The Don Rosen Show · Mon Apr 8, 2024

I think you should buckle your seatbelt, but I feel bad for the people in the back seat.

They always seem like they're less important to people in the front.

You ever watch like four people get in the car? People in the back just sit in there.

People are front all like buckling up like they're going out of the atmosphere.

You know, click, click, click, click, click, click, click.

People in the back on, hey what's going on up there?

It don't matter you're in the back.

Your belts are squished down in those seats anyway. You'll never find them.

Hey wait a second, don't start the car!

They're trying to pull them out. Give me a rope or something!

You want to hate when you're driving and you pick up a friend and they get in

and they don't buckle their seatbelt up like right away, but they will like 10 minutes

into the drive. Have to have some goofy turn.

Without saving to you they'll just pull that belt down.

You got to prop them all of a sudden.

So what I do, as they're looking down, I go, ah!

That's the third go round.

Actually a second go round for that song.

I had had three head versions.

The first one was Robert Knight.

And this one, Carl Carlton and Gloria Stepon also had a big hit with this song.

We're due for another one. It's like the eclipse every 20 years or so comes along.

We need another hits that merge into this song.

608 WRGN, I'm Don Rosen speaking about the eclipse.

We're going to get a good view over here in South East Wisconsin.

Clear skies! Yeah, we're going to get a great view.

Not it's not going to be in totality, but 91%.

Now it all begins at 12.52 p.m.

The main event is at 208 p.m.

And then it ends at 3.22 p.m.

Of course, you know, the only need to tell you not to look at it.

You're supposed to get special glasses or make a pinhole camera.

We're just watching it on TV. I mean, you can do that too.

We have a better or ever less in love.

Yeah, we got sunny skies today.

Actually, a sunny sky today.

Sunshine with a high-near 63.

Partly cloudy, low 45 tonight.

Sunny, highs near 57 tomorrow.

It's clear, beautiful.

You can see the moon up there.

Pretty soon it's going to be in the way of the sun.

And that's when the main event starts.

There you go.

I remember a total eclipse.

Oh, where did I live when that happened?

Hmm.

Well, I have to look at the years the last time they were here.

I remember I gave a quick look up.

And I could see the total eclipse happening.

And then I got frightened.

And I used a pinhole camera to see it.

We just take a piece of paper, pop a pin in it,

and shine it out of the piece of paper.

You can see the eclipse.

I did that.

But I remember it wasn't a total eclipse.

It was the one of those partial ones, like we're going to see.

But 91% is pretty good.

But I do remember I can't remember more I saw it though.

I don't know if I was here, where I lived now.

But I remember it wasn't a total eclipse.

It was one of those partial ones, like we're going to see.

Where I lived now.

Or did I live in Brown Deer?

Or did I live in Atlanta?

I don't know.

I forgot where I lived.

I did see it before.

And lunar eclipse, we have a lot.

But this one, you know, is getting big.

There are people traveling from all over the world

to come to the United States to see this.

It only lasts four and a half minutes.

But they're traveling.

They interviewed a couple from Jeff.

Actually, a whole family from Germany,

just so they can see it.

Because I don't think you'll be able to see another part

to the world.

I think it's just the United States.

I could be wrong.

But when I saw the map, that's what I thought it showed.

So they have people traveling all over the world just to get here.

Then they have these towns all along the route through Texas.

Now Texas is going to be cloddy and rainy today.

So those people that travel to Texas, I didn't get to see anything.

But along the small towns, along the way,

people have come in, pitch their tents or rented a hotel room.

Little diners have been told to, you know,

they're staying in the people that are going to stay the night

because they're going to people that are all night long,

wanting food.

So it's a big business is total eclipse.

A lot of money.

I didn't get the glasses.

I wanted yesterday, but I was too lazy to head out.

I might do it today.

See if Walmart's got some glasses or something.

I know they were selling it for a buck 99.

Even then, I don't know if it's a good idea to stare at it.

But at least you get a quick glue, you know, look at it.

But yeah, the total eclipse again, the times today here in Southeast Wisconsin

begins at 12.52 when the moon starts to pass in front of the sun.

Then 91% of it will be done.

The main event is at 208 p.m.

And then it ends at 3.22 p.m.

And that's it.

That's the whole McGillah.

And it's all over for another 20 years.

I'll be back in 2044.

I probably won't be here for it.

There's a my good, but I don't think I will be.

