Some technology is great, though. I love my cell phone, you know. Not only can I communicate
mobily, but it sucks all the grease right off my face. Have you seen that? Yeah. Every
time I get up and fall, I'm like, is there a crystal in my ear? Disgusting. You know,
I need to clean my phone. I don't, I don't, I just rub it on my pants. That's what I do.
Oh, you do it too. You do it too. You rub it on your pants in between the text messages.
You're rubbing it on your pants. Yeah, I'm still here. I'm exfoliating. How are you?
I'm cleansing.
There is a house in your house. The cold rise in summer. And it's been the ruin of
the world.
Good morning and welcome to President's Day at WRJN at 607 now on a Monday holiday
morning.
When did they combine Washington's birthday and Lincoln's birthday to make President's
day? Do you remember when? Because they used to be separate at one time.
Oh, the answer was 1971. It used to be separate. We just have Lincoln's birthday and Washington's
birthday. And they just made it a Monday holiday called President's Day. And that was the end of that.
So this is a holiday today. I don't think any mail out of the banks are open. Oh, man, I brought
something to be cash today. I guess, I guess I didn't going to happen today. All right.
The website put together a list of the weirdest trivia about every president. Benjamin Harrison refused to touch
light switches. I think that was the first time electricity was in the White House. It was afraid he was going to get a
shock and die. Calvin Coolidge enjoyed having his scalp massaged with Vaseline. No, I business. Whatever he wants. He
wants to get some other ones here too. Who was the smartest president now means smarts by IQ? Who is the
smartest president? Well, at a score of 175, Harvard graduate, John Quincy Adams had the highest
estimated IQ of all presidents. He studied all around the world, becoming fluent in seven languages
throughout his life without even completing law school. He became a lawyer. Which president weighed the
least. This is really interesting. Taft was the heaviest president at three hundred forty pounds.
James Madison was the lightest president. He only weighed a hundred pounds. Now, you might know somebody
who weighs a hundred pounds. I know somebody who weighs a hundred and three pounds. And she is very,
very slight, very, you know, small. James Madison, a hundred pounds. The average way to the president
has been one hundred eighty two pounds. Well, that's interesting.
Which president had fifteen children that was John Tyler, the most prolific of all American presidents,
fifteen children and two wives. Woodrow Wilson is the only president buried in Washington, D.C. at the
National Cathedral. Warren Harding was the first president to visit Alaska in Canada. Calvin Coolidge was the only
president sworn in by a former president, Chief Justice William Howard Taft.
You find that all these interesting things when you look up stuff about the presidents. This is interesting
to three presidents all died on the 4th of July. I know what it is. It doesn't say it here though,
but I know there were three of them that died. Two on the same day, July 4th, 1826. Today,
there would have been tons of conspiracy theories about that. But there was one president,
unanimously elected. Who was that? Judge Washington with 69 of the 69 first round votes cast
in the United States Electoral College. He's the only US president to begin unanimously chosen.
You know, everybody says, well, who's the greatest president? Well, I got this. I said this to my brother last
night, only because he's not very big on history. I guess there was a ranking done. I got this
off Fox News. There was a ranking done of all the presidents. They were asked respondents to rank
the president. These are experts in history on a scale of zero to 100 was zero being a failure,
50 being the average and 100 being great. Rounding out the top five and the rankings were Franklin
Delano Roosevelt at number two. George Washington at number three, three door, three door
Roosevelt, Theodore Rose, Edmund speak here. Theodore Roosevelt at number four. Thomas Jefferson at number five
and number one, Abraham Lincoln Donald Trump ranked last in the survey being ranked worse than James
Buchanan at 44 Andrew Johnson at 43 Franklin Pierce at 42 and William Henry Harrison at 41.
Now, I was thought the George Washington was a great president. I don't know why this is this is a lot of people
know this about him, but in this fact, he was offered to be king of America. Don't forget England ran
America one time and they had a monarchy. We didn't have presidents around. They just they thought
well, he'll be king of America and George Washington turned them down. He said, I won't be your king,
but I will be your president for limited time. Could you imagine if he would have said yes to being
king, this whole country would have been different. It would have been like England. And he turned it
down. So good, good for George Washington. That's why I think he's one of the greatest. Of course, Abraham Lincoln,
I can't dispute him being the greatest president. I mean, this guy, if you went to the Lincoln,
and we talked about this with gentleman who's the president of the root 66 organization, Illinois,
on root 66 in Springfield, Illinois, just off root 66 is the Lincoln presidential library and
museum. He got to go there sometime and allow about four to five hours to go through there,
because you think you'd be done in one hour, two hours. No, no, you won't be done. And you
won't want to leave. It is so magnificent what they did. And you get to learn about this man.
