he 6' something?

He's up there.

Yeah, so he needs a decent sized target.

6'2", 6'3", I'd do.

I'm

thinking they don't have a ton of large targets.

It's not like that kid laughs like we saw from a crystal ball.

That kid is a monster, a freshman too.

28.2 left, Buzzo's in Shaka.

He's got a homestorm to his right, Amos in motion, he's back to pass, he's got a lot of time.

Now he's run out of time, throws it left, it's over everybody.

He

was trying to bind Moin in over there.

It's

going to be fourth down and forever.

I don't mind going for the deep passes, but I kind of wonder if you run like a 15 yard out and just try to get a big chunk there rather than go for the home run.

But hindsight's 20-20, you can run whatever you want on that situation.

Especially since you do have 10 yards to get a first down, you don't have to score after picking up the stakes.

No, well, too, they're going to do.

They got to go for it, I'm assuming.

They need 24 yards here, some way, somehow.

Why not?

See your brother on the sideline.

Evie, one of those target cells, he's looking for, but he's not going to be out there for this play.

Here we go.

Fourth in, 24.

Got more than as wide out to the left.

Little confusion here.

Amos is the wing back on the right-hand side.

Buzzo will be in shotgun with Holmstrom.

Buzzo back to pass.

Got a little bit of time.

Now he's running left.

He's got some room.

He's going to take off.

He's got to get a lot though.

And he breaks one tackle and fights his way, not even close to a first down, but pretty nice run there.

It's

going to be a turnover on down.

Copper Island will take over.

Yeah,

I get it.

Buzz was just trying to make something happen there.

I don't have a problem with that play.

Took a bunch of time off the clock and he gained, I mean, you gained probably 10, 15 yards there.

Yeah, it was a good

play.

I mean, there's just not a lot you can do on 4th and 24.

Yeah, I don't think a lot

of coaches drop the 4th and 24 play.

He's just kind of hoping something works out.

Nonetheless, Copper Island takes over.

16-0, they lead.

Quarterback under center.

He's just going to kneel and that's going to get us to halftime.

And we'll do a halftime show for you momentarily that's presented by Wyzen Pitstop Bar and Grill.

The halftime score is 16 for the Copper Island Academy Eagles and 0 for the Hanson-Hagen-Uentral Creek Waters Mead Gladiators.

We're gonna take a good healthy time out here though.

We'll be back for the halftime show in eight minutes.

Grand Rapids was the officiating capital of the world for one day, and we introduce a new series on why officials officiate.

I'm John Ross, and this is This Week in High School Sports, powered by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, and coming to you from the 1-800-CALL-SAM studio.

In late July, about 1,000 MHSAA registered officials attended Officiate Michigan Day at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

Some of the biggest names and officiating from across the country were on hand to lead discussions, workshops, and training sessions.

The two keynote speakers were Mike Pereira, a former college and NFL official who is now the TV Rules Analyst for Spock Sports, and Kerry Seitz, the current Vice President of Ruffering for U.S.

Soccer, and the former FIFA Head of Ruffering.

Seitz is also a graduate of Brighton High School in Michigan State University.

Officiate Michigan Day was designed to benefit officials with any level of experience, veteran to beginner, high profile clinicians representing several sports in all levels including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, FIFA and the National Women's Soccer League provided face-to-face training during four sport specific breakout sessions throughout the conference.

This was the third Officiate Michigan Day joining events in 2013 and 2018 and for more

Our weekly Be the Referee feature takes a look at the fine art of officiating with MHSAA registered official Paige Winnie.

We're on the football field today where the offense has the ball on their own 20 yard line.

It's third and 10.

They run a draw play with the running back getting nine yards before fumbling at the 29 yard line.

The fumbled ball goes forward to the 35 yard line before another offensive player recovers.

Where should the ball be marked?

Because the ballers were covered in bounds, it's first down for the offense at the point of recovery, the 35-yard line.

If the ball had rolled out of bounds at the 35-yard line before anyone could recover it, it would have been brought back to the spot of the fumble, the 29-yard line, making it fourth and one for the offense.

Thanks, Paige.

There are lots of reasons to get in and stay in officiating.

Each week, we hear from a current or former official in a segment called What's My Why.

This week, we hear from Mike Pereira, who is currently the Football Rules Analyst for Fox Sports.

I didn't want to officiate when they first came to me.

I said, no.

I said, no.

My dad would officiate.

That's a why.

I said, I don't have any desire to.

And they said, well, why?

I said, because I don't.

Well, your dad officiated.

Well, maybe that's it.

I used to go to games and watch him get yelled at.

But it's $10 a game.

It's $10 a game on Sunday, three games, $30 cash.

I was a college student with no money.

I said, I always thought I wanted to officiate.

And out I went, and it was kind of interesting that that first quarter of the first game, the first Pop Warner game, first quarter, parents are yelling at me.

I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

Kids, little kids running around.

And it was like somebody injected me with adrenaline.

I found my passion in life.

As stupid as that may be sound, I found my passion in life.

Now more than ever, we need officials.

Welcome back to WKY101 coverage of high school football.

We're up to the Weizmann pit stop bar and grill halftime show.

We've got about 10 minutes before they kick off, the second half.

So far, it is all Copper Island Academy Eagles.

They started the scoring early.

They had a 28-yard pass from Vince Hainanen to Wade Costco to make it 6-0.

And then Vince hit Nolan Kilpelaw in the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Short time later, Vince's brother Victor had a 6-yard TD run to make it 14-0.

And then Vince added a 2-point conversion to make it 16-0.

That's all the scoring.

That's all the scoring.

So it's been all Copper Island Academy.

Now the gladiators that last drive we saw him get it going just a little bit mostly with the Bula and Holmstrom.

What do we got to see in the second half for them to get back in this game?

Having the football possession of the ball is way bigger, especially in a game like this than it seems maybe.

Not a ton of scoring, but if you have the ball, they can score.

I agree with you, I think.

It's the first possession for both sides in this half I think they have to get a stop and they have to move the ball if they allow the Eagles to march down and score and get up three scores I think we're in big trouble.

Yeah, but

if you come out and knock the ball out of their running backs hands on the first carry It makes a way different course for the rest

of

all

I've had the Eagles turn the ball over in this game.

They have not I think what on Sagan's got one they had to fumble early both teams I think lost one on fourth down a pretty clean game so far

The other thing too is I think they've had some opportunities in the passing game if they can give Buzzel some time and Bill, if you're listening, he's a sophomore, we got it.

Ray and Buzzel is a sophomore quarterback.

He's got an arm and he's mobile.

I'd like to see him roll out.

They give you that bootleg action, you know, do a play action and get him out of the pocket a little bit would be a good play, something along those lines.

To just have him throw flat-footed kind of in the back of the pocket, hasn't been working the best.

I think their coach said it well as early in the game or in the pregame He told us this team has to be fundamental because they're just really not big enough.

They have no size And if you don't have fundamentals, it's tough to accomplish anything when you just said dropping back a puzzle and trying to throw I think it'd be very difficult We don't have the line to block either.

No, they have to make him mobile

And both lines kind of have to play with that game of speed and in a lot of net because they're not the biggest on both sides

I

was a little guy playing line.

One of the first things is getting the guys away.

If you make a defender run through, you're going to play going away.