But you might be here for it.

So I'm going to look if the sun's still there.

Speaking about the eclipse, people on the edge of the path of totality

might want to move a little closer to the middle of it.

The predicted edges aren't exact and they could be off by a few hundred yards

thanks to uncertainty of the earth's rotation.

And because we don't know exactly how big the sun is, we don't.

We don't know how big the sun is.

Also a comet larger than Mount Everest known as devil comet

might be visible during the eclipse.

Oh, that's great.

Hope it's not that big.

Well, we can get a good look at it.

I was not that close to us.

The devil comet.

I've heard one thing about that.

About the devil comet being within the viewing distance.

That's not good.

Speaking of viewing, you know what we saw yesterday, my wife and I.

Went to the Marcus Renaissance.

We saw the Godfather.

There's some old movies playing there.

They had gone with the wind yesterday and the Godfather.

Gone with the wind.

My wife took a peek in the theater.

It was packed for gone with the wind.

The Godfather had a lot of people there, but not it wasn't packed.

But it was so good.

You know, I know all the dialogue from the Godfather

has seen it a million times.

But when you see it on the big screen with an audience,

it's really, it's really good.

I just want to say Michael, let's Michael.

Michael, come here, Michael.

I advise Michael.

But Michael's going to enjoy you now.

I know doing good brando.

You know, people, when they, when they talk about brando,

they're about trouble.

Make areas.

But he put on a performance in the Godfather.

Your Danny Thomas wanted that role of a Godfather.

Can you imagine Danny Town?

I can't imagine anybody else doing it.

And before the movie started, they talked about the casting of the film.

There was a movie guy on the screen.

And he was talking about the casting of the film.

Paramount turned down a bunch of directors

because they wanted somebody with an Italian heritage to direct it.

And that's where they got Copeland out.

He, this biggest film before that was Finneon's Rainbow of Musical.

So they got him to direct it.

And they fought him on brando.

They didn't want brando.

And he fought back.

And they made Brando do a screen test.

Something Brando hadn't done it like decades to a screen test.

And he did it.

Then they didn't want Al Pacino as Michael.

They fought against that.

And, you know, Copeland said it's Al Pacino

because he only made one picture before that called Panic and Needle Park.

You know, we look at Pacino today.

We look at all his roles.

You know, Dog Day afternoon.

He didn't make those films yet.

This was 1970.

The film came out in 1972.

They filmed, they were filming it in 1771.

You know, Pacino did the only made one movie up until that point.

So they took a chance.

And of course, Pacino is identified with Michael Corleone.

What a great movie that Godfather.

Oh, I never get tired of watching that.

He got fish from Barney, from Barney Miller, Abogoda playing Sally Tessia.

He got Tessie rather.

He got him playing Tessie.

He got Alliteria.

Oh, he was great as I can't remember all the names now.

The guy who.

Michael shoots in the restaurant there.

Yeah.

They're all great.

Everybody was perfectly cast in that movie.

Oh, but a great movie that Godfather.

There's only one film that's equal to the Godfather.

If not just a tad better, but equal Godfather too.

The worst of the three Godfather three.

I, they made a big mistake.

First of all, the casting of Sophia Coppola in that film really hurt the movie.

And, you know, she's in the Godfather one.

The first Godfather.

You know, do you see the parts you plays?

She's the baby being baptized while Michael is having all the heads of the five families killed or the four rest of the families killed off.

He's the, he's the baby.

Sophia Coppola.

And she would grow up to star in Godfather three.

Now she's a big director.

She's not an actress anymore, but she's a big director.

Sophia Coppola did real well for herself.

Sixteen minutes after.

Six o'clock here on eclipse morning.

On your Monday morning.

Hope you have a great day today.

You know, so he's.

Yeah, he could get back to work after a nice weekend.

He had a good weekend.

He enjoyed it.

It was kind of weather-wise kind of iffy.

But it was, you know, it's nice to sleep late and lay around and, you know, just have some fun over a weekend.

And you got to go back to work.

Yeah.

Okay, Walmart's in the news.

Not because they're selling those glasses to see the eclipse.

They're going there because they're not really a renowned farmers market.

But if it's your go-to place for fresh fruits and veggies, they'll use money.

They had to pay $45 million to settle a class action lawsuit arguing that they'd overcharged their customers for weighted food like fruits and vegetables.