This man took it personal, the presidency. And that's why he was ranked number one Abraham Lincoln.
Okay, so it's president state today and enjoy it. If you have the day off, a lot of people do. I don't.
So here I am. All right. And also on the one more thing on president's day here among the Americans
who would want to be president 63% said their performance would be much better or a little better than the average
president. Only seven percent think they'd perform worse. We'll never know with me because I wouldn't want the job.
Who much stress? Who wants that? I have enough stress. I don't need the presidency. And don't forget,
when you're the president, 50% of the people are going to hate your guts. And who wants that?
You get that in radio. Why would I want to do that and be the come to president?
Coming up this morning at 706, Mark Eichner is going to be here conductor of the Racine Concert Band.
They have a concert coming up at tour the high school. We're going to talk about that.
And a little bit of the history of the Racine Concert Band. I brought my Del Eich book in today.
Del Eich recently passed away wrote a book and the band played on. I think that's the name of it.
I got it right in front of me here when I just look at it. It's called.
And the band played on just like I said by Del Eich. He did the complete history at the hard bound book of the Racine Concert Band.
And I'm going to ask him. I went to a concert recently of second through fifth graders.
I'm going to ask him how difficult it is to teach children the playing instrument because my wife is currently teaching me to play piano.
And it's hard.
It's harder than I, you know, I learned how to play trumpet once for about a month.
And then I got thrown out of the band at my grammar school. I threw it literally threw me out.
And then I did drums. They did drums for a while in the band, but that's, it was all right.
I took private music lessons too and I just couldn't hack it.
I guess their thing is when I look at a sheet of music, I see dots on the page.
When people like Mark Eichner look at that same sheet, they see music. And I think that's the difference.
He doesn't see dots. He sees music. I see the dots. Anyway, we'll talk to Mark Eichner coming in at 706 tomorrow.
It's going to be an interesting show. I've got these two people coming in.
And Heidi Williams is going to be here. They run a video rental store.
He said, video rent. They're still around. Well, these are just one around.
We're going to talk to them. I think it's interesting.
They have thousands and thousands of not only DVDs and Blu-rays and 4Ks, but also VHS for rental.
People renting them. People are buying them.
I went in there and there are a lot of people around buying.
So there must be some market for it. Anyway, we'll talk to them coming up.
And that'll be at tomorrow morning at 706 or at WRJN.
Well, dictionary dot com added 327 new words in terms, including bed rotting mid the Ick bus in curl dinner and
check it. That last one is a mashup between shirt and jacket.
But the one that really got me was bed rotting. The practice of spending many hours in bed during the day,
often with snacks or electronic device as a voluntary retreat from activity or stress.
And we kind of all do that. Don't we? I just don't like the name bed rotting.
I would like it, you know, bed relaxation or, you know, I just something with that bed rotting at it.
And I like that. Two Republican lawmakers introduced a bill that would prohibit the sale of cold beer in the state of Tennessee.
It's already cleared two hurdles in the state.
There's still more debate on it before it goes up for a vinyl vote.
Now, if you're thinking it's strange.
What they're doing is trying to tackle an important issue.
The goal is to curb drunk driving and reduce deadly crashes involved the alcohol.
Drinking a driving is already illegal in Tennessee, but you can have it open container in the vehicle.
As long as you don't invite on it, in other words, drink it.
I guess their theory is if you can't buy cold beer, you're not going to drink warm beer and drive.
Oh, yeah.
I never had a beer in my life. So I don't know, but I would imagine warm beer is not very tasty and not refreshing.
So that's what they're doing. And so it's not as strange or crazy as you might think it is.
I don't think it's going to pass.
That's just my opinion.
Guy, you know, I wasn't looking forward to Valentine's Day after his girlfriend broke up with him.
That was sad.
Three days later, he got dumped.
He bought a lottery ticket.
Hit for $1 million.
No word on whether his ex is regretting her decision to break up with him.
Interesting.
Hey, we've got tickets to give away to the state fair today.
