The Don Rosen Show · Tue Mar 12, 2024

I start with my weight. I'm on this fancy diet that Domino's pasta bread bowl diet.

Have you seen the Domino's pasta bread bowl? It's a bread bowl filled with pasta, covered

in cheese, the only ingredient missing a suicide note. I eat unhealthy. I actually enjoy eating

unhealthy, but a Domino's pasta bread bowl. I mean, I got kids. I don't want one of them

in a therapist's office. If my dad loved me, why would he eat a Domino's pasta bread bowl?

Pasta in a bread bowl? That's a sign of a serious eating disorder, isn't it?

I was out of control. I was putting pasta in bread bowls. It's a matter of time before I

cover with cheese. I needed help. I went to a meeting and worked out.

Although, if a Domino's presented is some traditional entree from the old country,

by the pasta bread bowl, it's just like a mama Domino used to make.

That's Eric Carmen, lead singer for its first group, The Ransberries. That was their

first group. We just heard that Eric Carmen, a former lead singer for The Ransberries,

a singer of a lot of hits solo artists, passed away at the age of 74. They announced it on

his website, and they said it was with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news

of the passing of Eric Carmen, our sweet loving talented Eric passed away in his sleep

over the weekend. We just found out now though.

I hear a lot of hits on Hungry Eyes from Dirty Dancing all by myself.

A couple of hits with the Ransberries, but that was their biggest hit.

No cost of death was given for Eric Carmen. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He rose to

fame as the front man for the 1970s pop rock group, The Ransberries, whose tidy haircuts

and matching suits appeared to reference the uniform looks of the beetles, now the defining

groups of the British invasion, although he wasn't British. He was American. We became

immensely popular by going completely against the grain in 1970. He wrote in his bio progressive

rock was in an FM radio clutched it to a bosom. I hated it. I love the beetles, the

who the birds, the stones, the beach boys and small faces. I love the bands that could

write together. The band churned out hits, including I want to be with you. That was

another great Ransberries hit. And of course go all the way critics like this. He said

girls like this, but they're 18 year old album buying brothers said no. Carmen wrote

we got frustrated and imploded. And the band broke up in 1975. Eric Carmen built his solo

career on knockout balance like all by myself later belted out the legendary heights by

Celine Dion. Of course, Hungry Eyes, which provided the steamy soundtrack backdrop for

an intensive love scene between Johnny and baby and dirty dancing. Another Eric Carmen's

most memorable hits was written for the movie soundtrack. He co-wrote almost paradise,

although he didn't really see to never hit with the song. The love theme was from Foot

Loose performed by Mike Reno and And Wilson. The song earned him a solo Grammy nomination

with a soundtrack, competed for best album of original score written for emotion picture.

So all by myself make me lose control. That's right. That was another one of his pickets.

And Hungry Eyes picked up the top 10 on billboard top 100 chart. He'd spent more than four

months on the chart and all 13 of Eric Carmen's songs had a place on the chart. He declined

to join the Ransberries when they reunited in 1999 to release Ransberries refreshed, but

he did join the bond stage in 2004 to perform at a Cleveland House of Blues concert. And

the group briefly embarked on a mini tour in 2005. The group's final performance was

at Cleveland's key bank state theater in December 2007. Eric Carmen passed away at the age

of 74 again. No age. I know, um, no, a cause of death was given. That's kind of sad.

You know, when people you know, you grew up with and enjoyed their music and so forth

passed away. So we said. And so it is with Eric Carmen. Yeah, it was think of songs of

your youth. And you know, a lot of these rockers from the 60s and 70s are dying now because

they're turning into their 70s and 80s. I was surprised during the Academy Awards the

other night when Sean Lennon came on stage. I didn't know was Sean Lennon. There he is

out of the beard. Never the grown man. I took a picture of that little kid. Anyway, so

there was a short subject based on his father's and mother's song. War is over. Happy Christmas.

They made a little film about it. So he won an Academy Award. I guess he was one of

the producers. So he got the Academy Award. And he said in England, it was Happy Mother's

Day on Sunday. I guess it was Mother's Day in England. And he said, Happy Mother to

my mother, Yoko, who was 94 or something and 93, 94 years old. Whoa. Yeah, you know, I

don't they don't age in my head. And all of a sudden, Yoko was in her 90s. Whoa, that was

kind of his shocker. I mean, look at Paul McCarty. He's in his mid 80s. Now, so his ring

go star is mid 80s. They're still going. So Paul McCarty is still performing at concerts

all around the world. I guess he's going to eventually have to slow down. But ring go

to performing everywhere. Ringo does not look in his mid 80s. I think he was the oldest,

oldest of the Beatles, Ringo. I think he was the oldest one.

