As Canadian oil giant Enbridge trenches and blasts its way across Wisconsin’s Northwoods to make way for its new Line 5 oil pipeline, they've hit a setback for the Michigan section of the pipeline. The Michigan Supreme Court has struck down permits for the company to tunnel under the straits of Mackinac. The Michigan Public Service Commission, which granted the permits, will need to re-do its analysis, a process that took years the first time around.
A legal blow to the Trump Administration’s effort to avoid implementing new soot pollution air quality standards. A US district court ruled the EPA must follow the law and implement health-based standards the agency adopted in 2024. The new standards for harmful soot pollution would save more than 4,000 lives per year.