We're giving away to a concert.
And this is a funny guy.
We have some comedy we should play from them too.
It's really glaci as hits the main stage Thursday, August 1st.
You can win a pair of tickets this morning right here on WRJN.
Stay right where you are.
I'm Don Rose at a civic media station.
Home town radio refreshed where we're looking for a partly sunny day in a high near 42.
Right now, a clear sky in 26 degrees.
You understand?
She don't like it.
I wish you could.
Good morning at 621 at WRJN radio, partly sunny with a higher 42 today.
Part of clotty loads around 30 tonight.
Sunny with a higher 46 tomorrow.
By now, we've got a clear sky in 26 degrees at WRJN radio.
Home town radio refreshed.
Elementary school in Santa Carolina did a weird Valentine's Day fundraiser the other day to support the 4-H club.
They put out four buckets with a different school officials name on each one and people could drop money in it.
Now, whoever's bucket raised the most money, they had to kiss a cow.
Remember, this is for 4-H now.
Kiss a cow on Valentine's Day.
Well, that person ended up being the school's principal is a good sport.
He embraced the challenge, put some lipstick on and planted a big kiss right on the cow's nose.
It's a guy.
I like that fundraiser.
We should do that around here.
Put different buckets out with Catherine Lakes named on it.
Sage Wiles named on it.
Chris Marles name on it.
These are all people who run the company.
We should put their names on it.
And they got a kiss.
Oh, can't be a cow.
Yeah.
Well, Pam Yankee or farm director coming in.
Bring an animal in him for him to kiss.
That should be fun.
Odd but true.
There's a museum of failure.
It is.
It's in Sweden.
It showcases hundreds of failed products.
It shows how innovation requires risk taking and failure.
I just don't like the name of it.
A museum of failure.
Sounds like you're a loser during that museum.
Hey, Paul McCartney to hear about this is long lost.
Base guitar has been located and returned 50 years after was stolen.
This is the guitar you saw him play on the Ed Sullivan show, all the other shows in the
early 60s.
This is a guitar he actually recorded.
Love me do.
I want to hold your hand in all the early beetle hits on.
So it was stolen.
I didn't even know that.
It's called the most important base guitar in history because it was used to recreate
and record so many beetle songs.
Members were able to track it down and got a hold of the original thief.
We'll let them to the person who saw who they he sold it to from there.
They tracked it down and finally was located in the attic of a home on the south coast
of England.
The homeowner didn't even know the history of the guitar.
Then days was back in Paul's possession.
And it's incredibly grateful to have it back.
Now it's not a great condition, but he can have it restored.
I didn't know he had his guitar stolen.
I never heard that story before.
That's interesting.
46 year old woman in Florida arrested on Tuesday after she smacked her son so hard
that she broke his glasses causing cuts to his face.
Reportedly she got upset when he called her a bugger face.
I never called my mother names.
I wouldn't call her a bugger face.
The show business of us just alone thinks that Ryan Gosling could be the next
Rambo.
Ridley Scott's directing a movie about the bg's that I'd like to see.
Rod Stewart sold his song catalog for a hundred million dollars.
That's going on around a lot lately.
Everybody selling their song catalogs off at a John Wick experience.
Whatever that means will open in Las Vegas later this year.
I know the movie John Wick.
I don't know what the John Wick experience would entitle.
All right.
Some more odd but true.
Britney Spears and president Gerald Ford are 19th cousins.
The two the two longest running live action sitcoms and TV history are the
adventures of Aussie and Harriet ran for 14 years.
It's always sunny in Philadelphia.
19 years 20 years for that thing.
2021 something like that.
More than half of the people say they sometimes go to a cheap or generic
option when they're buying something to save money.
But there are some things they're not willing to compromise on.
Toilet paper has to be brand name stuff.
Got to have the brand name mattresses.
Same thing coffee, Wi-Fi speed and chocolate.
You know, if you buy generic chocolate, you know it.
You could taste a difference.
There was no love made it.
There's no loving it.
You could taste.
There was minus love.
How about medicines too?
You like to buy the generic medicines?
I don't.
I buy the brand name stuff.
Now, I have some store brand ibuprofen in my medicine cabinet.
And I also have motrin.
And when I need it, I don't go to the store brand.
I got a motrin.
I just can't take the store brand.
I mean, I can do it if it's only there.
It doesn't bother me.