That's enough.

That'll work.

Sometimes it's just position matters more than you don't have to necessarily knock your guy 30 yards off the ball.

Just be in and away the whole time to be attached to him is what matters.

Alright folks, I'm going to go through the scores one more time and then we're going to take another little break.

We got about seven minutes before the second half start.

Scoring was let off on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Vince Hainan to Wade Koskola.

That was the first touchdown ever.

in Copper Island Academy history, then Vince Hayden and then hit Nolan Kilpel in a 2-point conversion, make it 8-0.

Vince Hayden then scored a 60-R and TD run momentarily later, make it 14-0, and then Vince scored a 2-point conversion, make it 16-0.

Now it's Victor that had that run, not Vince.

And your score is 16-0.

We've got about six and a half minutes before the second half starts.

We'll take a five-minute break.

We'll be back in five.

Thanks for that one, Robbie.

Got in just in time.

Here's the second half kick to the Eagles.

It's feeling at the 20 yard line.

That's one of the Haynes ends.

He's up to the 35, up to the 40.

Breaks free a little bit up to the 43 yard line.

Taken down by Majuren.

Is that in

Moilen

and you got it.

Nice return.

No, that's not quite.

Thought we wanted the second half to start.

Twice dangerous

taking to that deep dive.

It is.

Yeah, most of the success we saw, I thought Crystal had a pretty good plan, just kick to the edges.

You try to kick it like kind of towards the 20 yard line, sort

of

towards the out-of-bond marker is kind of the way to go and I've seen so far.

And the score is 16-0.

Copper Island with the ball.

They're going to go eye formation, hanging under center.

He's got a tail back and full back behind him.

Give to his brother a tail back and he goes nowhere at 35 on a stick there.

And his logi, nice play.

Can't play good in this

game.

Set us all at edge.

He's kind of playing on that tight end and defensive end, you know, both sides of the ball.

He's on the technically the weak side, if you will.

He's on the left side of the offense, near side to us.

The gladiator is going left to right this half.

I see Cooper Morelin.

It was shaken up in the first play.

He's at the bench.

Hopefully he's OK.

There's a ton of players.

All right, here we go.

Second down and nine.

Shotgun set.

Wing back right.

Tail back to the left of the quarterback.

Hane in it.

This is that snap into either guy.

They snap it to Hainan and he fakes it to Kangus and keeps it right hand side with a blast up the middle.

Nice run and he's stuck, but way downfield.

He got tackled at the 45 yard line.

He's up a Bulu that hit him.

There it is.

Brody Bulu with a nice stick, but that's a 10 yard game.

That's a tough ball.

That's a solid run though and it kind of went the same way as the motion.

Yeah, they're doing kind of a weird formation where they put really two quarterbacks standing next to each other and they snap it either and that one was a fake to Kangus and a keeper by Hainan, but they've snapped it to Kangus out of that same formation for a run.

Yeah, just kind of that fake handoff and it wound up going to the same side.

It's odd how that was done.

All right, we got double wide receivers left hand side.

Hainan is in the shotgun set.

He's about about the 50 yard line, first and 10.

Snap is in.

Blitz by the Gladiators.

He's got a little bit of time.

They're going to call holding on this play, and he's tackled for a loss of one.

I was wondering if they'd throw it on that.

Give me a holding call on that.

It's got to be what that is, right?

It has to be.

It's got to

be.

What am I seeing?

Everybody's walking around with a cup of a pickle in it.

What is that?

I

don't know.

If we're going to check out the booth at the end of the game here, see if they've got some leftovers for us.

That is indeed a holding call.

It's going to be first down along.

That helps the cause for the Gladiators.

Now I was getting that mentality.

You've got a first down in 20.

You just need positive plays.

You want to get five to seven yards on first down.

Give yourself a chance here if I'm Copper Island.

They're going to spot the ball at the 44 yard line back in the Eagles' own territory.

It's a good spot.

That's a defensive to start rallying off of something.

You get a big holding call.

10 yards is a whole series.

That's

huge.

Especially high school ball where these these teams really aren't getting me chunk plays with ten yards.

It's a big deal

Yeah,

you've got a stack wide receiver set towards us one guy motion is Kangus And it's gonna be a fake to Kangus ain't in the back to pass those left-hand side find skillful I believe

is it is number

22

with a nice

play up to the 35 yard line.

It was number 22.

All right, Kalskala It's who that was he caught the first touchdown and copper Island Academy history

Just off to the tight end is all that was

Yeah, I don't know if they've even tried to hit a wide receiver yet.

It's always been I think either a full back or the tight end on that kind of play It's been effective for them.

They've completed that same sort of play several times now

bringing the change.

That's a gain of 20 on first and 20 and they're right at the stick No, no, he goes there forget it.

We'll run that second down to one play but no we're gonna we're gonna check the Chains instead kind of a gray

They were ready to go.

Yeah.

Thought they'll be held up for just a second.

We'll see if that's the first down.

That's really close to us.

As close as it gets.

And that's the first down.

Another first down by the Eagles on a first and 20.

That's the backbreaker for the defense.

They've got to step up here.

Gotta make some kind of play.

Somebody on the defense side.

Can we get a fumble?

Yeah, Holmes from tackle and a fumble here.

Even on the field that's gonna be hard if he's not out there.

He's not on the field right now scratch that you have to be somebody else And we've got what here looks like Got a tight end left shotgun snap to Hainan and then he's got two y's out to his right hand side Man in motion is his brother.

It's a fake to his brother keeper by hanging on right hand side Oh a nice tackle there out in base because Clayton can great play Gain him just a couple

That was number 10 Vince Hayden in the quarterback on the keeper 920 to go here third quarter your third quarter response sir is on Sonoghan County Telephone company midway telephone company and jam it off.

Thank you for your third quarter sponsorship Get him

to I like to have a stick up and tackle and we've seen it early in the game But as it's gone on seen it less

less and less I formation can get some motion left-hand side the pitches to Hayden in he cuts it up field That's not a number 24 is a short game

That's the white consula.

Anderson on the tackle.

You giving BJ the credit for that one?

He came around mate.

There's a gain, I'm going to call that one a four yard gain.

Should set up about a third down and five.

We've got a big play coming up here, 840 to go here, third quarter.

It is at these third down and five.

The ball is spotted right now.

I believe that's at the 31 yard line, give or take.

Call it

31.

Somebody's

got to be clutch here.

Give me a stop.

Give me a loss of one or two here

would be huge

They're gonna go I formation the pullback is 24.

That's Costco tail back.

I believe is hanging

it Now goes

to the quarterback.

He hands those brother right hands on the short game.

Nice tackle there Number 30 is that 32 30 even Is Romeo polar the water speed player the junior nice play good tackle on the outside

Oh, and they pull him after a nice tackle.

Connor Guzik's gonna head back out there after a race.

Nice play there by Romeo Pollock.

750

to go, it's 4th down and 3th.

This is a huge play in this ballgame.

Get a stop here, Gladz.

He's being pretty hard on it.

Yeah, it looks like 4th in the yard to half.

Looks like about 2.

I formation.

Hanging it under center.

Deep tail back, I believe it's Kangus.

They give us the Kangus right hand side and he's close.

I don't think he got it though.

That's gonna be real close.

This is a big play here.

Have we seen a signal yet?

