Hey Huskies

fans,

this is coach Josh Bittner from Michigan Tech Men's Basketball.

Now let's go court side from the NCAA Tournament.

Here's your announcer, Josh Gilechello.

And then there were fewer.

On the shores of the Allegheny, welcome to the NCAA Division II Men's Elite Eight.

The Michigan Tech Huskies take on Gannon today in Men's Basketball.

My name is Josh Yolotello.

Thank you for joining us here on the Kirkish Furniture Countdown to tip off.

Welcome to our additional sponsors joining us here for this historic broadcast, the first time the Huskies have ever made it to the Elite Eight.

in school history and they do it with a school record time 29 wins looking for win number 30 here today and keep on dancing.

We are live from Duquesne University, the UPMC Cooper Field House in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the site of the Elite Eight for men's and women's basketball.

Four games took place yesterday on the women's side of the bracket, Grand Valley State Advanced, Minnesota Duluth.

Was dispatched in their contest so some of the schools that you know With their results, but there are eight fresh teams ready to roll here At the men's side of the elite a tournament and the Huskies have a big challenge ahead of them.

It is the number six ranked Ganon and the number 16 ranked Huskies The Huskies are the number six seed in the elite eight

Ganon is number three.

They are 31 and three overall.

They were 19 and one in the PSAP conference undefeated at 19 and 0 at home.

One and one away from their home gym.

And then one and two on neutral site games.

So perhaps the Huskies who've got 10 games of neutral site experience going eight and two in those games this season may have the slight advantage in that aspect.

However, this

facility is only about 90 minutes away from Erie, Pennsylvania, where Gannon calls home.

So there may be an influence in Gannon fans here.

There are quite a few Husky fans in attendance here for today's game, both in the traditional fans that have made their way from across the country with friends and family and some new fans the Huskies have made here with

Some local school children that the Huskies got to visit yesterday as part of their Public service event that they took part in They've got a lot of go Husky signs printed out here courtesy of the Abel family who has made their way here and of course there's the big terminator Sign courtesy of Nate Abel's mother.

So it's it's gonna be an interesting

event in a lot of ways, but certainly playing in this Division 1 environment with brighter lights, some video boards out there, and a floor that's perhaps unknown to the teams in many aspects, though one of those aspects perhaps also in favor of Michigan Tech.

And that is also courtesy of one of our sponsors, Horner Flooring, who's a proud supporter of local athletes.

They've produced the NCAA floors for many years.

They've also got all-star floors for 41 consecutive years.

Michigan State, the Pistons, FIBA all over the world in Michigan Tech.

Horner has not lost sight of its roots in Dollar Bay, Michigan.

Horner Flooring celebrating 135 years as a Michigan business, wishing Michigan Tech the best of luck and of course sponsors of final four floors all over America.

Well, we've got a lot to come in our extended Kirkish furniture countdown to tip off here today.

We'll hear from the head coach Easton Bazzoli of Gannon.

We'll also hear from head coach Josh Bittner in both the NCAA media availability and our one-on-one conversation that I had with him just a little bit earlier this morning in preparation for this event here.

Starting lineups opening tip off all about 21 minutes or so away from UMPC Fieldhouse.

in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the men's elite eight coming up here on the home of the Huskies, MIX 93 WKMJ.

Welcome back inside UMPC Cooper Field House Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the site of the men's division to NC double a elite eight Michigan Tech Huskies Ganon Golden Knights coming up

in just a little bit.

Husky fans out there, you may be familiar with Gannon for multiple reasons.

Most common one, of course, being that Gannon was a member of the GLIAC for the better part of 10 to 12 seasons, 1996 to 2007.

And they since moved to a conference that a little more geographically friendly for them and naturally with the travel that the Huskies have had to experience here.

It makes perfect sense that they would want to do that.

They've played 18 times in the history between these two teams.

Huskies with two-thirds of the wins in those.

The Huskies winning the last meeting back in 2018 at a tournament held or hosted by Gannon, Owen White, Brian Heath, the leaders for the Huskies in that game back in 2018.

In 2004, these teams met in Romeoville, Illinois in the NCAA tournament, where Michigan Tech also victorious.

So just a little bit of history, which I guess is pretty irrelevant considering that no player, of course, was on either of these teams at the time that they faced off with each other, though Josh Bittner certainly has a little bit more history with Gannon, having played them during his time as a Husky player and was on the staff.

during that Gary Miller classic back in 2018.

But it's still a different environment for these teams as the Elite 8 provides some different challenges both with travel, the hotel accommodations, all the different teams staying in the same places and being in unfamiliar territory.

And that was kind of some of the thoughts that each coach had to express during their

pre-gamer, pre-tournament interviews with the NCAA.

We'll start with Easton Bazoli of Gannon.

And he provided the opening statement for the Gannon side of things during his NCAA media availability.

Yeah, same.

We've got a group that's really fired up to be here.

It's cool being relatively close and being able to come down, so to be able to have.

a little bit more local and to get some fans maybe should be good for us.

You know, I think being a local guy myself, it feels cool to be able to have family around and things like that.

So, same thing he said, you know, the NCAA has done an awesome job by making this feel exactly how it should feel for what each of these teams has accomplished so far.

And, you know, I think this venue is a special place to have it too.

There's Easton Bazzoli the head coach of the Gannon Golden Knights talking a little bit about his team's journey and he Expanded upon his experience having been to the elite eight previously in a coaching role

Yeah, the experience of that one helps for sure being able to even just have an idea of what the schedule is gonna look like an idea on

how to even just set up meals and figure out the routine of things when it's different.

Hopefully we can play a little bit better than we did a couple years ago.

But I think that there's a comfort level that myself and then Mike Chalice as well, being at a bunch of these can pull from and hopefully relay that comfort to our guys of just a confidence of.

having an idea of what this thing looks like.

Again, Easton Pazzoli talking about previous Elite 8 experience here as a coach.

Now he has not been here as a head coach, but anything you can glean from this time certainly is helpful.

Now both of these teams certainly have had a good season.

Golden Knights again are 31 and 3 overall 19 and 1 in conference play and for coach Bazzoli He was posed a question the moment that he thought his team couldn't make it to this situation What when did that occur Lee Dale?

Yeah in a sense in a sense

Pretty early on we felt like we had a chance to be to be really good just based off of The character that we have in the locker room and the competitiveness that they brought every day in the fall And there was you you begin to compete against other teams You know, we had a we had an early bump in the road and I thought Somewhere what coach said, you know, like probably for all of us we had we had player leadership that that really

allowed a great response and I thought just our guys have responded well to adversity all year and you know I think adversity is sometimes subjective because you know obviously there's a lot of a lot of people that would love to have won as many games as the people that are that are sitting up here right now and you know I think that that's that's not because of a lack of adversity I think everybody here has faced it.

And then I'd say, you know, I thought there was, you know, we're all trying to peak at the right time.

And I'm sure we're all probably playing, feel like we're playing our best basketball right now to be able to get here.

And I just thought that there was a, that there was a stretch in mid December to early January, where we knew we weren't playing our best, but our guys were figuring out ways to win just, just out of competitive will.

And, you know, I thought that.

That was a sign where knowing the character of our group, knowing the integrity that they played with and showed up with every day.

And to be able to just figure out ways to win, you sit there and you just have a level of confidence and belief of at some point, we're going to continue to get better and we're going to correct some of these weaknesses.

I'm not sure we could throw the ball in the ocean for the first two months of the season, but we're able to figure out ways to win.

It's just a testament to our guys for figuring that out and giving that confidence to each other and us as a staff.

Probably early January, we're sitting there going, man, we're really good and we're even close to where as good as we can be and felt like that was the moment where we're gonna get there.

There again, Easton Bazzoli of Gannon talking about his team's journey to get to the Elite Eight.

Now the Michigan Tech Huskies certainly Husky fans out there are aware of what the expectations were coming into this season, following what happened last season, going to the tournament and bringing back the players that they did.

And head coach Josh Bittner had his response when he knew this team or when he thought this team could make it to the NCAA tournament and make some noise all the way to the elite eight.

I guess.

After last season when when Marcus decided to come back and better being an all-american Returning to D2 was what that sounds nice.

We knew we knew the the expectations would be pretty high and After the final four we actually got invited down to the the small college classic down in Florida and our administration worked with us and found a way to get us down there Suzanne did a great job doing that and When we went down there and we played

Dallas Baptist and the Nori and two really good teams have been in the elite eight last year and You know what?

We found a way to win both games in overtime and I think that just kind of gave our guy guys the confidence to know that we could play with anybody in the country when when you you find a way to win those two games Our non-conference was was really tough We went on the road and played a Duluth team and a St.

Cloud team that that obviously coach is familiar with from their regional that were both in the NCAA tournament

To come out of there with those wins, our guys just felt like we could play with anybody.

And we see everything and anything in our conference.

And I think that prepared us for the NCAA regional.

There was in a situation that we hadn't been through.

I mean, we took kind of everybody's best shot with the target in our league.

But I think that first weekend kind of just gave us the confidence to play with anybody.

head coach Josh Bittner's NCAA media availability talking about when he thought this team could make the noise that they have so far.

More from head coach Josh Bittner in relation to his team and this game coming up in just a few minutes on our Kirkers furniture countdown to tip off.

Go Huskies!

LA basketball coverage does continue here.

The Kyrgyz furniture countdown to tip-off on the next 93.

My name is Josh Yolotello, live from the UTMC Cooper Field House on the campus of Duquesne University.

Well, the Huskies and the Golden Knights have a couple of common opponents this season.

Early, though, those were Lake Superior, State Togon, Gannon,

Back in November, and in that game, it was actually the Lakers getting the win, 99-87.

Suleiman with 19, Pace Prosser for Gannon with 25.

Then it was the Lake Erie Storm, which the Huskies saw not all that long ago.

And it was 105-75 in favor of Gannon.

And the final team that they faced off with each other, Saginaw Valley State in December.

95-67, Gannon gets the victory in that game.

So two-and-one against common opponents at the Huskies have faced as well this season.

Quarter-finals still to come up today at 2.30.

Number two seed Cal State East Bay will take on number seven seed Oklahoma Baptist.

And then in the second session tonight, top seeded Nova South Eastern will take on Black Hills State at six o'clock.

While at 830, number four Damon and number five Lander.

Semifinals will be on Friday, six o'clock and 830.

All those games available to watch on ESPN.

Plus, head coach Josh Bittner joins us for his pre-game interview coming up next on the Kyrgyz Furniture Countdown and Tip-Offs on MIX 93.

Welcome back here with head coach Josh Bittner.

It's the elite eight here in Pittsburgh.

First time the Huskies have ever had this experience with men's basketball.

Just talk about what it's been like here this last week or so since the Huskies got that bid and the travel and the combinations and everything that goes

along with this event.

I mean it's been it's been an awesome experience.

The NCAA does a great job of this.

You feel like you're part of the big time.

We get the charter out here.

just the facilities and the people in the banquet were at the Steeler Stadium.

It's been a really cool experience and we're trying to do it in two ways.

One, I want to make sure our guys enjoy the experience, but two, make sure that they're just not here to enjoy the experience and not satisfied to be here and hopefully that we can come out and play well today.

And also the week's just been phenomenal from all the alumni and people that really helped build us to get to this spot.

coach Luke started laying his foundation 30 years ago all the guys that have come before us so many of them reached out they're all a part of this and that part makes it feel even more special.

So as

we look back towards this season I mean we're formed five months deep into this whole process here as you get

practice preparation this last week, with all the travel and with everything going on here.

How have you been able to manage the time and the bodies and the health and the rest and everything?

It's been good.

We wanted the rest.