And came John and came Paul and George was the youngest one, I believe.

Yeah, they're all getting old. We're all getting old. And you know, my first radio station

wanted to do a reunion of the group of guys that was there. And they were like 12 or 14

guys worked at the station at the time. We're down to three. I said, we're going to have a reunion.

We could do it on the, on the phone on zoom. But yeah, everybody's going away. That's,

that's why I started the WRJ and historical marker series where we're talking to each one

of the people that worked here that are still around. And we're going to put it in,

in the archives at the Racine Library and also at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association

that quarters. They have a, on audio museum. So we're going to put it there and we will have a

record of all the people that work to WRJ and we just don't talk about their years here. We

talk about the people, you know, their career. And so you know, the person, they may be 50,

60 years from now when they want to know something about radio and WRJ and they can go back and

listen to what it was like. And we'll talk to as many people as we can. I still don't know

and it gets on a former owner of this nation. I told, we're starting with the oldest people first

because you guys are going to go first. He said, oh, thanks. So I'm first. I said, yeah, you're first.

But yeah, we've got some other people coming in. We've done five already and we got a lot to go.

And maybe next week we'll do another one. I'll ask someone to come in and we have Pete

Ferrand in the other day who was our afternoon announcer. One that I'm going to have, we had a

cancel it because the, his wife had a death in the family. We had a cancel it. Talking about

Terry Bond, Linda Bond, his wife had a death in the family. Terry passed away, but I know enough

about his career. Now we needed Linda to fill in the personal stuff, which I know some of,

but Terry and I have worked together for over 20 years. And I just, I want to get him in here

in our historical marker series. So yeah, people are going. Yeah, yeah, to preserve, you know,

the history. And I'm glad that the Racine Library is going to help us. And I'm glad that the

WBA, the Wisconsin broadcasters, Michelle Vetterkind is going to help us as well. I've got to have

her on talking about that audio museum someday. Because she's very good. It's very accessible.

She always wants to come on the air and talk about things that the WBA is up to. She's always

involved. She's the chairman. She's the head honcho over there in Madison. I think they're

right across from the state capital located now. So yeah, Eric Carmen, another one. Whereas the

Queen says another one bites the dust. All right. There's a new product on the market called

the Hand scanner. It's being described as a hand washing light detector. It's popping up in

fast food joints as a way to cut back on the spread of food, born illnesses and restaurants.

Looks like a mounted hairdryer. A worker places their hands under it after washing their hands,

palms up. And then palms down within two seconds to identify any residual contaminated using a

special safe non UV LED light. Of course, the customers don't see the hand scanner reports.

How about this? When you hand us the menu, we get your hand scanner report with it.

You hand us a piece of paper. Here's the scan. And so at least when we order of the menu,

we know if we're going to want you to touch any of our food. That sounds good.

All right, teachers are begging, begging parents to stop texting their kids while they're at school.

And it's usually for unimportant stuff too. Here's what the teachers say the kids are getting

text. Would you get on your test today? Or do you want hamburgers or chicken for dinner tonight?

This is stuff you're texting your kid while it's supposed to be learning. Yeah, I don't think

that's a good idea. A woman in the brisket figured out a glitch at a gas station is what you did.

She got free gas by swiping her rewards card twice. She was arrested accused of stealing more

than 27,000 gallons. I should say 27,000 dollars in gas over the past six months. Where is she

driving that she spent 27,000 dollars in gas over a six month period? What is she driving

crisscross across the country? Anyway, so she found a flaw in the system. Now if she told the gas

station owner, that's good for them. They can prevent it from happening again. 719, WRN,

hometown radio refreshed a civic media station.

Waves crash, baby. Don't look back. I won't walk away again.

Oh baby, where do you go? We are found together. I begin, baby. Where do you end?

I remember sickle in the sand. Never ending love is what we found. And you could read the heart of

me. Our love is all we need. Sickle in the sand, sickle in the sand, sickle in the sand,

no end to Carlisle. Remember who the goal goes?