I

think he just gave it to him.

He's got it first down.

Oh, that was clutch.

Nice run there.

And yet another Copper Island Academy first down.

He's had the ball for over four minutes, so the third quarter started off.

It's 7-20 and counting.

The ball is spotted at the 25-yard line, first down at 10, for the Eagles.

Credit to them.

They came right out in the second half and

just placed their way, yeah.

I formation.

Haining it under center.

Give it to the tail back, left-hand side.

That's Kangus.

He's got himself a couple.

Pretty good defense there, though.

Not much.

It's always hard to tell by this angle, isn't it?

It looks like three.

Oh, you get four on the board.

No way.

That's three.

Clear as

day.

It's under seven to go.

They're going to call it second down and six on the big board.

The ball is spotted at the 22 yard line.

That clock keeps on ticking away.

I don't find a way to get a stop

here on this drive.

They do.

You got Kengis have full back, Hayden ends that tail.

They're under eye again, shockingly.

Kengis in motion, left hand side.

Give is to Kengis on a trap plate to the right.

Nice play.

He's got himself a handful, near the first down marker again.

I think he's going to be short, but it's going to be third and short, maybe third and one.

And this clock is going to get two, six minutes.

That's half of the third quarter gone already.

One drive.

And Copper Academy just doesn't want to give the Glads a chance wisely.

They just had the ball.

Good drive by them.

I'd

say

they did a great job overcoming a first and 20.

That was big.

One play.

Eye formation, Kangus in motion, left-hand side.

And it's going to be a keeper to Hayden, and oh,

he's blasted

right at the stick.

I don't think he got a whole lot there.

Like that's Brian.

Kind

of.

Oh.

It

didn't get the first down.

It was a home strumming given credit to it.

That was a nice hit, however it was.

We're going to give credit to Holmstrom.

He's the

one that was surprised at the first

down.

Yes, he had another first down.

I think that's their third, at least, on this possession.

That clock will start ticking away again.

We're at 545 and counting.

That's if they can get the scoreboard's attention.

So far, no good.

Two referees waving their arms.

Now a whistle will get their attention.

There we go.

Now the clock's running.

Now it stops.

What do we got going on here now?

Come on.

Now I don't know what they're doing.

That clock should be running.

Now it is.

They're

going to make it trip down to probably 540 and then let them run a play here.

All right, there we go.

Five and a half to go.

Score is 16-nothing.

Copper Island.

Eye formation.

Kangus at full.

Hayden in that tail back.

Brother Vince under center.

Give us Hayden.

Oh, it's not a keeper.

He's going to try to throw.

He's got a man wide open in the end zone for a touchdown.

And it's a 15 yard strike.

Who caught that ball?

How do you catch it?

You give us 22?

Yeah.

Yeah.

It's

going to go Wade Koskala from 15 yards.

And Hainan and with his second touchdown pass of the game, the score is 22-0.

And they took almost seven minutes out the clock.

That was a great possession by Copper Island, unfortunate for the Gladge there.

They just haven't been able to get momentum in there

way

much at

all

tonight.

And I give credit.

Copper Island, they've methodically moved the ball.

The majority of the game, they have moved the ball.

They haven't made huge splash plays necessarily.

It's

grinding.

It gives to Kangus.

No, it's not.

It's a keeper by Hayden and he finds a wide open receiver.

I

think

that's his brother.

It is.

So that's Hayden into Hayden and on the two point conversion the score is 24 to nothing.

Copper Island Academy.

And they scored again.

It starts the third quarter.

The gladiator's after it.

They got to move the ball, but this is it.

And I feel like if they get the ball back to Calumet, they might not see the ball again the rest of the game.

Maybe not.

I'm probably exaggerating a little bit there, but...

Got to get it back.

You do get it.

That goes without saying at halftime, like, really the first two possessions in so far.

It's only she's won.

Copper Island, they dominated their possession.

Yeah.

And so the Gladys have to answer here.

And with all three being two-point conversions on top of that...

They've

executed very well inside the five, no doubt.

They gotta get a spark here, like give me a big play.

Could it be right here, but who is the deep returner?

I'd be shocked if Dwight Costco kicks anywhere near him.

If he did, I betcha Coach would get mad at him.

Here we go.

Kicks it right down Broadway.

It's into the hands of that skin right hand side.

He's up to midfield.

He's to the 40 and he's going to score.

Clayton Kinn with a huge play on special teams and the gladiators are on the board.

24 to 6.

Hard to see how far.

I'm going to give him a 70R return there.

Why don't we just call it 70?

It's going to be something like that.

That's fair play, yeah.

65, 70, so.

Huge play.

That was,

yeah.

That was a huge play.

Don't even make your offense, see

the ball.

Clayton limps off the field, but he's just made a huge play.

Does it turn this game around kind of play?

We'll see.

On the two-point conversions, they're all going to be big here though because you need all of them.

Copper Island is three for three.

Clayton limps off the field, but he's made a huge play for his team.

He's had some bother earlier too.

Same thing.

Kind of hobbling around.

All right, shotgun set here.

Buzzo, the sophomore.

Got two running backs in front of him, running left-hand side.

He's going to be short, good defense by Copper Island.

But the score is 24-6 for a 508 to go here third quarter.

Gladiers are crawling back in the game just a little bit, but now they have to get a

stop.

Yeah, and

another one.

They're going to need... Yeah, I mean, they're still down three scores.

So they're going to need numerous stops, but a little turnover would help the cost here.

Sometimes you try to announce yourself into a turnover, right?

Maybe.

A little announcer's curse.

It works in basketball sometimes.

I swear I've missed free throws before.

He's made every free throw this season.

That'll get him.

So the copper island hasn't turned

a ball over all game.

And that's really where they've been to better teams.

They

have been.

They've just been fundamentally sound

all night.

You echo what their coach said.

We have to be fundamentals.

We're not big enough to not be fundamental and they have won that

battle.

Except for that one play on the kickoff that was,

you

know, they have containment, which they lost.

All right, Amos is going to kick 5-0-8 here to go.

24-6 is the score.

Glad down by 18.

Not over yet.

That kick is deep.

He's

going to go to Hayden and he's not going to field it cleanly though.

He's going to pick it up at about the 10 yard line.

Oh, nice block there.

We've got a glad down out of bounds.

And instead of working his way to the 25-yard line, he's pushed out of bounds, and the 29 has Cooper more than a neck out.

I'd like to see some

laundry for that.

They are going to call an illegal block there.

He

should.

That was dirty.

And Coop is, he's shaking up.

Yeah.

And they are going to call, it's going to be some kind of illegal block, I'm sure of it.

Legal block in the back.

Should be personal.

That's.

possibly a half to distance to the goal line kind of play there.

Matter of fact, I think that's what the call is.

We'll see.

The flag is at about the 19 yard line.

Copper Island is going to be backed up way in their own territory.

Just win first down here.

And create an opportunity for your offense to get back on the field in good field position.

He's actually going to count off steps.

Is that a 10 yard penalty maybe?

Going

across the field, that's a little weird.

I don't

know if we should count them off.

No, that's a half the difference penalty.

They're going to spot it just inside the ten yard line.

It'll be first down at ten.

We have four fifty-eight left, third quarter.

Third quarter sponsors, Yonsei County Telephone Company, Midway Telephone Company, and Jamadot.

