The Calendar Is Packed—Here’s What’s Coming

Let's say good morning to Jocelyn Fish.

She is the, from the scene theater guild, the director of marketing and development.

And we thank you for coming in this morning.

Yeah, thanks for having me.

Great.

I'm glad you're here

because you've got a

lot to talk about, including a brand new show.

And this is not the first Packers themed show you've done.

Dad's season tickets, season tickets, it opens up this Friday.

And yes, we do have a pair to give away in later on in the hour.

But dad's season tickets, it's a Packer based show.

Yeah.

And it's it's very true.

What you talk about the plot.

So it is a musical comedy about Frank Kaczynski, who has season tickets to the Green Bay Packers.

And as we know here in Wisconsin, that is a very coveted and very.

Limited supply because they are there are generations of people that have those tickets So he is trying to decide which one of his daughters is going to inherit his season tickets.

He's writing his will and a lot of fighting ensues a lot of comedy ensues a lot of Jokes that everyone if you know the Packers or if you know football you'll get but there's also so much about family dynamics and so much about

the relationships between sisters and dads and brothers-in-laws and all this to enjoy in this show.

And the set and the costumes are, of course, Packers are plastered all over to show that true, true fandom that we all have.

It could have been a Dateline episode, you know, where they kill each other for fabricators.

Oh,

gosh.

No, no, no.

It's not quite

there.

There is quite a bit of... I have all sisters, and the way that these sisters fight in the script is very familiar.

There are different ways that you get under each other's skin, and then you start to get very pointed.

You start to say what you really mean kind of idea, and they fight, they forgive, they learn that family...

is what's important in the scheme of things rather than the tickets themselves.

My old boss in Milwaukee is no longer with us, but he had season tickets and they were passed down from generation

to

generation.

Now, what do you want?

The family fortune?

I'm with the packing tickets because sometimes you can't get them sometimes.

No, no, the waiting list is incredibly long.

People put their children on it when they're born and they might not get them

at all.

Like he's three days old, put them on the

list.

No, that is what happens.

Oh, OK.

And this is not the first Packers themed show you.

Now, what was the one on Ice that I said?

Well, guys on Ice premiered up in Door County as well as the show premiered up in Door County.

Door County kind of is this hub for kind of Wisconsin themed musicals.

This is written by Matt Zambrowski.

It's the first time we're doing one of his shows.

I know he's also working on a show with the Milwaukee Rep right now called the MKE MVP, which is about the run up to the Bucks 2021.

uh, championship.

Uh, so, but we've also done in our history a show called Packer fans from outer space.

And then, of course, we did Lombardi a few years ago, too.

At the end, the cast came out and let us take pictures.

They all came

crying.

I took a picture.

I have it on my phone from

the

cast from Lombardi.

Yes.

What a great show

that was.

Yeah.

And did you, were you there one of the days we had Dave Robinson there doing a talk back?

I don't

after the show.

And so with this show, Friday night, opening night, we are going to have a little.

Opening night tailgating things.

There'll be some brat bites and cheese for people that attend opening night There will be a silent auction throughout the whole run of authenticated Packer gear people need some of that and then on the closing performance on Sunday, July 26th Gilbert Brown and Santana Dotson will be joining us starting at noon so people can come in and you don't necessarily have to have tickets

to that show to come and meet and greet with them, if you'd like.

The show that day will be at 2 p.m.

The play that goes wrong.

I've seen shows like this before.

Her layers, like, noises off and all those.

What's this one about?

Same thing?

So coming up in then in September would be, yes, the play that goes wrong, which is kind of the behind the scenes look at a very over the top farce of a show completely going to pieces.

We are going to start rehearsals for that actually on Monday, right after dad's tickets opened.

And the set falls apart, people get knocked unconscious.

The dead body moves across the stage, you know, all those funny little

things that just make an audience.

It really breaks the fourth wall for the audience and brings a good level of humor.

And it's a super popular show on Broadway right now.

And so we're very... Oh, it's on Broadway now?

Yeah.