Yeah, it's going to be a sunny, gorgeous day today. Highs near 67 degrees. Don't forget spring

starts in a week. Yeah, it's just about a week away. So yeah, we're going to start seeing

these temperatures. Officially, the Rosens put away the snow shovels and the salt yesterday.

Actually, my wife did all snow shovels were put away salt packed away for next year. We officially

are the clearing winter over. That's very dangerous. Because you know what happens.

Sunny today. Highs near 67. Part of cloudy tonight lows around 41. Partly sunny,

beautiful tomorrow. Highs near 47. And we're looking forward to the St. Patrick's Day Parade on

Saturday in Racine. We're looking for partly sunny weather with the high in the 50s. Love it.

Tonight, the by the way, it's clear in 52 degrees right now. The sun is coming up at the top of

the hour. I put my beak out the door. And I saw the sun coming up over the lake. Oh,

it looks so beautiful. We're so lucky to have that lake right there. And what's that sunrise

every day? Oh, yeah, it was so beautiful. All right, clear 52 degrees right now. It's sunny in 52,

actually. Tonight, the bucks will take on the Kings out in Sacramento game time, airtime 830 on

WRJN. All right. See how the bucks are doing with Doc Rivers these days, if they're getting any

better. Let's see, how about this lost and found a housekeeper at a hotel in Atlanta, Georgia

discovered $250,000 worth of cocaine inside a closet. The question becomes is it finders,

keepers, losers, weepers or now she turned it in. I didn't forget that. I didn't forget

that. I could see leaving a phone charger behind in the hotel room, maybe a pair of socks that

you took off and you had dropped on the floor. You couldn't see them, but $250,000 worth of cocaine.

How do you leave that in a closet and forget about it? Showbiz news. I remember the Super Mario

Brothers movie came out. I told Brett Hoffman from Marcus theaters. It's gonna be a flop.

Worse it was one of the biggest movies of the year. So it's getting a sequel in 2026. Super

Mario Brothers movie. The original version of dawn of the dead. That was the sequel to night

of the living dead returns to theaters to celebrate. It's get this 45th anniversary.

Also be a screening at the Monroeville mall in Pennsylvania. That's where they filmed it.

Wow. 45 years. I remember I saw that when it came out. Now it's 45 years.

All right. We all get old times change. All right.

Odd but true prior to the big pandemic. Disneyland in California only closed three times in history.

The National Day of Morning for JFK in 1963. After the earthquake in Northridge, California in 1994

and on September 11th, 2001, was then closed for 13 months during the pandemic from March of 2020

to April of 2021. In other words, it was closed three days in 65 years and 412 days,

last three years. I mentioned earlier. The pandemic was declared a pandemic by the world.

Health organization four years ago. Four years ago. A 14 year old girl in San Diego named Leanne

Fan. Recently was named America's top young scientist. She wanted $25,000 grant for inventing

headphones for kids. They use blue light therapy to treat ear infections.

Now this was a smart family. Here's just a carer on that same prize in 2019 for a new type of

spray on bandage that treats infections without using antibiotics. Whoa. Look at the gene pool in

that family. A man spent three weeks in the hospital with car crash like injuries after he tripped

over his cat. The cat had jumped into his leg, causing him to fall over and down to fly the stairs.

The cat, by the way, was absolutely fine. No problems with the cat. But true, Google decided to

create Google image search in 2000 after Jennifer Lopez wore her famous green dress at the Grammy

Awards. There were more searches for pictures of her in the dress than anything before.

Founders realized they needed the way to search for pictures only. So Google image search became

a reality all because Jennifer Lopez green dress. I remember that green dress, by the way.

I don't think I looked it up, but I just remembered the average diet fails in 59 hours. That means

if you start your diet with breakfast on a Monday morning, odds are it'll be done by dinner Wednesday.

38% of women say they start about 12 diets a year. The fail guys just won't mess up to how many

they start and fail. You're five weird things that can make people dislike you. It's hard to believe

people could dislike you, but they can opening up way too much when you first meet somebody

asking too many questions, doing too many favors, playing hard to get and posting too many selfies.

I always kind of tell everything about myself when I meet somebody because I'm a talker.

It's an occupational hazard. I just like to talk. A study ranked the most popular amusement parks

in the world based on how many people go there every year. So you're thinking of doing some

amusement parks this summer. Number one, the Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Florida.