All right, here we go, 24-sixth Copper Island with the lead.

Long field ahead of them now.

Guys, they do.

This is a big play here.

Hanging in shotgun, running back to his left.

That's hanging.

Play action pass, rolling right.

Throwing right.

Got him, man.

It's

his

brother, but it's over his head.

And it's Pabula on the coverage.

He was there.

I don't know if he was right there, though, but the pass is overthrown.

Doesn't matter.

Second down and 10.

Kind of ran out of time just had to wing it.

I like what they're doing, though, so they have two receivers out right.

Their quarterback rolls right.

Yeah, goes the way it would.

Yes, do that.

Because they don't have a team that can block for four seconds out past either.

No,

you

gotta find ways to get the ball out quick.

You do.

I don't know if I would have ran there though, or thrown.

They ran them all so well last drive.

Come on and try to throw it.

All

right guys, tail back is Koskala.

Hanging under center.

The pitch is to Koskala right hand side.

Oh, he's stocked.

Nice tackle there.

Gained a very little.

Is that going to be homestorming up?

Yes it is.

Dropped him in his track.

No gain.

It's third down and ten.

This is a big play here.

He's 62 heading out there, Logan

Beck.

Conor Guza came limping off a little bit gingerly.

Cramped in there.

That looks like cramped.

Oh my goodness, he's going to throw up.

Hopefully he's

okay.

All right, 4.19 to go.

Third down and ten.

Come on, Glad's going to stop here.

It looks like it's going to be eye formation.

Tail back is Koskala.

Hated it under center and it's a play-action pass looking right-hand side throwing to the deep guy and it is incomplete I believe call it a bound They call it a catch.

It's a great catch by Stanley.

No, it's not that's Wade Costco at number 22 on the grab.

Oh My that was pretty good defense.

He's

there.

He still made the play first down They pick it up on a third and ten.

Oh

I wish

we could have a view of

that.

Yeah, it was hard for us to make the call obviously, because my point of view is way out of bounds, but of course I can't see that sideline at all.

All

right, eye formation.

Hanging in under center.

First and 10.

Top round.

Oh, it's a football!

And it goes nowhere.

He picks it back up, and it's going to be a loss of one.

We'll see where they spot this one would be second down in something or other 345 clock ticking 24 to 6 is the score.

Copper Island lead.

You gotta get it back soon though I think.

Say it again?

You gotta get the ball back soon though I think.

If they march the ball down and score here, I mean we're gonna be deep in the fourth quarter I imagine.

I formation hanging on another center.

Second down 11.

I think that's Kangus in motion towards us.

Pitch is towards us.

Never mind, that's the case, and a nice tackle there.

Number 35 is Cam Logie.

He's played well tonight.

Oh, Ryan was on a mission to

get

there,

too.

He's a good middle linebacker.

I think he's a good player.

We got a third down and nine upcoming.

They just converted a third down and 10 on the last set.

We have three minutes left in the third quarter.

It just feels like Copper Island has just had the ball, which they have for this entire quarter, with the exception of a kick return.

One two-point try.

One two-point try.

All right, they've got double wide receivers.

One of them being Kangus and the other one's being Hananin.

Vince Hananin's in the shotgun.

Wide receivers are towards us on his left.

He's looking left all the way.

He's got time.

Now he throws left to the underneath man.

That's Kangus.

There's a flag in the play.

Oh, Kangus makes a couple guys miss and stumbles up near the first down.

Be a holding call for me there, please, sir.

It's got to be, doesn't it?

Then the back view.

He's a shifty player there.

He probably only had five or six yards.

He turned it into ten.

It's all gonna be academic though, I hope.

And the call is holding offense.

Bring it back.

That probably would have been another first down.

He was right off the stick again.

Nonetheless, they will con out ten yards here.

It's gonna be third down and twenty.

They've got themselves in a couple really good situations now.

There's a first in 20, a third in 10, and now a third in 20.

They have to win this battle right here.

You've got to kind of have an idea at this point in the game what they want to do.

And they've been hitting those dump routes in space.

I was thinking they were going to run that double crossing and throw it underneath, but they're not.

It's a tight formation.

Quarterback is in a shotgun set.

I believe he's got Kangus next to him.

The fake to Kangus are looking to pass.

He's looking right hand

side.

Now he

goes left.

Man, wide open is his brother.

Oh, it's

over his head.

My goodness, that was open.

And that would have been enough for first down, but they can't connect.

And they're going to have to punt on fourth.

And the scoreboard says 18.

I'm not buying that.

My math isn't the best, but there's no way.

A little more.

At least fourth and 19.

We're like fourth and 20.

50.

You just punted right to Brody.

Oh, yep, Brody back there.

See the momentum swung just a little bit.

Yeah.

If the

Gladiators can do something here, this is a dangerous play for Copper Island.

The dangerous guy to kick it to.

If the Glads can kick it to, there's just not much of a rush.

And Babouli is going to feel that.

He's going to catch it at the 49 yard line, goes to his left.

He's at the 40, to the 35.

A little bit of room, breaks the inside.

No, he doesn't.

He's dumped.

Nice tackle.

I got to give credit to somebody if I can team it.

Number 10, that's Vince Haydenin with a great tackle out there.

Nice when

your quarterback can make plays like

that, eh?

Yeah, it's a good

play.

Nice

return by Bamboula though, so he still, it was from the 49 yard line of the gladiator team and he gets all the way up to, you know, with a 33 yard line, they're going to spot that.

About a 15 yard

return, anyway.

Yeah, I thought he was going to have a whole bunch more, but Vince Haydenin made a nice play.

2-0-3 to go third quarter, glad to take over.

We have one wide receiver to the right-hand side that's moiling in.

Holmstrom is at full back.

We've got Wabula at tail.

It's going to be a pitch to Wabula right-hand side.

He's got the edge.

And he's tackled by Hayden in the game, but not after picking up about 14 yards.

It's the first down in a year.

We need more

of that outside pitch.

Just let Ryan find a lane for

him.

Yeah, I saw Ryan actually block the guy in the backfield, but he didn't wipe a guy out, clearing the way for Wabula.

And they managed to turn the corner.

On number 50, that was Calvin Anderson, who was not there that time.

They finally were able to hook him.

And that's what it takes, just a guy to get out there and disrupt.

And when you have a fullback like Ryan, he's going to do that at some point.

Yeah, Mabula's fast.

If you get hit in the edge, he's going to get 10 yards of pop pretty easy.

Eye formation again.

To give it to Holmstrom, he's right at the middle.

Give him a few.

Probably a gain of four, at least three.

He's up to the 15-yard line.

But that's forward, right?

All right, fine.

That's a fine play on first down.

They're going to give him four yards, give or take.

We're at a buck 15 left clock ticking.

It'll be second down and sixth.

They've got it spotted at the 15 yard line.

High formation again.

Holmstrom in the full back.

The blue lead tail.

Fuzzle under center.

Morelin' in white out right.

Nap is good.

Oh, it's give to Holmstrom left hand side.

He's wrestled down.

I think that was my hate in it, but not after he comes really close to another first

round.

I mean, right off the guard, he wasn't even touched.

I don't know if the backers hit each other or what really happened.

Nice play, you're right.

They've had good success with whatever play that is they're running.