We took a long trip back from Cannes.

We took the next day off.

We got into it two days, pretty good, but obviously the guys are excited.

You're playing this time of year.

We're not going long, but we tried to go hard.

The practices on the road have been, they've been fun.

I mean, we've played in two other gyms besides the one

we were

here, and you know what I mean?

Sometimes when you're there, it adds some excitement to practice and keeps it from getting stale at this point in the year, but the guys were locked in and I thought our execution's been really good.

responsibilities

that you've had during this experience here.

It's involved connecting with some other coaches that you wouldn't otherwise get a chance to interact with.

How have those been and have you tried to pick each other's brains a little bit as best you can knowing that you know you might be

competitors coming up?

No, for sure.

There's eight men's and eight women's coaches here and obviously anybody that's at this level has had phenomenal seasons and

There's coaches here that have been here multiple times and won national championships.

Anything you can learn, that's part of coaching, part of sports.

You never know all the answers.

So the more you can learn and the more you can network and find from other people, the better it is.

It's just cool to kind of see how other elite programs work.

Well, Gannon's the opponent.

We'll talk about them next year on

the pregame show on MIX 93.

And welcome back to the pre-game show here with head coach Josh Buettner.

We continue here on our pre-game interview.

And as we look ahead towards the Gannon squad, before we dive into any of the individuals on there, this is a team that can score points.

They score over 95 points per contest.

What is it about their offensive system that allows them to score at such a high volume?

I mean, they're part

of the Crutchfield tree, which is the Nova tree.

It's interesting because the things in that system that make them such a high scoring team are they turn you over and get easy baskets that way and they crash five guys and get easy points on offensive rebounding.

They average forcing 23 turnovers a game and average 17 offensive rebounds a game and I think those might be the highest in the country in both of those statistics.

It's easier said than done, but probably the two keys to all of our games in the entire season are take care of the ball and rebound.

And obviously what makes them successful is turning you over and rebounding.

So it's a little bit of a battle of systems in that way.

So if we can do the things that got us here, which are the things that they try to take away.

I guess that's what makes games good at this level.

I mean, our strengths versus their strengths, and we'll see what happens.

We've seen a lot of full-court pressure and presses here in the last couple of weeks.

How does theirs compare to what we've seen recently?

I mean, Grand Valley was twice in there.

Grand Valley's a straight man-to-man pick-up, so it's a little different in terms of teams that kind of run that system, I think.

They're a little bit more under control than Mike Erie was.

Not quite the cast.

And I think they're a little more aggressive than Walsh was.

Their personnel is, I think, similar to Walsh is more so than Mike Erie.

But I would say the level of aggressiveness in that press is probably a little bit closer to Mike Erie than Walsh.

Going all the way back to the end of the year, I mean, I think that's what we keep telling the guys.

And we handled that Dallas Baptist pressure the first game of the year.

Now that was some crazy pressure.

So I mean, we went down there, Suzanne helped us out and got us into that tournament to prepare us for the postseason like this.

And it's giving us an experience that we know we can handle if we're mentally there.

and execute.

From an individual

perspective, Pace is their leading scorer.

He's a phenomenal player.

He's probably the closest thing to their Marcus that they've got here.

What is it about his game that he does well that you'll have to control?

We're

looking at, we're going to try to take away threes.

I know he can put it down.

He can get fouled.

He's good at getting the line.

He's got a nice right to left cross over going that way.

He's a good all-around scorer, but he really likes getting open threes.

So one of our keys is let's just not give him those above the break threes.

And we'll see he's an all-American.

He's a good player.

We're not going to shut him down.

But I think NATO will start on him and hopefully give him a good look.

And we'll mix up some game in Jesse to throw some length at him and give him some different looks.

That said, they obviously score

95 points and have a lot of depth.

They have a lot of guys who can score.

So what do you try to do to disrupt the

rest of the group?

I just want to get in the half, or I want to not give them live ball turnovers.

I want to make them score against our defense.

Obviously, they're third in the country and points per game.

I think when you take into the rating and look deeper at your defense, we're one of the top defenses in the country.

And I just want to give our defense a chance.

If we make them have to score in the half court, I want to see what that looks like.

When you get to this level, you want to

Test yourself against the best and I think our defense is up there with anybody's and I want to see how it matches up against one of the best offenses.

There you have head coach Josh Bittner free game conversation here on the Kirkish furniture countdown to tip-off.

Minute 13 gone off the clock, only points belonging to Gannon.

Now back to Abel.

Abel on the dribble, pulls up, shot is short, rebound goes out of bounds and it will be Gannon basketball.

Nice crowd here.

Lower Bowl area all filled at the UMPC Cooper Field House in Pittsburgh.

Certainly Gannon has the geographical advantage, but both teams with some student sections.

Broadcasting right here from court side as Prosser with Nate Abel in his hip pocket.

Outside for Idaru, three-point shot is good.

Precious Idaru has started 19 of his teams picking out 20 of his teams games.

He's got a steal other way.

Abel hustling it across here going for Tamashik.

Marcus step back for three.

That one is no good.

Tipped and out to Terian who's going to launch a distant shot.

That's no good.

Rebound stays loose.

and is recovered by Gannon.

Golden Knights, Prosser down the floor into the lane, little hand off to Desmond, loses the ball inside, back outside for Idaru.

He's going to work against Lord Guard here, Dawson picking him up defensively, mid-range jump shot is good.

Idaru averages about 11 points per game, does take a fair amount of threes in addition to those...

Two-point shots.

He's got the 1-3 already made here today.

Gannon out to an early 9-0 lead.

Huskies, though, not fazed.

As Dimashin gets bumped, loses the ball, it goes out of bounds.

Last touched underneath by Gannon, who's going to sub four in.

It was Victor Desmond diving for the loose basketball.

He'll be one of the players checking out.

Gannon's going to only keep...

Mackenzie Morgan on the floor.

The rest of them are going to be substitutions including Lane Sarver, number 12, 6-6 senior from New Madison, Ohio.

Number 31.

See me, 33 is Mason Kemp, a 6-7 sophomore.

Ruchani, Kansas.

Number five, Jaden Callaway, a 6-2 freshman from Columbus, Ohio.

Inside, Gabe Smith, bothered, gets it to Jesse Napkezik, who's come in for the Huskies.

Jesse gets the follow-up put back to score.

Huskies break the seal and they are on the board trailing 9-2.

Final substitution is Lucas Sacasi, a 6-6 sophomore from Washington, D.C.

for Gannon.

Huskies only made the napgezik substitution.

Jesse, the one-player in came in for Josh Tarion.

Napgezik a 6-4 freshman from Wausau, Wisconsin.

baseline move here from Mackenzie Morgan guarded by Tamashik, Marcus staying in on him misses the shot rebound goes to Marcus and Abel right back up down the sidelines for Tamashik now Nef Gezik steps in for three no good rebound loose and handled by Gannon Sakasi Sakasi wants to go end to end and does not travel blocked shot and a foul is going to be called

Mason Kemp going in against Dawson Nordgaard and draws the first foul of the game against Michigan Tech and it goes on the big man Nordgaard.

Huskies will get ready for a substitution.

We'll see Grant Warren ready to check in for the Huskies here in just a few moments as Mason Kemp will go to the free throw line.

Kemp has played in 30 games this season.

Average is about 10 and a half

minutes.

Has taken a fair amount of free throw attempts though.

48 coming into today's game is a good free throw shooter at 83 percent.

As a whole Gannon shoots 75 percent from the stripe.

Huskies also bring in Ty Fernholz for Marcus Tamashek.

Along with Warren for Nordgaard.

And the free throw good.

So Gannon takes the advantage here with an 11 to 2 lead.

About 4 minutes in, just shy of 4, Fernholz.

We'll get it in for Smith.

Little handoff to Jesse.

Napgezik being double teamed in the backcourt.

Ahead for Abel and for Smith.

Looking down low, Grant Warren gets blocked.

And a hell of a ball again, going to be called.

And we've got a timeout on the floor.

With 15-52 to go in our first half, it is Ganon out to the early advantage, 11-2 over Michigan Tech.

It is Ganon 11-2 the leaders Huskies one of nine from the floor all of six from outside Only basket from the floor so far made by Jesse Nepkezik was a putback on an offensive rebound for Ganon They've got two shots from Edaru and two shots from Morgan and then one Trip to the free throw line for Mason Kemp to give them their nine-point advantage

in the game.

For again and they lost three games all year.

One of those I mentioned was to Lake Superior State back in game four of the season.

99 to 87.

Then their other two losses came at California, Pennsylvania and at home against that same California PA team later on in the year.

They did end up getting some revenge.

in the postseason against them with an 89-73 win back on the 15th.

Those are the only three losses that Gannon has suffered this season.

Of course, for Michigan Tech, three of their losses came against Grand Valley State before getting the semifinal victory over them in the last round.

Northern Michigan, Davenport and Missouri St.

Louis each hanging an L on Michigan Tech earlier in the campaign.

Huskies won't make any new substitutions here so nap Gezek Fernholz Warren Smith and Abel for your Huskies.

Gannon will get her over to Mason Kemp Kemp the handoff into the lane driving towards the basket Sikasi it's no good rebound Gabe Smith and the full court press is on for Gannon three players trying to trap in the back court Abel and a jump basketball

and a 10 second violation.

It's going to be before the jump ball as the Huskies being frustrated in the back court.

So 10 second violation against the Huskies results in a turnover.

It's going to be the second turnover now on Michigan Tech.

Gannon forces a lot of turnovers for their opponents to the tune of 23 per game.

Down into the corner.

Knappgesek picking up defensively going towards the Kassi and it's stolen away.

Gabe Smith those active hands.

Fernholz picks it up.

Passes ahead for Abel.

No break half court this time for Gabe.

Up top Fernholz.

Fernholz harass near half court by MacKenzie Morgan.

This is Fernholz down low.

Knappgesek.

Cross court for Warren.

Warren backing in, turning back to Jesse.

Left side corner for three, no good.

Warren gets the rebound, looking to pass it outside.

It's deflected and stolen by Gannon.

Sakasi driving inside.

Pass out for Mackenzie Morgan.

Three point shot rattles in.

Tapped out of bounds.

Last touched by Lucas Morgan.

And both juniors from Sydney, Australia took different routes to get here to Ganon, but ultimately ended up in the same place.

Both Sydney, Australia, Mackenzie going to West Texas, Ann M. Lucas going to St.

Cloud before reuniting here in Ganon colors.

Tamashik has checked back in for the Huskies, has replaced Jesse Napgezek.

Bodying up there with Morgan right back to Tamashik.

Marcus for Fernholz looking down low.

This is Warren.

Double team came in Grant battling through it.

He fades away for the jump shot.

That's no good.

The rebound Gabe Smith and a foul is going to be called underneath trying to fight through to the basket.

And Gannon's defense right now seems to be everywhere all the time against Michigan Tech.

No matter where they go, it seems they have two defenders in the area.

This time the foul goes against Lucas Morgan.

It's gonna be the first on Gannon and subsequently first on Lucas Morgan.

Huskies have just two points here to get things rolling against the Gannon squad.

That defensively...

Gives up an average of 30 or 73 excuse me and a half per game Game can't collect the front end.

That's been one of his bugaboos of late just under 50% the free throw line One of the least successful Huskies at the stripe here this season they'll step back at the line and This is the second Huskies remain with just two points heading back on defense

Sakasi into the corner, faking the three-point shot and working it right back out to Sakasi there was Jaden Calloway.

Maui Daru defended up by Nordgaard.

Outside, Prosser loses it.

It's gonna be Husky basketball.

Prosser reaching over the top of Nate Abel to try to save that from going out of bounds in the baseline but not able to do so.

