The following is a special sports presentation on WJMS.
Espirus Ironwood Hospital in Ironwood.
Iron County Community Credit Union of Hurley hits fine furniture of Ironwood and Ashland.
Lakeview Dental Agency of Ashland.
Northwood Technical College bringing you the smart choice of the game.
Marthaler Honda Toyota in Ashland and by Wood Tech Builders in Ironwood.
And now let's go out for all the exciting action of high school sports.
Good afternoon, softball fans.
From the Hurley Sports Complex, it's girl softball action this afternoon as the gogibic minors come in the Hurley pick on the Hurley North Stars.
I'm Ron Helverson alongside Randy Charles and Randy, we haven't done softball in quite a while, but we're going to give it a go.
It has been a little while, Ron, but that's okay.
This is nice and this is the two premier teams in the area, so I'm looking forward to this.
It's going to be a fun one.
I've seen these two teams play quite a bit and this will be the first time I've seen them go head to head.
They did have a game earlier this season and we're going to talk about that right now.
I'm going to invite assistant coach Beth Steiger on to the broadcast for a while and talk about the Gugivik minors and how the season is going and welcome.
Thank you for having me.
So your record date?
Overall record right now we're sitting at 17 and 9.
We're through and run conference-wise.
It's been tough to get games in with our lovely UP weather,
of
course.
So we've been, you know, we're hopefully climbing as we enter district starting next week.
Do you know what the parents are for?
I think you have.
Are you
okay?
We start with Ironwood.
We'll be hosting that game at our softball field in Ramsey and then the rest of the districts will be up in Lake Linden.
They're part of our districts too and that's probably for our conference, our biggest rival.
We already played them once up in the districts will be up in Lake Linden.
They're part of our districts too and that's probably for our conference, our biggest rival.
We already played them once up in Lake Lyndon.
Those were some real close, real tough games for us.
We lost both of them in the bottom of the seventh
inning with
walkoff runs that they managed to pull together.
Our team played great.
So, you know, confidence is good that the next team around in districts, we get them and we come out on top and that's the game you really want to win.
So
I heard, I heard it was a double header up there two Fridays ago.
Both games going for the seventh inning, you were up eight to five.
Yeah, it was tough.
But, you know, that softball, you just never know what's going to happen until the last bout.
And they've got a really good pitcher and overall player with them.
And we've got a lot of talent on this team.
We've got six seniors that have, you know, I've had the privilege of coaching since Little League.
I've been involved with the high school program for six years now, four years by Kathy.
And Kathy's really taken this program to the next level, so it's great to be a part of it.
Our pitcher is Olivia Peterson.
She's fantastic behind the mound.
She's got the 203 strikeouts on the season and keeps us in everything.
So we're excited as we finish out our last full week of the season and we're pretty...
you know we're going in the right direction as we enter into districts and you know we're coming off two real strong seasons the last two years we've been able to win our districts and last year we won our region and made it to the district semifinal.
These girls are battle tested.
Yeah we got a lot of
experience at the team and that really certainly helped.
Okay.
appreciate that.
We're going to talk to the early coaching staff too and get their side of the story on how their season's going.
We really appreciate you coming on the air and
filling
in the listening
audience.
Thank you for
broadcasting the girls game.
It's nice to see girls
work
together.
Good luck to
you
guys.
Thank you very much.
All right, thank you.
That's Tiger, switching coach for the group minors, and now we'll try to get Randy King over here to give us a little chat in the
You know, he was over here, wasn't he?
He said
he was going to come when they were doing the warm-ups.
Okay.
When
they were doing their infield.
So, he's going to be in a moment or two, probably, I would think.
Yeah, he's making his way over here.
Yeah, he is.
Got people to talk to, though.
See that?
Well, he's the popular guy.
Well, should be, when you're a head coach.
Everybody wants to know, am I in coach?
Hurley coach by Randy King as we await his walk over here from the Hurley dugout.
Go give it a coach by Cassie Hutari.
Assisted by Patience Haru and Hurley assisted by Jackie Franzoi.
And
here you go.
All right, Randy King.
It's coach of the Hurley North Stars, Randy.
Another
gloomy cloudy day in Hurley for softball.
Well, I think it's one of the best days of weather.
Otherwise, we've had to be honest with you.
It's not, uh, yeah, well, it's not bad.
I mean, at least we're not fighting the snowflakes.
Yes.
Um, that was your Friday night tough, tough game, but, uh, Northwoods was a very good ball club, aren't they?
Well, yeah, they are.
They're not 19 and two for nothing.
And, you know, you don't find them any high school softball games.
It goes 0-0 through 12 innings there.
So,
Both teams played well, but unfortunately they ended up pulling it out.
The
girls, you've probably given them the weekend off.
The first time you see them, what's the attitude after Friday?
They're a good bunch of kids.
They've been playing softball forever together.
They've been through the ups and downs softball brings.
No, attitudes are good.
We're looking forward to the playoffs, looking forward to today.
Conference champs.
conference champ.
That was nice.
You had a nice outright conference champ.
You
beat Mellon back to back
a couple weeks ago and that gave
you
the
conference.
Yeah, we got a number three seed yesterday in the playoffs.
Okay, I was going to ask you about that.
Yeah, we were booting for a two.
Computer rankings had us as two, but you know, sometimes when you have those coaches seating meetings, they kind of
you know there's a little bias there nobody wants to travel north i'm sure that's part of it but conference coaches stick together too so i don't know how you can argue when the computer has us as tool when you put everything into account they use the same algorithm as football and basketball but uh it is what it is we'll just have to take it game by game that's all does that give you a home game or would you?
yeah first round buy in a home game next tuesday against shawamagen okay
all right good deal
All right.
Yeah, looking forward to a good ball
game
today.
I think you played this team earlier in the season.
We did.
We played in Ashland because of the weather.
Ashland's field was clear.
So we went up there and played and we had a good game.
We had a 6-5 us in the bottom of the sixth.
They ended up pulling an output.
It was a battle.
Yeah, they're a good team.
Okay, I'm looking for a good ball game tonight too.
You and me
both.
All right.
Thanks, Randy.
Good luck.
Thank
you.
Randy King, coach of the early North Stars.
We get ready for softball action here in Hurley.
And Randy, I would guess
I don't know your life style in the spring, but is this your first softball game?
No, that's my second
one.
I went to one of the miners when they
were
here too.
So you're well versed in the miners?
I've been to a couple miners game, been to a couple early games.
Which is one of the reasons why I chose this game.
Wow, these are two
really
good teams.
That's why that's a fist.
You know, you don't get fired up to watch a 38 to 1 game or anything like that, but this could be a really good game.
So we will see how it goes tonight.
Why don't you...
start
with the
starting lineup for the the team I'm not sure who's adding first I'm not sure what to go with it but early we all yeah hurly's in the field that's what I said was adding first that means it's the miners okay for the miners the starting lineup will be starting at shortstop will be Emily Del Farrell starting a pitcher Olivia Peterson catcher Emma Chiranzi our designated hitter is Ken Lee Anderson first base
Paul Audrey stone and And I got second base Noel grace Right in left field here frisbee center field excuse me right field Layla keys center field Corinne Cole and Kayla parent will be flexing and We're getting ready to go already and Emily do ferrell's ready to step up to the plate.
So we are here the 26 season ready to go rod.
All right
Both pitchers today are named Olivia for early Olivia DeGiorgio.
We'll be going up against Olivia Peterson for the minors.
I think I have the Hurley defense pretty much memorized Olivia DeGiorgio on the mound, Bella DeRosso at catcher, Sailor Gilbertson at first, Piper Ramos at second, Riley Nyquist at third, Lily Young's at short.
Left field is Keelan Shewitt.
Center field is Maddie Shewitt.
And right field is Taylor Shitter.
How's that for a baseball name?
Taylor Shitter?
You can't beat that name.
The only thing I think you could have is maybe Homer.
Homer Inter.
They need to have it beat, but that's great.
No, and if you hear a little wind in our mics tonight, we got a little breeze that comes and goes at times.
And if you turn a certain way, it really hits us too.
Yeah, there's no
seat.
There's no press box here in Hurley, so we're on the element.
Let's just hope it does not rain because that would really do some damage, I think.