And that was Victor Haney in it on the tackle.

Kind of like a trap, but...

I was thinking that might have been a trap.

It's a similar play, but it's off the center.

Yeah.

Alright, first and goal from the 7.

They give it to Holmstrom right hand side.

He's got a long room this time and he's going to stumble almost a touchdown, but not quite.

He's going to be within the one yard line now.

It'll be first and goal from the one.

There's 35 seconds and counting here.

Gladiators knocking on the door.

Got to try to get it in now.

They absolutely have to score.

I mean, they're from the inch line.

They don't score here.

Forget it.

It's 24 to 6, 24 seconds, clock ticking.

This is third quarter still, folks.

We got a lot of time left.

Give us the Holmstrom.

You got to give it to him.

He played really well on this drive.

He scores.

The Holmstrom with a 1 yard TD run.

The Holmstrom, that makes the score 24 to 12.

Just pound your way down in there.

The last 25 yards of the drive, the whole drive was on the ground.

A

lot of Holmstrom on that drive.

I think they found a little something up the middle.

I like that so you go home from up the middle a few times and then Mabula finds the room at the edge and he made a homer.

Yeah, that's exactly how the drag started too and

then... Here we go, Buzzo back to pass right hand side.

Got a man, it's Logie.

What a nice play that was.

For Cam, Logie.

And that makes the score 24-14 right back in it.

That

was a nice throw by Buzzo.

Youngster, sophomore quarterback.

He's pumped up.

And the Glads are pumped up 24-14.

We got a game, folks.

16.3 left, third quarter.

Just like that.

And now a lot of pressure falls right back onto Copper Island Academy.

They're going to need to move the ball.

This game is far from over.

So a lot of time.

See if we can jinx them into a turnover.

They haven't turned a ball over on a kickoff yet today.

Haven't turned it over at all.

You know this is going to be a swimmer of some kind.

I would not kick it cleanly to Victor Hayden.

Imagine his brother's out there somewhere, but I don't know where he is.

Maybe he's not out there.

I wouldn't kick it either of those guys, though, if you can

avoid it.

I'm

thinking you're right.

I don't see him out there.

I do see Kangus out there, though.

I think he's near us at the 40.

Amos,

they're going to kick, and it's going to be a swimmer.

That's going to hit inside the 20, and it rolls out of bounds.

We'll see if I'm right here.

I think you can take it where it goes out of bounds or at the 40.

Or you can make them kick it again.

You can do that, yeah.

Let's see what they've decided.

I'm

going

to more or less guarantee they're not going to take it where it went out of bounds.

Let's see what the referees are going to do.

I think they're just going to take it.

I didn't see them talk to their coach at all.

Or is it the 35 yard line they're going to set it?

It's a legal procedure.

That we agree

on.

I'm wrong on my rules.

They're going to spot the ball at the 35 yard line.

And Copper Island will take over.

First down and 10.

They lead up by 10.

Game is tight enough a lot in the last couple of minutes.

Shock on formation.

Hayden in has got a running back to his left.

I assume that's his brother.

It is.

Give to his brother.

That's Hayden in right.

Oh, he's

jumping the

backfield.

52.

Yep, 52.

Connor Duzik.

Nice tackle there.

Second down and 10.

The defense a little bit fired up all of a sudden.

And that will end the third quarter.

The score is 24-14.

Copper Island lead is Jan Sonaga and Ewan Charles Creek waters meet club.

We'll be back for the fourth quarter in 30

seconds.

Have you been holding off on cutting the cord and saying goodbye to cable or satellite TV?

WKY101 coverage of high school football.

We're about to enter the fourth quarter.

Your fourth core sponsor is the minor state bank of Hansen-Ogen score is 24-14.

Copper Island Academy Eagles are leading the hometown gladiator.

It was 16-0 at the half.

The game is tightened up quite a bit

though.

The

gladiator scored twice late in the third quarter.

Yeah, they're a really good drive from Copper Island.

Great drive to start the third second half.

Hanan is in shock.

That's Kangus in motion.

Fake to Kangus.

They're looking to pass.

Left-hand side with Don.

And he short-arms it as incomplete.

They're attempting to find Wade Kapskala.

And the beauty of that is five seconds comes off the clock.

I don't know why they're not trying to run the ball like they did on that first possession.

And

they've had a lot more success with it throughout the whole game.

I mean, at times they've been able to hit through the air, but why now?

I'm not sure.

Yeah, it's me.

We're going to run the ball like that for a possession.

What do I know?

Shotgun formation, two-wides to the right-hand side.

Hanging in motion.

Bakes a pass to his brother, then he takes off left-hand side with some room.

Nice tackle there, but he got about five or six.

Is that Brody on the tackle, maybe?

I do see Pobolo over there.

Ryan is in on it.

Yeah, Holmstrom just getting up.

Nice Gainer though.

It's gonna bring up a huge play.

We've got a fourth down and probably two.

That's a

Janer.

Maybe a little past the 40, but...

Cole doesn't like this spot.

He's got a moment at the 45.

Once again, that's the first rule of radio.

Nobody cares about you.

Alright, fourth down and two.

11-15 here to go.

This is a huge play, folks.

Gonna be a shotgun.

Wide receivers on each side.

Hayden is going to run with this ball I'm thinking that wide receiver towards us went early Hayden and keeps it left hand side and stumbles past the 45.

I think he's going to have a first down I Thought the wide receiver towards us jumped the gun, but when it jumps again, it doesn't matter what I think 11 minutes left in this game Glad trail by 10 first down and 10 Copper Island.

I'd be shocked.

They don't run the ball here, right?

You got to keep it on the

ground But this is where the defense you

You got to stop that right now, right?

That's

the

last one you're giving up.

You got to come up with a stop now.

He'll be running right hand side.

It's, oh, hey, no, he's drilled by number 12.

Jacob Hurst.

Nice play, the senior.

Just drilled him.

He's shaken up as well, though I think that's down.

No.

No, it's not.

Who is that?

Oh, we got an ankle that's majoring.

He's going to walk off in his own power, but he's favoring his right ankle.

And they gave him the time

now.

We're going to have 10-32 here to go.

Coach Preston Manos helps him over to the sideline.

It's going to be second down in seven when play resumes.

10-32 here left in this game.

All right, here we go.

Copper Island's back in their huddle.

Clock running, 10 and a half.

Got to get this ball back, though.

Deepa answers with God to find a way to get them all back.

They do.

I mean, at this point in the game, you can't give up another score.

Time's starting to matter, too.

Wide receiver is split out on each side.

Hanging in his motion.

He's going to have a give up.

A sweeper to the right-hand side.

He's got the edge.

Oh, and he's stuck, says Mabula.

Nice tackle there.

Gained up a few, but it's going to be third down.

I'd say third and four, probably something like that.

Nice tackle by Mabula.

The little guys on this team, your brother and Mabula both hit.

They have cornerbacks that come up in tackle.

Yeah, they do.

Oh, they call it face mask.

That couldn't have been on the tackle, was it?

I

thought he hit him in the way.

I don't

see how it would have been.

He hit him right at the

hip.

That's got to be a face mask away from that play.

It has to be.

Oh, and that's going to nullify a third down and five.

It'll be first down and 10 instead.

And it turns into a pretty big gain.