And a turnover for the Golden Knights.

It's going to be their second of the game.

Huskies get Josh Tarion back in.

It's the inbound to Tamashik.

Marcus with Abel.

They're going to bring it back across, going towards Tarion, saving it right in front of the Gannon bench.

And the Dawson.

Nordgaard.

And the Huskies getting it all the way back out to the top where Nate will settle it.

To the left, Fernholz, right back down Dawson, left block.

Into the lane, turns, skyhook, off glass, no good.

And the Huskies can't buy one from the floor right now.

Ahead, Calloway.

Kernholtz defending.

Calloway fade away, jump shot, too strong, rebound tapped out.

Recovered by Sakasi.

Tuidaru back out for Calloway, pump fakes there.

Sakasi, the head fake to the free throw line.

Outside, Prosser, three point shot, is no good.

Rebound goes long, collected right back in the corner by Gannon, went right back to Prosser.

And they'll reset here to 10 on the shot clock.

Sacasi, the dribble, left side, too strong off the glass, the foul is going to be called.

It's going to go on the Huskies here with four remaining on that shot clock.

12-37 to go in the first half.

And it's going to Marcus Tamashek, his first team second.

And it will result in additional free throws here for Gannon.

So far only three fouls have been called in the whole game and all have been shooting fouls.

That one for Sakasi is no good.

Sakasi, third leading scorer off the bench.

Plays 22.5 per game, scores 11.5 and shoots it a 69% clip.

from the free throw line.

Looks like he'll be checked out here.

Should he make this one?

He does not.

Husky's tracked down the rebound in the corner and they'll push it ahead.

Abel fires down to the corner.

This is Bernholz back to Tamashik and a foul is going to be called and it's going on Bernholz.

No, they didn't call it on Fernholz offensive foul.

They call a moving screen on Ty who was trying to hand off at Tamashik and got knocked to the floor.

So the Huskies pick up their 13th foul.

We'll get Nordgaard out and Smith back in.

Matt Schmindo will make his first appearance in the game now for the Huskies as well.

The 6-2 junior from Brookfield, Wisconsin.

And inbound will come all the way down.

It's going to be Husky basketball here, so I'm not sure exactly what the call was on the Huskies there if they end up with basketball.

But it goes through to Masiek.

Marcus, bodied up there defensively, working his way inside.

Mark, free throw line, fade away is no good.

Up high for the rebound, Gabe Smith and Gabe.

Gives it cross court for Shminda and Tamashek Marcus the dribble outside Tarion lines up for distance that shot though no good Mark goes to the floor and a foul is going to be called on Ganon Husky still cannot buy one from the field here And it's gonna go on Sarver who is defending against Tamashek there

Fernholz back in, he will replace Nate Abel.

So Schmeinde, Tamashik, Smith, Fernholz, Terian, the five for the Huskies, they go down low towards Schmeinde, it's tapped away by Gannon, they'll do it again.

Huskies inbounding deep underneath the Gannon basket here, still trying to find a second make from the floor, only Jesse Napgezek on his own put back able to be successful.

Terian.

up high, getting it for Schmeinde.

Furnholes, no good for three, and it's rebounded by Gannon.

Prosser gonna try to take it to the distance himself, banks went in and scores.

Huskies will have to inbound here again with the heavy full court pressure from Gannon.

That one's tipped and out of bounds last touched by Tamashik.

And with 11-44 to go in the first half, we'll get another timeout on the floor.

Huskies can have some more adjustments here during this break.

Launce Furniture Mart in Launce.

Huskies trailing 16 to 2 here getting us going here.

Michigan Tech.

Cannot find a basket from the floor right now one of 15 With an 0 for nine count from three-point range Huskies have six offensive rebounds, but if not been able to Get much from them.

That's where they're only two second chance points in the game have come from Jesse nap Gezik missed a shot got his own putback And that's the extent of the Husky scoring in this game

Meanwhile, two offensive rebounds for Gannon.

Leading to no second chance points, but they do have six fast break points, six points in the paint, two points off turnovers, and two points off the bench from Mason Kemp.

Huskies obviously have not yet led in this game.

It's been all Gannon thus far, seven and a half minutes or so of lead time, 11-44 to go in the first half.

Huskies have Abel back on the floor here.

Fernholz in place of Tarion right now, otherwise the Huskies starting five.

Gannon will have Pace Proster to inbound.

And Proster will get it in here for Lucas Morgan, bodied up by Gabe Smith.

Goes down to the floor.

Sarver and now a loose ball there.

Prosser going to draw a foul.

It appears against the Huskies on the inside.

It's going to go against Nate Abel.

Gannon just refeeding.

And that will send Prosser to the free throw line.

He has their team's leading score at 18.3 per contest.

88% shooter from the free throw line.

He's played about a thousand minutes this season himself.

Game and start number 35.

Sakasi, Idaru back in the game for Gannon.

Joining Sarver and Kemp and Prosser who makes both free throws.

And right now the Huskies digging themselves a hole.

Fernholz gonna get it in for Tamashek.

And Marcus.

We'll get it back over for Fernholz, right back to Mark, left side, and he'll cross that timeline here.

Husky setting up with 20 on the shot clock here in the half court.

Abel, looking down low, floats it forward, Nordgaard.

Nordgaard with Idaru, right back out, Nates, pump fakes, drives inside, and then swings for Fernholz, back to Tamashik.

Marcus lines one up, still can't get it to go.

Ball goes loose off the foot of a Ganon player.

I think that was Sakasi down low number zero and it will be Husky basketball here with a reset of 20 on the shot clock.

Abel will be the inbounder here again underneath the basket.

Goes wide for Nordgaard.

Dawson driving his way in.

Pump fakes and draws a foul.

Looks like it's going to go against Precious Idaru.

Good job by Dawson backing down against Lucas Morgan Rather 33 Mason camp not 34 Morgan and then a Daru came into his spot defensively and drew the foul North guard makes the free throws with a husky scoreless stretch lasting nearly six minutes Last field goal at 1651 it's

10-58 on the scoreboard right now.

Second for Dawson goes through, so the Huskies have doubled up their scoring here, but it's 18-4, Gannon with the lead.

Huskies bodying up here defensively as Napjesek and Schmeinde have come in.

Pull up, jump shot, Sarver back irons, that high rebound for Kemp goes in, lays it up and scores.

Mason Kemp just got...

premium position to get the rebound.

Abel with napgezik in the Husky backcourt here.

Got to have to hustle though.

24, gives it down deep.

Nordgaard with wide open draws the foul on Kemp this time.

Could have gone up hard to the basket, tried to dunk it, maybe get the end one, but he draws the foul instead against Kemp.

And Nordgaard will go back to the free throw line where he just...

collected a couple for Michigan Tech a few moments ago.

That one goes through.

Second free throw here for the Husky senior from Depeer, Wisconsin.

He's made all four from the line.

And it is 22 six Michigan Tech trailing here by 14.

Sakasi working against Napgezek.

Looking for Prosser.

Abel right in front of him.

Nate doing a great job standing up there and the ball goes out of bounds and it will be basketball Ganon.

20 on the shot clock here.

10-10 in the game clock inbound.

Four Ganon was nearly stolen away and then it was.

Gabe Smith got his hand on it, got bounced all the way back about 15 feet to Dawson Nordgaard.

Huskies dealing with a ton of pressure here in the back court and they are not going to be able to break it.

Another 10 second violation forced by Gannon defensively.

Huskies just couldn't find a way to get a clean handle on the basketball with a look ahead.

And now Gannon will inbound again from that offensive baseline.

Inbound going down low towards Idaru, and it's knocked out of bounds.

Idaru goes to the floor, Shminda tips it away.

Jaden Callaway is going to come back in for Cannon.

No other changes.

And as they're finishing the mop-up duty there, Gannon will inbound now 17 on the shot clock, 9-50 to go here in our first half.

Knights leading 20-6.

Prosser, step back, jump shot is no good.

Nordgaard, good rebound position.

Hands off for Schmeinde.

And Schmeinde will be able to get it across half court with some of the least amount of harassment the Huskies have seen all day.

Part of that is due to the fact that there was finally a missed shot.

Able, left wing side.

Looking down low towards Nordgaard.

Motherfoul is going to be called here on Gannon.

This one's going to go on Sarver, I believe, number 12.

Go ahead to the bench.

We'll see Lucas Morgan come back in and Mackenzie Morgan come back in.

A law firm of Morgan and Morgan back in for Gannon.

Nordgaard gets the inbound.

Backing down.

Against Idaru high sky again for Nordgard and it drops through good hook there for Dawson Nordgard who's been the Huskies offense here in the last few minutes And really for the bulk of the game at this point Idaru driving by and he's gonna get fouled and he's gonna have a Injury it looks like he's holding on to his knee and that's not a good look there for precious Idaru He landed awkwardly on that knee that

Right knee.

Non-contact.

I don't think he's not getting up here.

He's sitting down.

The training staff's not hustling over to look at him at all, which is a little surprising.

He will be helped up by some teammates, but able to hobble it off right now and stretch it out.

Reminiscent of a couple of the Division 1 injuries we've seen of late, including Michigan's backup point guard, Kaysen.

That was not a good injury for LJ Kaysen of Michigan, and Idaru will see if he's going to get to continue here.

And for Gabe, that's going to be his first, and the team is fifth.

Idaru is going to keep walking it out here.

Ganon does not look like they're gonna sub for him at this point And here he goes to the free throw line This is that free throw He's a good shooter from the free throw line So wondering if that knee affecting his motion at all

Didn't that well wasn't being sucked originally and now he will potentially This is both rebound goes to Nordgaard, and he's definitely still favoring that knee hustling his way back though And it's stolen away Husky looking ahead to nap Gezek and it was taken by Mackenzie Morgan Now Lucas Morgan for Calloway back for Ederu

and Calloway on the dribble against Terian.

Fade away shot is no good.

Rebound hung around the rim for a moment so Nate Abel couldn't grab that.

Lobs it ahead for Nefgesik.

Will get it back for Nate and the Huskies will try to get back to 10 or less on this possession down 20 to 8.

For Terian.

Off for Nefgesik, Jesse.

Had it swatted at, keeps the dribble alive here.

Backing down against Mackenzie Morgan.

Another swap, and a foul is gonna be called.

Looks like Mackenzie's gonna pick that one up here.

Little grab on an aphgezic trying to hustle back to the loose ball.

Couple times it was knocked away.

Yeah, and there's a little bit of a hook on his right arm there.

Good look by our officials.

Officials today, Wasey Lim, Devon Page, Owen Lucky.

Inbound goes to Nordgaard, and Nordgaard had it swatted and another foul is going to be called.

Victor Desmond has checked in in place of Idaru, who's going to be looked at by the training staff off in the corner.

Sent Dawson Nordgaard back to the free throw line.

This is a one-on-one though, 17 foul against Gannon.

And that rattles out no good.

Huskies had a chance to cut it to 10 potentially with a pair of free throws.

Now Lucas Morgan outside from Mackenzie.

Mackenzie on the drive and off balance shot as he's fouled by Nap-Gezik goes tumbling to the floor and will have a timeout on the floor.

7-57 remaining in our first half.

Well

the Huskies have managed another shot from the floor but at this point here they still have not really done all that much offensively.

Two of 17 shooting.

Four of seven from the free throw line.

Rebounds are even at 14.

The Huskies seven and seven offensive defensive.

Gannon four and ten.

Huskies have committed seven six personal fouls have drawn seven have turned it over six times Three steals by Ganon four turnovers for them They're shooting percentages pretty average right now Excuse me seven of 16 for the Knights two of three from outside four of eight at the free throw line Huskies

0 of 10 from distance, need to find a three point shot here.