But when I really, really need it, I take the store brands,
the brand name stuff.
A survey has people if their state is usually rudder or more polite
than most Americans.
All right.
26% of people say that people in their state are more polite.
19% say they're rudder.
46% said, that's the same.
I don't know how you can tell that.
13-year-old girl near Detroit,
one of the essay contests put on by Petco,
that came with a $50,000 grand prize.
She got the money.
And now she's donating all of it to her local cat shelter.
There's the future of America folks right there.
Isn't that great?
A 40-year-old guy in Ohio was playing guitar
and singing loudly at 130 in the morning.
His neighbor's called the cops on him.
He told him he could not turn the volume down,
because quote, you can't play Led Zeppelin quietly.
And they say he'd be charged with disorderly conduct
if he tried it again.
A woman who thought she saw a human toe
in a garden called the cops figured out it was a potato.
The first thing I thought about was when this
on rear window in the Jimmy Stewart movie
when they were going to dig up the body.
And they didn't find it.
But that's what I was thinking of.
They found a toe.
Let's see what else we got here.
There's some more odd bit.
There's a fake McDonald's in the city of industry
in Southern California.
It's used just for making TV commercials.
Most of the McDonald's ads you've seen were shot in that building.
All right.
More president's stuff today on this president's day.
Thomas Jefferson chosen to write the Declaration of Independence
over Benjamin Franklin.
Members thought that they were afraid Franklin
would sneak a joke into the Constitution.
So they didn't let him write it.
It would actually take five minutes for a rag-so-clariform,
soaked in chloroform to knock someone unconscious.
Takes two seconds in the movies.
They just put the rag over your face and you're out.
But in real life, no, takes about five minutes to do that.
Of course, we all know the movies are so accurate, don't we?
You ever see the movie or the Broadway musical 1776
about the signing of the Declaration of Independence?
That's a good, good movie to rent.
Or see, I know it's tough to rent movies,
but that's a good movie.
TCM shows it every fourth of July.
Turner Classic movies.
So if you have TCM, you should watch that.
You'll see how there I'm sure there's, you know,
it's a musical.
So I'm sure they took some literary license
when they put that together.
Guy in San Francisco lost the password
to get into his Bitcoin digital wallet.
What do you hear this story?
It's worth $234 million after 10 wrong guesses at the password.
The drive-fold encrypt forever.
He's already guessed wrong eight times.
He's only got two more shots at it.
If he misses on these two times, he is out.
$234 million forever.
And since Bitcoin is decentralized,
there's no get my lost keys option.
You either know your stuff or you're out of luck.
Isn't that something, huh?
Wow.
Wow.
$234 million.
I get nervous when I'm checking something online
and I put it the wrong password.
I might start shaking.
Then it locked me out.
I have to get back on Facebook right away.
This guy's got $234 million at stake.
Okay.
All right, one more here, real quickly.
Someone in Texas tried to get rid of their Christmas tree
but I put it in their fireplace.
The fire spread to the living room.
They had to call the fire department.
The entire house burned down.
Why would you do that?
$26.29 at WRJN, partly sunny with a high of 42 today.
Partly cloudy, low 30 tonight.
Sunny gorgeous.
We're 46 tomorrow.
Right now, a clear sky in 26 degrees.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
I want to post a looking for Creed Bratt.
It's a former member of the grass roots.
I don't know if these sang in any of their hits songs.
I'm not sure.
It may have been temptation, but later on, he left the group.
I'm taste of a love that you've been hiding.
It's just a question of time before you make up your mind.
And give all my love.
You've been the night.
You've been looking for love.
You've been looking for love.
You've been looking for love.
You've been looking for love.
635 in WRGN, partly sunny with Hunter 42 today.
Part to cloudy tonight, lows around 30.
Sunshine tomorrow with Hunter 46.
Wow, 50 degrees on Wednesday.
That looks good.
Clear in 26 right now.
I think I'm going to put all the salt thing I have on my porch.
Are they going to put those buckets of salt away?
I don't think we're going to need them.
Of course, as soon as I do that,
I knew today was going to be a strange day because I hit every red light.
On the way in this morning, except one.
Every red light I had to stop at.
And I said, this is not going to be a good day today.
We'll see.
It's still early.
All right, 636 to WRGN.
We have Mark Eichner from the Racine Concert van coming in this morning at 706.
Talk about their concert coming up at or look high school.