Not going to get rich on this.

Ten to $25 back if you file a claim.

Now, the question becomes, what are they overcharged?

What do they do that?

That wasn't nice.

They overcharged people.

A doctor going viral after explaining why toasting white bread makes it healthier.

Check this out.

Said it causes more retrograded starch to form.

And it doesn't, it doesn't won't spike your blood sugar that way so much.

And it keeps you feeling fuller longer.

Something I'm not totally buying.

My mother used to say, I always eat the crust.

The crust is the best part.

I know she was giving me the story of that one.

Here's the latest group that sell out.

Kiss sold its music catalog.

Name logo likenesses everything to a company called pop house entertainment.

They're developing a hologram documentary and biopic of that kiss.

I think what they sold it for 300 million something like that.

And I know a human still having cured cancer yet or found a way to keep takeout french fries from getting soggy.

But some things like air travel are really, really incredible if you think about it.

Here's one I picked out from the list of things people think are incredible.

And they just don't know how it, you know, how it works.

Why are those transmissions in radio?

Someone said the fact that my radio can talk without any wires attached is magic.

I still believe that.

I met when I got my first transistor radio.

You know, I still have them at home.

Some transistor radios.

It's amazing.

How can I have this man talking to me or this woman talking to me?

And there's nothing attached to this little tiny box.

I hear music, I hear everything.

But, you know, you can put it in your pocket.

You know, I mean, it still works.

How does that work?

How does my boys get to you this morning without any wires?

Huh.

I'll pretend that I'm missing the lips I'm missing.

And hope that my dreams will come true.

And then while I'm away, I'll write home every day.

And I'll send all my love into you.

All my love into you.

All my love into you.

Back when I was ten years old, my local radio station ran a record boat.

Every night you would vote on a new song that we're playing.

And this was one of the new songs.

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you.

And I didn't know the name of the song was all my loving.

I was ten years old.

All I thought was close your eyes.

So I voted.

I said, I vote.

This is going to be a hit.

Close your eyes.

And I was all my loving.

It just had just come out.

And I was one of the people that made this song a hit.

To you.

All my love into you.

The Beatles own me.

Without my vote, this might have never heard of again.

WRJ at 622.

I'm Don Rosen on your Monday eclipse morning.

For today's sunny, going to be a gorgeous day for that.

Eclipse size near 63.

Part of cloudy tonight.

Lowest 45 tomorrow.

Sunny with a higher 57.

Clear in 42 degrees right now here in Racine.

You know, I, I haven't read any of them because I don't want to read this nonsense garbage.

But people are coming out with,

coming out with conspiracy theories about this eclipse.

And are these, how do these people get released from asylums?

How did they ever get a weekend pass to get out into the, into the real world?

They're blaming Biden for the eclipse.

They're blaming Democrats for the eclipse.

How did this happen?

Where are these people coming from?

What, what room did they, they sneak out of?

I didn't read them in total.

But I heard people talking about the things on the internet about some of these conspiracy theories about the eclipse.

Give me a break.

All right.

Sports.

The Broders will be in Cincinnati.

They play the red 505 on WRJ.

And oh, you know, he's coming in today.

Mike Bino will be on the air with us.

Mike Bino is the founder of our Wisconsin magazine.

He said, guys, he has some good stories to talk about.

And one of the stories there, they talk about Frank Lloyd Wright.

I am going to tell you a story.

He, I don't know if he knows it or not, about Taliesin that you may not know.

It's a shocking, shocking story that happened right here in Wisconsin, at Taliesin and Springgreen.

This one is, it's, it's a shocker.

And we'll tell that when Mike Bino comes on the air with us, he'll be here a little after seven o'clock this morning.

Talking about the brand new issue of our Wisconsin magazine.

I love that magazine.

It's a really high gloss class act and great stories about local people.

He wants to talk about the Tupperware lady.

Who's it?

I want to talk about Frank Lloyd Wright, the story about his buildings here.

I think the last commercial building, the Frank Lloyd Wright design is the SC Johnson building here and we're seeing.

Hey, well, we'll talk about that coming up a little later on today, right?

Princess Cruz is offering one person and all expense paid crews to test their new casino.

In addition to free food and drinks, you'll also get a $500 stipend to spend at the casino.

In exchange, all they do is want you to rate the casino on a scale of zero to 10 based on criteria like game variety,

betting limits, atmosphere, staff, food and drinks and support services, including customer service.