Starting five out there for the Huskies, minus North guard and plus Grant Warren.

Dawson leads the Huskies with six of the eight team points right now.

Now, Gezik, the other two is Mackenzie Morgan will make the first free throw here and a second one coming up here for the Aussie.

is good.

22 to 8.

Gannon's got the lead.

Huskies get the inbound to Abel.

Huskies quick to break and push it ahead for Tamashik.

Marcus helps Gordelis on five shots here thus far.

Warren to Marcus.

A little bobble there goes back to Abel.

Nate gets a screen throws it across from Marcus.

Marcus another step back three point shot.

That's offline rebound goes to

Gabe Smith and the reset of the shot clock was potentially incorrect looking over at Easton Bazzoli in his second season at Gannon trying to determine whether or not that was improperly reset.

And they'll have to take a look at the monitor here and let us know.

Husky Basketball here on this Wednesday afternoon from Pittsburgh.

The Men's Division 2 Elite 8 brought to you in part by Northern Michigan Land Brokers called 906-523-5575 or visit online nmlbhoten.com for all your real estate needs.

Northern Michigan Land Brokers joining in as one of our new sponsors here of Husky Basketball at the Elite 8.

Glad to have them with us.

Husky fans in behind the Michigan Tech bench right now not getting a lot of Stuff to cheer for offensively from the Huskies at this point defensively.

I think the Huskies have done a pretty decent job enforcing some turnovers and limiting good looks for cannon 44% shooting

Shot clock will be reset to six seconds as it did not hit the rim.

Gannon shoots about 46 and a half percent from the floor per game.

So they are a pretty good shooting team as a whole.

So right now being held just slightly below average.

We'll just call it on average at this point.

Huskies though being held well below.

Shot clock way down ball tipped out of bounds and now we're going to have a reset to three on the shot clock seven and a half to go.

Husky's off to do it again, have to find a quick shot here.

In the Gannon bench, it goes to Marcus in the corner, heaves one up, hits the rim, doesn't get the rebound though and it goes to Gannon.

Pushed ahead, Sakasi.

Working in against Gabe, back outside Calloway and Lucas Morgan.

Now in against Grant Warren.

High shot is no good.

Going to the floor looking for a foul.

On the play was Victor Desmond.

None to be had.

Tamashik open for three.

Huskies still cannot buy one.

And a miss by the Huskies.

Easy rebound and transition for Gannon.

Desmond back outside.

It's tipped and collected again by the Knights.

Calloway.

Refeed to Desmond.

Against Warren.

And Sikasi, they're going to go to the other side.

This is Lucas Morgan.

Pass back from Mackenzie, three-point shot is good.

Timeout Huskies coming up here by Michigan Tech.

And the Huskies on the double team there, just real slow to try and get out to defend on the three-point shot.

Frustrating Coach Bittner.

And stretching that lead back out here.

to now their biggest of the game at 17 points.

Gannon with 631 to go.

Husky is held to just eight points at this stage in the game, shooting 10% from the floor, all of 13 from distance.

You'd think things will start to shake out from Michigan Tech offensively sooner rather than later.

Be hard pressed to believe you're going to shoot this poorly all game long.

Some of it is Gannon's defense certainly making it difficult in the back court to get things set up to a half court offense Once they're in the half court tech has had some decent looks So Huskies will inbound here going ahead for able and Nate's will throw it down for Smith Reset here able

And off to Marcus to Gabe and swung around Tarion Josh on the dribble here back from Marcus Marcus gonna get into the lane dumps one off to Gabe Double team comes there and he heaves it and it's gonna go out of bounds all the way into the backcourt way too tall intended for Tarion and another Husky turnover caused by Double team defense Substitution's gonna take

Gabe and Warren off the floor, Nordgaard and Nefgezek back in for the Huskies.

Roster going to be the inbounder here and he'll push it back for Precious Edaroos back in after that knee injury a little bit earlier.

Looks good, goes all the way to the basket, lays it in.

Ahead for Abel.

Nate pushes it down the floor to Nordgaard.

Dawson back for Nate in the corner.

Baseline drive outside Nordgaard.

And Nefgezek.

Terry in left wing.

Down low, here's Nordgaard.

They're looking to double again.

Dawson turns, hooks, scores.

Right now Dawson Nordgaard is the Husky offense here today, getting a couple of nice hook shots from inside.

Meanwhile, Gannon on three, going to miss that one.

Sarver and a foul is going to be called.

A little too much pressure.

It's going to go on Victor Desmond.

It's going to be another one-on-one try.

Excuse me, from the Huskies.

It's going to be Josh Terrian to shoot free throws.

It really hasn't been a whole lot of fouling called on the full court pressure defense by Gannon.

That right there, one of the exceptions.

Mash it off the floor.

Substitution in.

Bring back in Ty Fernholz, the Husky sophomore from Stoughton, Wisconsin.

Free throw, good for Terry in earth, the second.

On the one and one here.

Eighth team foul.

Desmond's got two personals.

Sarver's got two, the only two for Gannon with multiple.

The Huskies have nobody with multiple fouls at this stage.

But they do trail by 15, 27-12.

Five minutes approaching here, remaining in the first half, brought to by the turbo agency.

Prosser for Morgan.

Lucas Morgan backing down against Terriott.

Josh holding his ground and able to defend against Morgan.

Float ahead for Fernholz and the Huskies finally collect a three.

Top between my words there is Fernholz catches the floater ahead and without any defender standing in front of him able to hit the three.

Idaru is going to try to answer and he will.

Right wing side drawing North guard away from the three points to the three point line.

Terian inbound and Apgezek.

Able ahead and too high into the children.

And I think everybody's good over there.

Officials did double check, make sure everybody was all good down in the students section behind our...

Television and other radio crew.

Goes to Idaru now, floater is blocked, tipped up and recovered by Tarion.

Tarion leads it for Fernholz.

Fernholz, top of the key to the right wing side, napgezik on the dribble.

Back for Fernholz, launches from distance, too strong.

Rebound block out hard and Tarion to the floor.

Foul is going against Gannon.

And with 359 to go in our first half, we have a timeout on the floor.

The

last foul against Gannon McKenzie Morgan responsible his second of the game And now that is Three different Knights players with two personal fouls Team total of nine and Huskies should have a one-and-one coming up here first three-point shot finally

made by Ty Fernholz a little while ago.

Huskies one of 15.

Overall now four for 23 from the floor.

I'd say they're heating up.

That's probably disingenuous, but at least they've made a couple of their last few shots.

I think going from two of 20 to four of 23 is a bright spot here for the Huskies in the last few moments.

Dawson Nordgaard leading Michigan Tech with eight.

Idaru and Mackenzie Morgan in double figures for Gannon.

with 10 and 12 respectively.

Prosser and Kemp each with four for their team total of 30.

Terian and Epgezek have the two and two for Michigan Tech.

Terian gonna try to make it three and hopefully four at the free throw line here for the Huskies.

The one and one, last of the one and ones for the Husky offense.

That is no good in the rebound.

Lucas Morgan.

goes back for Sarver excuse me that is a secassi and now for Morgan looking down to Foster can't find him there in an offensive foul called that's Mackenzie Morgan's third and our review is going to happen here as Lucas Morgan goes down or a communication between our officials

I think Mackenzie Morgan's gonna pick up a third personal foul and now they're talking about a foul potentially after the play here Moving screen on Mackenzie Morgan Would be three on him The officials though look like they're gonna discuss something that might have happened after the play let's see if we can get an announcement on that Yeah, they are saying something after the play

Didn't

get a great here from our official So they'll look at the monitors here and discuss things But you know that in 342 of game time our halftime show will come up for you where a full recap of stats

will come your way.

Brought to you by Northern Michigan Land Brokers.

First half today, sponsored by the Turbo Agency.

They've been with us all season long, bringing us your first half of basketball.

Thank the guys at Turbo for their sponsorship and support throughout the season.

And certainly welcoming Northern Michigan Land Brokers for their support here during the Huskies historic run to the Elite 8.

More games are on the schedule, of course, for today.

There are three more.

Cal State, East Bay, the number two scene will face number seven, Oklahoma Baptist at 2.30 to round out session one.

In session two, number one, Nova Southeastern will face Black Hills State.

Six o'clock start at 8.30.

Damon and Lander 4.5 will round out session two and today's games.

And let's see what our officials have to say about the possibility of a late foul.

announced to our television crew what the call is

here.

So a technical foul called on Josh Tarion.

Under the basket there late after the whistle had blown and he's talking to the official wondering what the purpose of that was for So Proser gonna get to shoot technical free throws And Proser makes the first second one coming up here makes that one as well

and the Huskies not gonna get possession after the common foul on Mackenzie Morgan as the technical will take precedence so it's Gannon basketball again after those free throws so hurts the Huskies chances of Climbing back in here a little bit with those free throws and now possession Lucas Morgan on the dribble goes down fouls gonna be called on Gabe Smith

It's going to be two, I believe, on Gabe now.

And it is just that.

Now eight on the Huskies.

So one and one here for Lucas Morgan.

This is a free throw.

Nap-Gezik gets the board for the Huskies.

Jab step there for Jesse.

One-on-one with Pace Prosser in the backcourt.

A little stutter move.

And Epgeza got it across.

Jesse for Nordgaard top of the key.

For Fernholz.

Closed out there.

Sarver.

Now Abel in front of the Gannon bench.

Pulls up for three.

No good long rebound going outside.

Saved by Gabe but it will be saved as a loose ball to Gannon.

And pushed ahead here for Pace Prosser.

Prosser slams into Nap-Gezik and Jesse's gonna pick up a foul there.

Hard foul against Jesse Nap-Gezik.

And that's gonna be two now on Jesse.

And a one and

one here.

Final one and one, another half, Pace-Prosser.

Back to the line, makes the first.

88% shooter on the season is Pace-Prosser.

Makes it both again.

And Prosser, perfect from the line in this game.

As Fernholz will trigger it in for Gabe Smith, who's checked back in.

Set back for Abel and now the double team shows Abel pushes ahead for Tamashik Marcus left wing the top Abel settling into half court 15 on the shot clock Gabe for Marcus wide open down low as Nordgaard nowhere to go for Dawson He turns then skies up again misses the shot rebound loose comes deep Abel pump fakes goes inside dishes off for Nordgaard again

Still can't get the shot to go, out of bounds, off of Nordgaard.

Schmeinde reenters, preferred holes.

Husky shooting just 15% from the floor right now, one of their lowest scoring outputs in a first half this season.

As the dish off for Idaru, three point shot, wide right.

Air ball is no good and Gabe Smith gonna dribble it out of trouble.

A head for Schmeinde.

Schmeinde gets run into by Prosser who steals it away.

No fouls called.

Prosser goes right through Abel and now I think Abel's gonna pick up a foul.

And cheese.

Prost are able to take out Matt Schmeinde with the basketball and then when he's got the basketball goes ahead and clears out Nate himself.

So Prost are really causing some havoc there for the Huskies.

We'll see Fernholz come back in here.

For somebody, seems like it's going to be Schmeinde.

And Proser makes another free throw.

So everybody's in double figures here for team Fowles, so two free throws either direction.

Inbound to Abel.

Abel zips it down for Gabe Smith outside, Furnholz, tees it up for three, bang.

And

Furnholz doesn't need a lot of daylight generally.

He didn't have much there.

Abel to connect on the three-pointer.

Important basket for the Huskies is Sakasi underneath.

This is Kim.

And swung around here.

Sakasi will get it back.

Right wing, beat up by Gabe Smith.

Goes to the right, pushes one up, misses the rebound.

