Welcome back everybody.

Jake Condon here joined by head coach Brett Gervais entering his seventh year as the Lakeland double head coach here and just wanted to quickly go over last season and talk about what happened last year.

You went seven and two in the regular season wound up winning your first playoff game took down a powers north central often a really big title contender in the championships for your division lost to Felton North Dickinson in your regional final but still a top eight finish in division two.

So was there like a big moment or a singular highlight last year that you think

really stood out to you in

your six.

You know, I feel like early on week one was huge and we didn't know it at the time how big it was But you know, we were playing against the state runner-up Dickinson was so good all year.

They went undefeated the only game they lost was their last one So I think week one we were tested early on and it allowed us to really look at the tape and figure out What do we need to switch?

Where do the pieces need to be in order to be successful for the rest of the year?

And so it really helped us and I think that's important to have a really tough

you know, first week, second week, early in the year.

So you're battle tested and you know exactly what you have as the year goes on.

So that was a big week for us.

And then obviously I like our strength to schedule the last few years.

We play tough teams and the league that we play in, the conference for the Great Lakes eight is really tough.

Yeah.

If you look at across the state of Michigan, who's finishing in the top four for division one and two in Michigan,

Phil Nee

a?

lot of teams are from the UP.

So

We've been happy with that, that we're playing high competitive football.

And so, you know, teams like North Central that they're always a threat and they're always scheming things up.

Even last year, you know, we didn't even get a chance to play Crystal Falls Forest Park.

So I wasn't particularly happy that we had a buy, you know, and that's tough for that program there.

But it's always good to play somebody,

Phil Nee

you know,?

so that you're trying new things, you're getting better so that if you're

Um, fortunate enough to make the playoffs that you can at least, um, have the best shot possible.

Absolutely.

I think this season you are playing everybody in your conference if I remember correctly.

Yep.

Yep.

And they restructured, I think a lot of it so that a lot of the teams out east are now a part of a different conference, but I think it's great.

I think our strength of schedules, uh, phenomenal this year.

That was something I did want to ask about is you haven't actually played anything since the 2019 season.

Uh, there was a lot of history between these two teams back when they were both playing 11 man football, but since the shift to eight VA for a lot of the local teams.

You haven't been able to run into this team in the past seven years, actually.

So this is your first line matchup against them as head coach.

I don't know how much you've actually been able to get exposed to their lineup, see what they're all about.

But is there anything in particular that you've seen that stands out to you?

Yeah, the biggest thing is their offensive set.

When you watch their offensive set, that's a swimming football.

They do exactly the things that they were doing back when they were winning state titles under Coach Olson.

There's a lot of consistency with the things that they're doing and their teaching.

And even though last year didn't pan out as well for them, you know,

Phil Nee

there?

was a lot of games where they were in them.

And even against some really powerful teams that made runs last year,

They weren't getting blown out like anybody else was they were in those football games You know even week night against Pickford.

It's a game at halftime and so I think that they're a hungry football team They have a ton of pride in what they're doing with their program And so I think that it's really smart by them to stick to their guns and do what they know And so that that's the first thing that I noticed with them and I was actually on the staff back when we played them an 11-man football

In the playoffs in our last year of 11 man and that was a tough game You know I learned that was my first time in ishmaning for a game and they just had a really tough team that year and I learned more about ishmaning football and just that two hours that we were out there that I could read about or hear about so I think it's it's a really good thing that we're facing them again and a Program that I think that they take a lot of pride in it.

So We're lucky to be be able to play them week one

Well, take a look at your roster, too.

I mean, you have a lot of seniors coming into this lineup, a lot of big players.

The Oxford twins, excuse me, all entering their 12th grade year.

Josh Davatella on your roster as well.

Do you think that there are any players that you expect to take a really big jump this year going into maybe their senior season?

Maybe they're just really looking to make a big leap over the offseason?

Yeah, the three captains that we have right now with Tyler Axford and Josh Davitella and Brady Axford, they were all in in the offseason and so I'm hoping that they take the senior step.

They already had leadership qualities last year so I know that they can lead the team but I want to see them be more consistent with being dominant and I think I've tried to hold them to that standard and push them in the offseason the last seven, eight months.

Other guys Blake Lebo had a really good offseason and is going to play quarterback for us now Last year he did a really nice job under center.

I'm just not so sure he was fully ready for it You know to endure the entire season So now he prepared himself really well to take that roll on and really flourish in it and the same thing for him on defense You know, he's going to slide in and play on defense for us.

So I'm excited to see what he can do

Charlie Hanell, he's gonna play center for us and he got reps last year at center kind of splitting time So now we're asking a lot of him.

So I think he's due up for a big performance and then finally Lucas Axford, okay?

He's the other triplet with Tyler Brady.

He's a guy that missed a lot of football early on because of injuries I think he's ready for his final like breakout.

He's doing really well Everybody's noticing him a lot more and I think that he's prepared a lot in the offseason get himself faster and more prepared for football

Because he's a track star too, so it's hard to pick and choose with all these sports that these guys play.

All right,

and then one last question for you, just if you know that a team sees you on their schedule, if they know that they have you on their radar, what do you want other teams to think about like Lindenhubble football?

I want them to be thinking it's going to be a physical battle.

I want them to be thinking the same thing I think when I see Ishweming, you know, where I'm thinking they're going to bring it up front.

And if you don't have your crap together on the defensive line or on your offensive line, you're not winning the trenches.

You're in trouble.

Okay.

The other, you know.

the deep passes and all the fancy stuff that you want to talk about that that's fine to worry about a team in like an air raid offense and stuff but I want people to look at us and say upfront they have their crap together and they're going to bring it it's going to be a physical four quarters and we better buckle up.

I'm hoping that that's what our team is able to bring this year.

Looking forward to seeing you in action coach Brett Chervais thank you so much for your time here and wish you luck in your first game.

Thank you very much.

Welcome back everybody.

Coaches interview brought to you by Superior Service here with Ischby Hematite's head coach Mike Lyman.

Coach Lyman just a couple questions for you getting into today's kickoff game last season.

It was a two and seven record bit of a down year, but three really close games in that loss column.

How are you trying to stay in close games going into this

Joel Karnick

season??

Well, we're bringing back a more mature group, so hopefully that makes a difference.?

I think we got a couple of young guys that are coming along to his butt.?

Yeah, just not turning the ball over.?

Gotta finish plays, gotta finish blocks, just overall.?

All right.

Going into this year, you're seeing a conference realignment.

You were in the Great Lakes East last year, heading into the Great Lakes West this year.

Should cut down on some travel time for you, but you're going to be running into some powerhouses in eight on eight football this year.

A lot of teams like Crystal Falls, Powers, Lake Linden.

Do you think this is going to be a good thing

Joel Karnick

or a bad thing for your team in the long run here??

It's a great, I mean, it's a good thing.?

I mean, all three of those programs are great programs.?

I never, I'll never say anything bad about playing good programs.?

Absolutely.?

All right.

And then going into this season, it's been a long time since we've had a local team face off against you guys.

So are there any key players that you want to highlight for us going into today's game?

Joel Karnick

I mean, all of them.?

I'm not going to go down the list and name all the stars.?

Every player is key.?

If the guys up front don't block, then the backs can't run.?

And if the guys up front on the D-line don't do their jobs, then the linebackers and safety's going to make plays.?

All?

right, coach.

And one last question for you.

Going into this game, I ask both teams this.

Just going into this game, if a team sees you on their schedule, what do you want them to think about it?

It's going to be hematite football.

Joel Karnick

Well, you kind of brought up just good program, good solid program.?

I want people to think it out about us.?

All right, absolutely.?

Coach Lemon, thank you for your time.?

Thank you.?

Excuse

me, brought to you by Q1A Automotive.

For the Lakeland and Hubble Lakes, I've got to go pretty simple here today.

I think it's going to be the quarterback, Blake Lebo.

Going into last season, you heard head coach Brett Gervais talk about it during his coach interview.

maybe not quite ready to take on the full-time quarterback role, but the coaching staff for Lake Lindenhubble seems very excited about the progress he's made over the past year, and they're looking forward to seeing how he can develop in that quarterback position over the course of the season.

Of course, also the Axford Triplets on the Lake Lindenhubble roster, Brady, Lucas, and Tyler, all really big athletes, really

The power impact players or so I've heard for this team So looking forward to seeing how they perform on the field today for the ishpaming hematites looking forward to seeing Madden Gouthier, sorry taking a look at the bunch of the players on the roster here Dax Kakari as well number 14 is gonna be playing running back and defensive back for the hematites and their quarterback sorry Kean Gouthier is the one that will be likely the starting quarterback as we head into today's game

About four minutes to go until kickoff now.

Let's take a look at our Forecast for the game the game day forecast brought to you by buckos party store in Houghton, Michigan Looks like it's gonna be 68 degrees and sunny for basically the entire duration of this game Small chance of rain later tonight that might wind up interfering with the game and it does look like there are some pretty dark clouds coming in the sky So we'll have to see if we get any kind of rain going into today's matchup But for now everybody here is ready and excited not seeing any umbrellas near and

fans in attendance today everybody seems excited for high school football to get going in the Kiwanaw in the next few minutes about three and a half minutes to go on the timer and tell kickoff and just getting around to take a look at all these players it's a very exciting time in the air a lot of the students from Michigan Tech have recently moved back in to start another year at the University so all of a sudden the Houghton Hancock area is buzzing once again after a quiet summer

You can see some more fans trickling into the stands, some cheerleaders for the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes as well.

Going to be a very exciting game as the lakes huddle up on their sideline, getting ready to get going in today's matchup.

Going back to the coaches interviews head coach Brett Gervais Very excited to get going in this season Obviously they've had a lot of success in the past a storied successful program made the switch to eight-man football very recently But so far in the past few years they've had some success in it have won a district championship seen the playoffs quite a few times Ishpeming obviously also a very successful program in the past but

The past couple seasons have been a bit tougher for the Hematites to get going as they get ready.

You can hear them or not hear them, but see them on the opposite side of the field all huddle up as well.

Getting one last pep talk from the coaches as they get ready for today's game.

The air buzzing here at Sherman Field, the Curly Stadium as the fans get ready.

before we get into today's action.

I do want to thank a couple more of our sponsors.

Players lining up on the sidelines getting ready for the national anthem.

as both teams getting ready for kickoff here for another season of high school football in the Kiwanaw.

Again, for those of you just joining us, Lake Lindenhubble versus Ishpeming today.

The lakes won the toss and deferred, choosing to play defense first today.

Hematites, excuse me, will receive.

Looks like both teams are getting ready to Prepare for the national anthem as they take the sidelines here Reverie crew unfortunately.

I don't have any of their names ready today But sitting near midfield getting ready for the game to start as well chain crew out there The stands filling up quite nicely for this game As the clock hits zero believe we'll start the national anthem and then get this game underway

Unfortunately, it sounds like our audio channel not working for the national anthem as the players get ready, but introductions on the field are getting started now.

These teams have faced off three times before, at least in the recorded history I was able to find.

Ishpeming wins all three.

Two of those matchups came in 2019 in opening week of

in 11 on 11 football season for both of these teams where Ishman won I believe 36 to 34.

Then later on they won a playoff game I believe for the district championship in the 2019 season.

Both teams very good that season but the hematites able to prevail and advance further in the playoffs in that season.

View from the press box today brought to you by Uncle's Restaurant of Hancock, obviously, for anybody who's made the trip out to Sherman Field at Curly Stadium, an absolutely beautiful venue here in Houghton, Michigan, the usual home of the Michigan Tech Huskies.

And now the audience stands to get ready for the national anthem.

I'll fill you in more on the view from the press box afterwards.

Fans

and players ready here in Houghton.

for the start of the football season.

View from the press box again.

Some dark clouds on the horizon, but an otherwise beautiful day here in Houghton.

So right now the field lit up, sun casting down on it quite well as both teams huddle up on their sidelines getting ready for kickoff.

Just a couple moments away from the start of the high school football season here in Houghton.