And we're very excited to... How did you

get a show that's currently on Broadway?

You can do that sometimes depending on how long the rights have been available and such.

So,

yeah.

Usually, you know, like you can't get Hamilton.

You can't get shows like that.

All

right.

Well, that's great.

The play that goes wrong, September 11th through the 27th.

Then comes Angel Street.

And people say, well, I never heard of that.

You've heard of the movie, though.

Yes.

And we just found out Angel Street premiered as a play in 1941.

Three years later, the movie came out and the movie was

Gaslight

with Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer and Joseph Cotton and a teenager, Angela

Lansbury.

Yes.

He

said he was 18

years old.

I have something interesting here.

This is.

An analysis tracked Google search data to rank the most searched word definitions in the US so far in 2026.

The top one is gas lighting.

The second one is love and gas lighting.

There's the definition somehow if you've made it into the 2020s and you don't know this yet.

This is what it means.

A psychological manipulation over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own perception of reality, which is exactly what Ingrid Bergman went through.

Gaslight and that's where the term gaslighting comes from from the movie gas

lights.

So it's about a young woman Bella whose Husband is manipulating her quite throughout the whole show he he's going off and doing his own thing And every time he leaves the gas lights flicker and they're dim and she hears noises we won't tell you why though and and But he doesn't really leave the house and so she's she asked him about it and he's like what are you talking about?

Everything's fine.

Nothing happens.

And so it's based around the gaslight stimming is where that term comes from.

So it's really fascinating.

And

things start missing.

And he says, well, you put it here.

Right.

And she's starting to question

her own.

Yeah.

So it will be a really good psychological kind of thriller-ish.

So that's coming up in October.

Auditions for that will actually be in early September if people are interested in being in the production.

Angel Street was the original play and that's why you're calling it Angel Street in parentheses

Gaslight the title is weird like that.

Yeah.

Yeah, it's got that because it was a play first Yeah,

and now and then we know it is gaslight Jocelyn fishes here.

My mother, uh, says that she was quite a quote delirious with labor when she spelled

She couldn't wait five minutes and letting

makes me unique.

We talked about the first three shows.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is back.

Is back.

For a second run.

And this is the famous musical

with

Big Band Diary written by Ian Fleming, who wrote all the James Bond movies.

Yes.

How did this one get made?

Right?

And it's just such a fun show.

You know, you got the flying car, you've got the Baron and Baroness who are evil.

They have their henchmen.

And of course you have...

Mr. Potts and truly scrumptious.

Correcticus.

And his kids and the car, the iconic car.

So we had great time doing it last year.

We're bringing it back this December and those auditions will also be coming up in September.

Can't use the same people?

We have open auditions every time for a show.

So everyone who was in the show last year can audition

as well.

Oh, okay.

That's December 11th through the 20th.

It was a great show.

I'd love

to see it again.

God of Carnage coming in in January.

You know how you're complaining now it's 90 degrees outside when this show is running you won't be complaining about

90 degrees outside.

The great thing is we're building with heat and cold air so it'll be warm in the winter and cold in the summer.

What's

this one

about?

God of Carnage is a very biting comedy about two parents who kind of are

they know best of how to raise a child, and they're having an argument about whose son's at fault in a fight between their two sons.

And while you should parent this way, and you should do this with your child, and you should do that with your child, and it divulges into kind of a feral chaos, I guess, is the best way to describe it.

Everything slowly unravels as the neighborly decorum of it all gets thrown out the window.

Okay, the cottage.

I always love a comedy.

You guys are so good at those.

You're good at everything.

The comedies are really good there.

The cottage, what's that about?

That's in February 26th through March 14th.

That is a romantic comedy farce.

A couple is having their annual romantic rendezvous and the woman tells the guy that she's with.

I told my husband about us and it comes to be that

her husband has a lover and her lover has a lover and you know all this everyone's with someone else and it's mistaken identities and it's door slamming and it's who's with who and all this fun in and out of different doors and comedy and farce all on top of each other.

Wow for a minute there I thought it was another date line.

Right.