The ball is spotted at the 34 yard line of the gladiators.

There's ten minutes and six seconds left and we've got another guy coming up the field gingerly is that number 12 it looks like that first The germ sitting on the bench to he's being looked over by Josh Drew The AD slash physical trainer two wides one of these side kangits in motion Snap is low.

They tried to fake hand off the case.

Oh, he's smashed again.

Nice hit.

No face mask there either.

That was the bullet again

They're picking in and off the ground.

He got there.

Nice hit.

I love it.

Clean head up.

Just go right through.

Brody's getting sick of seeing that play.

He's had enough of it.

Couple nice hits on this drive.

It's going to be second down and nine.

We have nine and a half minutes left in this game.

The ball is at the 33 yard line of the Gladiator.

Got to get a stop.

I'd like to see somebody get in the backfield

here.

That's the biggest issue they've had, stopping to run so far.

They haven't had a whole lot of guys in the backfield.

You know, at times, the edge rushers have made plays, but...

There we go, I formation.

It's gonna be a fake pitch to the left.

Oh, it's that trap.

It didn't work this time.

Kegas is stuffed in the backfield.

Believe that's Holmstrom.

I'd like to guess.

No, it's not.

That's 62.

That's Logan's back.

That met him in the backfield.

Okay.

Hey, we were just talking.

You mentioned that you thought Logan might have that tackle he gave credit to music.

We'll call his name anyway, even a nice play there.

It's 3rd down to 11, 845 to go.

But we just set it into existence.

It's a big

defensive line play.

I want to say that's that trap play, but he beat it that time.

Yeah, and they just kind of bobbled the exchange.

That's all it takes.

3rd and 11, 8.5 to go.

Shotgun set, wide receivers split out on each side.

Kengis in motion to the left.

They're gonna fake to Kengis back to pass.

He's got a slant.

It is covered very well.

He's gonna throw it there anyway.

Nice play, good defensive stand by the gladiators.

And I get it.

The kid's gonna throw the ball, but that was very well covered.

That was double teamed over there.

He

was all over it.

I mean, he had it at the middle of the field when he looked for it.

He had it all the way on this side when he was just throwing up for Hale.

So that's good.

Good coverage.

Great coverage.

And Hanan then makes some of a mistake there.

I mean, it was third down.

He just kind of think, oh, I'm just going to throw it in there and give him the long kill.

Anyway, I did

try to make a play there.

But then again, it's only a third down.

He would have had one more track if he just threw it into the cheap seats or taken off.

And

nonetheless.

He has done that a couple of times.

All right, we've got eye formation.

Buzzo under center.

The pitch is right hand side.

It's a nice block by Holmstrom.

Knocks the guy out.

And a nice 15 yard carry by Baboula up

to the 30

yard line.

And now they're getting big chunk plays all of a sudden.

That's gonna be a first down in ten.

I like the urgency too.

It's kind of all moving.

Moving with a reason here.

They have to show some urgency.

Looks like they're gonna pull pubs off.

Oh, they're gonna pull pubs out.

You're correct on that.

Eight minutes left.

Fuzzle will be under center.

We've got Majorna's a while to the left.

I think that's home strum is at Amon's tail back, I believe.

And the snap is...

Good pitch, they aim us nothing there.

Just everybody in the backfield for Copper Island and that's going to be a loss of a couple.

Execution just not there at all on that one.

No.

They're going to call it a loss, so it's got to be at least two.

The scoreboard says three.

It'll be second down to 13, spot the ball to 27.

We've got seven and a half minutes to go in this game.

24-14, Copper Island leads the Gladiator.

The blue is still on the sideline.

Amos is going to be the tail back.

Buzzo under center, Holmstrom at full back, 720 to go.

And back to passes Buzzo and he's got no time at all.

He's going to try to throw out as he's falling down and he fumbles.

I think that's recovered by the gladiators.

Ooh, that was almost a big mistake there.

Just no time at all there for Buzzo to do anything except for get tackled.

Yeah, just unfortunate.

This drive started so promising with a big gouge play, but now they've gone backwards on back-to-back plays.

We're under seven minutes to go.

Balls at the 19-yard line.

24-14 is the score.

In about 20-21 maybe?

You gotta get 10 yards here.

I mean, they gotta go

for 4 if they think, right?

If they need these.

It's that time of game, I think, where

you go no matter what at this point.

All right, shotgun formation, buzzle back to pass.

He's got time this time.

He's going to throw left-hand side, passes up, and it is batted around.

There's five players there and knocked out of bounds.

Incomplete, Majurian, and Babula were both in the vicinity along with three Copper Island players.

It is fourth down and forever.

Unfortunately, I think they've got a kick here.

I don't think they can just bottom the ball deep in their own territory.

There's only six and a half left, and they need to score twice.

Yeah, I would have liked to see something shorter.

I think you almost

had to.

Instead of trying to get the whole 20, you know?

Well, now they're in it.

They have to get a fourth down and 20 conversion here, 629 left.

After the turnover, they had one big play, but the last several have not gone well.

Two wide receivers, right-hand side.

There's a little confusion out there.

They've got Kamlo, you can line up properly now.

It's three wide.

They're going to call it timeout, I think.

Yes, Hansen-Augen is going to call it timeout.

We'll take it with them.

24-14 is the score.

Glad to hear your trail at 6.29 to go.

Let's come back in 30 seconds.

Welcome back to WKY101 coverage of high school football.

We have 629 left in this one.

The hometown team trails it 24-14.

They've got a fourth in forever, or a fourth in 21 if you will.

Others saying fourth in 20.

I still don't agree with that though.

We'll call fourth in 20 though, that's fine.

They're gonna go four wide, three to the right, one to the left.

Holmstrom is by himself on the left hand side.

He's gonna be by man to man for sure.

Fuzzle back to pass.

They don't have enough blockers for a four-man rush and they did rush four people.

Fuzzle is going to run right.

He's going to try to get the sideline.

He does.

He's to the 30.

He's to the 40.

He's got a first down up to the 45.

You're midfield.

Right at midfield.

What a great run by the youngster.

Fuzzle with a huge play there.

Much needed.

That's about a 30 yard run.

And a huge first down for the gladiators that keep the game

interesting.

Big

play.

and they do indeed spot it right at midfield first and ten gladiators 6-18 to go huge play by the young quarterback there Brayden Buzzo the first down on fourth and forever I formation homes from that full back the tail I assume is baboula back to pass this buzz oh he's got a little bit of time throws right side finds his man that's 35 is who wrote even though he

picked up a block right in the middle of that backfield that probably saved that play

you can walk

heck of a job

They're going to call it an 8 yard gain.

That was Ken Logie, number 35 on the reception.

Clock stops, 6-0-3.

That's a perfect play.

If you're a gladiator fan, they say second and one ball spotted at about the 41 yard line.

And gladiators trail by two scores, so obviously they're going to have to score here.

They're not going to get a whole lot more possessions, I wouldn't imagine.

I formation, buzzle under center.

And it's a pitch and cut back by the Bula right away.

Pretty good defense there by Copper Island.

They held containment at that time.

Had the edge.

They got the first down anyway though, I think.

Yeah, he muffled his way for a couple.

Which does stop the clock for

a second anyway.

Until they spot the ball and wind the clock, so you're right momentarily.