For those of you just joining us, Lake Lindenhubble, lakes taking on the Ishweming Hematites.

Lake Linden going to kick off as they take the field.

Getting set up, it's going to be number eight for Lake Lindenhubble, Tyler Axford, who will be kicking off to start the season.

Hematites also take the field now.

Neither team will Lake Lindenhubble.

Technically the home team here, but neither playing in a stadium that's very familiar got a chance to talk to some of the Lake Lindenhovel staff before the game started I don't believe any of them have had the chance to play a game here with the lakes before Hematite set up ready to return as the lakes get into formation Getting ready to return for the Hematites.

I believe is number two Derek Meyer

And here comes the kick from Axford and we are underway.

High school football going here in Houghton.

The return from the Hematites breaks a tackle and going to go down taken down at about the 35 yard line.

The fans here excited to see the season get underway as the offensive unit takes the field for the

Hematites.

As the players get set, waiting to get into their offensive formation.

Conveying the huddle, number two, Derek Mayer, still out there, who had just returned the kick.

Into his left, the quarterback, who I'm having trouble seeing the jersey number at the moment.

Takes the snap,

Quarterback draw, number 14, Dax Kakari on the QB sneak gains about four yards, streaked off to the right-hand side, didn't find a ton of headway, but at least able to pick up positive yards, it'll be second down at about seven.

Kakari at 12th grader, listed on the depth chart as a running back and a defensive back.

Interesting to see if he will take extended snaps at the quarterback position.

Now it looks like he's going to line up wide.

some trickery to start here for the Hematites trying to get the lakes off guard and now it is Key and Gauthier out there in the quarterback position.

Nobody lined up as a running back.

Two players out wide.

One behind the offensive line.

Lake Linden showing blitz.

They're going to send four.

Wide open over the top of the field.

Number two Derrick Byer breaks off.

Number five for Lake Linden trying to catch him.

Not going to.

That is a touchdown for the instrumenting Hematites.

Derek Meyer, nobody covering him over the middle of the field.

Lake Scott Gutsy there, sent to Blitz.

And the Hematite's able to respond quickly, seizing the opportunity for an early touchdown just over a minute into this game.

Six-nothing, Ishpeming.

As they line up.

And I believe they're going to be going for a two-point conversion here.

Yes, they are.

Gauthier lined up next to number 14 Dax Cackery once again Both leaning in like they were gonna take the snap it's a fake Gauthier trying to push through the line and it looks like he's going to be stopped that is no good So missing the two-point conversion are the ishpaming hematites after the quick touchdown and now keep the score at 6-0 in favor of ishpaming

Lakes took the gamble there, chose to defer the kickoff, sending the hematite to the ball.

And in just two plays, Ishpeming makes them pay with a very early touchdown.

10.57 on the clock, six to nothing in favor of Ishpeming.

As the Lakes coaching staff tries to get ready to receive this kickoff and get the offense going, need to respond early.

Again, this is eight on eight football.

Score can quickly get out of hand.

So the lakes want to make sure that they keep close to the hematites here while they are down.

Hematites ready to kick the ball and send it back towards the lakes as they get ready for their first run.

And it will be number five, Keon Gauthier again.

kicking for the hematites.

He's been everywhere and doing everything so far today.

Two returners in the backfield for the lakes, number two.

Excuse me, almost looked at the wrong depth chart there.

I believe that's actually number three Lucas Axford next to number five, his brother Brady.

Both back ready to receive the kickoff.

Here comes the kick from Meyer.

Or, uh, gout the air, sorry.

Kick is up and away, it's a squid kick!

And the play is whistled dead immediately, flagged down.

Waiting to see what this will be.

I heard a legal procedure from one of the referees on the field there.

Don't believe that's gonna be called...

on any individual player.

But that is the first penalty of the game, and penalties for today's game are brought to you by Kiwanaw Automotive.

Don't be penalized for bad service.

See Kiwanaw Automotive celebrating their 40th year of service this year.

Squib kicks.

An onside kick attempt was more like it.

That really didn't go very far at all.

It looked like an attempt to quickly get another possession back on the lakes, but it was quickly whistled dead by the officiating crew here.

And we're gonna see another onside kick, but it's quickly recovered and the lakes will maintain possession.

Number 81 for the lakes there.

Charlie Heynalt able to make the recovery.

I think what happened on that first onside kick attempt is it was immediately dribbled into the ground.

That was the only difference that I saw.

That second onside kick lofted quite a bit more into the air.

I didn't notice anything wrong with either formation during that time.

But now the lakes take the field.

And we now see Brady Axford lined up as the running back behind Blake Lebo, excuse me, number one.

And it's a direct snap.

Brady Axford breaks one off.

He's going to gain about five yards.

He is met at the outside by number 11 for Lake Linden.

That's going to be Ben Meyer.

And it will be second down.

And the officiating crew will call it second and four.

Lakes started this drive in very favorable position due to the onside kick.

They started with the ball at the hematite 45-yard line, now sitting at the hematite 39.

Second and four.

Ishpeming ahead, six to nothing.

Lakes want to score and keep this drive going.

Brady Axford lined up as the quarterback.

Takes the snap, a direct scramble again.

Breaks past the line.

Nobody gonna beat him.

15-10!

Five, he is tackled!

What a nice chase down save there!

Number five!

And that's going to be Kian Gauthier again!

Another impact play.

Four Kian, the 10th grader out there making big plays.

Quarterback kicker, defensive back able to chase down.

Number five, Brady Axford.

Very quick player who's been taking some direct snaps.

He is labeled as a running back on my depth chart And now number one takes the direct snap hands it off to Axford Axford gets piled up and Will be brought down at the two-yard line for second down and goal Number one Blake Lebo did take the snap there.

He's coming off the field at least for the

moment

And it looks like he will re-enter after receiving the play call.

Wildcat action from both teams.

Players listed as running backs on the depth charts, taking a lot of direct snaps so far.

Lebo under center.

Cute quarterback sneak right up the middle, and he is going to get in for the touchdown.

Lakes quickly tied the game back up.

A breakaway run by Brady Axford making up most of the distance there and the lakes make it six to six.

It looks like they're going to be going for a two-point conversion as well.

Brady Axford coming back to the rest of the team to relay the play call here.

This would be a great opportunity for the lakes if they can find a two-point conversion here.

Lebo once again lined up under center.

Brady Axford in the backfield.

His brother Luke is lined up wide.

The toss out to Brady.

It's fumbled and he is going to take the ball and be tackled out of bounds.

That is going to be another missed two-point conversion so far.

Both teams with quick touchdowns but not able to pick up any points after.

Six to six.

Lakes and Hematite's tied, ishpaming to receive the kickoff after these quick messages.

Welcome back everybody six to six lakes and hematites currently tied in this one Hematites, excuse me First quarter brought to you by Ryla kitchen.

You just heard their advertisement there during our commercial break But six to six right now under three minutes gone in this game both teams already with a touchdown Lakeland and kicker Tyler Axford back out there trying to send this ball down the field and That is gonna be more of a proper squid kick.

They're actually not recovered

by the first player to touch it, that's Dax Cackery, but a quick return here by number one, Donovan Snyder, almost broke that one away, brings it back to the 45 yard line, but is brought down by his legs, and now first down, starting a fresh drive here for the Hematites.

Some trickery, some running back direct snaps to start their drive last time.

We'll see what the hematites have in store for us now Derek Meyer lined up Next to key and gout here again Tight end motions left.

It's gonna be a snap.

I Believe to Ben Meyer that time or no, sorry that was Dax Cackery who did take the direct snap ran right up the middle gained about two yards.

It'll be second in eight

for the hematites.

Kakari heads back to the sideline to pick up the play and he'll actually sit this one out as it looks like Keen Gouthier will take the snap here at quarterback.

No one lined up wide, a tight formation here for the hematites.

Waiting on the snap and that is going to be

Gauthier taking the snap again.

Gets back to the line of scrimmage, maybe a yard or so further up, but it's going to be third down and about seven yards to go here for Ishpeming.

Not able to find that breakaway play quite yet like they did on their first drive.

Key and Gauthier.

Quarterback so far.

Ishpeming's formations have involved two players lined up side by side so far with the center basically choosing to snap to one or the other.

I don't think either is really favored in a quarterback position.

They both seem to be lined up about equidistant from the center.

An interesting formation here.

Gouthier takes the snap, throws a pass, completed.

And that'll be to number two, Derek Meyer.

A quick pass there.

able to gain about five yards, but is going to be short of the first down.

It's going to be fourth in about one and a half yards.

Hematites in trouble here.

Need to convert on this fourth down and keep the pedal down on offense.

Lakes defense looking for a sack.

We're just looking to meet the Hematites at the line.

Gauthier doesn't take the hand off.

It stacks.

Cackery breaking one away.

And again, the direct snaps have been working very well today for the hematite.

That's a run for about 18 yards off to the right-hand side.

Breaking past the lake's defense lined up tight.

They were expecting a run up the middle to secure a safe and easy first down.

And Ishtraming surprises them with a big run to the outside once again.

Oh, and there's a late penalty.

I believe that was a hold.

It was called on the hematites.

And yeah, they're gonna get backed up ten yards.

This is gonna be a long fourth down play all of a sudden.

At least for the moment, the offensive unit appears to still be out on the field.

Haven't seen any substitutions and that was a hold on offense.

That explains why... ...Kakuri was able to break off the line so cleanly.

And now fourth in about eleven and a half.

A much more desperate situation.

Two players lined up wide for the hematites now.

Kemper Gerhardt, one of them, the one closest to the near side.

Gouthier, shotgun, takes the snap.

Looking for his man, throws it underneath and gets met by two Lake defenders.

Derek Mayer never had a chance to save that one, and that is going to be a turnover on downs for ishming.

Lakes take possession of the ball around midfield.

About 647 left the game tied six to six Hematites have had two possessions on offense the first one a touchdown on two plays The second stalls out on a turnover on downs at midfield And now the lakes offense Lake Linden Hubble getting ready to try to take the lead for the first time in this game The halfback Brady Axford lined up deep

As the quarterback takes the snap wide receiver screen Tyler Axford takes it gets past one man But it's tackled quickly a gain of about five yards on the wide receiver screen and that will result in a second down and short Or second down on about five Lakes I'm sure would be happy to just take some time off the clock slowly move down the field here They can keep picking up five or six yards of play I'm sure they'd be happy to do so

as the teams head back to the line of scrimmage.

Now seeing, I believe that's number 10, Alfred Milky lined up as a fullback, and he's going to be a blocker there for Axford.

Axford snakes back up the middle, gets past almost every single player, just the safety remaining.

I believe that was number 11, Ben Meyer.

who gets the tackle and saves the touchdown for the Hematites.

Brady Axford saw a hole to cut back inside.

That was supposed to be a half-back toss, but takes advantage of the opening in the line.

Able to gain about 12 or 13 yards there.

Nice run for Brady Axford having a fantastic day so far.

Doing a good job of mixing in some direct snaps.

Trying to run to both the inside and outside.

Haven't seen many pass plays from the lakes yet so far.

Lebo takes the snap, hands it off, and that will be number 40.

Or sorry.

Number 10, excuse me, Josh Davatella.

Whoa.

Oh, sorry about that, everybody.

I got a last second adjustment on my depth chart.

Josh Davatella listed on my depth chart as number 33.

He changed his number to 40.

So that was Josh Davatella, one of the team captains, 12th grader.

Splitting time as a running back and a linebacker.

I believe he was the one out there running as a fullback on a previous play.

Six foot one Josh Davatella.

Big man ready to block for Brady Axford can take the ball himself and do some damage up the middle.

Lebo under center fakes the handoff to Axford and keeps the ball himself a quick dump off pass.

Bobble been caught by Brady Axford after the fake handoff.

Really nice play there by the lakes.

Axford and Zavatella both lined up behind Lebo.

He fakes the handoff to Brady, fakes the handoff to Josh, and in that time rolls out to his right, finds Brady.