Hannah's suitcase comes in now we're talking April

April 9th through

18th.

Hannah's suitcase is based off the true story of a group of students that were at a Holocaust museum learning about the events around it and found this suitcase with the name Hannah Brady and the German word for orphan written on the side of it and they wanted to know what happened to Hannah and so it weaves the story of Hannah's life and these students learning about her

And that will be one of our outreach shows as well that schools will get to come see next year.

So I think it's a really Good bridge to build to help educate students about what the realities of the Holocaust were

as Hannah suitcase April 9th through the 18th and the big finale is May 21th through June 6th.

Yes, and this was a big Broadway show come

from a way based on a true event.

Also based on true event.

Yes.

So Come From Away is based off of September 11th, when all the air traffic to New York City was shut down, and most of the United States actually.

And so all these planes had to be rerouted places.

And this is the story of Gander Newfoundland, where this town of like 9,000 people, all of a sudden had 7,000 passengers from all over the world that they welcomed with.

Open arms and kindness and a really uncertain time For so many of them.

So it's just a beautiful beautiful story about humanity and how we can be kind and good

Yeah, and he said he loved it.

Yeah, wonderful story music to

Then I get my tickets.

I got a couple of weeks ago and I go into my phone and I put all the dates in there so I don't forget which ones were always the last weekend.

It's always a great show.

So again, for people just tuning in, what's it about?

It is about Frank Kosinski.

He has tickets and he's trying to decide to the Packers, trying to decide which one of his daughters is going to get them.

And it takes place actually during the 96, 97.

lead up to the Super Bowl, so it's a very prominent time of Packers history as well.

So it's a fun tie-in, of course, of the fandom of Packers in Wisconsin, but it's also a lot of comedy, a lot of great music, and a lot about family.

Oh, it's a musical.

Mm-hmm.

Musical comedy.

Well, there you go.

Now I just found out.

I didn't know there was music to it.

It's it's an excellent theater.

If you've never been to the Racine Theater Guild, it's a theater like a horseshoe shape.

Yeah,

stage not theater in the round horseshoe stage.

Yeah, what do you call a

thrust stage?

What they call and who I am a may whoever does the design work for the stage.

Yeah,

it's it's amazing.

I don't know how they do

it.

Yeah, that's building and you've got to

make it so it's multifunctional because there's no curtain that comes

down.

You could change everything.

The audience.

Yeah.

Yeah.

It's just really a good show.

The actors are great.

And it's just a great performance.

And the building itself is wonderful.

And I went to show at Fort Atkinson two weeks ago.

Yeah, fireside.

We saw a million dollar quartet.

Now they have it a little different.

That's a theater in the

round.

It's a full round.

And they have raising platforms and stuff like that.

Center of

the stage goes down.

So there's a basement.

They

could switch

and bring it back up again, which is kind of clever.

But the actors have to run up and down the aisles.

And

you do that too sometimes.

Actors have to go up and down the aisles.

And it was a great show, the Million Dollar Quartet.

That's a nice set.

We are so lucky in this state to have so many great

theaters.

Lots of great theater, lots of great

arts.

You've

got Milwaukee as the Skylight Opera Theater, which is not opera, it's like Broadway shows and so forth.

And here in Racine, we're so lucky to have the Racine Theater Guild and people like you and Doug and all the people that run it.

very devoted to it and it's been around for this is the what season?

89th.

89th season.

Whoa.

Yeah.

You know, the station celebrates 100 years this December 6th.

Yeah.

And it will have a whole big thing at the Racine Heritage Museum.

Oh, cool.

100 years.

Yeah.

And we were talking with the previous guest about Memorial Hall.

Oh,

sure.

And I said, think about this.

December 6th, 100 years ago, the first WRJM broadcast was at Memorial Hall.

Yeah.

December 6th, 1926.

Cool.

I mean, you're sitting in history.

There are only a couple of radio stations in America that are 100 years

old.

Yeah.

And you know, that's the same thing.

Our building at the Theatre Guild is 50 years old this year.

Yeah, because you were

somewhere else before.

