Data Center Dilemma: Wisconsin’s Environmental Challenge

There is growing concern over a proposed AI data center in Wisconsin Rapids in Wood County. Neighbors packed a public meeting about the project worried about environmental impacts like energy demand and water consumption.  New York-based property developer PNK Group is pushing to build the data center along the Wisconsin River where a paper mill used to operate. Few details about the project have been released. A new study shows about only about half of us check the water quality before heading to swim or boat on the Great Lakes. Checking beach water quality online can alert you to dangers you can’t see – like E. coli contamination. Compared with other age groups, people 55 and older had the lowest likelihood of checking water quality before entering the water.