Husky's gonna get a foul on it.

Looks like Nordgaard with a little bit of a grab on the rebound try rather and it's going to set up more free throws here for Gannon.

Gannon averages 18.5 free throw makes per game.

And that's gonna be their 13th snake already here in the first half.

And Kemp will miss the second free throw.

Rebound able.

Nate hustles it down.

High dribble there.

Over to Fernholz.

Launches again.

Makes again.

And Ty Fernholz getting hot from outside.

Helping be the man to dig the Huskies out of a big hole.

Prosser looking down low for Kemp.

Going back for Prosser.

Trostler getting inside, pulls up the shot, line drive is no good, rebound Warren going for it.

Another Gannon player hits the floor.

It's going to be Kemp and Grant Warren is going to pick up a personal foul on this one.

And it's going to mean more free throws for Gannon.

Seemed like they were letting guys play early on in the half and now the whistles have become more frequent.

No good on that free throw for

Kemp.

And Kemp will have his second to come up here.

37-21.

Gannon currently in the lead under a minute to go here, making 38.

And Huskies will need to find some more offense here again in this last 56.7.

try to cut into this lead before halftime.

Abel, spinning around in the backcourt, guarded by Sarver, goes inside, stops, back to Fernholz, right back to Nate.

Open for a long shot that is no good.

It was a two, I think, maybe three late call.

Crosser gonna step in, transition for three.

Rhythm-wise no good, Abel the rebound, and another foul is called as Abel going for the rebound.

Lucas Morgan goes to the floor and another whistle.

And another set of free throws coming up for Gannon.

Coach Bittner, I think getting that same feeling that I'm having over here is that Gannon getting the calls when they go to the floor.

I didn't see a good replay to see what the contact was to draw the foul, but Morgan misses the free throw.

And now Nate's got, I believe, a pair of free throws here.

A pair of fouls, excuse me.

Make it a trio, he's got three.

And he front ends both of them.

Off the front iron.

Nate picks up a third foul, and that's going to be a foul in the backcourt there as Calloway steps in front of Nepgezik and knocks him over.

So free throw shooting contest here to wrap up the first half.

It appears as Jesse Nepgezik, who is no stranger to the free throw line following the NCAA regional.

During the regular season Jesse 39 or 49 of 68 in the postseason including the GLIAC tournament 44 of 59 for Jesse napkezik And he misses the first and misses both of them make that And the Huskies

Head back on defense where the Ganon Golden Age will call their timeout.

With 21 seconds to go, shot clock will be off.

And Ganon will look to take the final shot or shots of the first half brought to you by the turbo agency.

Thanks Dave for picking up a couple nuggets for me here the worst half this season for the Huskies Against Grand Valley where they scored just 17.

They've outdone that now taking some effort certainly, but they've surpassed that Meanwhile back in 2018 the Huskies saw a poor first half performance of just 11 points They didn't have winning the game 50 to 43, but

Offense will need to be substantially better in the second half.

And I would say equally the second half's defense will need to be substantially better to have any sort of similar scoring result there.

Gannon already at 38 points.

Still below a season average though.

Can they score 95 on offense per game?

So break that down amongst halves.

They're about 10 shy of their first half scoring out putter.

Half by half scoring output.

As Crosser goes for Mackenzie Morgan into the corner.

Sarver's shot is blocked.

Saved by Michigan Tech and Tamashik even went from half court.

Well wide.

Good job by Michigan Tech.

Michigan Tech's defense and I believe Grant Moran getting a hand on a late shot to the corner for Sarver.

Lane Sarver could hit the three.

Huskies will trail though by 17 going into the break Yet in 38, Michigan Tech 21 our first half was sponsored by the turbo agency And your halftime show on the way courtesy of Northern Michigan Land Brokers stats and more on the way from the NCAA Division two men's basketball championship elite eight held at Duquesne University's UPMC Cooper Field House Brought to you here on mix 93 WKFJ

So

not the best first half that Michigan Tech has experienced this season, certainly, but they do know how to play from behind.

And they will have to do that here in Pittsburgh, PA.

Gannon, 38, Michigan Tech, 21.

Halftime show is sponsored by Northern Michigan Land Brokers.

And shooting percentage for Michigan Tech is not good.

Six of 29 from the floor.

It's 20.7%.

Free-point shooting is even worse at 3 of 19.

That's 15.8 percent and the free throw shooting percentage has also not been great for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech shoots better than this from the free throw line on a typical basis but 6 of 12 from the free throw line right now for a team that shoots 70 percent.

Definitely all

below average right now, Husky shoot 44% from the floor, 35.5 from three point range and 70.5 from the free throw line and all of those are below average right now.

Michigan Tech also turns the ball over just under 12 times per game and it's at 10 right now.

So not a lot of positives from the Michigan Tech first half.

offensively certainly.

Defensively they've done okay.

Certainly you look at shooting percentage numbers and they've gotten in line a little bit better.

10 of 28 from the floor for Gannon 35.7% which is more than 10% less than their season average.

4 of 9 from 3.

Big difference in this game though you can see at the free throw line opportunities for Gannon 14 of 23.

at sixty point nine percent percentage not great volume of attempts though is better and that's because Michigan Tech has been called for thirteen fouls and a fair amount of those early on were shooting fouls and since then the one-and-ones and double bonus situation favoring Gannon Huskies have multiple personal fouls against four different players including Nate Abel with three

Two each for Dawson Nordgaard and Gabe Smith and Jesse Knapp-Gezik, Marcus Tamashik, Josh Tarian, Ty Fernholz and Grant Warren each whistled for one foul.

For Gannon, they picked up 11 fouls.

Not many of them, as many of them are shooting fouls, though Mackenzie Morgan does have three.

Two for Lane Sarver and two for Victor Desmond, while one each tacked on to Precious Idaru, Lucas Morgan, Jaden Calloway and Mason Kemp.

Huskies have 10 offensive rebounds.

It's only led to four second chance points.

16 defensive rebounds for a team total of 26.

Gannon's got seven offensive boards, which has also led to four second chance points.

17 defensive rebounds, 24 total.

Gannon leads in points off of turnovers as might be suspected with 10 turnovers by Michigan Tech leading to 10 Gannon points.

The five turnovers by the Knights.

have not resulted in any scoring from Michigan Tech.

Gannon leads in points in the paint 10 to 6, same in fast break points, while the Huskies have 11 to 6 in the advantage from the bench.

Leading scorer right now for Michigan Tech is Ty Fernholz, who found some fire from three point land in the second half of the first half.

Three of five from distance to lead again with nine.

Dawson Nordgaard has got eight, two of five from the floor, four of five from the free throw line.

Other scores for Michigan Tech, Josh Tarion and Jesse Nepkezik each have two.

So again, not high scoring for Michigan Tech, just 21 points.

Three players in double figures for Gannon, Idaru, Mackenzie Morgan and Prosser with 10, 12 and 10 respectively.

Prosser has eight of eight from the free throw line, one of six from the floor.

The game's leading rebounder is Gabe Smith with eight.

Josh Tarion's got six.

Dawson Nordgaard's got four, then Lucas Morgan and Lucas Sacasi each with four rebounds for Cannon, same for Mason Kemp, three for Josh Tarion.

Make that three for Jesse Napgezik, it was six for Tarion, three for Napgezik, three for Pace Prosser, and then a smattering of other rebounding, including Napgezik and Abel with multiple for the Huskies.

Generally speaking the Huskies have done a lot of the little things well.

They just have not made shots and have not taken care of the basketball quite as well as they would have wanted to in this game.

Second half quite clearly they'll have to shoot the ball substantially better.

They can continue to play defense against Gannon shooting like they have that will bode well.

Few fewer fouls be helpful as well.

Biggest lead for Gannon was up to 21.

Biggest scoring run of nine points they've led for 19-21 of this game.

Josh Therrien has the only technical foul in this game.

It occurred at the 3-42 mark near that media timeout.

A foul coming after play had stopped.

The common foul against Morgan effectively wiped off as free throws and possession going back to Gannon.

while the Huskies were trying to chip away at the deficit.

So, lots still though to be determined for Michigan Tech.

Well,

second half getting ready to start up here in just a few moments.

Gannon 38, Michigan Tech 21.

Gannon has scored no less than 74 points this season.

Run pace to get just over that, but they've also scored more than 100 points 13 times.

I have to have a pretty strong second half to accomplish that, not that they couldn't.

But certainly Michigan Tech's defense will have a few things to say about that Huskies defensively this season giving up just 66 and a half points per contest while scoring 74 points per game.

Gannon does give up 74 so per game Huskies will need some work to get there down 17 but a new half upon us and a chance to shoot at a different basket will hopefully yield some fresh results for the Huskies second half brought to you by

Northern Michigan Land Brokers.

Sponsor of our second half here today.

Huskies will inbound here to get things rolling in the second half.

It's going to go back to Marcus in the back court, right back for Josh.

And some full court pressure being applied here by Lucas Morgan.

Josh will get it across to Nordgaard right back.

Going to Josh again.

Off for Dawson.

Still working around the outside.

Down low, Marcus gets it underneath, throws it off of one of the defensive players.

Looks like Victor Desmond underneath.

Huskies with a dozen on the shot clock here will reset in the half court.

Mashik.

Inbound for Terry and right back down low for Marcus and a layup underneath.

We'll get Huskies on the board to get things rolling.

Nice little play inside there for the Huskies to get off on the right foot here in half two.

Crosser.

Pulls up the jump shot in front of Nate Abel and scores it.

Long distance two with Nate right on him.

And now they'll get that pressure press back up here.

Abel gonna be fouled by Lucas Morgan in the backcourt and that's more of what I was expecting to see some of here.

Get a shake of the head there from Easton Bazzoli.

But again you put that kind of pressure on defensively you shouldn't be surprised by seeing some fouls in the backcourt there.

Bodying up real tough back there.

Huskies lead it ahead for Gabe Smith.

Gabe gonna go all the way to the rack misses gets his own rebound Quadruple teamed underneath needs to find an outlet and they will get it for Nordgaard drives inside Dawson goes in no foul and Precious Idaru grabs the rebound for Ganon.

Huskies had a good look though And a screen and a foul and it's on Morgan and that's four And again the Ganon bench

Coach Pazzoli and Mackenzie Morgan.

Not pleased, and Mackenzie Morgan's probably gonna have to come off here after four fouls.

Pazzoli in the ear of the official right there.

Could be a big loss.

Morgan, the fifth leading scorer here, plays almost 24 a game.

Down low.

This is Nordgaard.

Loses control and has to throw it out of bounds Got knocked off balance a little bit there working against the Daru Another unforced turnover of sorts though by Michigan Tech offensively 40 to 23 Proser driving in works out three-point shoddy Daru is no good rebound timber Down goes Desmond down goes Smith

The two leaning on each other on that rebound.

And they go down, and Tamashik coming up a little bit lame on that.

He's been dealing with a couple of different injuries here in the last week and a half or so.

Husky's certainly not fully healthy at this point.

Not really bringing it up, because you can't do anything about it, not a big excuse.

A shot for Adiaru's good.

Mid range shot led ahead here for Tamashik Marcus back out for Josh fakes the right goes back to the left for Marcus Mark a couple jab steps here against Crosser turns fires misses rebound tipped and tied up Smith and Idaru Gonna be possession Janet.

Good job, buddy

Gabe to tie up again there.

Gabe's got nine boards in this game.

Husky's going to employ a little bit of backcourt pressure at first at least.

At least make the Knights think about it.

Ball knocked away and stolen ahead.

Here's Nordgaard.

One bounce and a jam for Dawson Nordgaard.

