The sun's rising
The coffee's breaking
There wouldn't be more in it without dawn frozen
WRJ yet
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
I had a laugh
Don't know what's in it
Since you left me
I'd never been the same
But I don't like it
Don't know where can it be
But where can it be
Now that you're gone
I can't hold on
Hold on
All by myself
You're under there
Hold on
Hold on
My girl
Don't know where
Can it be
But where can it be
But where can it be
Now that you're gone
I don't know what I want to do
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
I had a girl
Don't know what's her name
Since you left me
I'd never been the same
Because I lost my girl
Don't know where can it be
But where can it be
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Richie Valens and Donna
Local News, Timeless Hits
WRJN
We're saluting the day the music died
The tragic plane crash
That took the lives of Richie Valens, Buddy Holly
And J.P. Richardson, A.K.A.
At the time, Holly and his band
Consisting of Wyland Jennings, Tommy Alsop
And Carl Bunch were all playing
The Winter Dance Party tour across America
Now a rising artist, Richie Valens and Richie Richardson
And vocal group Dionne of the Belmons
And joined the tour as well
Long journeys between venues on board
The cold and comfortable tour buses
Adversely effective the performers
With cases of the flu even frostbite
After stopping a clear lake to perform
And frustrated with the conditions on the tour buses
Holly chose to charter a plane
To reach their next venue in Morehead, Minnesota
Richie's in suffering from the flu
Swap places with Jennings
Taking his seat on the plane while Alsop lost his seat
To Richie Valens on a coin toss
Soon after takeoff
Late at night
And in poor wintery weather conditions
Pilot Peterson lost control of the light aircraft
At Beachcraft Bonanza
Which crashed into a cornfield
Taking the lives of all four aboard
The event has since been mentioned
A reference in various media
Various monuments have been erected at the crash site
And in clear lake
Where an annual Morehead concert is held
At the surf ballroom
The venue that hosted
The artist's last performance
Tell you my story about visiting that site
Coming up in just a few minutes
Right now
Here's another hit
From one of those people lost
In that flight
Here's JP Richardson
The Big Bopper
Hello, baby
Hello, baby
Yeah, this is the Big Bopper's home
For you sweet land
Do I want
Will I want
Oh, baby, you know what I like
Shantilly lace
And a hoodie face
And a bonnet tail
Hangin' down
Wiggle in the wall
And a giggle in the talk
Made the world around
To eat nothing in the world
Like a big eyed girl
And make me act so funny
Make me spend my money
Make me feel real loose
Like a long neck
Do you like a girl
Oh, baby
That's the one I like
What's that, baby?
But
But
Oh, honey
But
Oh, baby
You know what I like
Shantilly lace
And a hoodie face
And a bonnet tail
Hangin' down
Wiggle in the wall
And a giggle in the talk
Make the world around
To eat nothing in the world
Like a big eyed girl
And make me act so funny
Make me spend my money
Make me feel real loose
Like a long neck
Do you like a girl
Oh, baby
That's the one I like
What's that, honey?
Pick you up and age
And don't be late
But baby
I ain't got no money, honey
Wiggle in the talk
Oh, all right, honey
You know what I like
Shantilly lace
And a hoodie face
And a bonnet tail
Hangin' down
Wiggle in the wall
And a giggle in the talk
Oh, all right, honey
Make the world around
To eat nothing in the world
Like a big eyed girl
And make me act so funny
Make me spend my money
Make me feel real loose
Like a long neck
Do you like a girl?
Oh, baby
That's the one I like
And J.P. Richardson
A.K.A.
The Big Bopper
Shantilly lace
Now I went to
Clear Lake, Iowa
with my wife
And we went to the surf ballroom
Now if you go there
It's still active today
As a matter of fact
Probably on this day
They do the winter concert memorial
And I know one of you
When we were there
A Big Bopper Jr.
J.P. Richardson's son
Was performing there
So if you go there
To the surf ballroom
It looks like it did
The day the music died
They kept it in the same condition
Nothing's been modified
Or changed
It's all there
Even the phone booth
Where Richie Valens
Made his final phone call
Is there
And if you go
A little bit further north
Go to 115th
And go
I think that's you dress
Either 115th
Or 116th
And go
There's a farmer's field there
Now they erected a big pair of glasses
Like Buddy Holly's glasses there
So you'll see where you're going
You'd have to walk through the farmer's field
And he's okay with it
And there's corn growing all around it
But you walk through the farmer's field
And eventually
About a quarter mile in
You'll get to see
Three stainless steel records
From the memorial
To all three artists
Buddy Holly
Richie Valens
And JP Richardson
The Big Bopper
There's also a lot of little tiny memorials there
But that is the site
Right there
Where the nose of the plane crashed
And took the lives of all four
Including the pilot
So you can check that out
If you want to go to Clear Lake, Iowa
And go to the surf ballroom first
Then you can go to the memorials site
And one more
From the day the music died
Here's Buddy Holly
Just you know why
Why you and I
Will buy and buy
No true love ways
Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
No true love ways
Throughout the day
How true love are you
Loving us just to share
With those who really care
Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
No true love ways
Throughout the day
How true love ways
Will bring us toys to share
With those who really care
Sometimes we'll sigh
Sometimes we'll cry
And we'll know why
Just you and I
No true love ways
Throughout the day
Talking about the day the music died
February 3rd, 1959
When we lost Buddy Holly, Richie Valens
And the Big Bopper, JP Richardson
And the Plank Crash in Clear Lake, Iowa
Here it is immortalized in 1972
By Don McLean
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music
made me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside the day
The music died
So by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And then good old boys
Would drink and whiskey and ride
Singing this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Have you believed in rock and roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance
Feel slow
Well, I know that you're in love with him
Because I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
And I dig those riddermy blues
That was a lonely teenage broken butt
With a painted carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
To the day the music died
And by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And then good old boys
Would drink and whiskey and ride
Singing this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die
Now for ten years we've been on our own
Moss grows fat on our rolling stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me
And while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The court broom was adjourned
Now 30th month's return
And while landing the red of book on marks
The court chest practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark the day
The music died
We were singing by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey
And ride singing
This will be the day that I'd die
This will be the day that I'd die
Help to shelter in the summer swell
To the birds to flew off with a fallout shell
Eight miles high and falling fast
And land and travel on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With a gesture on the sidelines
In the cast
Now to half time
There was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, I've never got the chance
The players tried to take the field
The marching man refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed today?
The music died
We started singing by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey
And ride singing
This will be the day that I'd die
This will be the day that I'd die
Oh, in there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack the nimble
Jack be quick
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
The fire is the devil's only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists
And braged the angel born in hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And it flames climb high into the night
To light the second
But if you're right I saw Satan laughing
With the delight of the day
The music died
We were singing by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey
And ride singing
This will be the day that I'd die
This will be the day that I'd die
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music he used before
But the man there said the music
Wouldn't play me
In the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells overbroken
And the three men I admire most
The father son and the whole ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day
The music died
And they were singing by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey
And ride singing this will be the day that I'd die
This will be the day that I'd die
They were singing by, by mis-American pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey
And ride singing this will be the day that I'd die
Done to clean and mortalizing this date in history
February 3rd, 1959
American rock and rollers
Buddy Holly, Richie Valens
And JP Richardson, the Big Bopper
All killed in plane crash
And you're a clear lake eye
What together with pilot Roger Peterson
And half hour we got to hear
All the artists we heard, Richie Valens
We heard JP Richardson, the Big Bopper
And we also heard Buddy Holly
And of course the song from Don McLean
That immortalized this date in history