Disneyland in California. Number two, Tokyo Disneyland in Japan. Number three,

Universal Studios Japan. Number four and Tokyo Disney C in Japan. Boy Japan likes those

like those amusement parks, don't they? Wine glasses have gotten bigger. 700% bigger over the past

three centuries from an average of 2.2 ounces in the 1800s. The 15.2 ounces today,

those sneaky wine makers making bigger glasses to make us drink more. You know what? I think it's working.

Here are five ways to de-stress after a long week that do not involve alcohol. This is good news.

Take a break from technology. Get some exercise. Take a hobby or work on a project. Try meditation

or listen to the radio. Music you like. Yeah. It's interesting that get away from technology.

At night, what I do now, I put my phone away in the bedroom and I can't hear it. When I'm relaxing,

I just don't want to be involved with my cell phone. So I put it away in the bedroom and

not involved with it. Hey, you want to go see in concert country platinum artist,

country artist Riley Green is coming to the state fair main stage on Wednesday, August 7th. If you

like to go, I got a pair of tickets. We got a whole bunch of pairs here waiting for you at 262-634-9756-262-634-WRJN.

You give me a call right now. I'll give you a pair of tickets because he Riley Green in concert

at the main stage of the Wisconsin State Fair Wednesday, August 7th. 729 at WRJN Radio,

hometown radio refreshed, a civic media station.

I was making pancakes the other day and a fly flew into the kitchen.

And that's when I realized that a spatula is a lot like a fly swatter.

And a crushed fly is a lot like a blueberry.

And a roommate is a lot like a fly eater.

I think it's interesting that Cologne rhymes with alone.

If I have to move up in a building, I choose the elevator over the escalator.

Because one time I was riding the escalator and I tripped.

I fell down the stairs for an hour and a half.

He's kept falling.

Thanks, I say it right.

I think employee of the month is a good example of when a person can be a winner and a loser at the same time.

I'll be alone each and every night while you're away. Don't forget to write.

See you in September.

See you when the summer's soon.

Here we are.

If you could buy a good buy at the stand.

If you could buy some of it can't be.

You're taking away every good time.

But remember,

there is danger in the summer when a bride will rise to you in September.

In 736 to WRJ and radio, I mentioned before I mentioned, again, Molly Jones, our second district

older person was supposed to be here today. She's a little under the weather.

So she'll be here next Wednesday instead.

Now tomorrow we have another candidate for the second district.

Tyler Townsend will be here at 7am and we'll give him the third degree grilling.

No, we won't do that.

We will talk to Tyler Townsend.

We'll get to know who he is.

A lot of people not familiar with Tyler Townsend, but we'll get to know who he is.

I think the elections coming up in April, beginning of April, first Tuesday and April.

And we will, it'll be between Molly Jones and Tyler Townsend for the second

automatic district. And of course, we have another contest in the fourth automatic district

between two candidates as well. Mr. Mac and Ms. Schrader are running in the fourth district.

So we'll talk to our two candidates in the second district coming up beginning tomorrow.

And Molly Jones will be here with us next Wednesday.

And she'll feel better.

I wanted to be a hundred percent.

I don't want her, you know, it's, however, I remember when I had to take a test in school.

And I think it was the SATs.

And I didn't feel good.

And I remember putting my head on the desk just filling out anything,

anything just to get out of that place and just go home and go to bed.

But I felt terrible and I filled it all out.

And I wound up doing pretty good.

I got it to three.

I got accepted by all three colleges that I applied to.

I got into that's a lot of society.

So obviously just guessing at the things worked that better.

So worked that well for me.

All right.

What have we got for you here today?

I got a whole bunch of stuff to talk about.

I don't know where to start.

All right, let's talk about shopping on company time.

Now tell me you've never done that before.

Have you ever gone on eBay to buy things or maybe Amazon or maybe your favorite store you

went online to?

All right, 64% of us have shopped online during our lunch break.

43% of us shop at work when we get bored.

8% of shop during a conference call.

3% of shop during a meeting.

How do you get away with that?

I mean, this isn't, we're not talking about Zoom meetings.

We talk about meetings where you're in person.

I mean, how does it get away with that?

35% have gotten sidetracked by an ad while searching online for something work related.

Seven minutes of what their whole goal is.

17% of shopped at work with a coworker was also shopping.

13% of us have had to stay late or work from home because we got so behind

because we were shopping online at the office.

11% of us have ignored a phone call at work.

We're too busy shopping.

We couldn't be interrupted.

6% have missed a meeting or a deadline at work because we were shopping online.

And 36% of us have taken a vacation day or a sick day just to go shopping.