You can apply from now through the end of the month.

All you need to do is be able to take a cruise in October or November.

And then you have to pay for the go.

No, it's all expenses paid.

Huh, there's a catch somewhere.

I can't figure out where that catch is, but I think it's somewhere odd, but true.

After Shaquille O'Neill won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta,

he threw it out the window in his way home to Orlando and has never seen it again.

He was upset about his playing time in the championship game.

And so he teach them a lesson by throwing his gold medal out the window.

I wonder if anybody ever covered it and actually has the gold medal,

or is it buried under dirt and weeds and grass or whatever just to lay there for eternity

and until they build something and scoop it up.

But yeah, I wonder if somebody found that gold medal.

All right, remember all the comic books you throw out when you're a kid?

Oh, I can't tell you how many my mother threw out and I threw out something too.

Yeah, until they get old and ratty looking or you grew them, you threw them in the garbage.

A copy of action comics, number one, featuring the first appearance of Superman just sold

for a record six million dollars just out of the other day.

There were about a hundred copies left.

They think out there 200,000 were printed in 1938 about a hundred left.

But you'd wish you kept those comic books now when you're a kid.

And you want to do a do over on that one and not throw them out.

But we can't go back in time yet.

A 76 year old man in Canada landed in the ICU after he got bit by a toilet rat.

He found it in this toilet.

It bit two of his fingers when he tried to remove it, he ended up with a bacterial infection,

which can be deadly.

Now I have to look this up to see what a toilet rat is because I never heard of them before.

When rats get into the sewer system, they can, if you're hooked up to a sewer system

and not, you know, a cesspool in your house, if you're hooked up to a sewer system,

they can make their way up through your pipes into your toilet into your house.

And that's what happened to this guy.

The rat, I don't know how the rat gets through all the water and holds his breath,

but I guess he did.

And he came up and bit this guy and he's lucky rats where he got bit in the hand.

It could have been worse.

But yeah, I never heard of that before.

So I looked them up and there are real thing, toilet rats.

Make sure to lift the cover and look.

I don't have to read that story the other day.

I want to lift the toilet and look.

All right.

One of the largest cash hists in LA history, thieves made off.

And this happened the other day.

Thirty million dollars cash during a burglary.

This happened on Easter Sunday.

We could go.

It happened to the money storage facility.

I said, who stores 30 million dollars in cash?

Well, apparently it's a thing.

A money storage facility.

I had never heard of it before.

And all they did was have tons and tons and tons and tons of cash.

And this guy, these guys stole it.

Wow.

Fun fact.

In 2007, Taylor Swift played a show at a small high school in Alabama.

Tickets $20 each.

Last year, the average ticket price for her air is two or $188.

Yeah.

She ain't playing more $20 ticket towards her.

Is she?

Showbiz news.

You can check out the first look at Christian Baylor's Frankenstein's monster.

And Maggie Gyllenhaal's version of The Bride.

And this one, I don't get.

The Spice Girls kicked Mel B out of their WhatsApp app because she blabs too much.

Well, when you have a chat app, isn't that like the, isn't that the main purpose of it?

The blab talk and do that kind of stuff.

Why would you kick somebody out for doing what it was designed to do?

All right.

How can I tell you?

Sunny today with a hundred sixty three perfect eclipse viewing weather.

Just make sure you get special glasses or something.

Don't look as you will hurt your eyes.

Take your eye out.

Part of cloudy lows 45 tonight.

Sunny tomorrow with a hundred fifty seven right now clear and fifty two degrees.

Don't forget.

It was Watson.

We should have a ninety one percent viewing and ninety one percent totality of the eclipse.

It all begins at twelve fifty two p.m.

With the maximum main event starting at two o eight p.m.

And it all ends at three twenty two in the moon.

Just passes in front of the sun.

To all over.

I'm Don Rosen.

And you are at home tab radio refreshed as civic media station WRJM.

Music

The escalator definitely makes you look down on stairs.

There's nothing more than an organized hill.

I don't think worse in walking upstairs is walking up an escalator that's not working.

What's the point? It's like having a dead butler.

We all look so confused when we encounter the escalator that's not working.

How am I supposed to get up there?

I'm trapped!

Help! Help!

I don't think when they separate the up in the down escalator they do that in malls.

You're like well here's the down escalator where's the up?