Good steal, good track down there for Nordgaard, all the way to the basket for the jam.

Desmond going out of bounds, gets it saved to Sarver.

Sarver left wing, down low, here's Lucas Morgan with Tarion there for Adiaru's free throw jump shot, rolls out, no good, rebound, Abel.

Abel, heaves it ahead for Marcus.

Huskies actually had numbers for a moment there.

Down low.

Here's Nordgaard.

About mid-range here.

Back out for Terrian.

Terrian drives to Abel.

Baseline move.

He's closed off right back for Gabe.

Launches a three.

It's good.

Here come the Huskies.

Couple of nice plays defensively by Michigan Tech.

Abel has set up some offense here.

They're down by 14.

42-28.

Sarver.

Back for Adiaru.

Three point shot.

He is good.

And he is a three point shooter that the Huskies don't have a great matchup for.

40 for 127 from outside this season.

Not a, he got high, high percentage.

31 and a half.

Takes an arrange of I'd say four, three and a half to four a game.

But that's not where Dawson Nordgard is comfortable defending.

So it puts an interesting match up there.

We've got a timeout on the floor here and I believe was taken by the Huskies.

We'll hold this here as we do have a media timeout coming up for you soon.

Huskies five of six from the floor here to get started this half.

Three of five from Gannon, but the Knights have turned it over a couple times, which has led to the Huskies first points off turnovers.

as well as fast break points for Michigan Tech here.

Husky subs include Ty Fernholz.

He joins the Husky starters of Smith, Tamashik, Abel and Norgard.

Meanwhile, it looks like a potpourri of substitutions for Gannon, I think all.

Bench players out there right now.

For coach Pazzoli, yep, and a whistle.

And the shot clock started and a game clock may have started even before the inbound here.

Quick on the trigger finger there.

Still started over.

Yeah, the whole game clock and everything got rolling with 1626 to go in this half.

Inbound for Fernholz goes ahead to Abel and to Maschek.

Marcus.

Down into the corner.

Double team throws it out deep to Nate Abel.

Abel gets into the lane looking down low.

Gabe Smith triple team back outside.

Fertholds open for three.

No good.

Rebound tapped by Nordgaard.

Can't be saved though to the Huskies as Sarver will get it.

Gabe was tied up there.

Huskies wanted a foul.

None was given.

Here is Calloway left wing at the top of the key.

Sarver works to his right.

Mid-range and a foul is called on Tamashek as a pull-up jump shot.

Doesn't even get out of the hands of Sarver.

And more shooting fouls here for the Knights.

We'll have those free throws after this time out on the floor.

The 15-52 to go in her second half.

Discan in 45, Michigan Tech 28.

Welcome back inside UMPC Cooper Field House on the campus of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Husky's getting good views of Ackershire Stadium where the Steelers play, also PNC Park where the Pittsburgh Pirates will open up their season coming up soon.

Also PPG paints Arena just next door to us over here in downtown where the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Got smoked by the Colorado Avalanche last night But a big sports city certainly is Pittsburgh and they've been a great host of this Combined elite eight tournament with men's and women's basketball both participating here The last few days certainly makes for interesting practice times and locations schedules Try to get everybody there Huskies did not play or practice on this floor at all.

It played

in the practice yesterday in the practice gym nearby here.

And on Monday, scoring factory was the host for the Huskies.

So first time seeing the rims here at the field house where this morning, as the free throw for Sarver, no good.

Great spot for the Huskies offensively.

They've scored more in the second half than they have in the first and Gannon has given up more in the second half Then they have in the first both free throws were off So the Huskies get the rebound and push it ahead open here is Nordgaard Outside for Fernholz swung around this is Tamashik for Abel Right back from Marcus Marcus on the dribble stops free throw line fade away.

No good

It's a bounce around the rim for a moment.

The loose ball goes to Gannon.

Bounce pass down low, and a kick ball off the Huskies.

So that was the bright side.

The downside is that opponents have also scored more against the Huskies in the second half.

And Gannon has scored more points in the second half of their games offensively as well.

So both sides of the coin there can be seen as Nordgaard checks out.

Grant Warren back in for the first time here in the second half Inbound is knocked away by Grant Warren As the pass from Mason Kemp was going towards pace Prosser trying to cut in on the baseline Prosser in bounds goes to Kemp and he lays it up and in Huskies just then not a great Defensive

Position there on Kemp.

Inbound goes to Gabe Smith and a foul is going to be called as Lane Sarver fouls Gabe there.

Chasing him down defensively there in the back court.

Adiaru back in.

Lucas Morgan back in.

That's three fouls on Sarver.

Husky's going to inbound to Abel.

Double teamed quickly.

Fernholz Stutter is way up the floor to Tomaszek Marcus trying to give himself a little bit of space Here at the right wing right in front of me at the scores table To Fernholz left wing side.

This is Gabe Right back up top Fernholz long-distance tray is no good rebound at Lucas Morgan and ahead here for Gannon

Calloway spinning into the lane and picking up his dribble.

Sakasi, mismatch there with Grant Warren.

One on one, everybody in the other side of the floor.

He misses the shot and Gable get another rebound.

He's got double figures.

Tamashik for Abel.

Screen set there and a switch.

It's going to help out here if they can get it to Grant Warren.

Can't get it to him here just yet.

Fernholz inside, back out for Abel.

Three point try for Nates.

Sinks through, it's good.

Huskies though down by 16, 14 minutes remaining here in the second half.

Morgan against Warren.

Back outside tipped briefly there by Fernholz, but not much as it goes to Idaru.

Sakasi.

Banks one high glass no good rebound Grant Grant's got to go somewhere at the basketball and he finds Marcus Pressure in the backcourt able gets knocked over and a foul is going to be called on Callaway You heard the audible sound from Ganon fans and their bench really trying to get a foul in the backcourt with to magic as they were buying up pretty tight there

In the back court on that full court pressure, eventually the foul is called as Nate Abel gets knocked down.

And it looks like the foul on Callaway is his second.

Jesse Napgezek in for Michigan Tech here.

Gives Gabe Smith a breather.

Inbound goes to Ty.

And Furnholes will go to Napgezek.

Jesse, way back for Ty.

Get a mismatch there with Fernholz and IDR defensively.

Nefgezek working in, down to three, uses glass, can't get a blocking foul called underneath on Gannon.

And Pace Proster putting his hands out.

It's going to be a foul on him.

Gannon fans not happy with the call, but Crosser was still moving.

Hadn't set position as Napgezik misses the front end of the free throw.

Here are the second one to come.

Jesse, sick most of the day.

Yesterday did not go to practice, didn't go to team dinner.

Misses both free throws here and as a result his minutes a little bit more limited here than they were the rest of the tournament.

Pass attempt outside, tripping over it is Napgezik.

Nearly stolen.

Wide open three point shot.

Sikasi no good.

And Tamashik the rebound.

Marcus goes through the legs around the back.

Dipsy doodling around back to Abel.

Into the corner for Fernholz.

And the Jesse.

And to Marcus and a foul is called again.

You can see the arm raking across the front there of Marcus and Jaden Calloway.

As Marcus trying to get the dribble in and Calloway will pick up a third personal here.

And for the Gannon Knights, that is team foul number six.

Huskies called for two.

Perhaps a correction may be coming.

We'll see.

Lowes to Huskies down by 13.

Excuse me, 16.

They have to find a way to chip away with under 13 minutes to play.

Nep Gezik for Tamashik.

Being hand checked there by Prosser.

Step back.

Tamashik makes the three.

It's good.

And he cuts it down to 13.

Huskies hustling back on defense.

Sikasi against Nep Gezik.

Couldn't get him off his feet, so he'll dish off a crosser with Marcus guarding him.

And now he'll step to the side, pull up his own three point try.

It's no good.

Racing out to half court, it's Nep Gezik.

Got it tipped away.

And out of bounds, running hard into the end was Pace Prosser.

And we'll have a timeout on the floor here in 11.56 to go in the second half.

It is Gannon, 47, Michigan Tech 34.

Huskies have possession on offense.

When we come back, you're listening to NCAA Division II Men's Basketball from the Elite Eight.

Husky is trailing by 13 near the second half.

They've been down by as many as 21 in this game.

The tail end of the first half.

They've managed to weasel their way a little bit closer.

Still going to need some more shots to fall.

Five of 11 here in the second half.

He continued that pace but also continued to slow down Gannon.

They're four of ten, one of five from outside right now and the free throws both teams 0 for 2 here in the first half, but Nate Abel and I guess no free throws coming up here just yet one more foul before the free throws that was a out of bounds.

So Ty Fernholz will inbound for the Huskies when we get back to play.

And we are just about ready to go here.

And the inbound goes to Jesse Knappgesek over for Nate Abel.

Here is Fernholz, picked up there.

Back to Abel, back to Fernholz, corner for three.

No good, long rebound tipped by Knappgesek, is the top.

Tamashik for three, no.

Knappgesek the offensive board again.

for Abel for three, and swirls it through.

The spin that need Abel has sometimes can kick that out this time.

It just swirled it right on down, and the Huskies down by ten.

Haven't been this close in a while, and they will not be that close for much, as a play by Lucas Morgan will draw an end one against Napgezek defensively.

And a chance to put it right back to 13 here at the free throw line Lucas Morgan is the team's second leading score at 13 and a half per game started 33 this season plays 24 minutes a game shoots some 53% from the floor Despite only shooting 20% from three really odd numbers there

Then he's 80% from the free throw line, which he misses that one.

Husky's able to keep an eye on what it does in following that missed free throw.

Kepgezek out and Smith in.

Jesse's time is going to be managed very closely here after being ill yesterday and part of this trip in general.

Tipped away and stolen.

Here's Prosser.

Racing down the floor, gets it over for Desmond who lays it up and in.

Victor Desmond.

And the fast break there working out off the turnover for Gannon.

Back up to 14.

Nate Abel in the backcourt ahead for Fernholz.

Nearly lost it over for Abel.

Now down low.

This is Nordgaard.

Back out for Fernholz.

Launches from distance.

It's short tipped around and nearly taken by Abel.

Goes to the floor trying to get it.

Prosser inside.

Reverse lay no.

Desmond no.

Lucas Morgan yes.

Inbound at Tamashik.

Catches, spins.

Little pause.

And then down low, wide open layup.

Nate Abel finishes.

53-39 as we near the halfway mark of the second half.

Gannon has led for pretty much the entirety of this game and most of it by double figures.

Crosser for Desmond.

Against Nordgaard he slips and falls down and the Huskies are gonna get a foul as a result Try to use Nordgaard as a Crutch there backing into the lane and as he loses his footing Nordgaard was Backing out and down he went Dawson's gonna pick up the foul.

It's his third Ten points for Nordgaard so far and this game is to mash it coming out

And Tarion was coming back in for him.

Meanwhile, Jesse Napgezek will return for Dawson Nordgaard.

9.54 to go here.

Down low, Sarver had it tipped away.

And it will stay.

Gannon basketball.

Inbound from that offensive baseline, same spot.

Different play, Sarver gets the lay-in.

Almost for the dunk, but laid up just a little bit, and then it bounced around the rim for a moment before finally dropping through.

Huskies pestered by this full court pressure again.

Ahead, Nap Gezik.

Nap Gezik gets bumped to the sidelines, and another foul is going to be called.

And that foul, I think, is going to go on Lucas Sacasi.

It's going to be his first, and it's now in the penalty for Gannon.

So Jesse Nepkezik will go back to the free throw line here for the Huskies.

And the true freshman from Lhasa, Wisconsin.

This is the front end.

Tough day there for Jesse, certainly.

At the line, he's missed all of three of his attempts.

They get all five of his attempts, sorry, at the line.

