You know, we did some really good things at Stout.
We looked really good at moments, and we struggled at moments.
We did a lot of different lineup changes and kind of found our groove towards the end.
And so I'm really hopeful for what's to come ahead.

Who do you have coming back this year?
You know, we have a large group coming back.
I have eight seniors.
I have six players that had a lot of artsy experience last year.
So I'm really excited to see what this team can do.
I obviously have senior middle LMIres coming back who's coming off a great season.
My son, Josie Mahoney, is back and she's really doing a good job of quarterbacking the team.
And just a couple other, you know, real important pieces coming back.
Bella Devaney Jr.
is back from injury and she is going to be a game changer for us, I believe.
Our back row is getting really solid with two solid DSs and Kylie Smith and Braylon Tafts.
And I've got some hopefuls and, you know, my outside hitters, a new middle, different right side.
So we've got a lot of options and we've got a lot of depth this year.
Let me take on Darlington, this non-conference tune-up, and I think it's good to have a regular season duel before the conference season starts, isn't it?
Yeah, absolutely.
We're really looking forward to playing Darlington.
I think they have a solid team this year.
Definitely Lily Richie coming back.
She's a solid player, and we're hoping to be able to kind of shut them down and show them what we're made of this week.
So here's the million-dollar question.
How does the Southwest Conference look this year?
You know our conference is always tough.
Platteville's got a lot of great kids coming back.
Richland Center and Dodgeville are definitely will be tough this year, but I'm really hopeful that my team can definitely be in the top part of this one.
We're very experienced and we have a lot of goals.

When you look at down the road, what do you think you're going to have to improve upon, though, if you're going to take that step in the conference?
You know, our biggest thing is we're really working hard on producing on the offense and then cleaning up our defense and our service fees.
And communication is always, you know, a big factor, and we're working on all three of those all the time.
You get into the season a little bit, and it's not too far from homecoming, that kind of thing.
So you really have to hurry up and get ready, because then there's pretty much a match every other night, isn't there?
Yeah, for sure.
Once we jump in, it really is the first week or two.
We have one match, and then it's pretty much two matches a week.
So there's never a lot of time to tweak and change things.
So we're lucky we have five tournaments in a row.
and we can really work on a lot of other options that those compared to on conference nights when we really got to know what we're doing have the set line up and be ready to go because we want both conference wins.
And this is a long ways off but you get to the postseason this year and you know maybe

These teams have played a few in other tournaments, getting into the season by the first duel and it's tonight here, River Valley High School and our first volleyball match of the year on the radio.
The Darlington Redbirds coming in tonight.
and starting out with a two and three record in tournament play and getting into the game tonight here against River Valley and coached by Pam Richie.
It was a very exciting JV match here.
JV won.
It was a JV win for River Valley.
Two sets to one and all three sets were close.
The final one
Number three came down to a 26-24 River Valley win.
So they win the opener here in the high school gym, and now the warm-ups begin for the second match of the night here, and varsity action.
The River Valley Blackhawks coached by Mariah Hill, assisted by Jane Briel, Hannah Olson, Amy Stoddard as well, and they come in with, as mentioned, eight seniors.
A couple of seniors are injured, but they will play
Pretty much all the six seniors that remain and they're all very big contributors to the River Valley Club.
So they look forward to getting the home opener underway here at River Valley High School.

So really a good team effort, some good back row play, and some things to build on.

But again, that's why you play a duel like this before the conference starts on Thursday night against Prairie Duchine.

You know, we did some really good things at Stout.
We looked really good at moments, and we struggled at moments.
We did a lot of different lineup changes and kind of found our groove towards the end.
And so I'm really hopeful for what's to come ahead.

Who do you have coming back this year?
You know, we have a large group coming back.
I have eight seniors.
I have six players that had a lot of artsy experience last year.
So I'm really excited to see what this team can do.
I obviously have senior middle LMIres coming back who's coming off a great season.
My son, Josie Mahoney, is back and she's really doing a good job of quarterbacking the team.
And just a couple other, you know, real important pieces coming back.
Bella Devaney Jr.
is back from injury and she is going to be a game changer for us, I believe.
Our back row is getting really solid with two solid DSs and Kylie Smith and Braylon Tafts.
And I've got some hopefuls and, you know, my outside hitters, a new middle, different right side.
So we've got a lot of options and we've got a lot of depth this year.
Let me take on Darlington, this non-conference tune-up, and I think it's good to have a regular season duel before the conference season starts, isn't it?
Yeah, absolutely.
We're really looking forward to playing Darlington.
I think they have a solid team this year.
Definitely Lily Richie coming back.
She's a solid player, and we're hoping to be able to kind of shut them down and show them what we're made of this week.

How does the Southwest Conference look this year?
You know our conference is always tough.
Platteville's got a lot of great kids coming back.
Richland Center and Dodgeville are definitely will be tough this year, but I'm really hopeful that my team can definitely be in the top part of this one.
We're very experienced and we have a lot of goals.

When you look at down the road, what do you think you're going to have to improve upon, though, if you're going to take that step in the conference?
You know, our biggest thing is we're really working hard on producing on the offense and then cleaning up our defense and our service fees.
And communication is always, you know, a big factor, and we're working on all three of those all the time.
You get into the season a little bit, and it's not too far from homecoming, that kind of thing.
So you really have to hurry up and get ready, because then there's pretty much a match every other night, isn't there?
Yeah, for sure.
Once we jump in, it really is the first week or two.
We have one match, and then it's pretty much two matches a week.
So there's never a lot of time to tweak and change things.
So we're lucky we have five tournaments in a row.
and we can really work on a lot of other options that those compared to on conference nights when we really got to know what we're doing have the set line up and be ready to go because we want both conference wins.
And this is a long ways off but you get to the postseason this year and you know maybe
Yeah I think so our half sectional is going to be a really
Nice run, I hope, and I hope the experience and senior leadership and our depth will really push us far.

So they win the opener here in the high school gym, and now the warm-ups begin for the second match of the night here, and varsity action.

These non-conference matchups during the week like you're used to and I was happy to see some teams getting a chance to play tonight and matching up against teams that are only going to make them better and that's the case for these two teams but the conference I mean it's hard for us as radio stations to cover the weekend tournaments when they're playing in different gyms and cross courts and things like that so we concentrate on the duels and we appreciate it when there are some during the regular season and that's

Ella Myers and her stellar play and all of the aces she had, but there was a couple of instances where the aces, Belladivini had three aces looking back here on set number three, helping River Valley to that large win in that opener.
So really a good team effort, some good back row play, and some things to build on.
I know River Valley didn't get off to a really good start here tonight.
But again, that's why you play a duel like this before the conference starts on Thursday night against Prairie Duchine.