Oh that's can be nearly located a mile away.

Can you bring a canoe because there's a river?

Those are amazing after all our technological advancements.

We still can't get the escalator hand rail to go the same speed as the escalator.

It's like my hands are going to get up there before me.

See up there hand.

I'd wave but I don't have a hand.

I don't have a hand.

Good morning, Darshine.

The earth says hello.

You tweak all above us.

We tweak all below.

Good morning, Darshine.

You lead us along.

My love and me everything.

Our early morning, Stingentong.

Blaming the group, grouping me.

I've been doing all of our work.

The abbasin is abbasin.

You've been abbasin.

We treat go go.

You've been doing all of our work.

You've been abbasin.

The early morning, Stingentong.

Good morning.

Darshine.

The sun is half this morning.

It's beautiful.

Just over Lake Michigan.

I just put my beak out the door to take a look at it.

And I'm just thinking a few hours, that sun is going to be historic.

With the total eclipse of the sun.

I'm going to have total eclipse of the heart.

I was making that funny valley of sun.

You know, people looking at all of the United States are going to try to get a peek at that.

And there's that sun right now.

For some reason, I can look at it when it's on the horizon.

But once it gets up on the sky and it's clear and bright.

And it's getting close to it.

Anyway, so yeah, it's ready to go.

We got the moon in place.

We got the sun in place.

We got a clear sky today.

Sunny with a high-deer 63.

Plenty lows 45 tonight.

Sunny tomorrow with a high-deer 57.

Sunny 42 degrees.

Right now, don't forget the eclipse here in Wisconsin.

91% coverage begins at 12.52 p.m.

Maximum at 208 p.m. ends at 3.22 p.m.

Set your watch.

And by the way, I forget to mention, if you have a comment,

anytime during this show from 6th to 8, you can text me at 262-300-745.

You can go to the Civic Media app.

The Civic Media app.

Just look for WRJN.

You can do it that way.

Or you can call 262-300-745-262-300-745.

You might want to put that in your phone and put down WRJN text.

262-300-745.

So when Mike Beano is on later from our Wisconsin magazine,

if you have a question, I'll ask him.

You can just text me, all right?

I keep checking it every few minutes.

638-WRJN radio.

1400 AM, 99.9 FM, 98.1 FM in Kenosha.

All right.

Hey, we've got baseball coming up today.

The Brewers in Cincinnati to play the Reds 505 p.m.

You're on WRJN, you're home of the Brewers, the Bucks,

the Badgers, and the Green Bay Packers.

There's nothing's anybody left.

So we got a lot covered there.

By the way, congratulations to the Gamecocks.

They are the women's champion.

Over the weekend, they had a big win.

Yesterday, they had a big win, and they beat Iowa.

And with a big game, anyway, congratulations.

This is the first year I know that the women's basketball finals were...

People more people wanted to watch those in the men's finals.

They had a lot going on there.

Wow, that women's league.

That's great.

The NCAA women's basketball.

They are...

People wanted to see that more than the men's.

You know, they really brought themselves up this year.

Well, they had the star from Iowa, which caught the attention of America.

And...

I saw some of the highlights of that game with the Gamecocks.

Whoa!

Do they play well?

Wow.

Excellent.

Well, anyway, congratulations to South Carolina on that big win.

Are you a liar?

Let's find out.

What in four Americans admit they tell at least one lie in a day?

How do you spot those liars?

Right.

Here you go.

Top signs.

We look for little-to-no-eye contact, lots of fidgeting and sudden sweating.

You know, they can remember the movie Airplane with a guy in the cockpit sweating in this like...

Waterfalls coming off his forehead, something like that.

Yeah.

No eye contact.

Yeah.

You can tell somebody's trying to make up a story when they...

When they're looking at them and they're talking and their eyes go up to the left, upper left.

When they look up, they're looking for an answer.

And that's what happens.

Liars.

All right.

This is dedication.

A 90-year-old woman in Texas named Melba Mabane.

Mabane just retired after working at the same village department store for 74 years.

She started back in 1949 as an elevator operator and eventually switched to cosmetics in 74 years.

And I get this.

This is why she's dedicated.

In 74 years, she never called in sick one day or missed a single day of work.

That's kind of old school.

You don't find that much anymore.

In my first 24 years here at WRJN, I think I took one sick day.

I had a cold, so bad I had no voice.

Now, the only other time I took off is when I had my heart surgery.