So Emily Del Faro steps up, batting left-handed, and really little infield meeting on the mound is over with, and we are set.
Glad you could join us for a softball action over the Georgia winds and fires.
And Olivia fresh back from the playing in the all-star game of Wisconsin.
A lot of folks here are proud of her.
She did.
She really represented her really well.
Strike one on the first pitch.
Ball inside Tim France.
Upping down the first baseline and Todd Mackey behind the plate.
The Georgia winds and delivers and it is strike two.
I'm not, I'm not sure Emily Del Faro agreed with that one, but she didn't have a
chance.
One and two on Del Faro.
And Emily down on strikes.
One out.
We'll bring up Olivia Peterson.
We're in number 13.
Did you heard you go winds and fires?
That's high and outside.
Georgia does have a nice pitch.
She's got some speed on that ball.
I've never seen her with anything but a knee brace on.
Ever since she's been playing ball.
Any ball, I mean.
Ball ball and dessert.
2-0 on Petership.
Just another way here in Hurley.
Top of the first inning.
Clouty, windy, but somewhat warmer than it's been.
Yes.
It's actually supposed to keep dropping during the day.
It was
That's the middle 60s and now it's supposed to be down to like, low 50s by the time we're done.
Oh, there's
a shot up between short and third base and Peterson on with a single halfway to second.
She's going to turn around and come back to first.
I
wasn't sure she was stopping or not.
She took a big turn there.
You're right, halfway to second.
She's like, you and I are.
Once we get that head of steam going,
it's hard to slow down at first.
She's fast like us too though.
I noticed that right away when she ran.
She was just like, we were in our younger days last
year.
It brings up Emma Chiranzi to catch her.
Strike
one on Chiranzi.
So, Rod, you guys are heading with a really what an honor for Marty's Golden Heirs to be marching.
What day do you guys actually march?
Monday.
It is on Memorial Day, though.
Okay.
Chiranzi with a swing and a miss.
Miners in some of the games I've seen are very, very aggressive on the base pass.
Oh, and two on Emma.
And strike three Peterson's gonna make it down to second on the steal throw is Not controlled by Lily Young's was in the center field, but Peterson stays at second two outs runner at second and Kenley Anderson the DH
Kelly with a lot of power here.
She's got to be able to connect with one of Olivia's pitches
Oh, outside.
One
on one, Anderson.
Two out to the top of the first, and... Ball falls, goes over the backstop.
Makes it one in
one.
Wines and delivers Sling and a miss by Anderson.
We are just off to the left of the go give it double You'll be picking up some of their chair
right next to the on-deck circle.
So we're on deck Rod
Canley takes ball to two balls two strikes two outs Olivia Peterson at
second
I didn't catch the score of the earlier game this season, but I do know Gogirik
won that game.
Oh, whoa, three and two.
Olivia Peterson with a good leadoff second, and she will probably take a bigger lead now.
Oh, she doesn't have to go on this.
And we're going to miss.
Ball gets passed to Ketcher, Kenley Anderson throwing out at first, and that will do it for the
Miners in the first after one-half inning it's go give it to zero and Hurley coming about we'll take a 30-second break come back with more action here in Hurley we
check your pulse we examine your symptoms but what we see is you we see the promises of youth
The joys of growth and the wisdom of experience.
Throughout your entire life's journey, we are right here with you, alongside you, and ready to serve you and your family, helping you get the most out of a healthy life.
Healthcare is a lot of things, but the best care is human.
Aspirous health, passion for excellence, compassion for people.
All right, back here in Hurley as we are going to the bottom of the first.
No score in this ball game, Randy.
Do you have Hurley's
Bayland?
No starting lineup for Hurley.
We got the speedster Lily Young leading it off, followed by Bella DeRosso.
Then Olivia DeGiorgio will be the pitcher batting third.
Sailor Gilbertson batting clean up the first baseman.
Raleigh Nyquist the third baseman batting fifth, then followed by Piper Ramos, Cleaney Lombardo, Kailin Hewitt, Taylor Hitter, and Madden Hewitt.
And we're ready to go already.
All right.
Liga Peterson winds and delivers to Lily Young.
Swing and a miss.
Strike one on Youngs.
Audrey Stone at first.
Well, Grace at second.
Emily Delfero at short.
Swing and a miss.
By Youngs, two
strikes.
It still amazes me.
Every time I watch this, and you know, I'll pass.
They actually throw under her head.
Oh, you
bet.
And with accuracy.
I know.
I just break my arm trying to throw under her head like that.
Well, it takes a practice for a while, but yep, they can really do it.
And the wind in the livers, and as the shot right back to Peterson and the mound, she goes over to stone for the first stone.
One down for early
things up.
Nice candy hop right back to Peterson.
Just tight, she just grabbed it, turned it over all the time in the world.
She didn't even get nervous at all.
Just grabbed that mound, threw it over.
Tell them they're a little son of a batter.
Catcher.
No batting.
Yeah, you pitch for a softball.
You know those fast ones.
Yeah.
Quick hitters back to the pitchers long.
They'll wake you up in a hurry, won't they?
Yeah, they do, but
these guys are athletes at this age and at this level, these are two good teams.
Shot down the third baseline gets past Perry and it's gonna roll all the way to the fence to Rosso rounding second and I think she's gonna stay at second.
She is.
Nice solid double right down the line for DeRosso.
Just got past Kaylin Parrot at third.
Just maybe a foot inside the line and ran all the way back to the fence.
Kara Frisbee got over there in a hurry and cut it off to hold her to a double.
I thought we were gonna see a triple for sure on that
one.
Run her a second with one out and leave her to Georgia or the batter.
First pitch was a little high, ball one.
No score in Hurley, glad you could join us.
Strike about chest high and count is at one and one, now with one out.
Bella DeRosa at second, no score.
Peterson winds in the liver through the shot to center left field and over the head of Frisbee.
And Ross is going to score and Olivia the George is going to end up with a double.
That was a solid hit by Olivia the Giorgio.
And Hurley, courtesy runner going in.
What do you say it was?
Addison Eater?
No, not Eater.
I
think it's
Amundsen, wasn't it?
No, they got their jacket.
I can't see the number.
It
doesn't matter.
Somebody's in there to run.
Yep.
I know she told you but I didn't write that down.
I thought it was just their their flex person, but it's not their flex person.
That's a runner.
There's Sailor Kilbertson now Stepping up to the plate Her dad got her just in time.
He just came walking by Neil just behind us there I was getting ready to come up to the
plate so One nothing harrow you with the one out here in the bottom of the first We'll be a piece of some wines and delivers All down low
All one on.
Sorry, well to win, but
Ylvertson was able to hold on to that one too.
He just about committed.
Stopped by.
Ylvertson is over the head of Cole.
She got the tip of her glove on it, but then Ylvertson is going to get a triple.
I
thought that ball was going over the fence, but the relay from Emily Dofer was a little bit high over third baseman.
DeGiorgio comes in the score and early goes up 2-0.
Some solid hits here by DeGiorgio and Gilbertson.
Those are good solid pokes.
Both of them over the head of the fielders.
Both times the fielders had a chance to catch them.
Who's this?
That is Riley Nyquist.
The batter.
Piper Reynolds on deck.
Or Reynolds.
She has some big hits against Mellon.
You can go to that in a second or two.
Went on a couple weeks ago against Mellon on Tuesday.
He had a really good share of the conference and then they played Mellon here two nights later on Thursday and beat him and won the conference title all right.
One and two on Mike List.
One out here on the bottom of the first two, nothing early.
Here's the pop-ups and high up in the air.
Shiranji got a beat on
it.
What a
catch!
Fantastic catch by Shiranji.
She stayed with that.
Falling down actually, and she managed to hang on to it.
I
thought there was no way she was gonna catch him.
It looked like that, but it's a great catch.
It was high, and it was tailing away from her.
She stuck with it.
Well, that's the first out.
Excuse me, the second out.
Lilian's let off the open.
Like the Ramos with a shot.
and it's going to fall in between left field and shortstop and Hurley scores another one.
Typer Ramos locks in Gilbertson and Hurley goes up 3-0 here in the first.
Hurley jumping on him early this time.
They don't want to take a chance at having that comeback beat them in the end.