All right.
All right.
This is a question I'm going to ask tomorrow to our two guests who are,
oh, have what I think is the last video rental store in Racine or at least one of them.
What was the last movie ever released on VHS in America?
After that, no more VHS cassettes were made.
It was a movie called Eragon.
I kind of remembered it was in 2010, 2007.
I have to look it up to find out more about it.
The first live sporting event broadcast on ESPN.
What do you think it was?
Football, baseball, hockey, basketball.
Nope.
A professional softball game in 1979 between the Kentucky bourbons and the Milwaukee Schlitz.
There you go.
That's how they got started at a very, you know, unmemorable, unmemorable event.
How often do you clean your cell phones?
Now, we had the comedian talk about this earlier about all the grease and oil on your cell phone.
According to this survey, 26% of people clean their cell phones daily.
44% clean them weekly and monthly.
8% never clean them.
And if you want some motivation to get on that train to study at the University of Arizona,
once found there are phones have 10 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.
And you put them right against your cheek when you talk.
If you've made your mission to have a better 2024,
here are some tips to have a happier one and a more positive year.
Train yourself to start thinking more positively first thing in the morning.
Find ways to fill your day with as many positive thoughts as possible
and hang with people who make you happy.
I do.
I hang with my wife in the morning.
She makes me very happy.
64% of Americans say they regret not handling their money better.
The top bad financial habits we picked up during the pandemic,
which we're still holding on to, impulse buying on things we don't need.
Paying for subscription services, we don't use anymore.
That's how streaming became big.
Everybody was home.
They couldn't go to the movies couldn't go anywhere.
So they started buying these streaming services and now they're stuck with them.
Not comparing prices to look for a better deal.
Only paying the minimum balance on credit cards,
not paying attention to our credit score, not sticking to a budget,
missing credit card or bill payments and not doing enough saving.
Who's the most rich?
Who's not the most?
Who's the richest person in the world?
You know what it is?
Zealine Musk.
He's got a fortune of $185 billion.
Jeff Bezos, the Amazon guy is in second with $184 billion.
Bill Gates is worth $132 billion.
That's less than what Elon Musk made last year.
Wow, $185 billion.
No wonder why he bought Twitter and changes to X.
He doesn't care.
Now they say he took money out of Tesla to do that.
If you got $185 billion, what's $44 million?
I mean, it's nothing.
For the last three months, a woman who works at the drive-thru
at Wendy's near Seattle has been saying,
I love you to every customer just to lift their spirits.
She gives track of how many say it back.
So far,
2700 people have said, I love you back to her.
Would I say that?
I don't know.
I would think she's coming onto me.
Somebody said, I love you.
Yeah, I'm married.
I can't say it back.
But maybe it's okay.
All right.
Let's see what else we got for you.
According to a study, your salary could depend on your boss's children.
If your company CEO is a guy and has a baby boy,
you can expect your salary to shrink by about $200 a year at average.
If he has a girl,
you get about a 1% pay increase,
which means about $500 extra.
Why is that?
True or false, cold weather causes colds.
Now, for the last time, no.
Cold season only happens when it's cold out
because we all spend a lot of time inside in close quarters with other people
breathing recycled air and sneezing on each other.
That's why you get a cold.
It's viruses and germs and things like that that cause colds,
not cold weather.
My mother,
just all the time,
put your, put your scarf on and you're going to catch a cold out there.
And you know,
you don't dare say to your mother, no, mom, I'm not.
You don't want to say that.
The five most stressful jobs out there.
Firefighter,
members of the military,
a general in the military,
airline pilots and police officers.
By the way, broadcasters came in seventh on the list.
Finally, some respect for radio personalities.
Why is our, oh, well, it's just stressful.
I don't know why it's stressful.
I find this non-stressful.
I come into the boarding,
sit down, talk and go home.
I mean, when you think of that.
And when I,
when I was just a disc jockey,
I came in and played some records,
went home and that was that.
Nothing stressful about that.
68% of people say they wouldn't want to go viral,
I guess, on the internet.
8% say they definitely want to.
I don't want to do anything on the internet if I don't have to.
While filming an underwater scene for Avatar 2,
Kate Winslet held her breath for over seven minutes.
That beat Tom Cruise's record of six minutes.
Can we talk about this the other day?
I think so.
The actual breath holding record is over 24 minutes.