Down low, they find a man open.

It's Kemp.

He can't finish, though, and rebound is Tarion.

Nabgezek gets to the baseline.

Outside, Abel is open for three.

It is no good.

The rebound swooped in and stolen away by Victor Desmond.

Sakasi.

A little floater for Desmond at the free throw line.

He goes the dribble, spins against Gabe, lost the dribble, goes in for Idiaru, banks it off high glass.

And it was a 10 point game, is back to 18.

Huskies have missed a couple of tries down the offensive end here.

And have been unable to stop Gannon defensively since he last talked about him.

Nate Abel.

Off for Terri in front of the Husky bench for Fernholz, Ty misses the three and it's recovered by Desmond.

And the shooting percentage starting to drop again here for Michigan Tech and elevating for Gannon.

Nights up to 50%, Husky's down near 40 in this half.

Idyaru looking downloads, capped away by Terri and nice play by Josh.

Husky's still gonna have to help.

Napgezik.

Pushed up for Nate.

Nate gets to the free throw line.

Looking for somewhere to go here, down to Gabe.

Smith looking against Kemp, gets to the left side, pumps a couple times, misses in, is fouled on the play by Kemp.

And will have another timeout on the floor here with 7.49 remaining in the second half.

Oski will have Gabe Smith going to the free throw line trailing 57.39 with 7.49 to go in the second half.

with

seven forty nine to go in the second half Huskies have a tough hill to climb not sure it's the Duquesne incline the Huskies got to go up yesterday thirty degree incline there along the tram taking us up to team dinner yesterday unique hundred plus years old

but down by 18 was 749 to go a Tough Hill nonetheless, you know, it's interesting as we're looking at the geography of downtown Pittsburgh some of it can remind you the Houghton Hancock areas the side like I just mentioned a 30 degree incline from where our hotel area was at near the One of the rivers cutting through Pittsburgh going up to the top Brandview Avenue So water and bridges most bridges

in the metro area of downtown Pittsburgh.

There were 400 of them crossing spans.

The very blue collar area of course is Pittsburgh known for the steel workers and they certainly lean into that with architecture, business names and just the way things operate down here.

They've been a great host for us.

Gabe Smith misses the free throw.

It's been a bit of a trend amongst the Huskies today who are under 40% of the free throw line this afternoon.

Jesse Nepgezik's missed all five of his attempts.

And now Gabe, unfortunately, he's missed all of his attempts as well.

That is five of them as well.

Shooting the Huskies in the foot.

Gabe does get a block out of bounds as Lucas Secasi going to the basket.

Rejected 24 on the shot clock.

Easy inbound Mason Kemp from the corner for three is no good Josh Terry and good box out lead ahead for Nordgaard Dawson gonna take you to the rack and lay it up right off the glass right side Nordgaard with a another basket for his day He's the Huskies leading scorer It's got a dozen As the Cossie at the top of the key to the right side Lucas Morgan

Driving in against Tarion, double team comes.

It leaves and Nordgaard with a block on Mason Kemp, ball loose underneath, and it's Husky basketball.

Good double help there with Dawson Nordgaard and only a quick step away from Mason Kemp.

So when the ball went over there, able to make a quick turn to his right with one step, getting good defense on the play.

Husky's gonna need some more stops like that.

and a little bit of help on the offensive side as the ball goes in.

Low for Nordgaard.

Does collect for Tamashik.

Marcus stops.

Goes back for Abel.

Man hits the floor.

It's Dawson.

Back for Tamashik.

Deep shot.

No good.

Rebound and it's a foul on the rebound.

Looks like Tarion.

Idearu's going to be the man fouled on the play.

Just two on Josh.

Huskies have five team follows now under seven minutes to play.

Sakasi will have a defensive matchup against Nordgaard.

Now they'll zone it up a little bit more here.

Off to the corner, Sakasi against Nordgaard, drives in, fakes one way, fakes the other, and eventually got Dawson moving enough.

to allow that 6'10 length to not be a factor, and he got around him.

Ahead for Gabe Smith, driving right hard to the basket, misses an in-close bucket, and the rebound for Prosser.

Down low they go, Sakasi outside.

The baseline, Sarver loses it, taken away by Gabe.

Ahead for Abel, who got clipped in the face, you can hear it right at our crowd mic as Pace Prosser.

Trying to steal it away.

Clips.

Able along the way.

Right on the sidelines here.

And an eighth team foul.

Ninth team foul now on Gannon.

Will send Nate Able to the free throw line for the final one and one.

Nine fouls now for Pace Proster.

That's two personals on him.

Huskies will get Nordgaard off and bring in.

Ty Fernholz sure Dawson will be back on the floor here momentarily Give the big man a break and try to get some more offense out there But lo and behold Michigan Tech cannot hit another free throw Six of 18 from the free throw line It's not gonna get it done here for the Huskies today who shoot at least twice as good as that on a regular basis And if they did that it would be a much more manageable deficit, but right now down by 18

Sarver makes it 21.

Left wing three.

And Ahiva Head is into the Huskies bench.

Gannon fans make it plenty of noise behind their bench area.

And the Huskies dreams starting to go.

It's a high-powered Ganon squad here and Michigan Tech's offense just not able to match right now.

Crosser.

Looking to Sarver who manages to find it.

ID Aru to the basket, misses it, rebound Gabe Smith.

Tipped.

Josh Terrian said it was tipped.

And the Huskies are going to review it.

I mean, you have nothing to lose at this point with 4.56 to go.

It's going to be a big time possession.

And it looks like IDARU is the one that they say got a hand on it.

So they'll take a look at it.

And as we have a view of this, I'm going to give a quick shout out to my teammates working back at Midwest today.

Thanks to them for putting up with my extended absence here being gone with a basketball squad here for these last two weeks or so So thanks to Lexi and Tammy Tim and the rest of the crew over there at Midwest Letting me get to experience this elite 8 situation of the Huskies have found themselves in Fortunately things not looking bright for the Huskies right now with 456 to go 62

41 Huskies overall shooting percentage is just 28% and now 8 of 21 here in the second half 0 for 6 from the free throw line 6 of 18 total from the line and 14 Michigan Tech turnovers could be 15 Depending on the results of this review Officials are discussing the matter over by the monitor

Tough look though with Sakasi, excuse me IDR who's hand reaching out.

He's lengthy as well at six foot ten Josh Terrian was pretty convinced that it was out of bounds Last touched by Ganon immediately and Josh Bittner is gonna believe one of his senior captains

And they do call it successful, and it will be Husky basketball.

So smart challenge there by Josh Bittner.

He'll retain his challenge.

Good on Josh Tarion, seeing it.

And not just trying to convince his head coach, but just overall good communication there between the two.

Huskies though inbound with 26 on the shot clock.

We'll have to get across.

Half court soon.

And I believe the Huskies now going to take a timeout as Terry and couldn't find anybody to inbound to.

So we'll get the break.

Reminder that our second half is brought to you by Northern Michigan Land Brokers called 906-523-5575 or visit online, NMLB host for all of your real estate needs.

Yanbound to Fernholz, Husky's gonna have to hustle it ahead here.

As Abel will cross half-court with 22 on the shot clock.

It is Abel.

Spinning around, getting into the lane, stopping, fading on his own jump shot.

It goes in and out, no good.

Rebound though, Fernholz outside for Smith.

Back for Tamashik.

Marcus for Nate, he's gonna try a three-point shot, that's good.

Good offensive rebound and a...

much needed three for the Huskies.

They mentioned Nate's got a bit of an unusual spin, causing that first shot to miss, but sticking with it and getting back two at the Huskies.

Still down by 18, though, as we close in on four minutes remaining in the second half.

Morgan for Morgan, Mackenzie driving, and Tamasha gonna pick up a cheap hand check foul on the outside.

For Mark that's gonna be three I do believe and team six with four oh six to go here Smith's got three Abel's got three Terrians got two Nep Gezik's got three as he comes in along with Shminda Prosser gets the inbound for Ganon and they're gonna take some time Time gonna be an enemy of the Huskies here with under four to go

Crosser Into the lane stops double team and a foul is going to be called and it'll either be Smith or Tarion It's going to be Josh picking it up And now that's four on JT Making three they updated that scoreboard real fast seven on the Huskies so one and one coming up when we come back

again in 62 Michigan Tech 44 with 351 to go in the second half.

Pace Prosser will be at the free throw line for the Gannon Knights.

And he has been stellar from the line here today.

Now nine of nine.

Gannon as a whole.

Now 15 of 27.

Their percentage not the highest out there, but certainly better than that, but the Huskies have posted as Prosser gets both.

Most of his damages come from the free throw line here today Inbound goes to Nate Abel 350 to go here Huskies need a lot in a hurry gave from the corner for three.

It's good Gabe Smith not a big-time three-point shooter for the Huskies on the campaign on a timeout will be taken by Ganon as suddenly Michigan Tech has posed some full-core pressure

Gabe Smith this season came in at a robust six of 32 from three-point range on the year So again, that's not really part of his game as of yet 19% shooter from outside Buddy has it a couple of triples for Michigan Tech To help try and stay in the game Meanwhile for guys like

Marcus Tamashik game number 120 started for him today 124 overall 125 starts and games played for Josh Tarion 124 and 84 respectively for Nate Abel Dawson Nordgaard is 90th start 121 career games Looks like those numbers probably going to cap out there Nate Abel's got a

Career high of 17 points.

He's got 11 here today.

He's taken few threes and now Josh Terrian is going to pick up his fourth personal.

The most Nate has taken in a game this season is seven and he's matched that here today.

Most field goals he's taken in a game is 16.

He's got a ways to go for that.

And

for Terry and that's for Talking to Josh yesterday.

He's got his post basketball career lined up Working as a financial advisor near his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin As the free throw for Lucas

Morgan is good

Certainly for Josh, he's been one of the fun players to watch for the Huskies

An emotional leader, defensive leader.

Offensively through his years, he's contributed just shy, or just over 500 career points.

Not a huge number for somebody with as many games played and starts as he does, but he fills in where needed.

It's been a great piece to this Husky puzzle for the last four years building.

The snap gezik on the baseline lays it up too hard.

Left side of the lane drive there.

He's fouled by Lucas Sacasi And Jesse nap Gezik who has not found his free throw shooting stroke like he had the rest of the NCAA tournament back to the line here woes continue I Don't know what I've seen the huskies ever shoot like this on the free throw line in a game

So far 0 for seven from the free throw line this half And mercifully Jesse hits his first and the team's first this second half 66 48 313 to go Huskies with some full court pressure here Off into the corner here, and they're gonna use some time as they can down low for Morgan work back around pace processor lines up a triple try that's good

Lights flickering for the Huskies here as Gabe Smith down low outside for an apkezik Jesse briefie drives left side lay up and another foul is called on Sakasi and Gannon Not happy with the foul call That's three and apkezik back to the line Jesse's got a bright career ahead of here for the Huskies

Playing in game 35 of the season here.

He's seen his usage go up generally here in the postseason though today again More along lines with his regular season average and Jesse frustrated at the free-throw line missing another one One of eight from the free-throw line and you can tell that It'll be a lack of practice the last couple days and the illness that's been bothering him here still lingering enough

Makes the second of the free throws and he'll sub out Alex Calcuttaire is gonna sub in here for the Huskies first time today and He will replace Jesse defensively Matchmind out there for the Huskies as well Up ahead Prosser as they break the press For Mackenzie Morgan who's not had a lot of second half time here due to his foul trouble

Gannon's gonna work some clock, Hussegis look like they're gonna let him.

Two and a half though to still go as Proser gets inside with nine.

And he throws one up and draws a foul.

