It's a busy day for Riverdale Sports.

The Chieftain baseball team is at Iowa Grant.

The Riverdale softball team is home against Kickapoo.

And track and field action is happening today at Darlington.

Also going on in the area today, Weston baseball is taking onto Soto.

They are at stoddard tonight and also in a baseball action for Ithaca JV play and they're at Dodgeville and that gets underway in just a little while today.

We're about a week away from conference tournament track.

A couple of weeks away from the beginning of the WIA postseason for softball and later on baseball, it's coming right down there for area spring sports.

Jamie, as you get into this week, this is an important night against Dodgeville tonight,

isn't it?

Yeah, really this whole week is.

We spoke to the girls earlier last week and we weren't looking ahead, but this is a big week.

We got Dodgeville tonight and then prayer to Sheen on Thursday and Plaville Friday.

So it's kind of the.

top teams right there, and we're all stacked in pretty tight for that top spot in the conference right now.

And you're looking at the revenge factor there.

You lost it actually.

You'd like to play better against them this time,

I'm sure.

Yeah.

We didn't come out with our best game when we were down there last time.

Maybe a little overconfidence.

Talked to the girls about it late that week.

We lost to Platteville too.

Kai was having a little bit of an off week, which isn't normal, and it can happen.

But I think the girls are motivated to get that win back and I think they're going to see a different team.

We got a little more focus now.

I think, you know, like we talked earlier in the year, sometimes getting that first or loss or two is good for you because it wakes you up and makes you realize that you don't just walk into a ballpark and win.

It takes work.

So.

You got one against River Valley last week.

It looked like the bats were going pretty well that

night.

Bats did good that night.

Yep.

Um, you know, that was a good win.

That's always been a hard spot to go down and, and, and win.

But, uh, and then we get to prairie the next, uh, game and, and we took care of business down there.

That was a tough game.

Um, fun, fun game to be a part of.

Um, Kyrie pitched well and so did Claire and, uh, just came, it came down to a few, few hits here at the end and Reagan shop had a great hit that scored a couple of runs was huge for us.

Um, the bottom line up needs to get a little more consistent.

You know, each girl's doing a decent job, but it's just, it's, it's kind of scattered and we can put some more back to back hits in or even a couple of months down.

Um, we're struggling with that right now.

So we focused on that a lot last night.

Um, you know, we just need to get the ball and play a little more than that, than that bottom of her lineup.

What is the conference standing?

So what do they look like right now?

Because they're kind of hard to follow.

Where are the Hornets right now?

Right now we are in sole place at first because

prayer to Sheen lost River Valley last night.

So I believe they got three losses.

Platteville has three losses.

Dodgel has three losses.

They're all tied for second.

We have two loss and we're sitting in first.

Um, obviously a lot of that can change here this week.

Uh, tonight's going to be a big game.

We have three big games.

If we kind of control our own destiny, um,

You know, I think if we can get two out of these next three games, we have a pretty good chance of at least for sure wrapping up co-conference champions.

If we can get all three, it should put us right where we were kind of, it was our goal.

You know, you don't know every year, the year where you're going to be.

Last year was a surprise this year.

We, we set a goal to try to make a run at this and when we're there.

So we just got to, you know, keep our heads moving forward one, one bad at a time and one game at a time and see where we end up at it.

How long has it been since a Hornets softball team has won a conference?

30 years this year.

So it'd be kind of cool.

Yeah, it would be.

Yep.

So, but you got to get it done.

As you mentioned, you control your own destiny and I would have thought it's competitive that two or three losses could win the conference.

Yeah, I kind of thought that I think when we spoke earlier in the year, I thought maybe a two or three loss team could potentially win.

There's just no one's ran away with it.

You know, at this point last year, Dodgeville had it pretty well tied up.

So you're kind of shifting focus off of winning conference to let's just get better for the tournament.

And that was our goal last year.

And, uh, you know, we did okay this year.

It's different.

And as a new coach for me, I'm trying to shift back and forth.

and you know we got to focus on getting this conference win now but we're also thinking you know hey next week we got Wisconsin Dells our CD meetings on Sunday so we got a

try to put everything together and get some wins here and then go into that meeting and try to see what we can do with that part of the season, too.

Well, that's very close to getting down there.

It seems like we just started it.

It's a sprint,

isn't it?

It is.

And we lost a lot of games early with rain, and that's why we ended up with three this week.

But the kids have been improving.

They're keeping focus.

As you get late in the season, you can get seniors that start

and their mind might drift a little bit.

We haven't had any of that.

Actually, our seniors have come on very strongly.

Abigail Williams has been killing the ball.

Um, she's been huge for us in the lineup doing a great job.

And, uh, you know, have any McCorkle stepped in and did some great things.

Tatum Razak, um, had a home run this week and it was so proud of her.

She worked so hard and she was just, she was very happy.

So it's good to see.

What makes this dodgeville team tough tonight, Jamie?

They're coached well.

Um, Brian's doing a great job down there.

Um, they hit.

fairly well.

I mean, just consistently from top to bottom, you know, there's not really a weak spot in there, which you don't see that very often.

They're just, you know, they'd feel the ball real well.

They're just not a lot of errors, at least from what we've seen when we were down there.

They just looked like, they looked like the most complete team we've seen this year.

Other than maybe Platteville in the last half of our game on both those losses, Platteville looks tough.

So they're going to both be challenging games and then obviously Prairie, you know, they're, they're right there too.

So

You know, we just got to keep one foot and step ahead of the other and see what we can do here this week.