Can you imagine holding your breath for 24 minutes?
I can't even do it for 24 seconds.
Here are four body language mistakes to avoid at work.
Crossing your arms makes you look standoffish.
Tapping your feet makes you look nervous or bored.
Looking upward when you answer a question,
makes you look unprepared.
And when you're sitting down with someone,
don't point your toes away from them.
It's a sign you want to end the conversation.
I didn't know that one.
Yeah, crossing your arms is like, oh, yeah.
That's what that says.
You're in the excuses people gave when they didn't like your cooking.
Maybe you had somebody over over the holidays,
Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner, whatever.
Here's what they said.
I'm saving room for dessert.
I had a big breakfast.
I want to diet.
Back in the seventies, I guess it was over this friend of mine
just got married.
She married this guy and they got divorced.
I knew it wasn't in the last.
You can just tell.
Bless you was cheating on him.
But everybody who came through the front door.
But anyway, she made dinner one night.
It was so bad.
The chocolate pudding was burnt.
And she served it for dessert.
And it was burnt.
It was like eating smoked pudding.
It was so bad.
And I love chocolate pudding.
And she knows that.
And that's why she made it.
It was so bad I couldn't eat it.
I tried to nibble at this and I'm so full again.
Oh, come on.
It's chocolate pudding.
So I eat it.
Oh, it was terrible.
It was just the whole dinner was awful.
She's she meant well, she's just not a good cook.
And oh, man.
And I gave the excuse and it didn't work.
And everybody else at the table said,
oh, I don't like chocolate pudding.
But I couldn't use that because I already knew I liked it.
Oh, man, that was just awful.
Carrots are actually bad for rabbits.
Did you know that?
They cause health problems.
But because bugs bunny pretty much everything to rabbits love carrots.
The designer who created the NBA logo also made the 1040 easy tanks form.
All right.
It's something I bet you didn't know or care about.
It is interesting.
I hear some more fun facts for you.
It's illegal to own one guinea pig in Switzerland.
Guinea pig get lonely if they're alone.
So the law requires you have to have at least two guinea pigs.
According to the survey of Americans between the ages of 11 and 24 54% say they never have seen a cow in real life.
43% have never gone camping or even hiking at 9% have never cooked a meal from scratch.
Well, I've seen a cow.
I think if you touch the cat once, if I don't farm for something, I figure what it was.
I come from big city.
So I, I don't see a lot of farm animals where I grew up.
But anyway, camping in the fifth grade, our teacher took the boys camping.
Girls couldn't come, which I don't think you can get away with today.
But we did back in the 1960s.
So he took it.
He took all the boys camping up to Bear Mountain in upstate New York.
Bear Mountain is where the US military academy is.
What's that?
You know, I can't think all of a sudden here.
It's the big US military academy up there.
What the heck?
I forgot what the name is.
West Point.
That's where West Point is located above in Bear Mountain in the state of New York.
So we went camping.
I didn't have a backpack.
So I borrowed one.
And it didn't fit well.
I didn't know how to tie it.
And my mother packed it for me.
Keep in mind, I was 11 years old.
So she packed it for me.
And we're hiking.
And I'm getting thirsty because it's at least 10 miles to get to the site.
And I open up my canteen to get a drink of water by mother put grape soda in there.
Warm grape soda.
That's what I had.
I said, oh, mom, what do you do?
I get to the camping side.
I open up my backpack.
And there my mother packed dress shoes, dress pants and a dress shirt.
Mom, where do you think I was going?
I'm in the woods here.
So that's what I had the next day.
I had to wear my dress slacks, dress pants.
I said, mom, what did you do to me?
So the best part was there were different fathers taking care of each section of kids.
So each father had like four or five boys with him.
And it rained the night we camped out.
We just, you know, sleeping back and it rained and we got a little wet and so what.
So we the next morning everybody's trying to make a fire so they can cook their breakfast.
Our father in charge of us took us into the town of West Point and went to a diner
and had hamburgers, french fries and coke.
That's what we had for breakfast.
Everybody else was trying to start a fire with wet wood.
And so he was pretty smart.
I like that.
It won a huge error when I went camping.
And I'll never forget this.
We had a dig to find water.
The Mr. Person who was our teacher said, okay, keep digging and eventually you'll hit mud.
Let the mud settle and you could drink the water.
So each found a spot I dug.
It might taste it very minimally.