They're just going to jump on
quick.
Amy Lombardo is at her.
She is the designated hitter.
Shot to the right center and that one's gonna roll to the fence.
Ramos is gonna come in the score.
Lombardo's gonna get a triple.
And it's 4-0 in early.
Boy, there was one more solid poke round.
Those are just solid, solid hits.
It is Kaelin Shewitt.
And a lot of these names I recognize from the basketball part.
Yep.
If Olivia Peterson got a little mad, she'd
put some fire in that last
pitch.
Ball two on Hewitt.
Hewitt the left fielder.
Four nothing Hurley.
This one is sent over the backstop.
It'll be two and one now on Keelan Hewitt.
Two outs here in the bottom of the first.
Four nothing
Hurley.
Couple of doubles, couple of triples.
And strike right down the middle.
Best I can see.
Yeah, it was right down the middle of just above knee height.
Perfect pitch.
Two and two now.
And strike the tree on Shewitt.
And that will do it for Hurley in the first, but they come up with four runs and after one complete.
It's really forked.
We'll give it nothing.
We'll be back in 30 seconds.
The Iron County Community Credit Union thanks all of its current members and encourages you to see why more and more people are becoming ICCCU members.

There's never been a better time to see what ICCCU can do for you because at Iron County Community Credit Union, everything we do, we do for you.
I guess not
too many.
All right back here in Hurley as we move to the top of the second.
4-0 in Hurley and loose coming up.
I was waiting.
We got leading it off for the minors will be Audrey Stone followed by Grace, Prisbee and Keist.
We've got a flyover now for the game.
Not nice.
Well, they missed the beginning of the game, but they made it to the second inning.
They thought the game was starting at 430.
And they were waiting for the national anthem to start and never sang it,
so.
So, Audrey Stone will leave it off here in the top of the second.
Let's see it, Audrey.
Slowly up, forward or nothing.
Noel and Nicole Grace is on deck.
Little meeting of them all with the early infield.
Sometimes they come out ready to play and sometimes they have a little bit of a chat.
You have to tell jokes when you do that.
So Stone steps up, winding over by the georgio and that is a little upside.
Oh, I got a leg cramp already.
I'm telling you, second inning.
Gotta relax that now, Rod.
Okay.
As long as it's not a month cramp.
Ball bound low,
two nothing on Stone.
You throw low to her.
You're really throw low because she's way up there.
She's a six footer, so she can handle it.
The high ones.
Oh, and a miss by Stone.
Two and one to count.
We're all graced on deck followed by Kira Prisbee and Layla Keast.
Top of the second here.
Crowd's starting to foul in now.
Is that a
hitter?
Maybe it's glanced up.
Yeah, I did
hit her.
She didn't
seem
to flinch at all.
Hit my pitch.
Stone goes first.
No outs.
Grace now better.
Carapris beyond that
you got the tenacious Carapris beyond that just waiting to slam that ball
Although low and by the Rosso, but stone stays at first.
She thought about it.
She started down that you know, that
was another count on grace and here's a swing and a mess Well, even the count at one apiece
Stone plays second base for the miners.
Excellent volleyball player among
other
things.
Ball down low, two and one.
Grace.
Grace.
You should stone play second base for the miners, but it
was... I was looking that way.
It's
fine.
Yep, she's the volleyball player of the year in the Western Conference here.
Three and one the count on Grace.
Georgia winds in the livers and here's a pop-up behind second base and this one's gonna fall in.
Sloan's got to get the second and she does.
I guess she doesn't.
No, just get the fielder's choice now.
Grace is safe on the fielder's choice at first.
No single ticket.
Shame.
Andre Sloan was in a bad spot.
She had to wait to see if it was caught.
She had to kind of hang her own first.
And then once it fell, it didn't fall far behind second base, and they managed to get the throw before she got to the base.
So, of course, out at second, one out.
Here's ball one on Prizby.
They have a keystone deck.
One-on-one to count with the one out, near the top of the second.
Four-nothin' Hurley leads.
Giorgio winds in the rivers, swinging a miss by
Pizby.
One and two the count.
Giorgio with the pitch, that's going to be high and outside two and two.
One
nothing early in the top of the second.
Four big runs for Hurley to start to.
A game for
them, swinging a ball of chip.
Can't stay that two and two.
A
ball of
chip back to the backstop.
She stayed alive.
She's getting the piece of that ball each time.
Two balls, two
strikes, one
out.
Giorgio
winds in the livers and strikes three on
Brisbane.
I noticed she bats right handed.
She's a lefty in basketball.
I thought it
matters, but we're going to case the batter.
He's right
field for the miners.
Strike right on the middle and Grace is going to take off the second.
One are in scoring position now with one more two
outs.
Keith's batting left-handed.
Giorgio winds and delivers shot.
Almost
just wide a third.
No balls, two strikes on Keith's.
Very set second.
And Karin Cole on deck.
Little high.
One and two the count on
Kiest.
Georgia Wines delivers and called third strike and Kiest is out.
For the miners in the second inning, no runs after one and a half.
It's really four.
and we'll give it zero, we'll take a 30 second break.
This is Bob at Carry Mine Market.

to 9 p.m.
daily, 715-561-2995.
All right, back here in Hurley as we move to the bottom of the second with Hurley leading four to nothing.
We've got
Taylor Hitter leading it off for Hurley and then Lily Young and Bella DeRosal.
They get two triples and a double in that
first.
Two doubles, a triple and a
single.
This is Taylor Hitter.
Yes.
Swing and a miss by Hitter.
Strike one.
Like Rod said, what a great name to have.
Just a terrific
name.
Pitch by Peterson is a little low, even to count.
One ball, one strike.
Wayne
delivered by Peterson.
Swing
and a
miss by Hitter.
It's
a little low in the dirt.
It gets beyond, gets past Yoranzi, nobody on base, nothing hurt.
Two balls, two strikes, nobody out here.
With the appearance of wind and the letters and it's a pop-up.
And where's that going?
We're
safe.
Right over us, but it was...
Back there a little further.
I figured if it comes near us, Rod's going to dive and save us.
I'll save the equipment first.
Pitch a little high outside even counts.
I mean makes it three and two now on hitter.
He just had the wines and deliverers and this is a walk to hitter.
So do we call her Taylor Walker?
I guess so, Rod.
Lily
Young's not a batter.
Top of the order for the North Stars.
Perfect bunt by Lily Young, and she's going to get on.
Well, we saw that speed on the basketball court.
We did.
She is fast.
That bunt went about two feet in front of
home plate.
Perfect.
It was.
It just died right there.
You don't stand a chance of getting that.
No other role so what she do last name
last day she had a trip with all the double excuse me I'm right over the left fielder That's barely over left fielder Just got a little piece of other glove, but didn't get enough to catch it
first pitch ball one second pitch is a higher we got a straight.
I don't know what he called.
What do
you hear?
He
said high or strike.
Yeah,
two balls.
Yep, it was ball Well, we know what he called that time really a strike
Yeah, I think about softball is how fast it moves up.
It just moves right along.
Oh, is that struck?
It might be right off the fence.
This is going to drive in two more runs.
And also with a double to deep center field, well, maybe what?
Left center field, I guess.
Yeah, but it hit right out the fence.
That
was well
stroked.
Two
for two
with two doubles for Bella so far.
It's nothing Hurley In the bottom of the second brings up Bolivia to Giorgio.
I've only got five, Rod.
Two runs came in.
Peter scored.
Yes, I just
didn't mark her in.
Good thing you know
what you're doing,
Rod.
Oh, I got them looking at scoreboard.
Ooh, a changeup by Peterson.
That one came in real slow.
Three and all Down the middle.
I think the Georgia was taken on that one anyway
right here, right?
She was those next pitch
Strike two
on the Georgia.
She wasn't taken on that one Once again, Olivia had some heat on that to Olivia
There's a pop follow behind the backstop where the fans along the the bench is over there
Fixed
nothing, Hurley.
And here's one in the dirt.
The Georgia was going to get a lock.
They're also going to take third on the pass ball.
And Hurley got runners on the corners here with no one else.
Courtesy
runner for the Georgia.
Yeah, she gets around a lot better on that knee than she was a couple years last year for sure.
