Got a whole bunch of new movies opening up this weekend.
And let's start with Resident Evil.
Now, this is a franchise and it's a very popular one.
So let's talk about that.
Well, it has been a franchise, but this is not a continuation of the earlier Resident Evil movies that starred Mila Jovovich.
This introduces new characters, has a new original story, and director Zach Crager, who was part of Barbarians, who was part of Weapons, which was excellent last year.
He is at the helm for this one.
And there are some very good things here for horror fans or just thriller suspense fans.
It's rated R, but let me tell you, the critics are given a 96 percent.
Audiences are given a ratings in the 90s.
It looks absolutely awesome on screen.
And here is the plot.
Austin Abrams stars as Brian.
He's an ordinary medical courier who accepts an additional assignment to a place called the Raccoon City.
And what begins the return trip turns into a fight for survival as a viral outbreak sends the city collapsing into chaos around him.
Resident Evil, it is frightening.
It is amazing with Zach Crager at the helm.
And as we mentioned, Zach Crager is an amazing director.
I absolutely love barbarian weapons.
And in this one, you'll find he directed this one with a lot of practical effects.
In fact, one key fact is he used this enormous puppet creature that weighed over 2,000 pounds to create one of the effects.
And this will be the weekend.
biggest new wide release and will be number one at the box office.
Now, is it are people going to think this is a continuation of the franchise or people who watch this movie know it already?
Well, I think there's enough out there and there's enough buzz, especially around Zach Greger when he was announced to do this, but it is not a continuation of all of the movies you've seen before.
It is a new kind of starting of Resident Evil and it's spectacular.
Everyone's going to enjoy it.
This is their thing to go see.
Now I told my wife the next movie we're going to talk about is one I really want to see because I like the premise of this film.
It's called The Weight.
Yeah, we had this as one of our mystery movies a few weeks back and it did very, very well.
It is rated R and the Rod and Tomatoes scores on this one is 92% plus.
It stars Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe.
And here's what's about it set during the Great Depression, 1933.
And Ethan Hawke is this man called Samuel Murphy.
He's a struggling father who was sent to work
in an Oregon work camp after an altercation.
And the warden, who's played by Russell Crowe, offers him this dangerous opportunity.
Transforged port achievement of stolen gold through the wilderness in exchange for early release and a chance to reunite with your daughter.
And of course, there's all kinds of conflicts that goes into that.
But the movie itself, as I mentioned, was a mystery movie forested very well.
It premiered at the 2026
Sundance Film Festival before was at the Berlin International Film Festival and Ethan Hawke's performance is being praised as one of the best of his career.
So it's really interesting and yeah, it's really unique for this one.
So check it out, Ethan Hawke, Russell Crowe, the movie's the way it's rated R and it's just a great kind of drama film for people to go see.
I like those depression era movies.
I like it because I didn't have to live during it, so I like to see how other people did.
92% rotten tomatoes.
It doesn't get much better than that.
It can say, well, yeah, very rarely do you get higher than 92%.
That's pretty good.
That is critics consensus.
I mean, you look at that, you look at, you got 96% for resident evil, 92% for the way it's all kind.
You've got another one coming up, which actually right now has a better rating, but we'll get to that in a
second.
Okay.
Daniel and the fiery furnace.
This is on a must-see list.
We love these faith-based movies, my wife and I. This is a biblical movie.
I know the whole story because I read the Bible.
So I know the story and I want to see it on the screen.
Yes, this is the biblical epic of Daniel.
It is companions as they're taken from Jerusalem and brought into court of King Nebuchadnezzar.
And the story is primarily from the opening chapters of the book of Daniel.
Um, and Daniel sent the story, although if we know the story, it is his companions, Shadrach, Nisek, and Abednego, who were actually thrown into the fiery furnace.
And
come
out and come out of
it.
I don't want to ruin the
story, but they come
out of
the
furnace.
Well, I'm not just spoiling it, God.
Yes.
So it's a based movie here rated PG-13.
Obviously there's some violence and some things like that.
But Danny and the fiery furnace, it doesn't have a Rod Nato's rating as of right now.
So we'll see what goes on there, but that is out for this weekend.
Yeah.
We want to see that movie.
I hope it's good because I know I'm ruining it.
I mean, we all know the story.
At least most people know the story and we know how it comes out.
But I'd like to see it on the screen.
Sean The Sheep.
This guy has a following Sean The Sheep.
So stop motion.
Animation, this one's called The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
That's right.
PG for some mild scary action.
This was another one of our mystery movies.
We had this last Sunday for a family edition mystery movie.
People loved it.
It was delightful.
And this is actually the third full-length Sean The Shade movie.
So we've seen these things before.
It's brought to you by Arden Animations, they're the stop-motion studio behind Wallace and Gromit at Chicken Run, and of course the Sean The Sheep movies.
And in this one, the residents of Massey Bottom Farm are preparing for Halloween.
When a farm rat suddenly destroys the fox pumpkin patch, so Sean, the sheep, decides to use signs to repair the damage, but his experiment quickly goes wrong and soon the farmer is missing and a mysterious hairy beast is roaming the deer by woods and frightening villagers.
a delightful movie here.
And we talked about the ride of a score as of this morning, Sean the sheep, the beast of Massey bottom has a 100% rating around tomatoes.
And that isn't just one, two, three critics.
That's 44 have all agreed so far.
So a hundred percent right now for Sean the sheep, the beast of Massey bottom.
Um, these are really interesting pictures.
If you watch them because
The story is sold with such a lab, but it's not in motion detail, but it's done almost entirely without spoken dialogue, and that's the most interesting thing.
So it's a lot of physical comedy that goes on, but I find myself watching for about a half an hour straight and not even realizing there wasn't any dialogue because you're just captivated the whole way through.
So these have a history, show on the sheet, The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
It will be great for families this weekend.