Axford opened down the field after the fake handoff, gains nine or sorry about five yards on that play.

Gonna be third down and one now for the lakes sitting at the 16 yard line.

Again this score still tied six to six four and a half minutes left in the first quarter.

Lebo under center both backs behind him.

Handoff goes to Josh Davitella and he's gonna break past the line gain about six yards and it's gonna be first and goal on the eight yard line.

As it looks like where the chain crew is gonna place it.

Yeah first and goal on the eight for the lakes.

A very nice offensive drive here.

Consistently earning yards on every play, broken off a few for 10 or 15.

Lakeland and Hubble really feeling it so far.

Four and a half minutes to play now in this first quarter.

Lakes looking to take the lead for the first time in this game.

Hematites received the ball to start the first half.

Quickly scored a touchdown, Lakes responded, and now the Lakes on their second offensive drive looking to take the lead.

Same formation.

Lebo fakes the handoff to Davatella, hands it to Axe where he's going to go up the middle, gain about two yards.

Second down and goal at the five now for the Lake Linden Lake, Lake Linden Hubble Lakes, excuse me.

I want to make sure I get that right.

A lot of really good players in this program have come from Hubble.

It's tempting to shorten it to Lake Linden Lakes, have the nice quick alliterative name, but Hubble a very important part of this school's heritage.

Heading back out there.

Lebo gonna line up under center.

Axford and Davatella both lined up.

Split back formation here.

Lucas Axford lined up wide.

Lebo takes the snap, hands off to Josh Davatella.

He's gonna gain about two yards, third in goal from either the two or three yard line.

In that goal line situation, you'd think they're gonna use Josh Davatella's size just to try to send something right up the middle against this hematite defense.

But we've seen a lot of variety in both offensive schemes so far in this game.

Lakes line up, Lebo once again under center, Davatella in it full back, Axford at the half back.

Lebo takes the snap, going to Axford, keeps it himself, the nice fake handoff.

I didn't even see it up from the press box, but a nice read option there.

By Blake Lebo makes the correct read, runs to the outside, and that's a touchdown for Lake Linden.

12-6 now.

Lake Lindenhubble lakes in front of the Ishpeming hematites.

And the lake's going to attempt a two-point conversion here.

Two drives, two touchdowns so far for Lake Lindenhubble.

Let's see if they can tack on the two-point conversion to make it a clean 14.

Axeford lined up his quarterback looking for a direct snap.

Three players lined up wide.

Axeford just goes straight up the middle and he walks right in for the easy two-point conversion.

I don't think he was even touched until he crossed the goal line.

That'll make it 14 to 6 in favor of the Lake Lindenhubble lakes, ishping hematites.

Only six points to speak up, but about to receive the ball with three minutes to go in the first quarter.

We'll be right back for that in just 30 seconds.

Gino's family-owned restaurant in Hancock invites everyone in to see what's new and exciting, including walleye bites and new pesto bread dippers.

Gino's has a great selection of winter drinks from the cocktail menu, including the new green grinch and Rudy's red-nosed fizz that's loaded with exciting flavors.

Plus, of course, all of Gino's traditional drinks, including Tom and Jerry's hot-buttered rum and mocktails.

Hours at Gino's is 11 to 9, Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Monday.

The Lakes just took the lead, 14-6 over the Ishmael Hematites, 2-55 to play here in the first quarter as the Lakes run back out there getting ready to kick off and send it back to Ishmael for their third drive of the game.

Brady Axford breaking off a couple of big runs on that last drive for the Lakes, the 12th grade running back slash cornerback.

Haven't gotten a chance to see much of him on defense yet, but a very solid job so far.

Blake Lebo also making a very nice read on a read option to earn the lakes that touchdown on third down and goal.

And now it'll be Tyler Axford kicking the ball back to the hematites.

And he sends the ball, it's gonna be a squib kick.

And it's going to be recovered by the returner.

Oh, bobbled by the returner, but eventually recovered.

Brought down quickly afterwards in about the 32-yard line.

Believe that was number 12, Kemper Gerhardt, who wound up picking up the ball there.

And now the Hematites will head back out on offense once again.

First drive, a touchdown on two plays.

A broken run by Derek Meyer from about 50 yards away.

But the second drive wound up stalling out a turnover on downs and midfield after a holding call Stopped what would have been a big run on fourth down and two Hematite's lined up Cackery lean down as if he's going to take the snap Takes it runs inside gonna gain a few yards

And get tackled quickly just ran up the middle on the inside actually Derek Meyer the one who took the snap there Difficult from this angle and this far away to actually make out the players names on their jerseys Apologies for that folks, but Derek Meyer the one who gains about two and a half yards on that first down run up the middle It's now cackery and key and gout the air lined up

Next to each other as quarterback and running back everybody else on the offensive line Both players lean down It's gonna be gout the other takes the snap quickly met in the backfield able to shake off three or four tacklers so far But eventually gonna get chased down out of bounds and brought down by the captain Josh Davatella A tackle for a loss of about five yards

Credit to Gouthier for surviving that long.

The 10th grader out there having to evade three or four tacklers and just had no daylight in front of him off on the left-hand side of the field after the designed quarterback run.

And Davatella making his presence felt on offense and defense in the last few minutes.

Clock stopped at 159.

The tackle was out of bounds.

It's now third down in 10.

After the tackle for Losio races the games from first down Timeout called by the hematites a minute 59 to go Big situation here for Ishpeming after such a nice start to the game a touchdown again on your second play of the game on offense The Lake Lindenhubble Lakes defense has answered and mostly stifled

the hematite offense.

The Lakeland and Hubble cheerleaders begin their set down on the field, both teams huddling up, discussing how to attack this crucial third down and ten ball sitting at the 33 yard line.

Again, lakes up by eight, the score 14-6 over Ishpeming, a minute 59 to go in the first quarter.

The game is still very young.

But so far the lakes have had all the momentum on offense outside of those first couple plays of the game Both coaches taking a while to address their players here using up all the time they can and this time out Want to have all their bases covered Players take the field again Likely a similar formation here.

No, it's going to be Keen gout here lining up

As the quarterback and I believe Kakari is going to be lined up wide Number one Donovan Snyder in the slot as a receiver looking to pass here are the hematites Lined up on the far left hash a long way to go third and ten Gal the air takes the snap quick corner blitz coming not much room has to scramble to the outside He has some room gets outside met near the first down marker

By Brady Axford another of the Axford triplets two of which are team captains and they are going to give a favorable ruling to key in there He is just barely gonna have the first down hematite to move the chains First in 10 on the 44 yard line still in hematite territory a Long way to go to pay dirt here ishpaming wants a touchdown badly try to tie this game up before the score gets out of hand

Two back formation again.

Gouthier takes the snap.

Kackery going for a block.

A huge sack brought down by Josh Davatella and Brady Axford.

Combining there for a sack just went right through the hematite offensive line.

And no chance for that run to even develop.

14, Dax Cackery trying to be a leading blocker there as he was looking for his man.

The line had collapsed behind him.

And just like that the play brought down.

It's going to be second down and 14 now back to the 40 yard line are the hematites.

Probably going to have to look to the air pretty soon here but again they have their two back formation.

Both players down like as if they're going to take the snap.

And it's going to be...

Gauthier on a direct snap runs right up the middle gains about two yards But still gonna be third and long here for the hematites Hoping to find a hole up the middle on that play but not able to get anywhere Clock at 20 seconds left in the first quarter still ticking down Does not look like ishman is in any rush to get a playoff before the end of the quarter

10 seconds left on the clock.

They do head to the line.

Might be just trying to get a lakes player to jump here in these final few seconds.

Five seconds now.

Three, two, one, and that will be the end of the first quarter.

Lake Lindenhubble lakes up on the ispimming hematites.

The score 14-6, but ispimming with the ball.

We'll be back for the start of the second quarter after these messages.

Gouthier takes the ball steps back looking deep three players coming for him Tries to throw it deep over the top to Derek Meyer, but did not have the time with all the pressure in his face Meyer actually had his man beat on the outside by the looks of it That was Blake Lebo in coverage But I think Lebo after he saw the ball up in the air was looking more for an interception than anything fourth down in 11 now for the hematites

In dire straits here, and it looks like they are going to choose to punt this time on fourth and long.

Lucas Axford lined up the track star that coach Brett Gervais was talking about in our pregame interview.

The punt coming from the hematite is going to be up.

Caught by Axford in stride, has a lot of room in front.

Blocks don't develop, unfortunately.

He's gonna get brought down hard by number 57, Colin Gabbary for the hematites and the lakes will start this drive at about the 42 yard line.

The first big hit of the game that we've seen, collision of the game brought to you by Mayo Collision Clinic of Barraga.

Your collision specialist in Barraga County.

Lake's beginning their third drive on offense in this game.

The first two ending in touchdowns, the second had a two-point conversion, making the score 14-6 in their favor over Ishpeming.

Brady, Axford and Blake Lebo have been the pair taking snaps in the backfield so far.

Lebo lined up under center with Josh Davatella and Axford behind him.

Lebo takes the snap, a toss out to Axford.

Axford, Jake's back inside.

Breaks a tackle, but quickly met by the rest of the hematite defense after a gain of about four yards on that half-back toss.

Second down, and they're going to rule a five-yard gain, so second down and five now at the Lake's 48-yard line.

Lake's head back to the line now.

Same formation.

We've been getting used to Lebo under center.

Davatella full back acts for the half back Davatella takes the snap from the handoff of Blake Lebo and he's gonna get close to the first down He may have gotten it waiting to see the ruling on the spot from the officiating crew And it looks like he has just enough to pick up the fresh set of downs as the chain crew moves the chains And that'll be a fresh set of downs now at the hematite 46 yard line

Lake's back in Ishpeming territory.

Lake Lindenhubble again.

Very solid on offense so far.

Offensive line has held up their blocks.

A loud Brady Axford who now lines up under center to have some serious opportunities in the running game.

Let's see what he can do in the passing game now.

Ball's going to be quickly handed off to Tyler Axford.

Tyler breaks free of one tackle but is brought down after a gain of eight.

Lake's offense continues humming.

Brady Axford lined up with Tyler off to his right, usually a tight end, but flipped the ball over to him after taking the snap.

And Tyler found a little bit of room to run.

And that is going to make it second down and two.

We're a very long one, according to the scoreboard.

Lebo back out lined up under center Tyler X or sorry Brady Axford lined out.

No, excuse me keeping track of all three of them is a bit tough Brady Axford takes the snap on the handoff And able to gain about six yards.

That's gonna be enough for the first down It's what the lakes wanted in that situation.

They're gonna move the chains once again Lucas X for the one lined up wide apologies

But so far it's mostly been the Brady Axford show, a few big plays from Blake Lebo, and Josh Davatella mixed in as well.

In that interview that we had earlier on the broadcast, Coach Gervais was talking up all three of his captains, so far they're all making big impact plays as needed.

And now Davatella lined up as the quarterback.

This is an interesting play.

Four players lined up wide.

Davatella takes the snap, runs up the middle, breaks through the defensive line, but is met by the linebackers of the hematites and gonna gain about six yards.

Ben Meyer on the tackle.

And again, just gaining five to eight yards of play over the course of this drive, letting time tick off the clock.

Lakes have no reason to speed this up, take as much time off the clock as they'd like here.

About 8 minutes and 30 seconds to go in this second quarter.

Lakes will also get the ball to start the second half after choosing to defer on kickoff.

Davatella again lined up behind Blake Lebo.

Axford further back.

Lebo.

Oh, Philly's special called!

And look at that play!

Lebo takes the snap, pitches it over to Brady, Axford, and Axford finds his brother Lucas wide open in the end zone for the touchdown.

What a play there!

Not quite a Philly special based on the formation, but Brady spent enough time taking snaps at quarterback that I think I'm allowed to be reminded of Nick Foles.

And that'll make it 20-6.

in favor of the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes as they head out for a two-point conversion trying to make it 22.

Lucas Axford lined up on the short side now.

Lebo under center.