You know the Georgian still good
The Overson showed Bunt Took a call to strike one and the courtesy runner I don't remember who they said was gonna be a courtesy runner All down low even it's calling that one piece One ball one strike nobody out here in the bottom of second
Hurley came to play today.
I saw the game the other night, and they were shot out by up with Solon Springs.
Excellent ball game though, 12 innings.
Here's a shot to the Georgia or Del Ferro, play at the plate, and the Rosso is called out.
It's a play by Del Ferro to get the lead runner.
So, 1-0 as, um, was first at home, D'Horses?
D'Horses, yep.
So, no, we have runners on first and second.
So, we'll go back and we'll be safe on the fielder's choice.
All
right, so, I thought that was going to fall, but it
stayed
fair.
It was
fair.
It was good.
It was good.
It was a pop-up in the infield, Sranji came out of the catcher stance, couldn't make the catch, but got the lead runner at third, or did they call?
No.
She's out of third,
yes.
I was thinking, yeah, I don't think there's an infield flyer or a softball.
There's a line shot by Lombardo.
Just laughed.
Scores a run and Lamargo's gonna end up on second as the play came to home plate Gilbertson ends up on third another run for the North stars here seven to nothing That was Lamargo, right?
No, I was
Ramos with Ramos
Ramos with us with us.
Okay.
This is Lamargo.
Yeah, Lamargo is up now Lamargo not Lamargo, he's still somewhere
Seven-and-nothing Hurley, two holds here in the bottom of the second, and oh, and two count now on Lombardo.
She had a big hit last inning too, didn't she?
She had a double as well, right over the...
She
has a tripler, triple, I
mean.
She's right over center field, yes.
She's got some wines and delivers, and here's a high pop up in the infield, paring under it, and she makes the catch.
for the third alt, but for Hurley, three runs.
And after seven, er, seven complete, and we'd be out here, wouldn't it?
I think we would.
After two innings, it's Hurley seven, and we'll give it nothing, we'll take a 30 second break.

All
right, back here in Hurley, and we go to the top of the third.
Who we got?
We have, leading it off, will be Corinne Cole.
Followed by Kaelin Perrin, and on top of the order, Emily Delferro and Olivia Peterson.
Seven to nothing, Hurley.
It will actually be Kaelin Perrin as a flex person.
She won't be batting, I don't know what I was thinking.
So it'll be Corinne Cole followed by Emily Del Ferrell.
Randy King did say that Hurley is the three seed to get a buy and a home game.
Yep, that's nice.
A lot
of 16
teams.
The only thing is the two seed would have had the two home games.
Seven or nothing as we go to the top of the third.
Hurley's infilled meeting around the pitcher is over with and we are set to go here.
Karin Cole now at the plate.
Georgia Wines and the Livers fall outside high, ball one.
Giorgio delivers, and here's a fall ball behind us.
As long as
it's behind us and not at us, Rod, we're
okay.
I agree.
Giorgio winds and delivers.
Cole with a swing and a miss, makes it 1-2.
Emily Del Faro on the on-deck circle.
Giorgio goes in Hawaiian.
All the side, even the cone had two balls on two strikes.
I'm kind of glad that rain held off.
Oh yeah.
Still early in the game but it's playing a miss by Cole and she's down on strikes.
Or number one.
Brings up Emily Del Ferrell.
The first pitch by the Georgia was right down the middle, strike one.
It would be a Peterson on deck.
Apparel wanted to, tried
to bunt.
Think about Emily, Randy, no matter what she's doing, she's going to smell anything.
She checked with Emma Taranzi just to make sure she was okay, and Emma said she was good.
Ball ball, over the backstop, and that makes it 0-2 on Delfero.
One out here in the top of the third.
Ball outside, Delfero batting left-handed.
1-2,
1-0 here in the third, and Delfero sends one down the third baseline foul.
and the count will stay at one and two.
Our possible next broadcast could be next Friday after Memorial Day.
11 days from now is what you're saying.
Go Givick plays Ironwood in the district tournament
in Ramsey.
Well, no, this is a hard ball now.
Oh, the other one
the girls and Yep arrow down on strikes or out number two I know it plays go gimmick in one of the games North Dickinson plays you in in the other game and the two winners play right after
The second game.
The Giorgio's got in seven of the eight outs on strikeouts.
Yeah,
he's
pitching.
One fielder's choice.
He's pitching a great game.
Peterson the batter, Emma Chironzion deck.
Seven to nothing early.
We're two outs here in the third.
I was looking to get something going.
Here's a little slow roller out of bounds down to her.
How to play it on the first baseline.
One
and two on Peterson.
Down the third baseline fair ball, Nyquist cannot handle it.
Peterson going to try for two and she's going to get there easily.
In the second with a double for Peterson.
Nearly caught by Nyquist because Nyquist dove to her right.
Off her glove.
The second time in the game, the miners have a runner on second base.
Sronze the batter, and Leander sent on deck.
First pitch is high.
Ball one.
Sronze sends one behind the backstop.
Ooh,
that one got a car.
Off the truck over there.
It's been quite a few balls hitting that direction.
You should have parked over there.
Yeah,
I should have.
I parked miles away.
It's
by the Georgia, it was right down the middle, makes it one ball too straight.
Emma said it wasn't, she shook her head and all.
To her coach, she just looked to her coach and shook her head and all, like that wasn't the straight.
Ball outside.
Two and two to count.
Two balls, two strikes, two outs.
Ken Le Anderson on deck with the miners.
We trail seven and nothing here in the top of the third.
And another one sent over the backstop.
I know it was displeased when you get fold balls.
At least it means you're getting the bat on the ball or something.
You're only missing by an inch, then.
This one has popped up to the third and a little young.
She got over there way quick.
I didn't even see her coming over there.
Pop up right behind the third basement to young's the shortstop or the third out.
I'll do it for the miners in the third after the tree complete.
No, two and a half.
Two and a half.
early seven and we'll give it nothing.
We'll take your 30 second break.

At Marthaler Hanatoyota of Ashland, we're just like the view, the deals are superior.
All right, back here in Hurley as we go to the bottom of the third, Hurley leading seven to nothing.
And we got coming up for Hurley.
Well,
if you come on the right side, I can tell you it's going to be Kaylin Hewitt followed by Taylor Hitter and top of the order, Lily Youngs.
So Hewitt is, she struck out the first time at that.
She's the only player so far that hasn't reached base, but it's only again only the third inning so The only early player that has a week This
will wind up in the livery by Pearson high and it's ball one All the games I've seen go give it play Peterson has been the only picture I've seen He's a
all good thing you're
The vehicle wasn't parked over there, Rod.
I know.
That's what you
said, the park.
Yeah, I did.
It went right over top of yourself.
Of course, on the other hand, of all the early games I've seen, it's always been to Georgia.
One thing about girl softball or Andy is they can pitch as many pitches as they want.
As long as
they have rubber or molds out,
they can
just keep going.
Unlike baseball, where you have a number of pitches.
Here's the ball high.
She
had a little curve ball that time.
Came off the side of her hand.
That's kind of a neat.
Lookin' pitch.
Two balls, two strikes on Kaelin Hewitt.
Wind up in delivery.
That's gonna be low.
It's gonna load it or make a full count.
Three balls, two strikes.
Three balls, two
strikes.
There's a pop-up too short.
Delfero should have it and she does.
The infielders wear a mask, some don't.
I think everybody on Hurley does.
Pitcher has to within
its discretionary after that.
Pitcher and Kedger, of course, has to.
Well, we got one out and Taylor hit her the better.
I know she walked last time.
She did.
First pitch in there for strike one.
You're just winding the livers and it's going to be high outside.
Evens the count at one ball, one strike.
One ball, one strike, one out.
Swing and miss by Hitter.
One and two to count.
Oh, what a pretty change.
That
was a terrific change.
Wow.
had her fooled.
She swung about five seconds early.
Probably something I would have done too.
Oh,
she had to watch those come in that fast.
Lily Young's not batting.
Let her change up and this is right back to Peterson on the mound and boy, she didn't throw a whole lot of pictures of that.
No,
she didn't.
No runs for Hurley in the third, and after three complete, it's Hurley seven, and we'll give it nothing.
We will take your 30-second break, and we'll be right back.