They really have to run play quickly here.

There isn't a ton of time left.

We're at 5.50 to go in this game.

24-14, still the score.

Gladiators marching though.

They've got a first in 10 at the Copper Island 40 yard line Got nine formation one wide split out to the right-hand side The buzzle pitches to Bamboula and the good containment there what an excellent play that was is that number 50 again?

It is that's Clay Anderson with a great tackle on Brody Bamboula He has played well for a majority of the game got beat a couple times in this half, but not on that one What are you checking there needs something to go

forward

Second down in 13.

5-15 and ticking.

One wide out right.

Eye formation.

Buzzo under center.

There's the snap.

Give it to Holmstrom.

Left hand side.

He's got some movement time.

Runs over

a man.

Spins out of a couple more.

He's got himself a nice gain there.

Give him 7.

We're more

than that.

That was second and 13.

Maybe only short by a yard or two.

Depends on where

they spotted.

They've got it spotted.

I think that's at the 42 yard line.

Oh, gain of 10.

That's a nice roll for him.

Pretty good there.

445 to go.

Third down and three.

I have formation again.

Give it to Holmstrom again here.

He only needs three.

And they fake it to him.

Pitch to Babula, but great defense again by number 50.

Oh, he's reversing field.

He's off to the left sideline.

I don't know if he got there or not.

Great defense again by Calvin Anderson.

He shut off that outside run to the right.

And he's out of bounds.

I have no idea where they're going to mark this one.

We'll find out soon.

They're

going to call that a first down.

They did.

They're going to spot that inside the 30.

It's probably 28 yard line, 29

maybe.

That looks like right in the middle.

Yeah.

Torbord says 33.

I think that is wrong.

It's going to be like the 27.

No, Torbord says 23.

I don't think that's right either.

There

they

go.

28 yard line.

I'll agree with that one.

Three wide's right at one left.

First and 10.

Four and a half to go.

Glad it's trailed by 10.

Fuzzles and shotgun.

He's trying to throw right hand side.

Throws it behind his guy.

That was a weird play.

See, Amos actually went in motion and was going to block.

Yeah, just the throw is just a bit behind him.

Couldn't quite get his hands on him.

Not the worst play either, though.

I mean, it's not a negative.

The clock stops.

There's 425 here to go.

You know they're going to skip kick it if they score.

That's a given.

And they have all three of their timeouts remaining.

That might come into play.

Second down to 10.

Three wise to the right.

And what they've been doing is motioning Amos into block here.

And they're going to do that again, I believe.

And they fake the handoff to him.

Buzzo's just going to run all the way right inside.

He's got some room.

Good block up there by Majurin.

Sets him off.

A couple tackles.

What a great run by Brayden Buzzo there.

He's tackled inside the five yard line.

That's going to gain him over 20.

That's a nice little

spin at the end.

Probably added five or six.

He's got 50 yards himself on this drive.

And he sets off the Gladiators with a first down and goal from the five yard line.

We've got 4.15 o'clock running now.

And maybe that's the third or fourth time they've called this number.

And he's made the most out of it tonight.

Give it to Holmstrom here.

And there it is.

No, it isn't.

Keep up Buzzo.

And he's going to run in.

That's a touchdown.

5 yard TD run by Brayden Buzzo.

The sophomore has scored.

And he's made the score 24 to 20.

And usually, two point conversions really matter a lot.

This one, not so much.

Either way, you score a touchdown, you take the lead again after.

It's really going to come down to can they get a stop?

There's only four minutes left in this game.

And if Copper Island will see what they're able to do, unfortunately, I'm going to have to turn the lights on at the next break, too, because I can't see in the booth anymore.

24-20, glad to trail it.

Fuzzle back to pass on the two-point conversion, off the left, and it's going to be dribbled and caught.

That's Logie with a great catch over there.

We're going to stay with it.

And that's his second.

2-point.

2-point conversion.

The score is 24 to 22.

If we do need a little break, you're 24-22.

Stick around, folks.

402 to the left.

We'll do that in 30 seconds.

I

think it's plenty of time, but they are going to need to stop

or

maybe the second turnover of the game wouldn't hurt

him.

Nonetheless, Amos will kick off first.

Don't you dare kick it deep.

He does kick it deep.

It's to the left of Hainan, and he fields it off one hop.

He's to the 15, he's to the 20, looking for space.

He's found it on the left-hand side.

He's still in his feet.

He's going to be up near the 40, but probably at the 37 yard liner.

So, for Copper Island, it'll take over first and 10.

That's

why I like the squid play.

You know, you're already at the 30, 35 when you get it

with

a

chance.

to maybe get them all back.

It's kind of dangerous to kick it deep.

There's just too much room out there.

Every team puts their best athlete back there.

So it's always a dangerous guy.

354

left in this game.

Gladiators have crawled back almost all the way.

One more

time

now.

They're discussing.

They know the situation.

They have to move the ball.

They don't want to give the ball back.

The offense is at Alamogno.

Big play.

Clayton Kin with that.

I'm going to call it a 65, 70 yard touchdown.

Big

return with the spark.

And that just got him off this night.

And since then, they've scored two more times.

22 on

it.

24 to

nothing.

Yeah, it was 24 to nothing.

That's right.

And then he scored to make it 24-6, and they have held Copper Island since then.

I mean, really, it was at Copper Island, their drive to come out in the second half, where they took half the third quarter.

They

haven't done a whole lot since.

Thanks to that, no.

But they did it once, and they've kind of, I don't want to say abandoned the run.

They abandoned the run.

But they haven't been running the ball.

No.

All right.

A lot more passing.

I'd be shocked they don't go back to running the ball more here, though.

You've got high formation, Hayden is under center.

I think his brother's at full back there, it looks like.

We'll see.

Give it to the tail back.

He's out the right hand side.

Not

much there.

Pretty good defense.

Holmström, Baboula.

And we'll see who gets up there.

That was right about that.

It was Kangus that was tailback on that play.

You're going to have credit to Holmström and Baboula on that tackle.

It's a short game, second down and nine.

DJ is right there too.

Now, DJ is playing left end on there, I think, right?

DJ Anderson?

He's right in front of us.

Three and a half year to go and I mean copper island and we saw the crystal falls do this last week And they played a real smart where they ran a clock down a lot every play We'll see how well copper island executes that same idea because that's what you want to do is just eat up the clock is More important than anything at this point.

Yeah And they're taking their time It's gonna be a shotgun set and then he's not gonna get this ball up.

There's no way he's gonna go right hand side

And he cuts up field with a little bit of room, breaks one tackle, and he's tripped up at a nice gain.

It's going to set up a third down in just a few.

And then the other question is, when do you start using your timeouts here too?

Defensively, yeah.

I kind of like the idea of you try to stop them without getting the first first down and then start using them as probably the right play.

I don't know why the clock has stopped here for that matter.

There it goes.

I don't know why it was stopped anyway.

Third down and one.

We've got 245 left in this game.

It's a big play.

It is a short short one.

Yeah Probably barely put the football between the yard marker and the first down marker.

It's got to be pretty tight two and a half here to go

Hayden

ends in the shotgun.

He's waiting for the referee to start counting down the play clock Which he will do right now two and a half to go as they snap the ball.

He's gonna keep it right hand side and he's gonna get the first down Nice hard run there by Vince Hayden in

This is where you got to maybe use your first one?