Hands it right off to Josh Davatella.

He runs through the entire...

hematite line and picks up a two-point conversion, that'll make it 22-0 in favor of Lake Linden over the ischemic hematites.

We'll be right back to see how the hematites respond in just a moment.

From Tires the Breaks, a limit in any work your vehicle needs, trust Fine Line Tire for tough quality service and care.

Fizzy deliciousness.

Listen to that cascading liquid.

A mouth-watering waterfall.

Irresistibly tasty.

Zero sugar.

Crisp, refreshing, and ice cold.

Is Coke Zero Sugar the best Coke ever?

Try and decide.

So far the Lake Lindenhubble lakes putting on a clinic on both sides of the ball Leading the ishraming hematites 22 to 6 about to send the ball back to ishraming to see how they can respond Lakes wearing blue and gold today hematites in white and blue

820 to go in this second quarter as the lakes get ready to kick it back off.

Hematite's also used a timeout so far, so three timeouts remaining for the lakes, two for Ishpeming.

As Brady Axford sends the ball down field, it's going to be a little squib kick once again, caught by a Hematite player.

That's going to be Key and Gouthier, who shakes the tackle and gets out to about midfield before being pushed out of bounds by Tyler Axford, the kicker himself.

Hematite's going to start.

Essentially, in Lake Territory here, need to take advantage of this field position.

They are going to start at the 49 yard line.

Eight minutes, 10 seconds to go.

Time not a big factor here for the hematites.

Just need to find some kind of rhythm on offense against the defense that's been shutting them down ever since their first quick touchdown drive to start this game.

Gout the air and Derek Meyer splitting the backfield now Gout the air takes the snap gonna run himself going to left side plenty of room to work with but caught and Tackled down by Lucas expert using that speed to meet the quarterback at the line of scrimmage Might have gained half a yard on that play at best and it's gonna be second down in a long nine

as the Hematites try anything to get the ball moving in the right direction down the field.

Again, this Hematites team, a storied history of success, but last season had a bit of a rough patch, went 2-7, lost quite a few close games.

Trying to find a way to rebound in a new conference, they've just recently moved to the new Great Lakes West Conference, so they will likely be an annual opponent of the lakes.

in the near future.

Tight formation here, everybody except Adam and Snyder lined up behind the line of scrimmage and got the error again in trouble.

Players coming in from all over and not going to find anybody downfield.

Went for the deep ball to Snyder on a crossing route down the field, but covered well by Lucas Axford, who's been making his presence felt so far on this drive.

And there the offensive line for the hematites just not able to keep up.

with the pressure coming from the lakes.

We're seeing a lot of very aggressive defensive lineups from the lakes.

Whether they're actually going to blitz the line or not, it's a different story.

We've seen a good variety of both so far.

A couple of those linebackers dropping back into coverage instead, or choosing to go man to man.

But there, believe the lakes did choose to rush four players, and three of them won their battle at the line.

Third down and nine now.

Gauthier lined up under center once again going to take the snap.

Pressure coming from his left, but not going to get there in time.

Number one, David Steiner breaks past the coverage and able to take that one all the way to the house.

Ishpeming needed that touchdown and that's going to make it 22 to 12, pending points after.

Blake Lebo and I believe Brady Axford back there in coverage, but

Neither of them close enough to stop that pass considering the pressure coming from behind.

A fantastic pass from Kian Gauthier to keep the play moving for the hematites and that is exactly what their offense needed.

Now a two-point conversion.

Gauthier lined up Derek Meyer to his left and Donovan Snyder lined up wide.

Gouthier keeps it himself once again the offensive line not able to hold back the pressure from Lake Lindenhubble and That is gonna be I believe that was Blake Lebo getting past the line and getting the tackle on Gouthier So that will keep the score at 22 to 12 in favor of the Lake Lindenhubble lakes and they're about to get the ball back in just a moment We'll be here to check that out after these messages

Lakes recovered it without issue and they will start this drive directly at the 50 yard line Trying to get another touchdown on board so far three for three drives resulting in touchdowns for the Lakes Brady Axford lined up as the quarterback in shotgun three players out wide Axford takes the snap and runs directly up the middle Able to get through two tacklers and keeps pushing his way through the big defensive linemen

but not able to get much further than a couple of yards.

It'll be second down and about seven to go.

Six minutes fifty remaining on the clock now.

Lakes leading the ishpaming hematites twenty-two to twelve and have possession of the ball.

Brady Axford and Blake Lebo have been splitting snaps.

Axford has had some success in the passing game despite being listed as mainly a running back.

Found his brother Lucas over the top for a touchdown on the last drive from about 30 yards out.

And it will be Axford once again lined up as the quarterback with three players wide at once again.

Exact same formation.

Let's see what they do this time.

Axford takes the snap.

Looking over the top.

Josh Dantel wide open in the middle of the field.

Nobody left to beat in front of him.

Touchdown lakes.

4 for 4, so far on offense, and that'll make it a 28-12 game before a two-point conversion.

Exact same formation as the previous play, and the hematites over the middle of the field got caught lacking in coverage.

Josh Davatello lined up, I believe, as a tight end on that play, just ran right up the middle, had the seam wide open, and Axford seeing the opportunity just dropped it right in.

for a house call.

Lebo lined up under center for the two point conversion.

Hands it off to Axford.

Axford tries to run through and he does.

Despite being met in the backfield by a defender able to push through, stay on his feet and that will make it 30 points to 12 in favor of Lake Lindenhubble quickly getting themselves back on the scoreboard after the break.

Wow.

A really nice start to this game for Lake Lindenhubble.

Touchdowns on all four drives to start the game Three of four on two-point conversions and the offense seems to only be getting hotter Hematites have a big hill decline currently down 18 points So need at least three scores on the lakes over the course the rest of this game Could not have dreamed up a better start to this one if you're rooting for Lake Lindenhubble

Again, this team 7-2 last season, won a playoff game, but lost their district championship, or regional championship as it's called in 8-8, to Felch North Dickinson, looking to push even further this year.

And so far, a very good start to their season.

6-0-6 on the clock in the second quarter, still plenty of football to play.

Ishpeming has time to make a comeback in this game, but it's going to be a tall order based on how both sides of the ball are playing for the lake so far.

Tyler Axford going to be out there ready to kick the ball back to the hematites for what will be their fifth drive of the game.

So far 50-50 on touchdowns.

had to punt once and had to turn over on downs after a holding call, turned a fourth and short into a fourth and very long.

Axford sends the kick, it's a dribble right up the middle, gonna be recovered by Key and Gout the air and he's just gonna take the knee seeing the two defenders running towards him.

The smart play there, don't want to risk a fumble.

Hematites will start this drive at the 42 yard line.

Hematite's head back out.

Again with their dual-back formation.

Gouthier and Derek Meyer lined up behind center.

Everybody else on the line.

Both players down as if they're going to take the snap.

The snap goes to Gouthier.

He's going to go to the outside.

Get a few yards to the outside, but again the block's just not quite developing in time.

Only going to be able to gain about three yards and there'll be second down and seven.

The design quarterback runs they've had some success early in this game, but since then just have not had much daylight on either side of the field The lake's doing a fantastic job of defending the line across the entirety of the field so far Corners quickly coming in and stifling runs to the outside Fantastic situational awareness Same formation as last time now lined up on the far right hash

Kakari takes the snap this time lined up next to Gout the air gotta break a tackle and run into one of the defenders out there I believe that was Brady Axford that he nearly trucked but got his shoes tied up and winds up tripping out of bounds after gaining about eight yards and that will be a fresh set of downs for the hematites Nice work there having two players lined up both looking like they're ready to take the snap

It's a formation I haven't seen much of personally, but the trickiness of it trying to confuse the lake's defense, not letting them know what's coming next.

It's shown some fruits here.

Same formation again now on the far left hatch.

Kakari takes it once again going to the outside, uses his speed and his size trying to force a run to the inside, gains about four yards, and it'll be second down and six to go.

Kakari finally a little bit more success than gout the air so far on the designed quarterback runs Haven't seen a pass playing a little while now from the hematites And it will be Meyer and gout the air in the backfield once again Now again on the far right hash they just keep running to the open side of the field Trying to use the space in front of them to generate some holes in the defense

Meyer takes the snap runs at the middle gets around one of the linebackers, but it's brought down By Brady Axford the captain for the lakes After a gain of about four more yards gonna be third down and about two to go here For those of you just joining us Lake Lindenhubble lakes leading the ish farming hematites by a score of 30 to 12 just under four minutes to play here in the second quarter Hematites now at the 38 yard line third down in a long one

Gouthier and Kakari lined up in the backfield.

Gouthier takes the snap, Kakari good block, stops Josh Davitella and that will give Gouthier the room to gain about 10 yards and a fresh set of downs for the Hematites.

Tackled with a 27 yard line of the Lake Linden Lakes, approaching the red zone quickly with three and a half minutes to go.

and play will continue.

Now Meyer and Kakari lined up in the backfield.

Gauthier not on the field.

Everybody else a lineman or a tight end.

Both players set as if they're going to take the snap once again.

Which one we'll get at this time?

It'll be Meyer.

Kakari lays another block and able to get some space in the outside.

Donovan Meyer!

Excuse me Derek Meyer able to beat the defense get around to the outside corner faster than any of the lakes defenders and that will be a touchdown for the ishpaming hematite making the score 30 to 18 a 2-point conversion likely coming to make it a 10-point game A nice response there by ishpaming

Again, that dual back formation, both players lined up right next to each other, both down and set as if they're going to receive the snap.

It goes to one of them, the other late a block.

That is the only play they ran on that entire drive, rotating Kakari, Mayer, and Gauthier.

Exact same play on the two-point conversion.

Kakari goes in and he is just barely going to convert, tripping over the line to pick up the two-point conversion.

That will make it a 30 to 20 ball game with 3-0-3 to go.

Lake's about to receive the ball up 10.

We'll be back to see how the final drive likely of the first half progresses after these messages.

to get the ball off and recovered on the swim kick by the lakes, first down with three minutes to go, starting at their own 35-yard line, 65 yards to the end zone with three minutes on the clock and a full set of timeouts.

Hematite still have two of theirs as well, depending on how this next drive develops, they may start burning theirs at attempt to get one last drive before halftime.

Davatela lined up as the quarterback this time tight formation around him takes a snap and that's gonna be a false start on the offense believe it was number 81 Charlie Heynalt who jumped But somebody on that lakes line a little bit too excited to get the play going and that's gonna back them up five yards now first and 15 from the 30 And interesting formation there though

Five players on the line two lined up as Blockers behind the line and Josh Davatella alone They're gonna run the exact same play looking for a Davatella run up the middle Most likely it's gonna be exactly that runs out to the right side and quickly tripped up number 51 or 57 That's Colin gabbery the 10th grade defensive lineman Just shedding his blocker immediately and stopping Davatella before that play could develop

and what started out as a 65 yard three minute drill has now turned into second and 15 with the clock running.

Big play there from the hematite defensive lineman needed exactly that to slow down this lake's offense.

Brady Axford now lined up his quarterback with two blockers to his right takes the snap gonna run to the left instead nice fake out Gonna have some room to run to gets around one defender has one man to beat and just barely brought down Almost breaking off a touchdown run, but Derek Meyer saves the score Hematites keep the ball in play for a little while longer But the lakes gonna start with a fresh set of downs now on the opposite side of the field at the 36 yard line of the Hematites

First down, two tend to play.

Play will continue.

Lake's trying to get one last play off before the two-minute warning.

They get set, may just be looking for a player to jump here.

Clock keeps running.

Davital takes the direct snap, goes down, and is brought down after a game of about six yards.

Apologies, I forgot we're running a different format here.

There is no two-minute warning.

Play will continue a minute 42 and counting now three timeouts still for the lakes, but Given their field position time not much of a concern Second down and four sitting at the 29 yard line of Ishpeming.