When you're a delivery driver, you live and die by the clock.

All right, back here in Hurley as we move to the top of the 4th, Hurley and Fortin 7 Nothing.
And
leading it off to the 4th will be Kenley Anderson followed by Stone, Grace and Prizby.
All right, as the Georgia goes through her warm-ups.
Maybe the warmest day I've been to a softball game.
Well,
that sentence didn't make sense, but
no, that's okay.
Of all the softball games I've been to, this is the warmest day.
I'll bet you everybody knows what you meant.
I bet you every time I'm being uttered, you know what you meant.
Everybody, yeah, I tried to say it.
I tried to say what I wanted to say, but... Sometimes it just doesn't come out that way.
Yeah, Roger's all...
Concentrate on his trip to DC coming.
Oh, I guess
an honor.
That's a neat thing So how many do you actually have marching representing Marty's as the more as
well?
We're gonna have 73 in the parade.
Nice.
We've got Two guys from Lakefield, American Legion's gonna join us.
We've got five Color Guard members from lower, Michigan I think some of the legions put some guys together and they're gonna meet us out there
And then we're going to have two guys from Desmer, two former members are going to carry the banner.
We haven't had a banner in many, many years.
So we're going to have a banner.
Nice.
And then we've got, let's get to this game.
We'll
catch up to the plate.
Anderson takes the ball one.
She takes a look outside at that one.
We'll roll the count.
Don't you whine from the liver?
This may bring rain.
She stayed with the third baseman, and that was high.
I don't think you can get a pop of any of that.
I think there's a little bit of trouble with it, but she managed to keep it in her glove for the first out,
and we've got Audrey Stone now batting.
Oh, excuse me.
Yeah, it is out of store.
What am I thinking?
Race on deck.
First pitch by the Georgia was a ball.
Second one swung on and followed my stone.
One-on-one to count.
One out here on top of the fourth.
Minus trailing seven to
nothing.
They will play Ironwood in their first district game and the winner of that game I believe will play the winner of Hancock and Lakeland and I think that's the way it works
Stone takes a look at strike
two three.
I mean, excuse me
Well, it's
with the miners here in the top of the fourth and great snow batting Prison beyond desk
Grace takes strike one right down the middle Georgia winds and delivers and shot the second
base Nice grab by the second baseman
Piper Aramos And for Gugivik in the fourth no runs after three and a half score remains Early seven
We'll give it nothing.
We'll be back in 30 seconds.

All
right, back here in Hurley as we move to the bottom of the fourth.
Hurley leading seven to nothing.
What have we got coming up for Hurley here?
Well,
we have Bella DeRoso with back-to-back doubles and then Olivia DeGiorgio and Sailor Gilberts in the cleanup hitter.
So what do you do, Randy?
Do you walk her?
Do you pitch around her?
I pitch to her.
Olivia's up there, ready to go.
She wants to get her this time.
Just watch and see.
That
changeup did not work.
It was way not that one.
You
just held back.
Great timing by DeRosa.
DeRosa with a single to the left.
And really got base runners again.
Well, the changeup worked last inning, but...
I think you got to throw a fast one first to kind of get the timing off a
little.
The second forcing DeRosso at... The ball was hit the second.
DeRosso forced that second.
DeRosso safe at first.
That went off the glove of Pearson.
Yes it did.
It
slowed it down a little bit.
So one out for Hurley, you're in the fourth.
Sailor Gilbertson now the batter.
And she's had some good hits.
She got a little early on that one.
She's got a good little antsy.
Pearson really makes them in that change up.
They're not that bad.
Taranzee shows she's not afraid to throw from catchers, she's got it.
She was right the first perfect throw right
there.
Peterson winds and deals, and here's a full order play.
Strike two on Gilbertson, one and two with one out, here in the bottom of the fourth.
Peterson winds and delivers, and that's a
change
up.
Kind
of got away from it a little bit, there's just been a little high.
Looks more like a softball pitch than it did a hurtball pitch.
Two balls, two strikes.
Oh, Gilbert's in with a shot to center field, and Cole there to make the catch, gets it in the infield right away, and
nice arm from Cole, too.
She just turned around and fired that right through the second base.
So that makes it two outs, with the runner still on first.
Riley Nyquist now coming to bat.
How's
her afternoon going?
Well, Riley so far has...
She fly it out.
She popped up to the catcher.
That was a real nice catch that Emma Taranzi made there and then she was safe on a fielder's choice.
First pitch by Peterson is low for ball one.
Peterson wind and deliver that one's gonna be high.
Knight Coast almost went after it.
Having nothing early here in the bottom of the fourth.
Another high one.
All of
a sudden, three and all,
they
count.
It appears it was high on all three of those pitches there.
That's four of them that were high.
Four pitch
walk.
Magnus moves to first.
And mystery runner, courtesy runner, moves to second.
Emerson first and second, two outs.
Balled on the third and
That's final out
Aaron just steps on the the bag for the last boat Who is that better
that was Ramos
Ramos, okay?
I'll do it for the fourth after four complete early seven and we'll give it nothing we'll be back in 30 seconds

All right, back here in early.
Randy and Ron bringing you softball.
Actually, boy, it's been a while since we did softball.
Well, it has, but it's nice to be back at it, but it's nice to see two good teams like this going at it.
And leading it off to the minors here in the minors top of the fifth will be Kara Prisbee, followed by Leila Keith and Corinne Cole.
I like that chant.
I do
too.
Coming from the Grogibbock dugout as they're trying to fire up the girls here.
Seven to nothing as we move to the top of the
fifth.
And the meeting of the early in-drillers is over with.
The Georgie are ready to work.
Frisbee steps in.
We are set to go.
I
found the middle.
Strike one on Prisbee.
I'll mid-dine on the middle.
There's no geowinds in the livers and that one is
just outside.
I
don't want
them to come.
I
don't
think about where we're sitting here.
We got a good view of the whole plate.
Yes,
not from behind it, but we still got a good view of everything that's going on.
Yeah, we're kind of guessing if it's high or outside or something like that.
Well, you can tell if it's high.
Yeah, that's okay.
You
can...
You should have a monitor for us, right?
Yes.
Do you want to do the count on Frisbee?
Nobody else here in the fifth?
Mine is trillion by seven here.
The georgio winds and over is that's gonna be south the middle and it's gonna break its way through the center field
Just hard enough to get to everybody
In
a rod that is the first hit of the game is it first first hit for the miners wall No, I take it back Olivia Peterson now double
I just didn't see that till just now, but yep.
Second hit.
Okay, how's it
going?
Crisby's still second.
Nice throw down by Bella de Rosso.
Little young scurvy down there, just that the throw was there, but Crisby was just a step or two faster.
And as we've seen, she's quick.
She's caught in a
hiccup.
Seven to nothing.
Leila Keese to lefties up the plate now.
Oh, she's out that side.
Oh, she might have made it.
I think she got under.
She got into a run-down between shorts, they say, call her out or safe.
I couldn't see what he, oh, call her safe, okay.
Yeah, she was dead doc, she was heading to third and they started the ball on third and she was two-thirds of the way there, but then she, nice hustle, nice slide back to second to get, was she safe?
Yeah, she was gonna, she got between second and third and ran into a short, she had a short stop.
Turn around and went back.
They had her by the throwback of second.
They had to hit run because Keith tried to punch there, so that was, he tried to, she just missed everything.
One out on the minors.
This brings up.
Karin
Cole though.
First pitch is out.
Side, I believe, was high, ball one.
Kind of
a need for us experience to get to watch all these girls play all these sports over all the years.
It's just the senior year coming to an end for a lot of them.
How fast, how fast their careers went though.
Emily Delmaro nodding
over there right now.
She says, yep, it's quite fast.
I still remember when you said watch these eight graders when they come through the school system.
Yep.
A few more days before we graduate.
It's amazing.
The
four of them were
just...
Fun to watch.
Yep.
Right down the middle.
Three in one as Cole was taken on a three-year-old
count.
The Georgia winds and delivers and...
Full tip back to the backstop.
Makes it three and two now with 1-0.
Nothing early here in the top of the fifth.
Emily Del Faro waits on deck.
Well, Corinne thought she had a walk.
She called for a replay,
right?
I would have tapped my...