13 years ago, this...

It was 13 years ago this week that I was off.

13 years ago, and the first week of April, it took off my heart surgery.

But that was it.

The heart surgery and the one day of cold in 24 years.

Hmm.

Well, good for this lady.

Wow, 90 years old.

What dedication?

74 years.

Working for the same company.

Never a day off.

A guy in Iowa had a pretty good weekend.

And proposed to his girlfriend on a Friday.

She said, yes.

On Saturday, he bought a lottery ticket and won $390,000.

That's not bad.

That's a good weekend.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

You've heard of that joke, huh?

Now a local ordinance in Whitman, Georgia, prohibits chickens from crossing the road.

It's the end of that joke.

That's true.

What do you mean they prohibit chickens from crossing the road?

I think it's safe to say this idea would never fly in the U.S.

A restaurant in Thailand gives discounts to thin people.

There's a series of bars that if you squeeze through, you qualify for a discount.

It starts at 5% and the bars get narrower at 10% than 20%.

The narrowest bars get you a free meal.

So I guess if you're all skin and bones, you've got no weight on your whatsoever.

You get a free meal.

A mom and young son posted a video of themselves going through.

She got 20% off.

He got the freebie.

I would never get a discount.

They make me pay more.

They say, oh, no, no, no, no.

You, you, you're going to pay more.

You're going to pay the top dollar.

That's what would happen.

All right.

What's the stupidest thing you ever heard of someone saying?

Reddit's been talking about this one.

A guy who heard a pregnant lady was doing July and said, this July?

That is stupid.

All right.

What else I got for you this morning?

Yeah.

That is dumb.

When I have a child, a study founded on cost and average of $252,000 to raise a kid.

And that's just to age 18.

It does not include college.

Now, my daughter's in her 40s now.

I can't believe it costs me $252,000 to raise her.

I don't know where they got that figure from.

I don't have that kind of money.

Especially when, you know, the young guy, you know, raising a daughter with my wife.

I didn't have that kind of cash.

And she seemed though, she turned out okay.

Looking for a stiff drink.

Here's some surprising health benefits of whiskey.

A shot of a full days supply of vitamin C is found in whiskey.

Drinking it could help prevent cancer, strokes, dementia and more.

And it can help calm you down when you get nervous.

Now, I don't think they're talking about drinking a, you know, a quart of whiskey every day.

I don't think they're talking about that.

I think they're talking about an occasional drink.

That's just my guess.

True.

One of the most popular candy bars in the Soviet Union was called hematogen.

Hematogen.

One of the ingredients, cow's blood.

By the way, that candy bar is still around today.

It's considered a medical product now to help with nutrients and treat malnutrition.

Are you hungry enough to try a candy bar made of cow's blood?

Not me.

I don't know what candy bars to begin with.

I'm not a big fan, but that would definitely turn me off.

Hematogen figures that came from the Soviet Union.

So in Russia, I guess they still have it as of last year anyway.

You already got a first date?

Well, let's see if we can help you out here.

What's more attractive on a date?

Someone who's funny or someone who thinks you're funny?

12,000 people were pulled and someone who's funny one by four to one margin.

So if you're on the date and you're funny, the person likes it.

If you're on the date and the other person is funny, you don't like it.

I don't know.

I like it when the other person is funny.

Of course, I haven't been on a first date in decades, but some women caused a big scene

out of the American Airlines flight at a Dallas.

She demanded to get off the plane because she claimed a guy near the back

was quote, not real.

The flight was delayed for three hours, yet another reason why I won't fly.

Because he nuts making stupid demands like that.

Did you see what happened yesterday?

Part of the jet engine was a United or Southwest.

I can't remember what plane it was.

I have to look it up.

I forget what airline it was.

I'll look it up.

Anyway, the jet on the plane started to disintegrate.

The coverage was coming off.

It was like that twilight zone episode with William Shatner when those critters

were ripping up the jet engine and ripping up part of the wing.

Remember that episode?

I think it was nightmare at 10,000 feet or whatever, something like a 30,000 feet.

Anyway, that's what it was like.

And they filmed it.

And I'll look up during the break here and find out what airline it was.

Other Southwest.

But you see the guy was filming it with the jet engine just disintegrating while they're in flight.

This is yet another reason why I don't like the flight.

It seems like every day we're hearing a horror story about the airlines.

It's getting scary.