I Don't believe Blake Lebo has seen a play this entire drive yet Brady Axford lined up once again at the quarterback same formation as the previous play

Axford takes the snap now runs right using those blockers to his side Gains about five yards.

It'll be enough for a first down the clock continues to run a minute 11 now on the clock and that will be a first down for the lakes Clock is stopped now Waiting for the ball to get reset

And now the clock will continue ticking.

We're likely going to go under a minute before this play.

First in 10 from the 24, lakes up 30 to 20, a minute to go until halftime.

Quick wide receipt for screen.

Lebo out there throws the ball over to Lucas Axford, who's quickly met by number 14.

That's Dax Cackery, one of the players who's been taking shifts at quarterback slash halfback for the hematites over the course of this game so far.

A timeout called.

I believe by the lakes.

As both teams discuss what we're going to do next, we'll take a quick break.

We'll see you back here for a second down in just 30 seconds.

Gino's family-owned restaurant in Hancock invites everyone in to see what's new and exciting, including walleye bites and new pesto bread dippers.

Gino's has a great selection of winter drinks from the cocktail menu, including the new Green Grinch and Rudy's Red Nose Fizz that's loaded with exciting flavors, plus, of course, all of Gino's traditional drinks, including Tom & Jerry's Hot Butter Drum and Mocktails.

Hours at Gino's is 11-9 Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Monday.

with possession of the ball, 49 seconds on the clock.

They're sitting at the Ishweming Hematite, 21-yard line just outside of the red zone on this second down and seven.

Clock stopped after the timeout, called by Lake Linden head coach Brett Gervais.

Lebo lined up under center, Davatella the full back, Brady acts for the half back, Lucas acts for lined up wide.

Lebo takes the snap, hands it off to...

Brady Axford who will gain about six yards on the run inside and get caught for what will be a third down and short.

Now officially in the red zone, haven't spent much time here, but the red zone is brought to you by Gino's restaurant in Hancock.

Lebo takes a quick snap, running no huddle, goes to Josh Donatella who rolls out of one tackle but is met by the rest of the hematite defensive line before he can shake it and break off for one last run at the end zone.

And I believe that's going to be fourth down and very short.

22 seconds on the clock.

They're not going to have to worry about it running immediately.

The clock running with one timeout left in your pocket.

You've probably got time for maybe a third play.

You'll definitely be able to get off two, but a third is a bit tricky.

Have to go no huddle, make sure you get to the line quick and you're ready to go.

Don't want to be in that situation.

You've got to think that the Lakes coaching staff is thinking Ed's zone on any of these plays.

Need to make sure you walk away with points here.

A touchdown here and receiving the ball at the start of the second half would give you the chance to pretty much put this game on ice as the lakes get ready.

Hematite defense ready to go, getting out on the field and getting set in formation.

It's time out brought to you by Harder's Party Store.

Lebo lined up under center, Davatella the fullback.

The Axfords lined up in their usual positions, toss out to Brady Axford who snakes back inside, breaks through, there's a flag on the play.

Axford gets tackled at the one yard line.

We'll have to wait to see what this penalty called is.

If it's a hole, bad news coming for Lake Linden.

And it is a hold on Lake Linden.

One of the players on the offensive line.

I'm not entirely sure which of them it was.

But that is going to back up a very promising drive 10 yards.

And it is going to be first down in 20 from the 23 yard line.

16 seconds on the clock.

Lakes up 10, 30 to 20 on the hematites.

Lakes head to the line.

Get ready.

Clock not running after the penalty.

Usual formation.

Lebo lined up under center.

Now Axford closer than Davitella, at least for the moment.

Lucas Axford still lined up wide.

Lebo takes the snap, fakes both handoffs, looking for number eight.

That's going to be Tyler Axford who makes the catch but is tackled in bounds and a quick timeout called by the lakes with five seconds left for what will likely be the last play of the first half by either team.

Lakes head coach Brett Gervais being tested here.

It's gonna be second down and 13.

They're sitting at the 18 yard line.

Five seconds on a clock though.

I don't think down in distance matters much to him at this point.

You got to be thinking house call in this situation.

Just five seconds to go.

Hematite's a defensive stand here would be big for their momentum.

likely going to need to stop on the first drive of the second half as well as the lakes will receive to start the third quarter.

Crunch time here for both teams.

Axford lined up at the quarterback.

Libo, Brayden Baudette, and Lucas Axford lined up as receivers.

The third triplet, Tyler lined up at tight end.

Brady takes the ball looking deep finds Lucas caught touchdown Sorry Tyler Axford able to make the play the tight end corner route over the middle of the field Finds pay dirt and just like that the lakes tack on six more 36 to 20 in favor of Lake Linden Hubble And now a two-point conversion attempt to end the half Lakes wanted a dominant start to this season.

They wanted to be known as fighters

Putting up a whole lot of fight right now looking to go up 18 points going into halftime.

Lebo lined up under center, fakes the hand off the Navitella, looking caught once again by Tyler Axford.

Eight points in the last few seconds, what had otherwise been a fairly quiet day for Tyler Axford turns into a big touchdown to end the first half.

After two quarters, Lake Lindenhubble, Lake's 38, Ishpeming Hematite's 20 will be back for the halftime show after these messages.

Welcome back everybody, halftime show brought to you today by A1 Toilets, starting off with this week in high school football brought to you by Chop-Kelio.

So this is the earliest game on the schedule for UP football as far as I'm aware, but taking a look at the schedule of the games that are meant to be played today, we have Escanalba taking on Kingsford, Gladstone at Gwynne, Hancock will be playing Iron Mountain today, Houghton's facing off against Calumet, Negani is playing Marquette, and West Iron County will be taking on Lontz.

Taking a look at the eight-player matchups for today.

We have Cedarville the Tour taking on St.

Ignis, Copper Island against Brimley, Florence at Ironwood, Ishpeming at Lake Lindenhubble, which we're watching right now.

The current score of this one, 38-20 in favor of the lakes.

Norway and Munising will be playing each other, and Okanama and Rudyard will also be taking their first matchup tonight at some point as well.

Unfortunately, scores for those not available yet,

But those are the games on the slate for tonight.

Again, the lakes and the hematites have been going at it so far today.

Lakes in the driver's seat at the moment, leading 38 to 20, and they will receive the kickoff to start the second half.

So a very good start to the season and this game for Lake Lindenhubble.

Another thing to mention as we sit here and talk about

games in the area.

The Michigan Tech Huskies have their season opener tonight.

They'll be taking on Bemidji State in Minnesota.

Kickoff for that game at seven o'clock Eastern time.

That'll be on mix 93.

So once we're done here, if you want more football action, that'll be a good place to check out.

We're going to take a quick break and then we're going to come back for Pepsi Trivia brought to you by Pepsi of Houghton and we'll be back for you there in just 30 seconds.

Thank you.

And if I may suggest a pairing, this is our finest Pepsi Zero Sugar.

The sweetness of Pepsi perfectly balances the savory notes of your burger, while the citrus and carbonation elevates the taste for a truly stunning flavor profile.

Bon appetit.

Now that is one perfect combination.

If this is how the other half lives, I could get used to this.

Burgers deserve Pepsi.

The trivia brought to you by Pepsi Cola of Houghton.

You go ahead and call into our station at 906-482-1331, with the correct answer to the trivia question I'm about to give.

You can, when it's well, pack a Pepsi.

So let's go ahead and get to the question.

In the 2016 season, Lake Lindenhubble went undefeated in their regular season and won their first round playoff game against Felch North Dickinson, but lost in the district final.

What school beat the lakes in that game ending their perfect season?

So one more time.

In the 2016 season, Lakeland and Hubble went undefeated in their regular season and won their first round playoff game, but lost in the district final.

What school beat the lakes in that game ending the perfect season?

If you know the answer, call in, and you can win a 12 pack of Pepsi.

Taking a look at today's game, though, 10 whole years in the future.

Man, that sounds crazy, doesn't it?

2016 being 10 years ago.

Lakes in the driver's seat like we mentioned earlier Brady Axford having a fantastic game out there a couple touchdowns to his name passing and rushing Blake Livo also made some very nice plays at quarterback and Lucas Axford doing well both on offense and defense and even

The third triplet, Tyler Axford, making a nice play on one of the late drives in the first half there, picking up the touchdown and the two-point conversion as the clock winded down and hit zero to end the half, giving the Lakes a 38-20 lead over the hematites.

Espriming has been solid on offense.

Their first drive, a very quick touchdown, Derek Meyer broke off a huge run.

And we've seen both Key and Gauthier

and Dax Kakari break off some big plays as well.

They've been very heavy on designed quarterback runs so far, running a pretty simple offensive formation just trying to pick up consistent yards of the rushing game, not many passing attempts from the hematite so far.

And that's resulted in 20 points, but a turnover on downs on their second drive being forced to punt on their third has resulted in a bit of trouble here, now down 18 points, so needing at least three scores to bring this game back against Lake Linden, who again will be receiving the second half kickoff in just a few minutes as we get ready for the third quarter.

38 to 20, the score right now between Lake Linden and Eshpeming will be back with more of the halftime show in just a moment.

Configuring the Bluetooth.?

Deciding who controls the music.?

Remembering where you parked.?

Why are simple things sometimes so complicated??

Thankfully, with an auto owner's insurance independent agent, getting the right coverage for your vehicle doesn't have to be one of them.?

So you can get back to more important things.?

Like remembering if you're on the third or fourth level of the parking garage.?

That's simple human sense.?

Do you have questions?

Ask the CHOP Callio Agency in Lake Linden if auto owners make sense for you.

UP.

I did want to follow up on the view from the press box today because as the sun is beginning to set behind the press box here at Sherman Field at Curly Stadium, we're starting to see the trees light up a little bit more and some contrast in the sky.

It's turning into a beautiful scene for some summer high school football as we keep going through this first half in this eight on eight action in week one.

Lake Lindenhubble, Lake's leading 38 to 20 over the Ishpeming hematite in what's been eight.

Offensive slug fest so far really in this game outside of a turnover on downs on a punt every result and every single drive Has resulted in a touchdown about five minutes left in the halftime show here before we get jumping back into the action and a very exciting game across the board looking forward to seeing How this progresses over the course of the remainder of the game lakes again going to receive the kickoff to start the second half so

a very good look so far for the lakes.

The hematites actually not choosing to go back to the locker rooms at all.

They're out on the field or off behind the field having their huddle up just outside of the grounds of the stadium itself.

You can see them out in the tree line surrounding everywhere on the stadium besides the press box itself.

And it's looking like a beautiful August night across the board.

None of that rain so far.

The clouds, despite how dark the clouds have been, we have not had a drop of rain so far on the actual game itself.

So hopefully that weather can hold for the rest of the game and we can have a nice, clean, sunny game here so far.

It's been an absolute blast.

Clock winding down here to signal the start of the second half as the lakes begin taking the field once again.

It's a long walk down to the FDC to get to those locker rooms and the lakes now emerging as the clock winds down, second half getting ready to get going here at Curly Stadium and Sherman Field on the campus of Michigan Technological University.

Like I mentioned during the halftime show, Huskies will be kicking off their season as well tonight, taking on the Bemidji State Beavers in Minnesota.

Leaving the field open for us tonight.

They're home opener next Saturday.

And the Lakes back on the sideline getting ready to head back out on the field.

They will be receiving the kickoff to start this second half.

The score, Lakes 38, Hematite's 20.

So a very good start to the game for the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes.

Timeouts will be reset.

Teams getting ready to get going here.

No answers on our Pepsi trivia questions so far.

I'll read it one last time for you as we get set here.

In the 2016 season, Lake Lindenhubble went undefeated in their regular season and won their first round playoff game against Felch North Dickinson, but lost in the district final.

What school beat the lakes in that game ending their perfect season?

If you know the answer, call into our station at 906-482-1331 and you can win a 12 pack of Pepsi.

So go ahead and make that call in.

We'll announce the winner on air when we have one.

Time ticking down here.

They've added a couple extra minutes to the clock to allow the lakes to get back on the sideline and acclimated here.