Definitely
on
that one.
I definitely would have.
See what works here.
Oh
man.
That was not a strike, but that's okay.
So Farrell with a bunt and she is going to be out at first.
That
was a nice bunt.
That was a terrific bunt.
It stopped right?
I mean that one went two feet in front of home plate instead of ten feet in front of home plate like the other one did before.
Well no runs for.
DeRosa with a nice...
Quick off her catcher stance and the fire is down to first and that will do it for the minors after four and a half score remains early seven and we'll give it nothing We'll take a 30 second break and come back with more action here in early

All
right we're back here in Hurley from the bottom of the fifth leading it off for the Hurley North Stars will be Leni Lombardo followed by Kailin Hewitt and Taylor Hitter.
Peterson with a pitch and it's high for ball one.
with a hot shot right over second.
Played back in by the right fielder, single for Mbardo to start off the inning.
Kailin Hewitt.
Now steps to the plate.
Lekis did a good job of keeping that ball in front of her.
She ran up there, it bounced off her, but she kept her body right in front of it, just like you're supposed to do it.
She bounced to the right, she stopped, she fired it back in.
You had a hit and run on a munt and run on or early, but she wasn't able to complete the bunt just tapped it back so strike one on Kaelin Hewitt See if she tries a bunt again.
Kael's going to bunt again
And
Hewitt is out at first runner advances the second for the sacrifice work for Hewitt So there we have one out
Killer hitter and all the batter Run around second.
Who's our good bunts?
Terrific bunts when they die like that or in front of the plate, especially a sacrifice one like that.
That's a perfect one I One other thing I'm madder.
How much Iran's he has done an amazing job back there?
They've had lots of them in the in the dirt and she's caught everything back there and then one fly ball That one just missed first baseline.
She played third last year in
Kira Graham was the catcher.
That was one of the issues in the off-season.
Who was going to
play
catcher?
Kira
was fantastic catcher last year.
Well, Peter was just wide at first on that last pitch.
Last swing was a pitch.
Okay, Peterson now ready with the next pitch.
Peter steps in.
That one looked kind of good.
I think it fools you up when you come in at that speed, but that was that slow, slow change up.
She follows up with a laser down the middle.
That has got to
look fast after you follow that change up.
Kitter, safe at first.
No great hurt shot the second grace did a good job of stopping that she did she go for it knocked the ball down turned around and fired up It just couldn't get enough on it Hitter was saved by a step.
So we have runners on the corners with one out and Lily on the batter
It's
got a neat play the miners had Kevin Perry coming in on the Bunt and
Del Farrell ran over to third to try to catch her sleeping in third, but they did not catch
him.
Runner moved to second.
Second and third with
1-0.
Well,
yeah, it's a little yellow still a batter.
I was kind of
Just watching the game I guess right in front of Nelson for a second there.
Oh, okay.
Come back Okay, y'all was out at first the runner scores on the outlet first runner from third scores It was what it moves up to third one to three down to three two to three
We're going to break into action here as the Cassie Tarry makes a trip to the pictures moment.
I wonder if we should take a...
Take a 30 second break.
We'll wake up for it.
Let's take a 30 second break.

Two outs, runner on third, one run in already here in the early bottom of the fifth.
One-on-one mounted Doroso.
Peterson still got plenty of steam on that ball, so it shouldn't appear to be getting tired either.
Tried a little curve ball there again.
Two more runs, this game right here over with.
Oh, I forgot about
that.
Well,
haven't even been an hour yet.
2-1.
2-1.
No, no, 3-1.
That was full count.
Doroso tries to lock.
She's been on base every time, hasn't she?
Base on ball, a single.
A double?
And a double, yes.
So now we have them on the quarters with two votes.
And Olivia de Giorgio.
Could it could end this game?
Runner goes down in the second, no!
George here with a single could end this ballgame.
Olivia, there's George here, excuse me.
That's
a
big...
big pop fly but it looks like it's right to the right fielder and caught by the right fielder for the third out he catches that one little shaky but she caught it camped under it for a long time
burgle burley in the fifth one run right
one run so after five we have hurley eight miners yet to score
We'll take a bite.
Go back in 30.

All
right, back here in Hurley as we move to the sixth inning, Hurley eighth, and Golgibbock nothing.
It'll be who?
Olivia Peterson leading it off, followed by Yamashuranzi, and then Kenley Anderson.
That's what I said.
That's what I said?
I don't like it.
That was over there straight in me out I've been saying her name for a hundred nine years or four She's going to give it for basketball go for basketball and volleyball
both basketball and volleyball.
Yep Just telling me earlier that she's excited about that looking forward to
it All right, so the Georgia has finished her warm-ups
And Peterson will step to home plate.
And if they have football next year at Go-Gibbock, Emma's probably going out for football as well.
Yeah.
Swimming, maybe?
Yeah.
Ski team?
Oh, golf, you name it.
How's your spring going so far?
Did you start golfing yet or is it
cold?
It's the first week of April, starting golfing.
It's been perfect.
Then some cold weather in the last two weeks.
First pitch to Peterson is a little outside all one Is a hole behind the backs now
nearly back in the woods
One-on-one the count nobody out here in the fifth in the sixth rather eight nothing early
A little shot to first.
Gilbertson makes the play on assisted.
Well, I don't know.
But he just cannot get anything going against the Gertrude.
Do you
know Saronzee on the batter?
And Leanderson on deck.
Second one to Saronzee.
Giorgio quickly winds and delivers and here's a shot to second little young bobbles it and Sharon she's going to be safe at
first.
Bob will cost her there because Emma can run.
Emma safe at first.
Kenley Anderson now batting.
Audrey Stone on deck.
Take one on Anderson.
One out here in the six get the trailing eight nothing looking to get something going here swinging a miss by Ken the Anderson makes it oh and two There's a high pop up this might be on a play I
think you're right Rod you could have called that a little earlier you You didn't have
a
A whole lot of chance of being wrong than that one being able to play.
Lots of carrots.
Oh, yeah.
I want to mention, too, a lot of mention during the break, not during the game.
Remind me, something to say.
Something important.
Ron got
something important to say, everybody.
Hang on.
Not really.
We're not taking breaks the rest of the game, so we can hear.
There's something that just popped in my mind.
One and two to come.
Let's hope we can stay there for a little while now, Ron.
Oh, Reign shot the short, then Charondi gets back to first.
Wow.
Lily Young's was just
in the right spot.
And she fired a nice ball the first, so just a little in the dirt.
That ball may have ruled to the fence.
It was going left center and
well.
Okay, Audrey Stone now the batter with two outs.
Tronsy on first.
Stone takes ball one.
little grace on deck the georgio won and delivers swing the miss actually a swing in a full ball whether they say swing in the middle or not when the ball went backwards it's
okay she got a piece of it it was low and she got a piece of it anyways that's okay
one on one on
stone
Oh, a little outside.
Two and one to count.
Scrum's yet first.
Not really going to challenge Doroso from the catcher.
Doroso's got a good arm.
Here's a foul tip.
She's in her own inside of her right leg.
I don't know if she could hit that again the way it went off of her leg and
backwards.
Two and two of the count.
Two balls, two strikes, two outs.
And stone down on strikes.
That'll do it for the miners in the six after five and a half.
It's early eight and we'll give it nothing.
We'll be back in 30 seconds.

All right, back here in Hurley as we move
to the bottom of the sixth.
We've got Sailor Gilbertson leading it off for Hurley, the clean-up hitter followed by Riley Nyquist, Piper Ramos, and Laney Lombardo.
I went to the track meet today.
Okay.
In Wakefield Conference Track Meet, Ciri Jacobson, eighth grader.
Fantastic.
In Wakefield, Marinusco, 1600 meter record in
her best time was six minutes and four seconds leading up to the track meet today and she finished 550 that's
fantastic
in between she had a bestie in in front of her and a bestie in behind her
and you know you wonder where she gets that talent she's got two parents that are just fantastic athletes and you just wonder which one passed on that talent
grandma passed on that talent you heard
that
Okay, we got a good play by the shortstop for the first out.
Now Farrell with his spoon to get... What was that?
Gilbertson?
Gilbertson,
yes.
Nyquist now in the batter.
Ramos on deck.