You know, they say, you know, sometimes, you know, a movie is long and it's not good.
It was extra long.
But there are some movies that are really good and they are extra long.
Lifehack.com put together a list of movies that are really long in no particular order that are really good.
It's a good list here.
Titanic ran three hours and 14 minutes.
I didn't realize it was that long.
Back from the 60s, the big Cinerama movie, it's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.
Three hours, 22 minutes.
That's one of my favorites.
Anatomy of a Murder with James Stewart.
From 1959 two hours 40 minutes and back then they didn't make dramas that long as a courtroom movie The godfather 2 you know how long godfather 2 was this surprised me.
I thought it was like two and a half hours to 45 Three hours 22 minutes The lord of the ring return of the king three hours 20 minutes Lawrence of Arabia three hours and 47 minutes and One of the kingpans gone with the wind.
How long do you think gone with the wind
was?
It's over three, right?
Oh, yeah.
15 or so?
No, it's four minutes short of four hours.
Oh, gosh.
And, you know, you guys ran it a couple of years ago.
I went with my mother and my wife, we said, gone with the wind.
They ran it on the big screen with the overture, the intermission, the horrors.
Four hours.
And the intermission, you know, normally during an intermission back in the day, they used to stop the movie and you got out there for 20 minutes.
Your intermission was just as long as the return music, you know, the end track music.
And it was only like a minute or two people were leaving and they didn't realize it's not a 20 minute of intermission It's only like a minute or two But they ran out got their candy the movie was back on gone with the wind for hours and you know what it's worth it I love that movie
and I would like to tell everyone we are actually bringing it back to the screens in October Oh really October 10th through 14th
we will have it at select theaters, so check that out.
Well, October 10th to 14th, select theaters, we will bring, go on with the win back in spectacular fashion.
And sure enough, rated G, three hours, 57 minutes is the runtime I got on my screen.
There you go.
Yep.
Yeah, so make sure you go to the bathroom before the movie starts because it's a long wait until the end of the movie.

Did you know the MGM lion, the original MGM lion is buried in New Jersey.
He's buried on the front lawn of the man who trained him.
Whoa.
You'll have to bury lions on your front lawn?
I guess so.
Especially in New Jersey, yeah.
I want to, I think I want to save this one.
This one's really amazing.
It really got me.
There's a movie coming out, Ozzy and Black Sabbath, back to the beginning, hitting theaters worldwide, October 28th, tickets go on sale on the 24th next week.

It is at the South Journal Creek and is at the Ridge in New Berlin.
So.
Go check this movie out.
It is spectacular.
And we just had it as our Monday night mystery movie.
A lot of mystery movies here that you could see as well.
Again, audiences love this picture during our mystery movie.
So we're giving you a chance to see it again.
It is that, like I said, South Shortle Creek, Ridge, New Berlin, and Gurney, and Gurney, Illinois.

They're the animation department behind the Puss in Boots movies for DreamWorks.
And this is a really neat movie because it's an animated movie.
It's set in the Philippines in the 1990s, and the movie follows the lifelong best friends as they prepare to go separate paths at their high school.
And of course, on the night before they're supposed to leave, they are magically transported to a magical island.
And this is a place where visitors gradually lose their memories.
Wonderful, wonderful animation in this one.
I actually saw the picture way back in spring at CinemaCon.
I loved it.
I've been dying to tell people about it.
We've had people see it in our mystery movie.
So a really fun movie here.
So there's a chance to go see it early this Sunday and go check that out.
And what's it called again?
It is called Forgotten Island.
You know, you talk about losing memory.
I mean, that's me now, and I'm not even on Forgotten Island.
I mean, I walk into a room and say, what am I doing in here?
I walk out 20 minutes later.
Oh, yeah, I remember what I was doing in there.
All right, let's talk about the mystery movie.
Now, this is where you go into the movie and you don't know what you're going to see.
And sometimes it's the biggest hit of the year and you just don't know it.
Let's talk about this.
That's right and I've been talking about that throughout our talk today about all these great movies that have been mischievous and our next one coming up is this Monday September 21st It is at 7 p.m.
And the only thing I can tell you about it is it's rated PG 13 So this Monday September 21st 7 p.m.
It's rated PG 13.
I know the price is only six dollars
So it is a fantastic price, a fantastic opportunity.
And you're going to see the movie early before we show it to anyone else.
So that's the great thing about this.
And this is just fun.
This is fun for dates.
This is fun just to go out with friends.
There's all this speculation around what movie could it be, what's going up.
And there's great anticipation.
And then of course, you get to see a great movie.
at a great price as well.