15 minutes a little generous when you have to worry about a five minute walk to and from the locker room.

But the lake's ready to play now here.

Players retaking the field, getting ready to get going.

Again, taking a look at the players who have been highlights so far this game.

Blake Leibode on a very solid job at quarterback.

Hasn't had many pass attempts.

He's largely been a facilitator for the running game.

Got involved on defense as well, made a couple of big tackles to slow down the hematite defense.

But so far, Brady Axford and Josh Davatella, big number 40,

The captain has been making the majority of games on the offensive side for the lakes.

Tyler Axe for getting in there as well.

Lucas made a big play, caught a touchdown from his brother Brady in a wildcat.

Really fun, exciting play there, I believe, for the third touchdown of the day for Lake Linden.

And you know, when you score 38 points and a half, it's hard to keep track of who exactly scored which one.

Taking a look at the rest of the rosters here.

if they've been getting ready trying to establish some kind of momentum they need to make a big defensive stop is the gist of it at this point so far the lakes have had five drives all of which have resulted in touchdowns they've converted on four of five two-point conversions it's quickly becoming a hairy situation for the hematites and their offense really needs help from the defensive side now

So can the hematites get the job done?

They need to get a stop in the very near future here Preferably on this drive to see ishman get back into this game So far on offense though Dax Kakri has been impressive The 12th grader making some big plays splitting a position between quarterback and running back I'm not sure exactly what they like to call but they have two players line up next to each other

in most of their offensive formations.

They both duck down as if they're ready to take the snap as the quarterback.

Then one of the two will take the ball and either run it or try to turn it into a pass play.

That's been a formation.

The hematites have really liked so far this game.

We'll see if they stick with it in the second half.

But again, like I mentioned earlier, the big concern at the moment is definitely on defense.

The players have taken the field.

The Axfords Lucas and Tyler back and ready to receive the kick for the lakes and it is Key and gout the air ready to kick the ball off for the hematites Raises his hand in the air whistles blow Double checking that his team is ready and the second half is underway.

It's a squib kick right directly towards Alfred milky number 10 For the lakes and he will just pounce on the ball and make sure that doesn't go anywhere

And the Lakes will begin this drive at their 45 yard line.

A little bit closer than that even at the 48.

Neither team wanting to be too aggressive on the kickoff don't want to give those speedy returners in the backfield a real chance to do something big with the ball.

The last thing the hematite sideline wants to see right now is giving up a touchdown on special teams.

Blake Lebo lined up under center, Davatella the full back.

Brady acts for the running back.

Lebo on the keeper, goes right, uses his blockers, gains about 10 yards before being brought down.

It'll be Ben Meyer on the tackle there.

Lebo could have gained another 5 or 10 yards off of that play if Meyer had not made the tackle.

Looks like they have some brothers on the hematite roster as well.

Derrick and Ben Meyer, 11th and 9th graders respectively.

It's hard to beat the Axford triplets on the lakes roster though.

Second down one.

Not quite a first down on that first run for Lebo.

Now lined up under center.

Hands the ball off to Axford.

Axford makes a man miss using his blockers to generate some momentum down the field and he'll gain about eight yards on that play.

That'll be a fresh set of downs for the lakes and that will put them at about the 35 yard line.

The clock ticking down, 11 minutes and 12 seconds remaining in this third quarter that's very young.

Third quarter of today's game brought to you by Saiyans Auto Sales and Zebar.

Thanks to them for sponsoring this quarter of play here on WMPL.

No turnovers so far in the game.

I know I'm testing the announcers cursed by saying that but...

So far both offenses have been playing pretty clean football.

Lebo under center.

Fakes the handoff to Davitella and... I'm not entirely sure who wound up with the ball there.

No, Davitella did take the ball.

I thought it was a fake after the rollout, but Josh Davitella, the team captain that quickly at the line of scrimmage, gonna gain about two yards and only second down and seven at the 32-yard line.

Lake's willing to take their time here.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're willing to start chewing clock at this point really.

Whistle blows and the clock will start ticking once again.

Lebo now lining up wide.

It's gonna be Josh Davitella lined up as the quarterback on this play looking to receive the snap.

Four players lined up wide, just a three-man offensive line in front of them.

Davatela takes the snap, runs right at the middle, has some space, gains about six yards, but is not able to get around Brady Axford trying to lay a block for him.

Gains about six, and that will be enough for a first down.

First down and 10 at the 22-yard line.

Lake's offense humming as if no time had passed between their possessions.

Time still ticking off the clock now at 9 minutes 50 and the likes doing a good job of taking time off the clock moving down the field continuing to be an ever-present threat on offense Brady Axford now lined up in the shotgun his quarterback four players wide still Both of his brothers out there on the field

And it looks like a timeout will be called Waiting to see who it's by Called by ishpaming so a quick timeout there head coach of the hematites Mike saying or Mike layman.

Sorry Lyman, excuse me did not Like something going on during that Got the names mixed up with our sponsor for the third for the third quarter apologies about that But during this timeout trying to assess how to shut down

This play by the lakes, first and 10 on the 22 yard line.

Lakes up 18, another touchdown for Lake Lindenhubble would be disastrous for Ishmael.

Need a defensive stand here, preferably without even a chance at a field goal attempt.

And we will see what the hematite defense looks like.

Lakes may use this opportunity to change up formations, try to...

Essentially cancel out any game planning going on during the timeout Blake Lebo in this huddle He was lined up as receiver in the previous formation and that it looks like that's where he's heading once again Brady Axford once again lined up in the shotgun about seven yards back from his offensive line three players lined up on the far left side of the field and Lucas Axford his brother lined up on his right

Brady takes a snap, bobbles it, runs on his own, gets past the defensive line, has room to work, gets around one defender and is brought down finally after picking up the first down, but a pickup of about ten yards, finally being stopped by number three Madden Gouthier, another likely pair of brothers on the hematite defense.

And that will be a first down, it's not quite first in goal, first in ten from the eleven yard line.

This Lake's offense showing so many different looks to Ishpeming.

Difficult to develop any kind of stable defensive strategy when you keep seeing so many different looks.

Davatella now lined up at quarterback and a run right up the middle again and not gonna be able to get any headway through that hematite defensive line.

Davis Hyatt on the tackle also number 40 for the other team.

Davatella credited with a gain of about a yard and a half.

It's gonna be second down and nine Nice crowd has turned out for today's game Few people on the visiting stands as well Made the truck out from Ishpeming about a 90 mile drive to get here Nice to see them supporting their hometown team second down and nine

Lebo lined up under center hands off to Brady Axford right up the middle has room to work and runs right through Madden Gauthier for the touchdown The sixth touchdown on six drives for the lakes and showing no signs of slowing down No nonsense play there Lebo takes the handoff under center

Hands it right off to Brady Axford and Axford just runs right through the defense Not remotely slowed down until he hit the goal line The freshman Madden Gouthier tried to stop him just wasn't able to slow him down all the way and now two-point conversion attempt Brady Axford goes for a receiver screen Which is quickly met and shut down by the hematite defense and that will keep the score at 44 to 20

Lake's leading about to send the ball back to Eshmerming.

They need something big on offense now.

We'll see how they respond after this quick break.

of high school football in this 8-on-8 showdown at Sherman Field, the Curly Stadium, the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes, putting on a show on offense, scoring 44 points, a touchdown on all six of their first drives on offense.

Ishman and Hematite's currently sitting at 20 points about to receive the ball back, and they need to show some fireworks on offense to keep them in this game.

A 24-point gap now.

So three touchdowns with two point conversions currently the difference, but this Lake's offense has been so hot You got to think ishman's gonna need to score quite a bit more than that Tyler Axford number eight hasn't made a ton of noise outside of his touchdown reception Squib kick right up the middle fielded cleanly by key and gaffier once again, and he will make sure

The Hematites get the ball on offense and they will be starting at their own 44 yard line on this drive.

About 8 minutes to go in this third quarter.

So plenty of time left in this game, about 20 minutes in total.

But a tall order ahead for the Hematites.

Let's see how they can get going here on offense.

Gauthier lined up in the backfield that same split back formation with Derek Mayer.

Takes the snap, it's Mayer, who will be tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of about two yards.

And that was Josh Davatella on the tackle for loss.

He's made a couple of disruptive plays in the backfield.

Out there built like a middle linebacker.

Out there just making big plays, laying big hits in the backfield, making his presence felt routinely on both sides of the ball so far in this game.

Gouthier lined up in shotgun two receivers out to his right Derek Meyer lined up as a blocker Gouthier evades a tackler two more coming behind him.

He needs to find a way out of bounds.

He will get out of bounds May be gained a yard on that force quarterback scramble Again, the blitz coming in from the lakes has just been too much for this offensive line

Gauthier whenever he attempts to pass is always under pressure a couple of times He's found a fantastic pass down the field that's resulted in touchdowns But on these plays when you're seeing this much pressure Every time you try to pass the ball.

It's difficult to find any kind of momentum in your passing game And there just forced out of bounds had to pick up something it's gonna be third down and ten ball back at the 44 yard line 715 left in this third quarter

Lakes up 24.

Hematites need something on offense on this 3rd and 10.

You have the air lined up in shotgun once again.

And that is going to be a flag.

And that is a delay of game on the Hematites.

Wow.

That is a rough call.

There's no operating play clock here.

At Curly Stadium, the referees are in charge of managing the clock.

And there just took too long to get the play going.

It's now third and 15.

Hematite ball on the 39-yard line.

Need to get to the Linden 46 for a fresh set of downs.

Gouthier still line up in shotgun.

Same formation.

Takes the snap, and there's another flag on the play.

And it's going to be...

A false start on the offense and quickly this drive has turned into disaster for the Hematites.

Third down and 20 now.

And now whether or not you want to pass, you feel like you have to.

You need to hope that somebody breaks free over the top.

Donovan Snyder did it earlier in the game.

Got around two defenders for a touchdown reception in the second quarter.

You might just need to send a couple players on a deep route and hope one of them can beat their man.

Same formation as the last two times.

Kakari lined up wide right.

Gauthier waiting to take the snap.

He does.

Takes the snap, runs outside, pressured, fumbles the ball!

Recovered by the hematite offensive line.

Who was that?

Number...

86, Ethan there, Moa.

De Moa, excuse me.

Able to avoid disaster, at least allowing the hematites to punt here.

But boy, a difficult situation for Ishpeming.

And they're going to have to punt once again.

Fourth down and 20 yards.

The drive started, I believe, at their 42.

They're now punting from their 32.

Punter gets the ball low snap, block punt!

Not recovered by Brady Axford, recovered by the punter actually.

That was Key and Gauthier once again.

A low snap on the punt, took a second to stand up and by the time he was ready to kick it away, Brady Axford was in his face.

Able to block the punt, almost recovered it, but not able to keep both hands on it.

Gauthier recovers at least, not allowing a return on the punt block.

But that is going to be a turnover on downs.

And the Lakes now in beautiful field position starting this drive at the Hematite 25 yard line.

A fantastic defensive effort from the Lakes there.

Just not giving the Hematite any opportunity to develop an offensive drive.

Lebo under center, Davitello behind.

Play action, looking deep.

And...

A collision but caught!

Wow!

Lucas asks for despite the hands to the face or at least to his chest before the ball got there.

Able to wrestle around the defender and make a beautiful touchdown catch and that will make it 50 points on the board for Lake Lindenhubble.

Seven drives, seven touchdowns.

Four of which have a two-point conversion attached.

Looking to see if a fifth will come up here, making it 52 to 20.

Let's find out.

Eye formation, Lebo lined up under center.

Takes the ball, hands it off to Axford, who pushes through and converts on the two-point conversion.

Oh, that was a different player, actually.

That was number 15, I believe.

Trying to figure out exactly who took that snap.

It was not Brady Axford.

I couldn't quite decipher the jersey number from this far away.

But I know it was not number 5 Axford.

Regardless, it is 52 to 20 in favor of the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes.

As they're about to kick the ball back to the hematites, we'll be back to see how the hematites respond in 30 seconds.