Right.

Yeah.

We had a church on the quarter of High and Erie Street.

And so people talk about that being built and being part of that process.

And now we're still there in that spot 50 years later.

OK, so let's run through this real quickly.

The play came out in 1941, the movie 1944.

It feels like forever from here, but it will be here before we know.

When do

you start picking out the shows for the next season?

We'll probably have our first play meeting in August sometime for our 90th season.

Do you try to figure out which ones can we get our hands on?

Sometimes you look at, like, if there's new rights available for things.

Yeah, for sure.

It shows like Hamilton.

You'll think years.

If those rights are ever available for the general public, well, not general public, maybe, maybe regional theater at some point will be able to.

They are.

I do know they are working on producing a Hamilton high school version.

So are they really just to say,

yeah, my brother saw it on Broadway said, best thing you ever saw.

I saw the Disney.

I

wasn't impressed on this.

It's very hard to translate.

There is a reason we attend live theater.

Live theater is about the experience of sharing a moment with a fellow audience and the actors on stage.

It's very, very hard to capture that same energy on film.

Very hard.

or 100 years ago this December, WRJN had his first broadcast.

Wow.

100 years on December 6th, 1926.

We had our first broadcast at Memorial Hall.

The same exact building you're looking at now.

There's no difference.

Probably the same stage for all I know.

Oh, yeah.

And, man, we had an orchestra on stage, and that was the first time 100 years ago.

Wow.

Yeah.

A lot of us feel like, you know, we're trying to get up our backs hurt.

It's been 100 years.

We have a ton of events coming up and let's chat first what's going on right now.

Fish Fest, Salmonorama.

Oh, yeah.

We just had the folks in the other day.

Salmonorama going on and it's back on the Rotary Park grounds now.

Yeah.

So we actually have an event tonight with Salmonorama.

They're going all the way through Sunday.

If you come on down, we're going to have our racing's got talent broadcasting today.

So you'll see a lot of youth.

They'll be participating in this event and then potentially earning

a break at the Festival Hall grounds.

Yeah, of course we do.

I was watching somebody posted some videos online of one of the bands playing there.

And I said, let me see what's going on there.

And all these people were dancing on the grass.

Now, this was on the big stage they have, not the concrete stage.

This was the stage they have in the.

I don't know what you call that stage, but you know, I'm talking about under the tip.

No, the standalone one.

Oh, right.

The main stage.

Which is just a couple of years old.

Hasn't been there that long.

Oh, yeah.

So, Salmonorama runs through the 19th.

That's the big one.

Pickle Day is coming up.

So, Pickle Day, that's a part of our farmers market.

So, every Saturday, we have our farmers market from 9 a.m.

to 1 p.m.

We get the community from Racine Kenosha, Milwaukee, Burlington, from all over to come on down and, you know, just to support the vendors.

You know, I went to the farmer's market about two weeks ago.

We went there.

It was on Juneteenth Day.

Oh, yeah.

And what I didn't know was I couldn't get back across

Street for another hour.

Yeah.

I said to the cop, how long is this going to last?

He goes, oh, about an hour.

How do I get across the street?

He says you don't.

Yep.

So I went back to the farmer's market.

What am I going to do?

Yeah, I can't get across the street.

Yeah, that's a very good thing, the farmer's market.

RFM, we're seeing farmer's market.

See, I.

I'm not that slow.

I can think of

what RFM is.

And that runs all the way through October?

Correct.

Okay, that's good because all the new crops will be harvested during the fall and we'll have it there.

August 1st.

Well, I'm talking about August already.

We're seeing River Fest.

What's that about?

Yeah, so the River Fest, it's a collaboration of events on the waterfront.

It'll be starting and ending at Rotary Park.

So if you're interested, come on down and enjoy some fun on the river.

August 8th, Cluster Trucks and Jazz Fest.

Oh, the food trucks you're talking about, right?

Oh, yeah.

Okay.

So it'd be a host of food trucks, so it'd be like a taste of Racine while also listening to jazz music.