Yeah, so that's a Wakefield Marinette school record.
That's fantastic.
That's great too.
And just a youngster.
Oh, she can break her own record.
Oh, yeah.
in the next four years.
Eight here in the bottom of the sixth, really out in front.
Pearson winds in the livers and a swing and a pull tip by a necklace.
That one's in the dirt.
I would say that was a little bit short.
Who is the moaned in softball 45 feet on what 43 feet One ball two strikes one out here on for Hurley in the bottom of six there's a shot to Delfero and Not handle it like this will be on with a Hit flash maybe
air please think we
That one went right through the legs and under the glove.
I think I got to get there on that one.
I don't like to get errors at this level, but yeah, that one was definitely.
So now we've got Piper Rasmus, Rammels, the batter.
Swing and a miss by Piper.
Lombardi on deck.
He had
the game-winning hit in Mellon a couple weeks ago.
Sacrified slide, drove in the winning run.
and two nights later in a tight ball game she comes up with a double to drive in two runs for her lead
so she's a clutch hitter is what you're telling me
she is and I think she's a freshman if I'm not mistaken here's a pop-up to second base and well grace with the catch and the Nyquist gets back
two down Lombardo no batting Hewitt on deck
Well, you know Hurley stopped started old house of fire.
Everybody was hitting like that and they haven't hit since then since it's a
very early Mbarda with a swing and a miss I Like Pearson's change up what he's really she really mixes it
up.
Yep, and she's got like a slow change up and a fast change up, too And that she sounds all there.
No doubt about it.
That's just zipped her
there
One, two on Lomardo with two ults here in the sixth, and there's a changeup, and that's going to be called third strike.
And Hurley is out in the sixth, and after sixth complete, it remains.
Hurley, eight, will give it nothing.
We'll be back in 30 seconds.
We examine lab results closely.
We monitor treatment progress meticulously.
But what we see is you.
We see how cancer affects the life you lead and touches the love you share.
Even as we practice the latest treatments and consider the most advanced options, what we see is how we can provide the best possible care for you.
Cancer care is a lot of things, but the best care is human.
Aspyrus Cancer Care, what we see is you.
All right, back here in Hurley as we move to the seventh.
North Star is up in front, eight to nothing.
Rand, are you watching any hockey?
Oh, well, yeah, not as much now that all my teams have dropped.
Um, yeah, a little bit.
Well, I was a little, little boy.
I started cheering for the Montreal Canadiens.
Cause I thought they were the only team in... Well, I think
what
I tell people... They won
forever.
That was just like, you probably, you probably, when you're a little started cheering for the Yankees too, cause they won all the time.
You're always won.
Well, that's just my guess.
Well... And then you probably cheered for the Packers cause they, they won all the time too.
That's gotta be your team, right?
I'm just guessing though.
Well, I saw a sign outside of Hurley, I said Montreal and I thought that's what the Canadiens... Oh, one they
were,
yeah.
I thought they were local.
They just
took a bus.
No, I just thought they played at
the... They were the team to beat back in the 60s though.
They really are just like the Yankees and they were except they've never had that dominant again like the Yankees have.
So they got a big game tonight
against Buffalo.
Yep, I'm cheering for the Buffalo savers.
The only team left in there that I'm cheering for.
Okay, Noel Grace coming to bat now.
Followed by Carol Prysby.
And... I don't think we were teased.
Eight-nothin' here.
Top of the seventh.
Go get back to the last chance.
Georgia Wines and Delivers.
There's a shot to second.
Ramos off their glove and...
Great safe at first didn't take the well long to get down the first
base She took off she took those long strides
Strike one two Frisbee Frisbee one for three tonight He talked about Peters and change it, but the Georgia pretty much just keeps that same doesn't have to do anything except no fire that
It's consistent with her pitching.
She's a very good pitcher.
I'll tell you what, it's actually sitting right here.
You really get to enjoy that.
One
ball,
two strikes.
She brings very well.
She will bring the ball back in, something like a pro catcher does back there.
Two balls, two strikes.
Nobody out here are for the miners in the top of the seven, trailing eight to
nothing.
I think she's got her 1,000
strikeouts.
Whoa, that is.
I know we were doing the game here for a reason.
We've seen some milestones over our broadcast career.
Well, Rod, 998 more to go and you could say you did your 1,000th drill softball game.
That's all.
It's not that far from now, Rocky.
Well, every seven years we are, right?
Yeah.
Actually, this is kind of neat to do, too.
So it is.
So Ella Lino is a pinch hitter.
We have one old.
She was in for a race on
first.
She is batting for Leila Keast.
Which by the Giorgio is
low.
One-to-one count with one out here in the top of the seventh Georgia wines and delivers fall outside.
Take a good look at those.
We've got Corinne, Jeremiah, Johnson, Cole on deck.
Bear Hunter.
Big swing there for...
Two balls, two
strikes.
That's what he said too, right?
He heard you.
The umpire, he repeated what you said.
A little tip for the backstop, just missing strikeout 1001.
Oh,
1000 strikeouts in the career.
He's
heard you wind in the rivers and here is...
Okay, Rod, she no longer has a thousand.
Oh, she has a thousand and one.
She's in cold now, Batting.
Two outs here in the top of the seventh.
Cold Batting, Emily Del Ferrell.
Emily Del Ferrell says she's going to still get the bat.
She knows that's going to happen.
One strike on Cole, and she'll take a look at that one.
Evens counting at one ball, one strike.
Two outs here in the top of the seventh.
Really up eight to nothing.
Pitch outside.
Makes
it two and one.
I think that was protecting herself more than anything, she was right at her niche, put the bat down on her.
She was smiling about that one.
It wasn't really a swing and it wasn't really a bump,
it was
like something in the...
Protecting her right leg.
Oh, that's twice that's happened to her.
That'll do it.
I don't score tonight.
This afternoon, I should say, early eight and go give it nothing.
We'll take a 30 second break and we'll come back and do a little recap.
I don't know if Randy will come over and talk to us before the game.
He might want to come over and say a few words.
We'll see.
Eight nothing here.
Final score, back in 30 seconds.

All right back here in early final score this afternoon early eight and go give it nothing just a fantastic pitching performance by Olivia DeGiorgio
Yes, it
was so solid hitting early just came out the gates and lit it up in the first two innings jumped out to a Four nothing three two nothing leading the first
yeah for nothing leading
the four nothing leading the first and then
seven nothing after two
yeah, and then
Hitting kind of bogged down a little bit, but give Hurley credit.
They really hit the ball well this afternoon.
Not sure if Coach King will come over.
He might come over.
That moves Hurley's record now to 18, no, 15 and 5.
It makes them 6-1 in their last seven games.
The only loss was to
Northwood, Solemn Springs last Friday night, but last couple games they beat Mellon twice.
They beat Athens.
They went over to the Gilman Slam Fest, beat Athens and Gilman on the Saturday afternoon.
Beat Shawarma game last Monday.
Lost to Northwood, like I just said, and now, beating Gogovic, which probably one of the top teams in the Michigan side.
And I think they're going to do a team picture.
So I don't know if they're going to, if Coach King is going to want to come over here and talk.
Go get it.
Record falls to 17 and 10.
And as I said, I think they have a couple more games.
I don't have the schedule in front of me at this moment.
I knew they, I know they play Ironwood in the district tournament.
And as Coach Beth Steiger told us in the pregame, that game will be in Ramsey.
I believe that's next Tuesday.
and then the finals will be up in the Copper Country and I'm pretty sure it's going to be the winner of Hancock and like Linda, I think, should be the team that they meet up there.
For Hurley, they got a three seed in the tournament and they will have a home game next week and then I just heard Coach King say they have a game third.
I'm not sure who that is.
with, but, um, trying to get his attention.
Not sure if Coach King is going to look this way or not.
Hang on just a second.
Randy!
Want to see anything?
Yeah.
Okay, Coach King is going to make his way over here.
He's just having a talk with some of his girls.
Let's take a 30-second break and then we'll talk to Coach King.
He's just meeting.
Oh, they're going to do a picture with the Liberty to Georgia on the 1,000-hour cycle.
Let's take a 30-second break.
We'll be right back.
What does it mean to be locally owned and operated?