Calling all Huskies.

Offense, offense, offense.

Lake Lindenhubble Lake's now leading 52 to 20.

After another fantastic drive, Luke is Axford with a hero catch there.

And now Tyler Axford with a squib kick, which is recovered by Key and Gauthier.

Hemantites will get another drive.

These little squib kicks and onside kicks trying to get

A return man to bobble the catch and get another free offensive drive essentially out of the kick.

Have been happening quite a bit for both teams recently.

I don't see a reason to stop for either, frankly.

The hematites really need the ball back at this point and the lakes have shown that their defense is holding strong regardless of where they are on the field.

But now at this point for the hematites.

You're down 32 points.

You need four touchdowns and two point conversions.

It's go time.

You need points, you need them now.

Two back formation once again.

Gouthier takes the snap, looking deep.

Has his man caught!

Derek Meyer makes the catch, tackled in bounds.

Brady Axford on the coverage there.

Not quite able to make it back to his man in time.

And Meyer had a clean catch, but quickly brought down by Axford in response, a game of about 20, and that'll move the chains.

Ball now on the 30-yard line of the lakes.

Hematites needed that.

The first time I haven't noticed a defender charging gout the air as he tries to make a pass.

The first time he had any kind of time in the pocket.

Gouthier lined up next to Kakari.

Gouthier takes the snap.

Bubble screen, not gonna find his man.

Tried to find Derek Meyer on the quick screen pass.

Passed a little too low.

Wasn't much daylight in front of Meyer anyway on that pass and it'll be second down and ten.

When the hematites have chosen to pass They've had some headway.

They've been able to find some pretty big games down the field It's just they're either finding a pass for 20 30 yards or Gauthier is getting laid out in the backfield or has to scramble away and settle for a two-yard quarterback run The front the front Line and linebackers for the lakes have dictated this game so far when the hematites had the ball Gauthier takes the snap looking deep once again

Finds Meyer.

Oh, bobbles the catch.

Not able to hold on to it.

Had a little bit of space, but could feel the defender.

I believe that was Lebo right behind him.

And with the pressure, just couldn't hold on to the ball.

It's going to be third down in 10.

Again, Hematite's at the 30-yard line down 32 points with 5 and 1 half minutes to go in the third quarter.

Lakes lucky with two Passes that have been a little bit off target a bobble catch by Derek Meyer Did get burned already on this drive though about a 20-yard reception by Meyer once again gout the air and cackery once again splitting the backfield

Gouthier takes the snap, looking for Meyer.

Meyer makes the catch.

Gains about five yards, running to the outside sideline, but not able to make it to the outside and start heading up field.

Brought down by Lucas Axford, who makes the tackle.

It's going to be fourth down, about four yards to go.

No question here, hematites have to go for it.

It's a four touchdown game.

You've got about 18 minutes of play to go.

And a huge play here for Ishmael.

Fourth and five.

Once again, two players lined up in the backfield, nobody out wide.

Gauthier and Khakri lined up next to each other, both leaning for the snap.

Eshpeming is going to call a timeout.

Coach Mike Lyman saw something he didn't like there in that formation.

As they assess what to do, we're going to take a brief 30 second pause.

We'll be right back after these messages.

so far in this game, and the offense has been insane, frankly.

Hematite's quarterback.

Key and Gauthier lined up in the shotgun.

It's gonna be a fake, actually.

Direct snap over to Dax Cackery, who will run right up the middle, and it looks like he does gain enough yards to pick up the first down, so Hematite's moved the chains, but precious time ticking away.

Ishpeming needs a touchdown on this drive, preferably quickly.

Need an onside kick or two to go their way.

They've been running little squib kicks and onside kick attempts, hoping that a player on the lakes will bobble the ball.

So far, neither team has gotten a turnover or an onside kick recovery.

Gauthier in shotgun next to Kakari.

Kakari takes the ball again, runs up the middle.

Gains a few yards brought down by Josh Davatella the leg tackle there gonna gain about four yards And it'll be second down and six now at the 15-yard line Again 52 to 20 the score Lake Lindenhubble up 32 points Playing defense in their red zone right now Hematites need this touchdown Same formation

Kakari and Gauthier lined up in shotgun about five yards back from their line Yards can be third down and about five and a half Yards to go This two back formation where both players are threatening to take a direct snap It's an interesting game plan.

It's meant to confuse the defense.

I'm sure

But so far, the Lakes defense has been firm enough on the rushing attack that it really just hasn't been a big issue for them.

They haven't allowed a run play over 10 yards that I can recall.

They've been burnt deep a couple of times.

But, hematites need to find something they haven't found on offense yet.

Gauthier takes the snap, quarterback designed run, goes up the middle, and met and tackled, brought down by half of the Lakes defense.

Gains about three yards, but it's going to be another fourth down.

And time continues to take away.

About two and a half minutes on the clock now.

Hematites quickly burning their chances to get back into this game.

It's going to be galthy air and cackery once again.

The other six players on the field lined up on the line.

Fourth down and three at the 12 yard line.

Kakari direct snap, takes the ball, runs forward.

It's going to be close, folks.

He got tackled right near that first down marker, sitting at the nine yard line, waiting to see what the chain gang does here, what the referees call, and they are going to call Lake's ball.

Kakari tried to reach through the defense.

Push the ball through the line, and wasn't quite able to make up the distance for it, and the Lakes will resume on offense.

The worst starting field position of the day for the Lakes offense by a long shot, they're starting at their own 10-yard line.

But the way the Lakes offense has been carving up the field so far, it's hard to think that will be any kind of problem for them.

Their usual formation, Lucas Axford lined up wide, Lebo under center.

Gonna hand the ball off to Brady Axford who breaks through the line, has one man to beat and just barely gets brought down.

A game of about 20 yards on a run right up the middle, saved by number 14, Dax Cackery.

He's been having a very solid game for Ishpeming.

He's made some crucial tackles on defense.

He's always involved in the play.

But so far, it just has not been enough.

Another big play on offense for the likes, alleviating any concerns of field position.

First and 10 at their own 33 yard line now, a minute 40 left in the third quarter.

Brady Axford lined up in shotgun, looking to take the snap here.

Oh, limo!

Leba was under center.

I didn't I didn't see him and he fumbled the ball.

That's gonna be recovered by the hematites And that's number 40 Davis Hyatt Who gets in there and makes a big play the fans know it too a massive recovery on the fumble on just a botched snap for a quarterback under center And that's really the only mistake we've seen the lakes make on offense all game long

And all of a sudden, Hematites are back in great field position.

First at 10 on the 21 yard line of Lake Lindenhubble.

Running their split back formation.

Meyer takes the snap runs to the middle.

He's going to gain about three yards and be tackled down.

Tyler Axford on the tackle there.

I didn't even see Lebo under center.

I thought Brady Axford was taking the snap and shotgun.

It's going to be second down and seven yards to go.

Ball placed the 17-yard line.

Under a minute to play, now in the third.

Gauthier and Meyer lined up in that split-back formation.

Everybody else on the offensive line.

Gauthier takes the snap.

Meyer blocks and just no daylight.

It's been a direct snap and run up the middle, I believe, on the last six consecutive offensive plays for the Hematites.

And they're gaining some yardage, but it's not enough to move the chains so far, and it's nowhere near fast enough to get them back in this game.

Still down 32, 15 seconds and ticking on the clock to the end of the third quarter.

It's going to be 3rd down and 5th, and it looks like Isfaming is not going to elect to take a snap before the quarter ends here.

As we tick down, they do not approach the line.

And with that, the 3rd quarter is over.

We'll flip sides of the field.

Isfaming is going to have a 3rd and 5th on the Lake 16-yard line.

Desperation time now.

We'll see how they respond to the situation after these messages.

12 minutes to go in this game.

The Lake Lindenhubble lakes up 52 to 20 on the Ishpeming Hematites, but they have the ball in the lakes red zone.

Third down and five, 16 yards away from the end zone.

And they need to find something on offense that will get them these points quickly.

Hematite still in a huddle on the sideline, now the offense heads towards the field.

The Lake's defense, their defensive line and their linebackers have been an absolute massive problem for the Hematite so far this game.

They've been burnt over the top few times.

The defensive backs have led a couple big plays go.

But really, the name of the game has been Josh Davatella and the defensive line coming in today for Lake Lindenhubble.

Gouthier and Meyer lined up behind their offensive line both ready to take the snap third and five Meyer takes it has room to his right But shedding through the tackle and stopping the play is the freshman Alfred milky The six-foot ninth grader sneaking through the defensive line and making a big tackle.

It's gonna be another fourth down

Fourth and five at the 16 yard line.

The clock running 11 and a half minutes to play in the game.

And we have seen seven plays in a row from the Hematite offense where they have two men in the backfield.

One of them takes the snap and runs up the middle.

Same formation now, replacing Meyer with Cackery number 14, one of the seniors on this Hematite team.

Gouthier lined up to his...

to his left.

Kakari takes the snap, has a blocker, rumbles through the line, but I don't think he has the distance to pick up the first down.

Waiting to see the spot.

No call yet from the official, checking the chains.

And that will be a turnover on Downs.

Lakes once again, forced.

A turnover in their own red zone.

On the last drive, Blake Lebo fumbled while they were trying to move down the field and put the game on ice, gave the hematites the ball back, but otherwise, essentially a flawless game on offense from Lake Lindenhubble.

Lebo out there once again under center.

Brady Axford behind him.

Lebo takes the snap, gives the hand off, and brought down.

That's the fullback.

It's not Davutela on this play.

I'm not sure who that is.

And that is going to be Tobin Bari, a junior, five foot nine.

Hasn't seen much playing time on offense, at least that I've noticed.

Coming in there gains about four yards on first down.

It's going to be second and six.

Lake's now at their own 16 yard line, 10 and a half minutes to play.

At this point, more than happy to just let time take off the clock.

Vibo lined up under center.

Same formation as last play, Tyler Axford out wide.

Berea and Axford in the backfield.

A handoff again.

And I believe that is Tobin Berea once again who...

has the yardage for the first down.

And that will move the chains.

And four more plays for the Lakes on offense.

More precious time ticking off the clock.

52 to 20 Lake Lindenhubble ahead of Ishpeming.

About a 90 mile commute to come here to Houghton.

Playing a game that I believe is classified as a Lake Lindenhubble home game, but they're at Sherman Field at Curley Stadium, the usual home of the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Their game should just be kicking off their home or their season opener against Bemidji State.

They're currently in Minnesota the start of their non-conference schedule First and 10 now Lebo under center Hands off to Marie once again.

Oh, no pull the back for the keeper gets outside but is met By gout the air and that'll be a gain of about three yards and that will be second down They're gonna call it a gain of five yards actually

Second down into five.

Just more than nine minutes left on the clock and it's still going down.

Lake's doing a fantastic job of chewing clock.

No need to test the passing game right now.

Just keep it on the ground, keep it simple.

Keep picking up first downs and there's no reason to stop.

Lebo once again under center.

Davatella now in it full back.

Takes the hand off, tries to run through and will be met at the line and stopped.

Apologies, that was number 10.

Alfred Milky coming in.

The ninth grade freshman standing at six foot.

About the same height as Davatella.

Coach Brett Gervais trying to get some of the less experienced players some time in this game.

Tobin Bari, Alfred Miki, or Milky.

And they have a new quarterback in as well.

I believe that's Brody Fortan, or Bodie Fortan, who fakes the handoff.

Oh no, does wind up handing the ball off.

Tough read there.

And Bari will be met behind the line of scrimmage.

That'll be a loss of about one yard.

It's now fourth down and two.

Ball sitting at the 31 yard line of the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes.

Seven and a half minutes to go in this game.

No reason not to go for it here.

If you get the fresh set of downs, more time choose off the clock.

And if you do wind up taking a turnover on downs, then the hematites need to find some action on offense and they need a lot of it quick.

Fourth down now.

Fortan takes the snap.

And a run outside by Berea I think is not going to wind up getting back to the first down marker.