This week in movie history, Blue Velvet came out, 40th anniversary.
This was one of those David Lynch movies that was really mysterious.
Yeah, it was.
40 years ago, it started Kyle McClacklin as a college student.
He discovers this human ear in a field and comes drawn to disturbing secrets hiding beneath the surface of this hometown.
Now, David Lynch received the Academy Award for Best Director for this film.
Laura Dern was in the movie.
She was only 19 and the topper was in it and.
His performance, they said, was one of the most unsettling of the 1980s.
This is really interesting, and I'm always on the fence about David Lynch films, because the movie, when it was originally out, generated walkouts and refund requests, but now considered one of Lynch's most defining films.
I'll tell you this much.
I'm one that has a hard time understanding David Lynch films, at the very least, under the first
the first watch.
I'm always trying to figure them out.
They are a bit confusing, but this was one of his best and obviously had a lot of notoriety and he won the Academy Award for it.
So that's Blue Velvet and turning 40 actually, September 19th.
So tomorrow it turns 40.
And that's nothing to do with the Bobby Vitton song at all.
Nothing whatsoever.
Wasn't one of his first films a racer head?
Remember that movie?
I think that was a David Lynch movie.
It was kind of a, I think in the 70s it came out, a racer head.
And I'm pretty sure that was one of his.
All right, next movie up on the anniversary list, a very, very funny movie with a wonderful cast, The First Wives Club.
Very funny.
Yeah, 30th anniversary.
So on Sunday, this one turns 30 years ago.
And what a great premise.
And at Goldie Hahn, Bette Miller and Diane Keaton, they start as college friends who reunite after the death of mutual friend.
And they realized that all three have been abandoned by their husbands for younger women and they decide to turn their anger into forms of revenge.
Well, here's what's interesting.
The film opened up at number one, remained there for three consecutive weekends.
It ended up being one of 1996's biggest surprise hits and earned over 181 million dollars worldwide.
And of course, a performance of You Don't Own Me.
And that became one of the most famous scenes during that one.
So as you mentioned, you like it.
I, I enjoy the film and these ladies are tremendous.
Yeah.
They all came out of white outfits.
I remember and sang that song, you don't own me.
Yeah.
That was a good movie.
And they get even with their husbands too, which was really good.
All right.
The Fisher King 35 years.
I remember this film.
I don't remember if I liked it or not, but I remember when it came out with Jeff Bridges.
Yeah, so it opened up again December, September 20th.
So on Sunday it would turn 35.
Jeff Bridges started this one.
He was a former radio personality and he had all this guilt after an on-air comment contributes to tragedy and in this life he met Terry and as a homeless man played by Robin Williams who's searching New York City for what he believes is the Holy Grail.
So a really interesting movie here is directed by Terry Gilliam.
who was a member of the Monty Python comedy group.
So it ended up receiving five Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for Robin Williams and Mercedes Rule won the Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actress.
So it's interesting because it remains the only Terry Gilliam movie directed by him to win an Academy Award, but certainly another great movie from them.
That's the Fisher King 35 years.
Some wonderful films and family in history that were released in September quite some time ago.
Oh, I didn't realize it was up for that many Academy Awards.
Well, all right, let's get some movie facts for you here.
The Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie broke all records worldwide.
Let's talk about that.
Well, yeah, so last weekend was a little bit of disappointing news for Spider-Man brand new day because after six weekends, the number one, it was finally displaced from the top of the box office by Practical Magic 2.
But just a few days later, Spider-Man captured a much larger record.
After 47 days in theaters, it reached over $936 million in North America.
It passed Star Wars, The Force Awakens.
It became the highest grossing movie in domestic box office history.
And of course, it is still going strong right now.
It is still going to earn money this weekend.
So we'll see how high they can get.
really interesting about the fact that Spider-Man, it was one of the success stories of this summer, as well as the Odyssey and poor Odyssey there.
It made over $600 million for Christopher Nolan.
And he releases his movie with Spider-Man brand new day is the number one movie of all time.
But both of those movies did very, very well.
Both Spider-Man and the Odyssey contributed to great success.
So I'm thinking that the Kyrie versus Acme still has a chance at top Spider-Man.
It still has a chance.
I mean, you may not think it has a chance, but I think it does.
You never know.
Maybe all some people will wake up and say, I want to see that 10 times.
Coyote versus Acme.
You never know.
