Well, you know, it's funny the weather settled down in our area for the most part and actually the little bit of rain that we've gotten here in the last few days really kind of helped us out a little bit actually because some of the river levels were getting low and there were a few obstacles we were going over that were starting to become
a little bit more of a job to get over, but now the river level's great.
Quite honestly, the issue we have, we're good.
So the good news first, right?
The stretch from Rockbridge down to the County SR Highway 80 landing, so those are two landings.
So you'll start in Rockbridge, and if you choose, it's about an hour and a half to two hours to get down to, for most folks,
to get down to the first landing at the County D Highway 80 bridge.
And you could keep going.
There's another stretch, takes about another hour or so, that would get you down to that County SR, High State Highway 80 landing.
And that's a pretty nice little kayak for everybody.
And that stretch is good.
Now, I'd strongly encourage that folks not go past that.
including, I know a lot of folks, it's a popular stretch want to do from old, or I'm sorry, from Bowens Mill down to Mill Pond Park, but honestly, there are three major blockages there.
We do have a strong hope that this weekend we'll get, Chainsaw Jesus will show up on the banks of the pine, and again, he makes me look like a kindergartner with a chainsaw.
And there are three major blockages that require that kind of professionalism.
And if his schedule frees up, we're going to get him on top of that.
And hopefully we have better news for next week.
But right now those top two sections are the best ones.
And really it's quite pleasant.
The weather is quite pleasant.
Things look good for a trip down the pine this weekend.
I just encourage folks stay on that section.
I'll tell you one of the biggest things, if you're a live music fan and there's a lot of different variety of kinds of music, I would
out to Yuba and just take the like two mile jaunt from Yuba to Driftless Music Gardens.
They have just a fantastic lineup of music that you can go tonight, Friday night, and Saturday night.
And they have just a great lineup of music.
Andy Frasco and the UN are, that's a group.
Really Andy Frasco himself is just wild.
Really great energy, great music.
People Brothers Band is playing.
Chicago Farmer and the Field Notes as well as Kitchen Dwellers.
That really is a great deal and you can get an evening pass.
So you don't have to go camping if that's not your thing.
But local folks can go out and get a sample of what Driftless Music Gardens is all about Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
You can go to our calendar of events and get more information about that as well if you'd like.
But that's really a nice one.
Also, at the 80 German warehouse, the lounge, a great way to kick off your weekend.
Friday night, they have music there.
and they also have food, so they'll have food for purchase, as well as live acoustic music at the 80 German Warehouse this Friday.
So that kind of fills your slate if you're looking for live music in the Greater Richland area this weekend.
Yeah, so the Branding Iron, you know, on Thursday and Saturday nights, you can order directly from their menu with your own farm-raised beef.
I'll tell you,
Steve Fearing does an excellent job with his beef herd, and we're the benefactors then where we get to enjoy farm raised beef and your burger right at the branding iron, and they do an outstanding job.
And then Friday night, you've heard me wax poetic about their fish fry, but the Friday night fish fry at the branding iron, and there are many great ones in the area, but I would, if we ever do a
a sampling or a testing of who has the best Friday night fish fry in the area, I would be willing to wager the branding iron will come up in a pretty top rating on that one.
But I'd encourage folks to check that out if you've never been up there.
And I'm a fan of when you drive up to a place and you look at it from outside, you go, geez, this is where I'm going to get the best food.
And you get inside and it's like, boom, yeah, this is the best food.
I love those little undiscovered gems like that, and the branding iron fits that category very much so.
I promise you that if I wear my penny loafers on the Pine, I would be fortunate just to get out of the Pine with them, so it's a little mucky in some places that may not be a good plan.