That is going to be yet another turnover on downs.

And the hematites will have the ball back in Lake's territory.

Going to start this drive at their 31 yard line.

7-11 on the clock.

A 32-point game.

Hematites, if they want any shot at bringing this back into a competitive game, they need to turn the Jets on right now.

Now that we have had a turnover in this game, I forgot to mention this, with the fumble on the previous Lakes Offensive Drive, I can mention that our sponsor for turnovers of the game is Portage Tire and Auto Repair.

So thank you to them for sponsoring tonight's broadcast here on WMPL.

Next week on the broadcast we're gonna be seeing West Iron County go off against Hancock I'll be an interesting game to see All right first down now for the hematites 7-eleven to play in the game sitting at the lakes 31 yard line Kakri and gout the air Kakri takes the snap running to the outside to the right has room to work gets up the field

Juke's back inside, down to the five-yard line, finally tackled at the two-yard line.

Bodi for Tan, the last person left in the field with any chance to catch Kakari on the outside there.

And finally, the Hematite's able to break off one of these split-back, quarterback run plays for a big game.

A game of 29 on that play.

And now it's first and goal for Ishpemang.

Substitution, Xavion Le Prat comes off the field for the lakes.

Subbing in a defensive line.

He's been fantastic on both sides of the ball today.

Mayer and Khakri.

Khakri takes the snap run, so the middle has his gap and has a touchdown for Eshpeming.

That'll make it 26 to 52.

And make a two-point conversion to make it 28.

They'll absolutely go for two here.

And that is the touchdown that Ishpeming has needed for a while now.

They scored in the third quarter, getting up to 26 points, but the lakes have been in control for most of this second half.

Same position.

Kakari and Mayer in the backfield.

Mayer takes the snap this time, runs up the middle, has some space, and he will pick up the two-point conversion.

So that makes it 28 to 52.

And now Isfaming about to kick the ball back off to the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes, almost certainly going for an onside kick.

We'll see how it goes after these messages.

kick coming here most likely from Ishpeming still down 24 points in this game.

Here it comes dribbles towards the lakeside and laid down and recovered.

Smart play there by Lucas Axford no need to risk a return just lay on that ball cover it make sure you don't fumble.

639 to go in the game.

Lakes with possession up by 24 points the score 52 to 28.

They should be having scored a touchdown for the first time in a little while on this game on their last drive.

A big run by Dax Cackery, a game of 29 yards on his run, put them on the two yard line, punched it in.

Derek Meyer picked up the two point conversion for them.

It's made it a three score game at least for the Hematites, but a long way to climb here and it will be a necessity to find some turnovers or at least a four and out here.

on this drive.

First and 10.

Bodie 4-10 takes the snap again, hands it off.

The Tobin Buri, they'll gain about two yards, it'll be second down and eight.

Now at the Lakes 40 yard line.

6-20 left in this game.

Clock still running, the Lakes more than happy to let it tick away.

You can hear the cheer squad for Lake Lindenhubble down there.

Second down and eight.

Fortan under center.

Takes the snap, hands it off to Milky who's gonna get about five yards then be met and stifled by Madden Gauthier, the true freshman.

Two freshmen out there.

Getting some good reps in in this game as time ticks away.

It'll be third down about one and a half

Fortan under center Takes the snap hands it off and room to work on the outside for Tobin Buri As he keeps going and he will be tackled out of bounds.

That'll be a fresh set of downs for the lakes Nice works there for Lake Linden Hubble And they needed exactly that Oh There's a flag down on the play and it's going against the lake so that will actually back them up.

I think there was a hold on offense there

I missed the flag in its entirety.

He was in the mess of players near the line.

And that will make it.

Oh, it's a five yard penalty, so maybe a false start.

And the play wasn't whistled dead quite in time.

It's going to be third down at six.

Ball at the 41 yard line of Lake Lindenhubble.

451 on the clock and ticking.

Again, it's a 24-point game.

Hematite's need a stop.

Fortan lines up under center, Berri behind him.

Nokia in it, full back.

Fortan takes the snap, pitch over to Berri, who gets tackled in the backfield.

That's going to be a loss of yardage, and it'll be about fourth down and eight.

Fans here liking the effort.

Quick injury update brought to you by Sarah's and dental.

I see a player on the ishpaming sidelines.

I'm not entirely sure who it is Getting their ankle checked out at the moment So maybe we'll figure out which player that is I'll make sure to let you all know immediately likely a player who was on offense for them on the previous drive Hopefully he's all right Fourth down an eight ball at the lakes 40 yard line For tan under center

Milky and Bari behind.

Fortan takes the handoff, gives it to Bari.

He'll gain about seven yards, but not enough for the first down.

That will be yet another turnover on downs.

And the Lakes will give the ball back to the Hematites.

But three and a half minutes on the clock, they successfully shoot about half of the remaining time in the game.

And the Hematites have a tall order in front of them to get back into this

game.

The injured player for Ishpeming appears to be number 35 Brayden Longstaff.

So maybe he got hurt as a linebacker during that last offensive drive.

Maybe he just rolled his ankle.

He's up and about on it now.

He seems to be okay.

Though I would doubt he gets further reps in this game.

Gens 331 to go in this game.

Lakes leading 52 to 28.

Hematites will get the ball first in 10 on the Lake's 38 yard line.

As the timeout continues here called by the Hematites, we're going to take a brief 30 second break.

We'll be right back to see how they drive on offense.

High school football here on WMPL.

Lake Lindenhubble lakes and ishpimming hematites So far the lakes have been dominant leading by 24 points with just three and a half minutes to go in the game Hematites lined up an eye formation gout the air the quarterback Assessing the defense Takes the snap and there's gonna be a flag.

I believe a false start on the offense

And

it is exactly that

And before the drive can even get going, Hematites are backed up five yards, first in 15, now on the

Phil Nee

43.?

Hematites.

The offense wasn't disastrous in this game by any means, but the defense just gave up drive after drive early.

And now the offense being asked to put in a whole lot of work in these final few minutes.

Same formation as they tried to run on their first try.

Gouthier takes the snap, hands it off to Donovan Snyder.

Who breaks free?

Has one man to beat, and he will get brought down with a ten yard line, but another big gain on a run here for the Hematites.

Tackle thereby Alfred Milke making his presence felt in these final few minutes of the game.

Good work to catch by the freshman.

And now with three minutes 20 on the clock it's gonna be another first and goal for ishpaming If they score on the first couple of plays here all of a sudden this is a two-score game folks Let's see how the hematites do in this situation Gouthier under center Hands off to Meyer

Where Snyder, excuse me, who breaks the tackle but is met at the two-yard line to be second down and goal

Clock continues

to tick Looking for a clutch situation here clock continues to tick down two minutes 30 left

Looks like it's gonna be the exact same formation Kemper Gerhardt lined up at fullback Snyder the running back behind gout the air Five offensive linemen looking to punch this one into the end zone real quick Handoff Snyder has space and that's another touchdown for ishpaming 52 to 34 With a two-point conversion this becomes a 16-point game All of a sudden

Hematites are back in this Two-point conversion try coming exact same formation might even be the exact same play gout the air Gerhardt Snyder in the backfield with five offensive linemen in front of them Gout the air takes the snap goes to Snyder a flag on the play Another false start you got to be kidding Wow

And it's going to be a two-point conversion try from the seven yard line now.

Those penalties have come back to bite Ishmeng in a big way.

A holding call on their second drive-on offense turned a fourth and one into a fourth and 11.

They couldn't convert.

They've been penalized left and right in the third and fourth quarter on false starts.

A delay of game even.

It's definitely slowed down their offense.

Two-point conversion attempt pitch out to Snyder who gets to the outside pushes through and picks up the two-point conversion Running through a lakes defender

to

do it.

What a nice play Really big

Truck to get into the end zone for that two-point conversion.

Hematites now have a two-score game on their hands.

2.15 left to go in this one.

We'll see you right back here after these messages.

Phil Nee

At Fineline Tire, you're more than a customer.?

Fineline Tire in Hancock in Houghton, where they serve you the guest.?

We've got a 2-15 to go in this game, 52-36.

Lake's leading due to receive a kickoff, but sure to expect an onside kick coming from the hematites here.

Gauthier lines up for his onside kick attempt.

Only one returner deep, everybody else up front for the lakes.

Here comes the kick.

A dribbler over to Aaron Kinnenin.

Who makes the recovery?

Oh, apologies.

Charlie Hanalt makes the recovery on the onside kick.

Lakes are going to start their drive in midfield.

Did exactly what he had to do.

Ball dribbled up to him.

He just fell on it.

Made sure nobody could poke it out.

And with two minutes, 14 seconds to go, Hematite's out of timeouts.

The first down ends the game.

As the lakes offense heads out and gets set Got to expect just a few more run plays here trying to put this game on ice hematites Strong showing in these last few minutes a couple of breakaway plays taking advantage of good field position given to them by the lakes Bodie for tan still out there hands the ball Off to Marie they'll gain about four yards clock continues to tick second down at six

from Hematite territory coming up.

Fans excited to see this one wrap up.

Hometown fans hoping for a lakes win.

Hematite fans on the sidelines looking for a miracle.

Ticking under a minute 40 now.

Fortan still out there at quarterback under center.

Berea and Milky behind.

Stack it down in five.

Fortan takes the snap, hands it off to Berea.

Berea goes up the middle and is taken down, but rolls forward.

I think it's going to be third down and about half a yard.

Good effort there, real close to the marker.

The official crew will say it is third down.

A minute to go in this game.

Again, hematite's out of timeouts.

So this one is just about over, folks.

Coach Bredgirvay making sure that some of his younger players, some of the less experienced in all offensive skill positions, get some reps.

Bode Fortan under center one last time.

Takes a snap cornerback sneak runs it right the middle easily has the yards for the first down and that should do it Less than 30 seconds left on the clock

a fresh set of downs for the

lakes Might need to run one more play to officially put this game on ice

A brief conversation with the Chief Referee.

And the Lakes offense.

Clock continues to tick.

They'll just spend the last few seconds in the huddle.

And it looks like the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes will open their season with a 52 to 36 victory over the Ishping hematites.

A convincing win to open the season.

And a great way to get your season going.

Oh, one last play, they're running through the line.

Fortan, bobbles the ball, recovers it.

Some last second action there.

Wasn't expecting anything quite like that.

The

Lakes let one

last play try

to go through.

But for them, it won't go anywhere.

Final score in today's week one matchup.

Lake Lindenhubble, 52.

Ishpa makes 36.

Jake Condon filling in for Jim Young today on your post game coverage and a fantastic way to open the season for Lakeland and Hubble.

After a seven and two season last year, a playoff victory.

They start this year off right with a big resounding win against the team they have not had the opportunity to face off against in seven years.

Going into a couple of our segments here the pivotal play of the game brought to you by copper country Ford I've got to go for the last play of the first half Where I believe it was Brady Axford completed the pass to his brother Lucas in the end zone or Tyler Excuse me in the end zone to end the first half with a touchdown picked up a two-point conversion for Tyler Axford as well That was a massive play that set the tone going into the half It gave the lakes a massive lead going into the game.

So fantastic job

by the lakes to hold on to it.

Despite it getting fairly close, I want it being a two-score difference to end the game.

52 to 36 winds up being a score good enough to hold, and the lakes bring this one home.

An unsung hero, I've got to say, really the entire line for Lake Lindenhubble on both sides of the ball.

A couple players I want to shout out that I didn't get the chance to say much about.

Brayden Bedette, Brody Rust, Xavion Le Prat, and Charlie Hanalt all had fantastic games on the line.

I'm sure there are linemen in there that I'm missing, but...

Fantastic work on both sides of the ball, stifling the hematite run game for most of the duration of the game.

Fantastic job on offense as well, fantastic blocking schemes for Brady Axford and Blake Lebo to make some really big plays for the lakes throughout the entire game.

After a quick break, we're going to go ahead and announce our player of the game, so we'll be right back with that after these brief messages.