And he will try to continue his perfect day at the line where he's been 10 for 10.

For Schmeinde that's his first personal here on the day Huskies with nine as the front end is good Furnholes in Terry and out Drew Barry will come in for Gabe Smith And I will see if the Huskies are gonna get the seniors out for another quick run to get them a round of applause here before Their careers come to an end

They've been through battles with this Michigan Tech team for four years as Proster gets another Some of the lean years in their freshman and sophomore campaigns to a nice birth in the NCAA tournament last year to an elite eight appearance this year This group has done some impressive things with Michigan Tech basketball

Despite what today's final results might show, as Morgan harassed by Shminda, Huskies might clear the bench instead.

And there's gonna be a foul.

Nope, time out.

Violation of some kind here, I didn't really get a good look at what the call was

against.

Nate Abel is going to check

out.

Peyton Lacombe will check in for the Huskies.

First appearance here today, eighth of the season.

He was injured for a good portion of the year.

And now all the Husky starters are currently out as also coming in for Tech is Luke Hazleton and an offensive foul called.

Surprised that Coach Bittner hasn't gotten that starter senior group back in to get around.

As Lacombe picks up the foul, Gannon's going to sub out some of their guys.

Looks like we might have seen the end of Middlest Michigan Tech senior class with 143 to go.

Calloway in the backcourt here for Gannon, we'll work it across.

Sarver

and

Calloway again in front of that Gannon bench.

Lucas Morgan guarded by Lacombe.

And Peyton putting in some good defense there, but a nice bank shot for Lucas Morgan.

And the Huskies will get it in here for Drew Barry, not as stifling of defense as we saw earlier, certainly at this point, although it is kept away.

And right in front of us here, Barry goes down.

And also his counterpart, Sakasi went down.

More subs for Gannon.

See Julian Rivera in the game for the first time.

Also Jack Burchard into the game for the first time.

Alex Calcuttaire will get it in here for Hazelton, back for Alex.

One minute remaining in the regular, well in the campaign, not just regulation time, but in the season here.

As Calcuttaire goes to the dribble, turns, floats one with the left, it's wide left.

Rebound chase four, fought four and out of bounds.

Last touched by Rivera, will be Husky Ball.

Well, they're gonna look at it here.

Expedited review perhaps by the sidelines Let me not so expedited the whole crew is not looking at it, but the sideline official is reviewing There's checking the shot clock apparently resetting it to four

So Calcuttaire will trigger in again here for the Huskies.

It is tipped.

Loose.

Schmeinde is going to heave one up for three.

It's no good.

Rebound Peyton Lecombe.

Tries to go back outside to Calcuttaire.

It's tipped around.

Rivera going to go all the way in.

Lay up with the left hand.

33.9 on the clock.

And they'll call off the full court pressure.

Schmeinde.

Close up a three, it's off to the left, and Gannon will grab the rebound, and that'll do it.

Only five points for Marcus Tamashek today, ending his career with over 2,450.

Nate Abel for the Huskies, chips in 11, 631 career points.

Josh Tarion scored only two, but 5-11 for him.

Dawson Nordgaard with a team height 12,923.

That's all there is.

There isn't any more.

And we hope to have head coach Josh Bittner join us soon for our post game interview.

I know he'll have NCAA responsibilities coming up soon as well.

So we hope to get him here as soon as we can after addressing the team there post game.

Tough loss for the Huskies 75 49 and and ultimately in the end were never really in it Unfortunately Ganon got out to an early lead and then turned into a double figures and never really looked back Husky shooting just 28.6% from the floor here today 9 of 35 from Three-point range

8 of 22 from the free throw line You know that 36% from the free throw line is perhaps the most alarming stat of them all Just a uncharacteristic of the Huskies and the shoot 28% obviously is not

ideal either.

But for Gannon, 43.6% held to just below their season average, 7 of 17 from 20 of 32 from the free throw line.

43 rebounds, evens Michigan Techs.

Huskies offensively out rebounding them 16 to 11.

12 assists for both teams.

17 bench points for GU.

Huskies with three blocks.

Five steals from Michigan Tech to seven for Gannon.

So they handle the pressure okay.

Turns the ball over 16 times.

Points in the paint to end up really skewing towards Gannon in the end 28 to 14.

Second chance points.

Huskies 10 to eight.

Personal fouls.

Michigan Tech did not have anybody foul out though.

Josh Tarion got close.

He had four.

Three fouls each for Tamashik Smith Abel Nordgaard And let's see what else did we have here Dawson with a team high 12 points Nate Abel with 11 the only Huskies and double figures Fernholz got hot for a minute there in the first half scoring three Three-point shots for his nine Tamashik with five

Smith with six, Napgezek with four, two for Tarion.

Gabe with 12 rebounds, leading all players here today.

With five rebounds for Nate Abel, eight of them for Josh Tarion.

Nate also with four assists.

Tamashic playing 29 here, getting five points, two of 14 shooting one of 10 from three, and I know for

Marcus battling a lot of different ailments throughout the course here of this postseason.

And certainly today was not his day to shoot.

He tried, he gave it everything he had, certainly putting it all on the floor as you'd expect, but just wasn't his day for that.

Jesse Nepgezik putting an 18.

They get 15 minutes.

Just not there for them today.

We'll take a quick timeout, pick a superior player of the game, and hopefully have Josh Bittner coming up in just a few minutes here on MIX 93.

Our Superior Player of the Game Award is sponsored by Superior National Bank.

Thanks to them for their long-term support here of Michigan Tech Athletics as well.

And today that award is going to go to Dawson Nordgaard.

12 points, four of eight from the floor, four of five from the free throw line.

Four rebounds of steel for Dawson today in 22 minutes for the Huskies.

He was almost the exclusive amount of offense that they had for a portion of that first half.

Really difficult to find ways to score and Dawson was able to do that here today for at least a period of time And he will be our superior national bank superior player of the game head coach Josh Bittner now with us here on the post game show It's brought to you by fine line tire and Hancock fine line tire express in Houghton where we serve you the guests and coach a tough way to To end the game or to end the season here just the the offense just wasn't there for you at the start of the game and

It never really was discovered as the game went along.

First off, lots of credit again.

I mean, they're a really good team.

This isn't excuses.

This isn't anything.

I mean, when a team is going to switch all screens and pressure like they are, I mean, our two guys that we need to beat that kind of defense are Marcus and Jesse right now.

Neither one of them probably should have been playing.

I mean both of them I'm looking in their eyes and I know they gave us everything they absolutely could today and I mean Jesse hasn't left his bed since Monday morning and Marcus hasn't really moved since Sunday morning and they both got it out and played and it could be a little bit on me for trying to rely on them too much but against the team at that level there's only so much the rest of our guys can do to create this advantage as we try to go to dodge a bit and

We were struggling with that.

And in the grand scheme of things, I liked a lot of what we did.

I mean, we turned it over some, but I think we turned it over less than most teams.

We struggled on the glass a little bit, but I think we competed probably better than most teams.

And I mean, going into that last couple of minutes, we still had them in the 60s.

If you can't score 70 points in an elite eight game, you're not going to win.

And we didn't make many threes.

We had an historically bad day from the free throw line.

You're just not going to beat a team like Ganon if you don't make some shots and get some things done.

We'll start with those positives on that defensively.

You hold a team that scored 100 points or more 13 times this year.

Their lowest was, I think, 73 points once.

But otherwise, this team scores so much.

So what worked for you defensively that was able to keep you guys in the game?

I don't even know if it was anything that worked.

I think we're that good defensively.

And I know the score is going to look at it that we didn't compete there.

I mean we had a couple tough breaks in the game on on some situations and and honestly We got we try to guard to the earth I'm not gonna say if we keep our our top five in there that we keep them under 72 probably hold them to the lowest they've been all year and and I think that's a testament to our defense but our Achilles heel on on the other side of the ball came up and we rely heavily on Marcus and When we didn't have him at

Even close to full strength there.

I mean it was tough and We really really struggled to score and that's been our Our problem and in every game we've lost this year

Gabe Smith did a nice job helping break that press again He grabs 12 rebounds for your team here today.

It's a couple of three-point shots, you know We've seen his game progress and we know that he's got more Still left in him as his career continues.

I mean Gabe still has the highest ceiling of anybody in the country.

I mean

If he becomes a consistent shooter and keeps working on his handle and we can get him with the post game I mean the future is really really bright for game

Last thing in particular on this game here.

You touched on it Historically bad free throw shooting.

I don't know that I've ever seen a Michigan Tech team miss free throws the way that you guys here did today And it's just one of those things where it's

I don't know if it's just snowballed on guys.

I mean, I know Jesse obviously fighting through it today, having a hard time at the line at two for nine, but those points would have been big to keep you a little bit closer.

No,

for sure.

The snowball effect is something we always talk about.

Shootings contagious.

I mean, in the Walsh game, Marcus comes out and bangs a couple and gives everybody confidence.

When he comes out and misses and a couple other guys don't get him, obviously we're going to struggle.

So I want to touch on each one of these seniors a little bit here We'll start with Marcus just what is Marcus meant to you here as a coach?

I mean everything and it's I Told him four years ago that I believed he could be an all-american a player and we could win a championship with him and he believed in me and and When we were struggling when they were young my only question was always you still believe and and he did and that Parts huge

made able

Nate transformed his game as much as anybody has ever seen.

He came in as a scorer and he became what I thought was the best defender in the league this year.

He did whatever it take to play and to win.

Didn't care about the glory and worked as hard as he could every single day in practice for five years.

Josh Terrian.

Terrian's been the hardest soul of this group.

I mean, he was the guy we couldn't take off the court forever.

raises the level of every single practice.

He's just unbelievable.

And lastly Dodge.

Dawson's special.

I mean he's come so far from where it was he was barely getting recruited by a lot of the D3s and he ends up being a first team all-conference player.

I mean he was an aircraft carrier before he plays hard and he was terrific.

So this

is a special group.

We're sad to see them go.

We know we've got a bright future ahead of us.

I know that they're hustling on over to the NCAA media sections there, but coach, thank you for your time, your generosity and your help all season long.

Alright, I really appreciate Suzanne and the administration for helping make all this possible, getting us to Florida.

All the fans, all the people, it's been crazy.

Everybody that's gotten behind this group and it's greatly appreciated.

Thanks coach.

We'll talk to you again soon.

Alright.

Head coach Josh Bittner on our post game show here.

Fine Line Tire in Hancock in Houghton where they serve you the guest.

Well, the Huskies gave

it a lot of effort here today.

Certainly not the way they would have liked to end things.

Marcus getting beat up there a little bit towards the end of the season.

But what can you say about what he's given this team for 125 games?

Second all-time leading scorer at Michigan Tech and all-American more than once.

All conference, all region more than once.

His accolades, you can read them all.

Matt will have that in the post game right up and on the various articles at MichiganTechHusties.com.

You can certainly look at the various posts for those as well.

We talked about what Nate and Josh and Dawson have brought.

Over these years as well and it sucks to see it end 36 games I think the most the Huskies have played in a single season over a thousand minutes for some of those guys This year Coming into today's game Marcus at over a thousand so did Nate's Over 750 Josh with over 900 This season it's it's been crazy to see what these guys have done and how they've evolved and and it'll be

Great to see them move on to the next stage of their careers knowing what Marcus has potentially overseas to continue his basketball career.

Josh has got his job lined up.

I'm sure Nate being the business major he has already has things going as well and Dawson Nordgaard too.

We'll get ready for another season next year with what should be another highly competitive team.

We saw what this team can bring off the bench and what's going to be coming in soon.

for the Huskies in terms of a recruiting class.

Don't be surprised that this team shows up here again.