This is why I don't fly.

I drive everywhere.

I eat what my daughter got married to.

Are you in a flyer?

Nope.

I drove my brother, myself, my wife's.

We all drove down the Florida to go to her wedding.

I'm going to fly down there.

At the jet engine disintegrate on me in flight.

Have some nut in the aisle.

Say the person's not real in the back.

I want to get off the plane.

There's crazy people out there.

All right.

People are freaking out over this idea.

Recycled soap, a charity called Clean the World, takes used bars and soap from hotels.

Disinfection remolds them.

They mostly sent out the countries where hygiene is an issue.

I'm off a recycling.

However, there's a limit.

I don't want to use somebody else's dirty soap that we use to clean parts, which I don't

want to think about.

I don't care if they disinfect them.

I don't care what they do to them.

I want to buy a clean bar of soap.

Is it that bad for the environment to buy an extra clean bar of soap?

I wanted to enjoy your upcoming vacation, but here are three new things to worry about when

you go on the summer vacation.

Six percent of people say they've cheated on their significant other while they were on

vacation.

They met somebody and cheated.

Getting sunburns just once every two years triples your risk of skin cancer.

And heart attacks, the most common way to die on vacation.

Hey, you have a great time.

You know, when you go on a cruise ship, they have a morgue on cruise ships.

Because people die on cruise.

There's a lot of older people going cruises and they die.

So they have a morgue.

We had on one of our cruises, here at the radio station, we used to take groups on cruises.

And one of our guys died on the cruise.

They brought him back to life.

They did some CPR.

The doctor happened to be in the lounge at the time, waited to be introduced on stage.

Brought him back to life.

He had a heart transplant.

And today he's doing excellent.

But this was bad.

I don't know, 20 years ago, something like that.

Do you imagine that?

Oh, he was in the hospital on the cruise ship.

Good friend of ours.

I like the guy too.

And he's all better now.

He's 20 years of the new heart.

He's great.

But still, that's, you know, going vacation, you don't come back.

Now the latest thing, people disappearing on cruises.

People falling off the railing.

All of a sudden they're not there anymore.

Six forty nine WRJ.

And I'm Don Rose.

And thank you for joining us here.

We're a civic media station all across the state of Wisconsin.

Civic media.

Downtown radio refreshed at 6.49.

Here we are.

It is the evening of the day.

I sit and watch the children play.

Smiling faces I can see.

But not for me.

I sit and watch as tears go down.

My look just kept my everyday.

I want to feel the difference here.

Very unfaithful wrote that song for her then boyfriend.

She sang it.

But then her then boyfriend Mick Jagger recorded the song with the stones.

As tears go by.

All right.

The jet engine cover that disintegrated in flight was on a southwest airliner.

So the Boeing engine cover just fell off during takeoff from the U.S.

Investigations.

Wow.

Imagine watching that.

He'd taken off here in the sky and all of a sudden the engine cover falls off.

Whoa.

I wonder if the pilot knew it when it was coming off.

I mean they don't have a rear view mirror.

Do they own those planes?

Maybe they do a rear view mirror.

Anyway.

Yeah.

That would kind of scare if I saw that.

I was on one flight that had to make an emergency landing.

We were coming from New York, LaGuardia to Milwaukee at Mitchell.

And we had very bad turbulence going over the Detroit area.

I mean the plane was rocking all over the place.

People were crying and screaming.

You know what made me nervous too.

And that you know you get that plane where it goes up at them drops real quick.

And you get that we kind of leave your seat a little bit.

And this was on Midwest Express airliner.

They had two seats on either side.

My wife and daughter sat on one side.

And I was sitting on the other side.

And I was working.

I was sitting there to the curator of the Milwaukee Public Museum.

And she was panicking.

She was crying and grabbing stuff.

And there were people screaming and crying on the plane.

It was scary.

And then we got out of the turbulence.

But we had a circle so long that the pilot came over.

I didn't use the word fuel.

He said, well we're running out of gas.

We have to make an emergency landing in Green Bay.

A great note was Oscar.

Oscar, Oscar, I appealed in Appleton.

Appleton it was.

I think it was Appleton.

We had to make an emergency landing in Appleton or whatever.

So we made the landing.

Now this is late at night.

It's about 1130 ohen's midnight.

And we made the landing.

And they said we're just going to fuel up and we'll take right off.