Okay, I guess we like shopping.

I can't say I never saw people at work here doing it.

There were people here used to shop online while they were at work.

I know in another radio station I worked at.

Although I worked from home most of the time I didn't go in there.

And the person in charge was shopping online at her desk.

It happens.

Okay, fun fact.

When Disneyland first opened,

this is Disneyland out in California.

That you had a lingerie shop on Main Street in Disneyland.

Six months later it was gone.

Yeah, who goes to Disneyland to go buy lingerie?

All right, it's technically illegal to watch the Super Bowl on a TV larger than 56 inches.

Now we have done it.

However, the cops probably won't bust you if you do it, but you can't do it.

I'm big as my TV.

I don't think my TV is 55 inches.

How they going to enforce that law?

Are here three incredibly dangerous things you're fast enough to run away from?

Spiders.

We cannot run spiders.

Lava.

We cannot do lava.

And any land animal on earth.

And for the last one, you can't out sprint every animal,

but humans can run longer than animals.

So you'll need a head start just to keep running.

But you know what they always tell you, you don't have to run faster than a bear.

You just have to run faster than your friend who's also running from the bear.

That's mean.

I'd be true.

And with taxes coming up due on April 15th, the IRS requires you to pay taxes on money you get

illegally.

So let's say your robber bank sell drugs to make credit card fraud or anything else.

And you get caught and you get audited and you haven't paid up.

You get in trouble with the IRS.

It's odd, but true.

Yeah, you have to pay taxes on that money or robbed or drugged your soul.

I thought I'd get you.

That's like an alcohol poem.

He had all these illegal operations and he wasn't paying tax on them.

That's exactly how they said in the prison.

They found out the job he said he had, he couldn't possibly have lived on that job.

The money from that job.

So they found out all this illegal boot lagging money.

He never paid taxes on and they sent him to prison for it.

That's that's how they got him.

Here's a feel good story.

A guy in New Jersey posted a sad video of a Walmart worker named Nola.

He's well-passed retirement age, but couldn't afford to retire just yet.

So he started to go fund me page and surprised her after people donated $110,000.

She was surprised and grateful.

However, she said she still had to work a little bit longer because she still owed $170,000

on her house and couldn't retire just yet.

But then a go fund me page passed $180,000.

So Nola will be able to retire now.

She'll have enough to pay off the house and she can relax in a retirement.

From the aren't their parents proud file for a very important world record,

just recently got broken.

A guy in Illinois put 509 landards around his neck, a 20-year-old in the UK

solved 6,931 Rubik's cubes in 24 hours, and a bunch of big bearded dudes in Wyoming

tied their beards together and made a 100-foot long beard chain and set a new world record.

I didn't know they had a world record for that.

Aren't their parents proud?

The Rubik's Cube won.

The land-yered one, that's iffy, but tying your beards together.

Sounds painful too.

All right.

Your tax dollar is hard to work here.

The US Senate has a tradition going back to 1968 called the Candy Desk.

It's where one senator sits in a specific seat near the door,

keeps a desk door full of candy for other members.

And you'll wonder where your tax dollars are going.

I wonder if they make the taxpayers pay for the candy.

Two people in Oklahoma pulled over in a stolen car.

The cops also found a gun, an open bottle of whiskey, and a rattlesnake,

along with a canister of radioactive uranium.

They were both arrested on several charges.

The cops trying to figure out what they planned to do with that radioactive uranium.

Would you buy radioactive uranium?

Survey found half of us have a favorite parent.

Moms are almost three times more popular than dads.

I never had a favorite parent, although I related to my mother more, I think.

My dad too.

I just said, but you know, when you had a problem, you ran to mom.

And I, you know, they say when people die on the battlefield in a war,

one of their last things they do is cry out for their mother.

They don't cry out for their father.

They cry out for their mother.

I watched these police videos and this woman was being arrested for drunk driving

or whatever nonsense she was involved in.

And they were putting her in handcuffs.

And while they're putting her in handcuffs and pulling her out, she's screaming,

mom, mom, mom, they never scream for their father.

They scream for their mother.

This happens on the battlefield all the time.

Kids are so obsessed with their gadgets now.

Almost half a parent say they sometimes punish their kids by confiscating their phones

and iPads and punish them by letting them watch TV instead.

And that's something.

I remember going sent to my room, no TV for the night.

Never had, you know, because there's nothing else they could take away.