I think you should right here.

If you wait for three more plays, there's not going to be a whole lot of game left.

There's 220 left on the clock.

It's going to tick down to right around two minutes before they snap this next play.

Might even be under.

I'm thinking it's a 25 second play clock, I believe.

They spotted it at 220.

So we'll see if they snap it here.

We have 205 to go.

Clock ticking.

Referee hasn't signaled the play clock yet.

We're under two.

Shotgun formation.

One more to see where he's side.

Hayden then's got his hands on his hips.

He's not going to snap it until the ref makes him.

Now he's going to 150 left.

Snap is good.

Pass early.

Fake hand up to Kengis.

Hayden then keeps it.

Spins off two defenders and he's got a first down and a gain of a lot as well.

And he's inside the 40 yard line.

Oh, the gladiators.

Oh,

clutch two first downs by Copper Island.

140 to go.

Clock is ticking away.

Again, when do you start pulling the trigger on some of these timeouts?

You have all three.

Yeah, I think.

I mean, you might kind of wait till you get like you win a first down, which they haven't been able to do.

Yeah.

But now you're running out of time where they have to call it after this play, regardless of how this goes down.

Getting the gladiators trail by two but copper island has the ball and there's not a whole lot of time left here 115 left.

They're gonna snap it right around 110.

I imagine Now comes that 112.

Hey man keeping it all the way right inside He's got a little bit of room cuts back.

They're gonna call holding on this That'll stop the clock and move them back.

It looked like he got tackled trying to go through

that hole And it's hard to tell who that is.

It's either Becker That was

Beck.

That was Beck on that one who got

held

Did a great job making it through the gap, just got tackled as he did it.

That's a penetration, like he ruined their play.

If they're kind of forced them to tackle them.

And we

haven't had

enough

of

that throughout the game, I don't think.

No, I gotta give credit, so I mean, Copper Island for second varsity, they played well.

It's hard to discredit them, they played fine.

The Gladiators' first half, I say it was so, so second half they played pretty well.

Just isn't a whole bunch of time left.

It's going to be first down and 20.

Now you have to use a timeout after this play.

And I doubt if Hayden is going to hand this ball off.

It's going to be Vince Hayden in the shotgun.

Two wide receivers right hand side.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't run with this ball here.

His brother's in motion and it's a fake to his brother.

He keeps it right hand side.

He's got just a few actually pretty nice gains.

Probably five or six.

Now here comes the timeout with exactly one minute

left.

How do you break up that play?

You almost have to call a blitz and try to force a fumble or you're going to tackle for a loss.

They're going to be able to call two more timeouts.

First down here would end the game.

So they have to get a stop right now.

Even then, there's not going to be a ton of time, especially for wherever they're going to end up if they do get the ball back.

It's going to be a long field.

Not a lot of clocks left

a figure if they get stops on second and third down They're still gonna be able to run their whole play clock down until four to their fourth down play.

I think right?

So no wait, I'm wrong about that.

It'll be up They won't get to run the clock down.

That's the one row,

but

then so you're figuring still like maybe 40 seconds They have when they get the ball back.

That's not a ton of time But it is

Not over yet either.

It's still time.

But first things last.

They have to get a stop right here.

Second down in 14.

One minute to go in this game.

Gladier's trail by two.

Hannon's going to be in a shotgun set.

He's got Kangus as a wing to his left.

He's going to keep this all the way left-hand side.

Oh, there's a great movement by the Copper Island team there.

Good blocking.

He's up for seven, eight, 10.

And a first down.

And he's going to fumble for a first down.

And Copper Island is going to win a tight game, it looks like.

Glad he just got to call a timeout there, I think.

You just got to give up 15 on a second down run for it.

You notice it came down to this last possession, and only one guy carried the ball for Copper Island.

Yeah.

Number 10, that's Vince Heinenin, or Heynenin, rather.

He had every carry, and he has carried them.

I mean, presumably to a victory, they would need to turn the ball over with a bad snap or something like that here at the end of the game for it not to go that way.

Oh,

and a gladiator.

This was a really good effort in the second half, but it looks like they're going to come up short unless there's a big disaster here.

I've never announced a miracle yet either.

Could that happen?

I don't

know.

Didn't get to announce a game-winning buzzer beater one time, which is pretty cool.

And water is

neat.

Little metal lands action going to happen

now?

That'd be something else, right?

It has happened.

I want to say that play with the Giants years ago was that Kerm Edwards recovered a fumble on a play where they were going to kneel the ball down and score the touchdown.

He just

ran it.

Sit.

Stranger things have happened.

46.5 left.

They're in the victory celebration.

They're just going to have to execute two snaps, and they're going to win this football game.

And Hanan is under center, and he is successfully kneeled one time.

They'll have one more.

Wow, they might do two if they call a timeout here.

I don't know if they're going to bother or not, though.

Unfortunately, they're going to come up short here Labor Day weekend.

It might as well do my shameless plug.

I'll be all around selling 50-50 tickets all weekend.

Please buy them, folks.

We pay for your parade.

prayed prizes and bands and games and it's a fun weekend.

I'll be dressed rather obnoxiously and I'm very loud if you miss me you're blind.

There's 20 seconds left in this game, one more snap and I believe that's gonna do it.

And we witnessed the first ever victory for Copper Island Academy's football program.

They're gonna win this one 24-22.

Good comeback by the gladiators but they're gonna come up short.

And we're going to do a post-game show.

We won't take a lot of time getting back here, though, because I know folks got stuff to do.

It's a friend of mine.

Welcome back.

WUPUI 101 coverage of high school football.

The gladiators unfortunately have fallen to 0 and 2.

They lose to Copper Island Academy 24-22.

Pretty crazy second half though.

It was 16-0 coming into the second half.

Copper Island Academy had a nice drive where they took up, I think it was six and a half, seven minutes on the opening possession.

Wade Costco ended up getting a 15 yard reception from Vince Hainanen that made the score 22-0 and then it was Hainanen to Hainanen that's Vince the victor on the two-point conversion to make it 24-0.

Clayton can't score on the following play.

We're not exactly sure how far it was.

We're going to call it a 65 to 70 yard kick return touchdown.

So a huge play by Clayton made it 24 to 6.

The two-point conversion failed, and that turned out to be a very big deal.

That was a 508 left in the third quarter.

Later on in the third was 16.3 seconds left.

Ryan Holmstrom had a one yard TD run to make it 24-12.

And then Braden Buzzal of the sophomore threw it to Cam Logie for a two-point conversion to make it 24-14.

Buzzo follows that up with a 5-yard TD run, later on to make it 24-20, and then Buzzo to Logi again on the 2-point conversion, making it 24-22.

However, they couldn't get the stop at the end, and Vince Hainan ran every play on that last possession to give Copperhide enough first downs to win the game.

All in all, pretty good effort.

How do the gladiators bounce back from this one now?

Got it, big D.

And it's not like they've played horrible games the first two weeks, it's just been...

only half games that they really played.

The first half they just struggled both games.

I thought moving the ball a lot better in the second half, but that first half they didn't move the ball at

all.

No, like none actually.

I mean they fumbled their opening drive and just kind of didn't get going for the rest of the half.

No, it's been a little bit of a struggle so far this year.