And he said, well, there's a mineral, you know, smell to the water and said, nah, this is beyond that.
He said, would you dig?
I dig a dig right and back of the lean to where the bathrooms were, where the toilets were.
You know, that's what water I was drinking.
It's not pure water.
And he said, why did you dig there?
I said, everybody else was digging everywhere else. I just picked the spot.
I mean, that was 11 years old. What did I know?
I'm not a camper.
One of my Daniel Boone.
So anyway, that was my camping experience.
That was the only time everyone camping in my life.
And I remember it.
It's good to remember that kind of stuff, huh?
All right.
Oh, what else I have for you here?
How long have you been working at your company?
Oh, yeah, that's a good question.
How long have you been working at your company?
Think it's a long time, 20 years, 30 years.
The world record for the longest career at the same company is over 84 years.
The guy in Brazil started working in a textile company was 15 years old.
And now he's still there.
And he's 100 years old.
Isn't that something, huh?
Wow, spend his entire career there.
And I thought working, you know, 24 years at the same station, which was this one,
was a long time.
Now, that's pretty good.
648 WRJN coming up at 706.
Mark Eichner is going to be here.
He is the conductor of the Racine Concert Band.
They've got a concert coming up.
No, it's not at the zoo.
It's at the Horde of high school talking about that straight ahead.
Okay, so that's all happening right here at WRJN plus.
In the next break, I've got some tickets to give away to Gabriel Iglesias.
Funny man, he's going to appear on stage at the State Fair.
And let me have great concert too.
It's a Thursday night, August 1st.
You can win tickets coming up at just a few moments here at WRJN.
Hold down radio over French to Civic Media Station.
You
You
That's the original version of that song by the Supreme.
It's also had two other versions.
Vanilla Fudge in 1966 had a real heavy rock version of that song.
And then Kim Wilde had the disco version in the 80s.
All three versions are good too.
6.52 at WRJN Radio, hometown radio,
refreshed to Civic Media Station.
Now, I've got some predictions here that were made 100 years ago.
These are by experts 100 years ago in actually 101 years ago.
In 1923, they made these.
They predicted now we'd have four hour work days never happened.
They'd be no more ugly people.
That never happened.
Women will paint their teeth black to be fashionable.
Why would they think that gasoline will be replaced by radio waves?
Well, not radio waves by electricity.
They almost got that, right?
Cancer will be eradicated.
Well, it's not eradicated, but they know how to cure it now.
Homes won't have kitchens anymore.
That one basically said we have ways to make food using, quote, chemical formulas
that didn't be needed to be cooked.
So that never happened.
We don't have Uber Eats and we do have DoorDash though.
You don't need a kitchen pour.
That was 100 years ago, 101 years ago, they made that.
What were they thinking?
Odd Betrude.
How long have you been working?
Oh, we did that one already.
Odd Betrude Guinness announced that a bird broke a world record
by flying 8,435 miles nonstop from Alaska, Australia.
The type of bird called the bar tail got wet.
Never heard of it.
He had a track around him flew 11 straight days without stopping to eat or rest.
What is that other bird?
The Albatross.
He can fly for days and see and not hit land.
Well, that's kind of interesting.
Hey, somebody crept into my studio without me knowing.
Where is he?
Is he here?
Hey, Mark, you're here?
Where is he?
He's here somewhere.
We'll get all the mark in a moment here.
Where is he?
Hey, Mark, you're here?
I see a briefcase.
I don't see any mark.
Man, Louisiana, through Iraq, through a main entrance of a correctional center.
So he can go back to jail.
He just been released five hours earlier.
He told police he wanted a place to sleep and have a meal.
And jail was the best spot for it.
So that's what he did.
All right.
We're going to talk to Mark Eichner in just a few moments here.
He's the conductor of the Racine Concert Band.
That's all coming up in just a moment.
Oh, yeah, I tell you something.
I think you'll understand.
And I say that something.
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
Oh, please, say to me.
Let me be your man.
And please, say to me.
You'll let me hold your hand.
I'll let me hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
And when I touch you, I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love.
I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.
Yeah, you got that something.
I think you'll understand.
And when I say that something.
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
And when I touch you, I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love.
Now, that's interesting is the bass guitar.
Paul McCartney's playing on that song is the same bass guitar
that was stolen and just returned to him the other day after 50 plus years.
That's that bass here.