They didn't do it often.

They only once or twice in my life.

What do you think of this?

Someone charged their wedding guests $125 admission

and served things like hot dogs as appetizers.

Would you pay to go to somebody's wedding?

Well, we give them a gift, but that's not an admission fee.

Uber, expanding their service,

where you can pay a little bit extra so your driver won't talk to you at all.

Otherwise, what is he going to talk your head off?

How many followers do you need on social media to be famous?

According to an advertising regulator, you need 30,000 followers.

A woman is attempted to collect one million losing lottery tickets to set a world record.

Here's something I found out.

I used to buy lottery tickets at a particular gas station this years and years ago.

And when you did use lottery numbers and you found out you lost,

he asked you to put it in a bucket,

the losing ticket.

And I once asked why I said because his mother

takes those losing tickets and writes it off her taxes, which, you know,

technically illegal because it's not her money she spent.

But you can write gambling losses off.

So if you really do a lot of gambling,

you know, with a lottery and scratchers, you know, all that kind of stuff,

you can write that off your taxes.

So he used to collect these buckets of lottery tickets to losing one for power ball tickets

and give him to his mother and she added it up and deducted from her taxes.

I used to put him in the bucket.

But you're really helping an illegal activity because she didn't spend the money.

So she shouldn't be able to write it off her taxes.

64% of us hate Mondays.

Not a surprise.

The top things we do get through Mondays are drinking extra coffee and listening to music.

But music gets us through everything, doesn't it?

My wife Mondays, oh, I guess because you're coming off a weekend.

I don't think once I'm here, I'm fine.

It's the thought on Sunday night of having to wake up at, you know,

430 in the morning to come in.

That gets me.

But once I'm here, I mean another radio day is like another radio day.

Here are five things guys say that make women angry.

You're ready for this?

Guys write these down because you shouldn't be saying these to anybody.

Especially when your wife or girlfriend is angry.

Calm down.

I don't like when people say that to me.

Do you really need to buy that?

Why are you so upset?

That wouldn't bother me.

Brother, I'll do it.

Stop nagging me.

I've said that before.

I don't use the word nagging.

How do I use the word nagging?

I do say that sometimes.

Stop.

I'll do it.

Stop asking me over and over.

Maybe I use the word nagging.

I'm not sure.

And anything you compare to one of your exes,

like to say, she, when I dated my girlfriend, she never did that.

Oh, that's one of the worst things you could possibly say.

Sunny today with a high near 67 degrees.

Part of cloudy tonight lows around 41.

Now look for tomorrow.

Partly sunny with a high near 47 right now.

We have sunshine 52 degrees.

It is gorgeous tonight.

The box at Sacramento to take on the Kings and NBA play.

830 right here at WRJN.

We're at 99.9 FM 98.1 FM 1400 AM.

We're hometown radio refreshed.

This is a civic media station.

We cover the entire state of Wisconsin,

including our own little area of Racine and Kenosha with WRJN.

I hear a voice in my mind.

I know her face by heart.

Heaven and earth are moving in my soul.

I don't know where to start.

Tell me, tell me the words to be defined.

The way I feel about someone so fine.

How do you talk to an angel?

How do you hold a close to where you are?

How do you talk to an angel?

It's like trying to catch a fallen star.

That was the theme song to a TV show.

Is it the heights?

I know that's an end of the group.

I know that was a TV show theme.

I can't remember it though.

I feel about someone so fine.

How do you talk to an angel?

How do you hold a close to where you are?

Yeah, the TV show was called The Heights.

I just looked it up.

So I didn't know it.

I didn't know I knew it.

It's 7.52 in WRJN.

Again, Molly Jones, our second district

altar was supposed to be here today.

Little under the weather, she'll be here next Wednesday.

Tomorrow, the other candidate

with a second district altar seat.

And I'm getting used to saying

older instead of older men or all the person.

Tyler Townsend will be here 7 o'clock tomorrow morning.

You know, everyone says,

money can't buy happiness.

Remember the Beatles can't buy me love.

Yeah, all right.

At least they until they win a billion dollars,

then all of a sudden it can't buy happiness.

In a new experiment, 200 people were given $10,000 to spend.

Researchers claim it did buy happiness

because the people at a higher happiness level.

Even months after the money was gone.

Money can buy happiness, but money can't buy you love.

Because the Beatles said so.

And the survey on family gatherings, one in three people,

fake smile to pretend to enjoy a relative's cooking.