My daughter says, um,

Mommy's on the outside the window.

I see her on the runway waving at us.

I said, well, how did she get there?

Turns out she started screaming.

She hated flying to begin with my first wife.

She hated flying to begin with.

And she was banging on the door.

I want out.

I want out.

I want out.

And of course other people were following her.

They were lining up at the door.

They want to get off.

Because this plane was violently rocking.

We got scared.

Not a blame them.

So I said, just sit here.

And she said, you can see her yelling, get off the plane.

So my daughter and I got off the plane.

And it's midnight.

And the airport's closed.

And the rental car place was just about closing down for the night.

And I said, what do you want to do now?

So I go to the rental car place.

And they said, well, we're closed.

And I said, we really need a car.

To get home.

She goes, what's in it for me?

I said $50.

So that little snake took $50.

It put it in her pocket.

And then sold it, you know, rented me the car.

And that was the last car they had.

So the lady from the curator from the public museum begs.

Please, please, all the way to pick me with you.

I said, I don't beg you.

I'll pay.

I'll pay anything.

I said, you don't have to pay anything.

Just getting the back seat.

So they were my daughter and we'll drive back.

So we drove back from Oshkosher, Appleden.

And it was Appleden to the Milwaukee Mitchell airport

because our luggage was waiting there.

The plane had come and gone.

I mean, it was a couple of hours went by.

And the plane had been there and left.

And everything was fine.

And she just said, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

That was the only time I had a landed in the emergency.

I would have stayed on the plane, but they were all screaming.

And luckily, but you know, I should have turned in that person

at the rental car place.

Should have turned them in.

This is back in the 80s.

I should have turned her in right then and there for taking

the $50 onto the table to rent me a car.

But at that point, there were too many people crying and people

were coming off the plane.

They were going to grab the car and they would have paid her.

So anyway, bottom line is that's the only time I was ever.

And that was the night.

There was a plane crash in Detroit.

And if you look up the story, you'll find it.

A baby survived the baby flew into the overhead compartment

or they put the baby in there.

And when the plane crashed, everybody died except the baby.

It happened in Detroit.

And I guess the baby was cushioned in that overhead compartment

and didn't die.

But that was the night when we flew over Detroit and everything

went crazy.

Yeah.

Wow.

It's a great story to wake up to this morning.

Yeah.

All right.

You like pickle juice?

I have never had a pickle in my life.

Never had a pickle in my life.

And at this stage of the game, I don't plan on it.

But a health and wellness expert posted a list of reasons to drink pickle juice.

It can help you lose weight.

Yeah, because you'll throw up and not eat anything after drinking that.

Recovery after a workout, regulate your blood sugar.

Help you with muscle cramps.

And some people claim it's a hangover cure.

Pickle juice, never in a million years.

Odd, but true Wi-Fi does not stand for wireless fidelity like people think.

It actually stands for nothing.

People who created Wi-Fi said they like the name because it rhymed with Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi.

And that's where it comes from.

Couple of the Kansas recently went to Las Vegas on vacation, left their dog dexter at a candle.

Then they got an alert from the doorbell cam.

He broke out.

If he's killing his six foot fence and found his way back home, two miles away.

They talked to him over the speaker while someone at the candle drove and got him.

Says he's really smart.

Sometimes too smart for his own good.

And that's something.

The dog got from vacation on their ring doorbell.

All right.

Here's the title of this story.

It never happens what appears to be in the news.

All right.

The $1 million prize in America's Got Talent is actually an annuity that paid out over 40 years.

If you take the cash value when you win, it's $300,000 or roughly $150,000 after taxes.

So when you go on these reality shows and you win a million dollars, you're lucky if you come out with $150,000.

Same thing with that $1.2 or $1.3 billion winner in Oregon over the weekend.

The Power Bowl winner.

You're lucky if they come out with $300,000.

People said that's a lot of money.

Yes, but it's not the advertised $1.2 billion.

I mean, the whole Power Bowl setup is advertising $1.2 billion, $1.2.

You'll get to be a billionaire.

Nope.

You get $300,000 if you're lucky.

It stole a lot of money.

But what were they advertised?

All right.

We're talking, uh-oh.

Hour was gone.

You say, almost gone.

It's an hour was gone.

You know, at $706, he's going to be here discussing the newest articles in the latest edition of Hour was Concent Magazine.

What am I favorite magazines ever?

I love it.