For Cinex, it means everything.
It means that we know if you take your coffee to go, or if you like to stay a while.
It means we've helped Little Leagues get jerseys and local festivals get funding.
It means we know what our communities need.
So you'll always leave Cinex with a full tank, full of snacks, or full of smiles, or all of the above.
And that means the world to us.
Cinex, powered locally.
Alright, talking now with Coach Randy King of the Victoria's Hurley North Stars and wow those first two innings.
I
saw a
hitting plate, I didn't see it last
Friday.
No, not at all.
We came loaded for Bear today and typically hitting is our identity.
The last couple of years we've always put the bat on the ball.
There's been a few games here and there that it just doesn't happen, but that happens in softball.
But no, we came ready to play and I'm really happy how it ended up.
You put the belt into them right away, and that means a lot when you do that.
And these weren't just little
dribblers
in the infield.
Yeah, they were hard shots, yeah.
They were
hard shots to the outfield,
and
they're a very good ball
game.
Yeah, yeah, and then to shut out a team like we have a very good team.
They're a well coached, they've got good players.
There's a lot of seniors that are very good players, so we wish them luck as they move forward.
But yeah, yeah, we played very well, very happy.
We just got to make sure we stay hungry and humble and keep working hard.
Did I hear you say you have a game Thursday?
Yes, we play Mellon.
Oh, you have Mellon again?
Yeah, it's a non-conference.
We schedule that just to get a good game in before playoffs on Tuesday.
OK, and you'll find out Wednesday who you play.
We play Shawamigan on Tuesday.
Oh, OK.
Yeah, we had that seating meeting yesterday.
We were on a three-seat.
OK, so you have Shawamigan here next Tuesday.
Yep.
OK,
and that starts the tournament.
That's correct.
OK.
Um, yeah, just a quick word with you.
Just talk about this game a little bit, but
you gotta be really happy.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
As soon as we started hitting the bats, you know, we can keep this going.
Maybe we can get out here a little early.
We almost, you know, I had a chance here.
I think it was a six with the runner on second and third.
I thought maybe we could pop them in, but, uh, I'll see later.
I'll feel they're made on, made a nice catch on another good hit that we had.
And, uh, yeah.
Hey, wins a win.
And it doesn't matter if it's by one or by eight or by whatever, as long as you win.
How about Olivia?
500 strikeouts.
Oh, that one was 500.
500.
500 strikeouts.
Oh, okay.
I heard you yelling.
I
couldn't hear it and people next to me said, I think you said 500 strikeouts.
No.
No, they thought you said a thousand.
No, not a thousand, good lord.
You'd have to be here eight years.
Well, you could do it.
Yeah, you know, 500 strikeouts and people don't realize that her sophomore year, she missed half the season when she tore her ACL.
Okay.
So she did 500 strikeouts in three and a half seasons and that's why when I said how many
strikeout she had.
I wanted people to understand it's not a normal four-year or four-season 500 strikeout.
She did it in three and a half and she's still on and we still got games to play so you know that didn't happen.
She probably would have been her own you know by the time the season ends.
She could be her own post the upper 500 to 600.
Who would be your
backup pitcher
now?
Piper Ramose our second baseman.
Yeah, she has a nice
job.
Yeah, but yeah, Olivia has been fantastic.
She works hard in the offseason.
She's a competitor.
um tight games you can see the look in her eye that she's dialed in and uh yeah i'm really really proud of her really happy for her she deserved that she likes to work quickly doesn't she she does yeah she doesn't like to mess around she gets the job done and you know livi she's either you're either going to put the ball in play or she's going to strike you oh she ain't going to walk you so
yeah so uh
yeah she does a great job
all right
Nice job, Randy.
Thank
you.
Good luck.
You
know, I got to go to DC, so I probably won't be here on Tuesday
for your playoff game.
But all right, no problem.
I'll be
tuned in.
Okay.
I'll keep you posted.
All right.
I appreciate
it.
Which Randy King of the Hurley Nars stars is the eco-gibbock tonight?
This afternoon, eight to nothing.
Randy, what do you got for stats?
Just a few highlights.
First of all, for Gobi, he only had three hits on the night.
So Olivia DiGiorgio just did fantastic.
The big, well, I can tell you, Kira Peters.
here frisbee had one one hit and um and olivia peterson had the other two hits she was two for three and kira was one for three it was the only hit for the whole night fourteen strikeouts for de georgio tonight just phenomenal on the other side hitting for there's a lot of a lot of folks had hits but um the number one hitting and you had pointed out before is bella de rosso four for four that's that's a terrific night when you go four for four and girl softball uh olivia de georgio was two for three and five are almost was two for four as well so uh
Just a good night for Hurley.
They looked really good.
Shut down this hard-hitting Miners team, which is, to me, amazing in itself.
Oh, well, they did.
Yeah, I give Hurley a lot of credit, keeping Gugivik off the bases for the most part, and holding them scoreless.
Like I said, we said in the pregame, I've seen Gugivik play quite a few games, and they're a very good ball club.
And so is Hurley.
So I'm taking nothing away from either team.
Um,
well, I would say they ran into a buzz on a picture right there.
Olivia DeGiorgio had a great night tonight.
Yes, she did.
Yes, she did.
And congratulations on her pitching accomplishments.
And I apologize.
I people long spent me said they said 1000 because I couldn't
hear what he said.
He said 1000 too.
I really did.
I said 1000.
So, um,
so
500 is good too.
Yep.
We probably could have done the math and so now there's no way she
can actually
a
good buddy of mine right now.
His, his granddaughter just got her 1000 strikeout.
Pitching for the Charlotte.
I don't know what they are bobcats or something like that down in lower, Michigan.
She's not a lancy.
Hmm, but they you know, they play what 30 I think you play 30 games I think you can play up to 30.
Yeah, and she's been pitching and striking well since so she's had This year she had 400 stray coats.
So that's just amazing.
It's out.
She's I think I don't think that's a state record But I think that's a conference record or something like that for a straight goes.
We're just amazing though All right, well that will do it.
Well, this was kind of
It's fun.
You bet it was.
It really wasn't.
We're done.
Now you've got to find out where you parked your truck.
That's out of fall ball
territory.
I'm way back
there.
Back by your truck.
We're going to go get it here and bring it this way.
I'll wait for you when you come here and I'll help you put stuff away and then we'll be good to go.
We're going to try to get some more games on the radio, whether it's Wisconsin softball, Wisconsin baseball, Michigan baseball, Michigan softball.
We'll see.
A lot of unknowns in the next 10 days because I'm not going to be around here.
So we'll see when I come back next week where the where the tournaments are who's winning who's advancing and I'll work up a schedule and most
importantly though right I want to say this before we got there just we're proud of you for being part of Marty's part of Marty's or representing our whole area that's just a terrific thing the whole area is just very excitable Marty's being in Washington DC for the Memorial Day Parade and just that's a great thing to do Rod and
That's a great thing.
I told people, we talk about, I can't fathom the magnitude of where we're going.
It's to be down on Constitution Avenue on Memorial Day, and then we're going to that Memorial Day concert, Memorial Eve concert.
I believe it's on the lawn of the Capitol or the lawn of the White House.
I think it's on public TV.
It's televised every year.
We're not
playing there.
We're just going to
get
invited to Trump's next inaugural address or next inaugural parade too.
So they'll be there playing for him.
He'll go, well, he got four or five more inaugurations coming up.
He'll
only get two.
I was a little joke going on TV today.
It was funny.
It was actually a funny one.
It wasn't a political one.
Yeah, it's going to be something.
yeah uh being in washington for this so good luck to you yeah thank you all right that will do it final score this afternoon early eight go give it nothing for luke back at the board thank you for coming in and running the board for us for randy charles always a pleasure working with you and uh we'll we'll figure out something down the road if nothing else we got the border bash coming up on june 4th all right the uh basketball game i'll give it to me in the college so
We'll have announcements on the radio station periodically as to our next broadcast.
That will do it.
Hope you enjoyed the broadcast.
We're out here in the element, so we had wind.
I know I could hear it, and it's probably going through your radio too, so.
But it was a nice setup here, and I really appreciate everything that Jackie Fanzoy did for us, and that will do it.
Have a great night, everybody.
Good night.