Two in five do it to pretend to like a gift.

I have done it.

I have fake smiled.

Not a food though.

Because I'm pretty clear to people

that if I don't like something, I'll tell them.

Not the way they cooked it, but if they serve like broccoli,

and I don't want it, I wouldn't fake smile that.

But I have fake smile on gifts before.

Just so my wife and my son and my daughter know,

nothing you have ever given me that I fake smile at.

It's been a genuine smile.

It really has been.

So your gifts are always welcome and I love them.

A couple in northern Canada noticed that one hummingbird in the yard

hadn't flown south for the winter.

They knew it wouldn't survive.

So they managed to trap it.

And they get this.

They didn't keep it in their house and take care of it for the winter.

They drove it 500 miles south before setting it free.

Wow.

There's a nature lover.

You would think you'd just keep it in your house.

A nice warm environment and keep the hummingbird in there.

Give them that little sweet syrupy thing.

They like to stick their beaks into.

They actually got in the car and drove it 500 miles south.

And set it free.

I think the hummingbird knew where to go.

Once it got there.

Whoever they dropped it off.

A couple of Minnesota celebrated their 10th

anniversary with a road trip.

Stopping at crater of diamonds.

State Park in ours in Arkansas.

There they found a 1.9 carrot diamond in the dirt.

I got to tell my wife we got to go there.

Why don't we go there and look in the dirt for for diamonds?

Meanwhile, the guy in Texas immediately proposed to his girlfriend

after finding her engagement ring in tornado rubble.

It was under two inches of dirt.

But he found it.

I'm thinking of going to crater of diamond state park in Arkansas.

I've been to Arkansas once.

Here's how we went.

We went to Branson, Missouri.

Took a train ride and we dipped our toes in Arkansas.

Didn't do much there.

Just dipped our toes there and then went back to Branson.

But now that no crater of diamond state park is there.

Is walk around and pick up diamonds?

Is it that easy?

People are more impatient than ever.

New research says half of all customers will not wait more than three minutes

without being helped.

That's me.

I'm the most impatient person.

I know my mother always said that about me.

There's some impatient.

Here are some of the most common little things we argue about at home.

Leaving the lights on all the time and wasting electricity.

Leaving the TV on.

Leaving windows open and messing with the thermostat.

My wife doesn't like me messing with the thermostat.

When she comes home, did you change the thermostat?

Today she always asked me about the thermostat.

Did you change the thermostat?

And I'm always bothering her with the TV because we have a smart TV.

We can watch the internet.

Did you change it back to regular TV or just leave it there?

So between the thermostat and the TV, yeah.

What do you say when you pretend to like a bad gift?

All right, here are some of the go-to reactions.

A simple thank you.

You didn't like the gift.

But say thank you for the gift.

Oh, I love it.

Wow, you're so sweet.

That's incredible.

What made you think of this?

But you don't say it like that.

Say, what made you think of this?

Not what made you think of this?

I've always wanted one of these.

Yeah, right.

Didn't know that's a fake expression.

Repeating the name of the gift.

Oh, look at this.

You got me a bubble gum maker.

A bubble gum maker.

And opening the gift and then gasping.

Yeah, I've gotten gifts, Richie.

I didn't like them.

I just didn't need them.

And I had no want to use them.

But you always go when you open.

Oh, you get it.

I've done that before.

And then I put it in the closet and

if I get a gift, I don't like.

Sometimes my wife will take in and use it.

And she'll find a good use for it.

And you know, I recently got a camera.

It's an outdoor camera.

And I didn't use it.

But my wife decided to use it and film nature at night

when we're sleeping.

See what's going on in the backyard with all those critters back there.

And now I love the camera.

Now I found that now it's a good use.

But my wife took ownership of it kind of.

And so she sit out in the backyard last night.

Once you get home today,

we'll pop the little disk in our big screen TV

in our regular TV.

You can put it right in there.

And we'll watch all the critters running around the yard

in the middle of the night.

You can't believe what's going on in your backyard at night.

Possums, all these animals, cats and dogs and everything.

Barely cats and the possums back there.

They're the daytime, squirrels and rabbits.

All the type of stuff going on in your backyard.

And you don't even know it.

I'm Don Rosen.

Enjoy your day.

All right.

We're back tomorrow morning.

6 a.m.

Right nearly with more right here at Civic Media's WRTN.

hometown radio refreshed.