So it's another event to get the community to come down and see what Rotary Park is about and see what 5K is about.

When did food trucks become so big?

I mean, in the...

Just the last few years.

Yeah.

There are trucks

everywhere.

And these are major restaurants which bring their food on the road.

I see the Pico's truck all night.

I love Pico's restaurant.

Me too.

And they bring the food truck on the

There's some pretty good.

TLW Barzar, 91st anniversary of the Racine Tavern League in 91 years.

And that's at Rotary Park.

And what's involved in that, you know?

Yeah, so you'll have a bunch of different bars coming on down and they'll basically have like a, what we call it at the farmer's market, a tasted tent where you can go to the different locations inside of the park and taste different beverages that they have to showcase.

The career and resource fair for people that are either looking for jobs or kicked out of the house until they get a job.

We have the...

the career and resource fair and that's coming up August 15th local employers all sizes expanded your your horizons and whole types of jobs huh oh yeah and that's August 15th uh we're seeing farmers market corn on the cop day now we're talking

oh yeah so that's another day where you guys can come down so um going throughout the end of the year we're going to be broadcasting every Saturday with something major so we had the pickle day we're going to have the corn day and so on and so forth

soon to be Apple Day as well, so.

See, but corn of the cob, I get that safety through my teeth here.

Oh, yeah.

So, I mean, the first two teeth really ripped the corn off.

You got to get some nice butter on it.

Yeah, there's a little space between my teeth, but I love corn of the cob.

My dad, when we used to go on road trips when I was a kid, if you saw a farmer's field, he used to pull over and rip some corn and eat it raw right off the cob.

First of all, it's pretty hard on your teeth.

Yeah.

He said, but you haven't had it to your ripped it right off the right of the stem.

Of course, the farmer, I'm sure loved him go stealing his corn off the thing.

Right.

He should pull over to the side of the road and just rip off one and then throw it on the ground.

And that was the end of that.

I said, but you're throwing it out there.

He said, other birds will eat the rest.

I guess so.

So that's a run.

Our 17th annual.

That's our runner walk.

And then also bacon, salsa and beer.

And that'd be a rotary park.

So starting there, just like most of our five K events are runs at a start up rotary park.

And also make our way back down to have some bacon, some sauce and some beer.

We have a comedian on the air says you could take the worst foods in the world, wrap it in bacon and people will eat it.

They'll say, bippity boppity baking as long as it's water chestnuts.

Who's going to eat a water chestnut?

Nobody.

Nobody.

Baking around in all of a sudden.

It's a meal.

People love it.

Coming up on September 18th, the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.

That's going to be a festival hall.

Still working out the tales of that, right?

Yep.

So they'll have actually Jamal Bryant, who is a nationally known preacher and activist.

He'll be the speaker for that event and he'll be kicking that off on that day.

And one more before the break here, only because I love spuds, potatoes.

We're seeing farmers market Spud Fest.

It's all about the potato.

It's all about the potatoes.

That's our potato day.

Sitting home right now in my kitchen counter is about 15 or 16 potatoes.

Wow.

Because we have guests coming over for dinner on Friday night.

My wife's making a whole big thing.

But I'm looking at them for the last two days after they've been washed and sitting out there.

And I want to just take one.

Slice it up.

But I know she counted how many are there.

Yeah.

And she can just take one look.

One sword for dinner.

busy.

That's the one you're not getting.

We've got Veterans Day coming up on November 11th, and they have a special Veterans Day celebration coming up.

My dad was a vet, World War II vet, four years in World War II.

Got two distinguished flying cross medals, three accommodations.

He was a Navy tail gunner.

I spent

four years in the back of a plane going backwards to the entire war.

That's what he said.

I said, what was it like?

He said, I don't know, I was going backwards for four years.

I was a tail gunner.

That's amazing.

Yeah, so the vet, he could support our veterans and that is coming up on November 11th, Veterans Day.

November 16th, now this is a tradition in Racine, the Festival of Trees.

Oh yeah, so the Festival of Trees, you'll actually be hearing more information about this as time permits.
